Arizona State football landed the commitment of top-rated junior college pass rusher Joshua Shanklin, he announced Thursday
Ole Miss and UCLA before deciding on the Sun Devils
The defender out of Foothill College in Los Altos, California, heads to ASU as the No. 1 rated JUCO pass rusher nationally and a top-five JUCO player at any position, according to 247 Sports
19 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles across 11 games played
Shanklin told Rivals a connection with Arizona State assistant defensive line coach Vince Amey laid the foundation for his choice
“Amey has been recruiting me and is really professional
He was thorough and kept it real with me through the process,” Shanklin said
“He told me how I could be an impact player with my speed and how he can develop me to maximize my potential
I like the fact that their defense is mainly based around the D-line and how they would use me
scheming for whatever packages they have.”
Previous time spent as a receiver in high school gives him a unique skill set at the position
The tools are tantalizing for the JUCO standout
but it’s more likely his impact will be felt in the long term rather than short
All four from last year’s EDGE rotation return, including Elijah O’Neal, who benefits from the latest NCAA JUCO ruling that Shanklin will also feel the effects of
O’Neal (4.0 sacks), Clayton Smith (team-lead 4.5), Prince Dorbah (3.0) and Justin Wodtly (0.5) combined for 12 of the team’s 24 sacks in 2024, and they like their chances to be even more productive in 2025
Shanklin will have more opportunities open up soon
as it’s expected to be the final year for each

Marxist: though not necessarily in this order
Joshua Clover was all those things--and more
the nonbiological family member whom my wife and I would trust to take care of our youngest son and his godchild Manu
The void his passing leaves behind is unspeakably painful and the following words do not pretend to say otherwise
History—including personal history—is what hurts
Joshua and I met fortuitously in the fall of 2010
when we were both Faculty Fellows in the Society for the Humanities at Cornell University
Right from the start of the weekly seminar that all fellows are expected to attend
we hit it off as we were both quickly targeted as old-school Marxists
something he would wear as a badge of honor for the remainder of the academic year
while never hiding his skepticism about my credentials for making the same claim
as for everything else having to do with political action and the theory immanent in it
Quite certain of falling short of his expectations
I always felt that he indulged me a bit and let me go on with my insufficient grasp of the true Karl Marx—the author of the Grundrisse and the three volumes of Capital
he told me he wanted to spend time in Berlin and learn German to read Marx in the original
During that shared year at Cornell which now seems to belong to another era altogether
we would spend many late evenings in our home in Ithaca
Simone and I always made sure to have a bottle of Sancerre especially set aside for him
The following year we would travel with the kidsto Sea Ranch in Northern California
for his fiftieth birthday; soon thereafter
he would come and visit us in Mexico City; not even two years ago
we would all travel back to Sea Ranch for his sixtieth birthday
every time he passed through New York City
he would try to stay the night at our place
so genuinely caring to our two sons Lucas and Manu
even though he was a thorough abolitionist as far as the bourgeois family is concerned
and unforgivingly but also endearingly critical of my many according to him misguided judgements about critical theory and philosophy
After the loss of Fredric Jameson in September of 2024
with Joshua I now feel like I have lost one of my last remaining implied readers
“Poetics of social forms,” Jameson’s chosen label for his lifelong work
likewise could serve as the overarching title for Joshua’s many books
whether his own collections of poetry (the award-winning Madonna anno domini
1989: Bob Dylan Didn’t Have This to Sing About
his theory of forms of collective action (Riot
Riot: The New Era of Uprisings and the new book he was working on as a follow-up)
This is because for Joshua there is no significant difference
between poetic or artistic forms and social or political forms
All forms are obviously social but inversely the more fundamental principle holds that society as such cannot be understood and acted upon outside a given set of forms
to be studied with the tools and methods of historical materialism
with a sarcastic warning shot across the bow to those friends and comrades whom he considered overly moralizing and voluntaristic:
Theory is immanent in struggle; often enough it must hurry to catch up to a reality that lurches ahead
A theory of the present will arise from its lived confrontations
rather than arriving at the scene laden with backdated homilies and prescriptions regarding how the war against the state and capital ought to be waged
programs we are told once worked and might now be refurbished and imposed once again on our quite distinct moment
but it is not the mood of historical materialism
This stubborn refusal to sacrifice the periodisation of actual forms of struggle and their immanent theories on the altar of the subjunctive mood or mode may well be impossible to sustain all the way to the end
Joshua himself concludes his bestselling book with an invocation of the coming forms of the commune
which would point beyond the limits of the historical and materialist analysis of the strike
as the wage-setting form of production struggles on the factory floor
as the price-setting form of circulation struggles in the marketplace
“The coming commune will develop where both production and circulation struggles have exhausted themselves,” Joshua predicts (or prescribes)
before ending with a détournement or diversionary allusion to both William Butler Yeats’ “The Second Coming” and Guy Debord’s sixth and last film
In Girum imus nocte et consumimur igni: “Things fall apart
We turn round and round in the night and are consumed by fire.”
