IDAHO FALLS – Several people made the choice to not be silent as they joined together for a rally in a Idaho Falls Saturday
Around fifteen people marched along the Snake River
past the crowded Idaho Falls Farmers Market and then crossed Broadway Street
They stopped along the bridge and held signs raising attention to a group of people who often go overlooked when they go missing – indigenous people
Many of the people at the rally had red handprints on their faces
“They don’t want to be silent anymore,” said Michelle Perez
that’s showing that… indigenous people have (gone) missing and (been) murdered
The rate at which indigenous people experience violence far exceeds the national average, according to “Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Crisis,” from the Bureau of Indian Affairs
there were 5,712 reports of missing American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls
according to the National Crime Information Center
The BIA states that indigenous women are often misclassified in a different racial category on missing-person forms
After hearing about the murder of Emily Pike
a San Carlos Apache teenager whose remains were found nearly a month after she disappeared in late January
Perez decided she needed to organize an event that would make more people aware of the decades-long crisis

which is a nationally recognized day of awareness for missing and murdered indigenous people
“When everybody’s out celebrating Cinco de Mayo… I want everybody to think of that one person that’s out there that’s missing
and (those responsible) don’t get arrested because they don’t have justice,” Perez said
a resident of Idaho Falls since 2018 who is descended from the native Alaskan Tlingit tribe
took part in the rally in honor of her mother’s memory
and her mom was found dead after around six months
Conley said that indigenous women experience fear in their daily lives because of how often they’re overlooked by the rest of society
“Indigenous women get overlooked all the time
It makes it really hard to just live,” Conley said
said that people can start to understand the fear indigenous people feel if they think of them like family
“Treat indigenous people like they were your sisters and you were a protective older brother
and that will give you the same feeling of fear that everyone fears for these people,” Armenta said
feels that people who aren’t affected by the crisis don’t pay much attention to it
but she hopes that more people who saw the rally will decide to learn more about it
“It’s always a good thing to be aware of the problems that are going on,” Juleymi said
“It is always a good thing to acknowledge that there is a problem
and you understand that it could be better.”

according to gym owner and chief instructor Joshua Schultz
is an important part facet of growth for any youngster
“Competition helps the students see themselves
to see what they are capable and what they can overcome,” he said
Because the Battle at the Falls is “classified as a regional tournament,” Schultz explained
the majority of its competitors were from Idaho and surrounding states
But there were also competitors who came from as far as California and Texas for the event
As part of the Pacific Northwest region — which includes Idaho
Wyoming and Utah — Ferocity competes every Taekwondo season for the right to host one of three tournaments in the region
It has earned that right each of the past 12 seasons
“That’s something that we’ve worked hard every year to earn
Along with some individual accomplishments
including first and second place — for their “A Team” and “B Team,” respectively — in Team Sparring and Team Combat Sparring
have always been where his students find their greatest success
though he plans on focusing a bit more on presentation events
Schultz is a firm believe in the benefits of competition
Through competitions like the Battle at the Falls
his students learn to overcome adversity — they develop self-confidence
self-worth and a greater self-esteem — while creating friendships with fellow competitors from well outside of their bubble
“Competition can bring out the worst in people
explaining that growth is limited when kept in a limited environment
… “When you get into a competitive environment
and that’s driving that edge — making you push boundaries.”
The Battle of the Falls does not mark the end of the Taekwondo season
which qualified for the Pacific Northwest District Championships
will not compete for a spot in the world championships — which will be held in July

Ervin always said it was a dream come true to find a girl hanging out in her car
This fateful meeting was the beginning of the power duo of Erma and Alma began
Al had a job at JJ North’s and Ervin spent so much time there to be close to her
Ervin always said it took me a full two minutes to fall in love with her
They dated for three years and finally he sealed the deal on August 8
exactly three years to the date of their first date
It was an ongoing joke that he married up and hoped she would never find out
Both were happy to learn the next chapter began a short six years later when they learned their family would be expanding
both were surprised when Maximus Dean decided to enter this world early–weighing barely over 3 pounds with flaming red hair
Ervin instantly fell in love with being a dad and took his role very seriously
eventually becoming a stay-at-home dad while he attended school
Ervin would go out to play with his friends to ride motorcycles at night
He cherished those nighttime hours he and Max spent time together
Those nights built an unbreakable bond between the two of them
Ervin’s contagious love of guns and old cars was adopted by Max
Countless hours were spent looking at old cars and attending gun shows
Max’s favorite memory is working on putting together an engine for his Senior project
He said he loved doing something they both enjoyed and spending time together
Samuel Gene better known as “Ging-Ging” joined the chaos right on time on May 7
Sam is his father’s child and learned early on that making someone laugh could get you out of a lot of trouble
It didn't take him long to figure out getting dad to laugh prevented him from consequences
His love of LEGOS was something he shared with his dad
The house is covered to this day with intricate Lego creations
the longer the instruction book the better
Ging-Ging’s favorite memory with his dad was a trip they took to West Yellowstone
The whole family was standing in the back of the truck watching the crowd head towards the buffalo in the distance
when they realized a giant buffalo was laying just beside the truck on the side of the road
He says they were “team buffalo” against the tourists
Their childhood was full of cousins and adventures
Board games were a favorite pass time of all the family
They loved Halloween and would go buy full-sized candy bars and drive around on trail bikes handing them out all over the neighborhood
One of Ervin’s non-negotiables for any work schedule was taking his boys to school and picking them up every single day–-and doughnut Fridays before school
he took a welding class and found a new passion and a new circle of friends
That was one thing Ervin was never short on was friends
There wasn’t a person he couldn’t talk to–-going in public with him always required extra time for all the stops and chatting that would happen
he loved you like you had been there forever
He had the ability to make everyone around him feel valued and important
Making friends with Erv was making a friend for life
Ervin’s love for collecting extended beyond cars
his “Italian girlfriend.” With a need for speed
Ervin loved attending Spud Kings games with Alma and the boys
he equally enjoyed socializing with friends and family in the stands
Ervin found his passion project in healthcare
He found a second family when he went to work at Mountain View Hospital
Ervin served the community and all the patients who crossed his path with love and kindness
Ervin made some of his closest friends within the walls of the hospital
Ervin made an everlasting impact on the lives of so many– both patients and staff alike
He was greeted in heaven by numerous loved ones including grandparents
Earlene & Ray Campbell and Ruth & Earl Church; in-laws
A huge hug was waiting for him from his sister-in-law
and a slap on the back from brother-in-law
Ervin’s life was a testament to love
and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him
to William “Bill” Y Gunnell and Florance Marilynn Jensen Gunnell
He grew up and attended schools in Lake Havasu City

