“Who wouldn’t fall in love with her?” Rosales remarked
his voice tinged with adoration as he recalled the magic of their beginnings
His eyes sparkled with admiration as they settled on Gutierrez
radiating confidence and charm in a stunning dress that accentuated her graceful figure
The couple then tried on some iconic pieces from Tiffany & Co
even teasing each other about which rings to wear
Gutierrez’s face lit up with a sweet

It was not love at first sight but love that developed at the first “meeting”
Jericho Rosales and Janine Gutierrez's story started when the former asked the latter to meet for coffee and go over the script for Lavender Fields
where they were to play the characters of a problematic married couple
I try to get to know the person [I would be working with],” Rosales says
“I was on a mission to bond with her [before we started filming].” The actor felt it was a necessary step for them to remove all barriers and be able to perform their roles properly on screen
their colleagues already had a hint that the invitation was intended to go beyond work; instead
it was Rosales’s way of getting closer to Gutierrez on a deeper
Gutierrez chuckles: “One of our co-stars in Lavender Fields
‘Why were you the only one he invited to coffee
so to be able to perform our roles convincingly
we had to set a foundation,” she says
“It is so much easier for me when I already know the person I’m working with
it’s not awkward; you can dive in,” she continues
admitting she was a bit nervous when he asked her
she would meet Jericho Rosales (whose career spans nearly 30 years)
who has brought pride to the Philippines by winning local and international awards
But Gutierrez also has a line of accolades
including the coveted Best Actress for Gawad Urian and the FAMAS awards for her role in Babae at Baril

When their meeting finally happened
what was supposed to be a script review over coffee became a six-hour date that went on and on
from lunch to an afternoon sushi meal and a long
talking about their roles in Lavender Fields and sharing interests and visions for the industry’s future and life
This connection was amplified by their aligned humour and adventurous spirits
and they eventually progressed to becoming good friends
their ten-year age gap kept Rosales back in pursuing Gutierrez
I said there’s no way I would date a 24-year-old,” says the then 44-year-old actor
He eventually learnt Gutierrez’s real age and decided it was worth making a move
Jericho Rosales and Janine Gutierrez continue to give each other the kind of love that lets them soar to heights and freely do the things that genuinely make them happy
Gutierrez is someone who understands how passionate he is at work and in many aspects of life
“We’re similar but also different in many ways
driving and old cars,” he says. For Gutierrez
having Rosales by her side gives her more confidence in pursuing higher goals
and he’s made me feel that there’s always someone who believes in me
who encourages me that everything’s possible,” she shares

The new couple is now dubbed one of the hottest celebrity couples in the Philippines
Both are focusing their energies on the present
I saw so many layers about his personality and how sweet
and adventurous he is,” Gutierrez shares.
Jericho Rosales and Janine Gutierrez love spending quality time together
he puts 100 per cent of himself in everything
that he’s there and attentive in the moment,” she says
“It’s great because we’re sharing new experiences
He always wants to spend time with my family
And he loves my dog!” Gutierrez muses
appreciative of her partner’s efforts to shower her with love and attention despite their busy schedules.
the two have their fair share of occasional misunderstandings—one that Rosales considers an important part of any relationship
How one couple learns to communicate and understand each other usually occurs during difficult times
That’s the whole exercise of getting to know your partner
It’s all about understanding how each one receives and gives,” he says
also emphasising the importance of respect

One key lesson that both of them learnt in their relationship is to keep things private as much as possible
whatever relationship you have is between you and the other person
You have to have a good foundation and trust because it’s a partnership,” Gutierrez says
we both consider] what’s a healthy amount of information that we want to share with the public,” Rosales explains
“I like that we’re both like that
and we don’t put pressure on ourselves [to share much of our private lives],” he adds.
it was not surprising that Jericho Rosales and Janine Gutierrez remained tight-lipped when asked about marriage and their plans
and we want to take things slowly,” Gutierrez says
stirring the conversation away from what “plans” mean to them regarding their current status
our plans include returning to Japan and planning our birthday trip
So it’s all about really exciting things,” the beautiful actor comments.

