There is one alleged reason that explains why the New England Patriots gave him away
This offseason saw both of the Dallas backup quarterbacks leave in free agency, with Cooper Rush singing with the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Lance getting an opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers
Before those departures - but in conjunction with them - Jerry Jones' Cowboys agreed to a trade with the Patriots to land QB Joe Milton III
the team's potential backup for this season behind Dak Prescott
Dallas also received a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft (who turned into UCLA DT Jay Toia) in exchange for a fifth rounder (who turned into LSU OG Miles Frazier) sent to New England
reports are coming out that paint an ugly picture on Milton's rookie year in Foxboro last season
It also may explain the reasoning for his quick sendoff
Milton did not make many friends inside the Patriots building
"Joe Milton - and this is a direct quote from someone in the organization - is not a good dude," Bedard said on his podcast.
“Knowing your role, playing your role, being part of a harmonious quarterback room — that was going to be an issue. It wasn’t about Drake Maye
was also a rookie quarterback with New England last season after being the No
Maye started in 12 of the 13 games he played last season
We do know that Milton thought he should be allowed to compete with Maye
who threw for over 2,000 yards and had 15 touchdowns
while Milton was limited to just one game of action ..
We also know that the Pats as an organization wanted to clear a path for Maye to develop
and and veteran signee Josh Dobbs - not a threat to that - was brought aboard
Was Maye feeling pressure from Milton after his solid one-game showing in Week 17?
We're sure the Pats would probably say that's not fair
given new Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer’s vigorous push for character
we assume the Cowboys did their homework here
“I like being me,” Milton said upon his DFW arrival
You’ll always see me smiling for one
and I’m always going to enjoy my teammates to the best that I can
being able to learn my teammates and get to explore and experience different things with them.”
“Anybody that’s played with me or been in that quarterback room knows that all I care about is everybody pushing everybody and getting better,” Dak said recently
“I’m excited to add Joe to the room …”
Is Milton - with his 6-5 frame and his mobility and his "Bazooka Joe'' arm but so little on-the-field polish - a "bad guy''?
We're sure the Cowboys would probably say that's not fair
While we wait to see what Milton can bring to the table in Dallas
there are some unflattering comments coming out about his time in New England

Those are interesting comments from Bedard
but it's worth taking with a grain of salt

-- An investigation is underway after a semi truck crashed into the entrance of a subdivision in Milton on Saturday
The incident occurred at the entrance to Ski Watch Estates
located just before the ramp from Gracon Point Road onto I-10
The truck took an early turn and ended up in the trees
A witness reported that the driver appeared to be going too fast and noted that similar incidents occur a few times a month
but there were some new signs put in by the county that said there was no outlet," resident Dan White said
"By the time the truckers see those signs
thinking they're on an acceleration ramp."
Residents expressed concerns that there is no way for the trucks to safely turn around once they are on the wrong road
Deputies are still awaiting the accident report from the highway patrol and will provide updates as more information becomes available

News that East Milton might finally be landing a long sought after medical facility has found a stinker of a way to make its way to the public eye
It arrives in a short note on the agenda appearing ahead of the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners May 5 meeting noting that it is incumbent upon the board to "discuss economic development wastewater treatment capacity allocations for a medical facility."
The agenda item goes on to state that a group calling itself East Milton Holdings LLC has formally requested the use of 8,000 gallons of sewage per day for said medical facility
for which construction is planned for the State Road 87 corridor north of Interstate 10
No East Milton Holdings LLC appears in a search conducted on the Florida Division of Corporations website
The allotment is part of what Santa Rosa County holds with the city of Milton for sewage capacity necessary for economic development
Though the city plant is at capacity and is not taking on new customers
the county allotment is counted toward that capacity
"The (county) administration has reviewed the economic development capacity allocations and has confirmed that there is an availability of 8,000 gallons to allot for the project," the agenda item states
whose District 2 encompasses fast growing East Milton
said he is thrilled by the proposition of bringing a facility to the area
He has long warned that due to traffic issues that arise at some times of the day emergency vehicles could struggle to get patients in dire need of hospital care into the city of Milton and to facilities operated by Santa Rosa Medical Center
"That's been one of my big pushes since I took office," Smith said
divulge the name of the medical group that is considering opening in East Milton
He could say only that a company is doing its due diligence
who acts as a community development liaison for Santa Rosa County
has been lobbying for several years with companies that might consider locating medical facilities in East Milton and he has said a lack of sewer capacity at the city of Milton treatment plant has long been a stumbling block
Holley said he has spoken to all of the four medical health services that operate in Northwest Florida − Baptist
which owns the Santa Rosa County Medical Center
"We've been talking for over a year to three of them and more recently conversations with the fourth have picked up," Holley said
He said he was not sure which of the companies had made the inquiry about sewage capacity with the county
"I think a couple may have made acquisitions (of property in East Milton)," he said
"We're just very excited we stimulated the conversation
With the city of Milton experiencing delays in getting underway on construction of a planned wastewater treatment plant that when built out will be able to treat eight million gallons of raw sewage per day
the county has decided to go into the sewer business as well
Commissioners have already expended $610,250 to design a treatment plant with capacity to handle 250,000 gallons of sewage a day and spent another $1.85 million on equipment
adding capacity to allow for another 250,000 gallons to be processed per day
will commence soon after completion of Phase 1
The cost of expansion was estimated to cost an additional $5 million
It is expected the 500,000 gallon capacity will give the county a couple of years of leeway before embarking on a Phase 3
which at this time is an expansion by another 500,000 gallons per day treatment capability to bring the total capacity to 1 million
The county plant will be built inside its Milton Interchange Park industrial park
which is located next to the Northwest Florida Industrial Park at I-10

