The millionaire heir of Eddie Stobart has been accused of 'intentionally damaging' two period cottages next to his sprawling Cheshire estate.
William Stobart, the son of haulage tycoon Eddie Stobart, had previously upset locals over noisy flights from his helipad in the leafy village of Over Peover.
Now, in a fresh dispute, residents have accused the businessman of intentionally damaging two 19th century cottages which he has applied to demolish for a new development - having yet to be granted permission.
Pictures from the last few weeks show a series of changes to the buildings apparently to make them appear derelict such as removal of windows and roof tiles.
Despite applying for his development in 2022, Mr Stobart, 62, is yet to receive permission to demolish the cottages, which are 'non designated heritage assets'.
His scheme has attracted opposition from both neighbours and the Parish Council which says plans will damage the character of the area.
William Stobart was previously embroiled in a dispute with neighbours over the use of his commercial use of his helipad at Oakfield Manor
Before and after: How the cottages looked before the damage was done to them
Residents have blamed the heir to Eddie Stobart's haulage company for damaging two period cottages next to his Cheshire estate
Mr Stobart's company has stripped out all the windows from the property despite having not been granted permission to demolish the period cottage
But photos show that work has gone ahead anyway, with all the windows taken out. In addition, aerial pictures reveal that tiles have been removed from the roof, leaving the cottage vulnerable to rain water.
Mr Stobart acquired the cottages in 2017 and 2020 for £750k and £500k respectively
He then submitted an application in October 2022 to demolish them both in order to build a 'replacement dwelling'
But furious locals say the historic buildings contribute to the character of the area and have blasted Mr Stobart's 'astounding sense of entitlement' in proceeding with works without council permission
told MailOnline: 'It's all being done on purpose so he can say it's unsafe and it's got to come down
'Anybody could see the roof slates have been taken
They want the rain to get in so it will rot
'He is just ruining it for everybody and he's ruining it for future generations.'
The tycoon's plans were opposed by the local Parish Council
which said the 200-year-old homes 'make a positive contribution to the local character of the area'
It added: 'Continuously removing historic smaller cottages and replacing them with much larger properties cumulatively degrades the character of the Parish.'
Another resident who opposed Mr Stobart's application said: 'These cottages date back to the 1850s and are full of character
to demolish these and replace with a modern monstrosity is outrageous
'It would harm the character of the village by its scale and visual look.'
The cottages are considered non-designated heritage assets
A sizeable hole ripped into the ceiling of one of the cottages
An aerial picture shows tiles removed from the roofs of the 1850s cottages in Over Peover
An aerial picture shows the extent of the roof damage
A council archaeologist consulted as part of the planning process recommended that the cottages be either retrofitted or 'reconstructed..
They wrote: 'Whilst I acknowledge that the buildings are much altered I do not agree that this is to such a degree that it justifies their total loss
'Neither do I agree that the scheme which is currently put forward is a sympathetic replacement similar to the existing building
given the new large detached dwelling is to be set back from the existing building line
(behind a new front garden) with a much larger scale
'This application would result in the loss of this pair of NDHA’s and would therefore lead to the total loss of the significance.'
It added: 'This scale of loss would be unacceptable causing harm and having a negative impact upon the historic landscape in this location.'
A previous row between Mr Stobart and his neighbours erupted over his renting his helipad out to GB helicopters
who were using the estate for several flights a day without a permit
Councillors confirmed at the time that the tycoon did not have the required planning permission to use the landing pad as a business
The area is home to many high profile footballers including Manchester City's Jack Grealish
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander Arnold and former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce
said that works had been carried out due to the building being in a 'dilapidated state' due to water leaking
adding that the alterations were in 'full compliance with planning law'
A spokesperson said: 'We have made minor alterations to the exterior of the building
including removing window frames and roof tiles
These activities fall within the scope of permitted development
'We understand that some residents have referred to the works as "vandalism." However
this description is a misrepresentation of the nature of the work being done
The proposed design of the replacement dwellings respects the original architectural style and proportions of the existing property
'These works were carried out due to the properties being in a dilapidated state and uninhabitable due to water leaking

The best man speech is a crucial part of the wedding day
You don't want to be too soppy and it can't just be 20 minutes of ripping into the groom
And one woman was left sweating when her hubby's mate stepped up to do the honours:
Sophie tied the knot with her husband Ryan
celebrating their special day at Merrydale Manor in Knutsford
But as the guests and newlyweds sat down for their reception, probably a few drinks into the evening by this point, it was time for the dreaded speeches
Now, as I said at the top, there really is an art to a good best man's speech; it's got to cater for everyone in the room
And when Ryan's best mate Neil stepped up to deliver his, he really pushed it to the limit, and things got very uncomfortable..
