Diving Coach of the Year after leading Keller to a sweep of the Texas 6A state titles Maisey O’Donnell was a two-time diving champion for Concord-Carlisle High School and had plans to dive in college for Williams College Fairbanks spent the last 25 years as head coach of the girls’ program at Hutchinson and was the head coach of the boys’ program during two separate stints The NFHS approved a permissive rule that will allow high school state swimming associations to adopt the use of backstroke ledges in competitions Richard Sybesma was the head coach of TCU swimming & diving for 38 years a longer tenure than any head coach in school history May 02nd, 2025 High School, News Keller High School head swim & dive coach Jamie Shults has resigned from her position the school confirmed to SwimSwam on Friday who was hired as the Keller head coach in 2022 has led the program to an incredible amount of success over the past three years including the boys’ team winning three straight Texas UIL 6A state titles from 2023 to 2025 Shults led the girls’ program to the 6A state title making Keller just the third school to sweep the boys’ and girls’ titles in state history Shults was named the 2024 NFHS Sectional High School Boys Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year and the 2025 Section and UIL Boys Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year Williamson was named the 2025 UIL Boys 6A Swimmer of the Meet after winning five state titles (including three relays) who previously competed for Keller as a swimmer took over the role as head coach from her mother who held the position for 14 years before stepping down in 2022 The reasoning behind Shults’ resignation is unknown The school would “not share details of personnel matters” beyond confirming her resignation Shults has not responded to a request for comment Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_2" ).setAttribute( "value" Isnt it the same people that were involved in the NTN and Carroll take down a few years ago Say Those boys didn’t move for athletic purposes recruit other swimmers but got away with not going to their high school practices Why did LAC have a pool use contract with Keller during school hours and why were those kids allowed to skip her class to train with the LAC coaches instead of going to class Maybe the state of Texas too because I don’t think you can falsify attendance records They left Carroll because they didn’t want to swim HS practices and Travis wouldn’t let them have morning practices Then Dan Balent quit during a meet and immediately went to LAC nothing to do with the future of Keller swim guys her family has been coaching Keller swim for decades she was fired district gave her an ultimatum resign or we will fire you she went specifically some parent is responsible reporting her to the district for the truth which is essentially she has never coached Keller HS all of the KHS swimmers on the LAC National Team training group did not have to practice and didn’t with KHS at all and they would get out of school go straight to club and be counted present Jamie only coached non National Team swimmers (respectfully everyone who didn’t contribute to their accomplishments) Are we really that shocked after what Maximus and Company did to NTN This is the case with pretty much all of the most successful high school programs in the country The Massachusetts girls state championship is pretty much determined by who trains with their high school coach the least The way high school swimming works is that all of the most successful teams have cultivated good relationships with a top local club team whether it’s shared staffing or pool space high school teams need swimmers and club teams need pool space) usually skirt the official rules of state high school athletics boards (kids doing their home working during high school practice and then swimming with their club) After Maximus left coach didn’t want anything to do with Keller The local club deserves all of the credit for the teams wins It is no secret that most of the varsity parents wanted her gone They did the same thing to Kevin Murphy at Southlake Carrol We need a deep dive into the horrors of LAC Both high schools have apparent legitimate reasons to let coaches resign gets kids 100% ready to win state championships You don’t find it odd that the two powerhouse high school swim programs both have pushed their coaches out in the same year From someone in Fort Worth it really does have something to do with LAC “Horrors” is a bit of a exaggeration though LAC is pretty successful and the National Team swimmers 99% will swim in college it’s more so LAC seems to overstep their reach they want to control HSs swimming programs and if you don’t comply they will probably bully their way to getting you fired There’s a HUGE difference with Murphy He cared for his swimmers and worked hard to improve them Many club swimmers didn’t like the excessive training under him she’s a JV coach or an assistant age group club coach Nepotism got her the job over many qualified candidates this doesn’t have anything to do with LAC Many high schools have bad swim coaches because its a sport most ADs dont understand These 2 get written about because they’ve had big results Remove all the club kids and then how does either school rank High schools need club swimmers; club teams need access to pools Yes they would be faster overall if they have them High school coaches need club swimmers to keep their jobs via wins Club teams need access to high school pools to invest and develop the swimmers If the high school coach has different rules for the club swimmers I have to say- follow my bubbles is most definitely the most accurate comment here this is very much so what is happening Murphys firing though was somewhat related to LAC Shults was fired for doing nothing and Murphy was fired for doing to much not allowing his kids to go to National Team morning practices etc LAC coaches disliked that Murphy force tapered them or did stuff that ruined the National Teams training plans and meet prep But Murphy certainly was not like Shults he did not really care what LAC wanted he trained his swimmers relentlessly even sometimes forcing them to go to HS on weekends or doubles in the weekdays No one did “the same thing” to anyone then you did something wrong…..simple More from James SutherlandSee All Subscribe to our newsletter and receive our latest updates DeJong goes on IL after 'scary' HBP to Charlie Geren would set rules for how a school district could split off from an existing one 20% of registered voters in each of the proposed new districts would have to sign a petition and voters would decide whether to approve the split The State Board of Education would oversee the election The Texas House’s public education committee held a hearing Tuesday to gather public testimony but didn’t decide whether to advance the bill for a full vote on the House floor testified in favor of the bill and of requiring public input before such decisions She shared concerns that Keller ISD's split would have unfairly harmed her area leaving North Fort Worth without resources and facilities that had been paid for with decades’ worth of taxpayer money like the district’s varsity football stadium a trustee and secretary of the Keller ISD board during a closed-door meeting in December 2024 the proposal to split the district was introduced “To say I was shocked was an understatement,” Smith said “It wasn't part of any long-range plan in public discussion and it wasn't even a thought that had ever crossed my mind My immediate question was simple: When will this go to a vote Smith warned that splitting Keller ISD without a public vote “would fracture our communities,” and said moving forward without voter approval would have hurt residents in the new districts One of the key concerns coming from community members was that the lack of clear rules on how school districts can split apart raised the question of whether school boards could make such decisions on their own potentially leaving residents without a say in the matter Community members also worried that splitting Keller ISD in two would deepen economic inequalities creating one richer district while leaving the second one with fewer resources Vice President of the Keller ISD Board of Trustees arguing that putting the State Board of Education in charge of administering the election would shift power away from local officials as it's being proposed … usurps two levels of local control the school district board of trustees and the county commissioners’ court,” Birt said “Republicans typically support local control Are representatives really saying that local decisions should be made in Austin?” Responding to concerns that a district split could unfairly distribute resources Birt said that was not the motivation behind the proposal “People have been making this out to be a poor versus rich decision Tickets are on sale now for the 15th annual Texas Tribune Festival Texas’ breakout ideas and legal analysis consulting firm working on behalf of the City of Williamsport is looking for $500,000 for architectural and engineering design work with a focus on a public safety building vice president and managing director of grants loans and procurement for Keller Partners & Co. told City Council the Keller team will pursue the funding as part of its plan for looking for community projects money It does not mean that if the city would get the $500,000 it immediately must begin to look for an architectural and engineering firm to design a multi-million dollar police building It just puts the city in a better position to have this pot of money “Regardless of the final decision — rehab City Hall we will need money for architecture and engineering,” Mayor Derek Slaughter said it makes sense for Keller to go after these funds we can use these dollars to complete the design work.” director of the city community and economic development department explained this rationale for pursuing the process to obtain the funding after Councilman Jon Mackey Mackey said what sense would it make if the design of a building for Williamsport Bureau of Police was presented in a draft report by BKV Group as the size of a Walmart The city would have three years to obligate the funds and five years in which to spend them Mackey then thanked Fessler and Keller for the explanation Council Vice President Eric Beiter told Keller’s team: “We