The Lake Elsinore Storm struggled on the road
after winning over 60% of their games at home last season
many expected more of what 2024 brought when the team arrived for their first home game of the year
The past did not prove indicative of the future
The Storm fell to the Modesto Nuts by a final score of 8-4

He did not allow a single hit and only walked one batter
The Storm were able to grab a lead when Kasen Wells singled in Colton Vincent in the bottom of the second inning
the Storm's pitching did not continue Mayfield's dominance after he exited the game
Johan Moreno came in and immediately gave up a home run to Felnin Celesten
He would go on to give up three total runs in the fourth inning
and the Storm would never get closer than two runs for the rest of the game
the Storm got on the board again in the fifth inning
who has an OPS of 1.289 through the first four games
launched a double to centerfield to bring him home
Sean Barnett then hit a single to bring the score to 5-3
He would score the Storm's final two runs after launching a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning
This was only the second professional home run of his career

CA — While most Californians are familiar with notorious faults like the San Andreas
experts say far fewer know about the Elsinore Fault Zone — the source of Monday’s 5.2 magnitude earthquake
the Elsinore fault is part of a larger seismic area that experts fear more Southlanders should know about
The Elsinore fault is one of the largest seismic lines in Southern California
but historically it has been "one of the quietest," according to the SoCal Earthquake Data Center
It runs from Imperial County to the southwestern reaches of Riverside County
greatly affecting communities like Lake Elsinore and Temecula
The fault also runs through Julian in San Diego County
where Monday's earthquake struck just after 10 a.m.
rattling communities from San Diego to Los Angeles and places in between
where the fault splits into other segments
While the Laguna Salada fault — a southeastern extension of the Elsinore Fault Zone — ruptured in a magnitude 7 quake in 1892
the main trace of the Elsinore has only recorded one historical event stronger than Monday’s 5.2: a magnitude 6 earthquake in 1910 near Temescal Valley
which caused little damage and left no known surface rupture
the fault has been "quiet" for quite some time
but that dormancy is not one to be underestimated
The fault line is capable of unleashing a magnitude 7.8 earthquake
seismologist Lucy Jones told the Los Angeles Times
The Elsinore fault is one of the major risks in Southern California,” Jones told the newspaper
Geological Survey published a hypothetical scenario of a 7.8 earthquake erupting along the Elsinore fault zone that could bring "violent shaking" to Southern California
An earthquake of this size has not occurred in modern memory
The Southland's last 7.8 temblor struck in 1857 along the San Andreas
Monday's quake was a reminder of the long-dormant Elsinore fault's capabilities and the risk of the Big One
warned the Times of the risk of a Big One erupting along the Elsinore fault zone
“There’s some risk that it could be the next one,” she said
but we have this whole suite of active faults that are accumulating strain.”

Before the final chapter of the 2024 season is written
MiLB has announced the official schedule for the 2025 Lake Elsinore Storm
2025 has far fewer games played in July (2024: 15 2025: 9) and far more played in April & August (2024: 20 2025: 28)
the Storm faced the Los Angeles Dodgers affiliates (Rancho Cucamonga Quakes) at home 15 times and 30 times overall
they will face that same organization just nine times at home and 24 times overall

as they will play every team in the California League between six and 15 times at home
They will begin their season on the road in Rancho Cucamonga for a three-game series before their first home game on Tuesday
The Storm will celebrate Independence Day from Monday
July 3rd next season with home games against the Inland Empire 66ers

The Storm played in front of over 1,300 fans as they beat the Visalia Rawhide by a final score of 2-1
This win pushes them to the Championship Series with Game One set to be played at The Lake Elsinore Diamond on Sunday
It took just over two and a half hours to finalize this conclusion
It began with the Storm starting pitching and tonight's starter was the ideal choice for a closeout home game
Miguel Mendez was excellent in nearly every regular season home start this year
His 2.61 ERA in 10 games and 38 innings is far superior to his 4.95 road ERA
He had allowed four home runs on the road this season but not a single ballyard leaver at The Diamond of Lake Elsinore
He had an opponent batting average of .187 at home with 43 strikeouts
This was the player you wanted on the mound in this situation
He got through a scoreless first-inning but the Rawhide also saw two men reach base
Kai Roberts led the bottom of the same frame as he has in most games since August 6th
He then got on base as he has in most games since August 6th
He then proceeded to steal a base which he had done 14 times in those 24 games since August 6th
This set up a runner in scoring position with no outs
After a walk and a throwing error on a pick-off attempt
the kind of mistake you force other teams to make when you have Kai's speed
Ryan Jackson lifted a ball into left field which was just far enough to bring him home
Miguel Mendez cruised through the next two frames before trouble reared its head in the fourth inning
a throwing error put Angel Ortiz on first base
A subsequent single and throwing error put the tying run at third base
A walk loaded the bases before a sacrifice fly tied the game
Mendez would strike out the final batter of the frame
Mendez would ultimately end with five innings pitched
he flirted with an attempt to get through a sixth
he left two men on base and Kleiber Olmedo as his reliever
Druw Jones would be caught stealing third base
taking a man out of scoring position and drastically lowering the stress levels inside The Diamond
Olmedo would induce a lineout and strike out the next batter he saw
This lockdown performance would prove fortuitous as in the bottom of the sixth inning
Braedon Karpahios would send an opposite-field homer over the left field wall
This proved to be the winning run and much of the dugout would spill out to near home plate as Karpathios celebrated
Olmedo would keep the clamps on Visalia for two more innings before Tyson Neighbors was selected as the closer tonight
Neighbors induced a lineout before allowing a free pass
he needed just four more pitches to get the next two outs and the Storm celebrated on the pitcher's mound as they had become the California League's South Divison Champions
They will now face the Modesto Nuts as they are two wins away from a second California League Championship in three seasons
The first game of this series will be played in Lake Elsinore on Sunday at 1:15 PM

