SARATOGA SPRINGS — Two people were seriously injured when their motorcycle hit another vehicle on Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs Saturday
An official said neither was wearing a helmet
She said traffic had stopped in the area of Redwood Road and Cold Springs Drive
and a motorcycle carrying two people did not stop in time
The male driver of the motorcycle and a female passenger both sustained serious injuries
The driver of the car was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries
Lennon Flack with the Lehi Fire Department said both people on the motorcycle were thrown in the crash
He said both sustained serious injuries to their legs
and the female passenger received “significant head trauma.”
Saratoga Springs Police and fire crews responded to the crash
Lehi-based Purple Mattress received a legal victory in federal court Tuesday as the company continues to defend its products’ purple-colored trademarks
District Court of South Carolina Charleston Division dismissed a complaint filed by American Serleep Inc
seeking a declaratory judgment of noninfringement to continue selling mattresses containing “plum-colored elements.”
The South Carolina court determined it could not exercise personal jurisdiction over Purple
“This decision underscores the court’s recognition of the jurisdictional limitations in the case brought against Purple,” a release from Purple said
Serleep filed a complaint against Purple on Jan
alleging Purple falsely notified The Home Depot that Serleep’s products infringed on Purple’s trademark
including a mattress with “plum-colored elements.”
Serleep argued Purple’s trademarks did not have “acquired distinctiveness,” and said the allegations had “the potential to cause significant financial harm to (Serleep) in South Carolina and elsewhere
which owns several dozen purple-colored patents for mattresses
requested a dismissal of the case on jurisdictional grounds
contending Purple is a Delaware incorporation primarily based in Utah that sells products nationwide
“Even assuming that Plaintiff made a prima facie showing that Purple purposefully availed itself of the privilege of conducting business within South Carolina
it has failed to draw a connection between Purple’s contacts with the state and the basis of the suit
the Court finds that it does not have specific jurisdiction over Plaintiff’s claims and dismisses the case without prejudice.”
Purple’s legal battle over its trademark rights continues in a Florida U.S
where the company is suing Serleep and an affiliate company
seeking injunctive relief and damages to prevent “further unauthorized use of Purple’s intellectual proprietary,” according to Purple
“The trademark infringement lawsuit is ongoing and highlights Purple’s dedication to defending its well-known purple-colored marks
which have become synonymous with the company’s innovative and high-quality products,” the release said

Utah is home to plenty of interesting bar concepts
Quarters — with locations in downtown Salt Lake City and Sugar House — is an arcade bar
Prohibition in Murray is a speakeasy that will transport you to the 1920s
Bar Nohm in Central 9th is a Japanese izakaya
But a shoe repair shop that’s also a bar? It just hasn’t been done in Utah, said Dax Williamson, the owner of Lucky Sole Shoe Repair in Lehi
So until something changes (Williamson said the city just bought the church property)
he’s planning on hosting pop-up events with alcohol at his shop using 72-hour permits
which he’s calling the shop’s “grand reopening,” is happening this Friday
Lamenting a lack of nightlife and hangout spots in Lehi
“We really wanted to create a space for the community to gather and enjoy a historical craft.”

Shelves full of cowboy boots and shoes of all kinds line the walls
A tiny white dog named Chloe lounges on a rug
A blue-eyed cat named Kittay keeps his post on a shelf
“This poor town just doesn’t get the credit that it deserves,” Williamson said
“There’s so much neat history just on this street alone and it’s all going away really fast
when he was also a ski patroller at Sundance Mountain Resort
he always told his dad that he also wanted to be a ski patroller when he got older
He didn’t want to go into the family business of cobbling shoes
Soon after Williamson graduated from high school
he started going to Lucky Sole to help his dad with the ever-growing pile of shoes that needed mending
Williamson ended up going into the service industry
including working in bars in fine-dining restaurants and ski resorts
when his dad died with 40 years as a ski patroller under his belt
Williamson also lost his job running the Snowpine Lodge at Alta due to the COVID pandemic
Williamson wasn’t sure what to do with Lucky Sole
since no one in his family was interested in taking up cobbling
and started making plans to move to Montana