In a video shared to TikTok by wedding videographer Videos By Tone
Neil says: "Him and Sophie also had not long moved into their new home
and he asked if I could do him a favour whenever he was working away
"He asked me if Sophie was ever in need
I would go round and just make sure she was okay."
Either because she has no recollection of these supposed visits or she is terrified for what he's about to say
this becomes a little bit more and more frequent
so much so that in fact Sophie actually got me a spare key because she used to just tell me to just let myself in
"And this has kind of carried on for quite some time."
It's here where the bride looks really bemused and can be seen laughing extremely nervously
Rounding off the mysterious tale
and the fact you two have finally tied the knot
I think it's only right of me to give you that spare key
The best man then pulls it out of his jacket pocket and places said key in front of the bemused bride
quickly followed by half the men in the room
The awkward titters then turn into full-on relieved laughter as the penny finally drops
27-year-old Sophie said she didn't have a clue what was going on
and she had no idea about this apparent special agreement between Ryan and his mate
"I can't even tell you how confused I was," she said
"Although we are really close to Neil and his fiancée
so I knew that if Ryan was going to ask anyone to look out for me then it would be Neil
"But then as soon as Neil mentioned about him popping round becoming a regular thing and me getting him a spare key cut
Confusion quickly turned to panic as Neil's story went on
"I was so confused but also worried," Sophie recalled
I had absolutely no clue where it was going and was terrified what the punch line was going to be."
it didn't end in tears and Neil didn't have a scene from The Graduate planned
Sophie said: "The ending was absolutely hilarious
I genuinely nearly fell off my chair laughing
but it was like a lightbulb moment as soon as the other lads appeared in front of me with their keys too
There genuinely wasn't a person in the room who weren't crying with laughter."

Almost a quarter of the schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system have new principals as they approach the start of the 2014-15 school year in August
including Belaire and Woodlawn high schools
Superintendent Bernard Taylor informed the School Board two weeks ago that he’d selected new principals for 18 schools
The principals assume their posts on Tuesday when the new fiscal year starts
Asked Monday about the status of the four principal vacancies
said the positions will be filled prior to Aug
More than half of the schools in Baton Rouge have changed leaders since Taylor took over as superintendent in June 2012
Taylor has created “super principals,” who will oversee multiple schools
Taylor announced in early June that Baton Rouge Magnet High School Principal Nan McCann will also run nearby Lee High as it rebuilds its campus on Lee Drive and tries to recruit hundreds of new students
Taylor alerted the board that he’d tapped Park Elementary Principal Jessica Brister to take over three elementary schools in addition to Park: Howell Park
The previous leaders of those schools are changing jobs
Melrose Principal Pamela Randall has resigned
Howell Park Principal Myra Jordan is shifting to associate principal at Howell Park and is reporting to Brister
Melrose and Merrydale likewise have new associate principals
Merrydale Principal Karla Johnson is now principal at Eden Park Superintendent Academy
Thirteen other Baton Rouge schools have new principals
and there’s some notable shifts in school leadership as a result
McKinley Middle’s longtime principal Herman Brister Jr
is moving up to serve as principal of the older children at nearby McKinley High School
is replacing even longer-serving Armond Brown
who has health problems and has agreed to serve as a “principal on assignment” over the district’s athletics and physical education programs
Taking over as McKinley Middle School’s principal is Wiley Brazier
Brazier was an assistant principal at Woodlawn High School
Glasgow Principal Diane Talbot will take a medical leave for the first semester of the school year and Erin Howard will take her place
Howard has been assistant principal at Southeast Middle
Taylor has yet to announce new leaders for four other schools
Woodlawn High School’s Principal Daniel Edwards, who took over in October 2012, is out as principal. The school system posted an advertisement for his replacement June 23
Belaire High School Principal Venesa Myers is no longer principal there after barely a year at that school
The school system posted an advertisement for her replacement Wednesday
Bromery would not comment on the status of Edwards and Myers
both Buchanan and Westdale Heights Academic Magnet
Hudson is now a supervisor of special education and Church is executive director for school leadership
Buchanan has a gifted program and Westdale Heights is a dedicated magnet school

LIONESS Chloe Kelly has tied the knot with long-time boyfriend Scott Moore
Man City ace Kelly
married greenskeeper Scott on a stunning country estate in Cheshire surrounded by friends and family
The happy couple exchanged vows at Merrydale Manor in Over Peover
Kelly - who scored the iconic winning goal against Germany in the 2022 Women’s Euros final - looked incredible in a long white figure hugging wedding dress, holding a large bouquet of white flowers.