Joshua had been working steadily on an expansion of his materialist theorization of forms of collective action to add the blockade and the encampment to the repertoire of riot and strike
tells me that Verso had wisely offered a contract for this new book
the Rev (based on a few lines from Aimé Césaire’s 1955 Discours sur le colonialisme
according to which the two problems in question concern colonialism and capitalism
the extreme limits of which we are currently confronting in the guise of the climate collapse and the end of capitalist growth)
Refusing once again to accept the misguided opposition between making a political intervention and the work of theory
Joshua continues to ask how forms of struggle change and
based on a historical and material grasp of their internal functioning in concrete practice
where the urgent practical matters no longer hover only around production and circulation but furthermore expand into the realms of reproduction and care
he goes so far as to offer “value theory for the end of the world” as the name for his overall project that began with Riot
that Marxist thought (and value theory in particular)
far from being divorced from daily political practice
both learns from these practices and makes them newly thinkable
Theory helps think how to intervene or it is nothing.”
while turning round and round in the night trying to make sense of this senseless loss
I reread the last lines of your acknowledgements in the riot book
when you furtively quote Marx’s letter from May 1843 to his friend and fellow Young Hegelian Arnold Ruge
and I could not help but feel as if you were reaching out to all of us today: “And when everything is at an end give me your hand so that we may begin again from the beginning.”
Joshua Vides has once again reengineered the art world’s expectations, pulling his immersive Check Engine Light exhibition into New York City with an unapologetically bold presence
Nestled inside Morton Street Partners’ West Village space
the show transforms the gallery into a full-throttle artistic workshop—equal parts auto garage
Following the buzz of its Los Angeles debut
the NYC edition elevates the experience with new installations
and programming that blurs the line between art and lifestyle
Presented in collaboration with Cart Dept and No More Rulers
Check Engine Light is less of a traditional gallery show and more of a staged universe—one drenched in Vides’ signature black-and-white sketch aesthetic
Visitors walk into what feels like a mechanic’s bay sketched directly from a surreal storyboard
and a head-turning stretch limousine that steals the spotlight at the center of the room
Joshua Vides has carved out a distinct visual language over the past decade
hand-drawn environments that pull influence from everyday objects and transform them into something entirely unexpected
What began as line-drawing sneaker customs has evolved into large-scale experiential installations for brands like Fendi
Vides continues to explore the cultural intersections of form
and fantasy—this time through the lens of car culture and working-class nostalgia
The space is packed with automotive references: acrylic toolkits
and meticulously mocked-up ephemera that feel pulled from an alternate-reality pit stop
The cartoonish renderings challenge perceptions of utility
spinning familiar shop tools and auto parts into conceptual art pieces that straddle parody and reverence
The New York iteration of Check Engine Light builds on the foundational ideas presented in LA but takes things a step further with a tighter curatorial narrative and more immersive staging
The gallery layout in Morton Street Partners offers less room to roam and more space to focus
creating an intimacy that makes each object feel precious—even if it’s shaped like a lug wrench or gas canister
Anchoring the installation is a full-sized limousine
redesigned entirely in Vides’ high-contrast motif
and ghostlike—at once familiar and strange
This centerpiece underscores the themes of luxury
a visual metaphor cruising straight through Vides’ concept of aspiration and craftsmanship
Check Engine Light is built to be a multi-sensory experience
and panel discussions that expand the scope of the show beyond static works
One highlight includes a live conversation between Vides and legendary NYC artist Eric Haze
