Spending time with loved ones was at the heart of everything John did
Whether gathered around the kitchen table for a card game of "trentuno," enjoying a backyard barbecue
or just sharing laughter over a good conversation
he cherished every moment with family and friends
spending time at his camp in the Northwoods of New Hampshire
John also had a love for 80’s rock ‘n’ roll and could often be found at local rock shows
He always loved learning about American history and geography
topics that fascinated him throughout his life
One of John’s greatest joys was his loyal dog
Vinny—his little sidekick—whom he brought with him at every chance he could
Giuseppe and Cidolina (Lima) Calvo; his sister
as well as his beloved grandmother in Sicily
John had cousins and family in Massachusetts and New Hampshire as well

BOURNE — Prior to this postseason, the Bishop Stang girls hockey team had never won a playoff game in the program’s 12-year history
Now the Spartans are headed to TD Garden to play in the MIAA Div
1 state championship after reeling off their fourth straight tournament win on Saturday night
“I’m speechless,” said Bishop Stang head coach Bill Theodore
15 Bishop Stang to knock off sixth-seeded Methuen/Tewksbury
“To make history like this is insane,” said Bishop Stang sophomore Madisyn Blanchard
who scored the game-winning goal with 1:06 left in overtime
“It’s a huge feeling especially to help my team like that
That goal would not have happened if I didn’t have the support of my teammates.”
With Bishop Stang trailing 2-1 with a minute left in regulation
the Spartans pulled freshman goalie Vivienne Melo to put another player on attack
It paid off as Stang freshman Avery Frias scored the game-tying goal with 26.3 seconds left to force overtime
“As I was coming down the left wing and hitting the top of the circle
I saw I could use the defenseman as a screen which I did and then I put it right underneath the goalie’s blocker,” said Frias
Theodore sensed something special about the team in the preseason
“This is the first time we’ve had the combination of goaltending
We’ve had great offense in the past and we’d have to win games 8-6
This is the first time we’ve had it all together
Girls Basketball: Whitman-Hanson pulls off upset to end Dartmouth's playoff run, Cheesebro's career
Boys Basketball: Old Rochester continues Cinderella run to reach Final Four for third straight year
The historic playoff run has surprised many
“We thought we were going to go into this and we would be knocked out in the first or second round
but we really came together as a team and we really put everything together and we made something big out of it,” Blanchard said
Bishop Stang senior Kacey Curran put the Spartans ahead 1-0 when she scored on assists from ophomore Isa Rioux and senior Natalie Carrico with 7:52 left in the first period
Methuen responded midway through the second period when junior Ella Duffy scored to tie it up at one
The Red Rangers went ahead 2-1 just over three minutes into the third when senior MJ Petisce scored
It was back and forth between the teams until the final minute when Frias tied it up
“I knew that we needed something and I wanted to really generate it there,” she said
“It’s so amazing especially with me being a freshman and it being my first year.”
“That was the first goal she has given up in three games
WHAT IT MEANSBishop Stang (18-5-1) will face top-seeded Hingham (23-1-1) in the Div
1 state final at TD Garden on Sunday at a time to be determined
… Methuen finished the year with a record of 19-2-3
BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Methuen residents can now attempt to keep unwanted guests away from their doorsteps
Residents can add their addresses to a “Do Not Knock” registry prohibiting solicitors from visiting their property
Several people support the concept calling it a “great idea,” noting that soliciting must be a real issue if the city is implementing this law
Comments across social media claimed the soliciting is still happening even with the active registry
Any solicitor or canvasser who violates the ordinance and enters someone’s premises will be penalized with a $300 fine
The new ordinance comes as neighborhoods see a rise in robberies across the country involving suspects disguised as utility workers
two men posed as city workers attempted to rob an elderly man at gunpoint inside his apartment in Dorchester
