Mich.-- Brad Coleman has rewritten the Cardinals' record books and cemented himself as the standard for the next generation of Millington hoopers
he set the school's all-time (2,058) and single-season (684) points records

and earned Division 3 Player of the Year honors
Coleman will be furthering his career at Grace Christian University; hear from him and new Millington head coach Ethan Brady on the senior's journey
Millington Central High School has fired girls basketball coach Jason Nichols after allegations of inappropriate conduct toward multiple players on the team, Millington Municipal Schools superintendent James Griffin confirmed to The Commercial Appeal on May 2
Nichols was placed on administrative leave without pay and was restricted from all school activities beginni on April 8 when the district began a Title IX investigation
According to a statement Griffin shared with The CA
the "process included a thorough investigation
the opportunity for all parties to be heard
the employee has been terminated effective immediately."
The school is now moving forward in searching for a new coach according to an email obtained by the paper that was shared with MCHS girls basketball families on Friday
Millington Central assistant principal Zane Adams coordinated the Title IX investigation with Deputy Superintendent Mark Neal and Director of Human Resources Patricia Speight in making the final decision
according to the obtained investigation documents
Neal and Speight "conclude that the conduct of Mr
Jason Nichols rises to the level of sexual harassment under the descriptor 'unwelcome conduct determined by a reasonable person to be so severe
and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person equal access to the recipient's educational program or activity."
Per documents previously shared with the paper
complaints related to the former Trojans coach included "reports of inappropriate handshakes involving sexual innuendos
The latest investigation documents state that investigators found "behavior occurred consistently from Fall 2023 through January 2025."
"We recognize the impact this may have on our team and school community," Griffin wrote to families
well-being and continued support of our students."

Millington Central High School has placed girls basketball coach Jason Nichols on administrative leave after allegations of inappropriate behavior were levied by players and parents
Parents said they made reports to law enforcement. The Commercial Appeal made contact with the Millington Police Department, which deferred to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office
The sheriff's office did confirm it was investigating "alleged misconduct of a teacher," but said documents in the investigation would not be open to the public unless an arrest is made
a public information officer with the sheriff's office
said allegations included misconduct toward "multiple students." He did not say how many or provide additional details
According to an email obtained by The Commercial Appeal
Millington Central opened a Title IX investigation on April 8 and then placed Nichols on administrative leave without pay after "reports of inappropriate handshakes involving sexual innuendos
have been redacted for the safety of the athletes
Parents were granted anonymity by The CA to avoid identification of the players
The email also stated that "(Nichols) entered (a player's) hotel room and playfully jumped on top of her while on an out-of-town basketball trip."
It was also mentioned that "in the cafeteria
(Nichols) grabbed (a player) around the neck and waist and that Coach Nichols would also make inappropriate comments
including offhand remarks like 'licking someone's stitches.'"
Millington Municipal Schools Superintendent James Griffin emailed MCHS parents on the afternoon of April 15
saying that the district is taking "this matter very seriously."
Griffin confirmed that "An investigation is currently underway
and we will take any further action as appropriate once the investigation is complete."
Nichols could not be immediately reached for comment
The parents of players who spoke with The CA described a tight-lipped environment around the team
with complaints against Nichols only surfacing in early April because players feared retaliation
"She said she was afraid," said one Millington parent
As parents began speaking with their daughters and matched stories with those of other players
and that the behavior dated back to "fall 2023," according to an obtained statement a player provided to MCHS
"That's when more complaints came forward of inappropriate touching
touching on the thighs," said a second parent
"Some young ladies came forward about him whispering in their ears
They all said that he had shaken their hands in that manner."
Families have met in person with the school's principal
Athletic Director Beth Hale and Assistant Principal Zane Adams
who shared the message with The Commercial Appeal
Adams referenced the school's Title IX policy
stating that "the investigator shall send to each party the evidence subject to the investigation and review," meaning that Nichols
who "denied all allegations," has received copies of the player's statements with their names listed
One parent expressed concern with this decision and doubts about the school supporting the student-athletes
"You're endangering the girls," a third parent added
"They didn't show any empathy or concern for the girls."
In response to their children's experiences
several parents have already transferred their children to different schools
with others planning to do so in the coming weeks
as parents had expressed complaints to Nichols and the school about a "lack of professionalism."
"He's not a good leader for these girls — just the way that he carries himself," a fourth parent said
"He's making passes with the moms (and) now
he's bringing himself to actually touching kids
and it's sick."While parents expressed concerns before
they said the concerns were never sexual in nature
"We never would've thought it would be sexual or inappropriate touching," a parent said
"We definitely said some things about how he talked to the girls
but this has blown us out of the water completely."
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available

