firefighters found the Judicial Alternatives of Georgia Probation Office on Robinson Mill Road fully engulfed with flames
BCFD crews and Milledgeville firefighters teamed up to extinguish the building
and officials are asking community members to avoid the area if possible

– A series of shootings in Milledgeville last Thursday night left a home riddled with bullets
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office
Deputies arrived to find 30 shell casings scattered at the scene
A 10-year-old child was inside the home at the time
and a grandmother suffered an eye injury from shattered glass during the gunfire
Milledgeville Police were dispatched to investigate a speeding vehicle downtown
but officers were unable to locate the car
a man flagged down officers in front of the Milledgeville Police Department
That man was identified as 33-year-old Antonio Spencer
who claimed someone was trying to kill him
He reported that his house on Pine Valley Road had been shot up
Spencer appeared to be under the influence of narcotics
Milledgeville PD responded to yet another shooting—this time at Spencer’s home
another round of gunfire erupted at the same Lee Street residence from the first shooting
Chief Deputy Scott Deason said investigators obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle
which was later spotted using Flock security cameras
the occupants led them on a chase through South Milledgeville
eventually abandoning a maroon sedan and fleeing on foot
deputies arrested two brothers in connection to the shootings
33-year-old Antonio Bernard Spencer and 38-year-old Shawn Jermaine Spencer
which they believe may have been used in the shootings
was in possession of a .223 rifle," said Deason
Investigators believe the shootings were targeted and gang-related
a total of fifty rounds were found at that residence—some were .223 rounds
and some were .40 caliber rounds," Deason added
Deason emphasized that the violence could have resulted in even greater devastation
He also reflected on the changing dynamics of the neighborhood
noting that the closure of state facilities in Georgia has played a role in shifting the area’s crime trends
"The state of Georgia closed a bunch of those facilities
and it changed the dynamics of the neighborhood
It’s sad to see." Deason also spoke about the ongoing fight against gun violence
recalling a conversation with a concerned mother
but I can’t change fifteen years of upbringing in five minutes

a woman called police when the suspect jumped from her moving car
She told police she was unaware that the suspect was inside her car when she got in

While speaking with family members at the scene
a male subject suddenly charged officers with a knife
shooting the suspect.Both the officer and the suspect were transported to nearby hospitals
where they are currently listed in stable condition

(WGXA) — A Milledgeville man was found guilty by a federal jury for illegal possession of a firearm on Wednesday after a "tense" standoff with deputies in 2022
Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia
who was previously convicted of an aggravated assault
was found guilty of one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a two-day trial
Court documents reveal that in October 2022
a Baldwin County Sheriff's Office deputy pulled Mitchell over after he was seen running off the side of the road into incoming traffic on Vinson Highway near Laboratory Road
The deputy says they noticed that Mitchell had a strong smell of alcohol and slurred speech during the stop
Although Mitchell told the deputy he did not have weapons in the car
the deputy saw an extended magazine of a Glock 22 pistol between the driver's seat and the center console
The deputy told Mitchell to put his hands on the steering wheel and says she saw him lower his right hand
The deputy called for backup and took cover
and Mitchell placed the firearm on the passenger seat
More deputies arrived and he was taken into custody
while being escorted to the sheriff's office vehicle
"You better be glad it didn't go bad."
The Baldwin County Superior Court previously found Mitchell guilty of aggravated assault
and it is illegal for convicted felons to possess a firearm
Mitchell now faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison
followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine

Mary Parham-Copelan announced she plans to run for a third term in office
“The official announcement is going to come the Monday after Mother’s Day,” Parham-Copelan told WGXA News
“I’m going to invite you all to come down—we’re going to make it official at City Hall
but not a long time when it comes to getting the job done.”
Parham-Copelan highlighted several accomplishments during her time in office since 2018
including major improvements to the city’s water and sewer systems
and growth in the fire department under the leadership of Chief Collier
the city’s first African American fire chief
and I always want the public to know: we’re not in any financial distress,” she said
the mayor said there are still major challenges to tackle — including affordable housing and infrastructure
“My number one focus when I first ran was the water system
We’re still working hard to secure what we need to show people we’re doing what we’re supposed to do,” she said
but most of it is geared toward college students
We need housing that families can afford.”
Parham-Copelan said she plans to focus on bringing more career opportunities to the area
She also hinted at big plans for Milledgeville’s riverfront
“You’re going to hear a lot about the Greenway
I’m going to be pushing to get more done on the river—making sure we open it up and make it something special.”
As the first woman and first African American woman to serve as Milledgeville’s mayor
Parham-Copelan emphasized her commitment to being accessible to the community
call me—even at two or three in the morning
Parham-Copelan will face competition from current city council member Walter Reynolds
I just feel like I’m still what Milledgeville needs,” she said
“Putting me back in that seat will push us closer to where we need to be.”
(WGXA) — Two teens were arrested in connection to two investigations after officers seized stolen firearms
iPods and gaming gear from a Milledgeville home
According to the Milledgeville Police Department
detectives working on multiple entering auto cases at the Boulevard Apartment Complex obtained a search warrant for a residence on Fox Hill Road in Baldwin County
During the search detectives seized numerous gaming consoles
MPD patrol officers were also responding to multiple apartment burglaries at Revelry Flats Apartment Complex
Officers and detectives realized that the items reported stolen were the same items found during the search
MPD arrested 19-year-old Martez Harris and 17-year-old Micah Pittman in connection to both investigations
Harris was charged with entering auto and burglary
while Pittman was charged with entering auto
and possession of a handgun by a person under 18
MPD asks anyone who thinks their vehicle or apartment may have been entered since Tuesday night and have not reported it

following reports of a man running through yards
Officers on the scene found no one that was confirming the reports

