Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says it's "unacceptable" that two commercial jetliners had to abort landings this week at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport because of an Army Black Hawk helicopter
The incident Thursday afternoon occurred three months after 67 people were killed in a midair collision near the airport between a Black Hawk and a passenger jet
In an email reported by Politico
Federal Aviation Administration assistant administrator for government and industry affairs
said the Army helicopter "took a scenic route around the Pentagon versus proceeding directly from the west to the heliport."
Senn said the helicopter violated safety standards and required air traffic controllers to order two commercial jetliners to perform "go-around maneuvers," aborting their landings and returning on another approach
Restrictions were placed on helicopter flights near the airport, whose airport code is DCA, after a Jan. 29 midair collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet that was attempting to land at DCA
It was the deadliest aviation accident in the U.S
"Unacceptable. Our helicopter restrictions around DCA are crystal clear," Duffy said in a post on the social platform X
No more helicopter rides for VIPs or unnecessary training in a congested DCA airspace full of civilians."
involved a Delta Air Lines flight and a Republic Airways flight
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are both carrying out investigations
Duffy said he'll also be talking to officials at the Defense Department about "why the hell our rules were disregarded."
In March, following the release of a preliminary investigation report into the January crash, NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy described the flight patterns around DCA as "an intolerable risk" as helicopters and commercial planes operate close to each other in the busy airspace over Washington
An NTSB analysis found that from 2011 to 2024
there was at least one "close call" each month between a commercial plane operating at the airport and a helicopter
Duffy permanently restricted nonessential helicopter operations around DCA
In late March, a close call between a Delta plane and an Air Force jet outside Washington triggered a collision warning and "corrective instructions" from air traffic controllers

EXPERT OPINION BY MINDA ZETLIN, AUTHOR OF 'CAREER SELF-CARE: FIND YOUR HAPPINESS, SUCCESS, AND FULFILLMENT AT WORK' @MINDAZETLIN
Baird Investment Bank is an investment firm and financial services company
Bosses routinely told employees to work 20-hour days
they reported being told to ignore the firm’s no-work-on-Saturday policy
but to refrain from logging their Saturday work hours
this overwork led to serious health issues
(Baird did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)
the forum member who said they were a recent employee
My VP informed me that the expectation was I am online and available until 4 am every night
regardless of what my workload looked like
They would then email me with unnecessary asks at 3:30 am to check in on me (hadn’t heard from them since 8 pm) and follow up with a list of ‘best practices’ for being alert and active at 3:45 am
were told to be available until the wee hours
Their bosses sent emails checking up on them at 2:30 a.m
it’s not surprising that some Baird employees who tried to fulfill these expectations saw their health collapse
who had complained to human resources about too many 20-hour workdays
was diagnosed with a failed pancreas due to overwork
The Wall Street Oasis poster described another colleague who ran marathons
but decided to quit Baird after too many 4 a.m
nights led to heart palpitations that repeatedly landed him in the hospital
The investment banking industry is famously brutal on junior employees. As the Journal noted, two young employees at other such firms have died in the past year, their deaths likely linked to overwork
But the Wall Street Oasis community agreed that Baird was the worst of the lot
They thought it was only a matter of time until someone there died
chances are you’d want to do something to mitigate the harsh working conditions
The employee with the failed pancreas was fired for poor productivity after a second trip to the emergency room
Leaders summoned employees to a pizza party and told them they needed to get more work done
Upper managers told junior employees to suck it up because those managers had it much worse in their day
But then came that “Epitome of a Sweatshop” post
exposing Baird’s brutal practices for the world to see
This could have been a turning point for the company
Baird did call together a town hall meeting in which senior managers encouraged junior employees to come forward with their complaints
and that they would “listen more,” the Journal reported
responsibility for these horrendous workplace practices lies at a higher level in the hierarchy than a midlevel vice president
and low productivity is a frequent complaint from bosses at Baird
I’m guessing your employees don’t have to stay up until 4 a.m
But you can still take this lesson to heart
If people are telling you that overwork is negatively affecting them
and determine if you need to make fundamental changes
Because you don’t want your company to wind up the subject of a viral post
Baird’s leadership will understand that too

Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins agreed ahead of the 2025 NFL draft they would mutually seek a trade to find a new home for the three-time All-Pro
so the 30-year-old cornerback remains on the trading block as the next phase of the NFL offseason begins
Ramsey is fresh off a season during which he recorded 60 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. He was Pro Football Focus' 10th-graded cornerback out of 116 qualified players at the position and allowed a 93.5 passer rating
Why wasn't Ramsey traded before the draft given his strong performance? The veteran has four years remaining on his contract, including the entirety of a three-year, $72.3 million extension he signed with the Dolphins on eve of the 2024 season
teams may be reluctant to give up high-end draft capital for Ramsey – unless Miami is willing to eat some of the money remaining on his deal
Ramsey remains a quality starting cornerback and should pique the interest of several contenders who need help at the position
Below is a handful of teams that could consider targeting Ramsey as the Dolphins continue to shop him
Sean McVay has made no secret of his admiration for Ramsey, who played for the Rams for three-and-a-half seasons. The 39-year-old coach referred to the veteran cornerback as a "total stud" in a recent radio interview and noted Los Angeles was weighing a pursuit of Ramsey
The Rams could use a true, No. 1 cornerback, and Ramsey would allow Ahkello Weatherspoon and Darious Williams to settle into complementary roles within Los Angeles' secondary
The Rams have just under $19.9 million in cap space available
so they could find a way to make room for Ramsey if they so desire
NFL POWER RANKINGS: Where all 32 teams stand following the 2025 draft
who are expected to challenge for playing time on the outside this season
Ramsey would provide the Raiders with that
Pete Carroll would likely be interested in acquiring a bigger-bodied
physical cornerback to help him try to recreate the "Legion of Boom" in Las Vegas
Atlanta could still use a higher-end partner for star cornerback A.J. Terrell to improve upon a defense that ranked 28th in EPA last season
Terrell and Ramsey would create an imposing cornerback duo that should pair well with the team's improved pass rush
Speaking of teams with low-ranked defenses, the Bengals checked in at just 23rd in defensive EPA
They needed to upgrade all three levels of their defense in the 2025 NFL draft but failed to add an impact player in the secondary
2026 NFL MOCK DRAFT: No Arch Manning, but QBs lead way-too-early look at first round
Adding Ramsey would take some pressure off Sneed to be the team's top cornerback and allow him to ensure he's healthy. If both veterans pan out, it would be very hard to throw against the Titans. That makes this move one for Tennessee to consider, especially since it is armed with the fifth-most cap space league-wide, per OverTheCap.com
Ramsey could slot in across from Mitchell with DeJean playing the slot and create one of the best nickel packages in the NFL
Vic Fangio will love having Ramsey available
so perhaps the Eagles will be willing to use their $24.8 million in cap space to make way for the veteran cornerback – provided they still have ample space after signing their 2025 draft picks

Amari Cooper is one of the most prominent free agents who remains unsigned following the 2025 NFL Draft
Cooper spent the 2024 NFL season with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills
to whom he was dealt ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline
He played 14 total games and posted a combined 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns
That said, Cooper isn't far removed from being a 1,000-yard receiver. He totaled a career-best 1,250 receiving yards with the Browns in 2023 and was named to his fifth Pro Bowl that season
Cooper – who turns 31 in June – could still have something left in the tank
That could prompt a receiver-needy team to take a chance on him
hoping he can once again be a quality starting receiver
Which teams could show the most interest in Cooper

Riviera is an annual stop on the PGA Tour
People go to great lengths to get on Riviera Country Club, but this method does not come recommended.
At around 1 p.m. on Friday, a small plane made an emergency landing at the prestigious private club in Santa Monica Calif., buzzing low over the course and bouncing to a halt in a wild scene captured on cell phone video.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, there were no injuries to anyone on the ground or to any of the three people on the plane, KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles reported.
A Riviera representative told Golf.com by phone that the club could not comment on the matter.
In the video of the incident, which quickly went viral, a man’s voice is heard calling out in surprise from the course as a phone camera focuses on the near distance. Moments later, a single-engine Cessna comes into view, winging low up the the 1st fairway and bouncing on the turf just left of the 2nd green before swerving to a stop by the 10th tee as startled golfers look on.

