by funeralOne – Max Homa was at home in Arizona last month when news broke of the wildfires that would ravage the greater Los Angeles area Homa has lived through numerous natural disasters but perhaps because he grew up in Valencia and considers his victory at the 2021 Genesis Invitational he was glued to the news coverage in a more personal way I think because I've been to the area so much and I have family there and tons of friends there when I turned on the news I knew exactly where they were,” he said on Tuesday during his pre-tournament press conference ahead of the Genesis Invitational that Homa was motivated to come up with a way to do his part in the relief effort “I think your gut reaction to most ideas is that's not enough But on Monday he and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa who grew up in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountain in L.A a member of the Pasadena community with more than 15 years of service to both the Pasadena Unified School District and the City of Pasadena as well as a local youth soccer coach and the golfers presented him with a much-needed new Genesis car where he shares a household with his sister Carla and his beloved niece while Christian was working at the Pasadena Emergency Shelter helping to provide safety and care for hundreds of evacuees he received a devastating call from his sister Carla and Mia were forced to flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs They lost their home and the car among other worldly possessions They are now facing the daunting reality of displacement navigating the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding from nothing Genesis, the title sponsor of this week’s Tour event, announced Tuesday that it is donating $8 million to wildfire relief efforts while also partnering with TGR Live and the PGA Tour to launch California Rises every shot will have extra incentive through “Birdies for Good.” For every birdie and eagle made during the Genesis Invitational with $10,000 donated should a hole-in-one occur Others in the golf world have stepped up to the plate too which pledged a $1-million matching challenge to Team Rubicon veteran first responders leading the efforts which has provided thousands of clothing items to victims including Pepperdine students and local families Beginning at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and continuing this week Morikawa said he would donate $1,000 per birdie and $2,000 per eagle to the California Community Foundation and the L.A I think even with the most recent one for me that hit home was the Lahaina fires People kind of forget and then you move on to the next cycle,” Morikawa said on Tuesday during his pre-tournament press conference “I realize that's how news and media works but for how big of an impact Los Angeles has gone through with everything with the fires you just have to keep creating awareness as much as you can It's amazing to help out in my little bit and hopefully we make a lot of birdies starting Thursday.” Due to the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles the decision was made to relocate the Genesis Invitational from Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades to Torrey Pines’ South Course which hosted the Farmers Insurance Open three weeks earlier It marks the first time since 2020 that two different Tour tournaments were played at the same venue in the same season: the Workday Charity Open and the Memorial Tournament were played in back-to-back weeks at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin First responders and firefighters from California will be on-site as guests of the tournament with exclusive access including spots in the official tournament pro-am interactions with Tour players and special recognition throughout the week as a thank you for their services Ticket fees from all tickets purchased for the 2025 tournament will be donated to the California Rises initiative and tournament attendees can purchase California Rises merchandise available at the tournament shop and Torrey Pines pro shop with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity “What I guess I kind of realized yesterday getting to see the Cruz family in person react to getting their gifts and hearing what Genesis and the Tour was doing to help getting to see their faces and the emotion almost a bit of like relief from how awful their story is Makes you realize that like anything helps it was cool to be a part of just to get to see the true joy that something like that brought them,” Homa said very proud to be from Los Angeles and I am looking forward to being a part of and continuing to watch the city rebuild and everyone come together “I think that's the beauty in a way of some of these awful things that happen is you get to see the massive hearts and these inspiring stories of people who will go out of their way to help a person they've never met in their life I find that to be some kind of glimmer of sunshine in some pretty awful times… this has been inspiring to do more and to continue to try and help the best I can.” I've known a couple people that have lost everything While entertainment was the theme of the night as TGL – the indoor golf league created by Tiger and Rory McIlroy – entered Week 2, those personally affected by the Los Angeles-area fires had much more on their minds "It's been tough to see," said