had a timely presentation about a month ago from a consultant that we hired to do the study on our City Hall building and public safety building It would seem that you’re about two zeros short in the funding that you are requesting They were asking for around $50 million to build a new building.” “Not quite sure what the plan is with $500,000 for this?” Beiter asked “We do wish we could go after a grant for a building in those kinds of dollars but unfortunately there is no grant available for that amount,” Keller said nip and tuck and this would be one way to do it is to pay for the engineering and design,” he said Council President Adam Yoder asked about the timeline and added the presentation we got about a joint police-city hall building was “substantial.” The city is working through alternative options related to what came out of that report “I don’t know if any of them are building a new building,” Yoder added asking “what is the timing on when this funding would be secured released and when we would begin that process of selecting an architectural and engineering firm and going down that path?” “I ask that for understanding timing because I would hate to have two kinds of parallel things conflicting and your efforts not be fruitful and wasted.” or renovating existing space — which may be more in line with what is available from budget point He added the timing would be as related to Congress passing a federal fiscal 2026 year budget The city would ideally have prioritized this request and wait for legislation to be enacted and completed It was estimated the process could take a good part of a year Councilwoman Liz Miele asked if the city decided that “we did not want to go the public safety building route could money be reallocated to something different with money aligned for a solution for city hall but not a public safety building Does that money go away?” The issue is the city is exploring a stand along public safety building but also a solution to the City Hall situation “As long as the public safety component is the focus,” Garfinkel said Even if there was a redesign of a portion of City Hall that would be allowable use of those funds “It would help to know that in advance “We need to be told what your priority is and if this is a no go we need to know about it We don’t want to expend the capital and energy to work this and lobby for this if this is not a priority.” Miele said there is a definite need for a new and more efficient comfortable and functioning location for police “It is not necessarily a priority to make certain that it is a separate public safety building,” she said Whether a renovation of a building costs $5 million or $10 million it would benefit the city to hire an architectural and engineering firm “Everyone is aware there are challenges at local level and federal level,” Keller said adding there are not a whole lot of $10 million grants for construction of police stations but there is funding for police stations the council members agree they are waiting to be presented with the BKV Group revised draft report on city government operations and support Keller team as it lobbies for congressionally directed funding and support – can add language to the grant application to give city officials more latitude when they and convenient to make arrangements and host services close to home The following report originally published 5 years ago this week here at PWTorch.com… -A video package aired with highlights of Drew McIntyre’s win over Brock Lesnar last night -Phillips and Saxton introduced the show and said this is the most unpredictable night of the year for Raw Austin Theory & Angel Garza in a rematch for the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles The announcers talked about what mood Asuka would be in after having “failed” at WrestleMania Morgan leg scissored Asuka off the ring apron to the floor “Can Morgan can get back in it on Monday Night Raw?” They cut to a break Morgan dropped back for a leverage two count arm dragging Morgan and cinching on the hold for the tapout Asuka celebrated with her over-the-top dancing to her music afterward You can tell who was around and available for the Raw pre-tapes last month as we’re getting a lot of Asuka and Street Profits Asuka is good for providing organic crowd-free energy and noise and her entrance is among the most dynamic when it comes to distracting from the lack of crowd I worry a match with no backstory or pre-match hype going that long is going to test the patience of some viewers early since WWE didn’t exactly give anyone watching a strong hook to stay tuned other than the generic promise of this being the most unpredictable Raw of the year.) -Phillips threw to a video package on Becky Lynch vs -Charly Caruso interviewed Becky backstage Becky said it feels good to be a champ for nearly a year Caruso asked if Becky rolling Baszler back was her last gasp Becky said everything she does is calculated and she’s always looking for a counter She said she’s the longest combined NXT Champion and has a great MMA resume She said her resume is perhaps unmatched in WWE today Becky said Baszler can knock on her door if she thinks her win was lucky (Keller’s Analysis: The camera stayed on Caruso too long as she awkwardly gazed toward Becky with a smile for several seconds as Becky walked away Becky is being herself here and reacting like an athlete would to a win I think that’s plenty for Becky’s character as long as the structure around her is fundamentally sound – which is framing the title as important making sure the way contenders are determined seems to have integrity making sure her challengers are presented as wrestlers fans don’t want to see take over as champion and the way matches play out and conclude seems to have credibility that’s where overly bombastic trying-to-hard promos tend to come in to try to make up for it -Baszler talked about the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat backstage with at white towel over her head She yanked off the towel and said she is promising Becky “the agony of my defeat.” She stared into the camera threateningly (Keller’s Analysis: It seems more steam was taken out of the legend of Baszler at WrestleMania than was put back in by this promo but at least Baszler didn’t just curl up into a ball of self-pity and instead vowed to dish out some pain I’m not fully condemning Baszler’s initial loss against Becky as necessarily bad since Becky holding the title for over a year has some real value.) -Phillips hyped that the Street Profits vs Saxton said they’d take a look at the “unorthodox and ultra-personal WrestleMania Boneyard Match between Undertaker and A.J -A commercial aired for the Edge “24” special on WWE Network (2) THE STREET PROFITS (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs ANGEL GARZA & AUSTIN THEORY (w/Zelina Vega) Saxton talked about what a big deal it was for the Profits to successfully defend their tag team titles at their first WrestleMania but I liked it.” Dawkins checked Theory hard to the mat after a leapfrog Dawkins tagged in Ford who landed a signature high dropkick The Profits slammed an interfering Garza onto Theory Saxton said this is a new team of Theory and Garza so it’d be unheard of to win the tag team titles that quickly He said they are showing they learned already from their loss at WrestleMania given how well they were doing here Saxton said Charlotte becoming NXT Champion in 2020 in “one of the OMG” moments of the year Eventually Dawkins hot-tagged in Ford just as Garza also tagged in Ford hit a flurry of moves against Garza including a dropkick and a DDT Vega held Ford’s leg as he stood on the top rope WINNER: Street Profits in 12:00 via DQ to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles and the lack of any sensible reaction by Phillips and Saxton was annoying Phillips said “the official is going to throw out this match.” Doesn’t Phillips mean the referee is going to DQ Garza & Theory And shouldn’t the announcers say that the interference backfired and cost Theory & Garza a coveted chance at the Raw Tag Team Titles It just totally undercuts the idea that wrestlers value title matches when the announcers are so unaffected by the heels cheating completely backfiring.) As Vega kicked Ford in the face as Theory and Garza held him She asked Zelina if she really thinks she’s doing something so come on in the ring or does she have to get her herself Saxton and Phillips wondered if that match would take place next (3) BIANCA BELAIR (w/The Street Profits) vs Phillips said Belair is one of the best pure athletes in WWE (That label again is applied to a black wrestler which is a rich tradition in pro wrestling as the default compliment that also implies something if they don’t succeed despite that great pure athleticism It’s time to move on from that “compliment” disproportionately being applied to black athletes and look for another way to frame their characters and describe their strengths.) Ford slid toward the lens of the camera and yelled and made faces Phillips mentioned that Ford is Belair’s husband Theory stood on the ring apron to get in the way of Belair running the ropes -The Profits and Belair stood in the ring after the heel trio bailed out to ringside Ford said they are one day removed from WrestleMania and since they’re all there why not make it a family affair and do a three-on-three match (Keller’s Analysis: This is a real test of the audience’s interest in these six wrestlers It’s just a shame WWE just threw them to the ring and didn’t have them talk ahead of time and put some real passion into stating what was at stake while giving viewers a strong reason to cheer for one side and boo the other and but televised pro wrestling is at its best when promos from good talkers get you excited about a match WWE just forgets to do that for mid-card level matches and they pay the price when they try to hold viewers’ interest when a lot of viewers just don’t have reason to care a lot or think anything is really at stake.) [c] (4) THE STREET PROFITS & BIANCA BELAIR vs ANGEL GARZA & AUSTIN THEORY & ZELINA VEGA Ford tagged in Belair who knocked Theory off the ring apron rather than stopping this time Garza broke up the cover by yanking on her boot Theory caught Ford with a superkick as he turned the corner at ringside Dawkins chased Garza to the back as Belair gave Vega a snake-eyes/Glam Slam followed by her KOD for the win WINNERS: Street