South Hayward is getting a new 39-acre hillside park
The new La Vista Park will take shape north of the extension of Tennyson Road east of Mission Boulevard and is planned as an active and passive recreation destination for the entire city—with 180-degree-plus San Francisco Bay views from a ridge trail
The park project will remake and reclaim for public use the old La Vista Quarry
It was originally planned as part of a 179-home subdivision next to the quarry by the quarry owner
As part the 2005 city approval of the development
DeSilva Gates is required to contribute up to $2.14 million to the now estimated $23.5 million cost of La Vista Park—but only incrementally as each new home is sold
The recreation district is committing voter-approved Measure F1 bond proceeds and the city is pledging park “in lieu” fees on several future real estate development projects
La Vista Park is located north of Tennyson Road and east of Mission Boulevard
The City of Hayward will oversee the building of the park with the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD)
Check out the park’s approved design (subject to change; refer to the Project Documents for detailed updates):

The 44-year-old school psychologist was arrested in March on accusations of child sex abuse
Papillion La Vista Public Schools officially fired former school psychologist Jeffrey Fauble Monday night
charged with four counts of child sex abuse
Sarpy County neighborhood reporter Greta Goede uncovered that before becoming a school psychologist
Fauble was a deputy Pottawatamie County Sheriff’s Office but he was later decertified after he was accused of having a relationship with a female inmate
This led to questions for the district about its background check procedures
They declined to answer our questions last month
board members asked questions about how the districts background checks could change to prevent this from happening again
“What can we do to be better so that this sort of thing does not happen again.”
there was an extended meeting with the company
as well as Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office to see how this could be prevented in the future
board members unanimously agreed to end Fauble's contract with the school

(WOWT) - La Vista Police are looking for a man they said escaped a home they had under surveillance after responding to a domestic violence report
LVPD has an arrest warrant for James Miller
The hours-long police standoff impacted a La Vista neighborhood on Thursday after police blocked off an area southwest of 72nd and Harrison
“in the interest of caution for all involved
the Sarpy County SWAT Team was called out to make entry into the house,” the LVPD release states
LVPD said the call came in at about 11:48 a.m
La Vista Police told First Alert 6 in an update at the scene that officers had responded to a disturbance at a home near James and Joseph avenues and that a man retreated into the residence
Police said then that they had been trying to establish contact with the man to get him to come out
but had blocked off about a block around the area in the meantime

(KMTV)– The city released results from a sound study done in October after noise complaints from last years concert season
The study gave suggestion to both the city and the venue on how to lower the noise
The Astro Amphitheater told KMTV it plans to work with the City of La Vista to lower noise levels from concerts
The stage points right at these homes a few hundred yards away
Adam Geisen who use to live in one of these homes before moving away due to the noise said it's nice to have proof of what he was experiencing
“I knew I wasn't crazy when I first talk to you guys,” he said
reporter Greta Goede went and sat in Geisen’s backyard to see how loud the music was the same night of the sound study
Geisen’s backyard decibels measured 70-75 while across the pond at the venue decibels were 80- 85
Although the city may not be able to enforce the changes that need to be made to lower the noise according to city spokesperson mitch Beaumont
the Astro is working with the city to lessen the volume at these homes
Contractors suggested lowering the speakers five feet
putting something around the speakers to direct the sound into the amphitheater and adding sound deadening material to the back of the stage wall
“They have indicated that they are going to establish some better expectations with the bands coming in ahead of time
telling them they need to keep it below this level,” Beaumont said
The city does not have an ordinance for sound levels
but it's possible the city and the astro could reach an agreement
he hopes this brings change for his old neighbors
“I’m not sure what I expect to come out of it
I just hope the people at the bottom of the hill who are getting blasted by the speakers are in a better position now,” he said
A spokesperson for the astro told me they are reviewing the sound study to find which recommendations can be done
right now this is no timeline for these changes
the city will be tracking complaints again this year to compare from last year
(WOWT) - Traffic lights are out at the Giles Road and South 96th Street intersection in La Vista
The reasons why lay just down the road: Poles snapped by the wind during Wednesday’s storm
“We don’t know exactly what time we lost power,” said Megan Shonka
Shonka’s bakery is located right next to the downed lines
the lights were out at her shop and Shonka was worried her refrigerated goods would spoil
She’s relieved her power is back on and she’s open
“This was pretty scary knowing the power poles were completely out
power lines were on the ground,” Shonka said
“We didn’t know we could get to the bakery to address it or fix the situation with our refrigeration.”
OPPD crews are outside trying to put the downed lines back up
They blocked off Giles road on both sides adding another headache to everyone nearby
“I was driving around a little bit today trying to run some errands,” Shonka said
Chrissy Stephens who works at Bloom at JB’s Salon is also having issues
“You’re trying to think wow I need to go here through the neighborhood and trying to remember where the other entrances are,” Stephens said
they have to take the long way around 108th street
“Nebraska weather is really up and down. You can’t really predict it all of the time
but for an entire street to be shut down — that’s a little shocking to me,” Larandeau said
The City of La Vista posted an update on the downed power lines on social media Thursday afternoon
They said OPPD didn’t anticipate repairs would be complete until Friday