I’d be stupid to sell this place,’ because we were so busy,” he said
“people weren’t going out and spending money on new
but he found that the building was in rough shape
The building was so dilapidated that “we should have torn it down
but we ended up saving it and we kept the original bones,” Williamson said
Williamson and several contractors completely overhauled the shop
redoing the plumbing and installing new electrical and a new roof
bar top and benches inside the shop were made using wood from an old elm tree that had been cut down in a local farmer’s field
he’s moving forward with a plan that Williamson and his dad had talked about just before he died: eventually opening a permanent bar at Lucky Sole
(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Owner Dax Williamson points out the patio space behind Lucky Sole Shoe Repair in Lehi on Thursday
This weekend’s three-day event will start Friday with a ribbon-cutting for the shop by the Lehi Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 p.m
From 6 p.m. to midnight, bartenders from Salt Lake City cocktail bar Water Witch will take over the shop
mixing drinks among the same machines that Williamson and his team use to repair shoes
there will be a workshop before the evening social kicks off at 6 p.m
On Saturday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Jimmy Santangelo, founder of the Wine Academy of Utah, will teach a tutorial on whiskey and host a tasting, showcasing whiskey from Sugar House Distillery and around the world
That whiskey knowledge will be paired with information about leather by Williamson
who will talk about different types and textures of leather and discuss how the shop and repairs work
On Sunday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Francis Fecteau from Libation will teach a workshop on mezcal and host a tasting
which will be combined with more information on leathers from Williamson
While Lucky Sole will hold a free open house during the day all weekend, the two workshops are ticketed events. The tickets are available at LuckySoleShoeRepair.com and cost $58.90; admission for the evening social afterward is included in the ticket price
If you just want to have a drink and socialize after the workshops
Most of the weekend’s festivities will be held in the patio space behind the shop, with a pop-up bar along one wall and plenty of seating and tables. A food truck from Jurassic Tacos will keep everyone fed.
After the event, Lucky Sole will go back to being just a shoe repair shop. For now.

Utah (KUTV) — People in one neighborhood in Lehi are turning up the volume on their complaints about noise disturbances from a company nearby
and they're hoping their city councilors hear them
Neighbors we spoke with in the Gateway subdivision in Lehi told us they're hearing loud noises all day and through the night
"You'll hear the backup beepers you hear on heavy equipment
You hear all the engines start up early in the morning," said Ross Carter
who has lived in the neighborhood for decades
They'll line those things up and get sledgehammers out and it sounds like this neighborhood is being bombed."
Carter said the noise problem there stems from a company called Hadco Construction
which is right behind his backyard and has
we're sending emails to the city at 2
and we just can't get any traction."
Carter said he's put in hundreds of hours attending meetings and trying to contact the city council about this
has just neglected this so bad and the city council just seems to be scared to death of offending Hadco," Carter said
there's not been one ounce of recourse for the citizens."
He said he just wants to see more protections put in place when it comes to noise disturbances
"The last time we really dealt with a noise enforcement officer
I was so frustrated because it was basically
there was no amount of noise that was unacceptable."
The Lehi City Council did take up the issue of noise disturbances Wednesday
looking at how to better the existing city noise ordinance
"We're doing some different things
Because one of the problems we're facing is that we have some incompatible land uses," said Lehi City Councilor Michelle Stallings
who is championing getting the ordinance revamped
include having light industrial zones next to residential areas
"Those issues were in place before most of us got on the city council so we're kind of addressing it after the fact," Stallings said
"The problem with our noise ordinance currently is that it's kind of cumbersome
it's difficult to understand and enforce so we simplified it
Stallings spoke on behalf of herself as a city councilor
and not on behalf of the whole city council or the city
She said this is still in the very early stages—the proposed revised ordinance is still only a draft
"We want to protect everybody's property rights and the resident's right to health and safety and not be woken up in the middle of the night multiple times."
Stallings recognizes the community's concerns: "I've heard their concerns and they're legitimate and it is affecting their health and safety
We have people that are ready to move because of this."
Carter said he had heard the city council is considering reworking the noise ordinance—but he doesn't have high hopes
"From what I'm hearing: it's more kicking the can down the road," Carter said
"The neighborhood is just exhausted by it
KUTV 2News did reach out to Hadco Construction for comment about this matter but have not heard back
Utah — Lehi police are asking residents to look for a person who is accused of trying to enter people's homes while they are away
the suspect is posing as a pest control salesperson
The Lehi Police Department released a video
that shows the individual attempting to contact a resident at a Lehi home
a homeowner reported that the salesperson attempted to enter their home when no one answered the door
Police say the suspect doesn't have a solicitor's permit from Lehi
and he isn't carrying any company information for the company he claims to work for
Watch: Police warn of a salesperson attempting to enter homes
Officers are asking residents to check their doorbell cameras to check and see if this person came to their doors
They add that he could have attempted to enter your home
LEHI — An 18-year-old California man was arrested after allegedly going too far in his door-to-door salesmanship
which police say included trying residents' doors to check if they were unlocked so he could talk to the homeowners
was booked into the Utah County Jail on Tuesday for investigation of the charges of aggressive solicitation
Lehi police received a report of "an aggressive door-to-door solicitor," a police booking affidavit states
The caller said it was the same man police had already been told about earlier in the day
"Those officers gave a warning to Graves that he was not to conduct door-to-door soliciting without first receiving a permit from Lehi city
this new report was received," the affidavit states
The caller also claimed Graves had attempted to enter her home about 1:45 p.m.
The woman showed officers video recorded from her doorbell camera showing "a male dressed in all black
he then attempted the door handle of the front door
but it was locked," the affidavit states
they found another homeowner who claimed he "witnessed him exiting their open garage without their permission." After police located Graves and asked him about that incident
he said "he was just admiring items within their garage," according to the affidavit
A third homeowner then contacted police to report "an individual dressed in all black making aggressive door-to-door soliciting at a residence with a 'no solicitation' sign," the affidavit states
Officers located Graves following the third complaint
"When asked if he had attempted to try people's door knobs he stated he had; he was attempting to make face-to-face contact with people and tried the door knobs to get their attention," according to the affidavit
Police also learned Graves left his Segway plugged in at a nearby church to charge without permission
Graves was taken into custody after being questioned
Detectives have since determined that Graves does not work for the pest control company that he was allegedly selling
"The individual does not have a solicitor's permit from Lehi nor was he carrying any company information for the company he claims to be working for
We are asking homeowners with doorbell cameras to please check your recordings and let us know if this individual came to your home earlier today
especially if he attempted to open the door to gain access," Lehi police stated in a social media post

