fourth quarter during the Suffolk boys lacrosse game on Tuesday April 29 Down two with less than five minutes remaining The Kingsmen had just allowed three unanswered goals to undefeated West Islip to open the fourth quarter and found themselves trailing by one But no game is ever over when senior captain Jack Salva is on the field Salva responded with a missile into the top left corner and scored another goal less than a minute later for Kings Park which scored five fourth-quarter goals in an 11-9 comeback win at West Islip Tuesday the fourth quarter has been our quarter,” Salva said perfect feed to junior Matt Corrado to give Kings Park a 10-8 lead West Islip senior Derek Busking came alive in the fourth quarter logging all four of his points which included a bruising goal through numerous defenders to cut Kings Park’s lead to one That’s when Kings Park FOGO Andrew Laviano showed how and why he’s so important to this team The junior won his 19th faceoff — finishing 19-for-23 — to give Kings Park (10-1) possession and eventually an insurance goal from senior Luke Griffin off a great pass from junior Aidan Barbosa against an open net with 22 seconds left “I had to adapt to the faceoff guy and the refs,” Laviano said “I’m able to do that with the help of my wings and by doing what I know I can do on the X.” Junior goalie Nick Vicinanza controlled the cage to the state to local gatherings like the Woodleigh Chase “pop-up rally,” as Hitlin-Mason called it “Many cars that went by honked in support and that was lovely,” Hitlin-Mason said People were very glad to do something.” Hitlin-Mason said she was in college during the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-20th century but said she’s generally “not a big protestor” and has never frequented rallies “This feels like something where I can’t sit around and do nothing,” Hitlin-Mason said According to Hitlin-Mason, many of the residents at Woodleigh Chase are immediately concerned with the Trump administration’s impact on the Social Security Administration (SSA), which has seen dramatic job cuts in recent days even as the administration promises there will be no benefit reductions While residents at a senior living facility in Fairfax — the fifth richest county in America — likely won’t be the first in dire straits Hitlin-Mason says many residents are concerned for others around the country and for their grandchildren They worry that their efforts to invest and save money to ease the financial burdens of caregiving on their children now won’t be enough “I’m afraid,” said Hitlin-Mason “During the financial crisis in 2008 there were experts in the government to help us get through that which was organized after Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 and mostly focused on criticizing Republican leadership Hitlin-Mason said the “Hands Off” protest is a message for Democratic leaders as well as Republicans “This is about pushing Democratic leadership and some Republicans,” Hitlin-Mason said “What I’ve been struck by personally is when Republicans were in the minority during the Biden and Obama administrations I kept hearing nothing could go through because Republicans were stopping it all I’m hearing is ‘we’re the minority Hitlin-Mason said she’s been impressed by the leadership of Democratic leaders like Cory Booker — who broke a Senate record last week with a speech criticizing federal funding cuts — and Jamie Raskin — who spoke at the main “Hands Off” rally in D.C she was more critical of leaders she worries are sitting back and waiting for the next midterm elections “My fear is we do not have two years,” Hitlin-Mason said so I’m very concerned about the country’s future.” If you drive to these parks, be prepared for driving mountain roads that are steep, narrow, and social activist who became a notable figure during the U.S civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until he was assassinated in 1968 He played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African American citizens in the U.S. influencing the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 King's memorial is the first to honor an African American individual on the National Mall The space is a place to contemplate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy: a non-violent philosophy striving for freedom to establish a Memorial to him in Washington National Memorial Project Foundation held a design competition and identified the Tidal Basin site for the memorial’s location entrants’ registration materials contained ten posters with images and chronology of Dr information about the memorial’s site in DC and the Foundation’s vision for the memorial Each prospective designer submitted three 24” x 36” display boards to an international panel of artists A total of 906 entrants joined the competition Jurors only knew the registration number of each entry the panel narrowed the submissions down to 23 finalists the jury asked the 23 finalists to submit a fourth board the judges selected ROMA Design Group’s plan for a stone with Dr The plan’s