Even if the 100-episode Lavender Fields ended in January this year
their bond still grew despite being busy with their respective careers
the third instalment of the Bayaniverse film series by TBA Studios
following the success of the two earlier movies
Quezon delves into the life of Manuel L Quezon
a lawyer and a soldier who became the first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944
they were honest to admit I was not the first choice [for the role],” Rosales says
But this did not seem to be a problem for the talented actor
“It’s not the first time it happened to me
and I’m very thrilled to have been given this opportunity,” he adds
sharing that besides the interesting role and storyline
he was drawn to the character because he sees some similarities with Quezon
whether in the personage’s fashion sense or movement
and I had the same hairstyle at some point
I’m so lucky,” Rosales enthuses
Quezon is set to be distributed locally and internationally and is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP)
Rosales will star alongside Game of Thrones star Iain Glen
who will play the role of Governor General Leonard Wood
Being part of Lavender Fields and Quezon was a remarkable comeback for the 45-year-old actor
I paused things that people would expect me to normally do
like guesting on TV or doing TV shows,” Rosales says
“I got busy learning how to produce and write for a film
I was searching for stories and meeting people who could help me bring these stories to life.” But then
and because he liked the dimension of the character
“It’s something that challenged me
Gutierrez came from an illustrious clan in the Philippine entertainment industry
Ramon Christopher Gutierrez and Lotlot de Leon
The late National Artist Nora Aunor is her maternal grandmother
But despite her strong affiliation with some of the best names in show business
Gutierrez has made it a point to carve a name for herself
“It made me want to make my path even more,” she says
it was not all about following in the footsteps of the people in her family
”I just wanted to do what would make me happy and not try to surpass anyone else’s achievements or copy what anyone else did
It even made me wish not to do what they’ve already done,” the humble actor says
She started at age 21 and took around three years before she finally landed a lead role in the 2013 remake of Villa Quintana
I followed all instructions and listened to the veterans around me
I knew the value of that opportunity,” Gutierrez says

The couple also commented on the current state of the content and entertainment industry in the Philippines: “It’s a fascinating time for everyone
We have people from all walks of life creating content
The short-form videos we see on social media and other digital platforms allow everyone to create
I’m looking forward to more tasteful and original output from my fellow Filipinos,” Rosales says
Gutierrez is ecstatic that with the rise of digital platforms
Filipino films and series can now be seen alongside projects from different countries
you can see Lavender Fields beside Gyeongseong Creature and Young Sheldon,” she explains
This means our films are visible to the global audience alongside entertainment powerhouses like Korea and Hollywood
“We also have that space to show our stories from the Philippines
becoming one of the major players in the global film industry,” Gutierrez says.
while there are tremendous opportunities on the international stage
both agree that our local entertainment industry needs more government and private sector support
“There’s so many stories to tell
But we need to make it easier for people to be able to go back to the cinemas
it turns people off from watching,” the award-winning actor rallies
He adds that the schools can also be instrumental in honing future filmmakers but would also need support for it to happen
“When you go to film festivals [abroad] and see these countries that their government supports
Gutierrez wants to see more opportunities for regional filmmakers
“There’s so much talent in Visayas and Mindanao
there’s a national effort to support them
so these regional productions can get their work up and running.”
The couple also advise those who would like to follow in their footsteps
“Just really keep working on yourself and continuously learn
Any opportunity to talk to another actor or a director
She reiterates the importance of putting yourself out there to chase your dreams
“If there’s somebody you want to work with
or make yourself visible and available for possible connections.”