moderated by cultural connector Set Free—offering an intergenerational dialogue that ties graffiti
There’s also a palpable sense of performance embedded into the show’s mechanics
Watching Vides paint live or seeing fans interact with the installation brings a sense of immediacy and community to the space
It becomes more than just an art show—it’s a hangout
a clubhouse for creatives and collectors alike
Joshua Vides has long occupied the middle ground between fine art
Check Engine Light amplifies this balance by treating everyday items—rims
Whether it’s a fully fabricated wall-mounted toolkit or a painted cone standing guard in a corner
The collaboration with Cart Dept and No More Rulers further extends this layered approach
Both partners are rooted in contemporary culture and aim to make art accessible without stripping it of its impact
This ethos plays out in the show’s merch and printed matter—objects you can take home
but that still feel connected to the deeper creative mission behind the exhibit
Check Engine Light is now open at Morton Street Partners in New York City and will remain on view through May 6
or just someone with an appreciation for striking visuals
this exhibition delivers a rare hybrid of immersive storytelling and clever craftsmanship
It captures the pulse of modern art while tipping its hat to analog Americana and the DIY spirit that fuels it

Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023 after four years of marriage
The actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split
they’ve been battling it out in court over a number of issues—namely

“I consistently prioritize Juno’s best interests and value Josh’s input as her father
I have responded to Josh’s questions on this issue and remained available to meet and confer regarding the school selection for Juno

despite my outreach and good faith efforts
Josh ultimately opposed Juno’s enrollment at [the school]
I have made repeated efforts to coordinate a summer and fall custodial schedule with Josh to accommodate both of our work schedules while prioritizing consistency and frequent contact with both parents for Juno,” she continued
and Jackson has yet to respond to Turner-Smith’s allegations in court
Queen & Slim actress Jodie Turner-Smith is now officially divorced from her former partner Joshua Jackson. The two have been trying to get on the same page about how to split amicably since the actress filed for divorce in October 2023 after four years of marriage
The former couple has agreed to the terms of their divorce regarding custody and child support
A mediator will put together a schedule for the 50-50 custody of their daughter
and the Dawson’s Creek alum will pay $2,787 in monthly child support
Turner-Smith won’t get monthly spousal support but will get a lump sum payment
Both actors are still at odds about one area: their daughter Juno Rose Diana Jackson’s education
The former cannot agree on where the four-year-old will attend school
According to a declaration filed by Turner
she and the actor had a full-day mediation in May 2024 to resolve their temporary custody issues for their child’s 2024-2025 school year
The hearing led to the two entering “into a Stipulation and Order to resolve the issue of selection of Juno’s school,” which Turner-Smith said authorized her “to make the final decision.”
the actress says that Jackson is “refusing to adhere to the terms of the Stipulation and Order and is depriving me of the right to select the school,” in the court document
Jackson’s reasons for pushing back relate to concerns about the drive time for the school selected by Turner-Smith.
Turner-Smith is requesting $75,000 in attorney fees over the school disagreement
The former couple secretly got hitched in August 2019 and gave birth to Juno in April 2020
Although the actress filed for divorce in October 2023
The actress never gave any precise reasons for the split-up but alluded to a need to be true to herself
Co-parenting hasn’t been a walk in the park for the two as they navigate their split
“It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone because you’re used to being with your child all the time,” Turner-Smith said in her 2024 GLAMOUR Woman of the Year cover story
Everyone’s trying to figure it out.”
and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives
it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent.”

