The Millbrook Group has announced that its flagship Millbrook Credit Fund has received a 4-star “Superior” rating from SQM Research
upgraded from its previous 3.75-star rating.
The independent investment research firm highlighted the fund’s consistently strong performance
and effective capital protection measures as key drivers of the upgrade.
This recognition arrives amid growing scrutiny of the private credit sector
which faces increasing investor concerns around overdue loans
SQM Research noted that Millbrook’s higher-than-peer Sharpe ratio—a key indicator of risk-adjusted return—was a standout factor in its latest assessment.
“We are proud to receive this 4-star rating from SQM Research,” said David Lyall
“It affirms our commitment to capital preservation
risk-adjusted returns for our investors.”
The Millbrook Credit Fund focuses on real estate-backed private credit
aiming to deliver steady income while minimising downside risk
Its upgrade places it among the higher-rated offerings in Australia’s growing private credit market
reinforcing Millbrook’s position in the space.
Lyall added that the upgrade reflects not only past performance but also the fund’s ability to navigate a complex and evolving market landscape
and the importance of aligning with investor interests,” he said.
The fund’s performance and risk metrics were benchmarked against its peer group
and SQM Research concluded that it demonstrates “superior” attributes across multiple categories.
As institutional and retail interest in private credit continues to rise
the Millbrook Credit Fund’s improved rating offers additional assurance to investors seeking resilient income strategies.
The rating also serves as a testament to the fund’s operational strength

If you are a regular visitor to Main Street in Millbrook, you have probably already heard that Big Mike’s Steak House will soon occupy a very old building, that most recently was the WELCOME Food Pantry. But there is a lot more history behind the walls that remain.
Crews started working on the building recently, taking out two walls, and are working on the building. The first mural in Millbrook is located on the south wall and will be incorporated into the restaurant. It was hoped that more of the building could be saved, but unfortunately age and damage did not make that possible. Big Mike’s owners were adamant about saving as much of the original building as possible.
There had been discussions about perhaps razing the building entirely, but now at least part of the structure will carry on for generations to come.
I want to thank Jene Vincent Gober, a wealth of information and history in our area. He shared the following concerning the location, and it may interest you. He also provided one of the photos with this article.
He wrote recently about the history of that property, saying that location was once Cooks Drug Store. Before that it was McKissick Drug Store.
Over time the building also served as a martial arts school.
As Millbrook is seeing phenomenal growth, it is nice to see efforts to retain as much history as possible.

Two Capital Region men are behind bars after police say they were caught with more than a kilogram of cocaine during a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in Dutchess County.
State Police released an image of the cocaine allegedly found during the traffic stop in Clinton.
The stop happened on Thursday, May 1, in the town of Clinton, when troopers pulled over a 2022 BMW sedan for vehicle and traffic violations, New York State Police announced on Friday, May 2.
Investigators said they found about 1,176 grams of cocaine inside the car.
The driver, 43-year-old James E. Brown of Rensselaer, and the passenger, 23-year-old Jyquez K. Grant of Voorheesville, were both arrested, police said.
They were each charged with first-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The top charge is a Class A-I felony, among the most serious under state drug laws.
After being arraigned in Pleasant Valley Town Court, both men were sent to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