Profits & Belair in 6:00 (Keller’s Analysis: Imagine being stuck in an elevator with Montez Ford and Mojo Rawley -Phillips hyped the look back at the Undertaker-A.J as they’d show shocking footage of what happened after Drew won the WWE Title (Keller’s Analysis: It would have been beneficial to mention that earlier as a hook for viewers to stick around The announcers should have excitedly lead with that at the very top of the show and built a sense that you must stay tuned to see this.) It included freeze-frames of Lana yelling instructions from the ring apron at Lashley giving Black a chance to strike with a surprise Black Mass -Caruso asked Lashley what happened to him “Something tells me I need new management or a new wife.” He stared at Caruso who was all smiles and asked what they ere talking about -Clips aired of Aleister throwing Black Mass kicks at various opponents -They showed the exterior of the Performance Center The announcers really talked up Black’s win over Lashley The announcers said Crews is an exciting pick-up for Raw with an “expiring draft pick.” (In other words he was around and available at the tapings and they needed someone to face Black.) About three minutes in after Black got the better of Crews after some running the ropes Black sat down mid-ring and Crews bailed out to ringside to regroup Phillips said this is the exciting part about the “Raw After WrestleMania” because you never know what’s going to happen He referred to Crews and Belair showing up on Raw Phillips said they’d hear from Charlotte later in the show Phillips talked up WrestleMania being the most social show in WWE history with nearly 14 million social interactions (I suppose it helps to have something to brag about since they can’t tout the crowd or ratings or probably WWE Network subscriber levels It lets people know that a lot of people had a lot to say about WrestleMania 36 despite the odd setting and difficult circumstances.) Saxton said Black is beat up from the Lashley match which gives Crews an opening to take advantage of They fought to ringside where Crews kicked Black in the shoulder and then moonsaulted off the ring apron onto Black then took him down with a lariat for a near fall Black rolled out of the path of a Crews top rope splash then took Crews down and applied a kneebar mid-ring Crews cried out in pain and reached for the bottom rope He eventually got there to force Black to release the hold (Keller’s Analysis: Who had their money on an Apollo Crews match on the Raw After Mania that had three commercial breaks in it?) [c] Black swept Crews and landed a running knee He kicked Crews in the face and scored another two count Phillips said after this match they’d take a look back at the Randy Orton-Edge match at WrestleMania Crews and Black battled on the ropes leading to Crews superplexing Black for a near fall Crews pressed Black in the air and then landed a sitout powerbomb for a near fall Saxton said sometimes there is no substitution for pure power Crews pressed Black again and dropped him behind him then landed a standing moonsault and a standing shooting star press for a two count which he had been selling most of the match but Black caught him mid-air with a knee to the chin Black sunset-flipped Crews to counter his powerbomb set-up Black then finally caught Crews with the Black Mass for the win who was knocked out cold for a while after the match (Keller’s Analysis: This match was designed to fill a lot of TV time first and foremost with limited options for WWE at their pre-WrestleMania tapings to get them through the stay-at-home order in Florida where the Performance Center is Black and Crews made the most of it with a really good lengthy match The downside is there was no crowd to win over and react big which would have enhanced the enjoyment of the match for viewers at home there was no crowd to get bored and thus not react in case they didn’t buy into Crews as a threat against Blacks  which would worked against the enjoyment of the match for viewers at home While it helped Crews show the kind of match he can have Crews has been so diminished with how he’s been utilized by WWE for years now Black needing nearly a half hour to beat him takes more away from Black than it does to help Crews This defines Black down as a slightly-above-mid-carder rather than something really special I wish they did more to stress that Black was hobbled from the Lashley match at WrestleMania while Crews was resting a little heel-face dynamic would have added some edge We’ll see if this showcase match for Crews is the start of a new push for him or a one-off to fill TV time on a weird week.) -A three minute video package aired highlights of the Edge-Orton Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania -Philips plugged Cedric & Ricochet would be in action next Saxton said they’d be taking a look back at the Undertaker vs -An NXT commercial aired hyping Johnny Gargano vs Tomasso Ciampa and the six-woman ladder match to become no Phillips noted that Lorcan & Burch are from 205 Live and NXT with a chance to shine against the new team of Cedric & Ricochet Phillips again teased that what happened after the Lesnar-Drew match was stunning and they’d show it later it looked like someone hit the 2x button on the remote Black and Ricochet finished Lorcan after a sequence concluding with the Recoil (Keller’s Analysis: It’s good they didn’t go too long with this although it wasn’t a great moment for Burch & Lorcan to go down so easily to two wrestlers who didn’t even make the cut to be part of WrestleMania and apparently the start of the Lashley babyface turn is noteworthy on this episode.) [c] -Phillips touted the social activity for WrestleMania and showed various mainstream headlines about the event -A two minute video package recapped the Kevin Owens-Seth Rollins match at WrestleMania -A post-match promo aired with KO in the parking garage speaking about how in the last five months He said all he wanted for five months was to get Seth in the ring one-on-one and all he got were multiple attacks by three and four at a time He said it got so bad he began to ask himself if it was worth it when he jumped off the sign and crashed onto Seth and the table he realized it was worth it to have a WrestleMania Moment he could finally be proud of He said it’s time to move on to bigger and better things He said he used to call himself a prize fighter or maybe there are more people in WWE like Seth who deserve a stunner or two the message and mentality will be the same he is there to stay and it will be the Kevin Owens Show (Keller’s Analysis: KO can give an interesting promo when he has nothing really new to talk about I like accentuating the win and what it means to him It gives fans a chance to bask with him during his celebration I was left feeling Owens has no idea what’s next for his character so he covered all bases in a generic sense – maybe I’ll chase a champion and be a prize fighter maybe I’ll take out another irritant on the roster.) Phillips wondered what mood Seth would be in Seth walked very slowly with small steps to the ring Phillip said the look on Seth’s face tells the story of what happened at WM Phillips: “That’s the look of a very ticked off Monday Night Messiah.” Saxton said maybe he’s despondent Seth stomped away at Dejournette early and then took it to him at ringside Then he threw him back into the ring and landed The Stomp for the win -Saxton excitedly said Nia Jax is returning to Raw tonight (Keller’s Analysis: There’s actually a lot happening on this show but they did a terrible job setting the stage for it They just keep mentioning in passing newsworthy items during extended content that feels like largely dry filler This was a week to open Raw with list of bullet points on how newsworthy the show would be – Seth in action after his loss Kevin Owens speaking about the impact of his win on his mindset and future Charlotte speaking for the first time about regaining the NXT Title Apollo Crews joining Raw and looking to make an early statement reaction from both Becky and Baszler to their WM match a shocking post-match occurrence between Lesnar and Drew and a look back at Edge-Orton and Styles-Undertaker They previewed some of those during match commentary but the first hour or so of this show just felt like it was going to be a phoned in uneventful show of long matches with mid-carders and highlights of other stuff I wonder how many viewers they lost first.) -A commercial aired for Smackdown asking what comes in the wake of WrestleMania with new champions emerging above the rest and changing the landscape Jax outpowered Purrazzo from the very start Saxton said this is her first match in a year Phillips talked about how much has changed since she was last around – Charlotte as NXT Champion Jax landed a Samoan Drop and then a cradle DDT for the win (Keller’s Analysis: I like that they made a big deal out of Jax returning and gave her a decisive win upon her return It presented her as a disruptor to the scene that she’s been away from for a year -A nearly five minute highlight package aired of the Undertaker-Styles Boneyard match Phillips said they’d hear from Charlotte later tonight 260 pound Australian Vink took it to Carillo out of the gate Carillo avoided a suplex and landed a jaw jacker followed by a springboard armdrag He landed a roundkick to the face and then a top rope dropkick Vink slammed Carilllo and scored a two count Phillips said he’s still processing “whatever the hell the Firefly Funhouse match was.” Saxton said he’s had some dreams like that Carillo made a comeback and dropped Vink with a moonsault off the top rope for the win Carillo celebrated on the middle turnbuckle in the corner as if he was being cheered by a large crowd (Keller’s Analysis: Here’s a situation where Carillo’s win would have meant so much more if over the last week or so WWE put together a brief introductory package on Vink to make it seem like he was an intimidated new arrival threatening whatever momentum Carillo has I understand Vink might have been on the show because he was local and they were trying to cram in a Raw taping before sending everyone to quarantine for two weeks so I’m more forgiving of putting him out there with no build or context and he also has a personality they can market.) -Phillips hyped a look back at the Charlotte win over Rhea Ripley and then said they’d hear from Charlotte -Phillips touted the social