The trade deadline big man acquisition is returning from thumb surgery
As the Milwaukee Bucks gear up for the start of their first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers later this week, we’ve been getting updates about player availability in drips and drabs. For example, Damian Lillard was deemed a “miss” for the start of the playoffs earlier today as he works his way back from his DVT diagnosis
The other Buck sidelined by injury who has been eying a possible return for the postseason is one Jericho Sims
it seems the bench center will be reporting for duty this weekend:
Doc Rivers believes Sims will be available for the #Bucks vs
Sims has been out of commission since mid-March having sustained a torn ligament in his right thumb sustained
his departure from the rotation seemed something of a serious blow given the then ongoing suspension of Bobby Portis
a hot playoff race in the East’s middle tier
and the simple fact that Sims had seemed a useful change of stylistic pace from the backup big spot at minimum
Fully expect him to play a minimal role—if any at all—to start the series this Saturday
but don’t be surprised if he gets a little run once the coaching chess match gets fully underway against the Pacers
Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Jericho Brown bounded up the stairs and onto the stage of the Washington Room to the sound of thunderous applause
thank you so much,” Brown said with a smile
During his introduction just moments earlier
he told the crowd to greet him as though Beyoncé had entered the room
It foreshadowed the sort of affable and deeply personal style Brown would bring to his reading and discussion with more than 200 students and other members of the Trinity College community on April 17
Guests from the Hartford and broader Connecticut communities attended as well
as did partners from Central Connecticut State University who co-sponsored the program
Brown is an internationally acclaimed poet whose third book
he was awarded a MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” for his work
His visit to Trinity was part of the Allan K
held a writing workshop at the Smith House for more than two dozen students from Trinity and Central Connecticut State University—something he described as “one of the most exciting things that ever happened to me in Connecticut.” During this workshop
Brown guided students through the process of composing a “duplex,” a type of poetic structure he created that is described as part sonnet
part ghazal (originating from Arabic poetry)
The Washington Room poetry reading began with “Prayer of the Backhanded” from the 2008 collection Please
a piece recounting the relief of being struck by an empty hand rather than an instrument of corporal punishment
Brown would read works from across his anthology
with poems giving glimpses into pop culture
and growing up outside the city of Shreveport
His intonation blended hints of Cajun drawl and a breathy staccato
counterpointing the small moments of humor and beauty that exist between the most brutal of societal ills
Flowing through it all were the pains and triumphs of messy familial relations and the experience of a gay black man in America
Trinity College Associate Professor of English David Sterling Brown ’06 organized and moderated the event
and following the reading eschewed a discussion format in favor of questions and answers with the audience
whose members happily complied with an overflow of inquiries
Jericho Brown pushed the difficult goal of staying true to oneself and not caring what others think
A question of how to compartmentalize a subject’s positive and negative qualities for the sake of writing led to examining a person’s whole character for who they are
reconciling the good and bad as a difficult but necessary confrontation
A question about the poem “On Whiteness” led to a short divergence on his love for Fleetwood Mac
Jericho Brown shared how he developed a love for poetry as a child at the public library
and how the name Jericho appeared in a dream and became more than just a pen name
Dozens of attendees stayed for a reception following the event
with Brown answering questions from fans and students while signing books and posing for photos

suffering and famine following their liberation from slavery in Egypt
the conquest of Canaan by Joshua and the Israelite tribes was swift and decisive
Today, the site of Ancient Jericho contains archaeological evidence of human activity stretching back to 10,500 BC, showing dozens of phases of occupation through its stratigraphy. The site was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2023
Synopsis: After 40 years of wandering the desert
the Israelites stand at the threshold of the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership

Reflecting on contemporary culture and identity in works that combine formal experimentation and intense self-examination
Jericho Brown is a poet reflecting on contemporary culture and identity in works that combine formal experimentation and intense self-examination
He reimagines well-known poetic forms and rhythmic structures in ways that heighten a poem’s emotional charge
and racial identity from a personal perspective as well as from feelings inspired by pop culture and contemporary America
He introduces a form of his own invention—the duplex (or gutted sonnet)—that is a fusion of the traditional sonnet
with the first line of each couplet echoing the second line of the previous one
and the last line echoing the poem’s first
The circular repetition lends itself to shifts between dissonant voices or images; for example
in one duplex the speaker’s train of thought moves from a first love
shifting perspectives bring the reader face-to-face with violence inflicted on Black lives
The title poem in The Tradition begins like a pastoral lyric
Delphinium.” Brown deftly touches on the evolution of Black life in America in relation to the land—sharecropping and climate change—before pulling the reader firmly into the present moment with a lament for lives cut short at the hands of police: “John Crawford
Brown writes with frankness and vulnerability about love
He explores the complexities of his identity as a Black gay man and expresses tenderness and devotion toward his mother and other Black women
Brown illuminates the experiences of marginalized people and shows the relevance and value of formal experimentation
Jericho Brown received a BA (1998) from Dillard University, an MFA (2002) from the University of New Orleans, and a PhD (2007) from the University of Houston. He is the editor of How We Do It: Black Writers on Craft, Practice, and Skill (2023) and of The Selected Shepherd (2024)
a selected volume of poems by the late Reginald Shepherd
he has been affiliated with Emory University and is currently the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing
he served as an assistant professor of English at the University of San Diego (2007–2012)
His poems have appeared in publications such as American Poetry Review
as well as in several volumes of anthologies