When a man in the public eye speaks candidly about fatherhood and co-parenting after divorce
you'd think we'd celebrate this vulnerability
They share 50-50 custody of their five-year-old
and deeply personal — yet have somehow managed to stir controversy
Watch: Dr Golly on how parenting changes the brain
Jackson reflected on his experience of growing up without a present father and how that shaped his determination to be different
and give you all the tools you need in life
it is not lost on me that I am getting an opportunity to experience a father's love in a way that I never experienced it," he said
"I am surprised at how much of the experience of fatherhood is self-healing."
he emphasised his unwavering commitment to his daughter through divorce and co-parenting
"If I ever did anything to estrange my daughter from myself
I actually can't conceive of it because I can't even
I don't even want to think of the pain that that would be
I think this generation of dads is understanding
It's the great and beautiful purpose of my life
"My father's response to difficulty was to run away
I've had the opportunity to give my daughter the opposite experience."
He even expressed empathy for his late father
"I find myself for the first time with a great deal of sympathy for him
Because the pain that he must have lived with
to have four children in the world and essentially no relationship with any of them," he added
Some questioned why Jackson's commitment to co-parenting deserved praise: "It's a sad day when this is seen as an admirable thing
Others rolled their eyes at the very notion: "Sooo this generation of men understands being a father means...being a father
And there were those who seemed to misinterpret his words entirely: "Why is this man talking like taking care of his own child like it's an admirable sacrifice that he's willing to do?"
Are we even listening to the same interview
Jackson never once framed his parenting as a sacrifice
Quite the opposite — he called it "the great and beautiful purpose of my life." He wasn't asking for a medal for meeting basic parental responsibilities
He was sharing his journey of breaking generational patterns of absent fatherhood
This isn't about lowering the bar for fathers
It's about acknowledging that we're in a transitional period where men are redefining what fatherhood means
This is the first generation where equal parenting is widely expected and normalised
The shift from "provider" to "fully engaged parent" represents genuine social progress
Parenting at times can be hard for all of us
Co-parenting after divorce can be even harder
to acknowledge that difficulty while still fully embracing the responsibility
What struck me most about the criticism was how it seemed designed to shut down vulnerability
The moment a man — particularly a famous one — opens up about emotional growth through parenting
we're quick to dismiss it as performative or unworthy of mention
But as others wisely pointed out: "He said this in direct comparison to his own father
who abandoned him and his siblings back in the 80s without a second thought after his parents' marriage broke up."
my feedback to anyone criticising men for being vulnerable
or for sharing their experiences with co-parenting (when they are present and doing the work)
We're in the process of redefining masculinity for the men in our lives
If we're serious about breaking down harmful masculine stereotypes
And that's exactly what Joshua Jackson offered
When a man speaks openly about navigating the emotional complexities of fatherhood — especially in the wake of divorce and his own childhood wounds — that's not something to mock
because it creates space for other men to do the same
For every father struggling to find his footing in co-parenting
for every man working to heal his own childhood wounds while raising children
for every boy learning what healthy masculinity looks like — these conversations matter
So perhaps instead of the eye-rolls and snarky comments

Actors Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson have met a resolve involving their divorce
The ex-spouses, who married in 2019 and separated in 2023, utilized a mediator to create a temporary split custody schedule for their 4-year-old daughter, Juno. According to People
Turner-Smith and Jackson have also hammered out details regarding the “Doctor Odyssey” star paying $2,787 in child support and a large lump sum for spousal support
While the exes have been amicable over the care of their daughter
they haven’t yet reached an agreement over where Juno will be attending school
after Turner-Smith and Jackson attended a “full-day mediation” with a judge last May where Juno’s “temporary custody issues” were agreed upon
the former spouses had gotten “into a Stipulation and Order to resolve the issue of selection of Juno’s school.”
The “Queen & Slim” actress wrote that she has “clear authority to make the school selection in Juno’s best interest,” while her ex-husband is “refusing to adhere to the terms of the Stipulation and Order and is depriving me of the right to select the school.”
Following “consistent efforts to meet and confer with Josh in good faith,” Turner-Smith alleged that her ex-husband “never intended to honor” her school selection
The actress now seeks $75,000 in attorney fees
Last December, Turner Smith claimed that Jackson failed to provide financial security for her and their daughter, although “he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother.”