While Scott stood next to her looked dapper in a dark suit and large dickie-bow.
The thrilled couple were spotted in the grounds of the picturesque wedding venue having their photo taken, surrounded by wedding guests.
In one shot the pair are seen kissing to the delight of onlookers.
Chloe announced her engagement to Scott in December last year after he got down on one knee in a romantic Northern Lights proposal.
The footballer shared a photo on Instagram of the pair in Finland against the incredible lit up green sky.
Showing off her huge diamond ring she posed with her hand on her fiancé’s chest, captioning the post: “The easiest YES. Here’s to forever with you”.
Chloe revealed she held the door open for him
and he used that as an opening to slide into her DMs
Their first date together was to IKEA because Chloe was moving home
Scott is currently a greenkeeper at a golf club
but he largely keeps their relationship away from social media
he was pictured wearing an England shirt with his girlfriend’s name emblazoned on the back
And he proudly watched on as Kelly scored the winner to clinch the trophy for the Lionesses
The happy couple were married inside Merrydale Manor’s stunning civil ceremony room which boasts limestone flooring
And after exchanging vows the pair joined guests for drinks and canapés served in a stylish bar and lounge area
before the couple celebrated at the wedding breakfast in the on-site Merrydale Suite
The venue can accommodate up to 200 guests
and those who have had one too many can stay over in one of the manor’s 19 bedrooms
The grounds of the opulent venue feature a grand driveway
and a serene lake and fountain - a perfect backdrop for wedding snaps
The venue is also becoming popular with Cheshire’s rich and famous
Last summer Kym Marsh’s daughter Emilie Cunliffe married Michael Hoszowskyj at the venue
While in 2021 Geordie Shore star Gaz Beadle tied the knot with wife-to-be Emma McVey
In an interview on the NewlyWeds podcast earlier this month Chloe revealed the moment Scott proposed in Finland
It was just such a happy moment!” she gushed
Host Jamie Laing then asked Chloe which was a happier moment - when Scott proposed or when she scored the game-winning goal in the 2022 Women’s Euros against Germany
“The wedding’s not been yet so I’m going to say the winning goal,” she laughed
as Scott could be heard in the background jokingly saying: “The wedding’s off!”
“I think because the smiles that it put on everyone else’s faces
scoring the goal at Wembley - that was the hard work I’d put in throughout my career
the sacrifices my family had made to get me to that moment,” Chloe explained
The owner of a Portland butchery watched as flames burst from the roof of the family-run business
owner of the more than 30-year-old Portland Meat Hyper
on the corner of Silversand and Merrydale Avenues
was alerted to the fire by the building’s alarm system at 4.15am on Sunday March 6
About 30 minutes later he got out of his car and saw the building ablaze
The butchery was a branch of the original Portland Meat Hyper
at the corner Montagu Drive and Kimberley Street
Mr Essack’s older son Rafiek told the Plainsman that their father was shocked and devastated by the fire but that the community had rallied with calls and messages of support
He said the adjacent businesses were not affected
They are hoping to have a temporary butchery up and running in about three weeks
City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Edward Bosch said they responded to the scene
where the butchery and its neighbours were alight at about 4.40am
Six firefighting vehicles with 21 firefighters responded to the incident
“Upon arrival the brigade found a shop well alight
Firefighters took over three hours to extinguish the fire,” Mr Bosch said
He added that no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined
Mitchell’s Plain police spokeswoman Sergeant Zandi Langa
said it had been caused by an electrical fault

Following three successful traffic fine roadshows at the Civic Centre in the Cape Town CBD
the City departments involved are taking the show on the road
and expanding the service offering to Mitchells Plain
The next roadshow will take place at the Lentegeur Civic in Merrydale Road
Mitchells Plain from Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 July 2024
The roadshow will run between 08:30 and 18:00 daily
The Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith says while it is a different venue
the concept remains the same – an opportunity to resolve outstanding fines
warrants and petition for a reduction in outstanding amounts
This also means more residents will now potentially have the opportunity to pay their fines
as not everyone is able to travel to the Cape Town CBD
Departments involved in the Road Show include the Traffic Service
this roadshow will also provide an opportunity for customers to resolve queries relating to their City rates/services accounts and complete applications for indigent and/or pensioner’s rebates
Residents are asked to bring their ID’s
copy of their accounts and three-months banking statements
People planning to attend the roadshow for assistance with their traffic fines are advised to have a valid form of identification (ID
passport or driving licence) or a Traffic Register Certificate
a copy of the ID of the person they are representing
and an affidavit granting them permission to act on the other person’s behalf
