made a bet with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver
Justin Jefferson earlier in the week.
poorly executed,” he told reporters after doing the viral dance move in parc fermé
“I met Justin Jefferson on Thursday who has essentially made the griddy world famous and I stupidly made a bet with him that if I won the race I’d do one for him,” Piastri explained.
the 24-year-old didn’t expect to be standing on the top step of the podium
I thought that it was definitely not going to be needed,” he said
“So that was my first attempt at a griddy live on world TV
I stayed true to the bet but that’s the one and only time you’re doing to see me doing that.”
Jefferson was quick to react to the clip of Piastri doing the dance move
LETS GOOOOO.” It comes a couple of days after the NFL player visited Hard Rock Stadium
You'll be the first one,” Jefferson said after teaching Piastri his infamous post-touchdown celebration
I'll do it for you," Piastri replied.

Fire engulfs an Augusta Road residence in Jefferson the evening of Friday
The home was ultimately a “total loss,” said resident Carol Mathews
Jefferson residents lost their home and pet cat in a Friday
April 25 fire that was ultimately ruled to be accidental by the Office of the State Fire Marshal
Firefighters from nine towns first worked for over five hours to contain the blaze at 710 Augusta Road that evening
when the blaze rekindled in the early hours of the next morning
crews returned for another five-hour-long effort
who resided in the home with her sister Jan Mathews
thanked the Jefferson Fire Department for its “heroic” work over many hours at the scene
She said she and her sister were “grateful and humbled” by the support they had received from the Jefferson community in the wake of the fire
According to Jefferson Fire Chief Darin Walker
the state fire marshal’s investigation indicated the blaze started from improperly disposed smoking materials that ignited behind the home sometime before 5:30 p.m
the blaze went unnoticed; the residents were outside in the front yard and were unaware of the blaze for a period of time Walker estimated may have been around 10-15 minutes
“It caught the back side of the house on fire outside
and then it just ran up the walls into the soffit vent and right to the peak (of the roof),” Walker said
Soffit vents allow air into attic spaces for essential ventilation
when you’ve got a fire outside that climbs the walls
the ventilation system does what it’s supposed to,” Walker said
As the blaze took over the attic of the home
the back side of the garage and house was all afire,” Walker said
and the Lincoln County Communications Center paged the Jefferson
Nobleboro fire departments to the scene at 5:36 p.m.
along with Waldoboro EMS and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office
The lag time between when the blaze began to burn and its discovery complicated efforts to fight the fire
“It had such a good head start that it compromised the roof pretty quickly
so it had actually burnt the ridge beam right out,” he said
The house was build solidly with post-and-beam construction
the rear half of the building’s roof had been reinforced with metal
Metal roofs are often placed on top of existing shingle roofs
creating a challenge for firefighters by sheltering the blaze from the reach of hoses
it’s one of the worst things in the world that we can encounter,” he said
It’s harder to vent and it won’t burn through … Then you get fire in between the metal and the shingles.”
Walker said he suspects the space between the metal roof and house structure had contributed to the fire’s rekindling later that evening
Firefighters initially knocked down the fire in about five hours and cleared the scene at about 10:30 p.m
the Jefferson Fire Department was called to the scene again after a caller reported the fire had rekindled
“We had just gotten home from putting the fire truck back together,” Walker said
The crew would remain on the scene until the sky was light
Walker said he was surprised by the second call
the crew walked the property with a thermal imaging camera and recorded no surfaces warmer than 65 degrees Fahrenheit
According to both Walker and Carol Mathews
the building is “a total loss.” When the fire first broke out
the sisters successfully removed their vehicles from the garage and got their two dogs out of the home
and have not been able to find the cat among the wreckage of the house
The pair assumed the cat was a casualty of the blaze
No people were injured in the course of fighting the fire
He said he believed they had homeowner’s insurance
Mathews called the firefighters who worked to contain the blaze “heroic one and all.”
She and Janice Mathews are staying with a neighbor and friend after losing their house
The kindness of their fellow Jefferson residents was humbling
“Lots of folks in the community that don’t have a clue who we are have reached out to offer support and help; very awesome town we live in,” she said

