— The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Chico is investigating a crash off Skyway Road in Magalia that ended in the death of a 25-year-old man from Mentone and left 20-year-old Jocelyn Medina of San Dimas with major injuries
Officials said the crash happened just before midnight on Thursday
when a 2007 Lexua IS-350 veered off Skyway
Both the male driver and Medina were ejected from the Lexus as a result of not wearing their seatbelts
and Medina was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of major injuries
including whether alcohol or distracted driving played a role

Investigators determined the suspects were possibly known to the victims and associated with a nearby home
prompting them to obtain a search warrant for the property
arrested and ultimately booked into the Butte County Jail for various firearm and narcotics charges
The BCSO said Britt was arrested for child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance
Gould was arrested for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition
Gage for possession of a controlled substance while armed and possession of methamphetamine and finally Gardner for altering or removing a firearm’s identifying information

PARADISE, Calif. — An Oroville man who was arrested on Sunday after being accused offatally shooting a Magalia man was released from custody on Wednesday after more details emerged from the incident, police continue to investigate.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said that on Sunday, Sept. 22, 32-year-oldKindall Alan Woodward was arrested for shooting and killing 21-year-oldTyler Elijah Simmons.
The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday around 2:20 a.m. insidethe attached garage of a residence belonging to Woodward’s brother. Information gathered fromwitnesses and other evidence revealed that words were exchanged betweena group associated with Woodward and a group associated with Simmons before Simmons entered the garage and was shot, according to Ramsey.
Ramsey's office is working closely with theParadise Police Department to continue the investigation. Ramsey said thatadditional information is needed to evaluate potential claims of self-defense and defense of home by suspect Woodward before the filing of any criminal complaint.

On Wednesday, February 19 Butte County Sheriff's (BCSO) arrested two suspects after a vehicle pursuit in Magalia.
In a press release, BCSO said deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Nimshew Road at Carnegie Road but the vehicle failed to stop.
The driver, later identified as Lynell Anderson, 38 of Magalia, led deputies on a short pursuit before stopping in the 14000 block of Grinnell Court, where a male passenger fled from the vehicle on foot according to BCSO.
Officials said Anderson was detained without incident at the conclusion of the pursuit and deputies determined the male who fled on foot was Luke Anderson, 35 of Magalia. Anderson had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest and was also on felony probation.
BCSO said deputies established a perimeter with the assistance of the Paradise Police Department, who deployed a drone and BCSO Police Service Dog K9 Chico also assisted in the search.
BCSO said after the pursuit, Anderson fled into a wooded area down a ravine. K9 Chico led deputies down the ravine and across a small creek approximately 80-yards behind the residences on Grinnell Court. When K9 Chico was approximately ten-feet from Anderson, Anderson verbally announced himself and was taken into custody. Anderson had concealed himself under heavy vegetation and brush.
BCSO said K9 Chico’s training in tracking allowed for a peaceful outcome with no force being used.
Both Luke Anderson and Lynell Anderson were transported to the Butte County Jail for the following criminal offenses according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — A juvenile was arrested in Magalia on charges of manslaughter on Monday after stealing and crashing a truck with it's owner in the back, causing a fire.
The Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said that at around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, dispatch received reports from 50-year-old Robert Etta, who told police that his vehicle had been stolen near Crescent Drive in Magalia. Etta told police during his 911 call that he was in the back of the truck and was requesting deputy assistance.
The dispatcher stayed on the line with Etta while deputies were dispatched to the area, BCSO reported that the dispatcher then heard a loud crash over the 911 call.
BCSO said that when the truck was located on Carnegie Road, it was clear it had been in a collision and caught fire, which spread to nearby vegetation. Cal Fire responded to the scene.
Police said that despite life-saving efforts, Etta, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation led deputies to discover that Etta's vehicle had been stolen by a juvenile. BCSO said that Etta had jumped into the back of the truck to try and prevent it from being stolen.
The juvenile was injured during the crash and was treated at a local hospital. From there, BCSO said that the juvenile was booked into the Butte County Juvenile Hall for manslaughter.
BCSO said that they can not release any further information on the identity of the juvenile due to their age.

— One person was killed in a vehicle collision that appeared to knock out power for nearly 350 homes in Butte County early Monday morning
The collision happened at 14280 Carnegie Rd. in Magalia around 2 a.m., after the driver crashed, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP)'s incident page
There were reports of downed power lines at the scene
and the crash ignited a small brush fire that was quickly contained by Cal Fire Butte County
Nearly 350 PG&E customers were without power throughout the morning
The utility reporting that power was expected to return Monday at 2:30 p.m.

Down led deputies on a short pursuit before she crashed near Nimshew Road and Smokey Way and ran off on foot
The BCSO said three guns were found inside her car
Down was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries in the crash before she was booked into the Butte County Jail for shooting into an inhabited dwelling

He was arrested at his home on Kilgord Court in Magalia early Saturday morning

MAGALIA, Calif. — Cedarwood Elementary School in Magalia is revealing their newly renovated and enhanced campus just in time to welcome students back for the upcoming school year.
The school has recently completed the construction of sixteen new classrooms in order to replace the aging portable ones. This initiative was taken to address the rising costs of utilities and to offer modernized educational spaces for pre-K through sixth-grade students.
The school serves over 250 students in the Upper Ridge area. The Paradise Unified School District hopes to attract people back to the area by offering state-of-the-art campuses.
The ambitious project had an estimated cost of $27 million. Over the course of six years, the district diligently upgraded every school. Their ultimate goal is to reconstruct Paradise Elementary School, which was lost in the 2018 Camp Fire.
The construction work for the finishing touches at Cedarwood is expected to continue throughout the month, adding the final details to the project.
The first day of school is August 14 and the campus is located at 6400 Columbine Road in Magalia.

— An arrest has been made following an investigation into a residential structure fire in Magalia on Sunday
Cal Fire reported that during the investigation
an accelerant was found at the scene of the blaze
Jeremy Court Barker was identified as a suspect
and a search warrant was executed at his home on February 24
Cal Fire stated that additional evidence was discovered
further implicating Barker in the incident
He was booked into the Butte County Jail on charges of arson to an inhabited building and using an accelerant or flammable liquid during arson
Cal Fire emphasized their strict stance against arson
