Will Help Transform Brooklyn Marine Terminal Into Modern 21st Century Maritime Port
Inwood Greenway Will Add 1.35 Miles of Grade-Separated Bikeway and Improvements South of 10th Avenue
Closing Major Gap in Manhattan Waterfront Greenway Network
Administration’s Federal Infrastructure Funding Task Force Has Secured Total of $2.37 Billion in Funding
Including Nearly $1.3 Billion in Competitive Grants
21st-century maritime port and vibrant mixed-use community hub
as well as constructing a segment of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway along 10th Avenue in Inwood
The administration’s Federal Infrastructure Funding Task Force—chaired by Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi—has now secured a total of $2.37 billion in funding
including nearly $1.3 billion in competitive grants
more affordable New York City means investing in our city’s future—in 21st-century jobs
And thanks to the Biden-Harris administration
we’re able to take major steps forward towards doing just that,” said Mayor Adams
“We’re bringing thousands of jobs and billions in economic impact to our city by transforming the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern
21st-century maritime port and mixed-use community hub
and we’re bringing new public space and safety improvements to Inwood with our greenway along 10th Avenue
This helps get us that much closer to having New Yorkers be able to bike and walk all the way around Manhattan on greenways
these investments will help us build a cleaner
“The cornerstone of building a better New York City is smart infrastructure
that is made possible through an historic level of funding from the Biden-Harris administration and the tireless work of our congressional delegation,” said Deputy Mayor Joshi
“This is the largest single day of competitive infrastructure grants in New York City history
These two projects represent the breadth of urgent infrastructure investment in our city
safe mobility to revitalizing our waterfront for greener freight movement
Huge credit to our Federal Infrastructure Funding Task Force
has collaborated to earn us more than $1 billion in competitive grants
with more to come to build a stronger future for New York City.”
“I cannot think of a better way to start New York City’s Climate Week than with this announcement
a generational investment by the federal government that will catalyze the reinvention of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a resilient
future-proof transportation infrastructure and mixed-use development,” said Deputy Mayor for Housing
Department of Transportation and the entire New York delegation for their advocacy on behalf of all 8.3 million New Yorkers to secure this transformational funding for the future of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal.”
“This is a historic investment for a generational project that will truly transform Brooklyn’s waterfront and deliver positive economic and environmental impacts across the region,” said New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President and CEO Andrew Kimball
“An enormous amount of thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and the U.S
Department of Transportation for recognizing the importance of the future of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and the role it can play in bolstering our Blue Highways network throughout the five boroughs
I also want to thank our federal elected officials
Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
along with Congressman Dan Goldman who is leading our Brooklyn Marine Terminal Task Force
for their efforts in advocating for this project.”
“Every neighborhood deserves safe streets and public spaces to share with their families and neighbors
Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to equity
we’ll be able to fill a critical gap in Manhattan’s waterfront greenway while delivering important traffic safety upgrades in Inwood,” said New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez
and our sister agencies for their support of this life-saving work.”
“The greatest city in the world deserves high-quality public spaces
and these two projects will expand New Yorkers' public space access for generations to come,” said New York City Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Sue Donoghue
“We look forward to working with our partners at DOT on the greenway along 10th Avenue
creating a safer and more direct path from the Bronx to the greenway along the Harlem River
connecting with historic Manhattan parks like Highbridge Park and Inwood Hill Park as well as to a new waterfront park in development along Academy Street
our coastline will continue its inspiring transformation
helping New Yorkers connect with each other and with our city’s waterfront.”