theme referenced a line from King’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech: “With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.” The final design includes a massive carved mountain with a slice pulled out of it symbolizing the “Stone of Hope” being hewn from the “Mountain of Despair.” Reinforcing this motif the edges of the Stone of Hope and the Mountain of Despair incorporate scrape marks to symbolize the struggle and movement as well as an engraving of the words “Out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.” Visitors may enter the memorial through the Mountain of Despair and tour the memorial reflecting on the struggle that Dr approaching the plaza where the Stone of Hope stands where an international collection of sculptors were creating public artwork to be installed throughout the city they found that four of them recommended the Chinese artist Master Lei Yixin After the Foundation interviewed him in Washington Master Lei Yixin became the official sculptor in 2007 Nick Benson and his team completed the text engravings that captured King's words with distinctive architectural lettering that is an original font drawing on both classical Greek forms and contemporary sans serif script His other engraving works include the World War II Memorial Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island Each part of the memorial is significant and symbolic a Stone of Hope surges forward as the focal point for the memorial we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.” There King captured him in a moment of reflective thought The detachment of the Stone of Hope from the Mountain of Despair symbolizes victory borne from disappointment King’s long civil rights career represents his ideals of peace As much as the quotes acknowledge the history of the civil rights struggle in America they can continue to serve as inspiration to others fighting for civil rights around the globe to the final push for full and equal rights “If you want to say that I was a drum major And all of the other shallow things will not matter.” The sermon largely dealt with the theme of the danger of the personal ego driving people and nations to live beyond their means and seek attention and supremacy to negative ends closing with Martin Luther King asking his congregation to turn that desire to stand out — to be a drum major — into service to others King wished aloud not to be remembered for his awards and education but that he “tried to give his life serving others,” and that he “tried to love and serve humanity.” The message of selflessness embodied in the sermon seemed to be at odds with what was captured on the memorial Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced his decision to remove the controversial quote by carving striations over the words which would blend in with the existing artwork sculptor Lei of success last year but it was almost like they didn’t have time to think what was happening last year." in the third quarter and 29-12 in the second half "We always say that we’re a second-half team," said Ryan Currier "We knew we had a rough first half and we wanted to win every quarter individually and really tried to [finish] them late." King Park’s pressure defense made things uncomfortable for Hills West "We say defense travels," Cestone said "You can have an off day shooting but defense is effort you make a hustle play and it can translate into offense Edmundson expects a strong second half to carry over to the semifinals you have to back it up and we’ve been talking about that." Edmundson added the team celebrated last year’s conference championship just as much as a county title – which he said was the first postseason championship in program history But this season could be Kings Park’s first true county championship which comes with a Long Island Class A appearance and possibly more after that "We’re all really excited and we want to keep this going as long as possible," Currier said "That’s a big motivator for us so hopefully we’ll be able to do that." boys lacrosse schedule and analysis from the leading source of Long Island Sports Garden City arrived with extra motivation and departed with extra satisfaction on Saturday We heard a story from a friend of a friend of ours… As we celebrate Spooktober we’re getting into everything spooky and mysterious about Perth We’ve explored some of Perth’s most haunted places over HERE and now we’re looking into some of the peculiar stories we’ve heard about our fair city over the years The suburbs of Perth are rife with tales of big cats prowling through the night – from the Toodyay Tiger and Dwellingup Panther and of course a little further south – the beloved Nannup Tiger enormous cats came to be roaming our suburbs range from the innocuous to the fantastical Were cougar kittens brought to Australia by US servicemen during the Second World War as mascots Was there an accident at a travelling circus that caused the cats to escape Are they actually the last surviving thylacines Or are they just feral cats that have grown