Stanley Hall Elementary in the Papillion La Vista Community School District was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he sexually assaulted a child
A school psychologist is in jail after reports of child sexual assault
these charges do not involve students at PLCS and the district said Fauble was immediately put on administrative leave and is moving to formally fire him
Fauble was a psychology intern for the school during the 2023/2024 school year at Tara Heights Elementary and was hired on as a full time school psychologist this school year
This wasn’t the first school where fauble worked
Ralston public schools confirmed Fauble was a classroom paraprofessional for the district from December of 2019 to May of 2020
KMTV team also went through Pottawatomie County Board minutes from 2005
Fauble was a deputy with Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office starting in March of 2005 until he resigned in 2010
Fauble is being held in Douglas County Jail
(KMTV) – Adam Geisen didn't think he would be moving out of his La Vista home so soon
but after noise from the The Astro concert venue disrupted his everyday life he decided it was time to leave
When the new Astro Theater concert venue was built
La Vista city leaders believed it was going to be a reason neighbors came to this community but in some cases it forced neighbors out
KMTV investigated the impact of this venue not only on the people that live in its backyard but across the area
Adam Geisen didn't think he would be moving out of his La Vista home so soon
"Our kids grew up here and this was my first house I owned so a lot of emotions there," he said
A few years ago the city turned a quiet park behind his back gate into a concert venue
"I work from home and I’ve been told to put my computer on mute because my music is too loud but I’m not playing anything,” Geisen said
Geisen said sometimes sound checks for the concerts start at 10 a.m
and the music sometimes lasts until 10:30 p.m.
" You can hear it clearly inside her room all the way until 10 at night so you can't really put her to sleep easily," he said
He bought a decibel meter and measured 90 decibels one night
According to the National Institute on Deafness
prolonged exposure to that amount of noise can cause hearing damage
This is when Geisen took his concerns to the city
"I felt like they would say they're listening
"I think the final straw for me was I was putting in a lot of time and effort in getting my point across and no one was listening."
When asked if the city knew this would happen when it approved The Astro
the Spokesperson for the City of La Vista Mitch Beaumont said this:"We anticipated some complaints for sure
An outdoor venue at all in an established neighborhood
The city also revealed to KMTV it has received complaints from over 20 different locations during the 19 outdoor shows this season
"It's nice to know I’m not alone," Geisen said
KMTV discovered that La Vista noise ordinances here aren't measured by decibel levels and are instead limited by time of day
But the limits weren’t enough to stop this family from leaving
“I don’t want to be negative about the city because I like this city
"I’m not going to be here for the fix but I wanted to help my neighbors and others in the neighborhood and hopefully have something come of this," he said. Beaumont says the city will conduct a noise study during the season's last outdoor concert on Oct
18 to measure sound levels and then take measures to mitigate the sound in neighborhoods like Geisen’s
(KMTV) – Wednesday's blizzard brought high wind causing power lines to snap and fall into roadways
BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT: Customers finishing up lunch in the dark
after high winds and snow from the blizzard caused power outages in La Vista
assistant manager at Reffs Sports Bar said he opened the bar in the morning
tv has been on and off all day and then about a half later everything just went down,” he said
snapped power lines filled the road causing closures and traffic lights were out
Sarpy county road crews have been out all day addressing issues and if neighbors come across road hazards… they should report them online at sarpy.gov
(KMTV)– The pool is closing for the final time Labor Day weekend and is scheduled to be demolished in September to make room for an underpass
The La Vista city pool is scheduled to be demolished next month to make room for an underpass. It sits in the way of the city's new plans
The pool is in the way of connecting an underpass from Central Park to City Centre
and because the pool is in poor condition the city decided to demolish it and build a new one
Laura Wall moved in across the street in 1989
"The activity in the summer time I just really enjoy all the people coming
"They have to close it down quite a bit because there is problems with it since it is getting older,” Wall said
Other neighbors are excited to see what the city will do with the area and think the underpass is good idea
It is a pretty busy street so that will probably be a lot safer for everybody
Maybe a little commotion while it is getting built but I think a lot safer in the long run," neighbor Ryan Harm said
La Vista will build a new pool just to the west of the old one in an area they are calling Central Park West but the city doesn't know how quickly the new pool can be constructed so neighbors will be left without one for a while
The city is also unsure on when construction to the underpass will start
The pool will remain open on the weekends through Labor Day before closing for the final time
LINCOLN - For the first time in their 21-year school history
the Papillion-La Vista South Titans are heading to the State Championship game
holding the #1 overall seed in the tournament
took on the #4 Millard North Mustangs for the third time this season
Millard North started the Class A semifinal contest on a 7-0 run and controlled the early half of the first quarter