Chris Jericho is reportedly set for a continued absence and may need an on-screen replacement
While Jericho is currently touring with his band Fozzy and will seemingly return to AEW eventually
Tony Khan may be looking for a replacement in the interim
and possibly even long-term since Jericho has been honest about his openness to potentially return to WWE when his contract comes up later this year
Here are six AEW stars who could replace Chris Jericho on TV
While Cope – the former Edge – has been squarely framed as a babyface throughout his time in AEW so far
it doesn’t mean that there couldn’t been a heel version yet to be revealed
Cope’s ability to re-invent himself throughout his career has been well-documented
Also carrying the mainstream recognition from his long tenure in WWE and other acting roles
Cope checks most of the same boxes for AEW that Jericho has in the past
Recently commenting that he believes he will likely retire after his current contract – reportedly October 2026 – it would be great to see all the iterations of Cope in AEW

2025 at 5:00 PM UTC·2 min readLast night’s (Apr
9) episode of AEW Dynamite featured an angle where The Learning Tree’s Chris Jericho said he’s “fucking disappointed” in his henchmen Big Bill and Bryan Keith
and it’s “best that I leave” until they change that
Jericho proceeded to leave the building at that point
viewers got the impression that Chris might be gone from AEW for a while
Some folks are even speculating or joking that he’ll make a surprise appearance at WWE’s WrestleMania 41 next weekend in Las Vegas
Sean Ross Sapp said Jericho is about to begin a tour with Fozzy
but most Wednesdays are actually open while he’s busy being a rock star
But I hate to be the bearer of bad news for those that don’t want to see him; he’s only got one Wednesday date there
They wanted to kinda send him away for that
but the only Wednesday included on the tour schedule is April 30
It remains to be seen if Jericho is gone from AEW Dynamite during the entire tour
or if he returns on one of the open Wednesdays
he’s still under contract with AEW and definitely won’t be showing up at WrestleMania
Are you disappointed about Fozzy’s tour potentially taking Chris Jericho off AEW programming for roughly a month or so

and Demery has described him as having been physically abusive to his family while at other times tender to and supportive of them
At the same time, as a young gay man, Demery struggled with his family’s and church’s rejection of homosexuality. In 2016 he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“I also felt like if they knew who and what I really was
but it was a judgment based on me understanding that this love is indeed conditional.”
In 2002 he received a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of New Orleans
However, writing about such topics while using his birth name made Demery uncomfortable, and he wished to carve out a separate identity from his father (whose name he shares). He began publishing under the name Jericho Brown. As he explained to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“I felt like I didn’t have this thing that was my own…And I wanted my poems to be mine
Seeing these poems come out with that name [Nelson Demery III] didn’t seem exactly right
It didn’t seem fair to my parents because I knew they wouldn’t want to be associated with that work.”
It becomes my responsibility as a poet to tell the truth
and as long as there’s something I know I’m keeping from the page…then I’m not facing it myself and being honest about it.”
all Black men who were killed by police: “John Crawford
In 2021 he told told the PBS American Masters: Creative Spark podcast that “their deaths
their murders seemed to me outcomes of a tradition. I sort of sit around thinking
what can I call this poem that nails it down and opens it up at the same time
What can I call this poem that lends itself to the reading of the poem without telling everybody what to read in the poem?” He also described the poem as a “door opener,” adding that “it allowed me to see the possibility of making the other poems that appeared in this book.”
The Tradition also introduced the duplex, which Brown invented by combining elements of the following forms:
Brown’s duplex poems consist of 14 lines of 7 couplets
The second line of each couplet is echoed in the first line of the next couplet
and the last line of the poem repeats the first line
So I wanted a form that in my head was black and queer and Southern.”
Brown served as editor of the books How We Do It: Black Writers on Craft, Practice, and Skill (2023) and The Selected Shepherd (2024), the latter of which is a collection of poems by Reginald Shepherd, who died in 2008. Brown has taught at several universities and in 2012 began teaching at Emory University
where he is director of the school’s creative writing program
In 2024 he was elected chancellor of the Academy of American Poets
MILWAUKEE — Before a 121-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night
Milwaukee head coach Doc Rivers delivered an injury update about backup center Jericho Sims
who had sprained his right thumb in Saturday’s win over the Indiana Pacers
“Probably decisions will have to be made.”
but Sims made his way to the floor for his pregame warmup 30 minutes after Rivers’ pregame update

