According to the biography accompanying his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 Jacobs started using a microphone to enhance the sound of his harmonica over the noise inside the clubs "he took the technique much further than those who'd done it first," it reads After Guy spoke at the unveiling, he invited award-winning musician Billy Branch to play a bit of Jacobs' best-known song, "Juke." PHOTOS: Little Walter Festival PHOTOS: Birthplace marker for Marksville native, harmonica legend "Little Walter" unveiled Branch said Jacobs' influence cannot be overstated Branch said he's played harmonica professionally for more than 50 years and has traveled the globe while doing so He found youth he was teaching in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador imitating Jacobs' style adding he also encountered a school in China that taught Jacobs' style "Little Walter is the most influential harmonica player of all time "He used distortion and feedback way before (Jimi) Hendrix and the rock guitar players did." Billy Nungesser thanked everyone for supporting the state's tourism industry and he said is music is an important part of that there's something in the soil that must grow so much talent in Louisiana," he said "We get so much above our weight in the amount of talent that comes out of Louisiana." He thanked Guy, who was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 for starting the process that led to the historical marker as he began work as lieutenant governor years ago he learned about many musicians who had never been honored for their accomplishments A commission recently was restarted to promote local musical talent and Nungesser said local musicians would be appointed to it "to decide what to do better to promote all that local talent as they travel around the world making Louisiana proud." Marksville Mayor John Lemoine before turning her attention to Guy and I need the world to know how kind he is She thanked him for his efforts to see her father "I just need everybody to continue loving Daddy's music so he can keep going because the young people need to know about this," said Diaz She pointed to the harmonica Branch used and said it could be used to save lives but she said it's suitable for therapy for those with respiratory diseases because it makes you breathe in and out while playing said work is in progress to bring another festival featuring Jacobs' work to the area His grandchildren brought him immense pride and happiness He loved spending time outdoors and had a passion for cooking Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years Visitation will begin at 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Long Bridge Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Escude Funeral Home (318-964-2324) 6608 Porterie St Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInMARKSVILLE (KALB) - Louisiana State Police has revealed that a person has died from a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Scallan Street near MLK Drive in Marksville on Nov LSP was requested to investigate the incident by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office an APSO deputy was investigating several previous shootings in the area of the Bethune Community Center when an encounter occurred with multiple people on Scallan Street LSP said a gun was found close to the person shot who was transported to a hospital and ultimately pronounced dead Click here to report a typo Please provide the title of the article in your email Those left to cherish her memory are her sons FL and Rodney McGlory of Marksville; daughters Lillie Leviege of Marksville and Janet Jacob of Marksville; brother She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren Joseph & Lillie McGlory; siblings: Beatrice Ford Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Marksville have been entrusted with funeral arrangements “We want to inform you about an incident that occurred during tonight’s football game at Marksville High School The game was suspended and the stadium was evacuated after district officials were made aware of a possible threat posted on social media specifically targeting the event Following immediate consultation with local law enforcement the decision was made to clear the stadium and end the game early out of an abundance of caution reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our students and visitors for their cooperation during this process and appreciate your understanding of these necessary security measures."