A high-end members-only club and three-time major championship host, Riviera is well-known to golf fans as host of the Genesis Invitational, an annual Tiger Woods-hosted event that is part of the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing
the Genesis was forced to relocate to Torrey Pines in San Diego after devastating wild fires swept through Los Angeles in January
which left 30 people dead and reduced entire neighborhoods to ruins
burned up to the edge of Riviera but did not damage the course
Few details about the emergency landing were immediately available on Friday afternoon, but flight-tracking information posted on flightradar24.com show that a Cessa with the same tail number as the plane in the video was scheduled to land at around the same time as the incident at nearby Santa Monica Airport.
The incident will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Video from a country club in the Pacific Palisades shows the frightening moment a small plane made an emergency landing on Friday

The Minnesota Vikings possess about $18 million in cap space in early May, enough to sign an impact free agent or two if general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah deems fit
The franchise doesn’t have many roster needs with training camp around the bend in July
but some onlookers have argued that the cornerback room could use a little love
Pro Football Focus knows just the guy: cornerback Rasul Douglas
PFF’s Ryan Smith sized up the NFL’s top five remaining free agents last week, connecting men like Aaron Rodgers to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Asante Samuel Jr. to the Miami Dolphins
he mentioned the Vikings as the best landing spot
Smith wrote
“Douglas is coming off a disappointing season in which he ranked 102nd out of 116 qualifying cornerbacks with a 53.9 PFF overall grade
earning a career-best 81.0 PFF overall grade in 2023.”
“The eight-year veteran has been a ballhawk in the NFL
recording at least seven pass breakups in six different seasons and picking off 14 passes from 2021-2023
Durability is a positive in Douglas’ game
He has averaged 984 snaps per season since 2022.”
Douglas is a Super Bowl champion (Philadelphia Eagles
“The Vikings will need to replace Stephon Gilmore
and Douglas is a natural fit in defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ aggressive
Minnesota had just five draft picks in the draft
suggesting the team was confident it could address its cornerback depth through free agency.”
If Minnesota took the plunge on Douglas’ free agency
the transaction would act as a cake-topper to a busy offseason
Adofo-Mensah used free agency in March to build his trenches
signing offensive linemen Ryan Kelly and Will Fries from the Indianapolis Colts while onboarding two defensive tackles
The young executive also extended cornerback Byron Murphy Jr.’s contract
Adding Douglas would make the depth chart bulletproof
Here’s Douglas’ NFL resume to date after joining the Eagles in 2017 as a 3rd-Round pick:
And his PFF grading:
not exclusive to the Vikings’ would-be free-agent preferences
Pro Football Talk‘s Josh Alper wrote last week about the Dolphins exploring Douglas’ free agency: “The Dolphins added one cornerback in the draft and it looks like they have plans to bolster the group with an older player as well.”
“General Manager Chris Grier said in a press conference on Saturday that ‘we’ve had a number of conversations with players’ when asked about signing a veteran free agent corner and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the team has been in contact with Rasul Douglas.”
The veteran defensive back can likely be signed for $7 million or $8 million per year
“Douglas was traded from the Packers to the Bills in 2023 and he had 87 tackles
and two fumble recoveries in 24 games for Buffalo.”
“The Dolphins picked Jason Marshall Jr
The team has been looking at trade options involving Ramsey
and pulling the trigger could lead to multiple veteran additions.”
No one is too sure if the Vikings will sign another cornerback
and Dwight McGlothern ready and willing to hold down the fort
But if Adofo-Mensah favored another notable option
(free agency) could be on the table if the Douglas to Minnesota deal doesn’t materialize
The Vikings’ defense ranked second-best in the NFL last year per EPA/Play