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a rendering for the Lehi Utah Temple
the northernmost house of the Lord in Utah County
The rendering gives a first look at the multistory edifice of approximately 85,000 square feet to be built on a 22.48-acre site
A meetinghouse will also be built on the grounds
located northwest of the intersection of 3950 North and North Center Street in Lehi
This rendering was first published Monday, Feb. 24, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. The First Presidency released the Lehi temple site on April 22
this house of the Lord will have tall rectangular windows surrounding the off-white exterior
with a tower and pointed spire atop the building’s center
Two dedicated temples are under renovation, the Salt Lake and Provo Utah Rock Canyon temples. The Syracuse Utah Temple, announced in April 2020, will be dedicated June 8
after a public open house from May 10 to May 31
now with nearly 2.2 million Latter-day Saints in more than 5,400 congregations
is home to four pioneer-era houses of the Lord dedicated in the 1800s
Two days after Latter-day Saint pioneers first arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, Church President Brigham Young drove his cane into what would become the Salt Lake Temple site and said
A large development project encompassing housing
retail and a new grocery store could be in the future for Lehi’s Traverse Mountain area
During its March 18 meeting
the Lehi City Council greenlit a tax increment financing agreement
for the development of what’s being called the Morning Vista Community Reinvestment Project Area
The proposed Lehi mixed-use village could create a community-centric area just north of Timpanogos Highway along Morning Vista Boulevard in the heart of the city’s technology corridor with 35,000 square feet of groceries
70,000 square feet of retail and 30,000 square feet of patio space
said they partnered with CenterCal Properties
which developed Station Park in Farmington and The Village in Riverton
“They really specialize in creating community and gathering space
and that’s really what we wanted to accomplish here — kind of in the heart of the east side of Lehi and accommodating the massive growth and investment that’s happening along (state Route) 92
” Swain said before the City Council ahead of the presentation
The project aims to span 24 acres of retail with “fine dining” a “high-end grocer” and 5 acres of residential space
11 of which would be designated for affordable housing
the Lehi Redevelopment Agency would allocate 100% of its share of sales tax revenue to the developer for the first eight years of the proposed project
with payments not exceeding $7,927,672 over the 15-year period
Not everyone on the City Council supported the idea of Lehi doling out $8 million in tax subsidies to the developer
what I see is — it’s not a great benefit for the residents of Lehi,” said Councilwoman Michelle Stallings
who raised numerous concerns about the proposal during the meeting
“I’m not willing to give up $8 million of tax revenue for our city just to get a restaurant for tech executives,” Stallings added
shared similar feelings and criticism of the developer
“I think it’s just good to realize that we’ve got somebody coming back that has been given the golden plate and is now asking for $8 million of additional tax subsidy
and I think the city really needs to hold them accountable,” Ludlow said before the council
Lehi Economic Development Director Marlin Eldred clarified that the $8 million would likely come from future tax revenues
“I just want to be clear that the $8 million we’re talking about is not coming out of our current coffers
We’re not writing them a check from our bank accounts,” Eldred explained
He also noted that the city would reap the benefits of the project in the long run by receiving $20 million in franchise tax
followed by the continued tax base after the first 15 years
Other council members and Mayor Mark Johnson acknowledged Stallings’ concerns but expressed support for the project
“I also think that there’s going to be opportunities along the way to perhaps gain things as part of this development that would not otherwise be there
I’m hopeful of that,” Councilwoman Paige Albrecht said
A revolving question during the portion of the meeting that extended well beyond 1 a.m
was surrounding the intended grocery store for the potential future complex
A press release issued in March by Mountain West Commercial Real Estate alluded to Whole Foods
but Swain wouldn’t confirm or deny that claim
we never said that formally and haven’t announced it,” Swain stated before the city council
“We know that their name has been dropped in some media
the city council voted 3-1 in favor of the tax break
bringing the project one step closer to fruition
Eldred said the project would still need to go through a developmental process for the tax revenue backing
Swain said the development would likely take at least two years to build out
An 18-year-old has been charged with misdemeanors after Lehi residents reported him to be aggressive in his door-to-door selling tactics
Neighbors here say they had different experiences with the young man
(Image provided by Lehi Police Department.)
Utah (KUTV) — An 18-year-old has been charged with misdemeanors after Lehi residents reported him to be aggressive in his door-to-door selling tactics
Neighbors said they had different experiences with the young man
he seemed very friendly,” said Lehi mother Susannah Beaumont
She said she was walking when the salesman said 'Hello' to her in passing
Lehi police posted a porch camera video of the 18-year-old
Court documents showed he tried opening the front door of one home and walked into an open garage without permission
police spoke with the young salesman multiple times telling him to stop
Neighbors we spoke with say he was looking in their windows after multiple knocks on their doors
“My toddlers love to answer the door,” said Beaumont
“Just knowing that somebody that might want to enter the house without waiting and my kids could answer the door
William Loveridge said its good to call police if you sense something is off
“If they are looking through windows or trying the doors
definitely call the police department,” he said
Susannah said she will keep in mind after seeing the Facebook post
“The fact that he didn’t have a branded t-shirt or anything with him I didn’t even consider that,” she said
“So seeing that from the police department’s post
I thought ‘oh that’s something I probably should be aware of.’”
This salesman was charged with misdemeanor aggressive solicitation
two trespassing charges and utility theft as police say he was charging his Segway scooter at an outdoor church outlet without permission

