PA – NOVEMBER 28: People shop at the King of Prussia Mall on Thanksgiving night ahead of Black Friday on November 28
The King of Prussia Mall is nearing completion of a deal to bring new retail and entertainment venues to the vacant JCPenney building
which has remained unused since JCPenney's closure in 2017
has explored various redevelopment possibilities for the former JCPenney site
One plan was to open a brick-and-mortar location for online furniture retailer Wayfair at the mall
Hart noted in an interview with the Philadelphia Business Journal that the mall's shift toward embracing entertainment options for families can be in seen the immersive children's experience Camp and a soon-to-come Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar.
Netflix is also planning to open an experiential venue in the mall's former Lord & Taylor building called Netflix House
Netflix House will feature its own entertainment and themed merchandise
New retailers are also on their way to the mall in 2025
including Abercrombie & Fitch and Lazy Dog
is also slated to open its first Greater Philadelphia location at the mall in September
These additons are expected to expand the mall's consumer offering to more than 400 stores and 50 eateries
Discussions are ongoing for a new retailer on the upper level and another entertainment business on the first floor
My Cousin Vinny hit theaters on March 13, 1992. It would go on to gross a respectable $52.9 million at the box office
thanks to film rentals and countless airings on cable
The film was anchored by outstanding performances from Joe Pesci as the titular Vinny Gambini
He is called upon by his cousin Bill (Ralph Macchio) to represent him and his friend
in a trial for a murder they did not commit
Macchio's character thinks he and his friend are being arrested for accidentally stealing a can of tuna from a convenience store
The can of tuna and Bill's questioning of "I shot the clerk?" is still something that sticks with fans today
Macchio shared in a retrospective piece on My Cousin Vinny for Rolling Stone that he has signed many cans of tuna over the years
He recalled in one fan interaction involving a can of tuna
'Only if I can put a question mark at the end of it.'"

My Cousin Vinny would also see standout performances from character actor Lane Smith
who played district attorney Jim Trotter III
The comedy saw Fred Gwynne in his final film role before his death as Judge Chamberlain Haller
However, the breakout star of the film was Marisa Tomei as Mona Lisa Vito, the girlfriend of Pesci's Vinny. Her performance would go on to win Tomei an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Tomei's performance is so iconic that it led to a hilarious NSFW scene in the 2022 film Fire Island. (You can watch that scene here
Here are just 15 hilarious My Cousin Vinny quotes from the iconic comedy
because Vinny's cowboy boots will help him fit in in Alabama
This is one of many instances we side with Mona Lisa Vito throughout the movie
he more than redeems himself by the end of the film
The fact that this has led to Ralph Macchio signing countless cans of tuna over the years is priceless
his character Bill was well ahead of the curve on the importance of protein in one's diet
this whole scene just makes us hungry for grits
we're not talking about instant grits either
The interaction between Joe Pesci and Fred Gwynne in this scene is simply perfection
It's truly a masterclass in line delivery and facial expressions
The word "youths" has never been the same after My Cousin Vinny. Of course, it would take another turn thanks to Schmidt (Max Greenfield) on New Girl
This monologue alone made Marisa Tomei an Oscar contender
It's perfectly delivered and certainly makes you think twice about deer hunting season
Joe Pesci should teach a class called "Smart Ass-ery 101." Put it online and charge a fee
It's definitely a "Shut up and take my money!" opportunity
the polar opposite dynamic between Vinny and the Judge is one of the many hilarious parts of the movie
"You were serious about that?" is a great comeback for a superior if you ever feel like getting in trouble
You have to give Vinny credit for trying to play by the rules
even though he faced a number of obstacles
who hasn't been in a situation where they were forced to wear something they hated
Real grits take much longer than five minutes to cook
Repeat: Pesci needs to teach "Smart Ass-ery 101." His line delivery here is just outstanding
Trotter takes a turn when Mona Lisa Vito absolutely schools him
the tone of her "However" gives the impression that she's been questioned about her automotive knowledge by some ignorant man before
The dueling dialog between Pesci and Tomei is incredible
it's another example of how well Fred Gwynne emotes throughout the entire movie

