The program covers topics such as supervisor training
This interactive program is taught by in-house experts and outside consultants
It also includes tours and hands-on exercises to introduce employees to all departments of the city

38-year-old Reginald Scott Brown of Kannapolis has been arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers on a felony count of larceny of a motor vehicle
Events leading to Brown’s arrest began on March 10 when Iredell County Deputies responded to a reported vehicle theft at a residence on the East Memorial Highway in Harmony
Deputies spoke with the homeowner who said their vehicle had been stolen from the driveway while they were out of town
a Detective learned that the stolen vehicle had been found
in the parking lot at a Mocksville business
The vehicle had been towed and was stored at a local wrecker service’s facility
Detectives searched the vehicle for any evidence left behind by the suspect
Evidence was recovered that identified Brown as the suspect
A warrant was issued and Brown was quickly located and taken into custody
He was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond
Brown also has an appearance scheduled on May 7 on felony counts of breaking & entering a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Kannapolis Police say a man who was out on bond for a domestic assault killed his wife and her 19-year-old daughter outside the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services building Wednesday morning and then got into a chase with law enforcement all the way into Rowan County
where police say the man shot and killed himself
police got a 911 call from someone saying accusing 51-year-old Rafael Lopez of firing shots in the parking lot of the building that houses DSS and Transportation Services for the county
When police got to the public services building
45-year-old Maria Julian-Pichardo and her daughter
“I was more shocked than anything because typically this is a quiet area and everybody’s friendly so to hear that type of violence to take place
the victim’s car was riddled with bullet holes
Police say at least one of the women who was killed was shot while they were inside the car
Workers at other businesses still can’t wrap their minds around what happened
“It was a little crazy to hear early this morning
it’s very well patrolled,” said a worker who did not want to be identified
Investigators say an on-duty Cabarrus County deputy heard the shots and spotted Lopez driving away
Police say the deputy chased Lopez’s car for about twenty miles
The chase ended when police say Lopez shot and killed himself on Lower Palmer Road in Rockwell

“People have been calling to check to make sure we’re ok,” said Rice
He’s saddened by what happened but comforted that the community is stepping in to help one another by checking in on their neighbors
“You really don’t know how close or how much you mean to somebody until tragedy happens,” said Rice

(WBTV) - A house connected to a car shop in Kannapolis burst into flames Wednesday night
prompting a response from several area fire departments
The blaze broke out around 8:30 p.m. along West 9th Street at the house attached to Weaver’s Complete Auto Repair and Body Shop
When Kannapolis firefighters first arrived
They went inside but conditions deteriorated and more help was called for
The Kannapolis Fire Department said the house began to show “signs of collapse” and so a “Code Red” was called
which ordered firefighters to come out from inside the home
firefighters worked from outside to contain the fire and protect nearby houses
Officials said one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
Landis and Salisbury fire departments also responded to the blaze
The cause of the fire was under investigation early Thursday morning
The fire broke out on the very outer edge of Rowan County

A Cabarrus County sheriff’s deputy who was parked outside the building heard gunshots and saw the shooter flee in a vehicle

Kannapolis police said Edgar Maddison Welch pulled a gun on officers when they tried to arrest him on Saturday
Welch had been riding in a GMC Yukon when officers recognized the vehicle
After pulling the Yukon over on North Cannon Boulevard
police found Welch – who had a warrant for his arrest – in the passenger seat
Police said one of three officers at the scene opened the passenger door to arrest Welch
Welch pulled a gun out of his jacket and pointed it at the officer
That officer and another ordered Welch to drop the gun
Police said he did not listen and the two officers shot him
Medical aid was immediately given and Welch was taken to Atrium Cabarrus before he was moved to Atrium CMC in Charlotte
The driver of the Yukon and a backseat passenger were also not hurt
The two officers who shot Welch were placed on administrative leave
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case
Police said the warrant for Welch’s arrest was for a felony probation violation
Welch made national headlines in December 2016 after he fired shots inside a Washington
pizza parlor that he believed was hiding a child sex ring that was tied to Hillary Clinton and other Democratic leaders
He later apologized in a letter and called his actions “foolish and reckless.” He pled guilty to two charges related to the incident in March 2017

