Jamaican 400m hurdles prodigy Roshawn Clarke remains positive and is already eyeing a return to competition after suffering a mid-race injury during the Grand Slam Track Series at the Ansin Sports Complex on Friday widely regarded among the most promising talents in global athletics failed to finish the race after clipping a hurdle midway through the contest who reached the final at last year’s Olympic Games in Paris appeared to pull up immediately after the stumble prompting medical personnel to assist him off the track While the race went on and Brazil's Olympic bronze medallist Alison dos Santos coasted to victory in 47.97 seconds whose abrupt exit sparked concern among fans and fellow athletes American Chris Robinson (48.92s) and fellow Jamaican Malik James-King (49.43s) rounded out the podium Clarke took to social media to ease fears and thank supporters for their concern and well-wishes for the support and medical care yesterday I really appreciate it; thank you,” Clarke wrote in a social media post "Thank you to my fans that continue to support me and were concerned about me yesterday My recovery will determine my availability again,” he added He also offered words of encouragement to his fellow competitors all the best tomorrow (Saturday) in that 400m," Clarke said In an event as technical and unforgiving as the 400m hurdles even a fraction of a misstep can turn a race upside down it’s Clarke’s resilience — and his meteoric rise in recent years — that make the athletics world confident this latest hiccup is only a temporary detour Bursting onto the international stage with record-breaking times at the junior level Clarke has quickly cemented his place among the elite His performance at the 2023 World Championships where he fearlessly competed against the best in the world signaled his arrival as a serious contender on the global circuit With the World Athletics Championships scheduled for later this year and the track season heating up Clarke’s health and form will be watched closely Despite being one of the most decorated sprinters in the Caribbean Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards says he remains unsure whether he will compete in the 200m or 400m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September after excelling in both events at the second leg of the Grand Slam Track series in Miramar I would say I feel equal in both events,” Richards said following his races 19.86 in the 200 and 44.32 in the 400—right now I don't know which one I’ll be running at the World Championships.” The 30-year-old finished second in the 400m on Sunday in 44.32 but secured the US$100,000 prize for winning the Long Sprints category having claimed the 200m on Saturday in a then-world-leading 19.86 His consistency and versatility have left selectors and fans alike pondering which event gives him the best shot at global glory later this year a 2017 World Championship 4x400m gold medallist and a two-time Commonwealth Games 200m gold medallist has quietly built one of the most complete resumes in the sport he feels his contributions often go unrecognized but I think I’m very underrated in this sport,” he declared Once I get that love and support from them Richards ran a stunning 43.78 in the 400m final—a national record and the fastest time ever run at the Olympics without earning a medal underscoring both his quality and the incredible level of competition has given him a platform to sharpen his skills in both events “I’ve been able to work on both my speed and strength and to execute my race models in both the 200 and 400 metres The Grand Slam has really helped with that,” he said Rag & Bone reinvented your favorite pair of jeans into sweatpants in honor of a love for elevated comfort I’ll admit it: My algorithm knows me well It takes one viral clip of someone raving about an ultra-soft and suddenly I’m spiraling down a rabbit hole of reviews That’s exactly what happened when I first saw “sweatpant jeans”—a hybrid style promising the structure of denim with the comfort of loungewear Are they truly as soft and effortless as they claim and even did the ultimate comfort test (aka sitting cross-legged for hours) Here’s my honest take—including whether they live up to the hype and if I’d actually buy another pair I consider sweatpant jeans to be one of the greatest fashion inventions of our generation Comfort is crucial when you're at your desk all day The amount of work the Rag & Bone team put into these is obvious The “stitching” you see isn’t even stitching—it’s a graphic print as I like to look polished when I travel (even for red-eyes) I get the look of real denim with the comfort of sweatpants let’s talk about the very first pair of sweatpant jeans I ever owned (and the ones that started it all for me): the Miramar Terry Wide Leg Pants They’re basically the OGs of the sweatpant jean world they don’t have a zip fly—they’re true pull-on sweatpants which makes them feel the most like actual sweatpants out of any style I own All the classic jean details—the pockets the overall vibe of this pair is more casual and laid-back so I usually reserve them for working from home I discovered another pair of sweatpant jeans: the Sofie Wide Leg Pants These feel a little more polished and refined compared to my OG pair I still wear them when I’m working from home but they’re also the ones I reach for when I’m heading into the office front pockets (perfect for tossing in my keys or wallet) but they still feature that same graphic print that makes them look like classic denim while feeling like sweatpants This pair has quickly