Here’s the surprising part of the torpedo bat: For all its early hype
The lethal lumber has been used by some sluggers in baseball for at least a year or two only
Giancarlo Stanton and Francisco Lindor used torpedoes last season
Other players experimented with it and no one — not the bulk of other players or journalists or fans — ever really picked up on the newfangled advance in hitting innovation
Smith said only “a few baseball junkies” inquired about the bats
“I think it’s just one of those things that until you’re looking for it
a former Yankees front-office staffer who now works for the Miami Marlins
was credited as the one who developed the torpedo barrel to bring more mass to a bat’s sweet spot
worked with Leanhardt in a Louisiana branch of their hit lab last year to get the bat off the ground and into the hands of big leaguers
“I think getting past the shape being different was the hardest barrier,” Smith said
“Then the team goes out and hits those home runs like they did and everyone is willing to try it.”
Victus had no plans to mass produce the bat
“I think it’s our job to kind of educate the public in what’s out there.”
The odd shape off the bat — like making a sausage
the meat is simply pushed down the casing — has little to no effect at Victus on the dynamics of making a baseball bat
with a sticker price starting at around $200
Only the slogan is punched up: Get your hands on the most-talked about bat in the game
Victus was created by Smith and Ryan Engroff in a Blackwood, New Jersey, garage in 2012 and exploded in popularity over the last decade thanks in the large part to its bat art. Bruce Tatum, an in-house artist known as “The Bat King,” calls his memorable designs such as the No. 2 pencil and crayon bats notably used in the Little League Classic “swingable art.” The Victus walls look straight out of an art gallery
rows and rows of colorful bats emblazoned with everything from Harper’s face to Gritty’s eyes are on display
“Normally people are here to talk about the Bat King,” Smith said
sketching ideas for next year’s bats for the baseball All-Star game in Philadelphia
is going to be the talk of the town,” Smith said
The company has outgrown its base and is busting at the seams
The folks at Victus — who previously have experimented with axe handle and puck knobs — have no fear the bat will become the baseball equal to the NFL’s tush push
a fresh wrinkle that some might try to legislate out of the game
MLB has relatively uncomplicated bat rules
stating under 3.02: “The bat shall be a smooth
round stick not more than 2.61 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length
The bat shall be one piece of solid wood.” It goes on to state there may be a cupped indentation up to 1 1/4 inches in depth
2 inches wide and with at least a 1-inch diameter
and experimental models must be approved by MLB
Jonny Gomes used a Victus bat when he went deep in the 2013 World Series and Harper stamped the company as a major player when he played for Washington and swung a “We The People” bat and tossed it in the air to win the 2018 Home Run Derby
“Our product kept getting better and it got to the point where he probably felt like we had the best bat
and we felt like we had the best bat,” Smith said
There’s not enough data yet to truly know how much oomph — or hits and homers — a torpedo bat may help some hitters
Cincinnati’s Elly De La Cruz picked one up for the first time Monday and had a single
double and two home runs for a career-high seven RBIs
Not all hitters are believers- or at least feel like they need to tinker with their lumber
who hit an AL-record 62 homers in 2022 and 58 last year en route to his second AL MVP award
“Why try to change something?” Phillies All-Star shortstop Trea Turner said the hoopla was “blown out of proportion.”
“You’ve still got to hit the ball,” Turner said
Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen grew up a Mark McGwire fan and compared the fad to the bloated barrel used by the retired St
For it to take this long is wild,” Gallen said
The bat is here today and not going anywhere — except perhaps flying off the shelves
“For bats to be the hot topic out in the zeitgeist is cool,” Smith said

