hearing and we were told it's possible the new charges could be consolidated into one trial with his original charge Naresh's hearing is now set for Wednesday at 9 a.m Dates for his trial are expected charged in August with concealing the body of Mamta Kafle Bhatt — who was last seen in July and whose body still hasn’t been found He is now scheduled to appear in Prince William Circuit Court on Wednesday to be formally charged after a Nepalese interpreter wasn’t available Tuesday morning Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo said one reason for the updated charges was that they were able to match Mamta’s DNA to blood found at the couple’s home Lugo said “there’s a lot of evidence” in the case against Naresh “I know the crime scene was a big one The forensic unit at Prince William County said it was one of the worst crime scenes they’ve seen,” he said The chief added that he was sorry Mamta’s family found out more details of the charges because of “the courts posting it before I had an opportunity to talk to them.” Police have not yet talked to Naresh Bhatt but they have sent all of the collected evidence to prosecutors who “felt confident” enough to take it to the grand jury Monday and secure the indictment “I feel we have a strong case for not having a body,” Lugo said though he added that authorities still hope to find Mamta’s remains Lugo alluded to the notion that Mamta was likely dismembered inside the home we believed that she was murdered,” he told reporters Investigators conducted their first search warrant when Naresh Bhatt was home with the couple’s baby and discovered blood in the bedroom as well as the bathroom He added that evidence shows that Bhatt cut up his wife’s body In a detailed timeline, Prince William County prosecutors have said Mamta’s last video call with her mother was on July 29 which is the same day police believe she was killed prosecutors said Naresh Bhatt dropped the couple’s daughter off at a babysitter’s apartment early in the morning he was seen on camera dumping several plastic and trash bags into a dumpster at the babysitter’s apartment complex he went shopping at Home Depot and Walmart That evening he bought a “40-pack of extra strong black trash bags,” according to senior assistant commonwealth’s attorney Sarah Sami Naresh Bhatt was also captured on video in Falls Church retrieving bags from his Tesla and putting them into a trash compactor but his phone was inactive and not with him at the time over 150 gallons of water were consumed by the Bhatt residence — far more than the typical three or four gallons Naresh Bhatt was charged with a felony count of concealing a dead body and placed in jail A prosecutor had said in court over the summer that the amount of blood found in the home indicated injuries that were not survivable The investigation continued into her death argued that Naresh Bhatt was still entitled to a speedy trial on the count of concealing a dead body The trial on that charge was scheduled for next week a former hospital co-worker of Mamta and spokesperson for her family said the family feels “a sense of relief” that a charge has finally come “Their goal has been two things: justice for Mamta and securing a future for her baby And that’s what guides their steps every day,” Wirth said at the Monday news conference who told WTOP she was a survivor of domestic violence said she felt a connection to Mamta and helped in the earlier searches for her remains “People who have narcissistic tendencies he had no remorse,” adding that she has long believed Naresh Bhatt killed his wife: “I just wish that he would just have admitted it and save everybody the time and grief,” allowing Mamta’s family to grieve Mike Murillo and The Associated Press contributed to Bhatt, 37, and his wifeMamta Kafle Bhatt since she first went missing over the summer Naresh was arrested in connection to Mamta's disappearance and charged with Prohibition Against Concealment of a Dead Body Mamta went missing at the end of July and police presume she is dead. The defense has claimed Mamta could still be alive and missing His public defender is working to get him out of jail while prosecutors are working to keep him there claiming police used a "false statement" to obtain it so there was no probable cause to arrest him mentioning conversations with the prosecution Wednesday He stated possible concessions were made that could be more beneficial to his client but said he may potentially refile the motion at another date Ben-Avraham did not elaborate on the potential concessions made "You're being slightly cryptic here," Judge Irving told him She also raised concerns about rescheduling the hearing if a new motion is filed saying finding a Nepalese interpreter took a lot of calls "We're very limited in our timing right now," she told Ben-Avraham The prosecution did not object so the judge agreed to withdraw the motion for Thursday's hearing Naresh's next court date is a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Nov “[The defense] probably got some information that was better than they were going to get because they were going to likely lose this motion," opined John Fishwick Attorney for the Western District of Virginia "I doubt the Commonwealth's Attorney is conceding anything," he added "They may have provided information about how the search warrant went down and what their information is about the movement of the body That’s information that should be disclosed to the defense.” Mamta’s disappearance has sparked an outpouring of support from the northern Virginia and Nepali community Her supporters have gathered at every court hearing and spoke outside the courthouse Thursday morning Bina Khadkalama called the recent hearings called by the defense a "distraction." She said although she is concerned and anxious she is assured that "whatever time is given to the Commonwealth they have been utilizing it and working very hard." Khadkalama and other supporters are hoping for a capital murder charge Regardless of whether his charge is upgraded they want Naresh to serve the maximum sentence possible that so many of us that didn't know her connected so deeply and showed up at the right time to support each other and hopefully give Mamta the justice that she deserves," said fellow supporterBrianna Lambert the Manassas Park man connected to the disappearance of his wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt earlier this year will have a September 2025 trial after recently being charged with murder and physically defiling a dead body Naresh waived his right to a speedy trial Wednesday morning His defense requested his cases be combined to one trial Trial dates were set aside for 16 days on Monday through Thursday The judge also addressed a request from Court TV to film the trial saying there will be a hearing sometime after February to go over that The defense also asked whether the Court will make sure interpreters are available for the trial which court officials tell us is standard procedure to request the Virginia Supreme Court to assign interpreters Manassas Park Police and prosecutors have long speculated that Naresh killed his wife Mamta and disposed of her body a grand jury indicted Naresh for murder and physically defiling a dead body Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo held a press conference saying blood from the couple’s home matched Mamta’s DNA He said the evidence shows he dismembered her A community member said Naresh looked somewhat shocked when he heard the charges from the judge "I think he realized that there is a homicide," the community member said during a news conference after the hearing "I don't know whether he had communicated with his attorney or not at the moment Naresh's defense initially sought a speedy trial after being charged with prohibition against concealment of a dead body Wednesday's decision to combine his cases together canceled that trial on the same day he was supposed to have a preliminary hearing for it who at one point expressed frustrations over Naresh's efforts to hasten a trial said during a press conference following Wednesday's hearing that they are upset that the trials will be pushed back They said they hope for justice for Mamta and echoed a promise to attend every one of Naresh's court hearings "We thought that they were going to go ahead with the pre-trial for the concealment of the dead body," a community member told news outlets "But they decided to go ahead and just put it all in one which probably does make sense for the court's time but we do have faith in the justice system."