Homa, after Los Angeles Golf Club crushed Jupiter Links 12-1 at SoFi Center It has been especially hard on Homa and Theegala who were raised in areas just miles from where more than 40,000 acres have burned north and west of downtown Los Angeles "I know that these natural disasters happen far too often this was the first one I can remember where every news clip Homa and Theegala have friends and family whose houses are among the more than 12,300 structures that have been damaged or destroyed "When you see it right in front of your eyes it's as real as it gets and it's scarier than any media portrayals scarier than anything that's being described," Theegala said "Hopefully by some miracle of God or something we get some rain and all these fires get put out." Woods has a strong connection to the area where the largest fire burns of which Woods is the host and whose foundation is the beneficiary is played at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades The fire has come within blocks of the course The PGA Tour sent a memo to its players Thursday saying it's "premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational." Woods dismissed any questions about the tournament "We have meetings scheduled going forward but as of right now we're not really focused on the tournament," said Woods "It's more about what we can do to help everyone who's struggling who's lost homes and had their lives changed." Wind gusts of 50-70 mph were forecast for late Tuesday and into Wednesday increasing the threat of spreading the blaze More: What is the TGL golf league? What to know about Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy's venture "I get to that point sometimes when you think it's over but it's not," Morikawa said LA Golf Club is part of a fundraiser that includes the region's professional sports franchises and major colleges producing LA Strong merchandise with 100% of profits donated to the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation Theegala and Justin Rose spoke about LA Golf Club playing its part in sports as a distraction from the devastation I know I was just trying to hit great shots but I was trying to play a little bit harder for them and what's going on back home," Morikawa said and we're there for them as much as we can and doing our part hopefully just a little bit to keep the spirits high." It's not like anyone inside SoFi Center at Palm Beach State College didn't know who Woods was, and most were even probably aware of how he, Rory McIlroy and others spent years trying to make this notion of indoor golf on TV happen made-for-TV team match featuring nine holes of alternate shot triples play followed by six holes of singles play -- two holes for each player on each team The format is such that he took only 20 shots over the course of the match still laughing even after the rout ended inside the arena built just a few miles from his Jupiter Island home I think the people there got to see how bad pros can be Woods' team got on the wrong side of the scoreboard quickly It could have been worse if Woods hadn't made an 8-footer for par to help his team get a tie on the fifth hole That putt came one hole after Woods slid a 7-footer wide to the left "It's about time, Tiger," tennis legend Serena Williams said on the ESPN broadcast so she found herself rooting for him -- and she is part of the ownership group of the Los Angeles Golf Club so she found herself simultaneously rooting against him like staring down shots he liked as the super-high-tech videoboards told the tale of where the ball would have gone outdoors There were also frustrating ones; he shook his head after he sent a 101-yard wedge into the water on the second hole of the 15-hole match -- as his son sitting in one of the seats in the arena overlooking the course This is something that golf has never seen before," Woods said "You have an arena like this and you out there with great guys It wasn't just Charlie Woods chuckling at Jupiter Links' play Tiger Woods was as well -- especially when Kisner bladed a shot from the sand and sent it ricocheting off the pin as his teammates ducked for cover "We honestly didn't think that anyone could possibly get hit in here," Woods said Woods was hoping viewers watched until the end; Homa suggested that Duke fans would still be watching since the Blue Devils were playing Miami on ESPN after the golf ended who walked with his son in a tournament last month looked like he was physically sound -- at least in the sense that he didn't seem to be holding anything back while swinging As far as the golf: "The walking's not the issue Williams sat in the Los Angeles box just to the right of the players' teeing areas enjoying the spectacle of the walk-out introductions "It's something that you see a little bit in tennis It's so good to kind of see their personalities and see them shine as golfers Information from The Associated Press was used in this report "It's like when you go into a restaurant and order a hamburger." Trent Still, the owner and director of California-based design studio Lahoma says as he walks me through the process of how his line of custom furniture is made on-demand Lahoma's strikingly beautiful furniture is a world apart from something as humble as a hamburger but there is something perfect about the metaphor Both items are highly customizable yet rely on a fundamental structure Parametric design