rang in a powerful celebration of Cambodian heritage at the Lynn Commons on Saturday afternoon to remind the community of its roots
is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the Cambodian community in Lynn
It strives to uplift the heritage for generations through cultural engagement
According to Chair of the Board Sophorphaiktra Chhour
the event drew in a huge crowd of people who arrived at the Lynn Commons after the event kicked off Saturday morning to celebrate their heritage.
Chhour explained that when the event first began over 20 years ago
but after seeing the reception grow from community members
the organization decided it needed somewhere bigger to house the event
and we saw so many people come and participate
so we asked to have the event in the Lynn Commons,” Chhour said
She explained that the event had become a regular staple of celebrating Cambodian heritage until COVID-19 put a halt to everything
Chhour said the organization looked to getting the event up and running once more after a three-year hiatus
Chhour reiterated that it’s about educating future generations
and we watch to educate for generations to come
to understand and to learn where their parents and grandparents came from… We also want to do this to bring all our Cambodian culture to showcase all the people,” Chhour explained
Chhour said that while she and others who helped organize the event are “exhausted,” it was well worth the effort
She added that she saw what looked like thousands of people who came to attend the event
where she said people traveled from across the state to participate
We were trying so hard to make sure everything went okay
and we’re exhausted but we’re still very happy… There were a lot of people

First Draft: A Dialogue of Writing is a weekly show featuring in-depth interviews with fiction
highlighting the voices of writers as they discuss their work
First Draft celebrates creative writing and the individuals who are dedicated to bringing their carefully chosen words to print as well as the impact writers have on the world we live in
In this episode, Mitzi talks to Lynn Steger Strong about her new novel, The Float Test
Subscribe and download the episode
Mitzi Rapkin: Something present in this book
is the interaction between fact and fiction
and how what we write in fiction might be pieces of our real lives and how do we fictionalize some of that
what are we doing in the world that influences us
what interaction did you have at CVS this morning that will stick with you in ways that you’re conscious and unconscious of that come out in your next book
about being a writer and being in the world and that interaction
Lynn Steger Strong: I think it’s kind of excruciating to be alive
I think it’s part of our job as writers to be pretty porous to the world
I am really grateful to have friends and community and children
It’s like the Flannery O’Connor idea that fiction is made in the dust
and if you’re not willing to get dusty
then you’re not willing to write great fiction
I find it very hard and scary a lot of the time to move through the actual world and also it feels completely essential to me to touch and feel the realities of the world consistently so that when I go back to my fiction
I sort of posit this binary to students in class
like there’s the idea of the thing and the thing itself
I think some writers are really interested in the idea of the thing
but I’m very interested in the thing itself
I want you to feel in my fiction that you can sort of touch and taste the world as the character is moving through it
And I do think it all kind of sticks with you
like a woman at drop-off who touches her hair in a certain way
And then I and then I think probably I’m wrong
probably that 20 minutes I spent worrying about this woman who doesn’t need me to be worried about her
like her gesture is going to stick with me
and then her gesture is going to be in my book
One of our main jobs as writers every day when we’re in the world is to pay very close and careful attention
And then I do think it kind of appears in that moment where a character is forming and she’s feeling a thing
Lynn Steger Strong is the author of the novels Hold Still
Her non-fiction has appeared in The New York Times
She has taught writing at The Pratt Institute
and Columbia University and will be the Visiting Fiction Writer at Bates College for the 2022-2023 school year

Veteran country music singer-songwriter Rebecca Lynn Howard is seated on a swing in an enclosed "hippy den" that doubles as the back porch of her East Nashville home
swaddled amongst the half-dozen colorful throw blankets surrounding her
The area is as ripe with sunlight as it is with inspiration
ask why the grooves and vocals on the Kentucky native's album "I’m Not Who You Think I Am," released May 2 from Lee Brice's Pump House Records
sound so invitingly warm and the ambience of the room only tells half of the story
"(Album track 'Holler') opens with my grandmother’s voice singing an old-time gospel tune — a beautiful way to honor her legacy
even though she’s been gone for 20 years," Howard said
"I love that her talent is finally getting a moment in the spotlight
This song tells the story of growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky
filled with cherished memories that shaped me into the resilient woman I am today
and sharing this piece of my heart with the world brings me so much joy."