He had an NFL star cheering him on Sunday in Miami in Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson
The Vikings star voiced his support for the McLaren driver — and his dance moves — on X
The two met up prior to the race and Jefferson taught him how to do the griddy, a dance move Jefferson's done after scoring touchdowns many times in his NFL career
"No one has ever done it in racing," Jefferson said
Piastri also drove Jefferson around the track in a McLaren road car during the weekend
Plans have been submitted to the City of Spokane to refurbish the Jefferson and Norman buildings
Some 40 units of housing and four commercial spaces are planned to revive the former hotel as part of a $5.5 million project
At the southeast corner of 1st Avenue and Jefferson Street
the two buildings are across the street from the Parsons Apartment building and a block east of Brick West Brewing
according to Spokane County property records
the buildings were once a modern hotel with private telephones in each room and was touted as being “Spokane’s exclusive family hotel,” according to the Spokane County Historic Preservation Office
The hotel was also operated as low-income housing before it was vacated
The properties were jointly sold in November for $1.1 million to Chris Batten
owner of Spokane-based real estate company
Batten is planning to renovate the basement of the conjoined buildings to include bike storage for its residents
The street-level floor will be divided into four commercial spaces and the upper floor will be apartment units
Both the upper floors will house 20 units consisting of two studios
Spokane-based Olson Projects designed the project
Spokane Addiction Recovery Center has been operating at its lower South Hill location for decades and now plans have been submitted to the city of Spokane to update their campus
Located at the northwest corner of 6th Avenue and Walnut Street
the project is estimated to cost $8 million
operates in two buildings that are roughly 70 years old
Plans show Addiction Recovery officials will have crews demolish the two structures and replace them with a new building
The new building is planned to be larger than the two previous buildings
The work will also include 20-paved parking spaces
Attempts to reach Spokane Addiction Recovery officials this month were unsuccessful
recently opened a taproom at their production facility located just southeast of the intersection of Division Street and Montgomery Ave
submitted plans to the city of Spokane to improve the taproom located at 125 E
the 15,000-square-foot One Tree Cider facility will soon include an 800-square-foot taproom that will add more seating and a keg table
One Tree previously opened locations in Spokane Valley and downtown Spokane but has since moved all operations to its north Spokane location