but Papillion-La Vista South quickly caught up to trail 17-16 at the end of one
The Titans continued a 13-3 scoring run from the end of the first quarter into the second quarter to jump ahead 22-17
The Mustangs scored the next four points with buckets from Deacon Courtney and Coriahnn Gallatin
but the Mustangs surged during the next four minutes
going on a 12-4 run to end the half and lead 34-25
Papillion-La Vista South's Bryson Bahl was nearly unstoppable in the first half of play
scoring 19 of his teams points in the first half
Millard North sparked the second half with a 14-4 run
taking a 39-38 lead on a Major Mosser triple that sent the crowd into chaos
Levi Webb laid in a put back to knot the game up at 42 with one quarter to play
Both teams continued to trade buckets in the final quarter
Millard North's Amari Rahaman drove to the basket for a tying lay-in
The Titans scored right away to lead by 4 points
but the Mustangs added another bucket with 6.6 left in the game to trail 59-57
Bryson Bahl nailed two free throws with 2.4 second left to ice the game as Papillion-La Vista South secured the 61-57 victory
Papillion-La Vista South awaits the winner of #2 Omaha Westside and #6 Lincoln Southeast
There were rumors circulating online. And then our friends at Creative Loafing made it official: Hooch & Hive, the beloved, cozy, bee-themed downtown spot for music, food, and drinks, was closing
In a statement to Creative Loafing Tampa Bay
Hooch and Hive’s “Spiritual Janitor” Dean Rosenberger wrote that the venue finds itself unable to continue in its current location
‘money talks,’ and we’ve reached a point where it is no longer sustainable to host live music here,” he added
was that the location was going to become a sports bar owned by Green Iguana parent company
On December 28th, I made the final drive down I-275 for one last night at Hooch & Hive. I was concerned that the Florida Maverick Artist Management event was going to be a somber affair
there were only a couple more party nights before they turned the sound system off for the last time
because the place was jumping and people were in good spirits as multiple acts raised their glasses to Hooch & Hive and talked about previous shows they’d played there
It was no accident that Hooch & Hive became such a great spot for small acts. As a matter of fact, Creative Loafing’s Ray Roa and crew documented its opening six years ago
stating that among high end noshes and wide selection of beverages
“…the owners have also promised a top-notch sound system (plus plans to book national acts)”
I talked to Frankie Consoli, guitarist of the local psyche rock band Florist
He was in charge of sound (and got on stage – see below)
I mixed the first show there and I’m gonna mix the last show there on Tuesday.”
One reason people loved go to Hooch & Hive is its intimate and laid-back vibe
The breezy open-air bar and the comically tiny stage feels personal
allowing fans to fully immerse themselves in the music
Another key factor behind Hooch & Hive’s popularity was its diverse lineup: from indie rock and alternative to hip-hop
This commitment to fostering local talent has earned it a reputation in the Tampa Bay music scene
drawing in fans who want to discover fresh
There is no denying – it is hard out there for the indie music scene. I talked with Joe Marquez of Lychee Camp, who performed that night
He said that the current incarnation of his band had their first show at Hooch and Hive and was concerned about the local arts community
It’s unfortunate that Hooch is closing—it feels like part of a bigger domino effect the arts community in Tampa has been dealing with for a while
The Orpheum had to leave Ybor a few years back
Tampa’s rising rents and cost of living are getting out of control
and the things that make the city unique are being erased
Live music will always exist—we’ll just all have to learn to adapt
A lot of people agree with him. With Ella’s Folk Art Cafe closing
there are not a lot small rooms to see music in central Tampa
New World and The Orpheum both left Ybor City and Crowbar’s fate is uncertain at best
More and more artists are breaking out on TikTok and skipping the years of club shows to go straight to arenas
Which means that they have never really learned that craft of performing
which historically has been a prime revenue source
a local music fan said “how disappointed she was that yet another independent live music venue has shut down to make way for more over development of soulless chain sports bars and restaurants
We have to support indie clubs whenever we can.”
Music can happen almost anywhere. The Independent has a great variety of music. As does Shuffle. Alternative places like The SPoT Skate Park of Tampa regularly hosts music
Justin Depth, who performed at Hooch the night before at the final Hooch Brokenmold event
but also encouraged fans to become more involved
With the closing and the moving and loss of other venues over the last few years
I feel like Tampa is going to have to start doing more DIY shows in more unconventional spaces due to the lack of a decent small to medium size venue
The community will undoubtedly have to come together to put on these shows and people truly need to step up and start/keep supporting local live music if they want to see these shows to continue to happen
but far too often do I see the people complaining about venues shuttering are the same people who don’t go to shows and participate in the scene
Venues open and close. Maybe Hooch & Hive can find a new location, as New World and The Orpheum did. Maybe not. Without it as venues like it, we do not get as much musical cross-pollination as when Frankie Consoli sat in with The Dirty Janes playing one of my all-time favorite songs, “Funk 49” by James Gang, as captured in the video below by Davied in the Crowd
Here are a few photos I took of the evening:

