VARIOUS - JUNE 25: **IMAGE RESTRICTED - NOT AVAILABLE FOR USE IN A NORTH AMERICAN MAGAZINE COVER UNTIL JULY 11
2009** Michael Jackson performs in concert circa 1995
it would still likely forever be remembered as one of the most successful albums of all time
the title has become a constant bestseller and a must-own on vinyl
It was a true blockbuster when it was first unveiled decades ago —the kind seen only once in a generation – and it remains one to this day
Fans have never stopped listening to Thriller in the years since it arrived
After disappearing from a handful of Billboard tallies only recently
Thriller surged and is now a bestseller once more – even though it's not technically selling as well as it did just last week
Jackson’s classic lives on five Billboard tallies at the moment
and the album returns to two charts this frame — ones dedicated solely to pure purchases for full-lengths — as it once again ranks among the bestselling releases in America
Thriller is a top 20 success on both rankings
Jackson’s masterpiece nearly reenters the top 10 on the Vinyl Albums chart
These placements are especially impressive considering the fact that Thriller is actually down in terms of pure sales
it moved a little more than 3,200 — a 12% drop week-over-week
it still manages to blast back onto the two lists after Record Store Day releases vacated dozens of spots
opening up real estate for time-tested favorites to return
Despite being one of the bestselling releases of all time
Thriller has never managed to reach the highest position on the Top Album Sales chart
Billboard’s list of the bestselling projects in the country
In the 447 frames it's been present on the list
2 — though it has conquered the Vinyl Albums roster
the Billboard 200 – the main albums tally – was not built using a consumption methodology
Jackson’s behemoth was the bestselling release in the country
The same hit-packed set also appears on another trio of consumption-based rankings this week
Thriller still manages to find space on the Top R&B Albums (No

$260 million dollar deal to remain with his team in April of 2023
ending an ugly period in which Jackson felt undervalued not just by his team
He was there for anyone who wanted him for a moment there
with the Ravens waiting until well after they could have signed him to more money
seemed willing to touch the former MVP amidst lingering injury concerns
Jackson has discovered a second part of his prime
rattling off two consecutive healthy seasons after a few years of inconsistency and tacking on two First Team All-Pro appearances along with being named Most Valuable Player within a year of resigning
The team's best course of action would be to put pen to paper on another deal before his upcoming $43.5 million paycheck takes its scheduled jump between seasons, which would make Jackson the newly-highest-paid player in NFL history. Dak Prescott currently holds that record with his four-year
with some of Jackson's peers like Josh Allen
Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love signing similarly hefty deals in recent years
Allen, Jackson's old draft-classmate, just agreed to terms on a six-year deal two months ago, netting the reigning MVP $330 million over the next six years to look forward to
It's likely in the best interest of the forward-thinking Ravens and the deserving Jackson to avoid the song and dance of the early 2020s
rewarding their centerpiece proportionately

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reports that on Saturday they had roadblocks along with Georgia State Patrol (GSP) at multiple points in the county that culminated in 13 arrests before the storms arrived
The safety checkpoints were along State Route 330 at Tallassee Road in the southern part of the county near U.S
SR 98 close to the Madison County line near Commerce
and SR 334 at Sanford Road according to Sheriff Kevin McCook
McCook did add he was not sure if deputies made it to the last stop on SR 334 due to storms coming in
The sheriff’s office reported multiple DUI
and outstanding warrant offenses being charged along with 21 warnings issued
According to Jackson County inmate records
there were five DUI arrests during the stops along with three drug-related arrests
There were also three people arrested with a hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“We seek to protect the innocent motoring public,” JCSO said in a Facebook post
“Thank you to our deputies and citizens who strive to do good things every day to make this county safer.”

