That's according to an economic study done by the group
led by the Copperline Partners hotel company
with offices in West Palm Beach and the Northeast U.S.
owns the luxury Brazilian Court hotel in Palm Beach
The proposed new projects for Lake Worth Beach will provide $59 million in wages and 973 permanent jobs once they are built
according to the report by PFM Financial Advisors in Orlando
The City of Lake Worth Beach also will benefit to the tune of $2 million annually in new tax revenues
More: Group wants Hyatt hotel on Lake Worth Beach land, plus golf course redone by Jack Nicklaus
More: Gulfstream Hotel finally changes hands. What's next for this historic Lake Worth Beach property?
Copperline sent an unsolicited proposal to the city proposing a public-private partnership that it said would bring new life to aged or underused properties in prime city-owned locations
which would be built at no cost to city residents
would attract tourist dollars that could be used to make needed road repairs and address other infrastructure needs
The projects also would boost area businesses
The redevelopment plan now has a name, HORIZON, which stands for "hotels, ocean access and sustainability, recreation, inclusive spaces and zest for life." A new website and new renderings describe HORIZON in greater detail
The website includes a section that answers questions about existing Lake Worth Beach properties
That discussion includes the fate of the historic casino building and whether the beaches and golf course will stay open to the public
The group says nothing will happen to the casino building
and the beaches and golf course will remain public
The redevelopment effort bills itself as a "harmonious balance" between recreation and sustainability that will elevate Lake Worth Beach into a destination for residents and visitors
Details of the plan include new hotels plus Jack Nicklaus courseAccording to the proposal
The city's shuttered municipal swimming pool at the beach would disappear
and a new pool and recreation center would be built at the city's Northwest Park
The city's municipal pool at the casino and beach complex has been closed since at least 2016
And the golf course is in need of repair to offset partial flooding caused by the rise in sea levels
other partners in the proposed venture include Nicklaus' new design company
1JN; Hyatt Hotels Worldwide; Fortress Investments of New York; and Stiles Construction of Fort Lauderdale
Nicklaus said he was "honored" to be part of the group and he stressed his longtime roots in Palm Beach County
which he said his family has called home for nearly 60 years
Nicklaus added: ”Our goal with the redesign of Lake Worth Beach Golf Club is to create a world-class golf experience that’s accessible to everyone — residents
the city has been studying how to handle the unsolicited public-private proposal
It held a workshop in March to go over the process
The City Commission is expected to discuss how to handle unsolicited proposals at a meeting in May
This proposed public-private partnership would keep the land under city ownership
but the development partners would hold various land leases with the city
Lake Worth Beach Mayor Betty Resch has said the public's input will have "a major role" in the city's consideration of the proposal
Backers of HORIZON are eager to see city officials advance their plan
They even commissioned the economic report to demonstrate what they said will be a benefit to the city if they are allowed to revamp city-owned properties into tourism and business destinations
In addition to a boost from the permanent facilities
the projects' construction will generate $481.7 million in economic "output," and create 1,857 jobs
The HORIZON proposal isn't the first proposal for redoing land at or around the Lake Worth Beach casino and pool complex
city residents have not been fans of real estate development
and prior attempts to build on city-owned land have been shot down
With the COVID pandemic migration to Palm Beach County, billions of dollars have poured into the area from investors eager to own or build new residences
West Palm Beach is out of large blocks of land
and investment groups with big money are looking south to Lake Worth Beach for new development possibilities
In addition, many Lake Worth Beach residents are looking forward to at least some revitalization of the downtown with the renovation of the historic Gulfstream Hotel
across from the Intracoastal Waterway and Bryant Park

It needs to be determined how far that permit range is going to go."