His experience would help guys in the locker room
and his production and style on the field are perfect to complement what the room currently has.”
WR Amari Cooper to the New York Jets: “The Jets lost Davante Adams in the offseason
and now there's not much beyond Garrett Wilson in the wide receiver room
They drafted Arian Smith in the fourth round and adjusted Allen Lazard's contract
but adding a secondary option with a higher upside like Amari Cooper would be a significant step to make Justin Fields' life easier.”
EDGE Za'Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions: “Right now
Marcus Davenport is projected to start opposite Aidan Hutchinson at defensive end for the Lions
That's certainly not the ideal scenario for a Super Bowl contender
Za'Darius was released from the Lions for contract reasons back in March
and the fact that he is still available proves that he can be a lower-cost move for Detroit at this point
Smith played eight games for the Lions last season after being acquired in an in-season trade with the Browns
Smith can be more efficient as a secondary edge option.”
but he can still offer a solid level of play
CB Asante Samuel Jr. to the Green Bay Packers: “The Packers seem to be more comfortable with their cornerback room than the outside public
as they didn't take a corner in the draft until the seventh round
Keeping Jaire Alexander is still on the table
They are one injury away from a real struggle
so adding a young player with a higher ceiling makes sense
even though Samuel brings some injury concerns.”
with the draft order based on the reverse order of Super Bowl odds
Below are some highlights in the first round
1. New Orleans Saints—Arch Manning
Arch Manning even being here is a long shot considering he is almost assuredly not entering the 2026 NFL Draft
The Manning family has made it quite clear they are in no rush to get Arch to the pros and would much prefer to get him extensive experience before heading to the NFL
There's a real chance he enters the 2027 NFL Draft
and perhaps even waits until 2028.“However
and Arch Manning looks like a ready-made first overall pick
And if the Saints are sitting there with the first overall pick
giving Arch a chance to go play for the same team his grandfather was quarterback of for 10+ years
This would be too perfect a situation to pass up
He just has to put together an absolutely immaculate 2025 season first.”
3. Cleveland Browns—Cade Klubnik, QB, Clemson: “Heading into the College Football Playoff Cade Klubnik had already thrown more passing touchdowns than every QB in the nation last fall except for Cam Ward (Miami) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado)
Klubnik put it all together in 2024 as he was much more efficient through the air and explosive on the ground
Somehow people still seem to disagree on his talents despite the Top 10 passing profile in the nation last season.“Clemson returns plenty of weapons around him
so he's in great position to take another massive step forward in his development
and possibly even push for a national championship with the Tigers
This former five star stud looks very much on track for first round capital (as you can see in 9 minutes of highlights on the post below) and the Browns go to the quarterback well once again here.”
South Carolina: “If Justin Fields struggles this season to the point where the Jets are picking top five in 2026 then the Jets could turn around a select a quarterback with equally ridiculous rushing upside
averaged nearly 8.7 adjusted yards per pass attempt
and racked up nearly 700 rushing yards on the ground
Sellers is still growing as a consistent passer
but he has first round quarterback physical traits
This may just look like drafting Justin Fields to replace Justin Fields
and Sellers is still a bit raw based on the 2024 results
but the upside is clear (as you can see in the post below).”
Texas: “This would be the most fun fit in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft
Micah Parsons has already said he would like to play with Anthony Hill Jr
The Cowboys could use a foundational off-ball linebacker with range and consistent downhill play in the run game
Hill won True Freshman All-American honors in 2023
and will likely be a huge part of the Texas Longhorns run back to the College Football Playoff this year
The Cowboys keep a Texas star home.”
25. Washington Commanders—Jeremiyah Love
Notre Dame: “Jeremiyah Love flashed potential as a true freshman
but then exploded last season as the most productive sophomore running back in the country
Jeremiyah Love is a sprinter with the balance and receiving skills to make him a potential feature back in the NFL
The Commanders are in great need of a dynamic rushing threat to pair with their incredibly mobile quarterback and Love fits that bill.”
28. Detroit Lions—Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson: “The positional choice here may shock some Lions fans, but Detroit doesn't usually do what most expect in the NFL Draft. Amik Robertson's contract is expiring. Terrion Arnold and Kindle Vildor were rather rough in coverage last season
twitchy athletic cornerback who plays cornerback like a linebacker against the run
He's the exact kind of player this Lions regime loves
If he continues racking up pass-breakups this season he's going to be an extremely early draft pick.”