would have been the definitive Prince documentary: a nine-hour behemoth drawing upon dozens of interviews with the late icon’s associates and rare access to his personal archive
We won’t, unfortunately, get that opportunity. In February, Netflix scrapped Edelman’s documentary after executors of Prince’s estate, reportedly upset by its content
The streaming platform plans to develop “a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archive.” In other words: a watered-down take
This dispiriting saga reveals much about the bleak state of the celebrity documentary complex in 2025: they are plentiful on streaming platforms yet increasingly indistinguishable from sponsored content. In raw numbers, documentaries are more popular than ever

Netflix’s capitulation lays it all out in the open
sanitised celebrity docs flood the marketplace while distributors balk at complicated and/or unauthorised films providing complex portraits of their subjects
It will be an impoverished world where authors fear to publish unauthorised biographies because they can’t afford to be sued by the subject
The corporate culture of capitulation has only worsened since Trump’s re-election. In December, ABC News agreed to pay $15m to settle what some consider a frivolous lawsuit from Trump. In April, the executive producer of 60 Minutes resigned
saying his journalistic integrity had been compromised by corporate higher-ups
who have been considering their own Trump settlement

Tennessee freshman wide receiver and former Sheffield star Radarious Jackson had one of those moments
His acrobatic catch during the Orange and White spring game on April 12 went viral and could be a prelude of what to expect from the four-star recruit for Tennessee in 2025
"He showed a big flash in the spring game with a one-handed catch," Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said at the Big Orange Caravan stop in Memphis on April 29
"That's who he was consistently throughout the spring
meaning that he made plays and when he got the ball in his hands
206-pound Jackson had 1,604 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns his senior season at Sheffield
Heupel said he's seen the same player he saw on film and then some
"What I've been really excited about is how mature he's been since he got to campus
but really in mid-January when we started our winter semester," Heupel said
"He shows up the same guy every single day
He competes at an elite level and takes coaching extremely well."
Tennessee currently has just seven scholarship receivers on its roster
and only three who made catches last season in Chris Brazzell
With his spring performances and potential development over the summer
Heupel said it's not hard to imagine Jackson being in the mix for snaps when practices resume in August
"I love what he did in the spring," Heupel added
like all of those first-year guys that started in January
if they do the right thing here in May and then in our summer program
they have a chance to show up in a different way when they get to training camp
meaning they look and operate like a seasoned vet
When he spoke with The Commercial Appeal on signing day in December
Jackson was ready to start his new journey in Knoxville
"I'm really looking forward to coming in and showing that I can be a playmaker," Jackson said
"I'm really excited about what he's done in a short amount of time since January," Heupel said
"He's a young guy that's got a huge ceiling and I'm excited to see him continue to grow."

April has been a whirlwind for fans as it began with the exciting news that Merrill would be a member of the Padres through the 2034 season as he signed a nine-year
$135 million deal on the second day of the month
The extremely team-friendly could only be celebrated for about six days
when Merrill was then placed on the injured list for a hamstring strain
What was supposed to be a quick stint resulted in keeping out the superstar much longer than fans would have hoped for
and a slew of other Friars injuries during April made for an uncomfortable stretch in terms of depth
The now 22-year-old Merrill will have to wait just one more day than his intended return date
but given the weather at Yankee Stadium Monday

RALEIGH – Attorney General Jeff Jackson took legal action against Stone Brook Partners
to require them to respond to the Department of Justice’s investigative demands
and Attorney General Jackson is currently seeking summary judgment in the case against MV Realty
Both companies allegedly convinced North Carolinians to sign dishonest
locking them into decades-long contracts with no way out
“These real estate companies scammed North Carolinians into signing contracts that force them into predatory long-term agreements,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson
who is trying new tactics to rip off people in our state
We’re going to use every legal tool at our disposal to do right by homeowners.”
NCDOJ sued MV Realty in 2023 for targeting vulnerable homeowners and offering them an up-front cash payment in exchange for committing to use the company’s services
MV Realty allegedly failed to disclose that the agreements they offered to homeowners committed them to exclusively using MV Realty for decades
placing liens on their property to enforce the deals
Stone Brook Partners is under investigation for similar predatory practices
allegedly offering consumers cash in exchange for giving the company the rights to make the first offer to buy the home if the homeowners decide to sell
These agreements also reportedly contained hidden 30-year commitments and other exploitative terms
Attorney General Jackson is seeking a court order forcing Stone Brook Partners to turn over documents relevant to the investigation