LAKE WORTH BEACH — Pride Weekend took place this past weekend with a festival and parade that ended at Bryant Park, where thousands mingled, danced and celebrated under cloudy skies that illustrated the menacing climate the LGBTQ+ community faces across the country
Colorful pride flags flapped in the wind at businesses and along roads in Lake Worth Beach
commemorating the two-day event that faces a range of financial and political threats
the executive director of Compass Community Center
said the center's finances could take a significant hit if the federal government pulls back on grant funding that helps pay for its work providing health-care testing and other programming for those in the LGBTQ+ community
Compass has organized the Pride event with backing from community group sponsors
whose funds are also under threat as President Donald Trump's administration attempts to pull back from tens of millions in grant commitments
This year's event was about $21,000 more expensive than it was in the past, Seaver said, as Compass followed law enforcement's suggestion that it use new, special road barriers to prevent a repeat of the January 1 attack in New Orleans
where a man in a pickup truck plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street and killed 15 people
Seaver said organizers have not wanted to increase the $10 and $12 admission prices in order to keep the event as accessible as possible
But with security and entertainment costs rising and with the financial threat to some of the event's sponsors
"we're going to have to make some hard choices next year," she said
is that a patron steps forward to help cover the $20,000 cost for the parade and the $50,000 to $60,000 cost for the festival
Getting additional corporate support could prove challenging in the current political climate
Ron DeSantis and Trump have attacked diversity
equity and inclusion programs in government and private industry
They argue that such programs shift focus away from merit while supporters see them as important efforts to make sure people from marginalized communities are included in job candidate pools and that their views are taken into account as policy is formulated
Criticism of transgender people was one of the themes that animated Trump's campaign last year
LGBTQ+ community members have not failed to notice what they view as attacks on their very existence
"That is why we need Pride this year," Seaver said
Many of those who attended the Palm Beach Pride festival Saturday agreed
"I need to be around my fellow community members
especially in times like this," said 38-year-old Silvia Silvestri of Loxahatchee Groves
"Coming here is a chance to be myself and also to meet like-minded people."
Silvestri said she fears that presenting herself as a woman would put her in danger
"I still present as a male to society for my safety," she said
said the anger directed toward those in the LGBTQ+ community is palpable
"I have friends all over the world," said Contreras
who is straight and married to a woman who is bisexual
"A lot of them are saying the same thing: they're scared for us."
That fear has led many to Ellie Mental Health
a Lake Worth Beach clinic that provides counseling for people dealing with trauma
Ellie Mental Health was a vendor at Saturday's festival
with staff members handing out fliers and answering questions from those who stopped by
"Mental health support is very important right now," said Gabriella Hernandes
a counselor who staffed Ellie's table along with fellow counselor Amaranta Bretas
Both counselors said the feeling of being attacked and discredited is acute among the LGBTQ+ patients they treat
we're the only place where they can open up," Hernandes said
said the vitriol seems stronger in news coverage from other places outside Palm Beach County
said Pride remains an important opportunity to have fun and be together
"We fought all these years for equality and to not be judged or discriminated against," he said
— Malfunctions on the Lake Worth bridge are causing unwanted traffic for many Palm Beach County drivers
half of the lanes on the bridge have been closed due to a malfunction
WPTV is listening to Palm Beach residents who are frustrated and are looking for answers as their commute times have doubled
Dave Kaminer lives in the Town of Palm Beach and said this problem comes and goes

we couldn’t go north of Southern Boulevard," Kaminer said
we're prisoners on this great island paradise."