— The Tippecanoe Area Plan Commission approved several rezonings needed for a 328-acre housing development to move forward
brought forth plans for the "Millbrook" housing community via five separate agenda items Wednesday night for necessary rezoning spread across several plots of land
Stretching between Morehouse and Yeager roads
with a portion of land extending to the east of Yeager
the development would extend northward to reach County Road 500 North
a lawyer with RTS Law representing Estridge Homes
said the development would bring 771 single-family homes and 400 to 500 multi-family dwelling units to Tippecanoe County if approved by APC and the Tippecanoe County commissioners
The homes' values would range between $400,000 and $1 million
aiming to serve "all kinds of demographics
growing families and downsizing empty nesters."
The home types within the community would include larger
Amanda Esposito, APC assistant director, said that although this development is not the first to use the recently created R1T zoning to bring townhomes to Tippecanoe County
"We're excited at seeing these additional opportunities for home ownership that have not been available with larger lots and family dwellings," Esposito said
Munden said the developer also plans to build community amenities
Although the property the Millbrook is slated for also holds natural wetlands
Munden said the developer plans to retain those natural areas
with plans to build connecting trails for public accessibility
Munden said he had read some concerned emails from neighboring residents regarding a potential neighborhood access point along Old Oak Drive
but he and the developer agreed that creating an entry point to the community along that road would not be wise
"The concern was they do not want this neighborhood to connect on the Old Oak Drive because they don't believe that it's designed for that
and we would agree with those comments," Munden said
"We would prefer that there not be a connection there as well."
Munden said decisions around access points to the neighborhood will be addressed and pinpointed during the subdivision process for the Millbrook later
After APC voting members moved to approve all rezone requests relating to the Millbrook
the agenda items will move forward to the Tippecanoe County commissioners for a final vote during their May 5 meeting

for Retail Theft 2nd Degree pursuant to an investigation into a theft that occurred at Walmart in January 2025
Millbrook Police responded to Walmart regarding a delayed theft report
Walmart loss prevention personnel advised that on January 30
an unidentified female subject passed the last point of sale without remitting payment for assorted merchandise valued in excess of $2,000
Video surveillance captured the alleged offender leaving the business
transferring the property into a vehicle and leaving the area
detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit were able to identify the alleged offender
obtaining a warrant for her arrest on (1) count of Retail Theft 2nd Degree.
Millbrook detectives were contacted by the Montgomery Police Department
Hunter was turned over to Millbrook police
being placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant for Retail Theft 2nd Degree
Hunter was transported to the Millbrook Police Department for processing and later transported to the Elmore County Jail
who also held outstanding arrest warrants for the alleged offender for Failure to Appear on similar charges
Hunter remains in custody on a $15,000.00 bond
This arrest is yet another example of the cooperation between law enforcement
retail loss prevention and our law enforcement partners in the surrounding area
most retail establishments employ loss prevention staff
who utilize state-of-the-art surveillance equipment to protect their property and customers
people continue to frequent these businesses with the intent of committing retail theft and other crimes
these individual are taken into custody before they can leave the property
where the theft was not immediately detected
or the offenders manage to avoid apprehension immediately after committing the offense
they assume that they have gotten away with the crime committed
our law partners in the River Region and Crime Stoppers
are able to identify these offenders and obtain warrants of arrest in cases like this one
for those contemplating the commission of property crimes
just because you drive away from a business today without being apprehended
that doesn’t mean that you’ve gotten away with the crime
Our detectives do an outstanding job utilizing the resources available to them
as well as the partnerships that have been established to combat retail theft and related crimes committed in this region
Just because you leave this or any other city today
it doesn’t mean another law enforcement agency won’t be happy to detain you
they may even be kind enough to give you a ride to the county line
so that you can face the consequences of your actions.

As the boy tried cross Chapman Road from the Lilly Pad Place parking lot entrance to Chapman Road
traffic in Chapman Road’s westbound lane was stopped

