With Saints QB Derek Carr dealing with a shoulder injury that could affect his availability for the 2025 season
the GMFB crew debates what the team will do at the position as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches
New Orleans enters draft week with major questions at quarterback
The Saints' starter for the last two seasons, Derek Carr, might be unavailable for the upcoming campaign due to a shoulder injury
9 overall pick at its disposal and an aging
New Orleans is considered a top landing spot for a first-round signal-caller
Ahead of Thursday's opening round of the 2025 NFL Draft
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis shed some light on the plans under center but mostly held things close to the vest
"He does have an issue with his shoulder," Loomis said Wednesday
confirming NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport's report from earlier this month
"We're hoping to get some resolution and clarity on that in the near future
I don't have any more to state about Derek."
barring a veteran addition or the arrival of a draft pick
Loomis avoided most probing questions about the nature of Carr's injury but clarified that the QB's murky situation doesn't affect New Orleans' draft plans
"I don't think the draft approach for us is any different than it would be in any year," the longtime Saints GM said
We're fortunate enough this year to have multiple picks in the first four rounds
and we're excited about that because I think there's some depth in this draft that will be able to help our roster."
Whether Loomis considers Sanders or Dart worthy of a top 10 selection
we're gonna count on this guy for the next eight to 10 years and he's gonna fill that spot and we're not gonna have to worry about it," Loomis said
but sometimes it might be a guy that just … we can sleep at night because we've got that position covered for the next eight to 10 years."
the Saints have not picked inside the top 10 since 2008 when Loomis and Co
grabbed defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis at No
Ellis lasted just five seasons in New Orleans and the league
With a lack of clarity at the game's most important position
Loomis isn't letting on as to whether signal-caller is top of mind just one day out from a critical first round
"I think there's guys that are good quarterbacks
really good quarterbacks," the Saints GM told reporters
"I don't know that the quantity is the same that it is some other years
"One thing about that position: I think you fall in love with somebody

The former Colorado quarterback was in a yard surrounded by family when someone called his phone
is heard yelling "there he go" with excitement in the background
"We're going to take you with our next pick right here
but you're going to have to wait a little bit longer
Shedeur was confused moments before his brother
Shedeur was still confused because he said he bought a phone and exclusively gave it to NFL teams to call him during the draft
Shedeur then sat on the couch next to his father waiting for the announcement before getting anxious
Someone tossed Shedeur a football and he got up and started playing catch
before New Orleans announced its selection
When the pick was announced as Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough
Shedeur's loved ones all sighed in disappointment
You can watch the full exchange and reaction to the prank phone call on Well Off Media
Deion has said multiple times before the draft that he liked Shedeur's fit with the Saints

Saints head coach Kellen Moore addressed his pick of Shough over Shedeur
"He was right in those conversations," Moore said of Shedeur

you’ve got to make a decision and we felt like Tyler was the one for us ..
These guys never make it easy because it’s a bunch of good quarterbacks coming into this league each and every year
So we had to go through that process and have conversations all the way up through today (Friday) leading up to it."
Deion offered more words on Friday night as Shedeur
widely regarded as a top-three quarterback prospect in the draft alongside No
continued to slide into the third and final day of the NFL Draft
after Shilo and Shedeur both anticipated what their father would say next

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport doesn’t believe ownership sees it the same way as fans
merely equating to mild pressure on Loomis
Davenport wrote
“An argument can be made that the Saints need a change
ownership has shown no indication that Loomis’ job is in real jeopardy.”
Kellen Moore very well could be Loomis' final shot
Considering the first one burned spectacularly
it may be hard for Loomis justifying a third opportunity
The past three years have eroded what used to be a well-built reputation for Loomis
he was considered among the best at his job in the game
But that was then—and this is now," Davenport detailed
If that reputation continues to deteriorate through any of the aforementioned offenses or new issues
he has the second coolest seat in the division behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers' general manager Jason Licht
New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and new head coach Kellen Moore voiced their support Wednesday for Derek Carr as the team’s quarterback in 2025
Loomis showed a level of commitment to Carr that was lacking during Moore’s introductory press conference
While the first-time head coach said Carr is “a tremendous quarterback in this league,” he did not guarantee anything regarding his starting status and emphasized that he’s “excited to team up with him and go through this process … just like any player on this roster.” Moore’s comments were more definitive during his combine availability Wednesday
and he’s a big-time quarterback in this league,” Moore said
is entering his third season in New Orleans after signing a four-year
Injuries derailed last season as he missed a career-high seven games with abdomen and hand injuries
five interceptions and a 67.7 completion percentage
Still, all five of the Saints’ wins last season came with Carr under center
The Saints went 0-7 with a 17.5-point average margin of defeat in games started by backups Spencer Rattler (0-6) and Jake Haener (0-1)
Carr led the team to a winning 9-8 record in 2023
which is tied for the best single-season performance for the Saints since Drew Brees retired
All three quarterbacks remain on the roster ahead of the new league year and free agency on March 12