Utah (KUTV) — A Lehi man with a history of violence was arrested after he reportedly choked a child and threw him across the room during a volleyball tournament at an area meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
A probable cause statement filed by the Lehi Police Department stated Nathan Jack Speaker
was taken into custody on Monday after allegedly assaulting a juvenile at the church on March 8
The arresting officer reported Speaker was among the few remaining people still inside the cultural hall that Saturday night
which included five children and another adult
"As the children were knocking the volleyball around
the juvenile victim stepped in front of Nathan and hit the ball away from him," according to the affidavit
"This caused Nathan to become upset and grab the juvenile victim by the throat
Nathan lifted the juvenile victim completely off the ground ..
and threw the juvenile victim across the room ..."
Police reported that the victim was thrown into another juvenile
The victim suffered a contusion to his right eye and a scrape on his left knee
An adult witness reported seeing the boy holding his throat and crying immediately after the incident
"The adult witness had to physically step between Nathan and the juvenile victim as Nathan began to reapproach the juvenile victim," the affidavit states
Speaker reportedly left a handwritten apology letter for the victim and family
and then texted the victim's mother pleading with her not to report the incident to police
"Nathan actively evaded apprehension by leaving his residence and staying at an unknown location," the Lehi officer reported
"It took almost 4 days to locate Nathan and take him into custody
Family members knew where Nathan was staying but would not tell law enforcement."
and planned upcoming trips to California and Texas
The document note Speaker has previously been in court on domestic abuse charges
though they were dismissed after a plea in abeyance
He was booked into the Utah County Jail early Tuesday morning on suspicion of second-degree felony intentional aggravated child abuse and third-degree felony tampering with a witness
Matthew Jacobson reported from Salt Lake City
Texas Instruments has conducted a round of layoffs at its Lehi campus this week
a spokesperson for the company confirmed to the Daily Herald on Friday morning
“Texas Instruments made some organizational changes at our site in Lehi to ensure we are positioned to efficiently support our long-term operational plans
These changes included eliminating some roles,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement
The Texas Instruments representative did not specify the reason for the cuts
exactly how many positions were eliminated from its Lehi semiconductor fabrication plant
or if other roles were axed across the company outside Utah
the spokesperson said it was less than 33% of the Lehi staff who were given their separation papers Thursday
Texas Instruments broke ground on Lehi’s new facility in November 2023
called LFAB2 — the “L” stands for Lehi — will manufacture analog and embedded processing chips
Company leaders at the time noted the $11 billion economic investment for the state of Utah
as well as a $9 million investment into the Alpine School District for efforts to promote STEM learning opportunities for students
Texas Instruments said in 2023 that the new facility would provide 800 additional jobs for Utahns
Texas Instruments says it stands committed to its local investment
“Utah continues to be an important part of our manufacturing footprint and company strategy
as we build the geopolitically dependable capacity our customers will need for decades to come,” the spokesperson said
which includes building another fab in Lehi
Utah (KUTV) — A Lehi man was arrested for stealing and sniffing children's socks and taking pictures of children playing nearby
was reported to West Jordan police for stealing children's socks at Rush Funplex in Jordan Landing
Investigation showed Brown had stolen the socks and "sniffed" them while taking pictures of the children playing at the Rush Funplex
police filed a search warrant of Brown's Lehi home and electronic devices
Police reportedly found multiple files of child sexual abuse material
some of which "appear to be produced by the suspect," police said
Some of the pictures police found were of children trying on shoes
Court documents added that the investigation and search warrant service of Brown's home showed Brown had attempted to have a witness lie to the court
Brown is being charged with ten counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor
nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of tampering with a witness
It’s not unusual for anyone driving along 2100 North in Lehi during heavy travel times to find themselves in the midst of traffic congestion
The same could be said for Pioneer Crossing during rush hour traffic
Slated to begin sometime late this year or early 2026
UDOT will construct a six-lane freeway along the middle section that separates the existing 2100 North highway
which will span nearly 3 miles from Redwood Road to the I-15 interchange
The 2100 North roadway drivers are currently familiar with will be converted into frontage roads
accessible from the new freeway via slip-ramps
The freeway is planned to go over the intersection at 3600 West and under the crossing at 2300 West
Other additions include amenities for pedestrians and a realignment of the existing trail path along 2100 North
said UDOT recently re-evaluated an original 2008 environmental impact study that encompassed the entire scope of the corridor project with consideration for new growth in the area and proposed design refinements
we’re actually accelerating phase three of the full build out
and we’re building the full freeway piece now,” he explained
Johnson said the future 2100 North freeway will provide continuous travel for people commuting from the northwestern edge of Utah County to I-15
the people coming out of Saratoga (Springs) and Eagle Mountain
and get them up onto the freeway and directly over to I-15 and take them out of that local traffic,” he told the Daily Herald
UDOT is in the midst of seeking input on findings from the re-evaluated results of the study
Dozens of citizens converged inside the gymnasium at Liberty Hills Elementary School in Lehi for a public open house on Thursday to review the preliminary design
the project’s benefits and potential impacts to their neighborhood
Some residents expressed concerns over anticipated noise
Several surrounding areas near the planned freeway were assessed to determine if they would qualify for noise barriers