Under the watchful eye of the Bucks’ coaching and training staff
Sims completed his workout and got cleared to play in Sunday’s game
dished out one assist and blocked one shot in 12 minutes
caught a pass star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo whipped to him and made an on-target dime for a corner 3
“I didn’t feel too many problems out of that,” Sims said of the play
“I caught the ball well and I made the right pass.”
While Sims was able to play through the injury and didn’t feel anything that made him want to pull himself out of the game
the 26-year-old big man admitted he was still unsure of what was going to happen next
“To be determined,” Sims said when asked if playing through Sunday’s game meant he could play through the injury
“I’m not sure which direction I’m going right now.”
the Bucks announced that Sims had undergone successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb
They expect Sims to be “sidelined for approximately the next four weeks with a likely return for the playoffs.”
The Bucks still need to qualify for the postseason
but the Play-In Tournament starts on April 15 and the NBA playoffs start on April 19
While Sims did not initially play when the Bucks acquired him at the trade deadline, he quickly became an integral part of Rivers’ rotation after the All-Star break when Bobby Portis was suspended 25 games for testing positive for Tramadol
a drug on the NBA’s banned substances list
Sims played in all 14 of the Bucks’ games out of the break and averaged 2.4 points
4.9 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 15 minutes per game
Sims came off the bench and helped the Bucks through the minutes when Brook Lopez was off the floor
He also played consistently in a lineup where Antetokounmpo and Lopez sat and was paired with Kyle Kuzma
Sims provided a different look than Lopez or Portis
he was not a floor stretcher but was an energetic screen setter and rim runner who also tried to crash the offensive glass
he was a capable switch defender and shot blocker
the Bucks were minus-2.5 points per 100 possessions with an offensive rating of 110.4 and a defensive rating of 112.8
Now that Sims is projected to miss the rest of the regular season
the Bucks will need to find a way to cover 15 minutes in their big-man rotation
The Bucks’ April 6 contest in New Orleans will be the last game of Portis’ 25-game suspension
He will be allowed to return for the team’s April 8 home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves
which means the Bucks need to cover the next 11 games
the Bucks could insert rookie forward Tyler Smith or two-way player Pete Nance into the rotation for Sims
the 20-year-old rookie forward the Bucks took with the 33rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft
has only played outside the last few minutes of the game once this season: a 27-minute performance on Feb
3 when the Bucks sat most of their regulars against Oklahoma City
Nance has appeared in only 16 games in his two NBA seasons and played 97 total minutes across those appearances with the Bucks
Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers
His most consistent playing time came earlier this season during one week with the 76ers where he played 14.3 minutes per game in four games
19 in which Nance put up eight points and six rebounds in 24 minutes
If Rivers doesn’t trust Smith or Nance to take Sims’ spot
the Bucks could turn to small-ball lineups
Rivers has told reporters that while the Bucks are starting Kuzma at small forward alongside Antetokounmpo and Lopez
Kuzma is someone Rivers sees as another big man
While Kuzma could be an option alongside Lopez
it will be interesting to see if Rivers is willing to play Kuzma next to Antetokounmpo and use the two-time MVP as a center
When the Bucks used Antetokounmpo as a center in small-ball lineups during their first extended Western Conference road trip in late January to cover for Portis
who was out mourning the loss of his grandmother
the Bucks forward was not shy in discussing the physical toll those minutes take on him
“The moment I didn’t see Bobby on the trip
We’re going to play a little bit of small ball
I’m gonna be at the five,’” Antetokounmpo said with a grimace
following the Bucks’ 125-112 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Jan
There are a lot of things that Brook and Bobby do for us every single night and not having Bobby
If playing Antetokounmpo at center each night for the next 11 games is unappealing to Rivers
the Bucks could go outside the organization and sign a free agent
they would need to put Portis on the suspended list
which would open up a roster spot and allow them to sign an outside free agent
the Bucks could sign a player to consecutive 10-day contracts or two different players to separate back-to-back 10-day contracts
which would cover them through April 6 and would get them to Portis’ return