Texas — The retiring superintendent of Amarillo Independent School District is being honored by the establishment of a professorship and an endowed scholarship in his name
who earned his master’s in education from WT
announced in October that he would retire effective June 30
“Doug Loomis has provided almost four decades of teaching and administrative leadership in Amarillo ISD,” said WT President Walter V
“Doug’s service to district students
and teachers as superintendent is to be commended
Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences with both a scholarship and professorship focusing on preparing the next generation of schoolteachers and administrators is an excellent way to highlight the good work being done throughout Amarillo ISD.”
Loomis said he is “deeply honored and profoundly humbled by the establishment of this professorship and scholarship in my name at West Texas A&M University.”
“WT and AISD have each influenced my life in ways I could never fully articulate—shaping not only the educator I have become but
From my days as a graduate student to the privilege of serving this remarkable community
these two institutions have instilled in me a strong sense of purpose
and a heart dedicated to service,” Loomis said
“I am truly grateful for this recognition. My hope is that it creates opportunities for others
just as education has opened countless doors for me
It serves as a powerful reminder that when we invest in people, we shape futures. As an educator, there is no higher purpose.”
established with funds from an anonymous donor
creates a $125,000 endowment to be assigned to a faculty member at a later date
The scholarship will be established with a $25,000 endowment principal
Contributions to the scholarship are welcomed
Donations can be accepted online at wtamu.edu/one-west/give.html
Select “Give Now,” and under “designation,” type “Doug Loomis Scholarship.”
Gifts also may be made via check made payable to WTAMU Foundation for the Doug Loomis Scholarship
“I am thrilled that Doug’s legacy as an educator will continue at WT through these two endowments named for him,” said Dr
Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences at WT
“Our commitment to educating teachers for schools across the Panhandle and the state of Texas
is enhanced through support for students and faculty.”
Loomis has spent more than four decades in the Amarillo Independent School District
making an impact across the district and working in schools in every quadrant and at every level
He began as a physical education teacher at Wolflin Elementary School
then taught science and health at Fannin Middle School
he served as assistant principal at Sam Houston Middle School
assistant principal at Palo Duro High School
and then executive director over the Caprock cluster of schools
which includes Caprock High School and its 13 feeder schools
He also served five years as the district’s chief human resources officer before being named interim superintendent in October 2018
The AISD School Board named him Superintendent in March 2019
Loomis is a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University
Endowed professorships enhance opportunities for faculty members by providing additional resources which can be applied to teaching
WT boasts nearly 90 endowed professorships
offering faculty additional funding for research
about 60 new professorships and chairs have been endowed throughout the University—an increase of more than 200 percent during the campaign
WT opened in 1910 as West Texas State Normal College
about 75 percent of all teachers and administrators throughout the Panhandle region have at least one degree or certificate from WT
Training educators is still a vital mission of the University, as laid out in its long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign
which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021
The campaign’s new goal is to reach $175 million by 2025; currently
as well as the Harrington Academic Hall WTAMU Amarillo Center in downtown Amarillo
the University has been part of The Texas A&M University System since 1990
boasts an enrollment of more than 9,000 and offers 66 undergraduate degree programs
including eight associate degrees; and 44 graduate degrees
including an integrated bachelor’s and master’s degree
a specialist degree and two doctoral degrees
The University is also home to the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum
the largest history museum in the state and the home of one of the Southwest’s finest art collections
The Buffaloes are a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference and offers 14 men’s and women’s athletics programs
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis opened his pre-draft news conference Wednesday with non-draft news on quarterback Derek Carr
"Derek Carr has an issue with his shoulder
we're looking for some resolution and clarity on that in the near future," Loomis said
Beyond that Loomis offered no further elaboration on Carr
"I'm just not going to answer any more questions about Derek," Loomis said
then I'm more than happy to answer those."
"You're always wanting to take swings and develop the position," Loomis said
I think the thing that you have to really resist is over-drafting and taking someone way sooner
"If we take somebody way sooner than maybe we should have
we missed out on whatever player that may be in the Pro Bowl
"We like (Rattler and Haener) as prospects
(But) I think all teams are in the business of quarterbacks
"The guys you fall in love with at that position
are going to be taken in the top seven or eight
That doesn't mean you can't find a really good quarterback later
it's more speculative and there's more development that's required
I think that's the difference between taking someone in the top five or six vs
New Orleans currently is scheduled to draft nine players: A first rounder (No. 9 overall), a second (No. 40), two thirds (71 and 93), two fourths (112 and 131), a sixth (184) and two sevenths (248 and 254).
"I don't think the draft approach for us is any different than it would be in any year," Loomis said
as we can find and we're fortunate enough this year to have multiple picks in the first four rounds
And we're excited about that because I think there's some depth in this draft that we'll be able to help our roster
if we're picking in the top 10 we're looking for somebody that
we're going to count on this guy for the next eight to 10 years
And he's going to fill that spot and we're not going to have to worry about it
but sometimes it might be a guy that's just
we can sleep at night because we've got that position covered for the next eight to 10 years."
A player's position will not prevent him from being drafted if the team already has an established player there
though that has been an infrequent occurrence
"We're always looking for the best player we can get wherever we're drafting," Loomis said
you've got two or three players that are all graded roughly the same
which of these positions fits us at that time
there's just a guy out there that's so far graded above everyone else that
'We've just got to take this guy.' That's happened to us
It happened to us when (running back) Deuce McAllister was drafted (in 2001); we had Ricky Williams
(McAllister's) grade was just so much greater than anyone else that was on the board
"That happened with (defensive end) Will Smith (in 2004)
they're all graded roughly the same – have the same opinion about them – and then you're just sorting out by position at that point."
Loomis said the number of early picks the Saints have provides the opportunity for early impact
because I think we'll get good players in all of those spots
The last time we had this many picks in the first four rounds I think was 2017
with four years later we're trying to keep these guys and we can't keep them all
that they're all good players and that it becomes difficult to keep them all."
He said that though he hasn't specifically quantified the numbers
it appears there are more defensive linemen in the draft worthy of being picked in the second and third rounds than previous years
New Orleans Saints players continue their offseason workouts at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center on Thursday
"But that doesn't mean we don't love Trevor and expect him to be part of our team going forward," Loomis said
BACK THAT THING UP: While Loomis has gained notoriety for moving up in the draft
"I know my record says something different
(but) I've never been against trading back," he said
it's hard for me to say I want to trade back and get a lesser player than I can get in moving forward
you're guaranteeing yourself – in my mind – a better player based upon our grades
as opposed to going back and I might end up with a lesser player
And I get that you're getting more swings when you trade back
you're picking up assets and you're getting more swings
I understand that philosophy; I don't disagree with it
"Sometimes you might feel like I can trade back and still get the guy that I was going to take
That's when it really makes a lot of sense
when you feel like you can move back some spots and still get the guy or one of the guys that you really wanted."