media activity record for WrestleMania -A two minute highlight video aired of the Charlotte win over Ripley -Caruso congratulated Charlotte on her win Charlotte interrupted her and told her she doesn’t need her to congratulate her and everybody thinks it’s a suit the makes the man “It’s the man that makes the suit.” She said now it’s the woman who makes the title She said she retired the Divas Title and has held the Raw Title but she did what everyone else does – she bowed down to The Queen I’m hoping she thrives as a character in the NXT environment.) -Highlights aired of the Lesnar loss to Drew Phillips said he is the first wrestler born in the U.K to win the WWE Title and he’s the first Scottish champion in WWE history She asked if the magnitude of what he accomplished has hit him yet after just 20 minutes Drew said not yet and he hasn’t had a chance to talk to anyone He said he took the time to get the plate changed with his name on the side of the belt and that is helping it feel real Paul Heyman.” He said during the match he felt ready and he saw a look in Lesnar’s eyes that he was ready to go to war he’s going to stay down,” it showed he said Heyman doesn’t know him very well He said he has never surrendered and has dug himself out from ten feet under all the way back to WrestleMania Show walked out and brought a referee to the ring by the arm Show entered the ring with a big smile on his face You conquered the Conquerer!” He said now there’s an entire locker room of talented competitors with him in their sights He said he’s not asking for a match at Money in the Bank Drew said he just beat Lesnar for the WWE Title 20 minute ago Drew said he’s not afraid of him or anybody but there’s nothing he could say to convince him to fight him tonight (Keller’s Analysis: I think Drew trying to avoid defending the title when Show challenged him was framed better It was unreasonable of Show to challenge Drew so quickly after the Lesnar victory but having Drew’s first segment with the title talking his way out of a challenge is far from ideal I know they wanted to get from point A to point C Drew could have said he’d love to defend against someone with Big Show’s resume but he wants to do it right where they’re both 100 percent and prepared so they can really find out who the better man is The announcers could have done a much better job acting outraged at Show’s ridiculous timing and shamed him so that Drew trying to step away from the challenge would have seemed totally reasonable.) Phillips wondered if this was a wise decision Phillips said they’ve never seen someone win the title at WrestleMania and then defend it not even 30 minutes later Saxton said this is a good play by Show because he knows Drew isn’t 100 percent Phillips talked about Show’s history including beating Hulk Hogan in his first night and also facing Lesnar in the past A screen graphic said: “After the show last night.” Saxton said Drew worked so hard to win the title Show landed a swing elbow drop out of the corner for a two count this is how I do my best work.” Show continued to beat down Drew methodically and yelled “What are you made of?” Show chokeslammed Drew but Drew ducked and landed a Claymore for the three count WINNER: Drew in 7:00 to retain the WWE Title (Keller’s Analysis: I liked that as a hot ending to the Raw After Mania This was clearly a one-off stunt to give fans who stuck around a sense that they saw something they didn’t expect that fits the “Raw After Mania” reputation It also gave Drew a strong win against a big opponent and while the segment leading up to it was shaky for Drew he ultimate won against a tough foe just 30 minutes after taking a beating from Lesnar.) this felt like a generic drab canned Raw with unnaturally long matches with a collection of (recently overexposed) second-tier and third-tier wrestlers and unknown jobbers between highlight packages of WrestleMania matches and the main event segment satisfying enough (if imperfect) to make this – under less-than-ideal circumstances – a suitable and satisfactory Raw After Mania effort You must be logged in to post a comment Now with three payment method options… Pay Pal… Directly with your Credit or Debit Card… Or with Patreon. 60 second express sign up form •Wade Keller Podcasts & PWTorch Dailycasts with Ads and Plugs removed •Around 75 monthly VIP-exclusive podcasts (Phone Podcast App Compatible!) •Library of around 10,000 podcasts (circa 2004-today) & 100s of retro radio shows (circa 1990s) •Over 1,600 Newsletter Back Issues: Late 1980s thru today (PDF & Text Versions) •New Weekly PWTorch Newsletter w/exclusive articles (PDF & Text Versions) •An ad-free version of PWTorch website with added VIP-Member-Only articles each week –JUMP RIGHT TO EXPRESS SIGN-UP FORMOR READ A DETAILED LIST OF VIP BENEFITS Become a PWTorch Patreon Supporter and get all of our free podcasts (WKPWPs & Dailycasts) with ads and plugs removed for just $4.99 a month. -Phillips introduced the show as the camera panned the empty Performance Center as spotlights moved around the set He threw to a video package on Drew McIntyre beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 “Unforgettable crowning achievement on the grandest stage of them all.” Phillips said they are thrilled to have the Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler back with them Lawler said he thinks Drew beating Brock Lesnar was the biggest win in WWE history Drew thanked everyone for letting him into their living rooms He thanked everyone for the outpouring of support He said the internet can sometimes be pretty negative it’s been so positive from fans and media outlets He said it’s surreal that he’s champion and he did so by beating “The Beast” Brock Lesnar in under five minutes He said it’s also surreal that within 20 minutes Drew leaned on the top rope and commented over a replay of the match on the big screen He said Big Show is still a giant and nothing Big Show does feels good Big Show fell to the Claymore for the three count He said beating Lesnar and Show back to back illustrates what kind of champion he’ll be a fighting champion who shows up every week He said the message to everyone is if you are deserving champion He was interrupted by Andrade and Zelina Vega She apologized for ruining his rah rah speech She said it sounded like something straight out of “Braveheart.” She said she wanted to congratulate him in person about having two WrestleMania Moments in the same night Zelina said her associate was robbed of his opportunity and it’d be a real shame if someone were to injure Drew and take his title away from him Drew said he’s going to interrupt her before she talks in more circles He talked about the last time they wrestled which was in NXT He said Andrade dropped him on his head and his arm was connected to the rope but his bicep was torn off the bone “and you cost me six month of my career” and walked out with the NXT Title He told Andrade that if he wants the match (Keller’s Analysis: Drew is carrying himself well as a proud champion Vega was a good agitating heel to set the stage for their match later I liked the callback to their prior encounter in NXT.) and Lawler standing right next to each other (without any social spacing) Lawler wondered if the match is going to happen Nia Jax in Money in the Bank qualifier matches Phillips specifically said the MITB winner gets a title shot against “their brand’s champion.” -They showed Asuka doing squats and warming up backstage as Kairi Sane cheered her on -Phillips confirmed the “can’t miss main event” has become official – Drew facing Andrade in a champion vs Phillips noted that 83 percent of MITB winners since 2005 have cashed in successfully raised the energy level of the show with constant talking in the ring as Ruby reacted incredulously to her non-stop noise-making They fought to ringside a couple minutes in but Asuka surprised her with a high roundkick to the head Asuka celebrated by dancing on the ringside barricade as they cut to a break and as a worker in the background smiled at her antics Riott eventually hit a Flatliner for a two count but Asuka rolled out of it and leveraged Riott’s shoulders down Asuka then shifted into the Asukalock for the tapout win Charly Caruso stood next to Asuka mid-ring She congratulated her on her win and asked about a more aggressive style lately Asuka shouted in Japanese and pointed at the brief case hanging above her head (Keller’s Analysis: Another example of a needless close interaction between an interviewer and a wrestler with Asuka aiming her shouting right at Caruso’s face within a couple feet WWE wants everyone to trust them but they can’t even get this easy stuff right If you deem an interviewer holding a mic necessary the wrestlers should be instructed to never face toward them and instead talk away from them It’s not just about what’s safe for those involved it’s also about what makes people comfortable watching at home.) -Phillips hyped Aleister Black would be in action next -MVP was back with a special MVP Lounge segment backstage He said next week there will be three MITB qualifying matches He called himself the greatest ladder match wrestler ever Phillips seemed to have one or two things to say about MITB and just kept repeating it which led to some reactions about the format and concept by Lawler and Saxton but it’s not a substitute for fierce rivalries and personal issues between wrestlers Black kicked Lorcan out of the ring a couple minutes in and they cut to a break Lawler gifted viewers with the “essential” expert analysis that Oney Lorcan reminds him of Cesaro and that it must be his real name he uses because who would make up a name like that (WWE did change Chris Hero’s name to Kassius Ohno though.) Black eventually finished Lorcan with a Black Mass -Sarah Schreiber asked what Black’s gameplan is next week -Saxton excitedly said Becky Lynch is on Raw for the first time since her WrestleMania victory next She said she only had a short time to beat “the human bone-breaker” Shayna She said she warned Shayna it’d be a battle of heart vs She said some people are saying a lot about her lately including saying her title reign has gone to her head but maybe she approached things the way she did to get into Shayna’s head whoever wins and thinks they have a plan to beat her Her music played and she held up her title belt (Keller’s Analysis: Really good promo from Becky I continue to be a fan of her demeanor and