(WMC) - Deputies and emergency services personnel with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spent all day Saturday responding to the impact of severe weather in their communities
responders have braved severe thunderstorms and floodwaters to help residents in Arlington
SCSO says the following efforts were completed Saturday:
SCSO earlier confirmed that amphibious vehicles were deployed in Millington to rescue two residents trapped inside their homes due to rising floodwaters
The rescue took place at a trailer park in the area of Highway 51
One other person was evacuated from a home in SCSO’s response area Saturday
though the sheriff’s office did not provide additional details about this rescue

and flooded roads leaving motorists unable to pass or stranded

The Go-Go's might be the most successful all-girl rock group ever
but the satirically monikered Fanny were the first all-girl group to get national attention
Fanny recorded four albums for Warner Brothers and then a swan song LP for Casablanca without the Millingtons
who teamed up for a duet album on United Artists
“It was interesting back in 1969 and fun to watch the audience's surprise as we turned heads around,” recalls June Millington
who still tours with an all-female backing band
but we could also see the mood changing and eventually we got standing ovations
We proved that females could play rock and roll – we sold sixty thousand copies of our albums
“Fanny was ahead of its time,” she rationalizes about the thirteen years it took the Go-Go's to top the charts
“We laid the groundwork in people's minds for groups like the Go-Go's who could break the stereotype that women could only play folk music
and the Go-Go's have a great snare sound.”
with bassist Jean Millington married to rock guitarist Earl Slick
drummer Alice de Buhr working for A&M Records
and keyboardist Nickey Barclay missing in action
Guitarist June Millington has remained active in the music industry
recording Heartsong on her own Fabulous Records (distributed by the feminist Olivia Records out of Oakland
California) and producing Olivia artists Chris Williamson
“I was just another name on the roster,” offers Millington about the reasons for starting her own label
“Only through women's music have I been able to expand my producing skills
but females are not hired as producers by the major record companies.”
Olivia is a collective of women who created a record company to offer an alternative to working within the music industry
They make cultural and political statements – anti-chauvinistic
and anti-sexist – and fill the void that exists
Thus it comes as no surprise that Heartsong is an all-women album
with Millington playing numerous instruments on a few selections
“I'm most comfortable on guitar,” she says
“When I was growing up in the Philippines
I heard someone playing guitar in the other room
and I was literally mesmerized by the sound
and Millington spent her teenage years in America
she has a Les Paul Junior with the action set up high
“I use a spark plug to play slide,” she informs
“It's a trick Lowell George showed me
It gets incredible sustain – metal on metal.”
Millington utilizes a unique modification on her Sunburst
She has a battery-powered booster installed for overdrive and funky sounds
The rhythm and toggle switch is now the on/off switch for the booster
The main volume control is right under the pick knob and close to the bridge so she can work it with her little finger and use it for a pedal steel guitar effect
One of the tone knobs is now the variable for the amount of distortion and one of the volume knobs is now the variable for each pickup that she utilizes as signal
“The Stratocaster has an incredible rhythm sound,” she states
“sounds that I can never duplicate on the Sunburst
“The bass frets were put on by Jeff Baxter in 1972 and because they're lower, they facilitate easier movement. The master volume pot has a mechanism that is activated if lifted up, which gives me a chicken pick effect of a Telecaster
“This can be heard on [Heartsong track] When Wrong Is Right
Jeff Baxter once borrowed my Les Paul for a Steely Dan session.”
Millington uses a beefed-up Fender Reverb amp and Ernie Ball strings with different gauges
“I experiment with gauges,” she explains
“I want a certain resonance but don't want the tuning to slip
On When Wrong Is Right, Millington played her Stratocaster through a small, portable Yamaha amp, and the guitar solo was tripled
she either performs with just an electric bassist or a four-piece backing band
“With just a bass player,” she feels
Millington would rather perform with her band

Millington Position 4 Alderman Larry Dagen has defeated Shelby County Republican Party leader Cary Vaughn to become the next mayor of Millington
while Vaughn earned 37.48% in Tuesday’s election
according to unofficial results from the Shelby County Election Commission
Dagen will serve a four-year term and succeed Mayor Terry Jones
Jones served as mayor from 2004-2008 and from 2012 until now
has served as Position 4 alderman since 2010 and is currently in his fourth term
Dagen said he will continue to focus on the priorities he had as an alderman
The mayor-elect hopes to continue the rapid development Millington has recently seen — about 500 homes will be built in the next two to three years
and 1,000 additional acres of property were recently approved for development
Dagen intends to support the growth of Millington Municipal Schools
and address high turnover rates among first responders through pay increases
After the newly elected Millington Board of Mayor and Aldermen is sworn in
it will make an appointment for Dagen’s Position 4 seat within 30 days
The appointee will serve the remainder of Dagen's term
which will be up for election again in November 2026