Jefferson in Class 3A and Buford in Class 6A have sat at or near the top of their respective classifications all season in the Scorbord.com poll
Both roll into Monday's quarterfinals of the Georgia High School Association playoffs
perhaps peaking at the right time with a pair of dominating wins in the first two rounds
outscored their first two opponents 15-0 while the Lady Wolves routed their first two opponents 17-0
Jefferson is playing host to Dawson County at Memorial Stadium on Monday while Buford takes on Brookwood at home
But they aren’t the only northeast Georgia area teams on a roll
After a shaky start to the season without a full roster
Cherokee Bluff has been as hot as any team in the state.
All three reached the semifinals or better in 2024 and are looking for return trips on Monday
a preseason favorite to also be a major player in Class 3A backed by national standout Bristol Kersh
struggled early on while Kersh and several other key players were helping the Lady Bears' basketball team win a state title
But once Kersh and the rest joined for good
Bluff (13-6) has gone 10-1 over its last 11 matches
Bluff coach Heath Padgett said there weren't any major changes in strategy
“We knew the front half of our schedule was going to be tough
especially without our full roster,” Padgett said
It allowed all of our players to gain necessary experience as we moved into our region schedule
scoring goals and keeping the other team from scoring is how you win
and Samantha Diaz -- were put to the test early and learned to communicate and work as a unit early on
impressed and earned everyone's respect from day one.
“When we added Bristol to our attack
it allowed us to open up our play getting more players in the attack
and Addison Dovie were able to start possessing the ball to allow our defenders to get into the attack with Haley Hunter
who has proven to be dangerous up top.”
may face the toughest matchup of the playoffs
taking on top-ranked Brookwood in a monster showdown at Buford High School
who is trying to guide the Lady Wolves to a second-consecutive state championship match
said the message was a simple one for her squad
“The road to trying to win a state championship in the highest classification is difficult,” said Hill
whose group last year lost to West Forsyth in the title match in Class 7A
We normally focus on ourselves and what we need to do in order to be successful.”
One goal could win it as both teams feature almost impenetrable defenses
Brookwood (18-0) has allowed just 3 goals while Buford (19-0) has given up just 8 goals on the season
Brookwood has scored 104 goals (5.78 goals/game) and Buford has tallied 97 goals (5.1 gpg) in 2025
“They have some very dynamic attacking players and so do we,” Hill said
“Everyone has a role on the team and if our attacking players fill that role I think we can find success.”
a win for the Lady Bears over the Lady Bobcats could set up a potential rematch with Jefferson in the Final 4
The Lady Dragons knocked off the Lady Bears in both teams’ Region 8-3A openers back on March 7
Padgett said they’re focused on Gilmer but also understand what possibly lies ahead
“Our eyes are set on Monday at the moment
We have to play our game (on Monday) or it won’t matter,” he said
“Our girls love playing at home and will feed off the energy from our supporters
“But we’re also excited to potentially get another shot (at Jefferson)
We have the utmost respect for their program
Their coaching has done a great job this year and they are very talented in every position
Playing them at full strength would make for a great game.”
Those aren't the only teams with a chance to move into the Final 4 on Monday
Habersham Central (8-5A) takes on Roswell (7-5A) at Raider Stadium in a battle of region champs

When Mayor Daniel Lurie, Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, and Supervisor Stephen Sherrill took office, they faced a big public safety challenge: Jefferson Square Park, just a few blocks away from City Hall, was overrun by a night drug market
The community filed complaints after complaints to the city to shut down the dusk-till-dawn open-air drug market which was near schools and senior living facilities
The drug scene at the park looked like the set of the zombie flick
With the advocacy and hard work of Supervisors Bilal Mahmood and Stephen Sherrill who share the jurisdiction of the park, the city raided and shut down the out-of-control drug market on February 26th evening
The massive drug raid involved multiple agencies: the San Francisco Police Department
The city has since returned the park to the community
The Community Gathered To Thank Their Heroes
To express their gratitude to the city for saving their park and commemorate Earth Day, the community in collaboration with the Rec and Parks Department and the Tenderloin Merchants Association organized park clean-up, wildflower seeding, and cake picnic at Jefferson Square Park on April 26th
60-80 people participated in the event on a beautiful sunny day
Several of the volunteers even came from Glen Park
and downtown to help the neighbors beautify the park and teach their children about volunteerism and environmentalism
It was inspiring to see our Generation Z caring for their environment and trying to make our beloved city a better place to live
It proves that there is hope that our city will have future mayors
and community activists who also will preserve and protect our parks like the present ones have done
the Rec and Parks Department provided 2 trees to be planted at the park: Cherry Blossom and Primrose
A Primrose Tree Planted by The Community At Jefferson Square Park
Supervisor Bilal Mahmood; Supervisor Stephen Sherrill; Supervisor Matt Dorsey; SFFD Chief Dean Crispen; SFPD Tenderloin Acting Captain Kevin Knoble joined by some of the officers who helped the night of the arrest; Rec and Parks Director of Operations Eric Anderson who did the lighting in the park joined by park rangers; and the Deputy Director of Public Works DiJaida Durden who lives and grew up in the neighborhood and raised many dogs in the park since the 70s attended the joyful event
Crispen and Knoble explained to the crowd how complicated and dangerous the park raid was for the officers involved due to the park’s large space and bushes
And drug dealers got the clear message to stay away from the Jefferson Square Park neighborhood
Some called it a “Dud” but success is watching hope take root again
we saw a much different takeover of Jefferson Square Park
Over sixty people came to help clean up the park
and plant flowers to celebrate taking their park back from the open-air drug market that thrived there until February
We didn’t raid the park to see how many arrests we could rack up
That’s what the cynics & critics used to express their displeasure with drug dealers and chronic users from being “disturbed.” We did it so this community could once again use a community gathering place meant to be enjoyed by all
Special thanks to @bilalmahmood, @scsherrill for their work at Jefferson Square Park & who are committed to working to make our communities safer.“–Return Of Jefferson Square Park by SF POA
After District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood helped plant the Cherry Blossom tree along with Crispen and Knoble
The community named the tree after its member
Sebastian for his passion for community gardening and rescuing plants
Supervisors Matt Dorsey And Stephen Sherrill At Jefferson Square Park
“What we saw in February at Jefferson Square Park was about more than cleanup. It was about restoring community. We’re staying focused on lasting safety, dignity, and making this neighborhood work for the people who live here.“-District 2 Supervisor Stephen Sherrill
Celebrating The Positive Changes At Jefferson Square Park
“Two months after the Jefferson Square Park police action, the open-air drug market is gone—and the community is reclaiming this space. Seeing neighbors gather is a powerful reminder: every neighborhood deserves safety, and people on our streets need treatment. Let’s keep going.”–San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie
The event was concluded with a cake picnic during which several community members came up to me and said
“The darkness [at Jefferson Square Park] is gone now
Blossom on the tree, birds flying high, butterflies all having fun, and the community is feeling good

but Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson definitely threw some shade in the direction of Russell Wilson and the rest of the New York Giants quarterback room with some recent comments
It wasn't done in any sort of malicious way
Jefferson was interviewed by Bleacher Report recently and he was asked about former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders falling to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of this year's NFL Draft. The Vikings receiver sounded just as surprised as a lot of people were when Sanders kept getting passed on by every team in the league
"I think it’s crazy that [Sanders] dropped that far in the draft
I definitely don’t think he should have dropped that far.Just watching him [in his] previous seasons and seeing the different things that he did at Colorado
I definitely thought he should have been drafted in [the first or] second round.I guess it’s just more fire for him and more chip on his shoulder that he can use going into the league."
In addition to his thoughts about Sanders falling to the fifth round
Jefferson was also asked where he thought the former Colorado quarterback should have ended up in this year's NFL Draft
[the] New York [Giants don't] really have a quarterback
Cleveland definitely does need a quarterback also."
The Giants don't really have a quarterback
New York fans probably aren't too thrilled with this comment
This offseason, the Giants not only signed Wilson
who is 36-years-old and has a 23-32 record as a starter since 2021
1 overall draft pick Jameis Winston in free agency
who hasn't been a full-time starter since 2019 when he threw 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
To New York's credit, they did use a first-round pick on former Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart in last month's NFL Draft
But no one is expecting Dart to play for the Giants immediately next season
New York's current quarterback room is still full of questions
and Jefferson was just saying what a lot of people said leading up to the 2025 draft about how Sanders could've been a good option for the Giants since they didn't have a signal-caller on their roster with the potential to be the next face of the franchise