an Alabama-based steakhouse that was voted "best steak in Alabama" by the Alabama Cattlemen's Association and was number nine on This Is Alabama's dining wish list
Originally founded in 2013 in Thomasville, Alabama, Big Mike's Steakhouse has expanded to several locations around Alabama
with this upcoming Millbrook location taking its spot as the eighth one in the state when it opens in August 2025
Their goal was to bring a quality steakhouse experience to smaller markets and rural towns so that residents don't have to drive to larger cities to get a good steak
The restaurant is going to be "mind-blowing" and a "huge win" for downtown Millbrook
It's projected to attract new businesses and visitors and revitalize the traffic and economic activity the area gets
More: Check out Valentine's Day activities available this month, for friends, couples or solo
"We've been looking for a catalyst for downtown," Kelley said
much more when you consider the traffic going up and down this road
the restaurant will be preserving Millbrook's history by remodeling an old building with significance
The building currently at the corner of Grandview Road and Main Street in Millbrook was the town's first drugstore when Kelley was growing up
and after that it was the site of the WELCOME Food Pantry — which distributes food and toiletries per year to those in need — for 25 years
After WELCOME Food Pantry moved to a new building
the structure at 3253 Main Street sat vacant for years
"They've [the founders of Big Mike's Steakhouse] never built a new building
They've always gone into the communities that they could make a difference in and remodeled
"They did the same thing in Andalusia and Thomasville
they want to make a difference in a town like ours
The original architecture and the mural on the south wall will be preserved
but the building itself will be renovated into a "modern but rustic" space with a bar
large windows where patrons can view Main Street as they eat
The 56,000-square-foot space will be able to fit about 200 people

“Native plants are crucial in maintaining diverse and productive ecosystems that every living organism on earth needs to survive
They are hosts for native pollinator reproduction; provide nectar for pollinators including hummingbirds
moths and bats; and provide habitat and a vital food source for many other animals,” The PA Native Plant Society noted in a press release
“Native plants are healthier and stronger having evolved along with native wildlife — they grow in harmony with their environment.”
According to the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society
there are tremendous benefits to adding plants native to Pennsylvania to your home garden

These teams met twice in the regular season with Mount winning both by an average margin of 18 points
"It's not easy to beat a team three times in a season," Jake said
"but we really wanted this and we came out and showed it."
Collin Hay scored 12 and Owen Iannucci had 11 points for the second-seeded Blazers (12-8)
winning six straight leading up to the final
“I’m proud of them," Blazers coach Brian Laffin said
winning a section championship and getting back to the final
I can’t look at this season as a negative.”
Millbrook did have a brief surge and pulled to within 14-11 on Hay's 3-pointer with 2:11 left in the first
but Mount took control in the second and pulled away
The aforementioned transition sequence with the Maendel brothers pushed their lead to 37-14 with 3:53 remaining in the half
“These guys have grown a lot and improved exponentially,” Leone said
“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win our last game
I think we’ve got a chance and we’re gonna give it everything we’ve got.”