Restructuring Derek Carr's contract without giving him a physical first and setting $40 million on fire
His latest bad move should cost him his job
Loomis drafted quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round
But Shough spent seven years in college football with just one season of starting experience
He lost his job at Oregon to Anthony Brown
a QB who was not drafted and who is currently completing 48% of his passes for the UFL's Houston Roughnecks
And his 12 starts at Louisville weren't impressive -- he only threw 23 touchdown passes along the way
The Saints could have waited a round to get Shough but they were desperate for a quarterback so they reached on him
They were scared he wouldn't make it to their next pick at No
And this should be the last decision Loomis gets to make as Saints general manager
He's wasted too many draft picks on too many busts and made too many bad signings with Gayle Benson's money to get to continue
It's beyond obvious at this point that Drew Brees and Sean Payton were responsible for the success he found; without them
it's true that Kellen Moore should get to draft his own quarterback
And when taken with all of his other mistakes

Just so sad to lose a good friend and golfing buddy
Bill always encouraged me on the golf course
I would chuckle when I’d miss a putt as I’d hear “ohhhhh” slip out of his mouth
I’m really going to miss hearing that
He was a really friendly and helpful man
My deepest condolences to the family of Bill Loomis
I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad and husband
and was always quick with a subtle comment or observation
Bill was one of my coworkers in the Utility Section at the Montana Department of Transportation
He always had a good understanding of the status of hundreds of Utility projects across Montana and was relied on by the whole staff to keep projects on track
His technical expertise in Computer Design and Drafting and other computer software was remarkable
Many people throughout the Department came to Bill to get help with their computer problems
His office was right next to mine and it was always enjoyable talking to Bill
He clearly had a passion for his family and of course golf
golfed with and got my husband to ranger too

General Manager Mickey Loomis has been the Saints’ General Manager since 2002 and that gives a pretty good sense of how he prefers to operate on draft day
One major trend is that Loomis is not one for trading back in the first round
The Saints have not done it during his tenure
but that didn’t stop him from being asked at a Wednesday press conference if he would consider moving out of the ninth overall pick on Thursday night
Loomis said he knows “my record says something different,” but was adamant that he’s not opposed to the idea
“I’ve never been against trading back,” Loomis said
it’s hard for me to say I want to trade back and get a lesser player than I can get in moving forward
you’re guaranteeing yourself — in my mind — a better player based upon our grades
And I get that you’re getting more swings when you trade back
you’re picking up assets and you’re getting more swings
I understand that philosophy; I don’t disagree with it
A trade back might be particularly appealing this year because it would offer the chance to add a quarterback outside of the top 10 while also giving Loomis more picks to plug other holes on the roster
but any trade will require a partner and the Saints may not find someone willing to make the kind of jump Loomis has preferred to make over the last two decades

a global leader in cash-handling products and services
understands the power of automation to drive efficiency and innovation
headquartered in Sweden and serving 27 countries
embracing technology to optimize operations and maintain its competitive edge
Technology modernization and automation across its international network of more than 400 branches in 20 countries presents unique challenges
with each subsidiary operating independently
using diverse technology stacks and licensing agreements
explains: "Each Loomis subsidiary had its own data center with different technologies
We needed to streamline our IT operations and bring a consistent IT framework across our local subsidiary teams
Loomis set out to standardize its global IT platform
highly automated solution that allowed local subsidiaries to operate and utilize IT infrastructure in a way that suited their specific needs
while also adhering to Loomis’s global standards and practices.
Loomis decided to use VMware Cloud Foundation to transform its global data center infrastructure into a modern private cloud environment
Given that Loomis manages financial operations
there was no room for downtime during the transition—the migration process had to be seamless
“One of our main challenges was to ensure our local teams and the customers they support did not notice that we were making a change,” says Blanc
The team successfully migrated to VMware Cloud Foundation and
Loomis achieved the scale and agility advantages of public cloud with the security and performance of private cloud.
The high levels of automation brought by VMware Cloud Foundation aligned with the company’s commitment to efficiency
The solution empowered Blanc’s team to automate manual tasks through advanced workflows and agile templating
Despite the size and scale of the business
the global IT team at Loomis is relatively small so
it also needed to manage the private cloud on an ongoing basis
but we can handle this kind of private cloud with a low workload thanks to VMware Cloud Foundation.”
VMware Cloud Foundation also enabled the delivery of a cloud consumption experience with self-service automation for the subsidiaries
This new delivery model has empowered Loomis users to be more independent and productive while ensuring the security and compliance of their work.
“Having a self-service private cloud has completely changed the dynamics of our global IT set-up and has provided an ideal way for local teams to consume IT
applications and platform as a service,” says Blanc.
Loomis has seen significant growth of its Kubernetes environment
which Blanc asserts is accelerating innovations and improvements across the company: “We’ve had Kubernetes for two years now and it has become clear that more and more developers are consuming this particular environment
they are building and evolving the products and solutions that are driving the company forward.”
When reflecting on the recent cloud journey
Blanc can see many benefits to the Loomis business: “With VMware Cloud Foundation
we are faster to deploy and roll out new services and infrastructures
This has created an IT environment that continues to evolve at speed but also one that fosters innovation
We are more agile and can deliver services to our customers faster.”
The New Orleans Saints spent a top-50 pick on rookie quarterback Tyler Shough
but they aren't about to name him the starter
At least that's not how Mickey Loomis feels about it
The longtime Saints general manager spoke with the media after the 2025 NFL draft to recap his team's draft class
and while he expressed confidence in the rookie QB
he stopped short of putting Shough on top of the depth chart
Loomis has maintained the stance all offseason that
But he has an injury which could take him out for the season
When pressed for an update on Carr's status
Loomis repeated his previous line: "I don't have anything else about that right now."
Carr needs to be healthy and available to be the starter
If he's not in the building or on the active roster
Kellen Moore had all offseason to study Rattler's game tape
and choose whether to build around him or spend an early draft pick on a quarterback of his own choosing
Rattler deserves a shot but all expectations should have Shough ahead in that competition
we should expect it to be Shough leading the team out of the tunnel come September