that task force evaluates the competitive grant opportunities available
with a focus on new opportunities made possible through both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act
and works to break down silos and foster creativity across city agencies
The city has aligned its priorities for high-quality
and equitable infrastructure with aggressive and creative grant applications from a wide range of infrastructure agencies
These two announcements represent the single largest day of competitive grant awards in New York City history
The $164 million federal grant for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal comes after Mayor Adams, along with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, NYCEDC, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced an historic agreement that will enable the city to transform the 122-acre Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern
21st-century maritime port and mixed-use community
This federal grant builds on an initial $95 million investment from New York City and New York state that would stabilize and repair Piers 7
and 10; and fund planning for the site’s future
electrified container crane for operations at the terminal
as well as a future cold storage facility on-site
This new funding will help rehabilitate and extend the life of Pier 10—home of the Red Hook Container Terminal—demolish the structurally-deficient Piers 9A and 9B and replace them with a new marginal Pier 9 that is better able to handle modern ships; and improve traffic and circulation for pedestrians
the project is expected to generate $9 billion of economic value while potentially creating thousands of jobs
Last week, NYCEDC announced the full membership of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Task Force
and co-chaired by New York state Senator Andrew Gounardes and New York City Councilmember Alexa Aviles
It is comprised of a wide range of experts
and local elected officials; the local community board; local resident organizations; maritime and industrial stakeholders; unions; planning and environmental justice organizations; and representatives of the local business community
the task force aims to build a shared vision across stakeholders
The task force is charged with approving the illustrative vision plan
which will include reinvestment and development for a modernized maritime port and a vibrant mixed-use community
for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal in early 2025
NYCEDC kicked off a series of community engagement events in August, starting with a public information webinar on August 12th, and will hold the public survey is now available online
NYCEDC has selected renowned consulting firm Buro Happold to spearhead the master plan
The $96 million federal grant for a greenway along 10th Avenue in Inwood
Manhattan will help the city fill one of the last major gaps in the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway to create a continuous cycling route around the island
The project will also address traffic safety equity in Inwood
delivering a host of safety upgrades in an underserved area to make the neighborhood’s streets safer for all
and improved lighting under the elevated subway line
The construction of the greenway will come with a wide variety of proven safety upgrades along the 10th Avenue corridor
which ranks in the top 10 percent of Manhattan’s most dangerous streets
It will also include various pedestrian and cyclist improvements along Harlem River Drive
Improvements will focus on reducing the time it takes pedestrians to cross the street
and improving boarding for bus riders along the corridor
The city will also install a full pedestrian plaza on Post Avenue between 10th Avenue and West 207th Street
Department of Design and Construction will build the project
which will enter the preliminary design phase in spring 2025
“I am delighted that we have secured $163,800,000 in funding for the vital redevelopment of the Brooklyn waterfront,” said U.S
“This incredible investment in our Red Hook community will be transformative
While the Brooklyn Marine Terminal had been mired in decades of inertia
we have entered a new era with this long overdue federal funding
This infusion will allow our city to fully enhance the economic growth and health of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal
while taking into account the public health and climate goals of surrounding communities
The future is here – and it’s looking bright for Brooklyn.”
“I’m proud to deliver the largest federal grant funding for New York City’s bike infrastructure in the history of our city and look forward to the new
1.35-mile corridor along 10th Avenue in Inwood in my district,” said U.S
New York City Mayor Adams and DOT Commissioner Rodriguez for the local-federal collaboration to ensure this project has the necessary funding for completion.”
“By building a better Brooklyn Marine Terminal
we're building a better future for Brooklyn and the whole region,” said New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes
“This federal funding will help make up for years of disinvestment of the piers and allow us to invest in a modernized terminal that can sustainably handle freight deliveries
expand economic opportunity and create new jobs
I’m thankful to Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the Biden administration for awarding this crucial grant and look forward to working with community partners to ensure we maximize its impact.”
“Securing $260 million in federal funding for transformative infrastructure projects is a triumph for Inwood and all New Yorkers,” said New York State Senator Robert Jackson
“The 10th Avenue Greenway in my district is not just an investment in green space—it’s an investment in our future
This initiative is a decisive leap toward a more resilient
and accessible city from Inwood to the Bronx and beyond.”
“The revitalization of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a state-of-the-art maritime port and vibrant mixed-use community hub will significantly enhance New York City’s position as a global leader in commerce
while also creating vital opportunities for residents and businesses alike,” said New York State Assemblymember Charles D
“I commend Mayor Adams and his administration for their leadership and vision in bringing this transformative project to fruition
This investment represents a bold step towards building a brighter
“The federal funding secured by Mayor Adams and his administration is a big step in the development of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway,” said New York State Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos
“The 1.35-mile greenway in Inwood will allow residents in the district to more easily
and more safely access the waterfront along the Harlem River
It will help continue efforts to build safe biking infrastructure and to reconnect communities in New York that were intentionally separated by the construction of highways in years past
it’s yet another display of President Biden and Vice President Harris’ steadfast commitment to investing in green infrastructure
I’m grateful for the continued collaboration toward this project and I look forward to the day when Inwood residents will be able to enjoy the 10th Avenue Greenway because of those efforts.”