allows Trent to automatically adjust Lahoma's core pieces for every customer's whim "I've been making things professionally for 15 years and there is not a single product that has democratized the future of making the same way that Fusion 360 has," he says why wouldn't I invest in something that democratizes my potential?" Need a coffee table that's just a little wider? A side table that's just a few inches taller? The parametric designs of Lahoma's Cove collection can be adjusted thousands of ways automatically generating the appropriate amount of supports and hardware to service both the structural and aesthetic demands of the design all of our pieces are confined parametrically," Trent notes "That means anytime we change one dimension it's referenced or linked to some other relevant information in the design." Lahoma is carving out a surprising niche in a crowded industry They're finding customers who are ready for designer furniture that's built to last but unwilling to spend a fortune on either off-the-shelf solutions or the sometimes stodgy look of traditional It's a market that has largely eluded furniture makers if only for the simple reason that the talent and training of local woodworkers can't scale to meet widespread demand while keeping prices down Lahoma's strategy is to use the tools and automation strategies typically reserved for the big guys "I call it consumer driven manufacturing or consumer input manufacturing because we're finally starting to get to this world where mass customization is actually attainable," Trent says But the bread and butter comes from the design and modeling space and its parity and interoperability with the manufacturing space." He's also quick to dispel the notion that this automation leads to an inferior product to have parts come off a machine with a surface that's ready for a finish to be applied." All this preparation and attention to process puts Lahoma in an enviable position with a manufacturing formula that has the potential to scale in a way most competitors can't Trent is proud to see that the level of automation afforded by designing and manufacturing with Fusion 360 allows him to create furniture he can be proud of at prices that are attainable compared to established designer brands It's a story that bears repeating to designers and fabricators in other industries could Fusion 360's parametric modeling and API enable customer-driven customizations for other products agile studios like Lahoma drive a renaissance in domestic custom manufacturing at competitive prices Time will tell if Lahoma's recipe for success can be replicated across other industries, but it's exciting to consider the possibilities -- a more personalized future made possible by smarter tools. Print LA JOLLA — The Farmers Insurance Open decided to embrace its breathtaking oceanside address and make everyone seasick during Saturday’s frenetic final round as all that leaderboard churn required an unblinking attention span and a fistful of Dramamine fuchsia-adjacent-joggers-wearing Sam Ryder and Max Homa for hours is that two-time Farmers winner Jason Day charging toward the top like a grumpy rhino Here comes win-starved fan favorite Rickie Fowler … and there he goes Is that Keegan Bradley draining three birdie putts in a five-hole stretch to rise from the pretzeled humanity in the chase When Collin Morikawa threatened to fist-pump his shoulder out of socket as he soared to 10 under on No the surfboard-snatching combinations in play would cause a safe cracker to sweat In the end, Homa — a San Diego-loving, Padres-loathing player seemingly destined to become the PGA Tour’s comedic voice — buckled in tightest, held on longest and withstood the rising and crashing competitive waves to become a Farmers champion. Sports The NFC championship game likely will come down to these strengths: the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line versus the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive front It was his sixth victory on Tour with two-thirds of those coming in his native California “Everybody else looks at me as a social media guy but I’m a pretty darn good golfer,” said Homa who began the day five strokes back and won by two at 13 under “The results help you kind of build that foundation I like to say dumb things and make dumb jokes and observe weird stuff and tweet about it The ride became a white-knuckler on the back nine of Torrey Pines’ routinely ruthless South Course Fates confidently strolled the center of shamrock-green fairways one minute Max Homa stands next to his wife and son Cam after winning the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines (Gregory Bull / Associated Press) “That,” Bradley said If you were one of the others swinging a club it more likely felt like the type of campy fun reserved for a visit with a tax attorney Ryder, searching for his first Tour victory and ranked No. 283 in the world, positioned himself to be the first wire-to-wire winner at The Farmers since Johnny Miller in 1982. Then came 15. Then came disaster averted, an appetizer for disaster realized. Holding a one-stroke lead and preparing to hit a second shot from the right-side rough, a club he pulled from the bag got caught up before falling and nearly making contact with his ball. Once Ryder exhaled, he chopped the ball out of the rough with a cocktail of enough force and awkwardness that he