She worked at the Swiss Shop in Lake Placid for many years
then went to work at Altman’s in Saranac Lake before retiring
making hats and mittens for North Elba Christmas charity
celebrating 53 years of marriage prior to his death April 13
Leola was also predeceased by daughter Kathleen DeMaro
grandchildren Shellie Fredericks and Travis Trippi
She is survived by her son Leon (Denise) Fredericks of Lake Placid
grandchildren Cheri (Max) Lyon of Lake Placid

and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home on April 19
2025 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City with Reverend Ben Wolfe officiating
There will be a visitation from 12:45-1:45 p.m
Burial will take place at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston
Leola married her husband of 64 years Olaf “John” Larsen on August 26
they were known as Jo & John or Gram & Poppy
they set the bar and example of what true love and living for one another truly was!!
Leola all be it short in stature (4’6”) was a giant in everyone’s heart from her days of running the church daycare program at the First Congregational Church of Bayshore to her time spent in Charleston
Leola is now nestled in Heaven’s warmth with her parents
Leola leaves to live in her guidance and memory
Sophia and Alex and spouses; and a great-great-grandchild
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Gram’s special people Teresa and Jodi “JoJo”
Teresa is gram’s grand daughter-in-law
and was Gram’s voice and truly “her person”
The love Gram had for Teresa was like no other
Gram’s mornings always started with a “Teresa Good Morning”
Jodi was a true blessing over the last months and Gram loved her deeply and was so happy every day she came to see her

passed away February 3 at Saint Benedict’s Nursing Home in Dickinson
She is survived by children Connie Evans of Olympia
ND; eight grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren
Husband Hugo passed away in 2014 and son David in 2019
and together raised four children and did farming just outside Red Lodge
They were partners in life and their farm business
Leola was also a 4-H leader and secretary of their bowling league and the West Fork Irrigation Company
“I sure had a great life.” She will be missed
She was attended by loving family members and friends
the daughter of Holger and Inez (nee Gillett) Peterson
and is preceded in death by sisters Christiana and Helen
Ralph died in a motor vehicle accident on December 18
They remained together until his death in December 2020 in Casa Grande
and worked in many different positions and departments
Leola and Gerry enjoyed traveling in their mobile home
from the Arctic Circle to the southern U.S
and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean
Leola and Gerry were frequently accompanied by friends and family on their journeys
Remaining to cherish Leola’s memory are three of her children
Ginger and Keiagane; great-great granddaughter
and a reception to celebrate her life will be held on April 26

to Martin and Agnes (Koenig) Koenig. She was baptized and confirmed and Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar and was a graduate of the church’s grade school. After a Lutheran League gathering
at Ewald’s Bar-B-Q in Perryville. They were married September 6
and they followed his work in the communities of Perryville
and Cape Girardeau. In the mid-1960’s
they settled and raised their family in Jackson.
Leola took great pride in being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker. She had the Perry County knack for making coffee cake and enjoyed canning fruit and produce. Her other talents included crocheting
and sewing. After her children were older
she was employed at the Lutheran Home.
She and Paul are current members of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. They are former members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and St
Terry (Kara) Scholl of Jackson; Sharon (Jim) McMillan of Herrin
Illinois; and Kevin (LaVanda) Scholl of Arnold
Erica (Clay) Rouse and children Jack and Claire; Brendan Scholl; and Madison (Jake) Mayfield of Cape Girardeau

cultivating vibrant spaces that brought joy to all who visited
Her creativity also extended to crafting and decorating
skills she shared with her family and friends
leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered
known for her popcorn balls at Halloween and fudge and cookies at Christmas
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband

SD. She graduated from Garretson High School in 1944 as a Salutatorian. She attended Augustana College for 9 months then attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls. She married Harvey Graff at the Palisades Lutheran Church on September 20
east of Garretson where she was baptized and confirmed.
Leola worked as a bookkeeper at a medical clinic in Boulder
while Harvey attended Pharmacy school at the University of Colorado
She then worked for 20 years as an Administrative Assistant in Financial Aid at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion
she was a volunteer for the South Dakota Department of Tourism at the Vermillion I-29 rest stop
they moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to their two sons and five grandchildren
Leola was a volunteer at Sioux Valley Hospital and was also a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls

(WHP) — A Leola man is facing child pornography charges after more than a million inappropriate photos of children were allegedly found in his home
23 after Manheim Township Police investigated a CyberTipline report about a file containing suspected child pornography
Officers said they traced the IP address back to Geist
who reportedly denied having any child pornography
Police obtained a warrant to search electronics from Geist's home and found "many" photos and videos of child sex abuse material
Officers also allegedly found more than one million photos of children dressed in "erotic clothing and posing in sexual positions"
Geist is charged with four counts of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility
and court records indicate he is out on a $50,000 unsecured bail

they moved to the farm 1/2 mile east of Boyden
Leola was employed at Demco for over 20 years
John and Leola spent many summers camping and enjoyed special friends and fellowship around the campfires at Oak Grove Park
Family was very important to John and Leola
They enjoyed attending their family’s sporting and music activities
We all gathered around the kitchen table for many Sunday dinners
Some of her favorite things to do were quilting in early retirement days
The kids and grandkids always requested her bread pudding and pies
John entered the nursing home in 2014 and during this time
Leola spent every afternoon with him until his passing on March 30
Survivors include three daughters and spouses: Laura and Dwayne Van Meeteren

Later following Ralph’s death she lived in Wilmington
NC with her daughter Karen and then later in Cornelius
TN and Sanda Lotshaw Micken (Rob ) in Helena
In addition to being a very involved parent
Ann served as a volunteer in several organizations including the Junior League of Parkersburg
and the PEO organization in both Florida and NC
She is also survived by two great grandchildren
Ann was preceded in death by her loving spouse of 61 years
She passed away in the presence of her children and two of her granddaughters

(WHP) — A Leola man was found guilty Tuesday of raping a 12-year-old in 2018 at a home in West Lampeter Township
involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child
the victim expressed forgiveness while Barker only spoke about himself

Police said Barker was between the ages of 40 and 44 when the abuse occurred and in a caregiving role toward the then 12-year-old
telling her he wanted to “teach her how to use her body correctly.”
“All sex abusers are cowards and bullies,” said Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick
“He’s trying to intimidate my victim one last time like he did when she was a little girl
[The victim] was incredibly brave to take the stand
She isn’t scared of him anymore and he can’t bully her anymore.”