approach to representing herself as champion.) -Caruso interviewed Zelina and Andrade backstage about facing Drew later it’s “uhn-drade.” Then she asked who comes up with those questions for her because it can’t be her because “you can’t be that ridiculous can you?” She said Andrade has been defeating everyone in his path month after month and Andrade beat Drew the last time they wrestled Andrade said a few words to close out the interview but it was difficult to make out what he said other than it took Drew a long time to become a WWE Champion -Saxton congratulated Big Show for his new sitcom on Netflix finishing no -Schreiber asked Baszler if she’s heard the latest comments from Ronda Rousey that were derogatory toward her and if she has a comment Phillips said Baszler “could care less” about pleasing the WWE Universe and instead she’s fixated on getting a rematch against Lynch and the MITB is that opportunity The ref backed off Baszler after a beating on the mat Baszler stomped on her arm and the ref stopped the match as Logan cried in pain Phillips said Baszler advances because Logan couldn’t continue The ring announcer said it backwards and announced Logan as the winner Adam Pearce entered with a referee to help her out of the ring (Keller’s Analysis: Phillips keeps using the term “thrown out” when he means instead a wrestler or team was disqualified A match is not “thrown out” if there is a winner and a loser via DQ.) -Seth Rollins was shown backstage speaking about losing to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania The announcers on camera clarified that Baszler has moved on and the ring announcer did make a mistake Phillips said WWE.com would have updates on Logan’s condition Lawler claimed he pronounces Andrade’s name correctly and Zelina quickly said he definitely does not When Lawler said Black has been unstoppable lately she said his mouth is also unstoppable and he should talk about what’s happening in the ring Tozawa ran at Theory with a boot as Theory stood on the ring apron The boot didn’t come within a foot of Theory Tozawa slapped his leg to make the sound of impact Tozawa ran along the ring apron and flipped onto Theory on the floor Lawler called it a “Roman noodle moonsault.” (Because he’s Asian but insisted she was fine “and it’s never been more fine,” she added Tozawa threw Theory back into the ring and then kicked him in the head He leaped off the top rope and landed a dropkick to the chest for a two count When Saxton said it could be real bad for Theory it’s not.” Theory the finished Tozawa with his ATL finisher Angel Garza and Andrade congratulated Theory Vega stood on the announce desk and applauded Then they shifted to a two minute snippet of Drew McIntyre’s WWE Network special “Chronicle: Drew McIntyre.” -Caruso interviewed Rey Mysterio and asked what it would mean to him to finally win a MITB match He talked about Kane cashing in against him nobody knows more than I do how dangerous the Money in the Bank contract can be.” He said his first task is to beat Murphy next week on Raw He said next week he’ll put it all on the line and become Mr Money in the Bank and he’ll be the one cashing in -A somber Seth backstage said he wants everyone to know that he is still there for the viewers “your messiah has truly risen.” Lawler said if they get on Seth’s side Garza walked up to a woman taking pictures at ringside and gave her a flower and kissed her cheek Garza dropkicked Miles out of mid-air early Lawler said all the women are swiping right right now He blew a kiss to the camera and then went after Miles again on the mat Theory and Andrade joined Garza in attacking Miles Phillips said that move sidelined Drew years ago and he faces Andrade later tonight -Schreiber interviewed the Kabuki Warriors backstage (They’re putting interviewers’ names on the screen now which is nice.) Asuka bragged that Ruby wasn’t ready for her When Schreiber asked what her confidence level is going up against Nia Jax “Asuka Dance.” They smiled and strutted and danced away asking about the comments made earlier by Zelina and Andrade He said at least two or three times a week he sees that scar and is reminded about that night He said it cost him six months of his career and derailed his career He said he worked his arse off to become WWE Champion He promised to hurt and Claymore kick Andrade “If he has to take six months off because of me (Keller’s Analysis: It’s strange hearing a babyface sound like he’s complaining about the effectiveness of a legal move executed against him in a match that hurt him Is there a rule against “hurting someone too badly” even if there’s no evidence of intent to severely injure someone beyond the goal of winning a match?) Nia tossed around and overpowered Kairi early They showed Asuka leaping up and down watching on a monitor backstage She pressed Kairi above her head and then gave her The Annihilator (Samoan Drop) for the three count that really made Kairi seem weak and defined her down from a credible singles push in the future without some amnesia or a babyface turn Being a babyface is ultimately the best role for her anyway.) -Charlotte walked to the ring as she was introduced as the new NXT Women’s Champion She referred to herself in the third person as “the Queen” throughout She said it was ballsy of Rhea Ripley to challenge her She said it got her attention and it reminded her of someone she knows She said now she stands before them as the two-time NXT Women’s Champion She said she is now “the biggest thing.” She said Vince McMahon knew last year she was the biggest thing which is why he chose her to save WrestleMania She said Ripley knows she’s the biggest thing She said that’s why she is standing before everyone to remind them that there are levels to this She said she is going to remind NXT of humility and the first lesson is everyone bows down to the Queen She closed with a “woo!” Lawler asked Saxton and Phillips to “bow down.” Phillips threw to a clip of Black beating Bobby Lashley last week then Lashley saying he might need new management or a new wife as a result of bad advice Lana gave him -The announcers reacted to another replay of what Baszler did to Logan’s arm earlier Lashley leaped to the floor and asked Lana to “please shut the hell up.” She got a pouty face Lashley immediately gave Jose a urinage and a spear for the win but there seemed to be some lingering tension -Seth addressed the “non-believers.” He said they have left him no alternative -Phillips said The Viking Raiders “return to Raw” next -Phillips plugged next week’s three first-time ever MITB qualifying matches Lawler stumbled over saying “irresistible force meeting an immovable object” at the start of the match Some wild and awkward four-way action broke out leading to a near fall by Cedric on Erik Ivar eventually dove through the ropes onto Ricochet and Cedric as they cut to a break the Raiders were in control against Cedric Ricochet did a lot of talking in the lead up to various highspots then landed a standing shooting star press on Erik and then splashed Cedric before tagging in Erik They double-teamed Cedric and Erik scored a two count Another double-team move lead to a near fall They botched their signature finisher on Cedric The Raiders seemed to not have their ring legs or timing after extended time off The Raiders played the role of heels in this match in terms of the structure and it was a strange match-up to begin with Ricochet and Cedric looked strong against the bigger opponents -The Street Profits were interviewed backstage Bianca Belair was shown off to the side disapproving of their playing around She said the Viking Raiders “might be cosplay,” but every time they face the Raiders you get “whopped.” She told them to get serious and “get that smoke.” Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins took their tough love in stride seeming to actually take in her comments as potentially productive (Keller’s Analysis: You know how this is ending “Are you going to control her?” Drew said to Andrade You belong to me.” Drew headbutted Andrade to the mat in the opening seconds Phillips noted Drew is the first wrestler to win the WWE Title at WrestleMania and defend it minutes later (That might explain the motivation of why they did the Big Show angle and match the way they did rather than just putting it out there as part of Raw as it played out last week – to give Drew a special “bragging point.”) Andrade fought back with chops and knees and then slamming Drew’s previously injured arm over the ringside barricade Drew made a comeback and landed a Claymore in the ring for the win Seth charged into the ring and superkicked Drew Seth stared into the camera and looked possessed now we know Drew’s first likely PPV title challenger.) CEO Keller Cliffton charts the company’s recent expansion from transporting blood for lifesaving transfusions in Rwanda to retail deliveries across eight countries—including high-profile partnerships with the likes of Walmart Zipline’s do-good health efforts and commercial deliveries are all part of Cliffton’s vision for a radical new transportation network that meets consumers’ desire for accessibility and speed This is an abridged transcript of an interview from Rapid Response hosted by the former editor-in-chief of Fast Company Bob Safian From the team behind the Masters of Scale podcast Rapid Response features candid conversations with today’s top business leaders navigating real-time challenges Subscribe to Rapid Response wherever you get your podcasts to ensure you never miss an episode I’ve been watching Zipline’s evolution over the years with fascination You first popped up on my radar for using drones to deliver medicines in hard-to-reach places in Africa and then I saw a similarly named company doing drone delivery for restaurants and retailers that I thought You recently announced an expanded partnership with Walmart to provide deliveries in Texas How different is it to do business with a Walmart versus our backgrounds were in automation and robotics and it seemed to us like it should be possible to build an automated logistics system for Earth We were seeing all of these logistics failures logistics really only serves the golden billion people on Earth If you’re in the 7 billion people who aren’t in the golden billion your access either sucks or is nonexistent about five and a half million kids lose their lives every year due to lack of access to basic