but the Supreme Court found she was unable to defend herself because of incapacity — and suspended her practice
A Honolulu attorney who was part of a black market pipeline offering babies from the Marshall Islands for adoption has been barred from practicing law
The Hawaiʻi Supreme Court put Laurie Loomis on inactive status last month “due to incapacity.”
Loomis had been facing discipline up to disbarment for allegedly violating 20 professional conduct standards
But that case is now on hold indefinitely because of Loomis’ disability
The court cited a rule that requires it to sideline any attorney involved in a disciplinary case if the lawyer claims to be too disabled to mount a defense and the court verifies it through a medical exam or other means.
The disability could be the result of “mental or physical infirmity or illness
or because of the use of drugs or intoxicants.”
which filed a case against Loomis last year
Loomis did not respond to a request for comment.
The office gets from 300 to 600 complaints a year
but only files disciplinary petitions as it did in the Loomis case for four to 10 of them
If in the future the Supreme Court finds that Loomis is no longer incapacitated
the office could resume its disciplinary case against her
The action brings to a close — at least for now — a case that began more than five years ago after Civil Beat published a story describing Loomis’ illicit adoption business involving Marshall Islands birth mothers. The day the story was published, the disciplinary counsel’s office said it planned to investigate her based on Civil Beat’s findings
Read the Civil Beat investigation: Black Market Babies
Civil Beat identified several cases in which Loomis defied Marshall Islands law and the Compact of Free Association treaty to fly pregnant Marshallese birth mothers to Honolulu to give birth and sign over their infants to adoptive parents
the Marshall Islands require that all adoptions go through a central agency
had made an exception to COFA — which allows Marshall Islands citizens to travel to the U.S
without a visa — to prevent pregnant women from entering the country if they intended to give up a child in an adoption
One birth mother said she was seven to eight months pregnant when she flew from the Marshall Islands to Honolulu and was met at the airport by Loomis’ handler
She was put up in various Waikīkī hotel rooms she shared with four other pregnant Marshallese women
All five women gave birth at Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children
The woman said she didn’t realize until the papers were being signed at a hotel that the adoption would be closed
meaning she would have no right to see or get information about her child in the future
but felt that she couldn’t back out because of the money and other things she’d received
In another case, Loomis wrote to a prospective adoptive parent that “I have a new expectant mom who just moved here from the Marshall Islands.”
Loomis was no longer housing the women in Waikīkī
Her handler had instead rented an apartment in ʻAiea
where the property owner told Civil Beat that 10 to 15 people sometimes crowded into the two-bedroom unit
The disciplinary counsel’s case against Loomis did not focus directly on the illicit adoptions
it alleged that she violated ethics codes by failing to disclose to the state bar the existence of a bank account for holding adoption client fees and making payments to birth mothers and others
The disciplinary counsel also cited a case involving a Hawaiʻi couple that hired Loomis to represent them in adopting a child from Arizona
The couple said Loomis was unresponsive and did little work on their case
but refused to return any of the $4,588 they had paid
Loomis countered that she had diligently represented them
Although the disciplinary counsel’s office did not focus on the flights from the Marshall Islands
its petition exposed some of the inner workings of Loomis’ adoption business
It cited a payment she made for “passport & exit fee” and listed two plane tickets whose route is identified as “MH-HI.” MH is the international code for the Marshall Islands
The disciplinary petition revealed that Loomis had paid $242,950 total to 31 birth mothers over the 31 months ending in July 2018
It’s unclear how many of those women flew in from the Marshall Islands for the adoptions versus coming from elsewhere in the U.S.
During this same period of about two-and-a-half years
Loomis paid herself $944,125 in retainers and cost reimbursement
Her fee for one adoption was listed as $23,000
The disciplinary petition also revealed the consequences of Hawaiʻi’s lack of a law restricting payments to birth mothers
Hawaiʻi is one of the few states that does not restrict paying birth mothers to only expenses to avoid what amounts to baby-selling.
was paying birth mothers a flat fee – usually $8,500 – in addition to covering their living expenses
Civil Beat’s series Black Market Babies revealed that several other lawyers specialized in illegal Marshallese adoptions
also flew in pregnant women from the Marshall Islands
He defrauded Arizona of about $800,000 by signing them up for Medicaid.
documents showed she had twice enrolled a Marshallese birth mother in Medicaid who traveled from Arkansas for adoptions
even though the program is meant only for those who intend to live here
It was impossible to determine if this was standard practice since Medicaid documents are usually private
was sentenced in 2020 to six years and two months in federal prison
An Arizona judge sentenced him to more than 10 years
with all but five to run concurrently with the federal term.
Taken together Petersen’s term adds up to 11 to 15 years
not including time off for good behavior and other possible adjustments