unique musical journeyThe songs that comprise "I’m Not Who You Think I Am" are 20 years old because between 2004 and 2023
Howard's career deviated from being a Grammy and International Bluegrass Music Association award-winning and Academy of Country Music award-nominated multi-genre performer favored by the Grand Ole Opry to encapsulating something greater
Howard is a rare performer gifted at all facets of the stage including with the bass
As much as she's the singer of the critically beloved top-20 country hit "Forgive" in 2002
she's also a collaborator and background vocalist favored by Country Music Hall of Famers including Ronnie Dunn
Dig a decade back into her work and find her touring as a bass guitarist for Aerosmith's Steven Tyler when he crafted a country solo release
as performers including Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood have cut her material over the past quarter century
Howard's new album celebrates being a seasoned and doggedly determined creative now willing
with a spirit tempered by empathy and time
to embrace being more willing than ever to give the bounty of her creative gifts to herself first
she wrote "I Am My Mother" as a song inspired by a text thread with a few of her regular co-writers
we love to deep clean — I'm like my mother," she recalled texting
Howard's mother visited and washed dishes in the sink at her home
country music being based on three chords and the truth sounded genuinely accurate
These songs are soulfully sung because their wisdom isn't so much driven by homepun truths as it is rooted in a particular kind of life and love that burns brighter each year like the candles on a home-baked birthday cake
"She walked through valleys with us on her shoulders / She said you'll understand someday when you're older / She poured all of her strength / in my heart and my hands so now when I think I can't I know I can," sings the performer who for years struggled with chronic anxiety disorder
Similar to “I Am My Mother,” songs like “Heart Still Does,” “Holler,” “Good Place To Turn Around,” and “Strong” reflect the power of countrified
and simple Appalachian wisdom to serve as tentposts as a life survived that “move people’s hearts.”
is another key facet of "I’m Not Who You Think I Am" that is welcomed
but not reflective of new territory for Howard's well-regarded and multifaceted career
She's been praised throughout her career for being able to hit the same type of mournful "high lonesome" falsetto that defined Bill Monroe's foundation-establishing career
"My spiritual connection to God and Southern music — Mother Maybelle Carter
banjo picking and soulful gospel (sounds) — allows me to create from an authentically raw and honest place constantly," she said
"'I’m Not Who You Think I Am' realizes that because we share or are inspired by each other's perspectives."
“A Good Place To Turn Around” highlights Howard's feelings that she’s burned every bridge she would need to turn back as she emptied her tank while heading down her existence as a metaphorical lonesome highway
Seeking solace in religion to discover peace of mind
it’s a phenomenal song-as-story-of-redemption that demands attention
The silver lining at the end of the story — and a sense of where Howard’s skills in the next chapter of her career exist best as a live performer who brings down the house — appears via “Hoedown.” Loretta Lynn
has her legacy’s imprint all over the raucous party anthem
“If she don’t quit shaking that thing talking all that trash / the back of her head is going to hit the grass / Yeah there’s a hoedown down at the barn somebody sound the hoe alarm / hoedown she tried to do it / and my fist I introduced her to it,” sings Howard on the song that revives and reimagines Lynn’s classic “Fist City.”
renowned artist and producer Elisha Hoffman and one of the award-winning best singer-songwriters of the early 2010s — South Carolina-born
two-time Academy of Country Music Song of the Year award-winner Lee Brice — with their guiding hand aiding her in developing her project
She said she is humbled to have two peerless lifelong creatives as valued aides
"Lee's a dynamic presence whose humanity and work I admire," said Howard
He's still an incredibly gifted and humble good ol' boy."
happily underscored his wife of two decades' points about her album's creative process
The longtime Nashville resident is a tireless behind-the-boards songsmith whose music industry history supersedes genres and multimedia formats and encapsulates everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle to The Chicks and Shania Twain
understanding the delicate balance between being business savvy and embracing the creative mindset
who noted that her hometown of Salyersville
is 13 miles from Loretta Lynn's home of Butcher Hollow
She also shares the icon's legendary love of blunt honesty
"Country women like us just say it like it is what it is — thankfully
visceral music'"As much as I get pitched what people consider to be hit songs
I just want to believably deliver music to an audience that feels real and relatable," said Howard when asked to describe the most significant victory of an album that showcases how steadfast she's remained in her art's authenticity for two decades
"These songs are more emotional in general sometimes than they are happy or sad," said Howard about "I’m Not Who You Think I Am."