leg-kicked like a baseball pitcher. An ouch omen of epic proportions, for those scoring at home. The rough run in the rough torpedoed days of work as he fell off the top for good with a double bogey. The AFC title game Sunday is a rematch between the Cincinnati Bengals and host Kansas City Chiefs featuring quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes “Went for a tough shot and just a combination of bad shots and a couple bad breaks … It’s a very fine line between par and double bogey out here on this course.” The seemingly ocean-sized opening was enough for Homa to pounce He birdied 16 to retake a lead he would not surrender but no one got closer as the winner canned a birdie putt to put a bow on things Homa struggled more to fight emotions off the course while explaining the meaningfulness of the victory after he and wife Then the amusing wit that made Homa a Twitter star returned “This [will] be the best-smelling diaper I’ve changed so far,” Homa said in a post-round TV interview he underscored the unfiltered joy of being a new father while pocketing a check for $1,566,000 Life and livelihood intersected so unexpectedly that his face seemed a mix of elation and momentary shock (()=>{const e=document.getElementById("yt-img-heTzUKgdlvU");e&&e.addEventListener("load",(t=>{t.target.naturalWidth<=120&&(e.parentNode.children[0].srcset=e.parentNode.children[1].srcset=e.src)}),{once:!0})})() When the world stopped spinning for a brief second, diaper talk resumed. Amid the back-nine anarchy, Ryder remained mostly unflappable and positioned to hold serve until someone unlocked a way to leapfrog him. He never strayed away beyond 11-, 12- or 13-under until the fateful 15th. “It happens fast,” Ryder reasoned. “It is what it is.” When Homa, 32, birdied in front of his family parked at the edge of 18, only then did stomachs settle. The last five of his six Tour wins came in come-from-behind fashion. He’s gotten used to making uncomfortable situations feel comfortable. “I think I do a good job when I’m behind of one shot at a time and knowing that it’s a marathon,” Homa said. The thrilling, jaw-dropping, roller-coaster ride down the stretch left everyone involved a tad bit queasy. High School Sports Galaxy Dodgers Subscribe for unlimited accessSite Map The focus of many spectators at Riviera Country Club was Tiger Woods, who played his first meaningful golf since last year’s British Open before shifting into tournament host mode to present the championship trophy to Rahm, whose win was his third this year, fifth in his last nine worldwide starts and 10th on the PGA Tour. Woods shot two over par in the final round to finish one under, not an unimpressive accomplishment given his rust and a sore right ankle that had him limping a bit more each day and remains a reminder of his horrific car crash two years ago the day after this tournament. “It certainly was a little bit more difficult than I probably let on,” he said, smiling. “It usually takes me a few holes to kind of get back into the ebb and the flow of it. But then again the reality of it is I really won’t be able to play much. With a video of Tiger Woods playfully handing Justin Thomas a tampon after outdriving him going viral Woods apologized and barely made the cut at one over par but it’s just not — the body is sometimes saying no even though the mind says yes.” Woods said he planned to play in all four majors this year, beginning with the Masters in April. The U.S. Open will be held at the L.A. Country Club in June Expect Rahm to remain a force when the majors roll around after winning Sunday at 17-under-par 267. He won the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and vaulted to No 1 in the world rankings after winning the Memorial in 2020 who won the WM Phoenix Open a week ago but finished tied for 12th at Riviera “I’ve never had three PGA Tour wins in a season and to do it this early on is incredible and to do it at this golf course,” Rahm said “Talk about the history of Riviera as a golf course to be able to win a tournament hosted by Tiger and the one hosted by Jack [Nicklaus] as well Rahm was met a few steps beyond the green by his wife (()=>{const e=document.getElementById("yt-img-EFrzK_hNt2k");e&&e.addEventListener("load",(t=>{t.target.naturalWidth<=120&&(e.parentNode.children[0].srcset=e.parentNode.children[1].srcset=e.src)}),{once:!0})})() “Max battled out there and Patrick [Cantlay] gave us a scare,” Rahm said between kisses from his family. “To reach a milestone of double-digit wins is incredible. “I kept telling myself after [the bogey on] 12 that even though it was an unforced error, this is a really freaking difficult golf course to finish at. At that point you just have to change focus and stay positive.” Rahm took home $3.6 million, nearly $2 million more than the $1.625 million Homa earned by winning the Genesis in 2021. Why? The PGA Tour’s immediate answer to the threat of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour is to elevate the purses of 13 tournaments. The Genesis Invitational is one of those. “This is a big year for us, big year for the Tour and the commitment of the players to stay unified, to — we’re all working to make this Tour and our product the best we possibly can,” Woods said. “To have all the top players come and play these elevated events or designated events is very important.” Once Woods was done with his round, attention