Corey Loomis poses for a photo at the Tree That Owns Itself on Monday
Loomis started walking everyday after having a health scare
Loomis is known for walking circles around Athens
and is usually seen power walking to music in a pair of denim cut-offs and a crop top
Loomis didn’t start walking regularly until a health scare necessitated it
and he was told he might need a transplant
“I started wearing crop tops and walking on Milledge to try and get as much direct sunlight on my liver itself as possible,” Loomis explained
Loomis found that walking not only improved his physical health
but provided him with a great way to commute to work along South Milledge Avenue
“I try to do things that I would be doing at home if I were just sitting there
It’s almost like walking around having a music video playing,” Loomis said
While Milledge is one of Loomis’s most popular routes
the historic Boulevard neighborhood is also one of his favorites
he enjoys the landscapes and people that all of Athens has to offer
“It’s just different from pretty much anywhere else that I’ve been
I’ve seen a lot of people leave and end up coming back
you can sort of stay feeling young for a long time,” Loomis said
Becoming recognizable around town has had its pros and cons
but Loomis appreciates that his frequent walks (and iconic uniform) have motivated strangers to be active
“I have people tell me they ran half marathons and stuff
just from watching me walk,” Loomis recalled
“That’s worth any of the negative energy that I get from people.”

INDIANAPOLIS -- New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has said he doesn't believe in the idea of a total rebuild
The Saints have maintained that strategy for more than a decade, creating salary cap space each offseason by restructuring contracts and pushing back money into future years
They've operated in this fashion since 2013 after quarterback Drew Brees signed a five-year
"Every team is either in that cap management mode or they're going to be," Loomis said
"That's just the nature of our sport and the way the cap works."
Loomis said to expect that same philosophy when the free agency period opens on Wednesday
Although it will be the first time they'll go through free agency under new coach Kellen Moore
they won't be majorly changing the process they had under former head coach Sean Payton and his successor Dennis Allen
"That's going to be our approach every year
We're going to try to win every game we can win," Loomis said
"I think we'll be able to add a few pieces
It just depends upon the who and the where and the cost right
I expect us to be active," Loomis said during the NFL scouting combine in February
Loomis said "being active" doesn't necessarily correlate to expensive spending. He used the Philadelphia Eagles signing former Saints linebacker Zack Baun to a minimum deal last offseason as an example
Baun earned All-Pro honors with Philadelphia in the 2024 season and was a key member of the starting lineup before being re-signed to a new deal this offseason
"You sign these guys at lower level salaries and you never know how that's going to impact your team
Look at Zack Baun and how that turned out for Philadelphia
Sore subject with me," Loomis said jokingly
Way back when we signed [linebacker] Demario [Davis]
and that's been one of the best signings we've ever had."
The Saints signed Carr in 2023 despite entering the offseason more than $55 million over the salary cap and signed pass rusher Chase Young last offseason after entering the spring needing to clear at least $40 million in space
Most of the other signings last year were short-term deals for role players
Left tackle Terron Armstead signed with the Miami Dolphins for $30 million fully guaranteed in 2022 after the Saints entered the offseason about $60 million over the salary cap
Armstead missed 13 games in three seasons there but made two Pro Bowls
Even if the Saints had embraced the idea of a total rebuild
it would have been difficult this year due to the structure of several veteran contracts
The biggest of those contracts belongs to Carr
who the Saints publicly said would be their quarterback in 2025
That would have left minimal money to work with in free agency because they would have to keep his base salary on the books until June
The Saints could have signed a cheaper veteran quarterback, drafted one with the No. 9 pick in this year's draft or turned to second-year player Spencer Rattler if they moved on from Carr
New Orleans agreed to restructure Carr's contract on Saturday
freeing up $30 million and backing up its intent to try to compete this year
Moore said recently that he feels like they have the pieces in place to do that
"You can't ever walk into a team meeting or locker room and say we're not competing," Moore said
Loomis said the decision on whether to compete this year or start over was never a discussion during the interview process
Their talks revolved around general philosophy and what Moore would be like as a coach
I'm in the mode of trying to win every game
and I know Kellen and really every candidate's that way
that's what you are as a competitors," Loomis said
I wasn't expecting anyone to have evaluated in depth the roster
and particularly for Kellen because he was in the middle of preparing to win a Super Bowl."
The Saints will likely continue to chip away at the salary cap with more restructures in order to sign free agents, future draft picks and eventually establish a salary cap. In addition to the restructures of Carr and McCoy, they also released veteran running back Jamaal Williams last week
Those restructures will also push money into the 2026 salary cap
will now hold a $69.2 million salary cap hit next year and have a base salary of $50 million
Depending on how many restructures the Saints do
they could be in a similar position one year from now
once again raising the question -- rebuild or stay the course in order to compete
"From afar obviously you see that they've handled it for a number of years now," Moore said
Certainly you recognize the competitiveness this organisation's always had and the creativity they've had
They've always had a competitive roster and I felt very comfortable with the couple of conversations we've had."