"I'm grateful to have come through what I've gone through with my faith
I recorded these songs because they are (more defined by) an authentic spirit than a catchy lyric."
She noted that because spirits are tremendous vessels for heart and hurt
using her songs to uplift someone from life's most painful pits in their hearts and hurt in their souls is ideal
visceral music that (uniquely) moves a frequency inside and outside people's bodies that provides hope
"It's all about getting through life by being molded and shaped by the wild ride of accepting who you are more than figuring it out."
The Magazine of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Field
Immortal, Sue Lynn Tan (Harper Voyager 978-0-06344-577-2, $32.00, 464pp, hc) January 2025
Immortal unfolds in the same universe as Sue Lynn Tan’s other Celestial Kingdom novels
tasked with ruling the mortal kingdom of Tianxia
caught up in the nefarious power politics between a race of immortals and other magical beings
which blends a ‘‘Beauty and Beast’’ retelling with some political intrigue
the first half of Immortal is also concerned with a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance between Lady Tianxia and Zhangwei
while the latter half follows through with several revelations and plot developments
The overall result: A standalone romantasy where the fantasy elements seemed to me to be an accessory to a sweeping romance between two souls fated to be together
The story opens with vivid scenes of destruction and devastation; Liyen grieves the death of her grandfather
the erstwhile ruler who’d secretly stolen the ‘‘Divine Pearl Lotus’’ (demanded by the immortal Queen Caihong of the Golden Desert) to save his only heir
although Liyen is cured of her mysterious ailments and becomes physically stronger
her heart still aches even as she struggles to hold dominion over an unstable kingdom
Despite the protection afforded by the immortals
Tianxia is routinely beset by the Winged Devils
her power-hungry courtiers are determined to marry her off to a suitor of their choosing
while ceaselessly plotting to undermine each other
Liyen makes a vow to free her kingdom from their obligations to the selfish and self-serving immortals
and embarks on a journey to the Immortal Realm
only to find herself dangerously attracted to the God of War
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the book is the relationship between Lady Tianxia and Zhangwei
though I found their characters to be somewhat thinly sketched
From divinely ordained soulmates to occasional bouts of amnesia as well as periods of forced proximity
the central romance seems to follow common tropes of the genre
Though Liyen’s love interest may have little to do in the narrative
his brooding personality gloriously heightens the romantic tension
she focuses on slowly building the bonds of trust and companionship
only to throw in a new twist every now and then to dismantle and forge the partnership anew
this romance section could’ve been its own short book
Liyen has the rather unsurprising realization that the world isn’t neatly divided into good and bad sides
and that those she’s conditioned to think of as enemies to be vanquished (like the Wuxin) may have justified reasons for acting the way they do
Family secrets and the truth of Lady Tianxia’s heritage are finally revealed
even as loyalties are tested and new alliances forged
aiding Liyen in her journey of self-development
empowering her to live on her own terms and rule justly
With the romantic storyline somewhat settled early on
the political intrigue is mildly interesting
Immortal won me over with the delicious romance between Liyen and Zhangwei
while the political machinations were a little less compelling for me
The rules of magic and worldbuilding are also softer
with some evocative descriptions here and there
along with the welcome appearance of a few mythical creatures
While this didn’t quite strike me as a high fantasy world to get lost in
the constant twists and turns in narrative make up for the sparse settings
Immortal is also lightly concerned with questions of power – especially if it can be justly deployed and make amends for historical wrongs – allowing for the main character to gradually come to her own conclusions and embrace her destiny
it’s a book that focusses on romantic drama and will surely appeal to lovers of romantasy

2025 1 p.m.The cover of Jaysea Lynn's romance-fantasy novel "For Whom the Belle Tolls." Lynn
wrote the book as a prequel to her TikTok video series
In Jaysea Lynn’s “For Whom the Belle Tolls” the afterlife might not be what you expect
leaves her life in the Pacific Northwest behind when she dies from cancer
But she finds an unexpected family and a fiery romance as she runs the “Hellp Desk,” where souls sent to Hell for rehabilitation bring their customer complaints
Lynn shared some details about the first book in the trilogy, inspired by a series she started on TikTok, ahead of an event planned for May 8 at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton
This conversation has been edited for clarity and length
Jess Hazel: So this is a pretty new way to develop a story and characters
You’re probably one of a handful of folks who have started a fictional world online and turned it into a book
can you explain what it was like to turn hundreds of TikTok videos into hundreds of pages of romance and fantasy
I came up with an idea when I was working as a cashier at Joanne’s
Why not?” And now we’re 600+ episodes and like four years later
how can I be intentional?” Because all of this stuff on TikTok just was like throwing paint to the wall and seeing what stuck
now I’ve got to retroactively do world-building,” whereas with the book
And it was really nice because the show on TikTok is a one-man band situation
I was going to ask about that one-man show aspect of it
The book switches perspectives between Lily and the main romantic interest
Did performing dialogue for the different characters in your videos help you develop those different voices
They’re slightly different characters in the book than they are in the show
But there were definitely things where I was like
Lily’s gonna be very sarcastic and mouthy.” She has a certain pattern of speaking that
he’s gonna have different lingo and different slang that he uses.” But his mental
That’s a lot of people already invested in this world you’ve built
So how does having that audience impact your creative process
what would a stadium of 1.8 million people look like?” I’m from Astoria
because I do know that I have a really big platform
But I can’t go too deep into it because I am who I am and that’s too many people
and there’s some creative moments of intimacy throughout the whole book
How important was it for you to have Lily and Bel’s relationship develop in such a specific way
really important because they’re both very sensual people naturally
Both of them just like intimacy and they got to discover what real emotional intimacy as well as what physical intimacy looked like
So it was really important for me to have that friendship and also have them both just look at each other and go
a book set in the afterlife grapples with a lot of ideas surrounding faith
there were some real struggles with Christianity
Can you tell us more about exploring what can be a traumatic relationship
Lynn: That was drawn a lot from my experiences
Christianity makes so much sense in terms of what it values — of being kind to each other
what would that look like to have that genuine conversation
What kind of conversations would you want to have?” I had a lot of conversations with a lot of my friends who were also formerly religious
It was that reliance on God — we reach out for comfort or communication or support
I’m having a really bad day or I’m really struggling with this
There were some really hard conversations and hard research that I did to try and explore that and do it in a respectful way without just completely backing away from the conversation at all

HOUSTON – After the arrest of former Turkey Leg Hut co-owner Lyndell “Lynn” Price on arson charges related to the 2020 explosion at Bar 5015
federal prosecutors on Thursday argued in court to keep him in custody pending trial
presenting evidence and additional allegations
is facing three federal charges for allegedly masterminding the arson that rocked the Museum District on an early summer morning
were also arrested and charged in connection with the explosion
READ: Former owner of Turkey Leg Hut arrested after federal grand jury indictment for 2020 bar explosion
Price appeared handcuffed and shackled in an olive green jumpsuit
and Price acknowledged them with a nod as they entered the courtroom
He pleaded not guilty during the arraignment
Prosecutors argued Price is a danger to the community and could intimidate witnesses or jurors if released
initially argued the government hadn’t met its burden to justify the hearing
Judge Dena Hanovice Palermo allowed it to proceed
Egbuonu requested bond and proposed release conditions
An FBI special agent testified about evidence linking Price to the 2020 explosion
including geofenced data of the alleged arsonists cell phones and call records between them and Lynn Price
reportedly showed John Lee Price holding what appeared to be a fire source at Bar 5015
Geofenced data showed Lee Price’s cellphone within 22 meters of the bar at the time of the fire
Prosecutors said Lynn Price and Lee Price called each other just before and after the fire — the only overnight calls between them that month

Egbuonu emphasized that Lynn Price was not at the scene and was not holding an ignition source
He also pointed out that two of the alleged arsonists interviewed did not tell the FBI that Price paid them to set the fire
The defense argued that no other businesses owned by the same person had been targeted
questioning the motive: “If Lynn Price was motivated to set a competing business on fire
why didn’t he target other related businesses?”