“Today we launch unprecedented investments to bring world class infrastructure to the greatest city in the world,” said New York State Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar
“We have secured $2.37 billion in federal funding for modern
vibrant epicenters of activity to accelerate growth in our bustling metropolis
We will transform the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a state-of-the-art maritime and community hub
and we will revitalize Inwood with the new 10th Avenue Greenway pedestrian infrastructure and greenspace
I am proud of my work in Albany to implement much-needed infrastructure
and the South Shore Staten Island Coastal Storm Risk Management Project
we will build a New York City for the 21st century and beyond.”
“Offering well-paying jobs and facilitating the movement of goods
our ports are as essential to our city’s future as they are to our past,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso
“I am thrilled that Brooklyn Marine Terminal will see much-needed federal investments and continue to modernize to meet the needs of our borough and city
and US DOT for recognizing the importance of Brooklyn’s ports.”
“The DOT's Mega Grant will kick start critical work at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal
which will contribute to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and modernization of our port infrastructure,” said New York City Councilmember Alexa Aviles
“I look forward to these funds being used to improve traffic flow in our community and toward getting trucks off of our roads
all while building livable wage jobs for the people of our community.”
“We have been working with environmental groups for years bringing awareness to the limitations on our waterfronts and greenways
partly due to the disastrous effects of the Robert Moses era infrastructure on our most vulnerable communities,” said New York City Councilmember Carmen De La Rosa
“The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted how valuable greenspaces were for our physical and mental health
and how many communities were deprived of access to said spaces
and it’s an important investment back into the most cherished aspects of our neighborhood while physically connecting our community to our counterparts in the Bronx
I’m proud that the Biden-Harris administration has committed to funding our 10th Avenue greenway
and we look forward to enjoying this upgrade to safe
“We are thrilled that the 10th Avenue Greenway project is finally becoming a reality,” said Paul Steely White
“This transformative initiative will close a significant gap in the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway
The 10th Avenue Greenway project not only enhances connectivity between Manhattan and the Bronx but also prioritizes safety and accessibility within our communities
By creating a dedicated off-street bike path
we are paving the way for a more sustainable and equitable transportation network.”
“What a tremendous win for New York and the residents of Inwood,” said Ken Podziba
“This is a neighborhood in desperate need of public investment
and the significant infusion of federal funding to create the 10th Avenue Greenway will lead to a safer
and healthier future that prioritizes people over cars
Bike New York commends the Biden administration for awarding this grant to New York City
and we have the utmost confidence in Commissioner Rodriguez and DOT in implementing this project
which will remarkably transform Inwood and expand the city's greenway network.”
“We applaud the New York City Department of Transportation and partner agencies that are dedicated to building a fully connected citywide greenways network as vital open space and micro-mobility infrastructure
and an important part of New York City’s climate response,” said Terri Carta
Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC) and member
“JBRPC is grateful to Senator Schumer for his leadership on this historic investment in New York City's greenway network and closing the gap in northern Manhattan.”