Anthony Joshua has teased some inside information on the heavyweight scene
The big-punching Brit is currently recovering from injuries and preparing for shoulder surgery before mounting a comeback
following a loss to Daniel Dubois in September of last year
‘AJ,’ as one of the biggest stars in the sport
one of which has been named as American Jarrell Miller
The pair have history dating back to 2019 when they were scheduled to fight but saw it canned when Miller tested positive for various banned substances
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently said that the trash-talking Brooklyn native would be a potential opponent for Joshua should he come through Fabio Wardley
with the promotion stating Miller was out due to an injury suffered during training camp
In an interview with IFL TV
“And how come… I know why Fabio and Miller didn’t happen
When it was put to him that it was released that Miller had an injury
Joshua smiled and said that he had ‘the low down.’
I’ll give people the low down.”
Miller is yet to speak out on the cancellation or the injury
Meanwhile, Wardley will now face New Zealand’s Justis Huni on the same date at the same venue – Ipswich Town’s Portman Road Stadium.

Joshua Erkman doesn’t waste his time making a statement in “A Desert” as a man walks around an abandoned multiplex that’s seen better days
with the promise of coming attractions acting as something of a mirage
As the drifter who comes to be known as Renny (Zachary Ray Sherman) into a seat in the theater whereas the rows are shrouded in plastic
the time to watch movies seems to have come and gone when what was once a cathedral to cinema now simply looks like sitting in the middle of nowhere
but the striking introduction marks the start of the director shaking the dust off the medium with a twisty noir
making his feature debut far more slippery to describe
though it primarily concerns a photographer named Alex (Kai Lennox)
who is drawn towards shooting the people and places that society has left behind
perhaps feeling a little that way himself when it seems like he’s gotten less professional traction of late
Going off the grid where even his wife Sam (Sarah Lind) only has the faintest idea of where he is
he pokes around a former nuclear test site and a pet cemetery for pictures and wonders whether he’s stumbled into trouble or a potential goldmine upon meeting Renny and Susie Q (Ashley Smith)
Audiences will surely know better than the photographer does that a drunken night with strangers in a strange place surely won’t lead to anywhere good
but “A Desert” takes a particularly intriguing turn when Sam enlists a private eye (David Yow) to learn her husband’s whereabouts when she hears from him less and less
Alex’s wife isn’t the only one unnerved by where Joshua’s trail ultimately leads in the simmering thriller where Erkman is apt to pull the rug out any time one feels a little too comfortable with assuming where it’s going and as Alex’s trip to the desert appears more and more as if he was looking to get lost
the filmmaker asks what people come to the movies for
whether it’s escapism or to feel understood
to be surprised or to feel superior to those on screen
to indulge in forbidden fantasies or the delayed gratification of recoiling from them
The result is altogether absorbing if intentionally uneasy when besides playing with expectations
it questions the motives of both the filmmaker and the audience in tantalizing ways
After first putting a pit in the stomachs of the crowds at Tribeca last summer
“A Desert” is now arriving in theaters and Erkman graciously took the time to talk about how he crafted such an engrossing excursion
getting the unsettling vibe of the film just right in a place where the near-silence has a distinct sound and taking delight with how this picture – and others – developed
How did this come about
I had this idea for a long time of wanting to do a movie where the main character was this photographer
I have a background in photography and I’ve just been obsessed with it since I was in high school when I got my first camera
But I didn’t necessarily know what the story was going to be and as a jumping-off point to discover what the script would be about
I started going out and making what this character’s fictional body of photographic work would be
I drove around and took a lot of photographs and basically made this collection that is the book that is featured in the movie
I would find places — some I was familiar with
but some were new discoveries and they would spark ideas where I would go
this would be a great location for the movie
The pet cemetery is a perfect example of just driving around and I saw the sign
I walked around this property that had these trailers and there’s people living nearby and there’s a house next door that was also an auto towing [lot] and it’s the desert
so you never quite know what people are really up to
So I thought what if [this character] goes to this pet cemetery
And the pet cemetery is obviously very evocative of the genre movies
Then as I was doing this I was encountering all these different old
it just got me thinking about our relationship to movies and the state of movies
so it started to take on a little bit more of [a feel] what if this is a genre movie that’s also in conversation very deliberately and explicitly about movies
You have to be quite careful with spoilers with this film
but there is a structure that emerges around three characters all of a certain age with the photographer
How’d this take shape around those particular characters
Zachary [Ray Sherman]’s character Rennie more embodies the chaos of the world
We don’t really know what his motivations are and we don’t know really what he’s up to