Jericho Brown was driving home from the doctor’s office when he got the news: The MacArthur Foundation has named him a 2024 MacArthur Fellow
I was under the weather,” says the acclaimed poet and director of Emory’s Creative Writing Program
sometimes called the “genius grant,” awards $800,000 over five years to individuals exhibiting exceptional creativity in their work
nominees are selected by the program’s invited external nominators
very happy and excited to get this news,” says Brown
“I always expect good things to happen; I just don’t know what the good things are going to be
Brown is no stranger to accolades. His collection “The Tradition” (2019) won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and was a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award for Poetry
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation publicly announced this year’s honorees Oct
Winning the coveted MacArthur Fellowship places Brown
Emory’s Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing
among a slate of fellows that reads like a who’s who of the wide landscape of ingenuity
Through the decades, fellows have included choreographers, molecular biologists, legal scholars, artists and geophysicists, as well as writers including Octavia Butler, George Saunders, Ta-Nehesi Coates, Adrienne Rich and Laura Otis
Emory’s Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor Emerita of English
“Brown writes with frankness and vulnerability about love
Brown illuminates the experiences of marginalized people and shows the relevance and value of formal experimentation.”
Jericho Brown explores themes of masculinity
sexuality and racial identity from a personal perspective as well as from feelings inspired by pop culture and contemporary America.”
also won the Paterson Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle
His work has also earned a Whiting Writers Award and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation
the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard and the National Endowment for the Arts
The MacArthur selection committee praised Brown’s creation of the duplex
his original poetic form which fuses the formats of the sonnet
the ghazal and the “ironic holler of the American blues.”
“The circular repetition lends itself to shifts between dissonant voices or images,” the selection committee explains
in one duplex the speaker’s train of thought moves from a first love
shifting perspectives bring the reader face-to-face with violence inflicted on Black lives.”
poetry has always been a means for interpreting the past
understanding the present and impacting the future — and the prestige he has earned for his poetry brings a heightened sense of responsibility
requires a continuous commitment to teaching and learning
We are changed by what we learn and what we know
and those changes make us greater people,” he notes
“Even if we have to discover things on our own
even if we have to learn by making mistakes
I think it is better to learn than not to.”
“Student protests should not be a surprise to us
We can support student protests in ways that are productive and we can teach what needs to be taught during protests
I think we know by our own mission and ethics how to properly support our students even when we disagree with them
even if we perceive their thinking as somehow going astray,” he says
“I believe it is incumbent upon faculty who have senior positions
or faculty who are fortunate enough to receive awards like the MacArthur genius grant
to be confident enough in their position to reflect honestly about what is going on in the world and at our own universities,” he says
“As I thought about receiving this award and what it would mean
I thought that more than anything it could be a platform
I should understand my role at a university shifts and expands if the institution is not taking steps to wholly ensure faculty governance and student-centered response.”
“I have a lot of investment in what happens to them
and in which directions they turn,” he reflects
“I am particularly interested in what universities do and what those actions really mean for their missions.”
Brown takes seriously his role in attracting students to the university and helping create a campus where they can thrive
“When we say ‘Welcome to Emory,’ that’s who we really are
we have to pay attention to how and why we are moving away from that spirit
We have to remain focused on who we want to be
We want to be able to stand up and honestly say to other people that we have a place to be proud of.”
“My poems are ultimately about the human condition
and the human condition is a condition of loneliness
If you understand that everyone experiences that
then loneliness can indeed become a way to get to love
Poems allow for that in a way that no other art can.”
Winning what may be the nation’s foremost prize for creativity has Brown thinking about his own mentors
professors and champions through the years
“I will never know how many recommendation letters were written for me between my undergraduate career and now that have allowed me to reach this point,” he says
“and I am ever grateful to the people who wrote them.”
Learning he’d won the fellowship put him in direct contact with one of his heroes
The fellowship is unique in that its recipients have no idea they are being considered until they learn they have won
who has served as president of Prairie View A&M
the credit that matters most is her bachelor’s degree from Dillard University in New Orleans — the small liberal arts school where he earned his own undergraduate degree
before earning his MFA from the University of New Orleans and PhD from the University of Houston
“She’s always been someone whom I think of as a role model,” Brown says
it’s not that Ruth Simmons.’ And then she told me her alma mater and shared the news
Brown says he’s pleased that the award will help him care for his aging parents
One idea he’s excited about involves placing poetry in doctors’ offices
It’s something he’s been contemplating for a while now
inspired by the “Georgia Poetry in the Parks” program conceived of by Chelsea Rathburn
“You know how when you’re in an exam room and you’re waiting for that knock the doctors do before they just come in anyway?” he asks
How might that change the experience of getting a diagnosis?”
The book he’s working on now is called “Remote Control.” It focuses on many of the ways our nation is broken after the pandemic
rising threats of fascism and gun violence
you are going to pray in one way or another for your nation and your world.”
as poetry contains something of the divine
“I think it’s something that runs through us all
and just because we are not aware of it running through us doesn’t mean it doesn’t.”
Take “It’s raining cats and dogs,” which he calls appropriate for the stormy weather just preceding the announcement of his award
one that “helps us to see ourselves and know ourselves better.”
Watch Jericho Brown recite the poem "Stand" from "The Tradition."
“This is a wonderful and well-deserved recognition of all that Jericho Brown creates on the page and in the classroom
he has distinguished himself as a brilliant storyteller whose work electrifies our minds
I am thrilled for him and for everyone at Emory and beyond who can read and learn from his work.”
dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences
The transformative power of literature doesn’t end with how it impacts us as individuals
Brown routinely tells his students in Emory’s nationally renowned Creative Writing Program that everything they sit down to write has the power to shift history
He points to the impact of a novel like “Beloved,” which has inspired untold numbers of writers
“‘Beloved’ didn’t exist at all except in the head of Toni Morrison before it was published in 1987
Now his students are shifting literary history
“Our students are getting published in literary journals and magazines,” Brown says
“They are getting into the best grad schools in creative writing in this country.”
creativity’s positive feedback loop continues as the new and diverse poetic voices he finds and shares with his students help him grow as an artist
Considering the larger creative ecosystem of support and inspiration that has brought him this far
Brown calls winning the MacArthur Fellowship “an arrival moment.”
“I understand that I am indeed becoming the manifestation of other people’s dreams
who couldn’t probably themselves even imagine the life that I live,” he says
then it is also my responsibility to be there for those who come after me in the way that people were there for me.”

