United States and abroad it was rebranded to Minden Mill Distilling  Minden Mill’s straight rye is an easy drinking affair that’s well rounded and surprisingly sweet and rye spice on the palate are propped up by sweet undertones Estate whiskeys are typically grain-forward with the intent of highlighting the unique terroir of the region Minden Mill’s rye is far from grain-forward instead drinking more like a tried and true rye from an established distillery though they state their mashbill ratio was “designed to highlight the candied orange peel reflective of the Carson Valley terroir.” Interestingly Minden Mill swaps corn for wheat as the secondary grain While corn and wheat are both known for bringing sweet flavors to whiskey the inclusion of wheat seems to have contributed to a more defined undercurrent of sweetness that permeates throughout Minden Mill Straight Rye but the rye spice against this sweetness makes for a rye that skews just slightly from the established norm as a result it remains a fairly straightforward rye whiskey overall — A Minden teen is being held on a $250,000 bond after child pornography was found on his cell phone is charged in Kearney County Court Zimmerman His small community in Pottawattamie County about 30 miles outside of the Omaha metro area took a direct hit from a damaging tornado on April 26 Millions of dollars in damage was left in the aftermath we're coming back just as strong as we ever did because there's a lot of houses getting redone," he said "There's gonna be more people moving back in here mid-summer.” Zimmerman estimated that about 100 of the town’s 600 residents were originally forced to leave due to a lack of housing after the storm and it's actually making the town look pretty cool," Zimmerman said Finding the money to rebuild has been tough because Zimmerman said many people were underinsured I was about 60% insured on everything," Zimmerman said The town currently relies on a temporary wastewater treatment plant to get by while officials work to raise the $3.5 million needed for a new facility about a million or so short on our water plant," Zimmerman added “There's just a massive amount of money that's needed to do all this,” Zimmerman said The list of things that still have to be addressed extends past the necessities for homeowners Plans still need to be drafted for a new community center Many essential businesses are no longer there He said out of about of 26 to 28 businesses but I think they’re working on bringing it back,” he said While Zimmerman hasn’t calculated the total cost of the devastation he is heartened to see signs of nature’s renewal and it's starting to green up," Zimmerman said Minden weathered another damaging tornado that swept through in 1976 when Zimmerman was 10 years old They pretty much all rebuilt,” he recalled “But this storm was worse because buildings were just gone and I’m driving around looking at property I’ve seen thousands of times Zimmerman's outlook on severe weather shifted after living through a second “We used to sit in the garage and watch storms roll by," Zimmerman said I'm in the basement hanging onto our loved ones most powerful things I’ve ever seen,” I replied "Still brings tears to my eyes when I watch it.” “And that’s what small towns are all about," Wohlhutter added People rallying together and making it happen.” Not just building back but also building new Mayor Zimmerman was excited to tell us about new housing in Minden with the additions of duplexes and quadplexes Neighbors plan to gather at the town’s park on the one year anniversary Saturday for a barbecue Nothing flashy planned – just simply enjoying one another’s company Official Website Minden Mill Distilling is an estate distillery located in Minden The mill in which the distillery is located has a long and storied past Its main operation ended in the late 1960s and was named to the National Register of Historic Places After failed attempts to use it for other purposes his son Christopher took over ownership of all his business interests.‍‍From 2015 to 2019 the younger Bently spent an estimated $100 million converting the former Minden Flour Mill into Bently Heritage Distillery The distillery closed in March 2022 and was put up for sale in May 2022 Las Vegas Golden Knights pro hockey team owner Bill Foley purchased the distillery for approximately $12 million and reopened it.‍‍Starting in August 2023 distilling operations were conducted by Master Distiller Joe O’Sullivan He was previously the master distiller for Clear Creek Distillery and Hood River Distillers Though the distillery makes bourbon and rye they are particularly keen on American single malts as O’Sullivan apprenticed under Steve McCarthy who is widely recognized as the pioneer of American single malt pleasing scents of dried cherry and fresh oatmeal the aroma surprisingly lacks any hints of youth Additional scents of light oak and vanilla are present along with the faintest hint of cinnamon powder While the dried cherry and oatmeal notes are most prominent as they are delivered with just enough oomph to be pleasing without being overpowering The midpoint brings about more traditional flavors of oak along with vanilla-frosted yellow cake in tow It delivers these flavors with a surprisingly thin mouthfeel for a 94 proof bourbon but the thinness takes away from the overall delivery and holds it back from being more effective A gentle burst of baking and rye spices kicks things off Dry oak and leather follow along with a simmering spice-fueled heat as the finish stops almost as soon as it starts the finish seems like it has more potential but just stops short of reaching the next level doesn’t translate to a noticeably different tasting