University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law Curators’ Professor Nancy Levit
is the 2025 Thomas Jefferson Award recipient
given by the University of Missouri System
honors a member of the University of Missouri community who "through personal influence and performance of duty in teaching
devotion and loyalty to the University best exemplifies the principles and ideals of Thomas Jefferson."
“The Thomas Jefferson Award is so meaningful because it represents commitment to the ideals of reason
free expression and the dissemination of knowledge,” Levit said
“The real honor goes to my wonderful colleagues of 36 years who have made UMKC such an exciting intellectual home.”
Levit is the second person in her family to receive the Thomas Jefferson Award
received the award in 1984 during his time as a philosophy and education professor at UMKC
Marty was drawn to UMKC in part for its emphasis on interdisciplinary education
Marty and Nancy Levit also share a love for teaching and building relationships with their students and colleagues
“The last line of my father’s obituary was appreciation for the thousands of students who enriched his life
and that’s a sentiment I feel every day,” Levit said
“The students are the best part of the job
Watching them find their niche and the things that excite them is so energizing.”
Levit joined the UMKC School of Law as a faculty member in 1988
In addition to the law courses she teaches
Levit is the long-time faculty advisor to the UMKC Law Review
more than 50 law review articles and more than 10 book chapters
including the Missouri Lawyers Media Women’s Justice Legal Scholar Award (2011)
UMKC School of Law Professor of the Year Award six times
university-wide Chancellor’s Award for Teaching (2011)
Missouri Governor’s Teaching Award (2004

“I can think of few more deserving of receiving the Thomas Jefferson Award than Professor Levit,” said Lumen Mulligan
“She is a leading voice today on fairness in the workplace
She has enriched the lives of generations of UMKC law students as a gifted teacher
and her service to the university and the profession have no equal
That she now joins her father as a recipient of this award is
Levit’s relationship with the university began through her father
but it has been sustained in large part due to the strong faculty and student relationships that are prominent within the law school
“One of the hallmarks of the UMKC School of Law is that it is a truly collegial and happy place,” Levit said
we tell them to look around because these people will become their best friends and colleagues for years to come
My fellow faculty are terrific at having meaningful conversations with students about their interests and goals and then helping them make connections in the community
Something that UMKC law students learn is to be other-directed
to give back. Alumni come and give back
We have a whole city of lawyers willing to share their expertise with our students.”
Bough has organized several symposia for the UMKC Law Review on innovative criminal sentences
multidistrict litigation and Missouri specialty courts and regularly provides his expertise to students
“Professor Levit taught my first-year torts class
and for 30 years she has continued to teach me about the law
humanity and how to be a better person,” Bough said
“She is always available to give great advice and refers the best law clerks
Nancy could teach at any law school in the country; we are blessed that she has chosen UMKC Law School.”