Kaminer is demanding solutions and he’s not alone
John Kaufman commutes from the island and says traffic has been inconvenient
"It took about 40 minutes to get back from Congress the other day," Kaufman said
Residents added nearby construction has only made matters worse
as the Palm Beach International Boat Show is coming up this weekend
FDOT said in a statement that the issue could persist for another month
"It's easier to get the astronauts back from space than it is to get here on Palm Beach from Lake Worth Beach," Kaminer said

has long been considered a centerpiece of downtown Lake Worth Beach
Plans to renovate the hotel were first approved by the city years ago
but progress was repeatedly stalled due to lawsuits
with the exterior structure reinforced and supplies already ordered
Cassenti said the restoration is moving forward on a tight but steady timeline
"We're expected to have a soft opening by the end of this year and a grand opening by early 2026," he said
The project, largely funded by the city's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), briefly faced concerns over proposed legislation in Tallahassee that would eliminate CRAs statewide
the project is still on track—despite the lingering uncertainty and challenges like tariffs on construction materials
the Gulfstream Hotel will feature a restaurant
and other upscale amenities—all while maintaining the building's original Mediterranean Revival architecture

Cassenti believes the revitalized hotel will be a major boost to the local economy
bringing new jobs and giving visitors more reasons to stay and explore
"All these houses and cottages in certain places
they're rented to people who come from out of state to see Florida," said longtime resident Tommy Reese
Other neighbors said they're just excited to see movement after so many years
and having seen it empty—as a place that used to have activity and music—this feels long overdue," said Vincent Cerniglia
residents can expect visible progress at the site
and general clean-up efforts are all underway—and by the end of the summer
locals should start to see dramatic changes
LAKE WORTH BEACH — Former tech businessman Anthony Segrich will represent downtown and the city's southeastern neighborhoods on the City Commission after defeating Realtor Greg Richter in a special election Tuesday
running on promises to cut regulations to speed up construction and development
unofficial results with all precincts reporting to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections showed Tuesday evening
along with all neighborhoods south of Lake Avenue and east of Dixie Highway
Both men had wanted to tackle housing affordability by speeding up construction and development
Segrich had said he wanted to cut redundant building code regulations without sacrificing safety or efficiency
speed up permitting and construction without sacrificing ecological protections and limit impact fees
which make developers pay the city for services it must provide
He also wants to speed up development for projects whose plans already conform to what is allowed to be built on its land
Segrich has said he wants to incentivize the installation of solar panels and the capturing of rainwater
He has also promised to have an audit of the $89 billion utility bond that has not been audited since 2023
Segrich and Richter got the first- and second-most votes in the March 13 City Commission election
Incumbent Reinaldo Diaz finished third on March 13
Richter also ran on promises to speed up the permitting process so housing can be built faster
he said he wanted to look into selling water to other municipalities or the county so the costs of running the water utility would be shared by more customers than Lake Worth Beach residents
Richter had also said he wanted to make code enforcement less frustrating for residents and business owners
He supported building a parking garage downtown
with apartments above the proposed Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A 17-year-old died after being caught in a rip current Saturday at the Lake Worth Beach Pier
Two others — a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old — were also pulled from the water and remain hospitalized in stable condition
WATCH BELOW: How teaching water safety at an early age can save lives
The names of those involved have not been publicly released
The incident is another tragic reminder of the dangers posed by Florida's waterways
Ja'Quon Madaris, 16, drowned last summer in the St
attended a water safety event in his honor in Port St
hosted by Empowered PBG at the Ravenswood Pool
focused on water safety awareness and drowning prevention
but we want to make sure they're safe as well," said William Martinez of Empowered PBG
Martinez partnered with Water Babies Swim Lessons to offer free instruction to families
teaching fundamental water survival skills
"Literally life-saving," said Whitney Lerman
"Even something as simple as teaching someone how to roll into a back float when they get tired in the water
Lerman emphasized that the techniques apply in both pools and open water
"Even the smallest skills can make the biggest difference," she said