turned to Rahm, Homa and a hard-charging Cantlay. After bogeys on Nos. 10 and 12, Rahm trailed Homa by one stroke. Birdies on both par-three holes down the stretch calmed him. Homa bogeyed No. 13 and finished by scrambling for pars that enabled him to hold off third-place Cantlay, the former UCLA star who was 14 under for the tournament. Homa’s tee shots were errant, but he stayed in the hunt with excellent putting. He was 15 for 15 from four to eight feet in the tournament until missing from seven feet on No. 8. When Rahm slipped on Nos. 10 and 12, Homa seized the lead by one stroke. Jon Rahm pumps his fist after winning the Genesis Invitational on Sunday. (Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times) Rahm rebounded quickly, retaking the lead in two holes. Both golfers pulled their tee shots into the left rough on No. 13, but Rahm put his second shot on the green and Homa’s flew into a tree trunk, coming to rest 159 yards from the hole. On the par-three 14th Rahm made a 46-foot birdie putt and he picked up another stroke with a birdie on the par-three 16th after landing his tee shot less than three feet from the pin. Homa made a bold attempt to chip in for birdie on the 18th and fell to his knees when the ball banged off the pin. Homa, who grew up in Valencia and will spend Monday at the junior tournament he sponsors in Beaumont, became emotional afterward. “I’m very proud,” he said, fighting back tears. “I did not have it off the tee today, but man, I fought. I really just wanted to push [Rahm]. I don’t know why this is happening now, I’ve been fine for 15 minutes. “I wanted to push him. He is a spectacular golfer. I would say other than Tiger and I don’t even know, he’s the most consistent player I’ve seen.” Tiger Woods is understandably concerned about what is occurring in the Los Angeles area that continues to deal with wildfires and widespread destruction As the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational scheduled for next month in Pacific Palisades the 15-time major champion deflected a question about the event’s status saying “there are so many other things that are bigger than that.” Woods grew up near Anaheim and was joined Tuesday night at the SoFi Center by three others with Southern California ties during the TGL’s second match between his Jupiter Links team and the Los Angeles Golf Club Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala also grew up in the area I’ve known a couple of people who lost everything we’re just trying to figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward we’re not really focused on the tournament It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.” is where Woods made his PGA Tour debut in 1992 as an amateur The iconic venue will also host the 2026 U.S Open and the 2028 Olympic golf tournament as well as the 2031 U.S The course so far has not suffered any damage but it is on the periphery of considerable damage tournament officials and the PGA Tour are clearly looking into the possibility of staging the event elsewhere I know that these natural disasters happen far too often This is the first one I can remember where every news “I’ve had a lot of people ask me about the golf tournament No offense to Tiger and TGR (Tiger’s foundation) and Genesis but it seems silly at the moment to be overly focused on a golf tournament when people are still continuing to have this go on and living in a bit of fear in So Cal I’m just very happy that a lot of people have gotten out Theegala said he is returning to the area on Wednesday after spending the last two weeks in Hawaii playing the PGA Tour “I was in Honolulu last week and to be honest I was pretty distracted all week waiting on updates,” he said And I hope Carl doesn’t mind me sharing this but his sister’s house burned down and he stuck it through on my bag last week “It’s just crazy to have it hit so close to home It just feels like it’s happened too much in recent times.” The PGA Tour last week issued a statement about the Genesis Invitational saying it was monitoring the situation. That’s a special number in PGA history as only 11 players have ever broken 60. “But I remember I didn’t really make a lot of long putts,” Homa added. “I made a few good-sized mid-range putts, and I just felt like I was putting uphill all day. I did everything great, but I remember putting uphill all day. I birdied 14 through 17, which was awesome.” He then admitted he “hung on for dear life” during the next three rounds as LACC did not come as easy to him as it did when he shot 61. Even though that round happened a decade ago, and the course he played then will not mirror the U.S. Open conditions of this week, Homa feels that anyone who has played LACC before has the upper leg. “I do look at [having experience at LACC] as a bit of a boost,” Homa said. “All the guys who played the Pac-12s here, anybody who played here prior, it’s definitely a bit of an advantage.” Homa has yet to finish inside the top 10 at a major championship. If he does so at the 2023 U.S. Open, his hometown and local knowledge will prove advantageous. How much of a shot do you give Homa? Chime in on the comment section below. Oops. Something went wrong. Dodgers, Lakers, and me now."The L.A. kid wins in L.A. 