The Utah National Guard celebrated the beginning of a new era in northern Utah County with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of its Lehi City Armory on Monday afternoon
The brick structure built in the late 1950s has served as a National Guard facility where units train
It was also featured in the 1968 film “The Devil’s Brigade.”
the Lehi Armory has undergone interior renovations while also allotting space for community use
after several year’s absence from the city
the Utah National Guard’s 23rd Army Band and the 128th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment will call Lehi home
according to a Utah National Guard press release
these units finally have a space specifically designed to accommodate their unique needs
We are grateful for the city’s support and look forward to being an active partner in the community again
We truly appreciate the support and patriotism of Lehi City,” said Col
The newly renovated space provides the units with areas that greatly improve their ability to train in their specific tasks and missions
a capability that has been lacking for both these units for many years
“This space is tailored to our mission needs
which enhances our capabilities and helps us accomplish our public affairs mission
We are excited to be amongst the local community,” said Maj
The 23rd Army Band will benefit from the new space as it looks to provide a variety of new areas that aid the band’s mission and gives them space to practice for the many community concerts and events they participate in each year
“This building will allow us to train more efficiently and effectively than ever before,” Chief Warrant Officer 2 Spencer Frohm
“We look forward to calling this place home
Thank you to all who made this a reality.”
Lehi Councilmember Chris Condie spoke briefly during the event
calling the renovations a symbol of commitment
“Today marks a great day in Lehi City and our National Guard
The reopening of Lehi Armory is a powerful investment in the strength and readiness of our brave men and women in uniform,” he said

A new housing development in Lehi would add a number of apartment units along a transit route in growing Utah County
The development will add 304 apartments to the northern edge of Lehi — already a growing hub of tech companies and other large businesses as part of the Silicon Slopes
Just under 10 percent of the total apartments in the development would have three bedrooms and be considered family sized units
There’s little doubt that these family sized units will be in high demand
as Utah County is one of the fastest growing areas in the state
Not only would the development add larger units to a growing area of Lehi
it would also be built near a site that will hold a Utah Transit Authority TRAX stop
The development would be located near the North Lehi planned stop, according to Utah Department of Transportation plans
Initially, the UTA planned to have a bus rapid transit system in that area, but UDOT later stepped in and proposed upgrading the stop from a BRT to a light rail stop, according to previous Building Salt Lake reporting.
The Alta Vista project is expected to be finished in the second quarter of 2027
according to the Wood Partners news release
“With its prime location in the Silicon Slopes
this development will provide residents with unparalleled access to top employers
all while offering best-in-class amenities and breathtaking mountain views,” said Marcus Robinson
Director of Development for Wood Partners Utah
Alta Vista is part of a larger development in the area dubbed Vistas at the Pointe
which will add over 200,000 square feet of commercial and retail space to the northern edge of Lehi.