A Mississippi law may block the Jackson City Council from voting at their May 6 meeting on proposed pay raises for themselves and the mayor
Currently, members of the Jackson City Council earn $25,000 per year, while Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba earns $120,000. The proposed raises would have increased the mayor's salary to $170,000 and the council's to $35,000
Jackson’s elected officials fall somewhere in the middle
The mayor’s $120,000 salary is lower than those in cities such as Memphis
but higher than in Montgomery and Shreveport
the Jackson City Council’s $25,000 salary is below several peer cities but above others
Below is an explanation of why the council may not be able to go through with the proposed pay raises after all
the Clarion Ledger reviewed the salaries of council members and mayors of neighboring cities including Birmingham
the raises would take effect when the new council takes office
it looks like the council won't be voting on the increases at all
Ward 7 Councilwoman and Council President Virgi Lindsay said she is planning to put the salary increases as a discussion item on the council's May 6 meeting agenda
Lindsay is not seeking reelection this year
so even if the council could vote on a salary increase
if we were within the timeframe to get this done
I think it was simply an oversight," Lindsay said
"I will encourage the next council to take this up as the pay increases are badly needed."
Most council members agreed that salary increases are necessary to attract more qualified candidates
the mayor and council haven’t had a raise since 2001

Just down U.S. 49 from Jackson, the mayor of Hattiesburg, Toby Barker, earns $140,000 per year, while the Hattiesburg City Council receives $35,000, according to WDAM. There are five members on Hattiesburg's council
The City Council voted to increase their own salaries
Hattiesburg council proposed the salary raise in an attempt to attract more qualified candidates to run for elected office
MemphisMemphis Mayor Paul Young earns $227,500 per year
The Memphis City Council, made up of 13 members, earns $37,808.42 per year, according to a January report released by the City of Memphis
Each of the nine members of the Montgomery City Council member makes $18,000
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell earns approximately $188,000 annually, according to a 2022 article from WWLTV

greenlighting Season 3 before Season 2 has even aired
Nexus Point News has learned that casting is already underway
with filming scheduled to begin this July in Vancouver
Based on the beloved book series by Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has garnered praise for its faithful adaptation
The novels follow the titular character as he learns that he is the son of the Greek god
Percy (Walker Scobell) finds his way to Camp Half-Blood
where his fellow young demigods are educated about their respective destinies
Percy’s fate is extraordinary even under such circumstances
Disney will also adapt Riordan’s additional Percy Jackson novels for TV
including The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian
Prior to Disney’s acquisition of the rights to the source material
20th Century Fox adapted the first two Percy Jackson novels into feature films in 2010 and 2013 respectively
In spite of an impressive cast — Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth Chase)
Rosario Dawson (Persephone) — the films are not particularly faithful to the books
whereas Season 1 of the Disney TV series allotted eight 33 to 43-minute episodes to retell the story of Percy’s first year at Camp Half-Blood
fans can likely assume that similar effort and space will be provided for Season 2 and 3 and (hopefully) beyond