“The newly announced $96 million in grant funding is absolutely vital to build out the 10th Avenue greenway,” said Dr
“As we heard at the NYC Greenways Summit last week
this critical funding will directly support better public health
This is a great step toward completing the greater Manhattan Waterfront Greenway

We need large infill developments of this size citywide
Every area within a half mile of an outer borough subway station should be zoned for this
We need major apartment building construction in basically all subway station-adjacent neighborhoods
the rooms are no larger than a closet in th developer’s own home — and that is the problem
Using taxpayer money to build housing they do not understand is unfair and unjust

The ProposalWhen we created a music video for Nishmas Hatorah’s building campaign last year
we collaborated with comedic songwriter and performer Binyomin Miller to produce something the bochurim
who get involved in the annual fundraising campaign
Binyomin wrote a song called “Incomplet” (yes
with whimsical lyrics describing incomplete items — half a slice of pizza
gilah and rinah without any ditzah — as a metaphor for the half-finished building the yeshivah was trying to complete
and both the yeshivah and their marketing team
knew they wanted to bring Binyomin back this year
The challenge would be building on the success of “Incomplet” without falling prey to stale-sequel syndrome
Binyomin’s brainstorm was to do a song called “Complete” — not in the glaringly obvious direction of lauding the completed building
rather a more figurative approach focusing on the complete experience the yeshivah gives their talmidim
as did ConsultWrite and Rabbi Pinchus Weinberger
it would also allow us to showcase how the yeshivah gives the talmidim tools for life
and he came to us mid-February with a draft
In order to differentiate it completely from last year’s video
he started the song with a two-paragraph backstory about… a color specialist who devoted years of his life developing a specific shade of paint
The color the specialist had finally created was
Our challenge was to create 60 seconds of content that would keep a viewer engaged
We couldn’t expect people to watch paint dry
hiring an actor to portray a mad-scientist character
playing with all sorts of beakers and tubes in his effort to create that elusive shade
Our Amazon cart was soon filled with an aspiring chemist’s supplies: litmus test strips
ingredients for elephant toothpaste (having blue foamy liquid spilling over the beaker sells the experimentation look)
and beakers and tubes of all shapes and sizes
We planned to set up the lab scene inside my friend’s spacious garage
you see that old shed in the corner of the property
He was right — the ramshackle shed would do a great job of setting the scene for our isolated old man locked up in his lab — so we relocated there
though we did use actual supplies for the experimenting scene
I didn’t want to ruin any of the property (or our clothing!) so we opted for a less permanent brown liquid: chocolate syrup with some water
Aside from the lab scene and the specialty shots filmed in the yeshivah itself
we needed to film Binyomin singing the whole song in a few locations
By playing the music from beginning to end during filming
we can synchronize the different takes in editing and pick the best shots from his performances
but we wanted a more cinematic look as well
and Binyomin wanted something glitzy to match the sixties-era music style he had in mind when composing the song
After some back and forth with Senior Production Manager Moshe Niehaus
Elimelech ordered a backdrop of small gold squares to set a glamorous stage
What we didn’t realize was that some assembly was required; it came as individual 12×12-inch squares
After about 30 minutes I took a break to daven Minchah
We had ordered enough for a complete background on the wider angle where Binyomin takes up only about a third of the screen — about 15 feet of gold — but time was ticking
I made the executive decision to build less than we had originally planned
deliberately showing the lights and stands in the wider view to give it more of a raw set vibe
Elimelech had done the bulk of the backdrop
because to achieve the shimmery look we had in mind
the backdrop had to be moving and reflecting the lights in different patterns
so I improvised by attaching a string to the curtain’s edge and pulling it back and forth
pull more!” Elimelech kept instructing during filming
“Shindler really pulled all the strings for that shoot.”
Binyomin wrote certain lyrics with scenes of the bochurim in mind
The vision was to incorporate the humor into the everyday activities
so we could showcase the yeshivah while keeping the video engaging
Binyomin asked us to create an overlay effect on a dozen or so key scenes to make the “complete” point in a fun way
Shayna Koppenheim designed a graphic that reads “NBA Standard Issue” over the spinning basketball (i.e.
even the balls at the yeshivah are the perfect size)
VFX Associate Jeremy Lewis was the lead editor on the video
Koppenheim to add the overlay to the scene of someone eating lunch
The plan was for it to show the calorie intake in the forkful of macaroni
Koppenheim noticed one noodle had fallen off the fork while it was being lifted from the bowl
In addition to the overlay showing how many calories were in the forkful
she added a second overlay tracking the negative calorie intake on the falling macaroni
she planned to remove it for the final; we all loved it
and because there are so many effects we want to get in
Post-Production Coordinator Usher Weldler was reviewing a draft of the video with Jeremy when he noticed the scene with a rebbi playing guitar while learning with the talmidim
“Why are we zooming in on the gemara?” Usher asked
“You hear how Binyomin’s singing about playing a riff [musical term for playing an instrumental piece] on his guitar?” Jeremy explained
“There’s also a second interpretation here
because the gemara is open to the Rif [Rav Yitzchak Alfasi].”
Will viewers even have time to process the joke?”
We tested it on a few people and got mixed results
because most of them got one of the meanings but not both
It was actually a great Rorschach test: Which people would get the musical “riff”erence and which would get the Talmudic one
but we also agreed that viewers were just going to have to watch the video more than once if they wanted to get all the jokes
One of the things Binyomin wanted to highlight as “complete” is the food served in the yeshivah
“Every Golden Crisp is lovingly toasted to perfection / And then undergoes our comprehensive fourteen-step inspection.”