“We’ve got to participate in modern housing

His proposal would change local ordinances to allow developers to build homes between 1,000 and 1,200 square feet
The homes must be owner-occupied and would not create additional tax burdens for residents
“We can generally get it to a house with no basement
and one to one-and-a-half baths for about $360,000 to $380,000,” Johnson said

“It’s relative based on their jobs,” Johnson said
“They’ve got to determine what their affordability is
but we do believe it’s going to put more people in a home.”
and he hopes the proposal will go before the city council for public input in March
LEHI — A Lehi man has been charged with faking a divorce — meaning he was married to two women at the same time — allegedly so he didn't have to pay child support to the first wife
was charged Wednesday in 4th District Court with engaging in bigamy in conjunction with a felony offense
The investigation began in February when a woman contacted police to report that "an ecclesiastical leader reached out to her inquiring as to whether she was divorced from her estranged husband
She indicated that they were separated but her husband would not agree to a divorce because he did not want to pay her child support," according to charging documents
then showed her a "certificate of divorce
or annulment" that had been given to him by Peacock
Officers then checked the Utah State Courts website and could not find an official divorce filing on that day for either Peacock or his estranged wife
"The officer did find a document showing that the couple filed for legal separation on Nov
"Due to the lack of an existing divorce case
the certificate of divorce was determined to have been forged by Wade Peacock."
Further investigation using the Utah County Clerk's website revealed "that two marriages exist under Wade Peacock's name," the charges allege
and police were able to get copies of two marriage licenses on file for Peacock

Located at the corner of Center Street and 200 West, the Romanesque Revival-style structure was considered a cultural hub and testament to spirituality, according to Lehi historians
under the direction of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

city officials are working to reimagine Lehi’s history
Last April, Lehi broke ground on a new 60,000-square-foot Civic Center Campus that will be an ode to the Lehi Tabernacle
The facility will house new City Council chambers
It will be located at the corner of 100 North and 100 East
just south of the current City Hall building
Construction on the new facility began around the middle of May 2024
installing geo-piers to help stabilize and strengthen the soil beneath the building’s foundation
Work also was done to enhance the storm drain system and add roadside parking stalls around the campus
Cement slabs have been poured and the steel framing has been erected
which is visibly noticeable from Lehi’s historic Main Street
Crews reached a milestone in the project late last month
when the final steel beam for the main tower was placed Jan
marking a big step forward in bringing the facility to life
we have watched the contractor erect the steel beams
and it is exciting to now begin to see progress on the roof and exterior of the building,” Boyle said
“As we toured through the building after the beam was set
we were pleased to see the progress on the building and look forward to its completion.”
Crews currently are in the process of installing a fire barrier and the interior framing
While the Civic Center ultimately will replace the current City Hall
However, the old Lehi library was torn down last August to make way for the new Civic Center
Boyle said that was a key phase in the project that crews faced early on
though the original plan called for the library to be demolished after the new Civic Center was completed
“The contractor determined that there wasn’t enough space around the library to allow crews to erect the building without the use of expensive equipment,” Boyle told the Daily Herald
The library was moved to a temporary location off 100 East just north of State Street in efforts to reduce the cost of construction
Boyle also noted some delays for crews acquiring supplies for the project
but he says lead contractor SIRQ Construction and VCBO Architecture have been proactive in planning ahead to mitigate the issue of long lead times for supplies
Crews also have faced minor setbacks due to weather but have adjusted accordingly
Steve Marchbanks, Lehi’s facilities director, said citizens will start to notice the building’s distinctiveness come alive within the next month and a half as progress continues
“They will start seeing trusses and the exterior skin going on the building in efforts to get the building dried in
Towards the end of March is when they will start putting the exterior brick up,” Marchbanks said
“That is when the building will feel like it is taking shape.”
The new Civic Center will feature a central tower that displays remnants of the Lehi Tabernacle
Boyle said Lehi officials felt it was important to remember the city’s history by implementing architectural elements in the Civic Center building
“Lehi has always tried to honor our past while pioneering Utah’s future,” he said
Among the other elements of the building that commemorate the city’s rich history are conference room names that reference Lehi’s heritage and traditions
Stained glass windows from the historic Fifth Ward building also will be displayed in a few conference rooms
Lehi officials anticipate the new Civic Center to be completed by the end of October