🏆 pic.twitter.com/VcbUNu4KSM Homa’s tee shot was farther to the left, almost resting against the trunk of a Bottlebrush tree. He had to chop at the ball with a hooded 50-degree wedge to get it out, and put a little extra on it to get it up the slope through the sticky Kikuyu grass and onto the green. From there, both players two-putted for par. That was a cleansing moment for Homa, who needed to wash away the disappointment of missing a four-foot putt on 18 that would have won him the tournament. He and Finau hit for a few minutes on the range before the playoff, giving Homa some time to check his text messages. It turned out to be yet another disappointment for Finau, who has had more than 30 top-10 finishes since winning his first and only tour event, the Puerto Rico Open in 2016. He shot a 64 on Sunday with eight birdies and one bogey, and at one point had made 23 consecutive putts inside of 10 feet for the weekend. Likely more disappointed was Sam Burns, who was atop the leaderboard since the first round but stumbled on the back nine Sunday with three bogeys and surrendered the lead. He finished third at 11 under. “I didn’t drive it well enough to really score the last seven holes,” said Burns, still seeking his first win on tour. For more than four decades, Mark Russell has been the go-to guy on the PGA Tour for interpreting the rules. Asked where this victory ranks among his career achievements, Homa didn’t leave room for much else at the top. “1-A, 1-B, 1-C,” he said. “I don’t know if I could ever do anything cooler in golf than this. Just for me, for my caddie Joe [Greiner], we were raised 25 miles north of here. I mean, Tiger Woods is handing us a trophy, that’s a pretty crazy thought. We grew up idolizing him, idolizing Riviera Country Club, idolizing the golf tournament. To get it done, it’s almost shocking, but it just feels — it feels like it just can’t be topped just for me.” In keeping with his wife’s advice, he can forgive, but he’ll happily never forget. Honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his “long and distinguished reporting in the field of pro football,” Sam Farmer has covered the NFL for 25 seasons. Tiger Woods and Kevin Kisner see the funny side of their performance (Pic: TGL) Week two of the TGL brought another rout and this time it was an even more one-sided affair as Collin Morikawa Justin Rose and Sahith Theegala of the LA Golf Club annihilated Tiger Woods Max Homa and Kevin Kisner representing Jupiter Links raced to an early advantage after victories on the second and third holes – the latter coming with a hammer throw and acceptance – to go 3-UP after three meant hole four’s value would be doubled once more but it backfired and LA increased their advantage to five Jupiter Links got their first point on the board when Woods holed an eight-footer on the sixth hole but it would be the only time they’d land a meaningful blow and LA restored a five-point advantage when Rose canned a 14-footer for birdie on eight and they stretched their advantage to seven courtesy of another hammer victory on nine Woods and Rose faced off in the first hole of singles play and despite both teams throwing the hammer back and forth increasing the hole value to three-points the resulting tie in bogey-sixes meant victory was guaranteed for LA and the hammer now defunct It didn’t get any better from there for Woods’ side with Morikawa taking the next hole over Kisner and then LA winning each of the remaining three singles holes to complete a 12-1 victory That the highlight of the day came from Kevin Kisner who bladed a bunker shot that was destined to airmail the green by about 40 yards and have fans and high-cost equipment in severe jeopardy before clattering the pin and ending up greenside really says it all as the high-tech league took a major step back from the promise delivered on the opening night It was an extremely light-hearted moment and brought tears of laughter to all six players but that the most memorable moment was a horrendous shot speaks volumes “We were entertaining,” Woods said post-round Along with the decidedly poor play from Jupiter Links as a whole and Kisner in particular the accuracy of the technology came into question as both Woods Kisner and Morikawa at various stages appeared shocked as what they thought were well-struck shots came up either well short or well long and enthusiasm for the showdown between Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common and Woods’ Jupiter Links in a fortnight’s time has already dampened Subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest Irish Golfer news straight to your inbox document.getElementById("comment").setAttribute( "id" "a7ca545d1b0d100598d5d20d99d24507" );document.getElementById("a75f86a167").setAttribute( "id" and website in this browser for the next time I comment This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy & Terms of Service apply Address:Match Play Media LimitedThe Kinsealy GrangeChapel RoadPortmarnockCounty DublinD13 A5R2 Tel: +353-1-5036090+353-1-5036099Email: info@matchplaymedia.ie © Match Play Media 2018 – 2025 | All rights reserved. LahomaPalooza to united Oklahoma town, those named LahomaOklahomanLAHOMA — For the second year in a row, the little town of Lahoma will host its LahomaPalooza festival Saturday, celebrating the town and those sharing its name. Last year’s event drew about 700 attendees, including 16 with Lahoma as their first name, town mayor and event co-organizer Theresa Sharp said. Sharp has organized the events with Lahoma Police