will have over 180 apartment units and 86 rental townhouses
The newest housing development project in La Vista is breaking ground
The15-acre development will bring 180 apartments units to the city but also 84 new townhomes
is something the city doesn't have and will offer neighbors something new
"This is going to be a development that a new family can move into or someone my age that is getting ready maybe to downsize and I don't want to do all the yard work and taking care of my property,” Kindig said
said Baby Boomers downsizing was something the company thought about when planning this development
“A lot of communities are having issues for empty nesters being able to move out their house and transition and stay in the community,” Vickery said
“They have these big homes and they don't want all that space but they want to stay in the community."
Kindig said this type of development was needed in La Vista
"The city of La Vista is landlocked so we don’t have unlimited ground
but we still want people to come here so for density reasons this fits perfect for this section of ground," Kindig said
Hubbell Realty has done similar projects in Iowa but this the company's first time bringing these developments to the Omaha area
"I think there is no doubt in our minds that this will be a great project
and it will fill up very quickly," Vickery said
Along with the townhomes and apartments… the $55 million project will also have a pool
The townhomes are expected to be finished in fall of 2025 and the whole development is expected to finish by summer 2026
(WOWT) - Three people were displaced in a fire at an apartment complex Thursday

The fire was extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze
(KMTV) — Congratulations to Kristine Wolfe
an elementary teacher who received a $500.00 check from our 3 News Now Pay it Forward Campaign with First Interstate Bank
“In addition to teaching general music to kindergarten through 6th grade students
Kristine Wolfe also teaches 6th grade Band
She has one of the most talented musicians she has has ever worked with this year
This student could really benefit from the opportunity to play several types of instruments which this teacher does not have the money to purchase for her classroom
Wolfe has so many talented musicians (both in Band & Music class) that would also benefit from experiencing a variety of instruments to help them grow their musicality
La Vista West is a lower social economic school so many of Mrs
Wolfe's students rarely have the opportunity to discover music and actually have their hands on actual instruments
Wolfe would use the Pay It Forward gift towards the purchase of new classroom instruments
This gift would open up the world of musicial arts to many deserving students...”

