More than a month after a vehicle was torched in Montgomery County
authorities announced that a suspect has been taken into custody
has been arrested following an investigation into an incident reported late on Tuesday
19 in the 9700 block of Key West Avenue that caused upwards of $40,000 in damage to a vehicle parked in an area garage
according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson said

police said 19-year-old Carlos Murillo-Guevara is the victim of the fatal shooting
Murillo-Guevara died after suffering from gunshot wounds in Lanham Friday evening
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case
The incident happened on the 6000 block of Seabrook Road just before 9 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene,they found the man outside of the location with gunshot wounds
Police said he was pronounced dead on the scene
Detectives are at the scene working to establish a suspect or suspects connected to this shooting

Crews responded to a major house fire in Lanham
Prince George’s County Fire and EMS received the call just after 1:40 a.m
for a fire that erupted at a single-story house on Annapolis Road near Washington Boulevard
they found flames shooting from the home’s roof
there are no updates on any injuries caused by the fire
but WTOP has learned that no firefighters were harmed while putting it out
Fire trucks blocked major portions of the four lane divided highway
stopping traffic in both directions for over five hours

(7News) — A young girl who was a student at DuVal High School is dead after a shooting Monday afternoon right outside the school in Lanham
Prince George’s County officers responded to Woodstream Drive and Palamar Drive around 3:45 p.m
where they found the girl with a gunshot wound
She was pronounced dead at a hospital later
police identified the girl as16-year-old Jayda Medrano-Moore of Greenbelt
the shooting occurred as she was walking on Palamar Drive
Officers said a dispute between two groups led to a gun going off and the girl being killed
Officers said they were not yet sure if the girl was involved in the dispute
"This is a sad day in Prince George's County
This is heartbreaking to see one of our students go through violence like they went through today
We are frustrated to see what our students in Prince George's County have to go through," said Barry Stanton

The shooting investigation prompted two nearby schools with afterschool activities --- DuVal High School and Robert Goddard Montessori School-- to be placed on lockdown
The lockdowns have since been lifted as of 5:10 p.m
Prince George's County Public Schools Superintendent Millard House II was among the county leaders expressing frustration and heartbreak in the wake of this shooting
"Together we gather with really heavy hearts
It is with great sorrow we address this press conference with our community as we grapple with this devastating loss of a bright
and a source of inspiration for many," House said
we must also confront the harsh reality that such tragedies should never have occurred whether in Prince George's County or any other county
We must demand the justice and appreciate our law enforcement officials as they work hard and tirelessly - even before this and after this - to crack the code on crimes just like this
and truly ensure this sorrowful type of incident does not occur in the future
Let us honor her memory by advocating for a safer environment."
DuVal High School was in the next phase of schools to receive updated security measures
House said the process for adding security enhancements would be expedited for DuVal High
a pair of portable metal detectors were installed at the school
which would have been in the next couple of months
but we're actually going to move that up to ensure this community feels the kind of safety we know it wants," House said
One woman who lives near the scene also expressed her frustration
"[Prince George's] County is disturbing
She was walking home from after school," said Bianca Moukouri
Now the whole street is filled with police week after week after week after week

Grief counselors and mental health professionals will be on the school’s campus Tuesday to support students and staff as they cope
Prince George’s County Public School leaders said in a statement shared Monday
This incident comes after Prince George's County Public Schools returned for week two of the 2023-2024 school year
the Maryland Department of Juvenile Justice released a 34-page report called "Putting Youth Crime In Maryland in Context."

The report also found that "gun violence by and against young people is particularly alarming."