Utah (KUTV) — A mother has been charged with manslaughter after her 8-year-old son reportedly shot himself with a gun in her car in September
Jennifer Marie Pu'u took her son to a Maverik gas station in Thanksgiving Point in September
who court documents said had "special needs," alone in her van while she ran inside
The boy reportedly found a gun under the driver's seat of the car
Court documents said the boy shot himself within two minutes of Pu'u leaving the car
adding that the gun was "loaded and unsecured."
Police observed that though Pu'u said the gun was under the driver's seat
there was not enough room under the seat to fit a gun
No holster or container for the gun was found
said Pu'u had a tendency to leave guns "laying around." He told police he had told her regularly not to do so
A behavioral therapist who worked with the boy told police the 8-year-old functioned at the level of about a 2-year-old
suffering from aggression and separation anxiety
the therapist said they had seen the boy play with toy guns with his siblings and had no concept of how dangerous a real gun would be
The therapist also said they had observed unsecured guns within reach of the children on two different occasions
Pu'u was arrested on one charge of manslaughter and one charge of abuse or neglect of a child with a disability

(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Texas Instruments facility is seen in Lehi on Wednesday
Three months after Texas Instruments celebrated an award of up to $1.61 billion in federal money to help it build semiconductor factories — including its second plant in Utah — the company laid off workers at its existing facility in Lehi
The layoffs were part of changes meant to “efficiently support our long-term operational plans,” which include eliminating some roles at the site in Lehi off Timpanogos Highway
the company said in an emailed statement Friday
TI did not say how many employees were laid off but indicated the number was below the threshold for a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN Act
The federal law generally requires employers to give 60 days’ notice before a mass layoff
“While we can’t share the number of employees impacted
we can share that it didn’t meet the threshold for a WARN Notice — well less than 33% of the workforce was impacted,” the company said in a statement
Texas Instruments designs and makes semiconductors that it sells to electronics designers and manufacturers all over the world
The company is headquartered in Dallas but has design
and sales operations in more than 30 countries with around 33,000 employees worldwide
(Christopher Cherrington | The Salt Lake Tribune)
TI acquired the Lehi campus from Micron Technology for $900 million in 2021
It employed 1,100 people there as of a February 2023 announcement that the company planned to build a second 300-millimeter semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Lehi and operate the two fabs as one
As part of an agreement with the state for tax credits
high-tech jobs and invest $11 billion in Utah
Spencer Cox called the expansion the “greatest single economic investment in Utah history.”
The Dallas-based manufacturer also snagged federal funding for the new plant in the final weeks of the Biden administration. The Department of Commerce announced it had awarded Texas Instruments up to $1.61 billion under the CHIPS Act to support the construction of three state-of-the-art facilities
which will be released as it hits project milestones
also will support the construction of a cleanroom and tool installations at the new Lehi plant
The building plans for the plant are still moving through the city of Lehi’s approval process
said multiple technology companies had layoffs a few years ago and “kind of said the same thing about organizational changes.” None of them have shut their doors completely
“We don’t know Texas Instruments’ future plans or exactly what adjustments needed to be made,” she said
“We as the city have to trust that these companies know what they’re doing when they say they’re making needed adjustments.”
The statement from Texas Instruments did not cite a reason for the reorganization, but the company reported declining sales at the end of last year and forecast another drop in the first three months of 2025.
Texas Instruments has not changed its plans to remain in Utah long-term and build the second fab, the company said in the statement emailed Friday.
“Utah continues to be an important part of our manufacturing footprint and company strategy, as we build the geopolitically dependable capacity our customers will need for decades to come,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Lehi remains a “city of opportunity,” Livingston said, and officials hope those laid off from Texas Instruments can find opportunities at other companies in Lehi.
This is a developing story and will be updated. If you have been affected by the Texas Instruments layoffs and are willing to speak with a reporter, please email Megan Banta at mbanta@sltrib.com.

Herriman scored on ten straight possessions in the fourth quarter and finished 11 of 12 (92%) from the field in the final eight minutes
an astonishing display of offensive execution that seemed to end with every shot at the rim
and they end up at a 1.2,” Lehi coach Reed Bromley said

“We had a certain way we wanted to defend and and then we had kind of a fallback
Barclay led Herriman (23-2) with 21 points
Blanchard added 15 and Carlo Mulford 14 for the Mustangs

“We want to be a part of their lives and and to take from this game kind of where we go