Dave Meltzer seems to think he should, if things were on a completely level playing field. Jericho was asked if he was open to a return to WWE during an appearance at Horror Rock and Wrestle Fest 2025
but it would depend on the situation at the time
“I would have considered a return to WWE before things changed,” Chris Jericho said
and it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to take a chance and go to AEW in the first place
I would also consider not going back there too
It just depends on what the situation is and what’s going on with me at the time.”
Meltzer believes Jericho should take a harder look at the situation
He also suggested that WWE might be a better fit for him
“I will say this much, for Jericho, unless the money is greatly different and unless there is a loyalty because he was on the ground floor of this, if I was asked, all things being equal, I’d suggest him leaving,” Meltzer wrote in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Meltzer noted that Jericho might look at the fan reception from a talent like Cody Rhodes returning “home” and benefit from it
“The reality is he’s swimming upstream in AEW with a fan base that he can work heel with and all and he can help guys but like with the Hardys
he can return to WWE and get at least a short-term gigantic reaction because there is nothing WWE fans like more than seeing a guy defect from AEW
I don’t know his contract situation as far as time
Because he was the key guy in the first year of the company and he and Kenny Omega were the real genesis of the company even happening
Which is why Khan may financially want to keep it from happening,” Meltzer wrote
AEW is also more lenient when it comes to outside entertainment projects
it’s expected that Jericho would still command a high-paying contract