(WOWT) - The Omaha-metro got its turn in the 2024 presidential campaign spotlight this weekend with a visit from Tim Walz on Saturday
which was listed as “at capacity” on Thursday morning
Saturday’s campaign event also marked the return of Walz to his home state
and went to Chadron State College before heading to Alliance
There he followed in his father’s footsteps
working as a public school teacher and administrator
and they eventually left Nebraska to teach in her home state of Minnesota
The Democratic presidential campaign has been making note of Walz’s Nebraska roots
A 90-second campaign ad dropped by the “Harris For President” team earlier this month showed clips of Walz in the classroom
Walz says: “And I tried to teach my students what small town Nebraska taught me: respect
he first spoke to the crowd inside the Astro Theater
He then greeted the spillover crowd that was outside
“I just think it’s so exciting to be here and to have him support this state,” said Craig Kukuk
Some of those who attended say Walz’s Nebraska roots bring something to the Harris campaign that his running mate—who hails from California—lacks
“People are going to characterize California
I think she can’t be dismissed because she’s from the coast.”
“People who don’t want to see Trump in office again
they want to see a new person—or I think he’s the middle ground for people like that in Nebraska or the Midwest
Not everyone on site was supportive though
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators were calling for Harris and Walz to commit an arms embargo on Israel for its ongoing operations in Gaza
support an arms embargo,” said Nebraskans for Palestine organizer Karima Absy
“Our tax dollars are going to fund bombs and murder overseas
That money should be spent here in the U.S.”
Others protested the Biden-Harris administration’s stances on abortion and the border
“Why would we believe that she can close the border and keep us safe if she hasn’t done it under Biden’s administration?” said Julie Fredrickson of Omaha Patriots United
One Walz supporter said he felt Harris has already separated herself from Biden
in terms of supporting Palestinians,” Miller said
“I think that she has a very strong and analytical mind
Some at the rally said having Walz on the ticket is huge because they believe Nebraska will have a seat at the next presidential administration’s table

Papillion-La Vista South capped a dominating day of baseball Saturday by accomplishing a feat it hadn't achieved since 2010
The Titans defeated Millard West 8-1 to capture the Metro Conference baseball championship for the first time in 15 years
Papio South qualified for the final by blasting host Elkhorn South 13-1 in an earlier semifinal
That dominating 21-2 effort in the two games will put the 17-3 Titans in line for a boost in the upcoming baseball ratings
Coach Bill Lynam said his team played well following a 2-1 win over Omaha Central in Thursday's first round and a 6-2 victory over Omaha North in Friday's quarterfinal
"We got hot because we struggled in those first two games," he said
"Today was a new day and everything went our way."
The Titans got offensive production throughout the lineup as five players had at least one RBI
led the way with two and also pitched the final two innings
"It shows the work we put in during the offseason is paying off right now but it's not done yet."
The 10-9 Wildcats had a tougher road to the final
outlasting Papillion-La Vista 4-3 in a nine-inning semifinal played just before the championship
Papio South nicked Millard West starter Eli Hoge for a run in the third
stole second and took third on a wild pitch before scoring on Wallace's sacrifice fly
The Titans extended their lead with a four-run fourth
Mikey Jellen and Emmett Minderman each had RBI singles and another run scored on the back end of a double steal
After Millard West scored its only run in the fourth on a Sam Kidd sacrifice fly
Papio South scored a run in each of the last three innings
Cordell Clinkingbeard and Wallace had RBI singles and a third run scored on a balk
Jellen started for the Titans and pitched into the third inning before Brady Alderson threw the middle innings and Wallace the last two
Wallace said winning the Metro tournament shows the team is capable of much more
"There's young guys contributing and seniors doing their jobs
Millard West returns to action Monday on the road against Kearney
Papio South will play its next game Tuesday at Bellevue West

Six continuation high schools in Orange County have been named Model Continuation High Schools for 2025
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced Wednesday that 74 schools statewide earned the designation for their efforts in offering flexible scheduling
instructional strategies and counseling services tailored to students at risk of not graduating
“The priority of our Model Continuation High Schools is to give students more than a diploma,” Thurmond said
“The teachers and administrators aim to provide students with a student-centered approach that meets their diverse academic
social and emotional needs and opportunities to explore options beyond high school
preparing students for the future whether they choose to pursue further education or join the workforce.”
Continuation schools serve students who are behind on credits and at risk of not completing their education
providing them with alternative pathways to earn a high school diploma
There are currently 429 continuation high schools in California serving approximately 49,000 students
The Model Continuation program recognizes schools that offer exceptional academic and social opportunities for their students

(KMTV– The La Vista City Council passed the resolution o turn the City Centre into an Entertainment District
but this doesn't mean neighbors can drink on Main Street
Earlier this month the La Vista City Council passed the resolution to turn the City Centre into an Entertainment District
which allows for the consumption and sale of alcohol in common areas
The Astro concert venue would have to pull separate liquor licenses for every event in order to sell alcohol on city property
now only one will be needed for the upcoming concert season
"We created the entertainment district so there is only one liquor license for all those events
this is just a simplification of something that already existed,” said Mitch Beaumont
This doesn't mean neighbors can just walk around with open containers
The boundary of the Entertainment District is The Astro concert venue and the deck behind it
"What this does not allow is people to take a beer from the businesses and walk around main street with a beer
This resolution just creates less steps for the city and The Astro as it approaches the upcoming outdoor concert season