the Edith Renfrow Smith `37 Gallery returned to nature
Bird calls echoed through a space overgrown with moss and leaves
Cinder blocks on the ground suggested vestiges of a humanity that once was
This is “Bird Worlds,” a Smith Gallery exhibition by Henry Loomis `26
the name “Bird Worlds” came from “thinking of spaces where humans don’t have as much control as they think that they do
or wherever they’ve let go of some control.” This underlying thesis statement dictated the direction of the exhibition
A short manifesto written by Loomis for an earlier version of a poster advertising the show states
“Perhaps we must accept — as those zen (sic) screen-painters did (do?) — that we live not in controllable forms but in BIRD WORLDS.”
The earliest piece in the exhibition is “Visions of Jonah,” a digital artwork created in 2022 and inspired by Moby Dick
a print of which hangs on the wall alongside other prints of Loomis’ digital works
“It was sort of interesting seeing the through lines in my work
and how I could sort of draw things together
even though it was over a long period of time,” said Loomis
“Most of it wasn’t really made with this sort of setting in mind.”
some of Loomis’ works feature influences from Japanese culture
“I am inspired by some of their aesthetic principles
one of the central parts of the exhibition is “Shikinen Sengū,” a video installation created for the exhibition and inspired by his time abroad in Japan in the fall 2024 semester
“That one was the only one I made knowing specifically that I was going to have this show,” said Loomis
Another prominent part of the exhibition are leaves from a sacred camphor tree at the Atsuta Jingū
representing the other main theme of the show — sacred spaces and “how nature and our ideas of sacred spaces play off of each other,” according to Loomis
“Bank Quilt,” a quilt with panels of paintings on the fabric
The quilt depicts “these spaces which have the influence of nature upon them in really powerful ways
some of which are decaying from the inside out,” said Loomis

The drive remains for New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis to construct winning football teams
as does the belief that he and the committee involved in the Saints' coaching search can find the right person to lead the franchise on the field
"We've gotten it right before," Loomis said Monday
in his news conference that addressed myriad topics following the Saints' fourth consecutive season without a playoff berth
Dennis Allen was relieved of head coaching duties following a loss that dropped the Saints to 2-7 on Nov
3; Darren Rizzi was named interim head coach to finish out the season Nov
Loomis said the Saints still are relatively early in the coaching search
given that some candidates are with playoff teams and NFL rules stipulate when those candidates can be interviewed
And he said New Orleans remains a premier destination for a head coach
"We've got the best professional sports league in the world
"We have a lot of things to offer – a great city
we have had great stability in our building for a long
who was general manager from 2002-12 before adding the title of executive vice president in 2013
is the most successful general manager in franchise history
having been at the helm for 208 regular-season victories and a 9-8 playoff record
vice president/assistant general manager/director of college scouting Jeff Ireland
assistant general manager/vice president of football operations Khai Harley
senior personnel advisor Randy Mueller and personnel advisor Dave Ziegler form the Saints' coaching search panel
"I think one of the things that's really important is to be able to have a collective vision and be on the same page organizationally – ownership
"We have to have the same collective vision
"All of these candidates are going to have strengths and weaknesses
and we've got our strengths and weaknesses and blind spots and so
we just have to go through that and figure out – and we will – who the best fit is for us."
Loomis said he saw positives for the Saints
I'm glass-half-full at all times," he said
"I see a lot of things – even in a 5-12 season – I see a lot of things that were positive
this thing can go the other direction pretty quickly
I understand that the results are the results
But you also have to look beyond the results sometimes and understand the reasons behind the symptoms
"We have to do the best job we can with the things that are in our control
and we have to understand the things that aren't
but this injury thing was a big deal this year
prevented us from being competitive in games
The new coach will choose his own staff; the Saints have confirmed interviews with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver
Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka
who interviewed for the head coaching job in 2022 when Allen was named
said he expected to be interviewed this week
Loomis said the team also must complete its internal player evaluations
"What jumps out is the amount of injuries; we've got to do a deep dive into that
Are there things that we missed in the evaluation process
"I think that you can rebuild – it means different things to different people
I think you can turn around a season pretty quickly in the NFL
And there's a lot of good things on our roster and there's some things that we need to adjust and fill in
With four picks in the top 100 Loomis is excited about opportunity to 'get good players in all of those spots'