bourbon The opening aroma shows promise of taking this whiskey on a path normally not seen the palate and finish don’t drive it in that direction Future iterations may showcase more of the unique distillation traits employed but for now the resulting sip doesn’t tell the unique journey it took to get here Craft distilleries are usually known for pricing their products higher than more well-established distilleries Minden Mill Bourbon follows this same path as others when you take into account that the whiskey is 100% estate-distilled and one of the least expensive estate-distilled products you can purchase the price being asked becomes more justified will only care so much about its estate distilled label instead honing in more on the resulting whiskey in the bottle Taking into account the lighter sip delivered in conjunction with its estate-distilled qualification results in Minden Mill Bourbon’s MSRP being a fair asking price One of the few estate distilleries in the country Minden Mill Bourbon delivers an easy-to-enjoy sip but what it will taste like in the future is anyone’s guess Minden Mill Bourbon is a whiskey that has a lot of interesting history behind it The distillery that the Bently’s started now is owned and being guided by Foley Family Wines & Spirits This means Master Distiller Joe O’Sullivan may yet still make his mark on the brand and the whiskeys they produce It will be interesting to follow the progression as the old stock dwindles and the new distillate overseen by O’Sullivan eventually makes it to market in a few years the bourbon that is being bottled delivers a light though its lightness is also what makes it have a hard time differentiating itself in the marketplace Apr 13, 2025 8:00 PM EDTAmerican single malt whiskey is an exciting new category—sort of The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) only got around to recognizing it as an official category last December but distillers started producing the style in the 1990s Bottles of American Single Malt by pioneers like Westland and St George have been hiding in plain sight next to bourbons and ryes on shelves for decades waiting to be plucked from the shelves by those in the know having its own category makes the style feel fresh making it an ideal time for the uninitiated to go exploring and find a new favorite Minden Mill Distilling brought their first-ever American single malt to the market a couple of weeks before the TTB ruling It immediately established itself as a heavyweight within the fledgling category especially since Minden Mill isn’t a well-known commodity in whiskey circles just yet Diving into its story offers some justification for such claims Minden Mill opened its doors in 2019 as a single estate distillery that leans hard into the “grain-to-glass” philosophy It grows all its own grain on land located less than three miles away from its state-of-the-art downtown Minden facility. Like all American single malts, Minden Mill’s bottle is distilled from 100-percent malted barley. It’s also aged for five years in oloroso sherry, ex-bourbon barrels and it becomes clear it was aging the juice onsite since it officially opened its doors in 2019 In an industry where the temptation to fast-track bottles to market constantly persists particularly when it comes to a dabbling in a whiskey category that didn’t technically exist in the eyes of government regulation Minden Mill's deliberate approach paid off handsomely Charming hints of stone fruit and candied citrus pop on the nose surrounded by subtle barrel notes of oak and vanilla where a distinctive clove doesn’t just jump out at you few flavor notes have reduced my vocabulary to a sputtering hodgepodge of non-sequiturs and curse words The clove’s bold presence did just that when I first tasted it at the distillery the week before it launched Its intense bittersweet flavor lingers substantially before transitioning to a warm subtle snap of nutmeg and baking spice that lengthens with each recurring sip without overstaying its welcome Notes of sherry cask-induced almond carry the whiskey to a toasty lingering finish Since Minden Mill American Single Malt just launched in November it may be a little tough to find in the wild right now it's available for online purchase through its website and explore a delightful new expression from a newly recognized category.  His work can be found in several publications – Minden High School hosted a triangular on Tuesday with Holdrege and Kearney High JV competing © 2025 Nebraska Rural Radio Association. our identity," said Kearney County Assessor Jennifer Pittner Principal preservation architect Jerry Berggren "I don't see the tower collapsing on its own weight but what I'm more fearful of is without to maintain the dome's current appearance but acknowledged the need for financial resources two courthouses have undergone similar repairs A courthouse in Seward County had to repair their dome and they did so in 2021 without altering the design substantially a courthouse in Iowa had to remove the dome for their courthouse Lupkes said that they are against removing the dome in Minden but acknowledged that the possibility was raised in the event that they couldn't secure enough funding "It is an option that has been put out and it's not an option that we want to pursue I think that would be last resort," Lupkes said regarding the possibility of removing the dome The project could cost up to $18.3 million according to early estimates and while the county is beginning to explore grants public fundraising may be necessary in the future Pittner stressed the importance of preserving the dome's holiday light display Securing funding is expected to take years and the timeline for