CA — Three Lake Elsinore men and one teenager have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder shooting that left a man injured in December
During an investigation conducted by the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station
deputies said they learned the four were part of a local street gang
20 and an unnamed 17-year-old — all Lake Elsinore residents — were arrested recently after warrants were served in February
The three men have been booked on conspiracy and attempted murder charges
Officials said gang-related enhancements will be sought for the case
the department received a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon
The man told police he was walking home from a local convenience store when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot
That's when the station's special enforcement team
along with the Region 4 Gang Task Force assumed the investigation
The law enforcement teams said Friday that they have "a zero-tolerance stance on all gang-related crime and it will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

On Friday night I covered the Lake Elsinore Storm’s 8-6 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
I spoke to their friendly pitching coach Pete Zamora
A laid back guy who is always generous with his time and discussions with me
Zamora was pleased to give an interview to me
Q: As far as you’re concerned, how do think Adrian Morejon is feeling at the moment
I know the injuries have probably been tough — So where do you and the rest of the coaching staff feel like he’s at right now
you know it’s just making sure everything’s okay
and it’s something pitchers get all the time
He’ll head back to Arizona and get some rehab there and from what I hear he looks to be throwing a little in instructional league
There’s nothing I’m too worried about
He’s got a smile on his face knowing that after all the results everything’s fine
He understands what he has to do when he is throwing and as he gets older
I mean — mechanics are gonna be quite a big part and he knows that
I think everyone is just happy that it’s not serious [Morejon’s injury].”
Q: How would you describe the pitching of Michel Baez
and was it always a case of him being able to move up to Double-A this season
A: “I thought the picture was for him to start here
We thought he was good enough to pitch in Double-A
and facts are facts that his mechanics were off when he showed up here
and he still was able to give us some quality starts
There were some mechanical flaws — some bad habits that maybe came back into play
Once we fixed those bad habits and he was able to repeat the good stuff
So he pieced together about four or five straight outings where we were like
Q: Is there something that, maybe guys like Bryan Mitchell or Carter Capps when he was here
His locker was next to Chris Paddack and he learned a ton from him
and the most important thing is your routine everyday and what you show up with everyday to become a big leaguer is to bust your ass everyday
You’re going to have some good outings and bad outings but it doesn’t change what you’re doing everyday work-wise
Reggie learned a lot from him [Chris Paddack].”
It was a very enlightening conversation with Zamora
in which I learned a good amount about the character of the players whom he has coached this season
He clearly knows a lot about baseball and how to approach the game as a player every day
In the bullpen before games he is largely observant
yet includes very specific information to his pitchers when necessary
He is working with some very talented pitchers that have thrown for the team
and he seems to have a strong understanding of what is making them successful or not
and Zamora is always a nice guy who clearly connects well with people
When we’re dealing with something as specific and sometimes delicate as pitching can be
it’s highly important to have someone like Zamora around to guide the young arms

Patch has reached out to the city for more information
The park at 20700 Cereal Street has been shuttered since November
The operators at the time shared on social media that the closure followed "a lawsuit from a tragic accident that occurred in June — the property owner has terminated our agreement as they are being brought into it as well."
Nine-year-old Brooke Carlton of Vista died June 2 at a local hospital following a same-day crash at the park
According to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station
Brooke was riding an electric motorbike at the park and was struck by another juvenile who was also riding an off-road motorbike
Brooke was unconscious when first responders arrived at the scene
The other child involved in the crash was treated at the scene for minor injuries
In the days following the park's closure, a lawyer representing the Carlton family told CBS they had not filed any lawsuit against the park
and the Lake Elsinore facility has been home to other fatal crashes

along with Malcolm Smith and many other famous riders from the late 1960s and early 1970s
"On Any Sunday" left a lasting impression on the city and millions of moviegoers