Shopping malls in the Philadelphia region are attempting to bring customers a unique experience to meet the demands of the future
The company invested heavily in expanding the physical footprint of the mall
“Cherry Hill has always been the showpiece in South Jersey in terms of asset quality
“Our customers here — it’s a strong demographic
It’s a fashion-forward demographic.”
PREIT brought Nordstrom to the Cherry Hill Mall in 2009
The endeavor was a resource-intensive swing to bring a higher-end department store to the property
PREIT had to purchase Strawbridge’s old retail space
Cherry Hill is arguably the premier shopping mall
with a plethora of fine dining experiences
“One of the elements here that we pride ourselves in is the restaurant row,” Ventresca said
“We worked hard to bring that to the asset.”
“The mall business is a capital-intensive business,” Ventresca said
The common thread that ties each of its malls together is how they must adapt
introduce new concepts — and spend more money to keep consumers interested
“Foot traffic is what it’s all about,” he said
Something about the idea of a crowded mall lights a fire in his eyes
Industry experts believe the mall is not extinct
there is a difference between the institution and a beloved small town mall like Granite Run
An amusement park is a tough act to follow
developers erected the Willow Grove Park Mall on its grave back in 1982
“I think the 90s are really ‘peak mall,’” Lange said
“It was a time of great economic expansion in the U.S
People who were building new malls to serve those suburbs.”
The mall became the backdrop of many iconic movies and television shows
It supported many small businesses and provided a generation of young people with their first jobs
spent his youth at the Plymouth Meeting Mall in the 1980s
“Willow Grove actually has a special place in my heart,” Ventresca said
“My parents met on the site of the former amusement park that was subsequently turned into the Willow Grove Park Mall.”
has traveled around the globe to 91 countries across all seven continents
Woodin can vividly remember shopping there with his wife and children — making pit stops at the WHYY Store of Knowledge
eating a messy meal from Taco Bell in the food court and the calming flow of water from the fountains
whether it was the cinnamon buns or the soft pretzels or the pizza or the coffee
It was a warm hub to your senses,” Woodin said
it’s like a ghost town,” Woodin said
“It’s like a city after a war — no damage
It’s like a mouth with missing teeth.”
Meanwhile, PREIT is still trying new ways to improve Willow Grove. Tilted 10
all of the new experiences malls are banking on to lure in new customers
However, there’s some credence to Woodin’s observations. Some things have changed. Willow Grove’s iconic fountain is gone. Many of the old anchors have bid farewell. Some of the lights are often switched off. The community fashion shows are no more
Ventresca declined to comment on Willow Grove’s fiscal health
Woodin feels a sense of sadness and nostalgia for how it used to be
The restaurants with outward-facing entrances might get his money
but he has a hard time setting foot inside the mall itself
“I don’t see myself going to Willow Grove Mall at any time in the near future unless it drastically changes,” Woodin said
I’ve been to the Cheesecake Factory — but like I never even walked in or out of the mall.”
If someone closes their eyes and lists the defining features of the quintessential mall
the fountain would likely be near the top of the list
It is what inspired the namesake of Lange’s book
“Meet Me by the Fountain: An Inside History of the Mall.”
“It’s an amenity for our guests to sit and relax,” Putt said
it’s enjoyable to watch if you’re just sitting there dazing out or just relaxing
It just provides just that little bit of something to add to the environment and hopefully further appeal to some of our shoppers and make them more comfortable.”
The Cherry Hill Mall still has its fountains
Ventresca declined to answer why PREIT stripped Willow Grove Park of its iconic fountain
“I think removing the fountains is a sign of not caring,” Lange said
it’s about the fountain as something that needs daily maintenance that is pleasant for free
that is a place that you can meet at the mall.”
These days, Woodin finds himself at the Promenade at Upper Dublin
The 25-acre mixed-use complex is the modern-day successor to the outdoor shopping center
It blends 128,000 square feet of retail space with 400 apartment units to compel nearby residents to spend their dollars
“This reminds me of a European town,” Woodin said
Lifestyle centers such as the Promenade at Upper Dublin are a growing share of the retail space. BET Investments, which operates numerous Promenade-style properties across the country, did not respond to multiple requests for comment. The Promenade at Upper Dublin opened in 2020
In some cases, lifestyle centers spring up from the graves of dead malls — a second chance for cultural relevance. The Promenade at Granite Run, which opened in 2018, is one such example
professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business
said these types of centers can be more effective than the average mall
“It tends to be closer and there’s parking right up to the door,” Kahn said
“So one of the things that we also seeing in some of these regional malls was the configuration or reconfiguration of their space.”
She said if you want to see the future of malls
you really have to look at it from the consumer’s perspective
“There has to be something in the mall that makes it worth your while,” Kahn said
he’d rather spend an extra 15 minutes driving to the King of Prussia Mall
He said the retail giant has “anything you need” and is worth paying the tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike
and the King of Prussia Mall was the mall with stores,” Woodin said
“It didn’t have the warmth of Willow Grove.”
Lange said the mall was intended to solve the problem the mall’s inventor
She believes the next phase of the mall’s existence — whether they remain shopping malls or become something else — has to be seen as a problem that can be solved
malls are throwing everything at the wall to see if it sticks
PREIT anchored the Plymouth Meeting Mall with a Whole Foods
The company brought a Cooper University Health Care campus to the Moorestown Mall
Ventresca said PREIT is experimenting with constructing apartment units at some of its other properties. The company wants to bring 275 units in Plymouth Meetings’s parking lot.
and we review the portfolio on a regular basis to try and advance that effort,” he said
Lange said that what the mall was supposed to be and what the mall turned into are two different things.
“People need a social outlet and a social outlet that is low cost
I think a lot of municipalities need to think about expanding their community centers
expanding their parks to offer some of these services,” Lange said