MODERN DAY MARINE 2025 — The US Marine Corps’s top requirements officer said he anticipates the service’s first Landing Ship Medium (LSM) will take four to five years to produce
a number he hopes to eventually accelerate
“We want it faster than that, but I think that that’s the realistic timeline in which the shipbuilders can make it,” Lt. Gen. Eric Austin, the service’s top requirements officer, told reporters on the sidelines of the Modern Day Marine Exposition in Washington
“One of the good things about the [Naval Sea Systems Command] approach and the [Program Executive Office] Ships approach right now though is they’re buying data rights and they’re going to take a look at opportunities to own the design and be able to have it built in multiple shipyards.”
Landing Ship Medium is a new vessel the Marine Corps has been pursuing since the start of its endeavor into Force Design
it is intended to shuttle Marines and their gear between island chains in the Indo-Pacific
The program of record is slated to purchase 18 ships in total
but Austin predicted the Marines would be eager to increase that number if able
“I think the number is going to be more than that
We’re probably going to have an insatiable appetite for this capability once we field it
The Navy in April issued a pre-solicitation notice indicating it intends to negotiate a contract with Bollinger Shipyards to build the first LSM based on a design from a ship already in use by the Israelis
Separately, the Marines are continuing to experiment with Stern Landing Vessels
experimental ships meant to be a precursor to the LSM
head of the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory
told reporters Wednesday that the first SLV has been in use in Japan since the fall experimenting on various beaches
He also said the service is working with the Australian Army to build a second SLV that will do initial testing in Brisbane and then move to Darwin
where a rotational US Marine Corps force is located
“We’re learning a lot when it comes to not just the surf
but also the bathymetry and what is that surf doing to the sand
the whatever the bottom of that may be for that beach with different gradients,” Doran said

An airplane that was scheduled to land at Santa Monica Airport near Los Angeles made an emergency landing on Riviera Country Club on Friday

Harrison Ford landed his plane on a course next to the same airport
as it lands at Denver International Airport on Wednesday
It’s the first time this super jumbo jet has ever anded at DIA.Updated at 4:12 p.m
The world’s largest passenger jet made its first-ever regularly scheduled landing at Denver International Airport on Wednesday
when a Lufthansa German Airlines Airbus A380 touched down after a nonstop flight from Munich
Its arrival marks the beginning of regular service of the Airbus A380 between the two cities
Just how big is this super-sized jumbo jet
If the workhorse Boeing 737 passenger jet were a Labrador Retriever
the single-level 737 has seating for anywhere up to just over 200
while the A380 is capable of holding as many as 853 people on two decks
Though airport officials said Lufthansa's A380 is configured with 509 seats
And it needs two gates to board flyers efficiently: Its wingspan is about 261 feet — about 100 feet wider than a football field
during a quick speech at the gate on Wednesday
He pointed out that Denver’s airport — one of the busiest in the world
and the site of the longest commercial runway in North America — is more than capable of handling the A380 and its regular non-stop round trips to Munich
Wednesday’s event marked the second time an A380 landed in Denver
but that was a medical emergency landing for an Air France flight going from Los Angeles to Paris
Editor's note: This story has been updated to clarify the Airbus 380's inaugural service and seat capacity

NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe: The Miami Dolphins have explored the idea of adding cornerback Rasul Douglas
While the 2025 NFL Draft included plenty of twists and turns
but the fact that the Dolphins weren't able to move him before or during it means they missed an opportunity to recoup some instant draft capital
the market for a return on Ramsey is weaker
Because of the structure of Ramsey's contract -- which would clear nearly $10 million in cap space in a post-June 1 trade -- it also makes more sense for the Dolphins to wait until after June 1 to complete a deal
giving us time to ponder where the seven-time Pro Bowler might land
While there's been some chatter about a potential reunion with the Los Angeles Rams
I think their current composition at the position is good enough that they don't need to take on additional commitments -- like a cornerback whose cap number rises substantially in 2026
Here are four teams (and one wild-card option) that could be welcoming the 30-year-old three-time All-Pro to their clubs this summer:
Although Baltimore's CB room might seem crowded
if there's any team that consistently kicks the tires on known veterans looking to chase a ring
but adding Ramsey would fit with the franchise's tendency to welcome in proven players who have the chance to make an instant impact -- and further strengthen a roster that is already expected to contend for a title
Tampa might be the perfect place for him to find a valued role with a contender
Trading for Ramsey would signal the Cardinals are serious about contending in 2025
who is entering his third campaign as coach
the Raiders have the financial power to get it done
There's always a chance a trade never happens
and while the Dolphins' honesty about their interest in moving Ramsey suggests it might be inevitable
If Miami finds the interest in Ramsey (and the compensation offered) is subpar
it might choose to mend fences and keep him for 2025
It's the last year of guaranteed money on his current deal
and the Dolphins could choose to wait for the financial relief that would come with a release next offseason instead of forcing a trade now and accepting minimal return
don't forget how important this season is to the future of the Chris Grier/Mike McDaniel regime in Miami
it might end up making more sense to keep Ramsey instead of accepting peanuts just to move on from him

After a dry start to the day on Sunday, most of the region saw rain showers widespread through the afternoon and into the evening hours, with around and inch of rainfall, and we will add more rain onto that as we look ahead into the start of the week on Monday.
The chances for rain showers will stick around the forecast looking ahead into the start of next week, and we will even bring the chances of a few thunderstorms into the forecast looking ahead into the start of the week on Monday. We will keep the cloud cover into the forecast for most of the day, before the rain and thunderstorm chances overspread the region once again.

Watch the best plays made by wide receiver Amari Cooper in 10 seasons in the NFL
Free agency took its annual pause last week as clubs filled needs through the 2025 NFL Draft
The contracts likely won't be lucrative, and some players might wait until closer to training camp to find a home -- passing on offseason workouts -- but there are still jobs to be had. With the date for free-agent signees counting against the compensatory formula having passed
there is one less impediment to clubs inking them
The highest remaining player on Gregg Rosenthal's Top 101 Free Agents list is veteran wideout Amari Cooper
Cooper produced just 297 yards and two TDs in eight regular-season games in Western New York
it's little surprise that the 30-year-old remains a free agent
and injuries could help explain his lack of output down the stretch
The wideout could be buy-low gold for one club
let's look at some potential landing spots for the former first-round pick
Cooper might not be as speedy as he used to be
but he could take on some of the vertical clear-out routes that Harrison ran last year
opening up the second-year player to eat in the intermediate level
Given what the club went through last year with injuries to Olave and Shaheed
in addition to the 31-year-old Cooks' withering production
Cooper spent his last three seasons in Dallas with Kellen Moore -- the Saints' new head coach -- as his offensive coordinator
The familiarity could help get Cooper back on track
even with potentially fewer targets available
the Eagles could let things shake out and see if any youngsters are ready to take on a bigger role
adding a veteran could make sense as we near the season
Philly offers Cooper a legit shot at chasing a ring in 2025 that others on this list cannot
NFL Network's Maurice Jones-Drew says the Las Vegas Raiders would be the best team fit for wide receiver Amari Cooper in 2025