e-bikes would be prohibited on sidewalks and trails
CA — The Board of Supervisors Tuesday tentatively approved an ordinance restricting where electric bicycles can be operated
generally prohibiting them from being driven on pedestrian walkways
along sidewalks or on nature and equestrian trails in unincorporated communities throughout Riverside County
The E-Bike Safety Ordinance was drafted at the request of Supervisor Chuck Washington
who first raised the issue of potential conflicts with e-bikes back in September
"I've personally witnessed instances of unsafe behavior by riders and those around them," Washington said ahead of the 5-0 vote Tuesday
riders have a responsibility to ensure the bikes are used safely and responsibly."
which is slated to be formally approved after a second reading on May 6
replicates similar ordinances passed in municipalities and other counties statewide
It classifies e-bikes as pedal-driven motorized two-wheelers that generally rely on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for power
which kicks in when riders have reached speeds of at least 20 mph
aiding the bicyclists in gaining and maintaining momentum
along with Supervisors Manuel Perez and Karen Spiegel
all observed that the bikes are becoming more and more popular
"I see them coming up and down Highway 74," Perez said
Washington's initial concern was over the bikes' growing presence on Temecula Valley Wine Country trails
as well as outdoor recreational sites favored by horse enthusiasts
the ordinance would apply to unincorporated areas countywide
signage must be posted on sidewalks and trails notifying entrants of the county prohibition
Some usage would be allowed on sidewalks where there are no designated bicycle paths along roadways
The only requirement would be that e-bikers obey all traffic laws and ensure safe passage to avoid conflicts with pedestrians
Similar restrictions already apply to mopeds and other motor-driven cycles
Violators could be issued citations carrying fines of $100 to $500
depending on the number of infractions that occur in a year's time

Gavin Newsom's order for local governments to "urgently" address homeless encampments
Riverside County has received $12.6 million in state funding to assist those living along the Murrieta Creek Trail
"We are honored to receive this award from the state," a spokesperson from the County of Riverside Housing Workforce Solutions told Patch
The funding will provide direct housing assistance for 100 people and cover the cost of interim shelter
To ensure that those displaced from encampments get wraparound care such as case management
the funding will also go toward building a new multidisciplinary team of various county departments
Two other encampment resolution funding awards went toward addressing the Santa Ana and San Jacinto Riverbeds
The county says more than 80% of people served in the past have remained housed for more than three years
The Inland Empire was collectively awarded some $34 million to help clear encampments on the heels of Newsom's executive order for encampments to be cleared across the state
Newsom awarded $131 million for two dozen cities and counties to address encampments with stricter measures
"We’re supporting local communities’ efforts to get people out of encampments and connected with care and housing across the state," Newsom said earlier this month
"The state has committed more than $27 billion to help local governments tackle the homelessness crisis — and we want to see $27 billion worth of results."
Here's how the state funding was distributed in the Inland Empire:
The news comes as the city of Riverside passed a local ordinance on Tuesday
outlawing encampments in most public spaces
The proposal for the ordinance came after the U.S
Supreme Court decided on June 28 that local governments could arrest people camping or sleeping on public property — even if there weren't enough shelter beds available for them
"We have enough research to know that we cannot criminalize our way out of the crisis
We have enough experience to know what happens when we sweep encampments and tag tents in our city," said Dr

If you're looking to make reservations for dinner
the following restaurants near Lake Elsinore will be open on New Year's Eve
The following bars will also be open on New Year's Eve:
The transition from one year to the next is often marked by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” a Scottish folk song whose title roughly translates to “days gone by,” according to Encyclopedia Britannica and History.com
The tradition of New Year’s resolutions dates back 8,000 years to ancient Babylonians
who made promises to return borrowed items and repay debts at the beginning of the new year
which was in mid-March when they planted their crops
the pagan gods would grant them favor in the coming year
Many secular New Year’s resolutions focus on imagining new
The failure rate of New Year’s resolutions is about 80 percent
but a big one is they’re made out of remorse — for gaining weight
for example — and aren’t accompanied by a shift in attitude or a plan for coping with the stress and discomfort that comes with changing a habit or condition

The first inning of tonight's game is how many innings have looked since the team was overturned and 8 new position players were brought together over one month ago
This set up a dominant win for the Lake Elsinore Storm in game one of the California League Divisional Series over the Visalia Rawhide
who was added to the Storm roster on August 6th
would bring him home with a double of his own
He got on base three times and was brought to Lake Elsinore on July 26th
Braedon Karpathios would then come to the plate as one of the rare individuals who has been with the team all season long
His single would bring in King and the throw to the plate would go awry
striking the Rawhide's starting pitcher in the head
This was deemed a serious enough hit for the Visalia training staff to have Wilkin Paredes removed from the ballgame
would come in and allow a walk to Ryan Jackson
then slammed a double to bring both Jackson and Karpathios home
This four-run lead was only the beginning but it spelled the end for the Rawhide
The home team would get as close as a two-run deficit but that was quickly erased with a three-run inning in the top of the sixth by the Storm
The Lake Elsinore offense was so patient (8 walks) and prolific (13 hits) that they had more mult-run innings (4) than innings where they failed to score a run tonight (3)
This was the product of consistently intelligent at bats that forced the Rawhid to use eight different pitchers
The Storm offense is now a product of transactional moves made from July 26th to August 20th with many being recent Padres top draft picks
The following players were added in this period and how they performed in Game One tonight:
· Brandon Butterworth transferred from ACL to Lake Elsinore (1-3 2 R
· Brendan Durfee transferred from ACL to Lake Elsinore (2-7 1 RBI)
· Jack Costello transferred from ACL to Lake Elsinore (1-6 1 RBI)