2YXJFD5 Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson celebrates after catching a 7-yard touchdown pass during the first half of an NFL football game against the Chicago Bears
PFF’s Fantasy Football Player Profile series delivers the most in-depth fantasy football analysis available for the 2025 season
competition for touches and how teammates and coaching staffs will impact each player's fantasy football outlook
Jefferson has been the best wide receiver in the NFL since he was drafted in 2020
earning a league-leading 93.6 receiving grade
He also ranks first in receiving yards per game at 96.5 and yards per route run at 2.64
He’s ranked among the top five fantasy wide receivers in the last four seasons
No other wide receiver has accomplished that more than twice in those four years
you have to put in some work to reach the best views of a trail system
In the case of newly reopened Whitewater Creek road and trail
just the drive to the trailhead is breathtaking — showcasing dramatic views of Mount Jefferson set in a moonscape of burned forest
But those looking for adventure need not worry
A challenging early-season hike and snowshoe adventure to an unnamed peak offers an even better view
along with a look at an area transformed by two major wildfires that's been closed since 2020
A Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the Whitewater Creek Trailhead. A Central Cascades Wilderness permit, from Recreation.gov
will be required to enter from here beginning June 15
It’s difficult to explain how much the Whitewater area has been transformed since 2017
the road and trailhead has long been one of the most popular access points to the Mount Jefferson Wilderness
it was a green tunnel with trees blocking most of the views until you’d hiked a decent ways down the trail
The trail was popular because it provided the easiest and quickest access to the alpine meadows and lakes of Jefferson Park
one of the most popular sites in Oregon’s backcountry
The 2017 Whitewater Fire — which smoked up the sky in Detroit and Sisters during the total solar eclipse — burned this area the first time
It torched 11,500 acres and killed much of the area’s old growth forest
the trail was in the path of the Lionshead Fire
which exploded during the 2020 Labor Day fires event
the fire spread 17 miles from Mount Jefferson into Detroit
destroying much of the town and burning 204,469 acres in one of the most extreme wildfire blowups in state history
Whitewater road and trailhead officially reopened in November 2024 just as the snow began to fly
meaning few got a chance to see it before it was buried
it’s officially open now and makes for a fascinating drive and hike
The drive down Whitewater Creek Road 2243 is worth a trip by itself
The first view from the gravel road of Mount Jefferson comes 4 miles down the road
after a patch of intact forest and Cheat Creek Trailhead
In a valley where the entire forest has been burned
Oregon’s second-tallest mountain rises dramatically overhead
where you can drive that close to unimpeded views of a major Cascade peak
There is no shade and only one little road pullout
so I am not sure it would make for an amazing picnic spot unless you got creative and made your own off the side of the road
But the view of Jefferson is utterly spectacular
The road is in pretty good shape and probably suitable for most cars
although I typically recommend high-clearance vehicles for most forest roads
The road ends at Whitewater Creek Trailhead
there are already a number of downed trees across the trail and
snow begins to cover the trail a little more than a mile up the path
if you bring snowshoes and have strong navigating experience
there’s a wonderful early-season trip that can be had with about 4.5 miles round-trip and 1,500 feet of climb
which is a very challenging 12 miles round-trip
The snow will gradually melt out across May and June
popping over the downed trees and navigating across patches of snow
to the junction with Triangulation Peak Trail
It’s about 1.5 miles and 800 feet of climb to the sign marking the junction
The area has been so burned that it’s almost wide-open
and I was able to pick out an unnamed peak in the distance that looked like a promising goal
It was fairly easy to navigate up and around the islands of exposed rock and trudge uphill
I arrived just off the official trail at the peak
The view of Jefferson at this point is one of the best I’ve ever seen — the mountain so close it feels as though you could reach out and touch it
It’s hard to say what this route will look like once the snow melts
but it feels like it could become a good hiking destination in and of itself
Earlier this spring, guidebook author William Sullivan posted pictures and video from a trip he took along the Whitewater Trail all the way to Jefferson Park
That trip would require major backcountry experience
but for years it was a popular trip among experienced cross-country skiers
Whitewater Creek road and trailIn a nutshell: Drive a gravel forest road to view of Mount Jefferson
or continue on the trail for an early season mountain adventure
Distance: Drive 4 to 7 miles on Whitewater Creek Road 2243 to Jefferson view; hike/snowshoe 4.5 miles round-trip to unnamed peak; hike/ski/snowshoe 12 miles round-trip to Jefferson Park
The road is gravel but in good shape and may be suitable for low-clearance cars
Unnamed peak off Whitewater Trail: moderately difficult
Central Cascade limited entry permits required
continue on Highway 22 east for another 10 miles and turn left onto Forest Road 2243 (Whitewater Creek Road)
Continue on the gravel road for views of Mount Jefferson and 7.5 miles to the Whitewater Creek Trailhead