Helicopters flying near Reagan National Airport caused flight diversions yesterday (Sunday) and Thursday
The first incident involved an Army Black Hawk helicopter taking a “scenic route around the Pentagon,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration
It caused two commercial aircraft to cancel landings and has drawn the ire of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy
The Army has paused all helicopter training flights near the Pentagon pending a review of Thursday’s incident, Reuters and CBS reported today
involved a police helicopter responding to a car crash near the Key Bridge
a Delta Air Lines Airbus A319 and a Republic Airways Embraer E170 received instructions from air traffic control to “perform go-arounds” because of a “priority air transport” helicopter
according to an emailed statement from the FAA
The aircraft were not within the restricted mixed traffic area of Reagan National
the FAA told members of Congress in a separate memo seen by The Associated Press
The agency also said it appeared the helicopter “took a scenic route around the Pentagon” and didn’t fly directly to the heliport

As a result the other aircraft were given go-around instructions by air traffic control “to ensure the appropriate deconfliction of airspace,” Goldfedib said
“The United States Army remains committed to aviation safety and conducting flight operations within all approved guidelines and procedures,” she added
said that the safety of their customers and all people is most important and that they’ll “cooperate with authorities as they investigate.” Republic Airways said in a statement that it is also cooperating with the investigations
In addition to the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA investigating what happened
Duffy said he plans to talk to the Department of Defense to determine why rules were “disregarded.”
“Safety must ALWAYS come first,” Duffy wrote on X

The FAA, which manages the nation’s airspace and oversees aviation safety, has come under criticism after the NTSB said there had been an alarming number of near misses in recent years in the congested skies around Reagan National

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, the chairman of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, said on X that Thursday’s incident showcased the danger that can come with Army helicopters flying close to the airport
“Thank God there was a decisive response from air traffic controllers and pilots
or else these two close calls could have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives,” he said
Three days after the incident near the Pentagon
another helicopter entered the DCA airspace under very different circumstances around 11 a.m
It was a U.S. Park Police helicopter searching for people reported missing from a vehicle that had flipped over near the Key Bridge, The Washington Post reported
Air traffic controllers diverted three flights

“The FAA does not allow helicopters and airplanes to simultaneously operate in the airspace around Reagan Washington National Airport except in rare circumstances,” the FAA said on X
air traffic control cancelled landing clearances for three flights earlier today while a police helicopter was on an urgent mission in that airspace.”

