In a world where algorithmic matchmaking and digital romance often dominate the search for love Greg Chillak’s story defies the conventional playbook Far from swiping through endless profiles or meticulously crafting online personas on dating sites this Long Island native discovered his soulmate through a serendipitous encounter and a trip to Uganda of Islip Terrace and his fiancé Joan Kruchov are among a handful of couples starring this spring on the 11th season of TLC’s 11 hit reality show “90 Day Fiance,” which airs Sundays at 8 p.m The program centers on Americans’ use of the K-1 “Fiancé” visa to help bring their international love interests Stateside for marriage the couples then have 90 days to decide to whether to marry or send their partner packing An East Islip High School alumnus who has held several jobs including baker and currently freelance plumber a director of the non-governmental organization Nakajo Hope for Girls Foundation was purely a function of not one but two chance encounters.  The first chance meeting happened on an airline flight to Arizona in 2018 when Chillak met Amos Wakesa which led to Chillak visiting Wakesa in Uganda in 2019 “I met her in a guesthouse in Uganda that my friend Amos was staying at,” Chillak told Greater Long Island “I saw her and just I instantly fell in love But Chillak, an easy-going, down-to-earth Long Islander, said it’s just a matter of cultural differences. “It’s more common for people in Uganda to take frequent showers than we do since they walk much more and it’s much hotter there,” he explained. “Also, water costs are less there than on Long Island.” The couple have discussed moving out of his mom’s home and getting their own, but that’s still a bit down the road. She was 37 years old and will forever be missed by her devoted mother Patricia Miller and her brother, best friend and partner in crime Garrett Miller. She will be lovingly remembered by her heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She leaves behind her feline friends Jamie and Cerscie. Caitlin was a rabid fan of Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters whose concerts she and her mother attended with unabashed adoration. She loved flowers and often traveled to flower shows across the metropolitan area. Caitlin was beautiful, kind and vivacious. She was our “Little Mermaid” and we ask that you keep her and her family in your prayers. members were part of a vehicle theft and credit card fraud ring NY — Thirteen gang members involved in vehicle theft and credit card fraud ring have been indicted Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Tuesday The 250-count indictment involved 13 alleged members of the Hempstead/Freeport-based gang 5L who used real estate apps such as Zillow and Realtor.com to target neighborhoods where they broke into and stole cars and credit cards The defendants broke into more than 52 vehicles and stole 15 of them around Long Island They used the stolen credit cards to make more than $40,000 in fraudulent purchases at Long Island stores including Target and Apple and would then sell the items purchased with the stolen cards for cash the investigation began in December 2023 after officials identified a pattern of car break-ins and credit card thefts between February 2023 and August 2024 across Suffolk County Tierney said they used the apps to target affluent neighborhoods in Suffolk County where residents were likely to leave their car FOB and wallets in their parked cars the gang members looked for clues that meant key FOBs were left in a vehicle such as the side view mirrors not being retracted which occurs when the FOB is removed from the vehicle Once a gang member stole a credit card from a vehicle the thieves used the card first thing in the morning before the owners had a chance to realize they were stolen and cancel the cards allegedly engaged in what they called "car checking" or "cc-ing," which involved travelling to Suffolk County late at night or in the early morning hours and breaking into vehicles to steal contents The defendants also allegedly targeted locations such as assisted living homes where they believed victims would be likely to leave their vehicles for a prolonged period of time often with their personal property within the vehicle While most of the incidents involved unlocked vehicles the defendants are also charged with breaking the windows of 14 vehicles to gain access to locked vehicles The defendants would allegedly use the stolen vehicles to travel to other locations throughout Suffolk County to "car check," often switching license plates on the vehicles to avoid detection by law enforcement and eventually abandoning the vehicles in locations around Nassau and Suffolk County when they were able to acquire a new stolen vehicle search warrants were executed at Mullen’s Hempstead residence and Fenner’s Freeport home Officials recovered several cell phones and a trove of stolen property including over 100 driver’s licenses social security cards and other stolen property from Mullen's house a number of credit and debit cards and two firearms from Fenner's residence including a firearm stolen from a vehicle in Suffolk County in September 2023 related grand larceny conspiracy that Mullen Rahmadon Cruz and others were allegedly engaging in while also participating in the car-checking scheme the investigation revealed that Mullen and others would gain online access to the bank accounts of unsuspecting account holders through an e-mail phishing scheme have debit cards mailed to