Parker Jefferson made plans to visit Gonzaga early last week and arrived in Spokane on Thursday
sharing photos from his campus tour on social media
It didn’t take the three-star center and former Minnesota signee much longer to take the next step with Gonzaga
230-pound three-star prospect who reopened his recruitment after the Golden Gophers made a coaching change
committed to Mark Few and the Zags on Friday morning
all I was hearing was ‘You’re a Gonzaga type of guy,’” Jefferson told Tipton
“Now that I finally got to get to campus and meet the staff
I look forward to seeing The Kennel rocking this year
and I’m excited to be playing under such an incredible coach in coach Few.”
The Texas native who spent last season at Inglewood (California) High School chose Gonzaga over Rutgers
another program that recently hosted Jefferson on an official visit
Jefferson picked Minnesota over his other finalist
but also had a handful of high-major offers from schools like Arkansas
The forward was released from his NLI (National Letter of Intent) after Minnesota fired Ben Johnson and hired Colorado State’s Niko Medved
Jefferson is considered a three-star prospect by On3.com and 247Sports.com
but he’s a top-150 recruit according to On3’s database as well as the website’s No
Gonzaga now has two high school signees in its 2025 recruiting class as Jefferson joins four-star wing Davis Fogle
a native of Anacortes who recently completed his senior season at Phoenix’s Compass Prep
If Jefferson isn’t a redshirt candidate for the Zags as a freshman
he’ll presumably come in as the fourth option in a loaded frontcourt that returns All-West Coast Conference First Team forward Graham Ike and Braden Huff
who joined GU’s starting lineup for the final three games last season
who played sparingly off the bench last year
should be primed for a bigger role as a sophomore
Jefferson has already drawn Drew Timme comparisons with his playing style and Texas roots
The forward grew up in the Dallas suburb of Waxahachie and attended Waxhachie High School
averaging 16.7 points and 9.5 rebounds as a junior before transferring to Inglewood High to play against better competition
Jefferson was named to the All-Ocean League First Team after scoring 30 points in five games
notching 17 double-doubles and recording a triple-double
soft touch around the rim and exceptional passing ability for his size and position
but has demonstrated some 3-point shooting range – something that could separate him from Timme
While describing Jefferson’s game in a recent scouting report
“Jefferson has good size with a frame that projects as he continues to mature
His range extends beyond the three-point line with consistency
but he is still young with a September 2006 birthday
there is a skill and IQ foundation to build on.”
Jefferson comes from a basketball background with mother Carrie formerly playing at Arkansas
Older brother Michael played at Iona and sister Kaylee played at Sam Houston State
was a former left tackle for Arkansas’ football team
The Zags should have top-end talent and depth in the frontcourt entering the 2025-26 season
but will likely still address other spots on the floor with their six remaining scholarships and postional needs at both wing and guard

Sanders dropped out of Round 1, then the entirety of Day 2. Every team in the league passed on him multiple times before the Cleveland Browns ended his fall in the fifth round
It was the most newsworthy fall in recent NFL Draft history
and it opens the door for Sanders to prove everyone wrong
The league thinks he’s a mediocre talent with off-field headaches that make a heavy investment impossible
Even the Browns drafted quarterback Dillon Gabriel to insulate the room ahead of a Sanders selection
After the NFL Draft, Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson was asked about Sanders’ slip, and Giants fans are saying the same thing about his comments
“I think it’s crazy that he went; he dropped that far in the draft,” Sanders said
“I definitely don’t think he should have dropped that far
and just watching him from the previous seasons and seeing the different things he did at Colorado
I definitely think that he should have been drafted in that first
I guess it’s just more fire for him
more chip on his shoulder that he could use going into the league.”
Sanders certainly had his share of fans during the draft cycle
and many expect him to eventually take over as the starter in Cleveland
When asked about where Sanders should have landed instead
Jefferson might have treaded toward controversy
“I mean New York doesn’t really have a quarterback
Cleveland definitely does need a quarterback also,” he said
Giants fans took exception with the mention of New York, especially when aggregation accounts implied that he was taking a shot at Russell Wilson. However, it isn’t immediately clear that he was referring to the Giants, when the New York Jets also entered the NFL Draft without a franchise quarterback. They’ll be rolling with Justin Fields
who faced Jefferson multiple times during his time in the NFC North
Jefferson could have been referring to the Jets
Fans could also lend Jefferson some lenience and assume he meant a long-term starter
there’s little need for Giants fans to have beef with the league’s best receiver
regardless of whether he isn’t fond of the team’s quarterback situation
they’ll have a chance to take it out on him from the stands when New York plays host to Minnesota in 2025
He graduated from Rutgers University's School of Journalism and Media Studies