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Saturday's drowning in Lake Worth Beach
Lake Worth Beach should not have approved an agreement to grant Palm Beach access to its coastline for a South End dune nourishment project
Lake Worth Beach Mayor Betty Resch said last week
and she made the case that it wasn't simply a change of heart
Resch's presence at the council's meeting was in response to a town staff memo that said Lake Worth had reneged on the deal
“It sounds like we just changed our mind,” Resch said
Her presence in Palm Beach followed appearances by Mayor Danielle Moore, Town Engineer Patricia Strayer and Assistant Director of Public Works Jason Debrincat at Lake Worth Beach’s Dec. 12 commission meeting
city commissioners and residents alike excoriated Palm Beach for its plan to run trucks filled with sand through a 10-foot patch of sand running along the Lake Worth Beach Municipal Beach
The town's plan to use the 10-foot patch had been a workaround to a controversy that began after the Lake Worth Beach City Commission's Dec
3 vote to approve an interlocal beach access agreement that would have guaranteed Palm Beach coastline access via a concrete road at Lake Worth's municipal beach
Palm Beach would have donated $80,000 to the city
former Lake Worth Beach city commissioner Cara Jennings notified city officials of a 2009 voter-approved revision to its city charter that bans all nourishment activities at its municipal beach
“We were unaware of it because it was never codified by the city clerk at that time,” Resch told the Palm Beach council
town staff have contended that Palm Beach has the right to use the 10-foot a portion of land to move its trucks
That's because of a 1935 state law that carved out the strip of waterfront between the mean high-water mark and Lake Worth Beach’s boundaries to connect Palm Beach’s land north and south of the municipal beach
Town Attorney Joanne O'Connor also noted during the Jan
14 meeting that while the 2009 referendum prohibits beach nourishment and dredging projects at the city's municipal beach
which are managed through a completely different system
Resch said Lake Worth Beach attorneys have a different perspective
but that the legal discussion can continue when the city's attorneys meet with O'Connor
Resch said the town can expect stiff resistance from Lake Worth Beach residents
“I know that my citizens are a vocal and interesting group ..
it’s not going to go well in terms of public participation,” she said
Since that patch travels under the Lake Worth Beach Pier
Resch also voiced concerns over the impact vibrations from the trucks' moving could have on the pier
She also noted the project's potential impact to local businesses
and the economic impact (to local businesses) will be horrendous," she said
The town has tried to look for another option
including a potential access point at Lantana
there's not enough dry beach at that location for the trucks to safely travel
because we're so late on this project," Blouin said
With the project currently undergoing its first phase
which involves stockpiling and pumping sand onto the beach at Phipps Ocean Park
Blouin said that he and Moore will meet with their Lake Worth Beach counterparts before the start of the project's second phase
That's when the trucks will disperse the stockpiled sand from Sloan's Curve south to the Lantana Municipal Beach
"We have to collaborate and be reasonable with each other
and try to come up with a viable solution for the Town of Palm Beach and the City of Lake Worth," Blouin said
You leave us with no other option than a legal option ..
If Palm Beach has to use the 10-foot patch of land
the town plans to ensure the project is done as safely as possible
"I cannot imagine how that physically is going to work," Resch said in reference to trucks driving under the Lake Worth Pier
While she hopes Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach can find another solution
she doesn’t “know if there will be a solution that's going to involve Lake Worth Beach.”
The Town Council and Resch agreed that they did not want to see the relationship between the municipal bodies deteriorate
"I realize that you still have people in your town that are angry
but I think if we can solve this issue between us in an amicable manner
then things will fall in place after that," Council Member Lew Crampton said

Editor's Note: This story has been updated to an earlier omission in the District 4 race
A fulltime city manager to do that work would help
The Palm Beach Post Editorial Board recommends voters elect Carla Blockson to the District 2 seat and re-elect District 4 Commissioner Reinaldo Diaz in hopes of taking Lake Worth Beach in a better direction
This is not Blockson's first rodeo. This contest between Blockson and incumbent Christopher McVoy marks the third time the two have faced each other for the right to represent Lake Worth Beach's District 2
voters should make sure Blockson wins the race
After considering her position on the city's chief issues
the Post Editorial Board believes right now she's the better choice
Palm Beach Post Editorial Board endorsements for March 11 municipal elections
