I had been hearing a lot of positive buzz about a new Lenoir City restaurant, Fork & Vine
The Grub Spouse and I made it out that way recently and found it up and running in the space where Joe’s Italian used to be
Turns out that Fork & Vine specializes in Italian cuisine as well
The new operation is working out of the same floor plan
but the single dining/bar area has been spiffed up with a red color motif and a few more touches of Italian-style décor
shareable appetizers include a meat-and-cheese board
Clams Casino and Drunken Mussels (prepared with vodka and white wine)
We were most intrigued by the daily app special
Shrimp Cargot ($16) − shrimp baked with spinach
garlic and mozzarella and served with ciabatta bread
Other small portions include Italian Wedding soup and a variety of salads
there’s a modest selection of wood-fired pies and flatbreads
but The Spouse and I decided to move on and order from the pasta and entrée sections
melanzana rollatini (fried eggplant stuffed with ricotta
served over spaghetti) and Alfredo di Gallo
The Spouse picked the romano-crusted chicken Parmesan ($22) − fried chicken cutlets topped with pomodoro sauce and mozzarella and served with spaghetti
Among the entrees I spotted were chicken marsala
the chef’s fresh fish of the day and the tempting cipinno Lenoir
simmered in tomato broth and served with grilled ciabatta
by the major tagliata ($28) − a marinated beef shoulder cut (teres major)
sliced and topped with a fig balsamic glaze and served with arugula
tomatoes and artichokes as well as a portion of risotto
But when more than 20 minutes passed without the delivery of any food to our table (other than the complimentary bread and olive oil)
And when our entrees arrived without us having seen our appetizer
Our server’s explanation involved a ticketing snafu in the kitchen
and the manager on duty promptly apologized
He removed the appetizer from our tab and offered us a dessert on the house
I wasn’t crazy about missing out on the Shrimp Cargot
but I can’t complain about the way the issue was handled
but I didn’t think either rose to the level of the hype
My major tagliata plate was visually impressive
But I didn’t care for the arugula-heavy vegetable blend
the flavor of the ones I tasted didn’t quite hit the mark
The Spouse’s chicken parmesan also had its high and low points
I had no problem with the breaded poultry itself
But the slightly congealed skin of the sauce on top of the chicken suggested that the dish had sat plated under a warmer a little longer than perhaps it should have
It was white and milk chocolate mousse in a chocolate shell
I wish we’d each had our own to indulge in
Other desserts include red velvet cheesecake
fried cheesecake and a cannoli that the menu says is filled tableside
although the ones we spotted coming from the kitchen were ready to serve
Perhaps other menu selections might have yielded better results for us
I can’t give Fork & Vine the marks I was optimistic about it earning
I think it is still a viable choice compared to the preponderance of chain restaurants in Lenoir City