with a backcourt that showed flashes of brilliance but had yet to break through
Jefferson was a seasoned veteran, and he joined a team with then-third-year Stephen Curry
and a fresh second-round pick named Draymond Green
the Warriors would go on to win four championships and play the best basketball
but few expected this young core to become one of the most dominant forces in NBA history
admitted that the dynasty wasn’t something he saw coming
“I wouldn’t say that I saw them evolving into this,” Jefferson said
“A lot of things went right for this to happen
If you would’ve told me those guys with Klay
that they’d win a championship in three-to-five years
I wouldn’t have batted my eye at that
The 2012-13 Warriors finished the regular season with a respectable 47-35 record
3 seed Denver Nuggets in the first round before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in the conference semifinals
The Warriors’ front office had done its homework
They selected Curry seventh overall in 2009
a decision that was met with skepticism due to his size and ankle concerns
Despite their promise, the Warriors weren’t quite ready to take the leap. The 2013-14 season saw them improve to 51 wins, but they suffered a disappointing first-round exit against the L.A. Clippers. The franchise needed a fresh vision, and that came in the form of Steve Kerr
His appointment in 2014 was totally out of the blue and felt like a gamble
Steve had zero experience and replaced Jackson
who had led the team to consecutive playoff appearances
Instead of the isolation-heavy offense under the former head coach, Kerr implemented a motion offense inspired by his time as a player with the Spurs. It emphasized ball movement, off-ball screens, and unselfish play — tailor-made for the skill sets of Thompson, Green, and especially Curry, who had been the leader since star guard Monta Ellis left
“Their best players all work hard,” said Jefferson, who was traded in 2013 to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Andre Iguodala

Golden State finished the regular season with a league-best 67-15 record
showcasing an electrifying style of play that had never been seen before
averaging 23.8 points and 7.7 assists per game while breaking 3-point records
Klay cemented himself as one of the deadliest shooters in the league, and Draymond became the team’s vocal leader and defensive anchor. The Dubs steamrolled through the competition, losing only five games en route to the NBA Finals, where they faced LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers
the Warriors secured their first title in 40 years
playing a crucial role in slowing down James
The dynasty that Jefferson never saw coming officially began
as Golden went on to make four straight finals
winning three championships in that period

Dallas artist Jesus Alba has restored a beloved mural at Jerry’s Supermarket on Jefferson Boulevard
The Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts selected Alba to refresh the piece
originally created to honor the Battle of Puebla – the May 5
victory when the Mexican army defeated the French during the Second French Intervention
the mural serves as a vibrant reminder of Mexican heritage and pride for parade attendees celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Bishop Arts
Coalition founder Silvana Avila Alonzo said she picked Alba because he stood out not just for his talent but for his deep ties to the community
the heritage that we all should celebrate because it is a rich heritage,” Alonzo said
Alba is known for creating murals and installations that celebrate Latin culture through the Latino Arts Project
20-foot-long artwork stretches across the side of Jerry’s Supermarket and portrays Aztec warriors dancing
the Texas and Mexico flags overlapping each other and also highlights modern life with lowriders and the Dallas skyline
Alba said he recalls visiting Jefferson Boulevard every weekend growing up
and he wanted to preserve the original elements while adding his own personal touch
He added a battle scene to emphasize the historic roots of the holiday
The restoration took Alba four days to complete
adding to the 20 murals he already has around the area
He hopes his efforts to give back to the city will inspire others
“It's way more important that I'm leaving my mark
so that hopefully I can inspire other young kids or other people that have the same goals and ambitions as me,” he said

After three-star recruit Parker Jefferson wrapped up his official visit to Spokane this Friday morning

Gonzaga’s 2025-26 frontcourt will consist of:
It’s a healthy mix of veterans and young talent who are long and athletic
this group will be considered one of the best in the country
This moves coach Mark Few’s 2025-26 roster to nine scholarships filled of the 15 spots available
it’s much too early for the Jefferson to decide to redshirt or not