He just exists and comes and goes [where it feels like] these are the bad things that can happen and [is indicative of] this unforgiving world we might live in
and there’s a structural element that most of the film is like hinged on that I don’t want to necessarily give away from a film that people are familiar with
but that private investigator character is very much like that private investigator character in that movie
I’ve been a fan of David [Yow] as a musician
but also as an actor and I really [thought] he would make such a great PI character in a movie and you could tell he’s seen some stuff in his time
I also liked that our photographer is a middle-aged guy and he’s you know had some success as a younger man
but now he’s coming to terms with what his life is like now as an artist
It was interesting to learn after I had seen the film that you had done an installation work earlier on in your career
with one piece actually centered on a desert
Did that inform how you could immerse people in a place
particularly the score is such a strong part of this
a good friend and insanely talented musician
and I knew that all of the music this character listened to on his car stereo as he was driving around [could] be a specific type of improvisational jazz
it’d be really cool if we had all of these like jazz tracks [before filming]” and he [said]
“Let’s just record it like they would have recorded it
We’ll do improv and record it on two-inch tape and we’ll do it in my studio.” So he along with the rest of his band cut this record over the course of a couple of days and mixed all of that a couple of months before we actually started shooting and I was able to share that with the actors
who’s the one that’s listening to this music doing these driving scenes
we had it on set and we would play the music to try to add any extra color we can while we’re filming to get them in the headspace and capture the rhythm
That was really cool because then everybody knew what it was going to be
but also you could react to it in a different way so that helped inform some of the pacing in the film
It’s so cool to learn that you were able to give the actors both music and photos and I imagine a remote shoot gives a certain feeling on set as well
What was it like to take everyone out there
Some of them — like our cinematographer lived out in the high desert —so they were familiar with some of the places already and if you live in Los Angeles
it’s like a weekend spot sometimes if you’re going out to Joshua Tree
But we were out on some of the other fringes where maybe you don’t want to spend your weekend there and if you are spending your weekend there
or the military base or these more exotic locations all have a weird energy and then there’s weird people out there
but that’s also what we’re trying to capture and I wanted it to feel off
I wanted it to feel uncomfortable and mysterious
so you have to go to where it’s at and I think the essence of some of those places does come through in the movie
It does
Was there anything that happened that you may not have anticipated but took this in a direction you didn’t expect
The movie has some wild things that happen in it and I think people would maybe be a little surprised that very little has changed from what the script to what is on the screen
but there were a couple of really cool surprises
One moment in particular was a a party scene in the motel and talking about the character of the photographer
and [I thought] what if he’s taking photos
He’s probably got a little point-and-shoot film camera with him because he’s got this other big camera and it’s very cumbersome
so he’d probably have a smaller camera
And I gave a camera to Kai and he shot all these photographs while we were filming our takes of the scene
Kai is a little bit of a photographer in his own right
but I really taken by how strong the images he’s captured in the moment were
I just assumed it would all turn out like trash
but then we developed the film and [I thought]
“These are amazing.” So those [pictures in the film] are from that roll of film that he was actually shooting and that was a very exciting moment where I couldn’t believe this stuff turned out this good
What’s it like to have a feature on your hands and getting it out into the world
The movie’s had a great festival run that’s been super rewarding and to go around the world and have people respond to the movie
you work on something for a long time before it ends up you actually shoot it and in the moment of filming it
“We’re making the thing that I’ve been seeing for the last couple of years in my head — specific frames or images — and this is exactly it,” and that’s gratifying
We’ll see what people think.” There’s been positive response to it
There’s been negative response to it and that’s all great
What’s been most exciting for me to hear is that people are on the wavelength of the movie and I’ve heard that it’s sticking with them a little bit
That’s all I could ever ask for is it lingering with you because I think so much of what we see is pretty disposable
Nobody’s trying to make anything disposable
but sometimes some of the safe choices that are made result in that
so to hear that people it’s resonating with certain people is super cool

Support NYU Law
You’ve done some political and legislative work in your career so far
How has that background informed your legal education
I originally wanted to work in city planning when I was younger
I guess I had this conception that if I understood “cities” and infrastructure that I would be able to give back to Detroit
I’ve heard awful things about it all my life
but it’s truly such an awesome and beautiful city.