We borrowed a jeweler’s loupe (or esrog-style
and had a rebbi actually study the kernel for imperfections
Binyomin also wanted to present typical yeshivah fare as gourmet
and I reached out to noted food and interior photographer Hudi Greenberger to professionally plate and style yeshivah lunches
transforming a tuna sandwich into the “house tuna medley on a toasted roll” in the song
The problem was that Hudi is so good at what he does it legitimately looked gourmet — which wouldn’t have the comedic effect we were aiming for
Elimelech suggested adding a plastic fork and knife
helped remind everyone not to take the scene too seriously
another of Binyomin’s jokes was to refer to the cook as the mashgiach gashmi
Moshe Niehaus came up with the perfect way to showcase that visually
“When I think of ‘status’ in the world of yeshivos
I immediately think of the mizrach vant [the eastern wall where all of the dignitaries are seated],” he said
and have him davening next to the black-hatted faculty.”
and we staged a Minchah just for this purpose
It probably took 30 minutes of prep for a shot that’s only a few seconds in the video
but it’s this kind of detail that makes it such a great video
There’s always the question of when to send the video to the client
and they might not be able to appreciate the final vision
sometimes initial feedback can help direct the final version
On this particular project we went all in on the first approach
Binyomin shared just the lyrics with Rabbi Pinchus Weinberger
but we didn’t send the video until we had added all of the effects and edits
only a few days before the scheduled release
There was a bit of nail-biting at our end as we waited for Rabbi Weinberger’s reaction
While he admitted that he could never have envisioned the final product (“shocked” was the word he used)
He did say he had to watch it several times to fully appreciate it
but that may be in part because of the speed of the jokes portrayed

NY — A woman was found dead in Inwood Hill Park on Sunday evening
New York City Police Department officials said
on Sunday regarding an unconscious woman at the corner of Seaman Avenue and West 207th Street in Inwood Hill Park
they found a woman — estimated to be in her 50s — unconscious and unresponsive
Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene
Police say the woman didn't have trauma to her body
This is a developing story and may be updated
at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with Pastor Sue Sinclair officiating
Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood
Visitation with the family present will be held Monday
from 5:30-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood
Memorials may be directed to Fellowship Village or Bethlehem Lutheran Church
Porter Funeral Home of Inwood has been entrusted with Lin’s funeral arrangements.
oldest daughter of Don and Louise (Traylor) Lanham
Nebraska and loved to recount the many adventures and mis-adventures she shared there with her two younger brothers and sister
She followed in her father’s footsteps attending Hastings College
where she learned white glove manners and earned a Bachelor of Music degree
She started her first teaching job in Griswold
where she met and fell in love with her fellow teacher
and she launched into the most treasured job of her life
where she would spend the rest of her life
She initially stayed home to care for her growing family and kept busy with hobbies
she taught piano lessons from her home on her treasured baby grand piano
she was often seen about town with her Polaroid camera
capturing pictures and writing stories for the West Lyon Herald
She also helped out at the local flower shop–creating countless corsages for Mother’s Day and other special occasions
she returned to her original passion of music education as a music and band teacher at Inwood Christian School
But one of her very favorite jobs was a preschool teacher for Playdays at Bethlehem Lutheran Church
a job she was heartbroken to leave when she finally became unable to join her students on the carpet for story and play time
Lin maintained a deep and abiding faith in Christ
She lived a life of true service and genuine love for her neighbors
It isn’t possible to list all the roles she filled at Bethlehem Lutheran
and even janitor (as well as preschool teacher
she cherished the Circle meetings that were held there so she and others could continue to attend
she was blessed with many caretakers who would read the Bible to her
her voice could be heard clearly singing hymns in both melody and harmony
It really isn’t possible to capture in words the full magic and meaning of Lin’s life
how she impacted all of those who were lucky enough to know her and be loved by her
She could talk for hours on the phone with her friends and family
much to Al’s dismay (long distance bills!)