after being arrested on unrelated federal drug trafficking charges in Mississippi
Prosecutors said he confessed to his role in the Bar 5015 explosion and implicated Lynn Price
Lee Price allegedly told investigators that Lynn Price directed him to recruit a crew for the arson and promised payment
also reportedly confessed to involvement and told investigators he feared Lynn Price
noting his reputation and history of violence
Bar 5015 owner Steve Rogers told FBI agents his impression of what led to the fire
He said he had an idea to open 5015 and initially was going to bring Lynn Price in as a potential co-owner
He then decided he did not want to do business with Lynn Price or his wife

Rogers allegedly told investigators that Lynn Price tried to buy into Bar 5015 and came to him with a box full of cash as payment to be a part of the partnership
Rogers said he took the box back to TLH and returned the money
Lynn Price called him sometime before the fire
yelling and hollering about him selling crawfish at 5015
Rogers allegedly told investigators that Lynn Price viewed it as a conflict of interest
Rogers stated that he heard Lynn Price say he’d “blow the place up” if certain conditions were not met
Prosecutors also presented text messages from Lynn Price that he thought were threatening
I will come to your house and kill that dog … stop playing and I mean it
Text messages between a former TLH general manager and Lynn Price were part of the presentation from prosecutors
The former general manager said she was arguing with Lynn Price on text when he told her
“I will come to your house and kill that dog … stop playing and I mean it."
Prosecutors also said she was reluctant to speak with the FBI
There were multiple text messages of them arguing about TLH because she was trying to help him and tell him what to do but he reportedly told her it’s his restaurant and he knew what to do
Egbuonu described the texts as profanity-laden arguments and claimed messages might have been spurred by that general manager allegedly stealing money from the business
acknowledging his client could have presented his side differently
Prosecutors detailed the relationship between Lee Price and Lynn Price
which began in 2018 after Lee Price was released from a 30-month federal sentence for tax fraud
Lee Price told investigators he worked odd jobs for Lynn Price
who was still under supervised release at the time of the arson
He said he would message Lynn Price with theft opportunities and Price would either sell or strip the stolen goods
Police officer’s vehicle stolen and burned
Lee Price described stealing a blue Chevy Nova that Lynn Price wanted for its engine
After discovering the car was stolen from a police officer
Price allegedly ordered Lee Price to get rid of and burn it
The vehicle was recovered near some railroad tracks and a retention pond
who confirmed the incident through a police report
Prosecutors allege that drug activity occurred at the Turkey Leg Hut from at least 2022 to 2023
Lee Price told investigators that he received money from hydro marijuana being sold at the restaurant
He would reportedly travel to California and bring it back in trailers to store it at the TLH facility because of 24-hour security
Lee Price reportedly picked up 500-1,000 pounds of drugs being sold on multiple occasions
The FBI agent testified that the trailer would be parked in the back of TLH
where three different types of marijuana were stored
Prosecutors said the TLH had special packaging for the drugs and after being sold
Lynn Price would collect the proceeds but share some of them with Lee Price for delivery
Prosecutors said firearms were seized at Lynn Price’s home on Monday following his arrest
Prosecutors noted that one of the recovered firearms was stolen and others were registered to various people
Lynn Price reported to live with his mother but investigators said that he actually lived at his own leased home in Missouri City
They noted he lied to the court about not having firearms and claimed he hasn’t paid rent at any point
Prosecutors said Lynn Price has violated court ordered protective orders at least four times and has allegedly committed various violence
Other alleged offenses presented by prosecutors:
investigators at the Texas Department of Public Safety had an ongoing investigation of Lynn Price related to identity theft
at the time he was arrested on federal charges
We learned in court that Lynn Price was evicted from his Missouri City home earlier this week
Lynn Price’s mother and others offered their support for him
The judge also accepted a letter from former NBA player and coach Don Chaney in support of Price’s character
One of the witnesses described Price as someone with “a huge heart,” adding
“He would give the shirt off his back if you needed it… he’s always looking to help people.”
