According to an update from Lenoir County Public Information Officer Bryan Hanks 24-year-old Calvin Kennion of Pink Hill has died at ECU Health Medical Center.
It happened yesterday on Carl Ball Lane, that’s off Highway 55 in the Moss Hill area of Lenoir County.
Deputies say Ross Smith broke into the home around 8:30 a.m. where he shot and killed his estranged wife, Latoya Smith. Also, a dog was wounded in the shooting.
The 35-year-old Smith left the home and deputies say his vehicle was found on Stroud Avenue in Kinston.
Smith was eventually arrested near the Highway 903 and Highway 11 intersection in Pitt County around 11:30 a.m., according to a news release.
Ross Smith was charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, felony breaking and entering, and felony animal cruelty. Now Smith will be charged with another felony count of first degree murder.

Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers says there is no threat to the public
and the suspect is in the process of being booked
sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the neighborhood at around 8:30 Friday morning
investigators say they found 33-year-old Latoya Smith shot and killed
and 24-year-old Calvin Kennion and a dog both suffering from a gunshot wound
died at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville
Sheriff Rogers says the suspect was identified as Smith’s estranged husband
who Sheriff Rogers says left the scene in a black Chrysler sedan
Smith will be charged with two counts of First Degree Murder
Neighbors declined to talk on camera but told us it’s always been a very quiet neighborhood

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office is in search of a man accused of setting a fire in La Grange on the morning of Monday
Warrants were obtained by deputies for Charles Edward Sutton
after an investigation into the fire at West King Street in La Grange that morning
Officials say investigators were sent to the location for a structure fire around 1 a.m.
deputies collected information that led them to believe the fire was intentionally set
The LCSO has warrants for Sutton for attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson
Sutton is known to drive a light blue 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with North Carolina tags: TKF-2676

Two Lenoir County men already behind bars were issued warrants for their arrest as the result of a narcotics investigation by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Narcotic’s Unit
were each charged with three counts of trafficking opium/heroin and one count of conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin
currently in the Lenoir County Jail for charges by the LCSO’s General Investigations Division
was served his warrant and received an additional $250,000 secured bond
The LCSO was unable to serve Farmer with his warrant due to him currently serving a prison sentence for a narcotics conviction
He was incarcerated April 21 for a sentence of four-to-14 months at the Piedmont Prison in Salisbury for the crime in which he pled guilty on March 29