to a giant size the continued sightings have made the Big Cats an enduring Perth legend Photo via Bush Heritage  there have been rumours for decades that Kings Park is the site of unholy Satanic rituals witches and Satanists gather at midnight to commune under moonlight and summon dark forces The myth has been exacerbated by the untimely deaths of homeless people in the park as well as the park’s vast area shrouded in darkness it’s long been claimed that the historic East Perth Cemeteries are home to a coven of witches who perform dark rituals under the cover of darkness the first recorded interment was in 1830 – so there’s been plenty of time for dark spirits to linger in the area We can’t verify any witches covens in the area but we’ve heard plenty of reports of mysterious sounds emanating from the area in the night… Photo from State Library of Western Australia 7394B, via East Perth Cemeteries An age-old legend that transcends geography – around the world you’ll hear of sightings of sasquatches tales of the yowie have passed through communities for centuries we also hear about a creature called a woodartji– much like a yowie bunyips also have their roots in Indigenous folklore and mythology descriptions vary from dog-sized amphibious creatures to large seal-like creatures they feed on anything that strays to close to their swampy homes – and are particularly fond of women and children The South Freo Power Station is a behemoth a monument of history looming large over CY O’Connor Beach – both in its physical size and the amount of mythos surrounding the building the station was in use from 1951 until it was decommissioned 1985 In the interceding years it has become increasingly run-down with each year building on the mythos of the site There have reportedly been four murders in the building as well as a number of accidental and tragic deaths including one as recently as 2016 – and allegedly some of the now-sealed rooms still feature the bloodied marks of the murders on the walls claims have floated around about Satanic rituals taking place in the tunnels with plenty of pentagrams spotted amongst the graffiti as well as claims that the tunnels extend into a network that spans across Perth Most of the station’s subterranean levels have been deliberately collapsed and filled with sand and rubble and entrances barricaded with two-inch steel plate in order to preserve safety – we suspect many of the building’s secrets are buried along with it If you’ve taken a long late night drive through an isolated road you may have encountered the phenomena of Min Min Min Min can vary from faintly glowing to bright enough to illuminate their surrounds following motorists either from a distance or keeping pace with their vehicles as they hurtle down the road Witnesses to the lights describe the Min Min retreating when followed Some Indigenous communities in the Kimberley attribute the orbs to the spirits of elders watching over Country while some scientists hypothesise that they are the result of the Fata Morgana mirage: a layer of cold air above the ground that projects lights (like headlights or torches) over great distances Perhaps this is more apt to our list of hauntings but there’s been tales for years surrounding the Alkimos Wreck with rumours that workers were welded inside the ship’s hull during construction and reports of strange sounds and smells throughout its use It was then used during the Second World War to transport US soldiers and German prisoners of war – it’s said that during this time a Canadian radio operator working onboard was shot by a crew member the ship has encountered numerous unusual misfortunes including running aground multiple times before coming to its final resting place off our coast Bought and sold eight times during its grounding each new owner had strangely bad luck befall them – including poor health and bankruptcy Divers have reported unusual sightings and even the sound of screaming boats have had inexplicably engine failures in the area and dogs even become agitated when nearby but we reckon we’ll be keeping our distance Photo by Stanley Perkins via Lost Perth Get out your Geiger counters! According to former servicemen, a radioactive Land Rover has been buried at Leeuwin Barracks in East Fremantle. The vehicle was apparently used on the Montebello Islands during Operation Hurricane: British nuclear weapons tests that included the detonation of a 25 kilotonne plutonium implosion device the Land Rover made its way back to Perth to be cleaned and put back into service – but when the contamination couldn’t be removed many legends link back to a network of tunnels beneath the city – by some accounts Some say the tunnels host satanic rituals (an enduring theme) fabled Templar treasures… or even lead to a secret lair below the Council House where you may glimpse a tall figure in the shadows a shiny medallion glinting in the moonlight Get more spooky goodness with our list of Perth’s most haunted places Planning a holiday to Perth and not sure what are the must-visits Here's our
