According to a ‘Severe Traffic Alert’ by Alert Montgomery at 2:46pm

fire crews watched as a passenger vehicle drove forward into the intersection at Intercounty Connector 200 and Layhill Road

A Virginia man driving a Tesla who caused a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman in Montgomery County in March has been charged
has been charged with criminally negligent manslaughter and failure to control speed to avoid a collision in connection to the death of Silver Spring resident Maria Antonieta Perdomo nearly seven months ago
police say that Perdomo was driving a Subaru Outback when she attempted to make a turn from Layhill Road onto Bel Pre Road when she was struck by a speeding Tesla - driven by Anderson - heading in the opposite direction
At the time of the crash it was determined Anderson was traveling at approximately 77 mph when he crashed into her
Anderson was charged late last month and accepted a plea last week
He is scheduled to be sentenced in December
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has shared the following brief summary of events regarding a fatal collision in the intersection of Norbeck and Layhill Roads on Friday afternoon
Montgomery County Department of Police 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the location for a collision involving a tractor trailer and SUV
The preliminary information available is that the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on Norbeck
and the adult female driver of a Blue Kia Seltos was traveling northbound on Layhill Road

The adult female driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene
The Collision Reconstruction Unit has responded to the location and is investigating this collision
The intersection of Norbeck and Layhill Roads will shut down for several hours
Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route
A news release will be distributed once more information is available
following proper notification of next of kin.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a a fire at a two-story unit in the area of Layhill Rd and Norbeck Rd at approximately 10pm on Wednesday night
According to MCFRS chief spokesperson Pete Piringer
the unit/house appears to be vacant or unoccupied with nobody around
crews encountered a fire that’s showing from both the first and second floor of the house/unit
The fire is in a non-hydrant area so the water supply task force has been requested and dispatched as of 10:30pm
Piringer stated the bulk of the fire on the first and second floors has been knocked down and that firefighters are working on the fire in the attic and roof
Primary and secondary searches of the house have been made

Gold’s Gym closed its Layhill Center location in Silver Spring earlier this month
according to a representative from one of its Rockville locations
We were told the decision was made to not renew the lease at 14348 Layhill Rd
Gold’s Gym has other Montgomery County locations in Gaithersburg, Germantown, Olney, and two in Rockville (Rockville Town Square and Wintergreen Plaza). Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Layhill Rd on Monday afternoon

(7News) — At least five people were taken to the hospital after a shooting outside of arestaurant inthe Layhill-Norbeck community
Authorities said officers with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded toSole D'Italia Restaurant on 14324 Layhill Road around 12:15 a.m
after "multiple reports of shots being fired."
An argument amongst people inside the restaurant spilled into the parking lot and shots were fired
MCPD Public Information Officer Shiera Goff said
they found three women and two men injured:
One of the individuals shot initially left the scene but then came back and asked to be transported,Goff said
Police said they are working to determine the suspect(s) in the incident

The suspect's mother was also located in the home

(7News) — A woman is dead after a crash in Aspen Hill
Crews said they responded to the intersection of Layhill Road and Bell Pre Road around 2:34 p.m
An investigation revealed that a Subaru and a Tesla collided at the location
A woman driving one car was pronounced dead at the scene and a man driving the second car was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
The investigation into this incident is ongoing

A man convicted of a 2019 Silver Spring bank robbery was sentenced to 10 years in prison plus five years of supervised probation upon release on Friday
in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County
Judge John Maloney issued the sentence a week after a jury found defendant Jhasir Devaux
located at 14241 Layhill Road in Silver Spring
and passed a note to the bank teller demanding money
wearing a dark blue long sleeve hooded sweatshirt
black sunglasses and a white hospital mask
according to a Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) press release
showing Devaux standing in front of the victim’s bank teller window
The bank teller said that Devaux passed her a folded piece of paper
advising that she withdraw money from a listed account number
to not ring alarms and to not include any dye packs
Devaux ultimately made off with approximately $4,780 from the bank teller’s cash drawer
The subsequent MCPD investigation revealed that Devaux had robbed the same bank on April 9
Following the arrest for the previous robbery
Devaux used to live on Catamount Court in Silver Spring
Catamount Court intersects with Catoctin Drive
where an employee witness last saw the suspect running towards after the robbery on August 7
This employee also witnessed the 2016 bank robbery
Detectives obtained call records from Devaux’s cell phone that showed activity near the Silver Spring Bank around the time of the robbery
forensic technologists identified Devaux’s fingerprints on the bank teller note
Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Harrison and Tim D’Elia prosecuted the case
where Devaux faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison
senior journalism and psychology major at the University of Maryland in College Park with interests in investigative reporting and photojournalism

Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County
to ten years in prison after a jury convicted defendant
This stems from the robbery of the Sandy Spring Bank located at 14241 Layhill Road in Silver Spring on Aug
The defendant wore a construction vest and hospital mask (this was prior to the pandemic) when he entered the bank and passed the teller a note demanding money
The following is a summary of events: On 8-7-2019 at approximately 12:59pm
police were dispatched to a bank robbery that just occurred at the Sandy Spring Bank located at 14241 Layhill Road Silver Spring
The victim stated that at 1255 hours the suspect
entered the bank and approached her teller window
the suspect handed her a folded piece of paper and advised that his account number was on the paper and he wanted to withdraw his money from the account
She opened the piece of paper and observed It to be a note stating to give him all the money and not include any dye packs
The victim gave the suspect approximately $4,780 in US Currency from her cash drawer and observed the suspect run out the front door of the bank
A witness employee at the bank stated the suspect ran towards Catoctin Drive and that this same bank was robbed in 2016 by a suspect that matched the same physical description
This person was also a witness to the 2016 bank robbery
and a track was initiated which led to the area of Catoctin Drive where the track was then lost
The investigation revealed Jhasir Mrquis Devaux robbed the same bank on April 9
During this robbery Devaux passed a note and robbed the bank and was arrested and charged with the bank robbery as well as a carjacking
Devaux pleaded guilty to the bank robbery and carjacking and served jail time
Devaux has previously lived on Catamount Court
Silver Spring MD where his grandmother currently resides
Catoctin Drive and Catamount Court intersect with each other
This is also the area were K-9 track ended and the employee witness last saw the suspect running towards after the robbery on August 7
Devaux matched the physical description of the bank robber
Detectives interviewed his grandmother and she advised she had last seen him at her residence in late July into early August 2019 and he spent two nights at her residence
She also provided the cellular number 443-xxx-xxxx and stated she had spoken to him on that number as recently as August 5
Police obtained a search warrant for the call detail records and cell tower history of cellular number 443-xxx-xxxx currently used by Devaux
Verizon provided the call detail records and cell tower history which indicate that cellular number was being used on or near the Sandy Spring bank during the time of bank robbery
The robbery note that was passed by the suspect in the bank robbery was collected and processed by a Montgomery County Forensic technician and submitted to the RAFIS for examination
The known latent fingerprint of Jhasir Devaux was identified on the robbery note used in the bank robbery

the collision involved two vehicles with one person trapped inside of each vehicle

Around 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the rear of the restaurant located at 14324 Layhill Road in Silver Spring for the report of shots being fired
Police found three woman and two men who had sustained injuries
One of the victims received serious but not life-threatening injuries
Three other victims received less significant injuries after being shot and the another victim suffered a minor injury from the incident
Officers assisted Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel in providing medical care to the victims
An initial investigation revealed that an argument that had started in the restaurant had moved to the parking lot

The jury found Boyd intended to cause fear of physical bodily harm and used a firearm to do so

WASHINGTON — A hit-and-run collision killed a pedestrian around Layhill Road and Bel Pre Road in Silver Spring
identified as 77-year-old Julius Henry Newton of the Layhill area was struck in the area of Bel Pre and Homecrest roads at about 9:20 p.m
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene
they found Newtown dead in the roadway of the Homecrest Road intersection
police officers and emergency personnel answered a call for a pedestrian hit in the 14400 block of Layhill Road
As they were trying to locate the accident
a second call came in for a pedestrian hit about a mile away at Bel Pre Road and Homecrest Road
Officers determined that the two calls were for the same collision
Police report that Newton had been hit on Layhill Road and was carried by the vehicle that hit him for about one mile onto the Homecrest Road and Bel Pre Road intersection
Montgomery County police are looking for the driver involved: detectives believe the striking vehicle may be a late model white or tan sedan
Investigators believe there is damage to the striking vehicle’s front end
Detectives also believe that the driver may have believed that he or she struck an animal or some other object in the road