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis addressed a host of topics during a 40-plus minute news conference Monday
to cap the 2024 season and answer general questions about the team's coaching search
CONFIDENCE IN CARR: Loomis said he likes all three Saints quarterbacks on the roster, and said he has a "high level" of confidence in starter Derek Carr – who missed seven games due to various injuries
The Saints were 5-5 when Carr started and 0-7 when either Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener started
and has done some really good things here," Loomis said
his quarterback rating would be in the top 10
his interception rating would be in the top 10
his yards per attempt would be in the top 10 under some really tough circumstances
"When you don't have your top two receivers
and you don't have that special weapon in Taysom Hill
and we don't have the middle portion of our offensive line
and we have a rookie left tackle – there are some tough circumstances for a quarterback to have to deal with
So I think he's done some really good things."
CAP TALK: "I'm pretty comfortable with where we're at (salary cap wise)," Loomis said
and there's a lot of teams that have to manage their cap that way
And some of the ones that don't are going to have to at some point
I think we're making progress from where we've been the last few years
STAYING PUT: The 68-year-old Loomis said he has no intention or interest in retirement at present
I've got a passion for all of it," he said
"I feel like I've got all my faculties here
Nobody would ask me that question…if I wasn't 68 they wouldn't ask me the question
"If I ever felt like my acumen or my ability to think and ability to do the things necessary in this job were waning
Getting back to the playoffs and winning football
NOLA LOVE: He also expressed his appreciation of New Orleans and the passion that the Saints evoke
but I like to tell people I'm from here now
"I know how much the success of our team impacts our city
So I take it personal when we're not successful
Being in New Orleans it kind of gets into your blood
CAMP TALK: No decision has been made as to where training camp will be held in 2025
though Loomis said he believes it will occur at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie
"I'd say it's likely that we're going to have training camp here
but a decision hasn't been made yet," he said
– Residents in the Loomis school district could be voting on a new school bond as early as September
The Loomis school board and administration have spent the past year or two planning and putting together a potential expansion and upgrade to the current building
Conversations among faculty revealed an emerging issue that the majority of Loomis teachers and staff had mentioned: the need for more space
Following the results of a questionnaire that was given to those same faculty members
administrators at Loomis contacted local architecture and designing firm Wilkins ADP
A handful of design plans were created with two of those options being presented to the public
They address a number of facility needs and improvements with one option going even further in the hopes of keeping Loomis Public Schools ahead of any future changes
Loomis Superintendent Nate Weaver says two options are being presented to the public
and a larger weight room and wrestling room
This is estimated to cost around $9.4 million
and a few other additions and improvements
The estimated cost sits at a maximum of $25 million
Weaver calls Option C.3 the “Cadillac Option”
He notes that the price tag is the maximum amount and knows that decisions will most likely lead to a smaller final cost
Loomis enrollment sits at 268 kids from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade
with that number expected to continue rising
Weaver says the increase in students has led to the need to split classes due to cramped rooms
Other issues include overcrowding of the weight room
the lack of air conditioning in an older portion of the building
Locker rooms are becoming more crowded as well
and the lack of extra classrooms has prevented the district from expanding on their curriculum
Weaver also mentions the reasons for this expansion and renovation go beyond the basic need of extra space with many areas of concern being raised by school faculty
A number of categories were identified including adding support spaces like rooms for para-educators
A nursing station was also mentioned as sick students currently have no specific place to wait for their parents
While the high school addition is still in excellent shape
the addition was never expected to completely fill up
and it shows that school continues to attract more and more students
Another area of concern for Weaver has been the location of current athletic facilities within the school building
He says the school runs into an issue when hosting events during the school day
The small gym forces students in school and spectators coming in to “mingle”
This brings the obvious potential for distractions and disruptions in the school day
a gym would be constructed in an area that is more separated from the academic areas
and a larger concourse have all been planned
This would give the chance to place new classrooms in the same area as the small gym
The current gym would continue to be used for some events such as graduation and concerts
There are still many details that Weaver says they’re waiting for public responses before finalizing
The school board is planning to have at least two more public meetings to show the public their ideas
and to hear feedback from those in attendance
a school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday
The architect and building manager will also be there to continue the discussions
groundbreaking is expected to begin in the Spring of 2026
There are plans in place to minimize as many school disruptions as possible during the estimated 18-month construction period
They’ll also make sure there is continuous access to the gym
Superintendent Weaver says his main goal from all of this is to see the school succeed and the kids taken care of
He says every detail they’ve included is with the students’ interests in mind

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis said Tuesday evening that the search for the next Saints head coach will not immediately commence
There are eight games remaining in the 2024 season
and the franchise will concentrate on that task before moving on to the next
The Saints are 2-7 and have lost seven consecutive games for the first time since 1999 entering Sunday's game against Atlanta (6-3) in the Caesars Superdome
"That's not something that we're going to be real active with right now," Loomis said on The Saints Hour radio show
"There's plenty of time for that when the season ends
Our focus has got to be on our team – our players
"You learn more about who you have and who the people are that you're working with in adversity than you do when things are going well
As much as Katrina and that whole experience was difficult back in '05
we learned a lot about the people that were with the Saints at that time
I can't describe to you – as bad as our fans feel and the things that they feel
"We have to get up off the mat and show some fight
And that's true for every single person in this building
we're going to see what we've got over the next few weeks."
Loomis said circumstances helped create this season's reality, and the reality led to the decision Monday to relieve Dennis Allen of his head coaching duties
with the most recent loss being Sunday's 23-22 defeat to Carolina
in which the Panthers broke their five-game losing streak
is a fantastic football coach and I think anybody in our league who would talk about him thinks he's a fantastic football coach," Loomis said
I think in this case the circumstances created the record
That's just the truth and a lot of people don't want to hear it
We get silly things written like the players aren't parking in the right spots
Players have been parking out there for the last 15 years
"We've got construction going on (at the Saints facility)
we've got 100 more employees than we did 10 years ago
And to equate that with discipline is silly
Going into this last game we were the eighth-fewest penalties in the league; that's more of a comment on discipline than where a player parks
"But it just gets back to what stares at you right in the face
is that we've had an abnormal amount of injuries including to our quarterback (Derek Carr)
that puts pressure and stress on the organization and ultimately
The Saints will enter Sunday's game against Atlanta (6-3) in the Caesars Superdome minus center Erik McCoy (injured)
receiver Chris Olave (concussion protocol)
Allen's dismissal led to Darren Rizzi being appointed interim coach
Rizzi was assistant head coach/special team coordinator since 2022
and Rizzi spoke to the team before addressing the media Monday afternoon
We talked about what his message would be beforehand and I thought it was well-received," Loomis said
any time you have a change in the middle of a season you're going to have some emotion involved with that
and hopefully that emotion creates a little positive bump
"I thought Rizzi did a great job talking to the team
describing some things that we wanted to do differently just to hopefully jump-start the back half of the season."
Loomis said Rizzi's role as assistant head coach made him the obvious choice to become interim head coach
"So he's been involved in a number of those decisions that the head coach makes
his role as the special teams coach – you do deal with almost every player on the team when you're in that role – so it's a voice that our players have heard before
"He's used to being up in front of a large group of players and presenting
He's got a great personality and a positive attitude at all times
he was a candidate when we hired Dennis Allen
He was one of the candidates and had a really strong performance in his interviews
Loomis said Rizzi has an effervescent personality and fighter mentality
"You feel that when you're just talking in a regular conversation with him," Loomis said
"I think that was positively received by our team
certainly by our players and our staff in a really