The Missouri Valley Football Conference will undergo a new governance and operating structure
approved by the MVFC President’s Council
The football-only league will be under a joint management model between the Missouri Valley Conference and the Summit League
creating a new governance and operating structure for the single-sport conference
HERO Sports first reported this enhanced MVFC-Summit League partnership last month
Jeff Jackson has been named the next MVFC Commissioner
and Josh Fenton will be the Executive Advisor
Jackson has served as Commissioner of the MVC since 2021
He will assume his duties as MVFC Commissioner on July 1
Fenton has served as The Summit League’s Commissioner since 2023
Current MVFC commissioner Patty Viverito is set to retire on June 30
and South Dakota State play their other sports in the Summit League
And Youngstown State is in the Horizon League
“I eagerly anticipate working with the MVFC Presidents Council
and the Athletic Directors of the MVFC,” Jackson said
“This partnership will foster a mutually beneficial relationship between our two conferences
ensuring the continued success of the MVFC while establishing a stable framework for our membership
Our collective efforts will be instrumental in delivering an exceptional experience for student-athletes.” “The Summit League and all its member institutions are excited for this new partnership with the Missouri Valley Conference to assist in the operations of the best FCS Football conference across the country,” Fenton said
“I look forward to working with Commissioner Jackson and his team to advance the interests of our football programs
while also continuing to build a strong Summit League.”
“This restructuring ensures the continued success and stability of the MVFC,” UND President Andy Armacost
who is currently serving as the MVFC President’s Chair
“By streamlining our management and enhancing collaboration among member institutions across three conferences – the Summit League
and the Horizon League – we are positioning ourselves for sustained growth and continued national prominence.”
the MVFC will remain an independent legal entity
distinct from its member institutions’ multisport conferences
The updated governance model includes a board of directors
The MVC and Summit League will play a role in administrative operations
as this is mostly behind-the-scenes changes to the day-to-day operations
But it could help in improving multimedia presence
The MVFC is also looking at doing an in-person media day this summer
And the partnership could play a huge role in realignment
The new partnership puts the Summit League in a position of power in adding new members, either from Utah or Texas
as new members would automatically have a spot in the MVFC

As "Someone to Call My Lover" arrives
Jackson claims her third top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart
She has performed even better on the more focused R&B Digital Song Sales list
the singer has now landed seven placements on the former and a milestone 10 on the latter
"Someone to Call My Lover" comes close to tying as Jackson’s highest-rising hit on both digital tallies
it just misses matching with both "No Sleeep" featuring J
Cole and "Made for Now" with Daddy Yankee
missing out on giving the legend her first champions by a single space
5 and remains her top performer on that list
Jackson earns the highest debut this week on both tallies
Muni Long’s "Made for Me" opens at No
while Beyoncé’s "Die With You" (4-4-17) returns at No
On the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart
"Baby Come Back" by Player kicks off its time at No
"Fe!N" by Travis Scott and Playboi Carti lands at No
"Someone to Call My Lover" has recently gone viral
thanks to younger listeners discovering it on TikTok
That renewed interest – which has turned many tracks from decades past into chart wins in the past several years – is driving sales and streams
pushing the track back onto charts around the world
Even a modest uptick in purchases of a long-overlooked favorite can be enough to bring it back to the Billboard tallies
Originally released as the second single from All for You
"Someone to Call My Lover" danced to No
The hit earned Jackson a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance the following year
a group of Detroiters met to critique paintings over dinner and drinks
The group eventually named themselves The Scarab Club
the Detroit artists’ club and gallery has played an important part in the city’s art scene
the club is still a resource for Detroit artists and maintains a mission of fostering a more vibrant arts community in the city
is also focused on creating a space where art feels accessible—whether you're making it or looking at it
Jackson is the first Black woman to manage the Scarab Club gallery in its 100-plus year history
but she actually stumbled upon the Scarab Club by accident
After visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts one day
So she instead followed someone into a nearby building
it was membership-based—it was all of these things,” she said
Jackson was asked to do a workshop on resumes for the Scarab Club
like literally part of the team,” Jackson said
Jackson used drawing and art as a way to express herself
That love of art was fostered by both her parents and her teachers in Detroit Public Schools
But Jackson didn't initially see working in the art world as a viable career
She also excelled at science and math in school
when she became a freshman at Western Michigan University
Jackson initially was intent on studying chemical engineering
were always in the background sustaining me as I was doing these structural things that you're ‘supposed’ to do to create a career for yourself,” she said
or that I could truly make a career in the arts.”
Jackson spent most of her career in nonprofit work as a graphic designer and brand manager
While working at the Houston Public Library in 2006
Jackson tried her hand at curating projects
I would hear so much news about my hometown
and a lot of the news was about Detroit coming back.”
Jackson was excited to hear of the city’s revival
who were Detroit culture creators and artists
“I would never see them in the stories that I was seeing
so I knew that the nation was getting not the whole story of Detroit,” she said
and part of the way I did that was through developing projects that used art.”
Jackson said she believes “art has this brand of being for a particular class of people
She is proud of the way Detroit is breaking that brand
and wants the Scarab Club to be part of that work
“What we have been doing is making things like membership more accessible
creating exhibitions that look and feel more like Metro Detroit,” Jackson explained
“People like me becoming part of the team and that are Detroiters
and Norman Rockwell have visited the Scarab Club
Jackson is invested in telling their stories
as well as the stories of the artists who are shaping Detroit today
“One thing that I'm very interested in is more storytelling...sharing more stories about the artists of Detroit through the Scarab Club lens,” Jackson said
“So many artists have come through those doors over these 100 years or 100-plus years
but knowing those that came before and knowing extraordinary artists that are here now
I want to help tell more of their stories.”