(WVLT) - District Attorney General Russell Johnson said authorities shut down a “major drug operation” in Lenoir City that resulted in six people being arrested
a joint effort between the 9th Judicial Drug Task Force
Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and Blount County Sheriff’s SWAT Team went to a home in the 14000 block of Beals Chapel Road in Lenoir City on Monday
Johnson said officials shut down a major drug operation that had been a “hub of criminal activity for several years” that included frequent law enforcement calls
frequent drug use and a “suspected haven for stolen property and wanted criminals.”
Johnson said authorities found the following:
the following six people were arrested on felony drug charges and other firearms charges:
“This operation is a huge win for the community
which has suffered from the ongoing decline in the area caused by this criminal activity,” Drug Task Force Deputy Director Brendan Deboer said
(WVLT) - The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man officials said has been missing since last week
who has been staying at the Lazy Acres RV Park in Lenoir City
“It’s been reported that Guy was often picked up and dropped off by someone driving a black Kia Soul
LCSO said detectives have determined the Kia was not involved in DeMasellis’s disappearance
but the driver did give them useful information
According to witness statements and surveillance footage
LCSO said DeMasellis was last seen at JB’s Gas Station on Highway 321 in Lenoir City on Monday
He was initially believed to have last been seen in late January
“While there is no indication of any criminal activity or legal trouble involving Guy
the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office detectives are continuing to seek his whereabouts to ensure his safety and well-being,” LCSO said
Those with information are being asked to call Loudon County Dispatch at 865-458-9081 or Detective Khristian Kirkland at kckirkland@lcsotn.org
The Grub Spouse had planned to accompany me but wasn’t feeling well
An employee showed me to a table and asked if I wanted to try the buffet
My plan had been to order lunch from the menu for myself and then get another dish to take home and eat later
My revised plan: Sample many items from the buffet for lunch and order an entrée from the menu for another meal
It featured several chicken-based dishes with sauce/spice variations that included saag
I also spotted vegetarian entrees items like bhindi masala
the buffet had jeera rice and crispy papad lentil chips
There was also a station for salad greens accompanied by various sauces and dressings
loading each with small samplings of most of those items
I think the only thing I didn’t try at all was the yellow tadka dal and the salad
Some of you readers may recall that I am quite the fan of Indian cuisine
and I can say that Spice Hut’s buffet selection did not disappoint
I wouldn’t have minded the inclusion of meats other than chicken
Indian food is certainly distinctive for its combinations of spices
theirs were tap-dancing all over my tongue that day
And while the buffet doesn’t go crazy with the heat (spiciness) level
my face definitely wound up feeling flushed
and I had the spice sweats by the time I was walking out the door
there’s a little bit of everything you might expect from the Indian subcontinent
It starts with a modest selection of breakfast items as well as specialties like a vegetarian Indian burger and a chicken tikka burger
I spotted a handful of tandoori-oven dishes and salads
Vegetarian entrees include quite a few paneer(cheese)-based dishes as well as malai kofta and chana masala
Among the meat dishes are desi chicken curry
The menu is also where you’ll find the naans and other breads
the samosa (two pieces for $4.99); the lamb curry ($17.99)
which comes with rice; and a serving of butter nan for $2.99
I finished off my two buffet-plate helpings and waited a few additional minutes before the to-go food was delivered to my table
I had arrived on the early end of the lunch window
and I saw quite a few other patrons arrive and either head for the buffet or pick up to-go orders while I was there
The service was decent; my server did a fine job bringing drinks
clearing plates and generally checking on my welfare
The menu does offer a trio of desserts - royal faluda
gulab jamun and ras malai - but by that point
I did save enough gastro-space to sample the to-go order when I got back to The Grub House
The vegetable samosa was still hot and delicious
swimming in an exotic sauce that I had requested at a level 7 of spiciness (out of 10)
delivering a noticeable afterburn that stopped short of discomfort
the generous serving of oven-fired naan was on the mark
and the aromatic rice was the ideal accompaniment for the lamb curry
I don’t know how far you Indian-food fans are willing to travel to get your fix
but if Lenoir City works for you as a destination or a travel stop
be sure to stop by Spice Hut and find out what all the fireworks are about
This Lenoir City restaurant serves tasty and spicy Indian cuisine both off the menu and in a daily buffet

LENOIR CITY — Before tears were shed by both the winners and losers in the 98th “Battle of the Bridge,” the tension in Lenoir City’s football stadium was palpable
With 2:02 left in the fourth quarter and down by a point
the Panthers marched from their own 5-yard line to Loudon’s 9-yard line
Loudon stopped the 26-yard field goal attempt with 2.9 seconds left and escaped with a 7-6 win
“I was hands on the ground praying,” Loudon quarterback Bronson Scrivner said of the last play
Scrivner's ear heard the Loudon fans explode in cheers
He also felt the tears of joy trickle down his face as his special teams unit swarmed the kicker to block his attempt
Loudon (2-0) now leads the all-time series 55-42-1
“It means everything,” Loudon coach Jeff Harig said as he watched his players' euphoria
This is as good as it gets for these guys
Scrivner had 15 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown
He also had 31 passing yards and an interception
Loudon junior running back Levi Russell had 17 carries for 96 yards
Lenoir City junior kicker Riley Pickett completed 2-of-3 field goals
The Loudon defense was the biggest standout from the game
“I would be lying if I didn’t tell you how proud I was as a dad,” Harig said
“My son was our defensive coordinator tonight and he brought this win home.”
he was a multiyear starting quarterback for Loudon
Grit through failed opportunities Loudon trailed 6-0 after the first half and had several chances to progress down the field but faltered due to drop passes
It had three fourth downs that it went for in the red zone
All three chances were stopped by Lenoir City (1-1)
“We just felt like if we kept sticking in there persevering

That break finally came as Loudon was on the goal line once again
and Scrivner shoved through the Lenoir City defensive line for the touchdown with 6:50 remaining in the game
“I never had a doubt that we would lose,” Scrivner said
Harig described the emotional and psychological weight of the rivalry contest as a “season to itself.”
“Now we’ll regroup and it’s always better to regroup from a win,” Harig said
“I feel bad for (Lenoir City) because I know how it feels over there
But now we’ll put this thing back together and go play for a region championship
