LOCUST GROVE (OKLAH) KTUL) — Violence broke out and racial slurs were said at a high school soccer game earlier this week
"Telling us to go back to our country
kind of rubbing it in our face that we lost 1-0
It rubbed salt on the wound from that moment on," Xavier Escareno
Daniel Webster High School's soccer team captain
said. The game that happened Tuesday night against Locust Grove was not how he expected it to end
He adds that the competition got more intense
a lot of trash talking comes involved with everything that's how the sport is," he said
he showed News Channel 8 a video from after the game of who he says is a Locust Grove parent pushing one of his teammates
This comes after he said Locust Grove players yelled racial slurs at him and his teammates
"I shook hands with the coach and apologized for what happened
He's telling them to stop talking to go to the locker room
I heard our teammates say what did you say?" Escareno recalled
News Channel 8 tried calling Locust Grove several times on Thursday to get a comment
but when you try to get to administration the phone just hangs up
Tulsa Public Schools said they'll continue to address the situation as they learn more and said in a statement
"We are aware of an incident that occurred following competition in Locust Grove
We take the safety of our players and fans with the upmost seriousness and expect all Tulsa Public Schools athletes
and fans to be treated with the same respect we expect of our own teams
Escareno said no one wins when there's racism involved
"When it comes to un-sportsmanship and racism at the same time
that's where we cross the line," he said,News Channel 8 was told the Mayes County Sheriff's Office was called

— A Locust Grove High School boys soccer home win April 15 was marred by claims of racism and even assault by parents of players
Despite a late scuffle of words between players, the match finished a 1-0 win for the Pirates over Daniel Webster High School of Tulsa
and members of Webster's team allege the other side's parents reacted with an assault and anti-immigrant insults
"We have players here who have families who are immigrants," Webster team captain Xavier Escareno told 2 News the next day
So they take it really personally when they hear those sort of words said to them."
Escareno said the initial confrontation just before the end of the game involved a Locust Grove player calling his teammate a common anti-Mexican slur. The talking continued after the final whistle when the teams left the field
A referee report quotes Webster's coach complaining that parents from Locust Grove got involved and laid hands on at least one Webster player
Escareno said that's not all that happened
"There was a mom that...didn't hit but she kind of was trying to like
like right in front of me - she just aggressively (pushed my teammate)
It was a loud smack to the face when she pushed him," he said
'Go back to your country,' all that stuff."
Tulsa Public Schools told 2 News it's still gathering more details
Locust Grove Public Schools Superintendent Dan Stokes said on the phone his district is investigating the incident but wouldn't elaborate further
Locust Grove shared this statement on April on 18:
Mayes County Sheriff's Office told 2 News it contracts deputies for LGPS to serve as school resource officers and to patrol outside of school hours
Ron Howell said deputies are only present for non-football sporting events on an as-need basis
Witnesses told 2 News there was not a police presence at the match
The sheriff's office confirmed it also is investigating complaints of an assault
"We wanna make sure we're all on the same sheet of music before we start you know
"Because we've got to get all the facts and circumstances for certain."
OSSAA told 2 News it was still receiving reports from the match but added that any activity off the field would be considered outside of its discipline
There have also been angry reactions online about claims from the incident
Witnesses said there was at least one amateur video taken
but 2 News has yet to get permission to access it
Escareno said what his team allegedly experienced has left them shaken
"We went over there to try to have fun with it
"We left with the opposite of the ending that we wanted."
Multiple Locust Grove High School parents messaged 2 News after the original story's airing
stating that 2 News didn't show the whole truth and that they want to set the record straight
2 News planned to meet with multiple parents on April 18
but was told by one they were stuck at work and couldn't speak
Another parent planned to come forward but said they had to back out
They also denied any racist insults were shouted
and that parents only tried to block Webster players from attacking their kids
2 News was also told more video would be submitted from parents clearing them of any serious wrongdoing

The man tried to chew on a penny to mask the smell of the alcohol

KHS season ends with 52-39 loss in 4A quarterfinals
Taylor Young knew her team needed a good start to overcome a six-point deficit in the Class 4A girls state quarterfinals
Locust Grove’s Tatum Stokes made back-to-back 3-pointers to give her team a 12-point lead - its largest to that point
Kingfisher never fully recovered in what ended up a 52-39 defeat to the fourthranked Lady Pirates at State Fair Arena
“That was the turning point,” said Young of Stokes’ two shots

The fifth-ranked Lady Jackets ended their campaign with a 22-7 mark
Despite shooting 37.5 percent - which included 1 of 7 from 3-point range - and committing 11 turnovers in the first half
Kingfisher was only down 21-15 at the break
The Lady Jackets used a triangle-and-two defense to start the game
the first time all season they haven’t opened in man-to-man
“They had size and length along with their point guard who could really shoot it from anywhere on the floor,” Young said
“We tried to throw something at them they have not seen all year long to throw them off balance.”
Locust Grove had just seven field goals and eight turnovers in the first half
Abbie Myers was keeping KHS in it as the junior scored 10 of Kingfisher’s points by the half
Her bucket with 4:19 left in the second quarter got Kingfisher within 17-15
But Locust Grove scored four straight to end the half
then pushed its run to 10-0 with the Stokes 3-pointers to start the third quarter
Kingfisher didn’t fold despite being down 13 points with 1:20 left in the third
Raegan Snider and Mattie Slezickey combined to go 4 of 4 from the free throw line and
Maya Haney drew a charge on the oppo-site end
Snider weaved her way down the court and laid it off the glass as time expired
Kingfisher closed the quarter with the 6-0 run to pull within seven
Locust Grove got it back to 11 points in the fourth
Reese Roof made a 3-pointer at the midway points of the fourth and later- after a lull in scoring by both teams - Snider scored in the paint and Slezickey added more free throws
The 7-2 run by Kingfisher got it within 44-38 with 1:01 to play
The Lady Pirates went 6 of 6 from the free throw line in the final 45 seconds and also scored with an offensive set to close on an 8-1 run
The Lady Pirates were 7 of 8 from the foul line in the fourth and 12 of 14 (85.7 percent) for the game
After struggling offensively themselves in the first half
they shot 55.6 percent in the second half to finish at 17 of 37 (45.9 percent) for the game
Locust Grove also got 10 points from Henley Pickup
nine from Claire Hooker and eight points and nine boards out of Hannah Bond

Myers finished with 13 points to lead the team
Snider scored 11 and led the squad with five boards
Roof scored seven while Ela Hartman and Slezickey chipped in four apiece
“Raegan has had a great career,” Young said
“She’s the first KHS girls basketball player to go to three state tournaments in her four years in over 20 years
“I am excited to see her continue her career at Northwestern (Oklahoma State University).”
Young has been with Snider for the entire journey
having guided Kingfi sher to those three state tournament trips in her four years
Her fifth squad at Kingfi sher will see the return of a large majority of this year’s roster
I am already looking forward to seeing what goals they set out to accomplish next year,” Young said