The defense showed photos of Price helping after natural disasters
READ: Turkey Leg Hut giving away 3,000 turkey legs
Egbuonu said that another witness would testify that Price “always went above and beyond,” noting their 20-year friendship through church
assured the court she would ensure he attends all hearings

Prosecutors closed with a sharp warning: “You’ve heard the expression
there’s fire,” said federal prosecutor Sebastian Edwards
noting that Lynn Price has a pattern of responding to his problems (he was arrested for arson in 2005 and received deferred adjudication)
When the defense was asked by KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry about the prosecutors statement
"I thought the chickens come home to roost," Egbuonu said
We’re not going to litigate this case in the media
who noted she never went to the once-popular restaurant
ended the hearing by saying there’s a lot to think about and she’s going to chew on it
We’ll keep you updated on when the judge decides about keeping Lynn Price in custody

The capital murder trial for Michael Lynn Davis over the 2023
shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Harris is set to begin on Monday
The case is connected to former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles, who will be tried separately. Miles was a junior on the Alabama basketball team but was removed from the roster following the shooting
have been jailed and held without bond since the early hours of Jan
Investigators say Davis pulled the trigger of a handgun given to him by Miles
is expected to argue that Davis acted in self-defense
If Davis is convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole. Lead prosecutor Paula Whitley told The Tuscaloosa News on April 17 that the state will not seek the death penalty against Davis
with the state officially filing its notice of intent April 21
What we know about murder case involving Michael Lynn Davis
was arrested and charged with capital murder alongside Miles
Both were indicted by a grand jury on March 8
Maryland native and is not nor was ever affiliated with UA
The shooting took place in the early morning hours of Jan
15 on the Strip area of University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa
Miles and Davis were out with former Alabama basketball teammates Jaden Bradley and Brandon Miller after the Crimson Tide’s victory over LSU
cousin Asia Humphrey — a UA student at the time — along with friends Shu’Bonte Green and others
WHAT WE KNOW: When will Darius Miles murder trial begin? Latest on former Alabama basketball player's case
MICHAEL DAVIS: Attorney: Michael Lynn Davis not the 'bad guy' after capital murder charge against him, Darius Miles
Harris and company were seen lined up behind Bradley and Miles at 12:05 a.m
Their first known interaction was not until 1:36 a.m.
Bradley and Davis encountered a four-door Jeep Wrangler which Humphrey was driving
with Harris in the passenger seat and Johnson in the back left
which was stopped at the intersection of Grace Street and University Boulevard
with Miles eventually joining Davis and speaking into the Jeep with Bradley trying to pull Davis away
Surveillance footage showed Davis firing into the driver’s side window of the Jeep while Johnson
has said that Johnson shot first and that Miles provided the gun for protection
Prosecutors claim it was Davis who shot first
with Johnson turning left onto University Boulevard
he approached police by the Walk of Champions in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium and told them his girlfriend had been shot
Miles and Davis ended up at former Alabama basketball player Nick Pringle’s apartment at the Vie at University Downs
to report his friend had been shot but saying he did not know how
Police responded to Miles’ call at the apartment
where they collected statements from him about what happened
Miles went with police to the station and was placed in an interview room around 4 a.m
Davis received medical attention for a gunshot wound in his right shoulder and a graze to his right side at DCH Regional Medical Center and was then taken to the Tuscaloosa Police Department Violent Crimes Unit
telling police he was drunk and did not remember what happened
Both Davis and Miles have since been incarcerated and held without bond
Davis also applied for youthful offender status
Could Brandon Miller testify in Michael Lynn Davis' trial? There are 22 potential witnesses listed on court records in Davis' case
None were charged with a crime following the shooting but could potentially be called to testify
2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets
while Bradley transferred to Arizona following the 2023 season and Pringle transferred to South Carolina a year later
He has since committed to transfer to Arkansas
could also potentially be called to testify
and a smaller Union Hospital on Lynnfield Street
Both provided meticulous care to anyone who needed treatment
or if you had or didn’t have health insurance
All that seemed to change when the wrecking crew demolished Lynn Hospital and the nursing school next to the hospital in 1995
All that was left was a huge track of land
Stop & Shop eventually opened a store where a small part of Lynn Hospital once stood
the citizens of Lynn still had Union Hospital
And even though it was somewhat smaller than Lynn Hospital
it still provided more than adequate care to anyone who went through its doors
That means that anyone who has a medical emergency
particularly for the handicapped or the elderly
As anyone who has been in the emergency room at Salem Hospital knows
you have to wait several hours before you see a doctor
I believe a major mistake the medical hierarchy made was to close both hospitals in Lynn
Common sense dictates that a city the size of Lynn needs a small community hospital
although the politicians will say the money isn’t available for such a project
I say that’s a lot of “bull.” America is still the richest country in the world
and the cost of building a hospital in Lynn would be a mere drop in the bucket

Salena Lynn Fleenor, 17, left her home in the area of 12 Mile Road and Little Mack Avenue in Roseville at 1:30 a.m. April 20, 2025.