Police released footage of the suspect who was caught on camera shortly after he jumped from the car
police got a call about an entering auto on Timberlane Road
officers found a pink towel and pants that the man had been wearing
Police believe the suspect is wearing only red gym shorts

in connection to the stabbing of an officer
Washington was charged with violation of parole
possession of a firearm or knife during commission of a crime and two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement
Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville Police Department officer was stabbed multiple times
and another officer shot the suspect early Sunday morning
Both the officer and suspect were taken to area hospitals and are now listed in stable condition

officers responded to an incident in the 100 block of Monroe Street inside Milledgeville Estates Mobile Home Park
Police did not say why they originally responded
While officers were speaking with family members gathering information
the “subject in question” charged officers with a knife and stabbed one of the officers multiple times
“While the subject was stabbing the officer
a second officer on scene then shot the subject,” the release said
Police have not identified the officers involved or the person accused in the stabbing

Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Officers with the Milledgeville Police Department arrested 30-year-old Dajuan Nikil McCormick on multiple outstanding warrants and new theft charges Tuesday afternoon after a foot chase
According to a post on the Milledgeville Police Department Facebook page
officers responded to a call reporting a theft in the Riverview subdivision
After speaking with the complainant and several neighbors
an officer found McCormick hiding in a crawl space under a house
Police said officers gave verbal commands for McCormick to come out
he tried to run but was tased and taken into custody
Officers are investigating several other thefts in which McCormick is considered a suspect
“We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this case,” the post said
The arrest comes days after a manhunt in the Carrington Woods area
officers were dispatched to Glenhaven Drive after reports of a man running through yards
officers responded to Dunlap Road and Pebbleridge Road after a report of a man jumping from a vehicle
Investigators learned the vehicle belonged to a resident of Glenhaven Drive and that the woman did not realize someone had been hiding in her back seat until the man jumped out and ran
officers were called to Timberlane Road for a report of an entering auto
Investigators recovered a pink towel and a pair of pants believed to belong to the suspect
the man was believed to be wearing red gym shorts
McCormick was later identified as the suspect involved in those incidents

Reynolds says his campaign is focused on three core issues: infrastructure
“There have been ongoing issues with the city’s water system
but I want to ensure the community understands how it will unfold,” he said
I’ve long supported our personnel and want to make sure they receive competitive salaries.”
Reynolds also emphasized his commitment to restoring Milledgeville’s award-winning Main Street to pre-COVID standards

the health system now offers obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) care at the Atrium Health Navicent Women's Care OB/GYN Baldwin Clinic
The clinic will provide prenatal and general obstetric care and gynecological services like pap smears and women's wellness visits
says that this clinic will support health challenges in rural communities
“There’s a national high demand for health care workers

UPDATE (4/23/25): A man who shot a store clerk during an armed robbery in Baldwin County has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole
according to a news release from the Ocmulgee District Attorney’s Office
Gregory Allen Simmons of Atlanta pleaded guilty to armed robbery in Baldwin County Superior Court on Wednesday
Simmons entered the Kuntry Stoe on Sparta Highway with a 9mm pistol
held the clerk at gunpoint and shot her once in the chest before stealing money
Deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Simmons within an hour of the crime
Detective Chris Burrell obtained a full confession from Simmons and recovered the stolen items

The armed robbery happened around 8:40 a.m.

A multi-agency search effort led to Simmons being found hiding inside a nearby home on Sparta Highway after a neighbor reported the house had been broken into

Witnesses told deputies that the man ran into the woods
Local law enforcement agencies conducted a three-hour search for the suspect
was found hiding at a home on Sparta Highway
The owner told law enforcement a neighbor noticed the home had been broken into before the arrest
Investigators are unsure if Simmons is responsible for the initial break-in at the home on Sparta Highway
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple recent thefts in the area

where they found a home had been struck by gunfire
Investigators learned the home belonged to Antonio Spencer and that he was connected to the maroon sedan reported earlier
Officers later found the car crashed in the woods at the dead end of North Wayne Street
Detectives spoke with Spencer at the hospital
but he gave “little to no information” about the crash or the shots fired
the deputies responded to a second shots fired call on Lee Street
Deputies spotted a suspect vehicle and began a chase
through the Central State grounds and several side streets before ending on Vinson Highway
The vehicle stopped in a driveway on Bell Avenue
officers found the men in the woods near Bell Avenue and Edwards Street
Deputies and officers took both into custody and identified them as Antonio Spencer and Shawn Spencer
Police say Antonio Spencer had a rifle when he was arrested

Milledgeville PD posted a video on social media and said that patrol units are searching the Carrington Woods area for a male suspect on April 1
units were dispatched to Glenhaven Drive after reports of a man running through yards
Officers searched the area but did not make contact with the male suspect
officers responded to Dunlap Road and Pebbleridge Road after reports of a male subject jumping from a vehicle
Officers discovered that the vehicle belonged to a resident of Glenhaven Drive
where they had been looking for the subject earlier
The owner of the vehicle said she was unaware anyone was in her car until she stopped
and the man jumped out from the back seat and fled on foot
officers were sent to Timberlane Road for a report of an entering auto
they found a pink towel and pants that the subject had been wearing earlier
The male suspect is believed to be wearing red gym shorts
Milledgeville PD is asking all residents to make sure their vehicles are locked and valuables secure