Supreme court justice also spoke of White House’s undermining of the constitution and rule of law
The US supreme court justice Ketanji Brown Jackson condemned the Trump administration’s attacks on the judiciary in a cutting speech at a judicial conference on Thursday evening
Without mentioning Donald Trump by name, Jackson spoke of “the elephant in the room” and rhetoric from the White House “designed to intimidate the judiciary”
“ Across the nation, judges are facing increased threats of not only physical violence, but also professional retaliation just for doing our jobs,” said Jackson, according to the New York Times. “And the attacks are not random. They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity.”
Read moreThe justice’s comments are the most direct criticism of the Trump administration by a supreme court justice since the US chief justice, John Roberts, rebuked the Trump administration in March for pushing for the impeachment of a federal judge
Jackson made the remarks at a judicial conference in Puerto Rico
Federal judges have said the Trump administration has failed to comply with court orders regarding foreign aid
federal spending and the firing of government workers
The administration disputes it has defied judges but has been critical of orders and judges that have blocked its actions
Judges have also come under pressure in Trump’s campaign to deport migrants, as in Wisconsin
where a judge was arrested after she allegedly helped an immigrant evade federal authorities
Local judges have chafed at the idea of arresting migrants in local courthouses
“The threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy
And they ultimately risk undermining our constitution and the rule of law,” Jackson said
Jackson urged her judicial colleagues to show “raw courage” to continue their work. “I urge you to keep going, keep doing what is right for our country, and I do believe that history will vindicate your service,” she said according to Politico
The supreme court has a 6-3 conservative majority

Katherine Jackson has reached an age many people don’t see: 95 years old. The matriarch and mother of some of the biggest superstars in the world received an outpouring of love for her birthday on social media
LaToya Jackson posted a video of her out to dinner with her mom and included a caption celebrating her.
“This amazing lovely lady turned 95 today! Her expression of love and kindness is always deeply felt! We all love you Mother! 🌹❤️😘” the caption read.

The Indiana native and author also shares a birthday with her son, Jackie Jackson, a founding member of the Jackson 5. The 74-year-old also penned a birthday message to his mom on Instagram and shared a throwback photo of them smiling.
“Happy Birthday to the most incredible woman I know—my beautiful mother and the matriarch of our family, Katherine Jackson. 🎉💜” he wrote. “There’s no one I’d rather share my birthday with. Your strength, love, and wisdom have shaped who I am, and I’m forever grateful. Here’s to many more celebrations together. Love you always. 💐🎂”