Her friends and family have not heard from Salena since her disappearance. On Wednesday morning, April 30, her mother, Christina Harcus, gave a Facebook Live update.
“It is now 10 days my daughter has still been missing, and there are no leads, other than right now, the only thing that we know is the last time she was seen or alive was on Easter Day,” Harcus said. “We have no other information.”
Roseville police sent out a release on April 26 asking for help finding the missing girl. It’s now been two weeks without any major developments.
Salena is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 140 pounds. She has blue eyes and long brown hair, and was last seen wearing an oversized black, hooded sweatshirt and gray/blue pajama pants with white print.
“Salena, if you’re watching this: I am mad, but I just want to know you’re alive,” Harcus said. “That’s all I want to know. Just pick up the phone, call, anything, I don’t care. Just please -- you are extremely loved by a lot of people, and we all want to know that you’re OK.”
Salena is known to spend time in the area of 13 Mile Road and Little Mack Avenue in Roseville, as well as the Walmart at 12 Mile Road and Van Dyke in Warren, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Roseville Police Department at 586-775-2100, or the dispatch center at 586-777-6700.
“I can’t thank you all enough for reposting and keep posting and asking to bring Selena home,” Harcus said.
“The little tips that are coming in -- thank you. Nothing is too small. Anything, please report them, and I just want to say thank you for everybody who has called, who has helped with flyers, just any little bit, thank you, and please continue to share everything every day until we get her back. Thank you.”

LYNN — With the school year nearing its end
Lynn Public Schools (LPS) is focused on completing the City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA)
The school will be based in the Fecteau-Leary building at 33 North Common St.
which will receive renovations before the start of the year
The school will be for grades 6 through 12
We are building futures,” Superintendent Dr
“This school represents our community’s deep commitment to equipping students with the skills
and critical thinking they’ll need to thrive in a rapidly changing world
and shape the future with confidence and purpose.”
LPS has been exploring the idea of CASA for the past two years
according to Executive Director of Innovation and Grants Management Dr
“We have a growing population of students in the district
This prompted us to really be thinking about all of our learning spaces that we have available,” she said
Gardner continued that LPS knew the academy was an exciting new choice for students and families to explore
“All of the new learning spaces that we want to open
we want to be innovative and we want to engage students
When students are deeply interested in a pathway
That’s what we’re looking to build at City Arts and Sciences Academy,” she said
The district visited two schools while exploring the idea of CASA: Boston Arts Academy and Baxter Academy for Technology and Science in Portland
“Both of those schools were using STEM pathways
and we could see a different type of school day that was occurring
Students had pathways for their interest in those schools
Students had independent learning and projects
and those were great models for us to see,” Gardner said
CASA will have project-based learning to help connect learning skills in multiple content areas to provide students a different type of learning experience
“What we envision is student are learning their content areas
but we’re bringing it together through projects
Project-based learning is at the foundation of the design at CASA,” she said
“Teachers from different content areas will have one day out of the five days where students will be working on projects that are connected to their content areas.”
When asked what the response has been from parents and students
she said that they’ve heard from many who have recognized CASA as the place for them
and problem solvers all can find their place at City Arts and Sciences Academy,” she said
Gardner also explained that CASA was created with trimesters to give students more opportunities to explore electives
“There will be more opportunities for students to do more of what they’re interested in and that they love
we have more opportunities for them to do that,” she said
Gardner also mentioned that the school days will be longer for this same reason
The school will be opening in September and has already gone through the lottery and recruitment process. Anyone looking for more information can visit the school’s website