medical products we felt that it really should be possible to use robotics and autonomy to solve logistics in an entirely new way that would save lives You’re right that we actually spent the first eight years of the company’s history operating exclusively in Africa Nobody believed that this was going to work And investors assured us that there was no chance we were going to get regulatory approval to do what we wanted to do It was obvious to us that we needed to find a use case that was so incredibly important that even a conservative regulator would sort of roll out the red carpet and work with us as a partnership to make it happen And that first partner was the Ministry of Health in Rwanda We started delivering blood transfusions to 21 hospitals across the country of Rwanda And now when you think about what the Zipline is those three things were core parts of our mission from day one Saving lives was a big part of what we were doing for the first three but also saving governments money was a big part of what we were doing And always we had this underlying mission of transitioning logistics to a zero emission future It was taking products that were traveling in cars or motorcycles or trucks to a future that was fully electric and far more efficient Today we deliver 75% of the national blood supply of Rwanda fully autonomously outside the capital city We’ve delivered about 22 million doses of vaccines in the last 18 months Then it expanded to animal healthcare products and animal vaccines Then it expanded to quick commerce products and delivering things to hotels and homes Now we’re building a new national postal service on top of it you started with this high-stakes lifesaving stuff and now you’ve added sort of convenience But really it’s all about funding the socially minded work Is the retail business there to fund the socially minded work you always wanted to go broader and that this was a more systemic effort that the social part of it was a way to get to that we think that people deserve access to lifesaving medical products They also deserve access to economic opportunity If you’re trying to start a business and you live in a rural part of a country If you’re trying to buy products for your family you have a right to buy the best products or the cheapest products available rather than just what might happen to be available at the store right next to you So I think logistics plays a bigger role in our lives than we realize Logistics should serve all people on Earth equally and that really is the promise of bringing autonomy and robotics to bear in logistics Bringing down logistics costs dramatically making delivery faster but more universally available It’s true that probably nothing will compare to delivering a blood transfusion to a mom with postpartum hemorrhaging which is what we did for the first four years of the company’s history Is there any difference in the commercial sphere And turns out that if you can design a way of delivering things directly to people’s homes that is 10 times as fast and half the cost and zero emission The demand for instant delivery has increased dramatically it’s now become a expectation for consumers We’re using technology that’s 100 years old to serve that demand And so we actually think it’s not surprising that the way that we’re solving the problem today is really inefficient and bad for the environment and expensive you want to build new technology that can serve that market so there’s no one remotely manipulating a joystick to move them around and guide them So Zipline builds the largest drone delivery system on Earth We are a robotics company that designs every part of the system These vehicles can fly anywhere from 25 miles to 150 miles depending on what version of the system we’re talking about the customer ordering app that consumers can use it just took a long time to build all these different parts of the stack to make the technology available capable of operating in all kinds of weather Zipline has now flown about 100 million commercial autonomous miles That means that we’re the largest commercial autonomous system on Earth that is going from the Earth to the moon and back 200 times Or that is the equivalent of driving every single road in the United States 24 times or was promised to us by this big tech company and they didn’t deliver The reality is actually that the technology is working Learn More -They opened with a video package featuring A.J Styles demeaning and emasculating Undertaker for being under the control of his money-grubbing fame-hungry wife as clips aired of Taker out of character with his wife Michelle McCool and doing a shot with Steve Austin on a recent WWE Network interview Then they played Styles saying he wants the vintage Undertaker at WrestleMania I don’t know if you have a big set of if you’re really that stupid your mouth’s writing checks your ass can’t cash I’m sure you thought by dropping some pipe bombs I’ve heard a lot worse from far better than you.” He said there are some truths to what he is saying He said Styles said ten or fifteen years ago He said Styles was content being a big fish in a little pond because he knew back then he didn’t have what it takes to hang with Undertaker and Edge – “the very best this business had to offer.” He said: “Phenomenal One You waited until they were all gone except for me.” He said he is the first to admit he has far more matches behind him than in front of him but he said “Allan” stepped in something now He said he crossed the line the first time he mentioned his wife He said he thinks Styles is upset that she got his finisher over as “The Faith Breaker” in WWE and did it better than he did He said he’ll pay a price for that in a bone yard He told Styles to try him at WrestleMania and he’ll make him famous He told Styles to bring the ass clowns so all three of them can feel the wrath of the unholy trinity he’s bringing with him He said he will feel the pain and he will get hurt and he will suffer and he will rest in peace A tombstone graphic appeared behind Taker saying “A.J (Keller’s Analysis: The delivery was good and intense Taker saying Styles is jealous of his wife getting over his Styles Clash was a stretch Firing back at Styles by calling him Allen Jones made sense as a retort but I’m not for the fourth-wall breaking basis of this entire feud There was enough to work with between these two not to have to go with some insider stuff catering to “the Internet fan.” That world can be kept separate from the world WWE presents on TV and Undertaker was one one of the last hold-outs in that regard But Taker had to push back against Styles hard and he went to the “shoot-style” material also Calling Styles “little” seems to undercut the achievement of beating him It for the North American Title Here’s my full match report from PWTorch.com the night of the event BECKY LYNCH – Raw and Smackdown Titles at stake Charlotte flew into the parking area of Met Life Stadium in a helicopter had help putting her robe and feather headpiece on Mike Rome then began announcements for the “Winner Takes All Triple Threat Match.” His mic faded mid announcement Joan Jett & The Blackhearts performed Rousey’s theme live on the stage Rousey then made her way to the ring looking very serious It’s 5 minutes before the END OF SUNDAY in New York at this point Graves talked about how  Then Becky made her entrance without any special fanfare other than her entrance theme Cole talked about the small ripple that became a ground swell and now has “overtaken the world.” Rome did the ring introductions and his mic was back working Becky went after Ronda at the start and tired a disarm her as Charlotte watched then caught  a charging Charlotte with some round kicks Rousey lifted and drove Becky hard into the ringside barricade Then Ronda gave Charlotte her Piper’s Pit on the floor Charlotte gave Rousey an overhead slam into the ringside barricade Back in the ring Becky and Charlotte went after each other with an exchange of forearms and punches but Becky leveraged Charlotte’s shoulders down Rousey rolled back into the ring and kicked Becky and Charlotte Charlotte kneed Rousey and then kicked her in the head Charlotte and Becky lifted and then powerbombed Rousey over the top rope Becky kicked Rousey off of Charlotte and Rousey landed on the back of her shoulders and could’ve easily landed on the back of her head as her butt her the edge of the ring on the way down That freed up Charlotte and Becky to wrestle for a while one-on-one but Charlotte broke it up quickly with a running knee Becky!” Charlotte covered Rousey and got a two count Rousey got mouthy and said she “slaps like a bitch.” Charlotte gave her a backhand cross the face Rousey leaped at Charlotte and went for an armbar Charlotte leveraged Rousey into a camel clutch instead Becky gave Charlotte a bulldog from behind to break that up so she gave Charlotte a regular DDT at the same time as a Rousey inverted DDT Becky gave Charlotte a Bexploder suplex off the middle rope for a near fall They both lifted her and gave her a tandem powerbomb They released Ronda and went after each other Charlotte threw Becky out and then ran over and covered Rousey for a near fall Becky knocked Charlotte not the floor and then applied a disarmher on Rousey Rousey crawled over to the bottom rope and used it to lift Becky and escape Becky applied the armbar while sitting on the top rope Charlotte stood on the top rope and dove off with a Becky in her arms and they crashed hard to the mat with a Spanish fly Becky broke up the cover and went for a disarm her Charlotte rammed Becky’s face into the middle turnbuckle Charlotte then wrapped Rousey’s leg around the ringpost and then applied a figure-four Charlotte threw Becky hard into the ringside barricade but Rousey rolled her up for a believable near fall Charlotte then put Rousey in a figure-four m but Becky leaped off the top rope with a leg drop to break it up Becky pulled a table out form under the ring She set up the table as Rousey clutched her knee and Charlotte sold at ringside Charlotte attacked Becky and put her on the table “Ronda said she doesn’t need a table.” Renee said “That’s not quite what she said.” Becky countered  Piper’s Pit but Becky countered with an armbar attempt Charlotte speared both of them and then scored a two count on Becky She grabbed Charlotte and yelled out something about “fake” and then rammed her face into the table a few