The matriarch is a mother of ten and had all of them with her late husband
They married in 1949 after meeting at a party
Michael Jackson doted over what a dedicated mother Katherine is in his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk
“Every child thinks their mother is the greatest mother in the world
but we Jacksons never lost that feeling,” he wrote
“Because of Katherine’s gentleness
I can’t imagine what it’s like to grow up without a mother’s love.”
“The lessons she taught us were invaluable
and consideration for other people headed her list.”
The Friars should have their starting lineup intact by next weekend
As we begin the second month of the 2025 Major League Baseball season
the postseason pretenders and contenders start to take shape
baseball fans do not pay attention to the division standings until Memorial Day
The San Diego Padres will state their case as a playoff contender
but they must first patiently wait for the return of two starters to the lineup next week
The addition of Jackson Merrill and Jake Cronenworth brings high expectations for all
The good news is both Merrill and Cronenworth have begun rehab work at the Padres sports complex in Peoria
The target dates for their return are May 5 for Merrill and May 9 for Cronenworth
each player might be eased into the lineup
as it may take some time to get their timing back in the field and at the plate
The return of Merrill adds some pop to the lineup
which has been missing a consistent left-handed longball threat since he found himself on the injury list
he seemed like a lock to represent the Friars in this season’s Mid-Summer Classic
Merrill hit .378 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs before tweaking his right hamstring
It is unknown if he can continue at this pace once Merrill returns to the lineup
there is evidence that he will continue to attack the zone
His stance allows him to protect the inside corner by shortening his stroke and pulling the ball over the first base bag
Merrill’s balance in the box gives him enough plate protection to drive an outside pitch to the opposite field for an extra-base hit
let’s not forget his value as a plus glove in center field
Tyler Wade has done a terrific job in his absence
but the return of Merrill is unwelcome news for gap hitters
He has been chasing down those drives since his rookie debut last season
The early storm of inconsistent play that has hovered over the Padres can be blown out to sea if Merrill performs to his standard of excellence
The Padres offense has missed Cronenworth’s ability to pull the ball down the line with runners in scoring position
Cronenworth’s average exit velocity was 89.6 MPH
he was batting .257 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs in 12 games
The two-time All-Star is trying to earn his third appearance
as Cronenworth could be chosen solely for his exceptional fielding skills at second base
He has a .938 fielding percentage with two errors in 32 chances
Two months may be long enough to make a case for himself
The return of Merrill and Cronenworth provides some lineup flexibility at the designated hitter’s position
It gives Padres manager Mike Shildt some options as the season progresses
The Friar Faithful may see more of Jose Iglesias as the right-handed DH option in the lineup
Gavin Sheets has done a terrific job as the left-handed DH
He is still producing at the same rate as in spring training
But Iglesias deserves consideration for more at-bats after being thrust into the lineup
He played well at second base in Cronenworth’s absence
Iglesias is a skilled hitter who produced 10 RBI in limited at-bats
He has developed into a valuable depth piece off the bench
Now is the time for Iglesias to become the right-handed DH if he is not playing in the field
The Friars welcome back two versatile hitters who can bat anywhere in the order
Merrill and Cronenworth have the plate discipline to draw a walk
you could see their name posted anywhere in the order
Merrill and Cronenworth can recapture their previous form upon their return to the lineup
The Padres have not looked like a complete team without them

a well-known Detroit-based DJ known for hosting the popular local club night ‘Taco Tuesdays,’ has passed away at the age of 35

Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush was arrested Sunday on charges of simple assault and harassment
Bush was arrested at his home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bell Acres Borough, according to a police criminal complaint, after his girlfriend alleged he assaulted her and took her car keys. CBS Pittsburgh was the first to report Bush’s arrest
Bush’s girlfriend told police she and Bush got into an argument and she began to video record it on her cellphone
She alleged Bush “began to chase her through the house trying to get the phone,” according to the complaint
and pinned her against a table before smashing the phone
The woman and her daughter left for a neighbor’s home
Police said Bush admitted to smashing the phone but denied getting physical with her
The simple assault was listed as a second-degree misdemeanor
and the harassment charge was listed as a summary offense
Bush has a preliminary hearing on the charges set for May 20
A Browns spokesperson said the team was aware of the arrest and was gathering more information
The Browns’ offseason conditioning program started in late April
Bush is a 2019 first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers
He played for Seattle in 2023 and started 10 games last season for the Browns
He signed a new one-year contract to remain with Cleveland in March