Chief Lloyd Cross. The idea began in 2008 when Florida teacher Lahoma McMillion drove through the town, which is just west of Enid, to see what it was all about. “I had never seen my name on anything and suddenly here I was in this little town with the same name,” McMillion said. “I went into the convenience store and had lunch with the locals. I fell in love with it. I spoke with the mayor, who said I was the first Lahoma to pass through and if I ever came back he’d throw me a parade.” Five years later McMillion touched base with Sharp and with the help of social media, Sharp, McMillion and Cross organized the town’s first public celebration since 1978. Town residents and Lahomas from across the nation have been raving about it since, Sharp said. Last year’s event featured pony and helicopter rides, a parade, fireworks, children’s face painting and vendors along Main Street selling handmade quilts, jewelery and fresh-squeezed lemonade. In addition to last year’s attractions, this year’s event will feature tractor pulls, monster truck rides and Old West-style gunfight re-enactments. The festival will kick off with a pancake and bacon breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Lahoma. Festivities will follow beginning at 10 a.m. on Main Street, Sharp said. For many who will attend the festival, Lahoma is a home away from home. “We had Lahomas come from California, Texas, New Mexico, New Hampshire and of course, Oklahoma, ages 30 to 99,” McMillion said of last year’s festival. “They all had their own story. We were all different and yet all the same. We all felt a little odd growing up, not sure of what our name meant or where we belonged. Then we came here and suddenly we belonged somewhere.” Lahoma was founded in 1894, after the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Land Run. Today the town is home to 600 residents and eight businesses, Sharp said. Most work in the agriculture or oil industries. They are expecting about 1,000 visitors. “I love that some people’s first impression of Oklahoma will be made here in Lahoma,” Sharp said. “And they’ll know us as friendly and welcoming people. But mostly what this is about for me is seeing this town come together. Hearing people get so excited to show off Lahoma and our state is what I love most.” A disturbing picture surfaced on social media of what appears to be inspired by the Ku Klux Klan.  The Garfield County sheriff said it was part of a "Halloween prank" in the town of Lahoma. What was almost as shocking as the picture itself was who deputies said was under the white hood. It was Cary Sharp wearing the white robe and hat last night. He is married to the Lahoma mayor Theresa Sharp. She was adamant she was nowhere near this party, away trick-or-treating with other family members.  But there were a lot of people upset about what her husband did. Cary Sharp was caught on camera dressed like a member of the Ku Klux Klan at a Halloween party on a property in Lahoma.  It was a bonfire and the photo shows torches and a cross but Cary Sharp and his friends insisted no cross was burned despite flames being visible behind it in the photo.  News 9 spoke with the woman who reported it to police and like many others, she was outraged by this and embarrassed for the community. Several other residents said they were ashamed that this kind of behavior happened among adults in their town. When News 9 caught up with Cary Sharp, he said they thought it would be funny to cut holes in sheets and dress up like a member of the KKK.  "Sit around the bonfire and drink a couple of beers and thought well my buddy his last name is White and the subject got brung (sic) up. We just thought it'd be something to do and it's not something to do," Cary Sharp said. "I am embarrassed. I've shamed my family and friends and I apologize for that." "I just don't condone it regardless of who it is whether it's my husband or Joe Smith around the corner. It's not anything that I think needs to be represented for our community at all," Lahoma mayor Theresa Sharp said.  The Garfield County sheriff said even though he and many others found it offensive, there were no laws broken. That night, the deputies asked the men to take off their costumes and put out the bonfire and they were compliant, Sheriff Jerry Niles said. The report will, however, be handed over to the DA's office for review. Be among the first to get breaking news, weather, and general news updates from News 9 delivered right to your inbox! The reach of the Los Angeles Dodgers with their fans stands amongst the best in all of Major League Baseball, with celebrities sporting team gear at red carpet events, to Professional Golf Association star Max Homa representing his team at the Waste Management Open in Phoenix, Arizona. Homa grew up in Valencia, California, and has never been shy about his passion for sports and his favorite teams. In recent years he’s fielded questions about Los Angeles Lakers all-time great Kobe Bryant, and dealt with playful jabs about the Dodgers’ postseasons misfortunes while on the course. The Waste Management Open is known for its rowdy crowds and incredibly fun atmosphere, especially the 16th hole. It’s become a tradition for fans to turn the 160-yard Par 3 into a rock concert atmosphere. Homa took this as an opportunity to sport his hometown team by wearing the signature blue Dodgers hat when he stepped onto the 16th.