that initial intention and converging interests in trying to do right by people and the planet led me to work for the Detroit City Planning Commission
Pennsylvania House Representative—now US Congresswoman!—Summer Lee
And while that was all extremely satisfying work in its own right
I felt that a lot of the work I was interested in could be more effectively approached with a more substantial legal background
I was oftentimes doing work with lawyers or working closely with them doing legal review
and I realized I wanted to operate at that level
I could be a lot more useful to my loved ones and the world generally
I would be in a position to help instead of wishing I could help.
after working in the public sector for so long
I wanted to learn more about how the private sector functions and get a more holistic picture of infrastructure at large—and the people and processes behind the scenes
You’ve been the development co-chair of the Social Enterprise & Startup Law (SESL) Group
Me and my bestie—big shoutout to Jacob Wecht ’25—were development co-chairs
We put on a lot of events I really personally enjoyed and were fortunate to work with Emily Wazlak
director of the NYU Law Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Program
We even made it to the pitch competition finals!.
It’s always such a beautiful and inspiring thing to talk to people about SESL and watch their minds open up to the different forms legal practice can take
I also really love seeing how much NYU Law supports student entrepreneurship and startups
and the access to mentorship and resources has been the impetus of a great many successful companies
I love seeing the fire build up in people when they go from thinking
“I could never possibly do this” to “Wait a minute
maybe I could do this” to the first thrust of actually trying something
The Grunin Center funds an SESL trip every year
where we learned about Ireland’s unique infrastructure and incentives for facilitating startups within Ireland and positioning for attracting foreign businesses and operating as the intermediary for a lot of EU businesses
It was a formative legal and personal experience and I carry those friendships
Which Law School class or experience has had the biggest impact on you
Working with the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship and the International Transactions Clinic, by far! Through the Grunin Center and the tutelage of Professor Deborah Burand
I’ve found the perfect field for my character and interests — social entrepreneurship
I’ve been blessed with opportunities to gain a bevy of experience doing substantial impact work within that field and exposure to a broad spectrum of modalities and frameworks demonstrating the myriad fashions in which social enterprises can operate.
I did an internship with Global Communities
an international development organization)
and I worked in the International Transactions Clinic
I was able to witness my ideals put into practice and find praxis embodying the idea that humanitarianism is logical and that it can be solvent
And that when we approach deals holistically and make space for our humanity
there is an infinite horizon of possibilities of what we can accomplish.
Societal ills—besides their direct and indirect tragedies—also seem horribly inefficient to me
If we can create systems and representations that represent and respond to our reality more accurately—if we can communicate and see clearly how much our interests converge—we could live more happily
Working on deals served as proof of concept of that mindset and was sublimely actualizing
I feel confident that it’s possible to do the work I want to do and to be the kind of practitioner I want to be because of the work I did through Professor Burand
What do you most like to do outside of class
What’s your favorite way to spend a day in New York City
I love the sun and the summer; I love working out and I love dancing; I love music
any kind of music; I love drawing and painting; I love games and performances
I love that New York City always has some once-in-a-lifetime party or fanfare or something or other going on
I love that one of your friends you haven’t seen in a while always happens to be coming for a visit
I love that you can travel through the whole city on the subway with ease
There’s always somewhere to go to have a good time
It feels bittersweetly arduous to come up with a satisfying response—there’s so many people to see and only so many hours in a day
So I’ll say an ideal day is one I don’t take for granted
and go to sleep excited for tomorrow.