he and his wife were making plans to open an inpatient substance abuse treatment center
he married the love of his life Keshia Ann Miles in Firth
Bill and Keshia made their home in Idaho Falls
where Bill worked as a Behavioral Health Tech for Stewards of Recovery

Opera meets comedy in the Idaho Falls Opera Theatre’s production of “The Pirates of Penzance.”
It tells the story of a young man named Frederic who celebrates his completion of an apprenticeship with pirates on his 21st birthday
He falls in love before realizing his birth date of February 29 means he is indebted to the pirates another 63 years
The opera is directed by BYU-Idaho alumna Allison Andersen
“I think our area is really fortunate as we have a lot of talented people in the area that cross over between opera as in classical style singing and in the musical theater,” Andersen said
“People can expect to also hear really great singing
but then also see some really fun acting incorporated as well.”
The cast is composed of several BYU-Idaho students and alumni
the opera will also include many detailed design elements to help enhance the comedic story
“We actually built a ship that's on wheels that our pirate king tells his story on too,” Andersen said
“The pirates are wheeling him around and they're going backwards and forwards
The opera opens Friday at the Idaho Falls Frontier Center for the Performing Arts with two additional shows on Saturday and Monday
The performance also includes a director’s chat at 6:30 before the show starts
“Come and then just join a night with your friends and family
see some really good acting and just being able to be entertained,” Andersen said

History comes to life onstage as the stories of the first women soldiers of World War I are told one telephone call at a time
Presented by Idaho Falls High School ROAR Theatre Company
and performed for the first time in eastern Idaho
“Hello Girls” is a musical that features unique
dance and design elements from the first female soldiers who served in France as bilingual telephone operators
Students from the school’s musical theatre class comprise the cast and it’s directed by Megan Anderson
“I think one of the most amazing things about the story is its focus on the courage of everyday people and what they are willing to go through and overcome in terms of challenge,” Anderson said
“All of these women and these characters are real people who actually lived
And it's amazing to see what these women sacrificed for their country.”
The students began rehearsing just before Christmas break and have worked countless hours inside of class and out
“The music in this show is particularly difficult because there's a lot of three-to-five-part harmony that makes it really difficult to sing
learning the music and the dances and then the blocking,” Anderson said
“The technical students have been doing an amazing job of building the set and creating costumes
designing the lights and the sound for the show.”
and shows run through Saturday at Taylorview Middle School in the auditorium
and the story is absolutely wonderful and the students are doing an incredible job with their storytelling talents
it's all coming together to make a really cool show,” Anderson said
“There's something for everyone and it is absolutely a show you do not want to miss.”

IDAHO FALLS — Dylan Wormsbaker’s four children will remember him as a hero
Dylan decided to buy his first bike at 18 years old
you’ve got to be careful on a bike,” says his father

“Ride like you’re invisible and always protect your head.”
Dylan built a thriving plumbing business and continued to ride motorcycles as his pastime

On March 17, 2023, a woman driving a van failed to yield to 25-year-old Dylan on his motorcycle, and hit him, causing a traumatic brain injury, according to KMVT.
Curtis received a call from one of Dylan’s employees at the plumbing company
saying there had been an accident and Dylan was being taken to EIRMC
“We got a call when we were about halfway (to the hospital)
and he’s asking me for permission to open my son’s skull to release pressure.”

doctors told Dylan’s parents that he was not going to recover brain function
and I just asked him straightforwardly,” says Curtis
Dylan’s parents decided to take him off of life support and honor his wishes to donate his organs
Little did they know just how many lives Dylan would change

“I had no idea the extent of the impact that a donation like that can make to so many people,’ says Niemann
the Wormsbakers say they began to hear from some of the people who had received their son’s organs
“One of the gentlemen…he drew a picture on paper and set it to Donor Connect
and Donor Connect sent it to us,” says Curtis
“That was cool to hear from this gentleman
having his story written out for us so we can get a glimpse into his life and what it did for him and his life