become my favorite because they truly work for everything Nobody would guess my little secret—they just see a great pair of jeans I also think dark-wash denim always feels a little more elevated which is why these are already locked in for a few international trips I have planned this summer Some of these flights are going to be long and while leggings and sweatpants are totally normal for U.S I know in some countries that can come off as super American—and not exactly the chicest I’ll land looking polished and put-together—still true to my American roots ACNE Studios’ take on sweatpant jeans is next-level feels like a very comfortable pair of jeans Just a friendly reminder that summer is coming These look just as comfortable as a pair of sweatpant jeans I thought I was over distressed denim until I found this pair I’d choose these over black jeans any day I have so many friends who own these jeans making fashion engaging for a Mackey Christina Vazquez MIRAMAR – Top officials with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement joined Gov Ron DeSantis in South Florida Thursday to announce that they have just created a blueprint to carry out Trump’s nationwide mass deportation plan at scale Leer en español They spoke from the ICE-ERO Center in Miramar DeSantis was joined by U.S. ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan State Board of Immigration Enforcement Executive Director Larry Keefe and U.S Customs and Border Protection Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey Dinise A multi-agency immigration enforcement surge dubbed Operation Tidal Wave has resulted in more than 1,100 arrests in a single week in Florida — the highest number in the state’s history Sheahan said the operation created a “historic marker of a model” that can now be used in other states The effort, described as the “first-of-its-kind,” involved the activation of 287(g) officers and more than 250 members of the Florida National Guard to assist federal partners The 287(g) Program lets ICE work with local and state police to find and deport undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes aiming to make communities across the country safer Described as a force-multiplier in executing the Trump administration‘s campaign promise of mass deportations officials say the program was central to Operation Tidal Wave Sheahan said among those arrested were a Brazilian national with a history of aggravated assault a Mexican national whose record includes kidnapping and Colombian nationals convicted of murder committed some sort of other crime or have a record of committing another crime beyond the initial crime of being in this country illegally According to a press release from the governor’s office the countries of origin of those arrested include the following: Larry Keefe Executive Director of the State Board of Immigration Enforcement described Operation Tidal Wave as a “prototype” for mass deportation partnerships between state “This is quintessentially a numbers mission,” he said referring to the scalability of the operation it is not going to be just a succession of surges and press conferences The week-long operation put that strategy to the test creating what officials called a use case for future efforts They said it was successful and believe they have developed a blueprint that can be scaled up and exported to other states nationwide Officials credited ICE and cooperating state agencies for removing the individuals from the streets Sheahan also expressed gratitude to several Florida agencies for their support including the Florida Department of Transportation She also emphasized that the operation reflects the administration‘s broader immigration agenda Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and ICE are committed to making sure our American families are safe in their own communities because we have zero tolerance for illegal aliens,” she said The operation marks a new level of state and federal collaboration in immigration enforcement as officials push for expanded use of programs like 287(g) which allows local officers to act in certain immigration enforcement roles ICE officials have not yet released the names of those arrested but said additional details will be shared as ongoing investigations conclude “All 67 counties in Florida have agreed to the 287(g) agreement with their sheriff departments and we’re getting more police departments to get on board,” DeSantis said DeSantis says he wants to take the state’s role even further — beyond just making arrests — by using National Guard members as immigration judges “We have both a national guard and a state guard who are used to responding to different types of contingencies we have submitted plans to DHS to say if this is approved and we will really be able to do from soup to nuts even putting some of our people in the national guard in line to serve as immigration judges to process this DeSantis also revealed the state has submitted plans to the Department of Homeland Security to build tents to expand inmate capacity and proposed using members of the National Guard as immigration judges He said Florida’s hurricane preparedness playbook shows the state can quickly stand up infrastructure to support large-scale detentions if DHS gives the green light The governor also noted that even regulatory agencies — including the Florida Lottery and the Division of Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco — are now participating in immigration enforcement through 287(g) agreements He said agents operating in “target-rich environments” may come