Billy Thom called it “kismet,” the confluence of events and factors that led him to the Millbrook School
The Cold Spring native has spent more than a decade transforming the basketball program there
building one of the better prep school teams in the region and making the small boarding school a “hidden gem” for athletics
His boys basketball team last weekend completed its regular season and secured the No
1 seed in its class entering the uber-competitive New England Prep School Athletic Conference playoffs
Thom also earned his 181st career win and was named the conference Coach of the Year for a fourth time
Those accomplishments are some of the fruits of his basketball labor
He was born into a basketball-centric family
with a mom who played collegiately and a father whose superb coaching career earned him induction into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame
'Cindrerella'?: DeNatale shines as Marlboro stuns No. 1 Beacon in quarterfinal
Banner achievement: Dutchess CC wins Region 15 title, heads to nationals
Billy Thom was certain his future would be in coaching
and he sought to attend a college whose team would allow him involvement with its staff
and Thom learned for years under famed coach Bob McKillop
Many of those lessons in leadership and team development were brought to the high school level when he was hired as a teacher and coach at the Millbrook School in 2013
So began his ground-up rebuild of the program
constructing a hoops haven in eastern Dutchess County
The school now often attracts college-bound talent from New York City and has even drawn standouts from as far as China
The Mustangs (20-5) are favored to win their first NEPSAC championship
And that’s why Thom’s decision to step away was so difficult
“I’d been thinking about it for a couple years and was hesitant,” said the 35-year-old whose wife
also works at the school and coaches lacrosse
“You get into coaching because you want to share knowledge and help players improve
where you’ve gotten a program to a successful level and don’t want to leave it.”
Thom has worked for years as a student advisor
wearing multiple hats at the boarding school
and social work eventually became his passion
helping them develop routines to have the life they want,” he said
“I need the time and bandwidth to dedicate myself to that.”
He earned a master’s degree in social work in 2020 and opened a private practice
will allow him to grow the practice and pursue a PhD in sports performance psychology
a former assistant coach at Dartmouth University
“Knowing the program will be in good hands with Garvin definitely helped,” said Thom
who wants to remain involved as an assistant
“Coach Thom has meant everything to the program
so I support him in this,” senior Chase Garcia said
“He’s been coaching for a long time and juggling that with social work and a family
him taking time to focus on his passion makes sense and he deserves that.”
Thom always had an interest in people and personalities
and his manner almost naturally lends itself to a path such as social work
“He’s very personable and is able to easily connect with people,” said William Thom
who joined his coaching staff two years ago
“That’s one of his biggest strengths as a coach
knowing how to treat the whole person and valuing not just the athlete.”
Ball was lifeBilly and Ian Thom played for their father at Croton-Harmon High School
sharing in some of the 393 wins that William Thom amassed during a Hall of Fame career
“Dad was a huge influence on us,” Billy said
but there has always been a deep connection and Ian and I wanted to follow in his footsteps.”
Ian played at Birmingham-Southern College and now is an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
“wasn’t a great player” and didn’t pursue opportunities to play in college
instead steering himself immediately toward coaching
He began as a student manager at Davidson and became a student assistant as a junior
helping the staff scout and prepare game plans
It was during that period when Curry thrust the Wildcats into the NCAA spotlight in 2008 while making himself an NBA prospect
but I didn’t realize how incredible it was
watching someone take the nation by storm.”
as the team and staff essentially became a celebrity entourage
Billy soaked up knowledge from McKillop and adopted some of his methods of crafting lesson plans and teaching
He later was hired as director of operations for the men’s basketball team after graduating but had an interest in coaching scholastically
who gave him a heads up about the Millbrook School having openings for a Spanish teacher and a basketball coach
“He’s a very intelligent and personable guy,” said Garcia
Millbrook competes in a league with teams spread across New England with themselves and Trinity-Pawling as the local outliers
Thom built a roster that includes players from throughout the New York metro area with a sprinkling of international talent
“Winning a championship would be icing on the cake,” Billy Thom said
“We have a tremendous group of seniors and guys who experienced losing in the final last year
If we were able to come back this year and win it

A Millbrook man is facing charges involving the sexual assault of a child
Johnson says 18-year-old Dokata Hollinger of Millbrook is charged with three counts of rape in the first degree and sodomy in the first degree
Hollinger is being held in the Elmore County Jail without bond
Johnson says they got the complaint last Thursday
“I am extremely limited with regard to specific information that I can disseminate regarding this case due to the age of the alleged victim,” Johnson said. “Any time our department investigates a sexual assault complaint
our primary concern is for the victim’s well-being and their rights
particularly when that victim is a minor child
“It is my understanding based on the circumstances of this case
our detectives have requested that an Aniah’s Law hearing be scheduled
at which time a judge will determine the alleged offender’s bond amount
which will be based on evidence presented to the court
Big Mike’s Steakhouse will soon begin the reconstruction of the former Welcome Food Pantry on Main Street
It is expected to be operational later this year
The building will become the home of the restaurant
Mayor Al Kelley and council members were discussing tearing down the old building but wanted to try to save the original Mural completed on the building last a couple of years ago
the original Cook’s Pharmacy building will have new life
The formal announcement was made today at the location
“This is probably the worst kept secret in the world.”
The three original partners were present today and they are Mike Cole
Millbrook is the newest announced location to the franchise
The company’s website says there is nothing like the taste of a wood-fire grilled steak
seasoned and cooked to perfection with the tenderness to be cut with a fork but deserving of the almighty steak knife. The smells and slightly smoky flavor stir great memories of cooking on the backyard grill with family and friends while enjoying this great American tradition of eating steak
“great steak has been called “one of the best things in the world” and those of us with a carnivorous spirit in us absolutely agree
For this lofty praise we are not talking about the mass produced beef served by the large chain steak restaurants who call themselves steakhouses
Instead a claim like this is usually reserved for steaks served by those big city expensive steakhouses where everything is sold a-la-carte and high prices make suitable for only a rare visit for very special occasions or on a company expense account.”
The owners said they are proud to bring the “best thing in the world” steak eating experience to the people in small towns without the expense or drive that goes along with the big city steakhouses
Big Mike’s is famous for high quality steaks cooked to perfection on a wood-fired grill served in a relaxed rustic atmosphere in rural towns that have not previously been able to enjoy this type of true steakhouse experience
Big Mike’s Steakhouse was Alabama’s Best Steak By Alabama Cattlemen’s Association
It was also recently named as one of the top nine steakhouses in the state
We will have much more information on this announcement in future articles
Below are two frequently asked questions about the business

