Home / Warriors Dominate in Memorial Stadium Appearance as Part of Husker Games
Not even Dylan Raiola could save Nebraska from the dominating performance of the Midland University women’s flag football team April 26th at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln
The Midland women rolled to a 60-0 victory over a club team from Nebraska during the first-ever Husker Games
The Husker Games are a replacement for the annual Spring Game
Midland senior Myana Sigers said the experience was one she will never forget and was grateful to have experienced in her final season
“It was even more than I thought it would be,” Sigers said
I don’t think we realized how big of a deal this was
For players who come from areas where they have professional teams
“We’ve had the chance to play in big stadiums before
and we felt a connection we haven’t experienced before.”
The game itself was no contest as the Warriors dominated the action throughout
late in the contest couldn’t prevent a shutout
The sophomore came onto the field for a handful of plays
including one where he was sacked by Midland defender NaTaija Blaylock
Raiola offered up a high-five to Blaylock after the play
“We’ve all seen him on TikTok and social media
and there was a big buzz when he came on the field,” Sigers said
“We all thought at first it was (Kansas City Chiefs quarterback) Patrick Mahomes
Sigers said the team was given a tour of the stadium and football facilities following the game and got a chance to meet players from the opposing team
“It was great to be able to interact with the other players,” she said
“I thought it was cool that even though they weren’t athletes
they will have the opportunity to add this as an intramural sport and make it bigger.”

GRANITEVILLE — Rob Pruiett likes to say his career path in recent years has taken him “from The Alley to the Valley.”
As the food and beverage manager at the Midland Valley Golf Club
which made its debut in April and is open to the public
“I found out retirement was both expensive and boring
and there was a hole in my heart,” said Pruiett
who took a break after his family’s popular Aiken Brewing Company closed in March 2023 in downtown Aiken
Known also as the “Brew Pub,” the Aiken Brewing Company was based at the Laurens Street entrance to The Alley
Dan Beavers and Mark Findley founded the restaurant
according to a story published in the Aiken Standard when it opened in 1997
The Pruietts became the Aiken Brewing Company’s proprietors in 2003
The Horse Creek Tavern has “a little Brew Pub flair,” Rob Pruiett said
The furnishings include tables and bar stools from the Aiken Brewing Company
There also are some Brew Pub offerings on the menu such as The Mother Plucker wrap
Rasta Pasta and The Big Tony double bacon cheeseburger wrap
“We’re doing our wings just the same because everybody missed my wings,” Pruiett said
“I had the best wings in town [at the Aiken Brewing Company] and I do them the same over here.”
Some of the Horse Creek Tavern’s employees are former members of the Brew Pub team
Pruiett is especially enjoying the opportunity at the Midland Valley Golf Club to smoke meat
they wouldn’t let me have a smoker,” he said
The Horse Creek Tavern serves lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday
“I’m trying to keep it simple and affordable,” Pruiett said
chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwich with a side of French fries
Among the choices on the dinner menu are grilled or blackened mahi-mahi
Jeff Petersen and John Lovin purchased the Midland Valley Golf Club in January 2024
“There weren’t any kind of sit-down meals happening at the time
and they hadn’t been doing that for a while,” Steven Petersen said
“They were serving cold cut sandwiches and that kind of stuff for the golfers only
But there was a demand for a better dining option
“A lot of our members were clamoring for it
and there was a lot of interest from our neighbors [in subdivisions],” Steven said
“we’re trying to increase revenues so we can get the golf course fixed up and elevate its quality,” he continued
“This is just one more step in the process.”
And Steven believes Midland Valley Golf Club has the right person in charge to make the Horse Creek Tavern successful
“Once we started talking about reopening the restaurant and getting it back going again
I would be interested.’ We talked to Rob for eight or nine months about doing something together
Pruiett is an asset because “he has a big following,” Petersen told the Aiken Standard
“A lot of people that were previously patrons of the Brew Pub have been visiting us
and they love it because it’s the same food they had there
The semi-private Midland Valley Golf Club is at 151 Midland Drive

Billings Central's William Snell uses track and field as a tool to bolster his credentials as a prospective college football player
"I'm always trying to get good times to send to coaches," Snell
a big pass-catching target for the Rams on the gridiron
But Snell might be selling himself a bit short on the track — he broke out in a big way Tuesday during the annual Midland Roundtable Top 10 at the LHS Sports Complex
taking down a 22-year meet record in the 400 meters
Snell finished the race with a time of 48.66 seconds
eclipsing his personal best and eclipsing the previous meet mark of 48.92 set back in 2003 by Bozeman High's Ty Norris
Snell's time vaulted him to the top clocking in the 400 in Class A and to second place on the list of the state's fastest 400-meter runners
one spot behind Kalispell Flathead standout William Hollensteiner (48.29)
"I really was honestly just hoping to go as hard as I can
I was not expecting to get the school record at all — the meet record," Snell said
16 athletes reached first place with new personal records
The Billings West boys 400-meter relay team of Caleb Conver
Westdon Kelly and Matt Ludwig raced to a new meet mark
Billings Skyview previously set the record in 2009 (42.37)
Belgrade's Wilson Schmidt also broke a meet record in the 800
finishing in 1:51.73 to surpass Billings West's Simon Petsch from 2016 (1:54.85)
Huntley Project's Avery Gerdes continued her remarkable campaign by breaking the meet's 400-meter record previously held by Billings Senior legend Christina Aragon
one of Class B's top all-round track and field athletes
edging Miles City's Peyton Frame and beating Aragon's previous record of 56.51
Thrower Rae Smart of Billings Skyview broke the meet standard in the girls shot put with a toss of 46 feet
The previous record of 44-07½ was set by Kylee Zent of Bridger in 2004
also claiming victory in the discus and the javelin
Gallatin's 1,600-meter relay quartet of Hazel Cooper
Finley Samuels and Isabel Ross ran 3:57.27 on Tuesday
which set the mark of 3:58.0 22 years ago in 2003
The full list of meet winners is below (personal records are in italics):
A previous version of this story omitted Wilson Schmidt's record in the boys 800 meters

Both starting pitchers were firing on all cylinders this evening as both Roman Angelo and Chen Zhuang went back-and-forth posting scoreless frames to open play
Angelo kept the RockHounds off the board through the fifth
picking up a pair of punchouts to keep the Midland bats at bay
The first run of the night would not be scored until the bottom of the sixth when Junior Perez launched a solo home run to give Midland the lead
Luke Mann checked in with a solo blast of his own to extend the RockHound advantage to two
Despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning
the RockHounds were able to slam the door on the Soddies
Amarillo will look to get back in the win column tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m
