(WPVI) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday night in Lindenwold near the intersection of East Gibbsboro Road and South Emerson Avenue Police say the vehicle that hit the victim stayed at the scene No further details on the crash were immediately available LINDENWOLD — Peter Pullella grew up working in his mom and dad’s pizza shop on the Wildwood boardwalk Peter Pullella bought his own shop in Lindenwold — and for a time even lived in the apartments above the store — and maintained it for 38 years Pullella’s Pizza Parlor was a mainstay at 2 North Berlin Road in Lindenwold It was a gathering place and one where many made memories over the years But Peter Pullella said he had to close the business recently because of his health There has been interest from prospective buyers or renters so there’s a good chance that some type of restaurant will still operate at the location at some point “It’s our last day,” Peter Pullella said Dec “I doubt very much that I’ll be reopening it due to my health We are talking to a couple people about either renting or buying the property I would imagine that it would most likely be some type of food establishment This is not the way I planned on going out.” said the community has been so supportive over the years That support has been greatly appreciated since her husband’s illness “My husband’s been here all these years and he developed chondrosarcoma Our pizza guy was here six days a week and then his brother would come up one day a week to relieve the pizza guy This has been like a family community in this area We’re very grateful for all them for all these years they’ve given us.” Peter Pullella’s parents were Italian immigrants who came to the United States and made their way.His wife said his parents taught him a lot about hard work and sacrifice and running a business “They were immigrants and they settled in Camden,” Lena Pullella said they met somebody and they taught them how to make pizza and they opened a shop .. His parents had this steak and pizza shop there for years They sold it and the people still kept that name “Then they went on the Wildwood boardwalk for 30 some years There’s a lot of sacrifices he (Peter) made All through his high school years and everything." Peter Pullella said that he was the youngest of seven children and that his parents’ first pizzeria was located at 132 Cuthbert Blvd “They sold that in 1974 and opened a pizzeria on the Wildwood boardwalk for 30 years,” he added “I worked with them from age of 13 to 24 on the boardwalk That’s where I spent my summers all growing up.” It was in a sheriff’s sale and was a complete mess It took him a year to put the property in order “It was basically the worst property in Lindenwold,” said Peter Pullella who initially opened the restaurant with his sister Janie before buying her out I had a backhoe come in and level the whole outside of the property.” “It was uninhabited property and he purchased it did all the work and opened it as a pizzeria (when) he was 25 years old,” Lena Pullella said Peter Pullella said the sign on the outside of the building mentions 1987 It was originally an old house that was zoned commercial.” Consider a digital subscription to help support our journalism .st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By John Lewis | For NJ Advance MediaAlicia Chila notched nine strikeouts in a four-inning no-hitter as Paulsboro rolled to a 19-1 win over Lindenwold in Paulsboro Chila issued just one walk on the way to her second no-hitter in as many days She held Penns Grove without a hit in a 17-0 victory a day earlier Lily Paulsen added a double and four RBIs and Scarlette Lucci had two hits John Lewis can be reached at hssports@njadvancemedia.com The N.J. The mansion was remodeled around 1912 to resemble Windsor Castle, according to the auction listing bought the property in 2019 and originally hoped to use it as offices the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth Poncia later hoped during the pandemic that it might become a single-family home bigger projects have since taken precedence adding that Poncia has spent about $3 million to renovate the property including on fire safety and electrical work Poncia developed the entire Mattison Estates site selling off a residential component for townhouses as well as the senior retirement community The site is named for Richard Mattison, who founded Keasbey & Mattison, an asbestos manufacturer that put Ambler on the map, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. With this newer design the exterior coloring has been lightened I believe most existing area Popeyes restaurants such as in Lawnside and Washington Township are more of a dark beige (terra cotta?) exterior with red accents For the Lindenwold approval there were a few variances requested but mostly related to signage.  Overall it’s a large property for the development so it seems like most traditional aspects of a fast food approval such as number of parking spaces and buffers… were accounted for The fact that this is out for construction bids (due back early October) is actually a significant milestone in that it liekly means all of the approvals necessary for this development have been completed The White Horse Pike is a US Highway which basically crosses the entire country In the State of New Jersey it is maintained by the New Jersey Department of Transportation… which means the project’s access onto the White Horse Pike required the additional approval of the NJDOT (which can add additional delays to a project start date) So again… seeing this project going out to construction bid likely means it’s been fully approved and there are no external aspects that would halt construction I’ve written recently about two other proposed Popeyes restaurant locations in our area; Runnemede and Winslow (Cross Keys Road) Up to now we’ve seen no activity on those other projects and I do not have an update on them… so it’s nice to see actual movement getting ready to take place in Lindenwold Popeyes Lindenwold (Planned)701 S White Horse PikeLindenwold NJ Storage Facility on White Horse Pike in Magnolia Starts Development Route 42 North Bellmawr Lanes Shift To Right Capitol riot as "a badge of honor," has received a five-year prison term Michael Oliveras, 51, had sought a much shorter sentence with six months of home confinement as part of two years on supervised release.