she has served on the Lake Worth Beach's Community Redevelopment Agency and as chair
she has overseen several grants and key projects along the city's Dixie Highway corridor -- including the proposed Weiner Museum of Decorative Arts
she would bring a pro-business approach to the dais in support of attracting more commercial development to boost city tax revenue and make the city more of an attraction
She'd also work to improve traffic congestion along 10th Avenue North in her northwest district
Commissioner McVoy is the district's current commissioner
His status quo-stance on the city manager's position strikes the board as counterproductive
voters should choose Blockson for the District 2 seat
Incumbent Lake Worth Beach Commissioner Diaz represents the city's southeast quadrant
which includes Lake Worth Beach's only oceanfront tract
The Post Editorial Board recommends voters re-elect him to another term
with the following caveat: Lake Worth Beach needs a full-time city manager
a task the next city commission must address sooner rather than later
has tried to bring administrative changes to City Hall
in hopes of putting the city in a better position to address ongoing legal and development issues
He has also been thrust into the ongoing immigration controversy
threading the needle in protecting the city's growing Hispanic population
continuing to attract revenue from Tallahassee while abiding by punitive state deportation laws and federal dictates
Diaz would like to establish a more effective growth policy that would put the city in a better position to review and track ongoing projects
Still, the commissioner's take on leaving Jamie Brown, Lake Worth Beach's current public works director, to somehow balance that job with working as the city's "interim" manager, is well, troubling. Diaz believes Brown is doing a better job than his predecessor that the commission removed in 2024
So start the process that leads to Brown being hired to the job on a permanent basis
There are many projects that need a full-time city manager's attention
including the city's long unused pool that sits near the beach in the commissioner's district
but the Post Editorial Board believes that Diaz's performance to date makes him the better candidate in the race
49 an owner of a water mitigation and mold remediation company is the fourth candidate in this race

One of the city’s water towers is set to be demolished
78 years later the water tower that sits on the corner of 22nd Avenue North and North D Street in Lake Worth Beach will be no more
While it’s not been in use since Aug of 2023
neighbors in the area say it’s been a navigational point for years
cite safety concerns for the final decision to tear it down
“There was an issue with a piece of metal that broke off of it
and the city of Lake Worth came over and fixed that,” said Seaman
The safety concern is one of many reasons why Lake Worth Beach Water Plant Manager Garry Baker says it has to go
“I’ve gotten reports that it sounds like church bells going off
and that’s actually the wind rods that are up there deteriorating
If someone happens to be around the area and they do
they could get impaled by one of them,” said Baker
“We don’t get proper turnover on the tower
The city will continue to use its other tower near 6th Avenue
Residents can also anticipate closures in the area
What happens next with the vacant lot left behind will be up to the city commission
but Baker says he was told it will be repurposed to benefit the community

you can still cruise along Downtown Lake Worth Beach and find free public parking — usually with a 4-hour time limit
But rising demand for parking and a lack of available spaces could force visitors and residents to pay
The long-time free parking perk along Lake and Lucerne Avenues could soon end as city commissioners consider a paid parking plan and a possible garage for areas with the high parking demand
During a Dec. 3 commission meeting
Lake Worth Beach Mayor Betty Resch said it could be a huge change for residents
"We know this is going to be a jarring piece of news for residents," said Resch
"because they’re not used to having to pay."
The considerations are part of an update to a 2018 study that recommends boosting downtown street parking availability and generating millions in revenue

an outside consultancy firm working with the city
It suggests lower fees with longer limits in off-street areas
and causing overflow into surrounding neighborhoods,” the report explained
“We recommend reducing the current 4-hour time limits in the Lake and Lucerne corridor (from J to M Streets) to 2 or 3-hour time limits with fees to ensure appropriate turnover of spaces for the area with the highest parking demand.”
Commissioner Sarah Malega wants to expand the plan beyond downtown — and add more ADA parking spaces
electric vehicle charging stations and a resident decal parking system
not just from Dixie Highway to Federal Highway
the same thing with the resident parking," Malega said
"When you have small houses that have 15 people living in them
There’re on the roads and you can’t get down the street."