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – One person suffered minor injuries and six people have been displaced following a large house fire in Kannapolis
The Kannapolis Fire Department responded to the late Wednesday night fire at a commercial automotive garage attached to a two-story home along West 9th Street
firefighters saw smoke coming from the garage
though it was soon determined that the fire started from within the house
Fire crews entered the home to fight the flames and search for any potential victims
With the threat of collapse becoming more apparent
the incident commander declared a “Code Red,” pulling firefighters from inside the structure for their safety
crews continued to battle the blaze from the outside
working to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes
The Kannapolis Fire Department was supported by firefighters from Atwell
and Odell Fire Departments assisted with coverage
Other agencies on the scene included Kannapolis Police
One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment
Six people have been displaced by the fire

The first shooting happened around 8:30 a.m
at the office on South Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis
Kannapolis police found both victims dead and a Cabarrus County deputy was in pursuit of the suspect
Kannapolis police officers joined in the chase
and when the suspect crossed into Rowan County
The chase ended about 20 miles away when the suspect pulled over on Lower Palmer Road in Rockwell and shot himself
Police said the situation appeared to have been domestic and the people involved knew each other
No Department of Social Services employees were hurt in the shooting
Officials have not yet released the names of the two victims nor the suspect
They also said the South Cannon Boulevard office will be closed the rest of the day
but services will stay available at the office on Milestone Avenue

He asked her to “tryout” the position of clerk and she never looked back
There had been one clerk prior to Bridgette assuming the position
there were few city employees and Bridgette wore many hats including finance
entering water and sewer receipts and maintaining all the City Council
and Planning and Zoning meeting agendas and minutes
Three decades later Bridgette attends every City Council meeting
preparing the agendas and recording the minutes
She coordinates calendars for City Council members
fields calls from the public and much more
tracks City Council resolutions and signing of contracts and official documents
“Bridgette has been an integral part of Kannapolis for 37 years
She has touched nearly every important document we have generated as a City since our incorporation in 1984
Bridgette has recorded the minutes of 1,700 council meetings and witnessed many historical moments and milestones as we evolved as City
She will be greatly missed but her retirement is much deserved
and we wish her the very best in this new chapter in her life,” Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg commented
She is a native of Kannapolis and a graduate of A.L
She has earned the prestigious designation of Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk and has served on the board of the N.C
She is married to Larry and looks forward to traveling with him in their retirement
Bridgette was honored for her years of service at the Kannapolis City Council meeting with a proclamation of thanks and appreciation as well as a resolution honoring her service by the N.C

(WBTV) - Amazon is bringing five new facilities to North Carolina
including one that just opened in Cabarrus County this past week
The online marketplace opened a new same-day delivery facility in Kannapolis on Jan
and has plans to open four other facilities across the state
Amazon said the Kannapolis site will allow the retail giant to “fulfill
and deliver orders all from one site – making the entire process of delivering customer packages even faster.”
The new facility in Kannapolis will be across from Amazon’s existing one at the corner of Davidson Highway and Kannapolis Parkway
The building is 200,000 square feet in size and created about 100 new jobs
“We are pleased that Amazon has chosen to open a second location in Kannapolis,” Mayor Darrell Hinnant in a news release
“Their growing presence in our city is another sign that we are a top location for corporations in the United States
We look forward to our continued positive relationship with Amazon.”
The four future locations will be in Jacksonville
which is where delivery partners pick up orders and take them to customers’ addresses
The Jacksonville building will be the biggest at approximately 100,000 square feet

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person is injured after an officer-involved shooting during a traffic stop
according to the Kannapolis Police Department
officers conducted a traffic stop near the Shoe Show store at 251 North Cannon Blvd
Officials said they believed one of the occupants was wanted for outstanding warrants
but police said an occupant inside the vehicle was injured by gunfire and taken to a local hospital
The officers and other occupants were not injured
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave and the NC SBI has been requested to investigate the shooting