Jericho will return to All Elite Wrestling
He could simply be taking some time off to allow Big Bill and Bryan Keith a chance to flourish in his absence
but the timing of his hiatus does lend to some speculation
"Of course I would consider going back there," Jericho said
"I would consider not going back there too
It just depends on what the situation is and what's going on with me

and Jon Moxley serving as the company's rugged veteran

This begs the question, how long will Jericho be off AEW TV? On Fightful’s AEW Dynamite post-show

He spent his first three-plus seasons with the Knicks
He met briefly with the media after the game:

Today, following a public hearing, Vancouver City Council approved the ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands Official Development Plan (ODP)
the ODP and Policy Statement approved by City Council in January 2024
will ensure development at ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands creates a complete
sustainable community with a range of housing options
public amenities and cultural facilities with access to new rapid transit
The ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands ODP PDF file (2.3 MB) reflects the City’s commitment to advancing Reconciliation and the goals of its UNDRIP Strategy PDF file (1.4 MB) to support economic self-determination for xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band)
While the City’s planning process does not require an ODP for ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands, the City undertook the work at the request of the land-owners, a joint venture partnership between the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh (the MST Partnership) and Canada Lands Company (CLC External website, opens in new tab)
to support the next steps in their planning and development of the site
ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iyálmexw/Jericho Lands is a generational opportunity to honour and celebrate xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)
will be embedded in the design and expression of the site
The ODP reflects the content of the Policy Statement and translates its key requirements related to permitted floor areas
public amenity and infrastructure requirements
and development phasing into a by-law format.
The Policy Statement was developed through several years of public engagement
and open houses and presentations to community and interest holders in the local neighbourhood and across the city
ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands will be a high-density
which embraces its natural setting and is welcoming and inclusive to all.
The ODP is not a rezoning. Development in ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands will now progress through a series of phased rezoning applications. Under Provincial Legislation External website, opens in new tab,
the City cannot hold public hearings for rezonings on projects that align with an ODP and are at least 50% residential
the public will continue to be notified and can comment on all rezoning applications
Each rezoning application will also continue to be considered and voted on by Council
the public will also have an opportunity to provide feedback as part of the subsequent development permit process.

rooted in the culture and leadership of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm
The approval of the ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands ODP marks an exciting milestone in our shared journey to transform the ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands into a vibrant community with thousands of new homes
Musqueam is pleased to be working with the City of Vancouver to advance reconciliation
and to provide much needed housing for the many future residents of ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Jericho Lands
This day was made possible because of the work of our past leaders of our Nations
and we honour them as we celebrate this milestone.”
“This is a historic moment for the Squamish Nation and our Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh relatives
we continue to work to contribute housing solutions for our growing region
while ensuring the long-term cultural and financial sustainability of our Nations’ communities
and worldviews with the thousands of people who will call ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands home.”
“I’m excited for this next step in MST’s leadership of the development of ʔəy̓alməxʷ/Iy̓álmexw/Jericho Lands
while also working together with the City of Vancouver and local residents to find ways to live
and 30 acres of park and public outdoor space
I look forward to what this neighbourhood will become as our families embrace this opportunity to reclaim our heritage

Sims’ best year in the association came in his second season

Some may remember Bucks late-second-round pick Hugo Besson… a Buck (well
Milwaukee is acquiring the draft rights to longtime EuroLeague stalwart Mathias Lessort
Knicks will acquire he draft rights to Hugo Besson and send out the draft rights to Mathias Lessort in the Jericho Sims deal
And here is our Van Fayaz with some info for the cap nerds:
Since the Bucks are trading away more money in the wider deal than they’re taking back (even though Sims makes a few thousand more than Wright)
this isn’t something that would hard cap them at the first apron
A straight Sims-for-Wright deal would have

since Milwaukee is sending cash to New York in this contract