The updated 2024 plan also includes discussion surrounding a 4-level parking garage on S K St that could provide a total of 268 parking spaces
“almost doubling the City’s remaining off-street parking supply,” according to the report
The City operates paid parking meters at the beach
The experts recommend expanding the beach program to include the downtown area — $3.00/hour for on-street parking rates for the Lake/Lucerne corridor (172 spaces) and $2.50/hour for various side streets (308 Spaces)
enforcement would take place 7 days/week from 9AM-9PM
Lake Worth commissioners said they will seek public input before finalizing plans
Tensions are rising between the Town of Palm Beach and the City of Lake Worth Beach over sand
As Palm Beach begins its Phipps Ocean Park Beach Nourishment Project to replenish the coastline from Sloan's Curve to the Lantana Municipal Beach, Lake Worth Beach is attempting to overturn an agreement that guaranteed the project access through its municipal beach
Palm Beach had agreed to make an $80,000 donation to improve the facilities at Lake Worth's municipal beach
The move comes after Lake Worth Beach officials were notified last week by former commissioner Cara Jennings of a 2009 voter-approved revision to its city charter that bans all beach nourishment activities at the city's public beach
the provision had not been added to the city's charter document Lake Worth Commissioner Christopher McVoy told the Daily News on Monday
"It prohibits Lake Worth Beach from doing beach nourishment projects
but it also explicitly prohibits the use of our beach for any other nourishment projects
Though Lake Worth Beach commissioners approved the agreement with Palm Beach during its Dec
they are now seeking to reverse their decision because it violates the city charter
Palm Beach staff told their Lake Worth counterparts during a meeting that it's the state
that has the rights to a 10-foot strip below the beach's tideline
which the town will use to transport the sand along the coastline
"On the argument that they have the right to use that strip
I would only hope that the town of Palm Beach is considering the PR aspect of that
because it doesn't look very good," McVoy said
Palm Beach Deputy Town Manager Bob Miracle told the Daily News Monday that the town would continue to discuss with Lake Worth Beach how it can retain beach access for the renourishment project
The agreement has already resulted in an eruption of online criticism from Lake Worth Beach residents
many of whom say the project will disrupt the beach during the height of the tourism season
which would add sand to Palm Beach's coastline
as well as that of Lake Worth Beach and South Palm Beach "really helps everyone," Miracle said
Lake Worth Beach officials will discuss the agreement during a City Commission meeting at 6 p.m
While the issue with Lake Worth Beach does not affect the first phase of the nourishment project
which will see sand stockpiled and pumped onto the beach at Phipps Ocean Park
which calls for the stockpiling of sand along the shoreline from Sloan's Curve south to the Lantana Municipal Beach
Lake Worth's municipal beach had been key to the project's southern reach
as the agreement would have allowed trucks contracted with Palm Beach to utilize a concrete road south of the Lake Worth Pier to replenish the dunes surrounding Lake Worth Beach's coastline
During previous beach nourishment projects, the town had entered the coastline through an access point at the 3360 S. Ocean Blvd Condominium, Palm Beach Public Works Director Paul Brazil told the council in July
Citing the significant impact on residents' quality of life
the condo refused to allow the nourishment project
leading the town to reach out to Lake Worth Beach
Because the protected seafloor near the southern coastline bars barges from pumping sand onto the beach
"we have to truck it in; there isn't any other alternative," Brazil said in July
(CBS12) — In the early hours Tuesday morning a shooting at a bar in downtown Lake Worth Beach left two men dead and two others injured
prompting an investigation by Palm Beach County Sheriff's detectives
Officials reported two of the men were taken to a local hospital: one with life-threatening injuries and the other in stable condition
the other two men involved were pronounced dead at the scene
A witness told CBS12 News that the group of men who were shot consisted of her coworkers from the Old Key Lime House in Lantana
She explained that she and her colleagues were having a Christmas party at Lilo's Streetfood and Bar in Lake Worth Beach
The party started at Lilo's at about 9 Monday night
When that party ended at about 12 midnight
several of the employees from Old Key Lime House walked down the street to another bar
When I came back I saw the police pull up
immediately ran in and saw two of our co-workers deceased on the floor