making sure never to end a sentence in a preposition
She absolutely loved doing crafts of all sorts
She loved to shop–mostly for craft supplies or gifts for her family and friends
She would say that everything she bought was a hope or dream for someone she loved
It was a quiet strength through which she persisted to raise her children to be independent
It was a strength that endured through so many heartbreaks
such as the loss of her brother and her son and the devastating illness that would rob her of her ability to play the piano and with her grandchildren
A strength that blessed those she loved with many years beyond our expectations
what we carry with us from Lin is her love
which was (and is) endless and given freely to all
Her heart could reach to the moon and back
and if everyone in the world could have just a sliver of her soul
Her children know how absolutely blessed we are to have called her mom
and felt the warmth and safety of her unconditional love
She did everything in her power to never leave us
and even though she is no longer physically here
she will live forever through her legacy of love and grace
The most humble legend of a human that we have known
Alayna and Christian Lemcke; Abby and Kate Politzer; Clara
David and Drew Mews; Camarion Mews; Lydia and Nora Harris; and Eloise
She is also survived by her beloved siblings and siblings-in-law
Lin loved all of her nieces and nephews to the moon and back: Lisa (Eric)
and a host of caretakers who walked with her through her long and difficult illness and whose love and kindness will never be forgotten
Lin was preceded in death by her parents
We imagine that she is laughing and singing with them now

Also this is Washington Heights not Inwood

The A train has been in repair for THREE YEARS
It is an extremely urban neighborhood with good public transit access

2025 at 1:23 pm CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Farrell Theis
was an employee of a third-party vending service at the Joliet Park District's Inwood Recreation Center facility to replenish the vending machines
(March mugshot via Joliet police )JOLIET — Will County Judge Derek Ewanic has ruled against his former employer
after prosecutors argued that Farrell Theis
should be kept in the Will County Jail while awaiting trial
The 61-year-old Theis was arrested by Joliet police in March on a criminal charge of photography by a sex offender
related to an incident at the Joliet Park District's Inwood swimming pool earlier this year
Judge Ewanic ruled in favor of Theis and his Naperville private counsel
Last week's petition to deny pretrial release
contained information related to the Joliet police investigation of Theis
a part-time lifeguard at the Inwood Athletic Center called Joliet police on behalf of the Joliet Park District
she saw the man who fills the vending machines next to the pool
and he appeared to be taking pictures of the Joliet West High School boys swim team
"The vending man was standing by the glass
with his phone near the glass and when she approached him
it looked like he put his phone down," prosecutors informed Judge Ewanic
"A swim coach was also sufficiently troubled that he approached the vending man
and the vending man responded that he used to swim in a pool."
the Inwood staff provided Joliet police with pictures and "through the vending company
police also obtained the name of the vending man
Joliet Police Detective (Cris) Gombosi was assigned to the matter
He obtained surveillance video from the Athletic Center
This video is consistent with the reported events."
Prosecutors added that Detective Gombosi discovered Theis is a registered sex offender
convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault in 1989 in DuPage County
the defendant pled guilty to having sex with an 11-year-old boy while he was age 26," the petition to deny pretrial release showed
Theis was sentenced out of DuPage County to 12 years of prison at the Illinois Department of Corrections "however
he was only required to register for 10 years," prosecutors outlined in court records
Detective Gombosi obtained a search warrant for Theis' phone
and it was seized and searched and "that phone revealed a picture of a swim team member which appears to have been taken from a close zoom shot in the pool area at the Athletic Center," prosecutors stated
Joliet police ultimately determined the identity of the Joliet West swimmer and "that swimmer agreed his parents had not given this defendant permission to take said photo," court documents reflect
After hearing evidence from the prosecution
rejecting the petition asking to put the vending machine worker in the Will County Jail under the SAFE-T-Act
the judge ruled that although Theis was charged with a detention-eligible offense
Ewanic denied the petition for the following reasons
"defendant has no law enforcement contact since 1989 and no other contact since this incident in January 2025."
Ewanic ordered the Romeoville man "not to possess any photography equipment when around minors" and to have no contact with "minor individuals."