into contact with undocumented individuals during routine inspections The governor brushed aside concerns about due process arguing that Florida alone has tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants with final deportation orders and that number climbs into the hundreds of thousands nationwide Officials at the news conference said Operation Tidal Wave was a model for how immigration enforcement operations under a future Trump administration could unfold across the U.S Local 10 viewers can watch the news conference in the video below Related link: Doral joins ICE in San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria is proposing a package of new restrictions on accessory dwelling units which have boomed in popularity in recent years but provoked backlash from neighboring homeowners The city's Planning Commission is due to hear the proposal Thursday at 9 a.m. It comes after the City Council requested changes to the city's ADU bonus program which allows single-family homeowners to build at least four units in their backyards if they set aside a portion as affordable housing KPBS developed a map that shows which areas have zoning that would still be eligible for the ADU bonus program and which areas are proposed for exclusion. The map also shows areas with a high or very high risk of wildfires Gloria proposes requiring a property be "on an improved public street with at least two evacuation routes" in order to be eligible Under the mayor's proposal, large portions of La Jolla, Scripps Ranch, Tierrasanta, College Area and Encanto would no longer be eligible for the ADU bonus program due to their zoning. State law would still allow homeowners in those areas to build two ADUs Even in zones where the ADU bonus program would still apply many properties on cul-de-sacs and adjacent to canyons would be ineligible because they carry a high fire risk and lack two evacuation routes Also among the properties to be excluded from the ADU bonus program are sites where the program is impossible to use anyway canyons and cemeteries that are zoned for large-lot single-family homes despite no plans to redevelop them into housing city planners say at least 25,689 acres would no longer be eligible for the ADU bonus program under the mayor's proposal The program would still apply on roughly 82,970 acres though it's unclear how much of that area would be excluded due to other reforms under consideration Among those reforms is a requirement to provide off-street parking spaces for ADUs that are not close to public transit which are desperately needed to make San Diego more affordable Scouted selects products independently Before I discovered these faux jeans I had pretty much sworn off “hard pants,” as I like to call them I ditched anything with a button or zipper—and never looked back I’ve refused to return to traditional denim Enter the Rag & Bone Miramar collection Thanks to the brand’s innovative printing technique which makes soft fabrics look like actual “hard” denim you can keep up the illusion of wearing true pants without sacrificing comfort They look just like the real thing but feel like pajamas You’d never guess they aren’t real jeans either It’s impossible to tell that they have no zipper and 100 percent pure comfort unless you’re wearing them I’ve lost count of how many compliments I’ve gotten wearing them “Wait—those are sweatpants?!” people always ask And they don’t even have a real waistband closure I take a size large (they’re available in sizes XXS to XL) large—over traditional denim sizing like 28 Jamie StoneContributor Got a tip? weekend bringing Olympic star power and some of the fastest athletes on the planet to the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar for a three-day showcase of elite competition alongside fellow Olympic gold medalist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Olympian Freddie Crittenden to preview the event which runs from May 2-4 and features 96 athletes from around the globe “Grand Slam Track is the first truly professional track league for track athletes,” Johnson said “As opposed to these athletes having to wait every four years for an opportunity to show that they’re the best and compete against the best said the league has helped her grow as a competitor and push beyond her comfort zone “I feel like it’s an opportunity for me to grow into who I want to be as an athlete in this sport,” she said “I always tell everyone back home that I want to be known as one of the best to ever do it in my sport and so I feel like Grand Slam Track has really started to give me that platform.” She said the format has her running the 200 meters more frequently despite it being a secondary event for her “Now I literally signed up to run it four times a year and so I have no choice but to go out there and perform now,” she said a finalist in the hurdles at the Paris Olympics said the league fills a critical need for year-round competition “Every year you really don’t have an off year,” he said but every year you’re trying to push yourself and perform at the highest level especially with Grand Slam — racing the fastest in the world.” Johnson added that the structure of the league forces athletes to test themselves outside their specialties making for more compelling matchups for fans “Melissa’s the best 100-meter runner out there but then she’s got to come over and run the 200 “She may be running against people for whom the 200 is their primary event — like this weekend.” Tickets for the Grand Slam Track event start at $20 for general admission The races begin Friday and continue