the other one had already ran out and found an ambulance
But four people shot," said Jackie Slattery
PBSO responded to The Rock Irish Pub at about 1 Tuesday morning
PBSO says some sort of altercation occurred
a fight inside the bar that led to the shooting
"After a night of celebrating Christmas with each other
enjoying all of the fruits of life and the good times
Some vile monster," said Ryan Cordero
"The person who did this is a vile monster?" we asked him
he killed two innocent people," Cordero said
Cordero says the Old Key Lime House has about 200 employees
He says he still can't wrap his head around the tragedy
"What would you say to the person who did this?" we asked Cordero
You keep feeling like you're just gonna wake up and this is just a little nightmare or something
you can't wrap your head around it yet
It's not real yet," Cordero said
PBSO says the two shooting victims are hospitalized
PBSO has not released any information on a possible motive for the shooting

(CBS12) — A desperate 9-1-1 call from a woman who said she was being held captive led deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) to a brothel operating out of a small apartment in Lake Worth Beach
The investigation resulted in the arrests of two Guatemalan nationals—brothers Yudvin and Glin Zuniga Latin—on charges including human trafficking and sexual battery
but when deputies arrived at the apartment they ran off
Authorities say the women were brought to Palm Beach County under false pretenses
but were instead forced into sex work at gunpoint
“This is another crime that didn’t have to happen—because they should have never been here,” said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw during a press conference Monday
Sunday when one of the victims managed to call 9-1-1
only that she had been trapped for days and needed help
Deputies traced the call to an apartment near Lake Worth Community High School and recognized the address as part of a larger
Inside an apartment on the 1400 block of Lake Avenue
terrified and unable to communicate with each other
they had been recruited under false pretenses and transported to Palm Beach County to work at the brothel

“The victims were placed in separate rooms
they were not allowed to engage with one another
and if they leave and did not comply with the demands
they knew what was going to happen to them,” said Sgt
Carlos Lisboa with the PBSO Special Investigations Division
He added that the women reported firearms were kept inside the residence at all times
Authorities say this isn’t the first time at least one of the brothers has been accused of operating a brothel
In 2023, CBS12 News reported that Glin Zuniga Latin and his mother were arrested for running a brothel just blocks from the latest crime scene
he and his brother Yudvin were arrested on the spot and placed under an ICE detainer
Sheriff Bradshaw emphasized that his agency is focused on removing criminals who are in the country illegally
This is targeted immigration and deportation
We’re targeting bad people,” Bradshaw said
He also shut down concerns about general immigration crackdowns
“No one’s going knocking on doors of neighborhoods and saying
‘Show us your papers.’ No one’s going to school to drag kids out
No one’s going to places like that where people are just working
Authorities acknowledge this brothel is just one of many that have been operating in suburban neighborhoods across Palm Beach County
sources have pointed to a network reportedly run by a woman who goes by Brenda
CBS12 News reporter Katie Bente asked about arresting Brenda or taking down other competing brothel networks
Lisboa said those investigations are ongoing
“You have to understand the size of these organizations
We can make a quick arrest and end it for the day
or we can make a big arrest and end it forever,” Lisboa said
Sheriff Bradshaw added that they are taking a strategic approach to dismantling these operations
“We may do surveillance on a place and see a little bit of activity
but then we want to get the people running it
and that’ll stop the little fish,” Bradshaw said
One way the sheriff’s office plans to fight back is by seizing the properties where these crimes are taking place
“We’re going to think about seizing these houses
If the people in them are a danger to the community
we’re going to look at taking the houses away,” Bradshaw said
Both Zuniga Latin brothers remain behind bars
Yudvin has been accused of two counts of human trafficking
Glin has been accused of two counts of human trafficking
PBSO added that both suspects are in the United States illegally from Guatemala
and ICE detainers have been placed on them
Authorities are urging anyone with information about suspected human trafficking operations to report it to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office