times but Charlotte speared her for another two count Cole’s voice grew more hoarse with every near fall but they worked together to throw Charlotte into the table Rousey lifted her with help of the ropes to stand but Becky leveraged Rousey’s shoulders down and scored a three count Rousey protested that her shoulders weren’t down Fireworks blasted as Becky celebrated with both belts A replay showed that Rousey’s shoulders were clearly not down at one Maybe the ref started counting too quickly and Rousey planned to left her shoulder a bit at three but the third count never came because the ref started a bit early The announcers quickly talked about it as if it was an angle they were anticipating This gives off the impression this was supposed to be a controversy What’s interesting is they went to two replays and the second replay cut out the first count where Rousey’s shoulders were clearly not down and maybe it was too obvious They went to a wide shot of the arena as her music played WINNER: Becky in 25:00 to become both Raw & Smackdown Champion (Keller’s Analysis: That was non-stop drama I’m not going to mark it down because it was so late in the night and everyone was tired It felt like all three desperately wanted to win.) -The match ended just a minute or so into the second hour (Keller’s Analysis: The replays of matches have held up well with viewership and they teased enough new content already to hold people with this replay of a stellar main event from last year with a big crossover star in Rousey that many more casual viewers will likely be curious to watch It’s also a hell of a match to rewatch if it’s been a while.) -Becky was “still standing on the stage” and said that’s the first time she’s watched that back history tends to follow the one who made it She said she also gets followed by dopes who can’t problem admitting I don’t know who I am without being the champ anymore,” she said She said she walks around all cool with her low voice and cage fighter resume in her top pocket but she realized last week she’s starting to get to her She said Baszler is going to fight from emotion and finally do the one thing her pal Ronda Rousey wouldn’t do She said she can see the relief and exhilaration she’ll get from beating her you’ll steal Ronda’s spotlight instead of the other way around.” She said the other possibility is she loses and put back in Ronda’s shadow She asked Baszler “which one of us do you mean exactly” when you say the person who loses will be destroyed Baszler then attacked Becky with the Kirafuda Clutch from behind Baszler swung Becky by her legs head-first into the announce table Then she grabbed the Raw Women’s Title and held it over Becky as she writhed in pain (Keller’s Analysis: Standout promo from Becky that highlighted a lot of key factors in this match including the dynamic of Baszler trying to achieve what Ronda Rousey couldn’t The attack at the end wasn’t entirely unpredictable but it made sense to have Baszler fire back and get some heat going into WM.) "He was so low that he couldn’t see or even hold the seat down so he sat in my lap.” It was in St. Louis where Keller first met the Tkachuks — skating alongside Matthew and Brady while absorbing coaching lessons from Keith. “He was really young, but this kid was determined,” Keith said. “We’d go to tournaments where we had a good team, but he always kind of rose above everybody else while people were saying he was too small." And it is in St. Louis where Keller has recorded 34 points in 31 games — his highest point total in any road NHL arena. With two games left in the 2024-25 season, Keller sits at 85 points, one away from the career high he set two seasons ago in Arizona, tying Tkachuk's Coyotes franchise record. Much has changed since then. Keller has moved to Utah from the only NHL life he never knew in Arizona. He has donned the captain's "C" that Tkachuk wore for five seasons before the Coyotes traded him to the Blues. Despite the immense pressure that those dueling challenges created for him in his eighth full NHL season, one thing hasn't changed about Keller. He keeps taking his game to new heights. He has already set a career high with 58 assists this season despite logging about a minute and a half less average ice time than he did in his career season of 2022-23, and he continues to be a model of durability, missing just one game this season. Part of Keller's improvement is clearly due to having better players around him. Part of his improvement is likely due to the maturation of young stars such as Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther. But ask Keller's coach and he doesn't mince words about who is most responsible for Keller's continued ascension. "He's 100 percent the biggest part of it," Tourigny said. "There's no doubt he's better this year than he was on both sides of the ice, but I say that all the time about him; how much he works at his craft. "If you look at this game this season, he's really competitive defensively, and offensively, with the way he competes to get inside. Kells is a student, so when you look at how the goals are scored in key situations in the NHL, there's a lot of dirty goals, there's a lot of tips, rebounds, deflections, but he really understands it's not about just going inside. It's about having the timing to arrive inside at the right time to get a stick on the puck or a rebound." Keller is well aware that he is approaching a career high in points, but when asked about its significance he brushed it off before turning his attention to greater aspirations. "It's not important at all," he said. "Getting into the playoffs is obviously number one, and that's the thing that sticks out the most to me. Until that happens, the rest is good, but it's not what drives me." Like Tkachuk was in Arizona, Keller is the first captain in Utah Hockey Club history. There were some analysts who felt it should have happened sooner, and Keller always welcomed the responsibility when asked about it in Arizona, but it never bothered him that Tourigny and his staff waited to bestow the honor while also naming Lawson Crouse the NHL's only "associate captain." Keller understood why Tourigny delayed laying that pressure on his shoulders. "I've used these last couple seasons or whatever it's been where we haven't been in the playoffs — where we're in a bit of a rebuild — to really hone in on my game," Keller said. "I saw that as a time to get better as a player; to gain edges on guys." When the team moved to Utah, however, the coaching staff felt that the timing was right to make Keller the face of the franchise. All that was left was for ownership to sign off. So they did some homework. Keller flew to Salt Lake City last summer to play golf with owner Ryan Smith, Jazz executive Danny Ainge and PGA golfer Tony Finau, and the team reached out to others in Keller's life, almost as if they were researching a draft prospect. "They even leaned on us as agents to understand kind of what makes this group tick, or what makes Kells tick," said Scott Bartlett, who represents both Keller and Logan Cooley. "They did a nice job of trying to learn the personalities quickly." On Oct. 4, the team made Keller's captaincy official. Six months later, the reviews are in. "I think he has done a tremendous job," said housemate and frequent linemate Barrett Hayton. "The most important thing is he's continued to be himself and do what has got him to this level of play, and also got him to this level of influence on the [dressing] room. He's definitely a lead-by-example captain. His intensity, his commitment to the game, his desire to win just drives the group. Guys see that and it's contagious. "But there's definitely times to speak up, too, and he's definitely at the peak of that. I think in game situations is probably where he shows it the most. He's just so into the game; so dialed in. But one thing about our group is we have a lot of leaders so that responsibility can be taken on by a bunch of voices." Tourigny had a lot of talks with Keller before and after the "C" was awarded. In fact, he talks to him nearly every day. "It can be about nothing or very important things, it can take anywhere between five seconds and five minutes, and it can be scheduled or it can be at practice," Utah's coach said. "It can be about intensity. It can be the mood of the team. It can be about his game or other guys on the team. "I never approached him about being a captain. I approached him about being a leader and the responsibility of being a leader, the responsibility towards his teammates, the responsibility to react under pressure, under tough situations. If you look at our past few seasons, he certainly had the opportunity to practice it a lot under some tough situations." Keller has always played with a chip on his shoulder — a likely product of those youth days Tkachuk referenced when critics constantly told him he was too small to become an NHL player. Maturity and the captaincy haven't taken away that internal drive, but they have softened the outward expression of it. "I think that's something I've gotten tremendously better at — that aspect of being a lot more vocal, but saying the right things," Keller said. "How I address something or someone has just gotten so much better. There's times where you are frustrated. It's going to happen in games or in a season, but I've done a better job of making sure that when that happens, we're all focused on the right things. That's something that I can honestly say I'm proud of." Keller loved his life in Arizona. He built a spectacular house in Paradise Valley that he elected to keep despite the move to Utah. His parents also have a place in Arizona. But it didn't take long for Keller to settle into his new life in Utah. Once he had secured a house from a private equity firm, his mom, Kelley, arrived to oversee significant renovations. When Clayton is on long road trips, she comes to Utah to housesit and dog-sit Keller's Bernedoodle, Lucky. "His house is really cool," Bryan Keller said. "It's like 5,000-feet elevation and it's built right into the mountains with big balconies that wrap all the way around the house so he's overlooking the city and can see Delta Center. "I think it's safe to say he has settled in nicely in his new life in Utah, and I don't think there was much adjustment because of the way Ryan Smith onboarded them. Clayton always says they do everything first class, but it just amazes me