(WISH) — A combination of factors has led to the closing of a McCordsville brewing company
with the final day on New Year’s Eve
Scarlet Lane Brewing Co.
located on Depot Street just northwest of West Broadway beyond the railroad tracks
according to information on its Facebook page
Scarlet Lane’s Beech Grove facility closed last week
and it’s listed as “temporarily closed” online
Eilise Lane, the owner, operator and head brewer, said in a social media post on Thursday that interest has been expressed in the 4-acre site and its buildings and equipment in McCordsville
and the overall market led to the Scarlet Lane Brewing (SLB) team’s decision to sell
“We will get more sentimental in our posts as we get closer to our final service
but we want you to know that McCordsville means so much to me and the SLB team that I can’t put it all into words
Being a part of the town’s explosive growth over the last 10+ years has been extraordinary and makes my heart happy that we contributed to the town’s next chapter.”
The McCordsville building also contains Trax BBQ
which went on a break for the holidays earlier this week
The Hancock County town of McCordsville, which state records show has grown by 2,300 residents to more than 11,200 since the 2020 Census

Zaire Franklin held an official grand opening for the Rita’s Italian Ice he now owns in McCordsville.
It’s a place the Colts linebacker has fond memories of as a kid.
whether it was a warm day or something to enjoy with my family,” said Franklin
where can we get Rita’s from?’ and he said there’s not many of them around
that’s what sparked the whole venture,” said Eric Taylor
Taylor has known Franklin since he was a kid
“I’ve known Zaire since he was 9 years old
we became very close over those years,” said Taylor
The two are sharing a piece of Franklin’s childhood with the community that cheers him on
but also making sure he’s set up for life after football
“You’re only in the league for a certain amount of time and in all actuality
for the amount of time he’s been in the league
some people don’t spend half that amount of time,” said Taylor
Franklin is entering his eighth year with the Colts
he’s started a nonprofit and been an ambassador for women’s flag football
my goal was always to have a business outside of what I was going to do
it’s inspirational to not only my teammates but other guys I know coming in the league just to know that you can play at a high level on the football field but still pursue your career goals off the field,” said Franklin
“We always talk like Zaire can roll out of bed and play football
So right now we’re trying to set up things so that once football is over
he can continue to grow his community because he’s very big in his community,” said Taylor
Franklin has learned what it takes to start a business
“I’ve learned a lot of lessons in leadership throughout my time in the NFL
you’re trying to create a team and that comes with set principles

MCCORDSVILLE — The town of McCordsville has grown from fewer than 1,000 residents in 1990 to about 10,000 today
The town's police department is about to grow as well
The McCordsville Police Department is moving from its space in town hall to a standalone headquarters near the McCord Square development and Mount Comfort Road
The police department hosted an open house through the new building on Monday and estimates it will move in next month
Chief Paul Casey said the headquarters has 18,000 square feet
more than ten times the amount of space the department has in McCordsville Town Hall
The police department was founded in 1988 and Casey has been a part of the department for nearly its entire existence
He said the new headquarters is needed to recruit new officers while the town continues to boom
"I like to say we are prepared today for it," Casey said
we continue the need to recruit and this will be a great tool to show everyone that we're ready to take those applicants and get the people we need to run the department effectively."
the police department has 19 full-time officers and the capacity to hire three more
Scarlet Lane Brewing will pour its last pint New Year's Eve as the brewery closes its original and last remaining location
Owner Eilise Lane cited unexpected health concerns
general market challenges and the need for unexpected construction at the McCordsville venue for the closure
Scarlet Lane will be open every day with its usual hours through the end of the year
"This is not something we had planned on or hoped we would ever have to do
we are exploring current interest in our property and that coupled with sudden health changes
we decided it was best to move forward in this direction and focus solely on this goal."
Lane opened her flagship brewery at 7724 Depot St
pairing her inclination for Pacific Northwest-style beers with her love of all things horror
Self-billed as "the official beer of horror," Scarlet Lane steadily expanded into Indianapolis' Near Northside neighborhood
But facing a series of challenges including unexpected renovations
pandemic-related financial difficulties and Lane's ongoing health concerns
Scarlet Lane closed all five of its locations in just over a year
Its Near Northside tap house/pizza parlor and SoBro beer and calzone kitchen shuttered in December 2023
followed by its Irvington outpost in February
In her announcement of the McCordsville closure
Lane thanked longtime customers for their support over the last 10 years and welcomed them to visit Scarlet Lane until its last "last call" on New Year's Eve
"Being a part of the town’s explosive growth over the last 10+ years has been extraordinary and makes my heart happy that we contributed to the town’s next chapter," she said
and a unfavorable small business market decided differently."