a popular pizzeria and sports bar chain largely based around the Jersey Shore and New York City
Upper Merion Township Supervisor Greg Weks said
The restaurant is targeting a late summer opening, owners told the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The large facility will seat roughly 388 people across 9,000 square feet
Some 100 new jobs are expected to be created
The eatery has expanded in recent years to 13 locations and now also includes establishments in Cherry Hill and Princeton
The Philadelphia Business Journal reported on December 16th that The Kibitz Room
which has an original location in Cherry Hill
is opening a second location at 128 Town Center Road in King of Prussia (Upper Merion Township)
The space was previously the home of Michael’s Deli and
more recently King of Prussia Diner and then KOP Grill & Tavern
The Kibitz Room’s second location will be a “Jewish delicatessen on steroids,” [Owner Brandon] Parish said
with nearly quadruple the space and more than triple the amount of seating than its original Cherry Hill restaurant located at 100 Springdale Road
The King of Prussia deli will span 7,900 square feet and seat about 170 people

PA — A large group of protesters voicing their opposition to billionaire Elon Musk and his role in American government demonstrated at a Tesla facility in King of Prussia over the weekend
Dozens of protesters lined the road Saturday near the auto dealer's collision and repair building on South Henderson Road
waving signs reading "ELON-LIAR-THIEF" and "SWASTI-CAR," referencing Musk's hand gesture at an event earlier this year widely seen as a Nazi salute
It was part of the international Tesla Takedown Day of Action
a series of coordinated protests at Musk-owned or affiliated businesses around the world
"King of Prussia doesn't mess around," organizers Upper Merion Indivisible said
"We will not stand by for Musk's hostile takeover of America."
organizers targeted Musk for his outsized power in President Trump's administration and for his role in federal funding cuts
which they say have defunded essential programs
Musk has long maintained his position in the Trump administration as head of the Department of Governmental Efficiency is essential to eliminating government waste
Protesters received support from some local officials
"I commend all Americans who are standing up for our rule of law and the future of our nation," Cappelletti said in a statement Monday
"The unprecedented access the government is granting to a private individual - an unelected billionaire whose companies have received over $18 billion in federal contracts over the past decade - should concern every American."
Protesters urged the public to avoid Tesla products
with signs reading that "supporting Tesla is bad for democracy."
Participants told Patch that the protest was peaceful and confined to public spaces on the sidewalk and road outside of the Tesla facility
and that protesters were ordered to stay away from the business itself
Tesla did not respond to a request from Patch for comment on this story

PA — Work to repair chronic and debilitating sinkhole issues in King of Prussia has begun
and a stretch of DeKalb Pike will be shut down for months
Work began Monday between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard
will be closed 24/7 through at least early June
the work and the closure will switch to the southbound lanes
but hopefully this PennDOT project will stop the sinkholes on U.S
202 once and for all," Upper Merion Supervisor Greg Waks said in a statement
"This isn’t the first time there has been a major road closure in Upper Merion in recent years
Balligomingo Road and Allendale Road have all seen lengthy closures in the past decade
We made it through that and we will make it through this
Traffic will be impacted in the surrounding area
The plague of sinkholes over the past several years has crippled traffic along 202 and near the King of Prussia Mall and Turnpike
Crews will drill a series of holes in the pavement in a grid pattern and inject pressurized grout
a substance that moves like liquid and turns into solid
The hope is that the grout will move to fill the "subsurface voids" that exist all over the area and which cause the sinkholes

is opening its first Pennsylvania restaurant in King of Prussia
The liquor license for the former J Alexanders at 256 Mall Boulevard is now marked as pending for Tommy’s