Texas (KVII) — Superintendent Doug Loomis is retiring from Amarillo ISD at end of 2024-25 school year after nearly 40 years with the district
According to the agenda for Monday's AISDBoard of Trustees meeting
Loomis submitted a "letter of retirement/resignation" to be effective June 30
The school board is expected to accept the retirement/resignation at the end of the meeting
The school district has not made the retirement public
has requested a copy of Loomis' letter
According to AISD
Loomisbegan his career with the district as a PE teacher at Wolflin Elementary School
He was named Superintendent in March 2019
Loomis will have to guide the district though some tough decisions before he leaves, including possible school closures and a bond election to deal with declining enrollment
ROWE — A former Mohawk Trail Regional School ski coach and Rowe park manager is being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a student from 2016 to 2019
A civil complaint filed in Franklin County Superior Court alleges that Sean Loomis
while serving as park manager for the Rowe Park Commission and head coach for Mohawk Trail Regional School’s boys ski team
used his authority to coerce the plaintiff into a sexual relationship when she was a minor and repeatedly assaulted her between 2016 and 2019
The plaintiff is suing under five counts: sexual abuse of a minor
negligent infliction of emotional distress and false imprisonment
was a student at Mohawk Trail Regional School
a member of the girls ski team and worked at Pelham Lake Park in Rowe
the Greenfield Recorder does not identify victims or alleged victims of sexual assault
told the Recorder that Loomis denies the allegations
Loomis resigned from his position as park manager last June after 22 years in the role
his contract to be the ski coach for Mohawk Trail was not renewed for the 2024-2025 school year
The civil complaint alleges Loomis began pursuing the plaintiff in 2014
He allegedly sent her numerous unwanted sexually explicit text messages
made inappropriate comments and invaded her social life
activity that later evolved into unwanted touching and eventually coerced sexual acts
utilized his position of authority over the plaintiff as her ski trainer and manager to sexually assault
sexually abuse and rape her on numerous occasions,” the complaint alleges
It goes on to say that Loomis requested that the plaintiff meet him at an office at Pelham Lake Park under the guise of team-related activities
Loomis denies not only the assaults but also the claim that he invited her to the park office
The count of false imprisonment arises from the plaintiff’s allegation that
Loomis restrained the plaintiff and held her against her will
The complaint does not state a specific amount being sought in damages
that will be determined later and ultimately will be up to a jury
… It’s not about the medical bills,” Merrigan said
State Police investigated the case last spring after the young woman came forward and told her family what had happened
the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office decided that the evidence was insufficient to support a criminal prosecution
“They determined they didn’t have enough probable cause to investigate and file charges,” he said
“This has been an ongoing dilemma because the burden of proof is on the district attorney and there has to be beyond probable cause
Merrigan said that because his client was 16 years old when Loomis is alleged to have first sexually assaulted her
she was of the age of consent in Massachusetts
the DA’s office would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the relationship was not consensual
The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Laurie Loisel declined to confirm or deny any investigation into Loomis or answer questions about the case
director of Jeffrey Glassman Injury Lawyers in Boston
district attorneys must first prove probable cause
they must then prove a crime occurred beyond a reasonable doubt
“Probable cause is the lowest threshold of proof needed: Is it more likely than not a crime was committed?” D’Isola said
“If they don’t feel they have that level of proof
they’re not going to go forward because then in court they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.”
the point in time the alleged abuse occurred and when the alleged abuse was reported can all play a role in whether a district attorney pursues a case
Sometimes a district attorney has enough evidence to prove probable cause
but does not believe there is enough to win in court
This does not necessarily mean abuse or assault did not occur
but over time witness memory fades and physical evidence may be lost
which can result in not enough evidence being available to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime occurred
D’Isola explained civil complaints are different than criminal ones because in a civil case the plaintiff only has to prove it was more likely than not that a crime occurred
While criminal complaints are about determining guilt and imposing criminal penalties
A 2022 study from University of Massachusetts Lowell professors in psychology and criminology found that less than one in five reported cases of child sexual abuse leads to prosecution
A similar study by the same team in 2019 found that of 100 sexual assaults of teenage girls and young women
minor victims can sue their abusers civilly within 35 years of when the acts occurred or within seven years of when the plaintiff discovered
“that an emotional or psychological injury or condition was caused by said act.”