Theis' next hearing is set for April 22 in Courtroom 405 of Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak

Dry conditions lead to two separate fires in a Manhattan park Wednesday within 15 minutes of each other
The fires tore through about 3.5 acres of land in Inwood Hill Park
We actually had multiple trees that collapsed,” FDNY Chief of Operations Kevin Woods said
Officials said the fire climbed the forest hills
making it tough terrain for firefighters to battle
there aren’t fire hydrants in the middle of a forest
So we had to draft from the Harlem River,” Woods said
the fire was brought under control during the overnight hours
but FDNY personnel returned to the park in the vicinity of the Henry Hudson Bridge shortly before 4 a.m
The cause of the fires remains under investigation
Fire crews are expected to be on scene into the morning hours
According to the city, there have been about 230 brush fires in a two-week period as the five boroughs continues to see historically dry conditions
we anticipate we will see more of these before rain comes,” FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker said
The FDNY is urging all New Yorkers to remain diligent and to take precautions to prevent further fires from occurring
A fire in the Inwood section of Manhattan injured 13 people and one firefighter Tuesday morning
Four people were transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
and six more were taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center
The remainder of those injured were treated on the scene by first responders
The conditions and identities of those injured by the fire were not immediately known
Fire officials said the fire started on the first floor of the building
a resident in the building who uses a wheelchair
told NY1 Tuesday morning that he heard a popping sound behind his nightstand
so I had to wrap my hand in something," Rzepnicki said
I turn to the closet in the back and there were flames in there."
More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire
which was deemed under control just before 10 a.m
Fire marshals said the cause of the fire is under investigation

NY – Inwood Hill Park was on fire – again – on Monday night
A brush fire in the park was reported at about 9:50 p.m.
Approximately 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the blaze
which wasn’t under control until about 11:15 p.m
Officials couldn't confirm the size of the fire
Four acres burned in a major fire in Inwood Hill Park last week
A record number of brush fires have burned in the city in recent weeks, and Mayor Eric Adams declared a “drought warning” on Monday. Over the weekend, the FDNY announced the formation of a new task force focused on brush fires
Significant rain is forecast on Wednesday and Thursday
The city has secured a $96 million federal grant to build a section of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway in Inwood
The 1.35-mile segment will extend along 10th Avenue from West 201st Street to West 218th Street
connecting to Inwood Hill Park at West 218th Street and the Bronx via the Broadway and University Heights bridges
The section is one of the “last major gaps” in the greenway
which will provide a continuous cycling and walking route around Manhattan
The project will bring safety upgrades to the stretch
and improved lighting under the elevated subway line,” the release said
The Harlem River Drive below 10th Avenue will get cyclist and pedestrian-friendly upgrades
and a full pedestrian plaza will be installed on Post Avenue between 10th Avenue and West 207th Street
City Hall said the project’s preliminary design phase is expected in spring 2025
The city on Monday also said it has secured a $164 million federal grant that it will put toward its efforts to modernize the Brooklyn Marine Terminal
and we’re bringing new public space and safety improvements to Inwood with our greenway along 10th Avenue,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement
“This helps get us that much closer to having New Yorkers be able to bike and walk all the way around Manhattan on greenways
greener city for all New Yorkers,” he added

Additional funding for the project came from the Robin Hood Foundation
the city’s largest poverty-fighting philanthropic organization
The nearest subway from The Eliza is the A train at the Dyckman Street station to the west
Would you rather have the kind of soul crushing dreck offered up by perennial offenders like Badaly
Caliendo and “Engineering” companies
but it’s exudes quality and should age well
If there is ANYTHING to complain about here it would be how it somewhat awkwardly meets the newish neighbor next door
Too bad the massing couldn’t prevent the goofy “decorated” lot line wall
I really like the way the paint job fairly mimics the sight when one residential building is torn down and you see all the pastel painted bedroom walls on the side of the next building
and now a flagship for city-led redevelopment of municipal properties
The only issue is the very dirty politics that went into the spot rezoning
with a lot of dishonesty and propaganda from EDC
Never seen such a poorly run public process that tried to force a certain outcome to satisfy a councilman’s desire for legacy (which earned him a promotion to DOT commissioner
the rezoning went through and the construction pain is over
Inwood loves its new library and the housing is great
Building will be more contextual in future years as more of the block fills in (and if the city ever gets back to rezoning Broadway
as was attempted but then axed in a backroom deal during the rezoning)
A company that produces parts and construction materials for building
they will be amazed at how good the assembly looks: Thanks to Michael Young
The library is lovely and turned out much better than expected
My only question is why there are no trees planted on the block – both here and fronting the next door neighbor