LEHI — A five-vehicle crash caused by a wrong-way driver shut down northbound lanes of Interstate 15 on Tuesday morning
Agent Tara Stump with the Utah Department of Public Safety said there were three injuries
Officers with the Utah Highway Patrol later said one person was in critical condition following the crash
The wrong-way driver was traveling in a Dodge Charger
Troopers said the driver was a woman in her 30s
Stump said the Charger was initially traveling northbound when it sideswiped another car and then pulled to the right shoulder
Shocking dash camera footage from a driver traveling on the highway moments before the crash shows the wrong-way driver making a U-turn
apparently in an attempt to flee the initial crash
Stump said the Charger struck two other vehicles before it burst into flames
a semitruck swerved to avoid the Charger and struck another vehicle
The driver was pulled from the burning car and taken to the hospital
“One of the things we do suspect about the driver is that the driver was under the influence; unfortunately
like many of our wrong-way crashes,” said Jonathan Lopez with Utah Highway Patrol
All northbound lanes of I-15 were closed until approximately 10 a.m.
The crash also closed Lehi Main Street near I-15
Lopez said he is thankful the outcome was not worse than what it was
and is warning other drivers to make good decisions when getting behind the wheel this holiday season
Please have a designated driver and also don’t mix drugs and driving,” Lopez said
Nestled between tall brown weeds and marshy land on Lehi’s west side
or the “Old Iron Bridge” as some longtime residents refer to it
extends over a section of the Jordan River
the Jordan River Bridge is the last of several steel structures that were once situated around the city and played a vital role in early local transportation and Lehi’s rich agricultural history
To commemorate the many bridges that have crossed the Jordan River throughout the years, the Lehi Historical Society unveiled the latest in a series of historical markers at the bridge site Saturday
Dozens braved the cold and windy elements to take part in the honorary event
Long before Lehi’s days of pioneering Utah’s technology sector
citizens endured great obstacles while hauling livestock and crops across the river
The first bridge to cross the Jordan River in the Lehi area was constructed in 1853 just south of what is presently known as Main Street
a steel pony truss structure bridge was built along Main Street
but it was demolished in 1985 during an Army Corps of Engineers’ dredging project
A nearly identical bridge was constructed in 1914 to cross the river at 9600 North and 7700 West
Built for a little over $4,300 by the Midland Bridge Co.
the long-standing bridge has served many purposes over the decades
said Dan Olds of the Lehi Historical Society
“The bridge has been used for more than just crossing the river,” he said before a crowd of local officials and attendees at Saturday’s ceremony
the bridge was a popular place for local youth to cool off
Some of the braver ones would climb on the steel webbing and jump into the muddy waters; others used the bridge to fish.”
The bridge has withstood demolition training by the National Guard
It was briefly seen in the 1968 film “The Devil’s Brigade.”
Area farmer Robert Allred spoke on behalf of the many local farming families who benefited from the Jordan River Bridge
they had another access to get out west and then they would go together and run their cattle out in West Canyon,” Allred said
He thanked the historical society and all involved in celebrating the significance of Lehi’s Jordan River bridges
“It was a great opportunity to have this bridge and bless many families’ lives and it’s fun to be a part of recognizing great historical sites in the community,” he said
The Pratt pony truss bridge now sits alongside a more modern bridge made of concrete and steel after the Utah Department of Transportation agreed to bypass the 1914 bridge in favor of a new structure
the old bridge closed to motorized traffic in the late 1990s but remains intact
The Jordan River Bridge has sparked controversy over the years due to safety concerns
A fatal incident occurred in 2018 when an Alpine teen died after doing a backflip off the bridge into the river and failing to resurface
City officials at the time considered tearing the bridge down to eliminate the chances of something similar happening in the future but ultimately decided against it given the structure’s history
and it is often used by pedestrians and cyclists as part of the Jordan River Parkway
“I’m glad that we are here honoring the status of this bridge today,” said Lehi City Council member Paige Albrecht during last Saturday’s unveiling
a strong point for so many in Lehi for generations.”
Saturday’s historical marker unveiling was the seventh out of 36 to be installed at different landmarks throughout Lehi over the next three years. It’s being made possible through a Lehi PARC grant and a donation from HADCO Construction
The markers give a brief historical context for each site
said the plan is to install at least 10 more markers by the end of the year
so you’re going to get a little story at every location,” she told the Daily Herald
A list of historical markers can be found at lehihistory.org

The Lehi Ice Rink is making a return for its second year
skaters will notice more space on the rink this season
it has been expanded to 100 feet by 85 feet — half the size of a standard NHL rink,” said Jessica West
The change means the rink has grown from 5,000 square feet to 8,500 square feet
The city tried out the new activity last winter. The outdoor ice skating rink was open from the end of last November through most of last January
Officials initially said they want the rink to become a yearly tradition for people in Lehi and surrounding communities
but they also wanted to gauge the response after the first year
The chilly attraction turned out to be a hit
attracting dozens of people each night it was open
and the response was overwhelmingly positive,” West told the Daily Herald
which we have incorporated into this year’s plans to enhance the experience.”
Many of the same concessions will remain this year
Skating and speed skating classes will still be offered
as well as learning opportunities for aspiring hockey players
including Learn to Skate Hockey (introductory hockey) and Advanced Skating Skills
we are installing hockey boards and netting
allowing the rink to be rented for hockey practices,” West said
If skating on an ice rink sounds intimidating
West encourages people of all skill levels to try some of the offered programs
“Our rink is a welcoming space for beginners
with classes and staff ready to help you get comfortable on the ice,” she said
“Whether you’re looking for a new way to stay active
enjoy time with family or try something outside your comfort zone
You might discover a new hobby — and have a great time doing it!”
The ice rink is located at the Lehi Sports Complex