Mapping the descent of a lunar lander, using nothing but data from an ‘event camera’ – this is the next challenge presented to the space community by the European Space Agency’s Advanced Concepts Team (ACT)
The ACT is ESA’s multidisciplinary think tank
focusing on emerging technologies and exploring new concepts and methods
“20 May will mark the start of our newest competition, run through the ACT’s Kelvins website
a portal dedicated to hosting public aerospace challenges,” announces Dario Izzo
In this Event-based Lunar OPtical flow for Egomotion estimation (ELOPE) challenge
researchers and space enthusiasts alike are asked to reconstruct an imaginary lunar lander’s descent trajectory
The participants will not be given any images
or information about the landing site – only unprocessed simulated data from an event camera
an imaging sensor that responds to changes in brightness
ACT’s Pietro Fanti explains: “Instead of capturing colour images using the RGB (red
and blue) channels like traditional cameras
an event camera records changes in brightness intensity for each pixel
“This allows us to capture data at a very high speed and even in challenging lighting conditions
such as scenes with very bright or very dark areas
the sensor has lower power consumption when compared to conventional cameras.”
Dario adds: “These qualities make event cameras a great tool for navigation during Moon landings
we have generated a large number of landing trajectories
and then we simulated the event data that an event camera fixed to a lunar lander would capture in that situation
Now we are asking the community to navigate our imaginary spacecraft through a safe
The ELOPE competition is a collaboration between ESA’s Advanced Concepts Team, the University of Adelaide and Delft University of Technology. The datasets and competition rules will be made available on 20 May 2025 through the competition website
Participation is free and open to everyone
and all submissions will be scored automatically on the platform
open to space enthusiasts from all over the world,” Leon notes
“The Kelvins competition initiative exemplifies how strategic engagement with the global scientific community can accelerate the development of innovative solutions to complex space challenges.”
Paige Beuckers makes her NBA preseason debut Friday as the Dallas Wings take on the Las Vegas Aces
It'll be her first pro game after being picked first overall in the WNBA draft
and Beuckers is injecting some excitement into a team that didn’t have a banner season last year: The Wings went 9-31 and finished with the second-worst record in the WNBA
They also missed the playoffs for the first time since the pandemic shortened the 2020 season
The disappointing season didn’t live up to the rich history of the franchise
dating back to its days as the Detroit Shock back in the late 1990s and early 2000s when they won three WNBA championships in 2003
2006 and 2008 under Detroit Pistons legend
Since coming to Dallas ahead of the 2016 season
the Wings have made the playoffs in five of their nine seasons
They’re laying the groundwork for success; they just haven’t been able to break through to the level they want to be at
She’s obviously a generational talent and comes off a great season at UConn
winning a national championship there and averaging 20 points
She was a do-it-all player for them who could take over a game and elevate the players around her
There’s been a lot of excitement around the idea of her partnering up with Arike Ogunbowale
who's been the Wings’ star since she was taken fifth overall in the 2019 WNBA draft
The Wings also added Aziaha James from North Carolina State University as the 12th overall draft pick and Madison Scott from Ole Miss 14th overall
and there’s optimism those two can both compete for roster spots alongside Beuckers
The addition of Beckers is far from the only change to the Wings this year
Curt Miller was brought in as the new general manager in November
Miller had head coaching experience with the Los Angeles Sparks and Connecticut Sun
He was also voted the WNBA executive of the year in 2017 and is a two-time coach of the year honoree in the league
Miller then hired Chris Koclanes as the new Wings head coach
who brings more than a decade of experience as an assistant coach both in the WNBA and at the NCAA level
He was defensive coordinator for the Sparks when Miller was head coach
That season Koclanes led them to the third best scoring defense in the league
Part of what makes Beuckers such an exciting get for Dallas is the star power fueling business momentum in the WNBA
like increased sponsorships and viewership
Beuckers the basketball player is super intriguing
but her visibility as one of the faces of women’s hoops in recent years is huge for Dallas
Beuckers has 2.5 million followers on Instagram
which is even more than Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott
and she’s filling a hole in the hearts of many Dallas sports fans after Luca Doncic's unceremonious exit in that February trade that shook the city
Hopefully Beuckers has a chance to endear herself with the fans and make that type of impact here
She's got the potential to be one of the next superstars in women's basketball
this is the last season the Dallas Wings will play at the University of Texas at Arlington's College Park Center
The Dallas City Council approved an agreement last year for the team to move into Memorial Arena at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center downtown
$19 million agreement is part of the city’s effort to revitalize the downtown area
But the Wings will be leaving their home court for just one night this summer
to play at the American Airlines Center against the Indiana Fever on June 27
It's a highly anticipated matchup in women's basketball as Beuckers dukes it out with Caitlin Clark
The pair had their fair share of matchups at the college level
most notably playing in the 2024 Final Four with Clark's Iowa team taking that one in narrow fashion
It's just one of many exciting opportunities for the Wings to try and continue growing their footprint in the area
The Dallas Wings’ pre-season gets underway Friday night at 6 p.m

He said they had attempted to do a Cinco de Mayo about 15 years ago
They joked that they chose to host the event at The Waterfront in case it rained

It has to rain a little bit,” Liliana said

Discussing the event’s entertainment
four bands will play throughout the day: Nueva Generacion 2000
The truck and car show will feature over 100 cars
Mito and Liliana anticipate a decent showing
with the weather forecast clear of any rain or snow

while it allows Latinos to share their culture
has become a common holiday for everyone in the United States
She said many Latinos don’t celebrate it that much but offer the community a day to come together