Big Mike’s Steakhouse is the vision of three friends
Big Mike is an experienced Chef and Restaurant Manager with ten years of steakhouse experience who had a vision for opening steakhouses in rural towns to provide a quality alternative for people who were tired of having to drive hours to get to the big city to enjoy a great steak. Scott and Caine shared in Mike’s vision and brought their combined thirty plus years of business ownership experience to the team
Together the three friends began planning for their own steakhouse and when they found the location in Thomasville
Alabama they knew that it was time to start the business
Today you can find all three of them working in the restaurant most days
Mike manages the kitchen and is the creative force behind the menu and the food
Scott and Caine focus on the front of house and administrative functions of the restaurant and can be found greeting and talking with customers in the dining room and the bar
Today’s Big Mike’s Steakhouse’s success can be seen through its raving reviews
steady business during the week and long lines on Friday and Saturday
a special meal or a night out with friends
We have also had a number of our customers inquire about opening their own Big Mike’s Steakhouse
which led us to launch our franchise program
Big Mike’s has been more than these three friends ever expected
that is what they are doing as part of the franchise program
All facets of the business have been documented from real estate to restaurant operations to human resources and beyond so that our franchisees can learn from our successes and our struggles. It is the assurance for our franchisees that they are in business for themselves but not by themselves

The person who reported the SUV said it had caused him to run off the road
Johnson said the SUV was spotted on Chapman Road
The police officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle
He said Wright turned on the headlights but refused to stop until she reached her home in the 400 block of Magnolia Loop.

leaving her with life-threatening injuries
Johnson said officers were called to a civil disturbance in the 800 block of Sweetwater Drive at about 2:10 this morning

Officers applied tourniquets to both of her legs
Paramedics from the Millbrook Fire Department responded and took her to a hospital.
Johnson said witnesses told officers who stabbed Scott

She is charged with assault in the first degree
which resulted in one of the parties calling a former girlfriend to come pick her up

families in the Vista Drive apartment building in Edison Township’s Millbrook Village awoke to alerts of a fire burning in the building
The fire heavily damaged many of the apartments and has displaced all 72 residents of the 36-unit building
Members of the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team were at the scene and worked alongside Edison officials to help those affected
a reception center was opened at the Edison Township Senior Center nearby to bring the families inside
Since many of the building’s residents have renter’s insurance that can help with temporary lodging needs
the families were then relocated to a local hotel
The Red Cross had lunch brought in for the families in the hotel lobby and volunteers were able to meet with households there and provide emergency financial assistance for things like food
Red Cross caseworkers will continue to meet with affected families in the coming days
One family at the hotel was happy to have Mango and Tofu – two adorable young parakeets – safely at their side
As she ran out of her apartment to escape the fire burning in the unit next to hers
their owner had scooped them out of their large birdcage and quickly placed them in a small gift bag
a small pet carrier was made available for the pair
a member of the Middlesex County Animal Response Team generously supplied a bird cage
and bird toys to help make Mango and Tofu as comfortable as possible
A Red Cross emergency response vehicle (ERV) was also available at the scene with coffee
lunch and snacks for first responders battling the fire