Joshua revealed he needs surgery for his elbow injury and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks as he recovers:
I'm trying to get my body right," he said
a little surgery on my elbow … sometime in May
which will see me out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks
Joshua is 28-4 in his career with 25 knockouts
but he hasn't fought since his loss to Daniel Dubois in September
Dubois' win came via a shocking fifth-round knockout after controlling much of the fight in the early going at Wembley Stadium
The loss prevented Joshua from becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion
It also cut short his momentum after he defeated Francis Ngannou in a fight in March 2024
Oleksandr Usyk and Dubois are scheduled to face each other in July at Wembley Stadium for the opportunity to become undisputed heavyweight champion
"I would like to see the fight happen but it's up to the guys
But Joshua will need to get healthy before any such fight happens
Joshua passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack
He left behind friends that he continued to keep in contact with throughout his life
graduating from Eagle's Landing High School
He was married in 1995 in Georgia and was the proud father of his only child
Joshua was married a second time which ended in divorce; however
they remained best friends until his death
He was successful and opened his own car dealership in Marietta
He eventually moved to Florida where his father lived to be close to him during his fight with cancer
After his father's death he remained in Florida
Joshua remained in contact with his friends in Georgia and often went to visit
What was solid in his life was his great love for his mother whom he called almost every day without fail no matter where he was
trips and vacations together and also other family members
who encouraged Joshua through his highs and lows
Joshua found true happiness in his later years and was living it until his death.
He will be greatly missed; our hearts are broken
A special thanks to Robyn in Florida and Gabriella in Georgia for your support in this difficult time.
Shandy DeStefano and Tery Sandy and many cousins who loved him very much
Joshua was proceeded in death by his Grandparents Jose and Elizabeth Pacheco and Father Andrew S Destefano and grandfather Lewis A Destefano
His final resting place will be in in Chacon
"She's lovely," Jackson added of his former costar
Oleksandr Usyk will face Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight championship this summer, and Anthony Joshua knows the man who should get the winner
Usyk beat Dubois back in 2023 before becoming undisputed by handing Tyson Fury his first loss. In order to honour the contractual rematch clause, he dropped the IBF belt, which was picked up by Dubois and defended by knocking Joshua out inside 5 rounds. They will now rematch on July 19 at Wembley Stadium.
Speaking to Box Nation, ‘AJ’ – who has also lost to Usyk twice – was asked if he was targetting a shot against the winner of the rematch but said Joseph Parker is more deserving
“Do you want me to be completely honest with you
Parker deserves it more than me right now.”
Former WBO Champion Parker was days away from facing Dubois for the IBF belt in February before the champion pulled out with illness
He was then called as Usyk’s mandatory
so missed out on both men as they struck a deal for their undisputed rematch
The WBO is first in the rotation of mandatory challengers, so Parker will indeed get his shot
with Usyk making it clear that he has one fight left after his and he may vacate the belts
he could move straight into a defence against Parker
If he chooses a bigger name like Joshua or Tyson Fury
Parker could fight for the vacant belt against another top contender
Joshua's life was a tapestry woven with laughter
and an undeniable zest for beauty in both people and the world around him
Joshua embodied a passion for culinary arts that extended beyond mere food preparation
He had a gift for orchestrating flavors and transforming simple ingredients into exquisite feasts
His love for cooking was paralleled only by his commitment to presenting it beautifully
ensuring that every meal was an experience meant to be savored
His laughter had the power to lighten the heaviest of hearts
made him a captivating presence in any room he entered
where he honed his inherent talents in hair and makeup
His creative abilities flourished as he embraced the art of enhancing beauty
effectively demonstrating the depth of his caring nature for all those who sought his touch
sharing in their stories and offering unwavering support through the trials of life
Joshua's passions extended well beyond his professional pursuits
He thrived in the vibrant atmosphere of concerts
and cherished the joy of gathering with friends and loved ones
Each memory created with those he adored is a testament to the deep connections he nurtured throughout his life
The legacy of love continues with his cherished grandmother
as well as a multitude of aunts and uncles—Deborah Underwood
The hearts of countless cousins and friends will forever hold his memory dear
a reminder of the light he brought into their lives
Joshua joins in eternal rest his grandfather
A visitation in honor of Joshua will be held on February 15
from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Wells Funeral Home in Canton
followed by a graveside service at Bethel Community Cemetery at 1:00 PM
As we celebrate the vivid life of Joshua Moore
we are reminded of the indelible mark he has left on each of us—a mark of beauty
and laughter that will echo in our hearts forever
Moore has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton