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Kannapolis Police are providing a timeline on what led up to a man being shot and killed by officers
a KPD officer was patrolling North Cannon Boulevard when he spotted a gray 2001 GMC Yukon
He recognized it as a vehicle driven by a person he had previously arrested and who currently had an outstanding warrant
the officer recognized the front-seat passenger as the person with the outstanding warrant
The first officer went to the passenger side of the SUV and opened the front door
the wanted man pulled a handgun from his jacket and pointed it at the officer
That officer and another officer standing at the rear passenger side of the SUV both told the man multiple times to drop the gun
he was then transferred to Atrium Charlotte
where he later died from his injuries on Monday
The three officers and the driver of the Yukon were uninjured
The man who died has been identified as Edgar Maddison Welch of Salisbury
He was wanted for a felony probation violation
The officers who fired their weapons have been named as Officer Brooks Jones and Officer Caleb Tate
The third officer did not shoot his gun and remains unnamed
the State Bureau of Investigation is in charge of investigating the shooting
and Officer Jones and Officer Tate are on administrative leave
No more updates are expected until the end of the investigation and a decision is made by the Cabarrus County District Attorney
NC – Two people are dead following a shooting in the parking lot of the Cabarrus County Social Services Office on South Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis
The shooting happened around 8:30 Wednesday morning
Kannapolis police say they received a 911 call that a man was firing a gun in the parking lot
When officers arrived they found 45-year-old Maria Julian-Pichardo and her 19-year-old daughter Yamilaine Sosa-Julian dead
A Cabarrus County Sheriff Deputy and other law enforcement chased the suspect
51-year-old Rafael Lopez to Rockwell where police say he pulled over and then shot himself
Investigators say Lopez and Julian-Pichardo were married
Law enforcement and DSS began investigating a situation involving the couple on February 1 following a domestic violence incident at their home while their children were present
At that time firearms were removed from the home
Lopez was charged with a misdemeanor crime of domestic assault
On February 14 he was served with a temporary 50-B Domestic Protective Order
The two victims were at DSS to meet with a social worker to further discuss the domestic violence incident
Natalie Jones is a licensed professional counselor
She says situations like this happen almost every day
Jones tells victims to take extra precautions when taking out a restraining order
that may be investing in some sort of personal Protection,” said Jones

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A man has been arrested after a 7-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her sibling Thursday morning in Kannapolis
officers were called to a home along Cabarrus Arms Drive around 7:30 a.m
where they found a young child who had been shot
The 7-year-old girl died from her injuries at the scene
The investigation determined she had been accidentally shot once by her sibling
was unsecured at the home when the sibling picked it up and it accidentally fired
Burris has been charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury
storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor
and contributing to the delinquency of a minor
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The man shot and killed by Kannapolis Police on January 4th has been identified as Edgar Maddison Welch of Salisbury. Welch made headlines in late 2016 after driving from Salisbury to a Washington
DC pizza parlor with an assault rifle to “self-investigate” false claims of a politician-led child sex ring being run out of the business
Welch fired shots into the pizza shop’s walls
He was sentenced to four years in federal prison
Welch was shot and killed by officers during a traffic stop on January 4
Kannapolis Police say they were patrolling North Cannon Boulevard around 10 that night when they saw a gray 2001 GMC Yukon they recognized as being driven by a person who had an outstanding warrant
as the person with an outstanding arrest warrant
While the officer was speaking with the driver of the Yukon
two additional Kannapolis Police officers arrived to assist
The officer who initiated the traffic stop opened the front passenger’s door to arrest Welch
Investigators say that Welch then pulled out a handgun from his jacket
and pointed it in the direction of the officer
That officer and a second officer say they gave commands for Welch to drop the gun
They say that Welch refused to drop the gun
and both officers fired their weapons at Welch
Welch was transported to Atrium Cabarrus and then Atrium Charlotte
as well as the driver of the Yukon and a back seat passenger
The officers who fired their duty weapon during this incident are Officer Brooks Jones and Officer Caleb Tate
A third officer who was on scene at the time of the shooting did not fire his duty weapon
This investigation remains on-going by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the officers who fired their duty weapon remain on administrative leave as is standard protocol
The outstanding warrant for arrest on Welch was for a Felony Probation Violation