Mike Vrabel became the head coach and made it a priority to surround Drake Maye with as much talent as possible
The New England Patriots have been one of the most active teams this offseason
That's why New England sent Joe Milton III and a seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick in April
fans were confused why the team moved on from Milton III for a Day 3 pick but a recent report revealed some behind-the-scenes details of why the Pats moved on
In an appearance on the Patriots Press Pass, Greg A. Bedard said Milton III was described by someone in the organization as "not a good dude."
Milton III reportedly was the cause of many problems last season
Drake Maye and his family allegedly didn't like that New England took Milton III in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft
They also didn't know when the team gave Milton III significant playing time in the season finale in Week 18
The Pats made the decision to boost Milton III's trade value in that showing

New England Patriots insider Greg Bedard reported Milton is "not a good dude" because he challenged for the Patriots' starting quarterback job
Drama is spilling out of the New England Patriots locker room after Joe Milton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys
The Patriots have a unique locker room culture
which was set by longtime head coach Bill Belichick
While that culture has carried over to other head coaches since Belichick's departure
it has upset some people that Milton came into the organization wanting the starting job instead of simply doing "his" job
Certain people inside the Patriots' locker room were not happy with Milton
a 2024 sixth-round draft pick by the Patriots
because of his desire to be the Patriots' starter
It reportedly hurt his reputation in the locker room and damaged the quarterback room
This type of reputation for Milton is interesting as he seemed to be a great locker room guy at Tennessee
He mentored Nico Iamaleava during his second stint as the starter and didn't seem to have any major issues after being benched for Hendon Hooker
The reality is that Milton likely saw the opportunity to be the Patriots' starting quarterback last year over Drake Maye and wanted to compete for the job
His Week 18 performance showed that he had the potential to be the best quarterback in the Patriots' QB room
the Patriots didn't want that and wanted to go all-in on developing Maye as New England's next franchise quarterback
Milton is now a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and will hopefully get a fair opportunity to become the Cowboys' next quarterback once they move on from the Dak Prescott experience

-- Some Milton residents are raising concerns over the planned site for the new wastewater treatment plant and spray field
The city has been trying to finalize a location and plan for the new site for years
but the residents have issues with the spot finally chosen
The city's current spot is polluting the Blackwater River
The new site is just north of Jeff Ates Road
who lives less than half a mile from the site
says the spot they’ve picked is not much better than the original
"The biggest issue is they're putting it right over probably the last pristine water source on this side of Santa Rosa County," he said
"It's 2,250 feet from the plant site to my well
so my well will be the first one contaminated."
City Manager Ed Spears says the new location is on city-owned land
"We're looking to move off of our waterfront to a high and dry location a mile away from the Blackwater River," he said
it comes down to the land development code and the technical process of 'Do we meet the criteria for the conditional use permit or not?' And we believe it does."
Patterson says that all the research he's seen shows this is not the place to put it
their engineer says all the aquifer flows north -- well the geologist tells you right here it flows south," he said
"The first capture point would be me and then Jeff Ates' well right there."
He says it's not even about him -- it’s about all the future generations
"That's what I'm worried about," Patterson said
"I don't think in my lifetime it'll probably pollute it

The next steps for the city are to get the plan drawn and engineered in compliance with the DEP
which will also have to get approved by the county

"Joe Milton almost had one of the best plays of the year."
Milton took a snap out of shotgun during the play and evaded multiple defenders in the pocket with nifty footwork and a beautiful spin move before delivering a strike down the field to Douglas in the front corner of the end zone
The play was ultimately called back due to a penalty
but it was a tremendous sequence that showed off Milton's ability to extend plays and create when things break down around him
Milton posted a five-word message with the shared video
"It counted in my books," Milton posted on Instagram
he'll now serve as the backup option behind longtime Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott

extracting a fifth-round draft pick in return
Considering the Patriots selected Milton in the sixth round of the NFL Draft last year
the deal can be seen as a win for New England
especially when you take into account that the University of Tennessee product was never going to usurp Drake Maye as the starter
Some questioned why the Pats decided to move Milton so quickly
as the general consensus was that the Patriots could have gotten more for him had they waited until the 2025 regular season drew nearer
when teams tend to become more desperate for quarterbacks
New England wanted to dump Milton as quickly as possible
and Greg Bedard of The Boston Sports Journal has revealed why
“Joe Milton — and this is a direct quote from someone in the organization — is 'not a good dude,'” Bedard said on his own podcast
He was impressive during the Pats' win over the Buffalo Bills
going 22-for-29 with 241 yards and a touchdown
He also reached the end zone once as a rusher
and once the Patriots did jettison the 25-year-old
head coach Mike Vrabel said New England made the moe in the best interest of the team
If what the team source told Bedard has merit (and we have no reason to believe it doesn't)
