(WHP) — A Lititz man and New Oxford-based trucking company were recently sentenced for a scheme officials say violated the Clean Air Act
worked as a mechanic at an Ephrata diesel repair shop and would tamper with vehicles’ emissions diagnostic systems
“defeating the systems’ ability to reduce pollutant gases,” according to the U.S
Martin also worked for Frock Brothers Trucking
a long-distance trucking company that delivers freight and other products
Martin and the trucking company conspired to tamper with the emissions control hardware of eight vehicles
Officials said the trucking company would remove the vehicles’ engine control modules and ship them to Martin
and ship them back to be reinstalled in the trucks
“As a result of the emissions systems tampering
Frock Brothers vehicles emitted excess emissions
including nitrogen oxides and particulate matter
into the atmosphere,” the Department of Justice said in a news release
Officials said Martin and the trucking company committed the illegal actions for economic benefits like
fuel savings from improved fuel economy on modified vehicles
and reduced expenditures on diesel exhaust fluids required to operate emissions systems components.”
Martin was sentenced by a U.S District Court judge to two years of probation with three months of a home curfew
was sentenced to two years of probation and an $80,000 fine

Audrey was a Lititz native and an active member of the Lititz Moravian Church for over 60 years
She loved the town of Lititz and contributed to helping her neighbors and supporting those in need through her volunteer work at the Church
She was a fervent prayer warrior for her family & faithfully followed the Moravian church prayer lists
Audrey received her licensed practical nursing degree (LPN) from Lancaster General Hospital in 1958
but her main focus quickly became her family
Audrey’s strong faith and trust in Jesus was the center of her life
her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy
Always loving & instrumental in her grandchildren’s lives whether being a last-minute sitter for a sick child or traveling around the country to watch a grandchild so they could travel with their working mom
Cooking delicious morsels in Nana’s Kitchen was routine
Audrey was also a formidable competitor on the tennis court
She loved the game and shared that love through teaching many of her children & grandchildren how to play
She loved to take her grandchildren to Lititz springs park to feed the ducks and play
She sat on the floor engrossed in play with the grandchildren when they visited
Her love radiated and overflowed making each one know they were special and loved

he was the son of the late Jay Thomas and Betsy Jo Haines Stauffer
He was a 1977 graduate of Warwick High School
Admired for his woodworking skills and craftsmanship
that took him up and down the east coast installing fine custom cabinets
He built three of his own homes in the Lititz area
including a very unique yurt he designed and assembled himself
Jeff loved spending time in nature; hunting whitetail and other game
fishing secluded mountain streams and hiking through deep snow tracking a buck
He shot and carried out his last whitetail with his favorite muzzleloading long rifle a week before his passing
finding the steepest black diamond tree skiing runs in Vermont
or chasing his son down a gnarly mountain bike trail
His body was a tree magnet on some of those occasions
He loved taking in the sunset on the porch of his aunt and uncle’s cottage on Gun Point Cove
and steaming a pot of freshly caught lobster for dinner
he could often be found at his favorite coffee shops in Lititz
and of course catching up with the latest news
It would seem erroneous not to mention that Jeff had an enthusiastic passion for motorized vehicles
“As often as one changes underwear,” he regularly returned home with a new car
He could always find a reason to get his family together; for a steak cookout
a blueberry pancake breakfast with his homemade maple syrup
he was never too shy to throw in some of his favorite dance moves
and making his seven grandkids laugh brought him joy
“Pepa Jeff” and “Papoo,” as he was affectionately called
father and grandfather to a level that left a lasting legacy
his walk with the Lord was evident in many ways
His selfless demeanor always shone bright with a smile
Sharing the love of his Savior was always on his heart
His final desire in this life was that God be given the Glory in all things
Surviving besides his wife is his daughter
and seven grandchildren; two brothers: Jay Thomas
husband of Cindy Stauffer of Lititz and David Stauffer of Colorado; and three sisters: Kathy
Visitation will follow the service at the church

The reasons for the closure remain officially undisclosed, as well as resulted in confusion from local patrons. In May of 2024 they posted an image on social media containing the following text
WITH THE SALE OF SAINT BONIFACE WE WANT TO CLARIFY ANY MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH TIED HOUSE
WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL AND WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE GREAT FOOD AND DRINKS FOR YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS
TIED HOUSE IS FOR SALE BUT WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS OR CLOSING THE DOORS
WE CANNOT BEGIN TO COMMUNICATE HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT THROUGH THE YEARS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON
Fast forward just a few months later and from seemingly out of nowhere a contradictory announcement from above was made of the business just closing it’s doors without much notice
In 2021, Tied House found itself in the center of a community uproar when it agreed to host an event for the Mid Atlantic Reformation Society
known for its ties to white nationalism and Christian extremism
drew significant backlash from locals and beyond
The decision to host the event led to protests
and a severe strain on the restaurant’s reputation
While the event itself did not directly cause the closure
it undoubtedly contributed to a negative public image and may have alienated potential customers
The controversy highlighted a broader conversation about the role of businesses in community spaces and the ethical implications of hosting certain groups
The closing of Tied House marks a significant change for the Lititz community
The restaurant was more than just a dining establishment; it was a gathering place for locals and visitors alike