that Ryan Smith was able to do everything in such a short time period, and really pull this off." This Friday will mark the one-year anniversary of the NHL's official announcement of the Coyotes' relocation to Utah. In that short span of time, Keller is close to pulling off a major feat of his own. He has managed to remake his life, seamlessly assume the captaincy, and maybe, if things go well in Nashville and St. Louis, set a new career high for points. "I've loved every second of it," he said. "With this being the franchise's first season, I'm just super thankful that they chose me as their captain. I love being here and I love everything about it." Although Utah didn't achieve its preseason goal of making the playoffs this season, Keller vowed to keep pushing himself and his team to reach that level in the seasons to come. "I think we have turned the page on the rebuild," he said. "Guys are getting a little bit older, and our younger players have had a great transition. The playoffs are definitely our expectation now, every single year, and I think we're only going to get better as we go on. "I still feel super young. I mean, I'm 26 so I am still young, but I still feel like I'm coming out of college where I have that same excitement. I'm super pumped for what we can do next season and after that." Falling tree limbs in Birmingham kills one person, another injured JASPER, Ala. — A Walker County judge has ordered former reserve deputy James Earl Keller be held without bond, citing the strength of the evidence against him. Judge Henry Allred ruled on Friday that Keller, 50, poses a "real and present danger to himself and others" and that the low end of the bond schedule would be inadequate to ensure his appearance in court. Court documents reveal that Keller allegedly used his prior position and training to intimidate and threaten a minor victim. The documents also note that Keller possesses numerous firearms and ammunition. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) launched an investigation into Keller on April 2, following allegations of sexual abuse. Keller was arrested on April 22 and faces multiple charges, including first-degree sodomy, four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, enticing a child for immoral purposes, and facilitating the travel of a child for an unlawful sex act. The charges are related to alleged incidents involving a minor child. According to the complaint, Keller engaged in sodomy with the child, who was incapacitated due to intoxication. He is also accused of enticing the child into his garage with lascivious intent and arranging for her transport to a fairground, where he allegedly got her intoxicated and fondled her. Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith confirmed that Keller is a former reserve deputy with the department. The investigation is ongoing and will be turned over to the Walker County District Attorney's Office upon completion. 2025Getty ImagesSave this storySaveSave this storySaveAll products and listings featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links As one of the most accomplished chefs the United States has ever produced Thomas Keller definitely has an appreciation for precision It is quickly apparent that this attention to detail extends to all aspects of his life or which train,” he says when pondering his preferred means of getting around “The A320 is probably my favorite airplane and a BMW 7 Extended Series is my favorite car.” You're going to travel at some point in each one of those modes of transportation so you might as well figure out which ones are your favorite.” he chatted about the fellow chefs he turns to for restaurant recommendations and required methods of hotel coffee delivery because you have the time and it's easy although obviously some airlines are better than others—I worked for Lufthansa for a season It could be something as simple as signing all the birthday cards [for diners] that I do [for my restaurants] every month or drafting a memo to my team based on a specific thing that I want to accomplish Most of the time I’ll get a nap in as well Those are the three things I’m looking for How he chooses where to eat when traveling: I truly just want to go to casual restaurants. I mean, if I'm going to Paris or London I'll always eat at a fine dining restaurant but mostly it's going to be casual and I'll always rely on my colleagues’ recommendations Whether I'm going to Paris and [chefs] Pierre Gagnaire or Frédéric Anton's are recommending something or going to London and having chefs [Jason] Atherton or [Gordon] Ramsay recommending something I want to be able to enjoy some of the cultural things about a city and just explore and walk around and experience it as a local would experience it A place he feels is underrated for its food: Portugal, although I think it’s becoming a relevant player in world gastronomy and wine. I was there two and a half years ago and just had a wonderful time exploring Lisbon and experiencing its food watching some of the younger chefs do some beautiful food based on their history and culture and learning about Portuguese wines from the sommeliers who are so enthusiastic about what they're doing in the country We go to Mexico every year seeing what [the country] has done over the past 30 years with its wineries and certainly with the tequila and mezcal programs The wines have really grown to a superior level The chefs there are doing some extraordinary work with local cuisine or reinterpreting historical cuisine Cabo San Lucas and the whole strip on the Sea of Cortes has turned into a mecca for Americans that are very culturally oriented to that old-school Mexican cuisine so I think probably the most important amenity in a hotel room is going to be the availability of a coffee machine Running downstairs to get a coffee at the coffee station in the lobby but I want to wake up in the morning and have my first cup of coffee and relax and start my day before I go out I don't want to get dressed to go downstairs and get a cup of coffee and I don't want to wait for room service I don’t need that whole room service experience So I think the most important thing is a really good coffee machine The first thing I do is go grocery shopping I don't really eat out a lot when I'm in New York but I do have some favorite restaurants: Yakitori Totto I can pop over during service and get a bite and go back to work without having to leave the building There’s not a lot of exceptional things I do when I’m in New York Vietnam. I love the food history, with the French influence and the way that the Vietnamese have interpreted that in their own cuisine. The history of Vietnam, the beaches, and what I've heard of the hospitality—that’s one place that I've not been that I would like to go. up-to-the-minute voice in all things travel Condé Nast Traveler is the global citizen’s bible and muse We understand that time is the greatest luxury which is why Condé Nast Traveler mines its network of experts and influencers so that you never waste a meal or a hotel stay wherever you are in the world A new chicken chain with global flavors is coming to Dallas-Fort Worth: Called Spice Wing it specializes in chicken wings and tenders and is opening a location in Keller at 8561 N He's also opening a location in Fort Worth at 5811 Bryant Irvin Rd. plus two more locations on the Dallas side of town: Lewisville at 980 W which will debut on April 30; and a location in Richardson at 2000 N Spice Wing was founded in the Atlanta a young entrepreneur on a mission to deliver a unique wing experience that tasted "like a trip around the world." Known for its investments in real estate platforms like CoreLogic (now rebranded as Cotality) and Lone Wolf Technologies Stone Point offers Keller Williams access to ideas partnerships and potential acquisitions but not operational interference “They’re not operators,” Czarnacki said “Their role is to help us uncover opportunities and connections that can accelerate our agents’ success.” A large part of that acceleration will come from sharpening Keller Williams’ existing strengths. Czarnacki is prioritizing investments in KW University, the company’s educational platform, and MAPS Coaching, as well as improvements to the Command technology platform “Command already has a strong foundation,” he said “Our focus now is making it even more agent-centric listening to agents directly through our lab’s process and bringing third-party tools into the ecosystem where it makes sense.” Early conversations with Stone Point’s other portfolio companies have opened doors to potential integrations but Czarnecki stressed that all decisions will be agent-driven Czarnecki brings a leadership approach shaped by his background, having grown a commercial real estate platform from $80 million to more than $6 billion in assets His style is deliberate: empower the broader team while ensuring each executive has a clear development and succession plan in place “It’s about making sure the ship is running smoothly not being the loudest voice in the room.” That philosophy extends to engaging with Keller Williams’ Operating Partner Council and staying closely connected to the franchise owners and agents who drive the business daily While many brokerage leaders have weighed in on compliance debates after the National Association of Realtors‘ settlement and controversy surrounding its Clear Cooperation Policy Czarnecki has been careful to keep Keller Williams neutral at the corporate level “These are local decisions,” he said “We support our brokers and agents in advocating for their best interests within their MLSs and markets but it’s not our role to dictate a national stance.” That approach aligns with the company’s decentralized structure Czarnecki is focused on expanding Keller Williams’ marketing presence and positioning the brand and agents for success in any market environment coaching and operational consistency are what will help our agents win,” he said “Our job is to stay rooted in those fundamentals while building for the future.” Czarnacki’s early leadership suggests a clear strategy: strengthen the core leverage strategic partnerships and let agent entrepreneurs drive the next phase of growth and website in this browser for the next time I comment Fair housing experts offer their thoughts on what a repeal of CCP and more private listings could mean for members of protected classes Don't have an account?
