In a game that saw 29 combined strikeouts and 20 hits
the Modesto Nuts defeated the San Jose Giants 12-4 thanks to a 7-run eighth inning that seemed like it was never going to end
Modesto starting pitcher Christian Little got a no-decision but looked great on the mound
only allowing one run and one hit with six strikeouts in his four innings of work
The Giants scored first in the second inning but the Nuts quickly tied the game after first baseman Gabe Moncada doubled in his first at-bat
Moncada made his 2025 Nuts debut today going 1-5 with a double
Moncada played with the Nuts during the 2023 season
After the Giants retook the lead in the 4th inning right fielder Ryan Picollo jumped on the scoring
hitting a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2
Carlos Jimenez and Felnin Celesten added to the scoring to give the Nuts a 4-2 lead
After a rough defensive fifth inning for the Nuts
Piccolo gave the Nuts the lead all over again with a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning
With the game entering the bottom of the eighth inning with a score of 5-4
the nuts attacked the Giants bullpen for 7 runs in the inning to extend the lead to 12-4
Adrian Quintana picked up the win going 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and no runs allowed
Everyone in the Nuts starting lineup recorded at least one hit and as a team collected 15 total
Ryan Picollo hit his second home run in as many days while Austin St
Laurent shined at the plate recording three hits
The Nuts as a team collected seven doubles
Modesto regains the lead atop the North Division standings in the California League and will look to split the series with San Jose tomorrow afternoon
The Nuts will send Matt Tiberia (1-0 2.00 ERA) to the mound coming off a 5-inning shutout outing where he collected his first career victory last Sunday against the Stockton Ports

(FOX26) — The Fresno Police Department held a live news conference on Wednesday to provide updated information on a 2016 murder investigation
Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said Gurcharan Singh Gill was stabbed to death while working at a convenience store on New Year's Day
She said he was working at Shields Express at Shields and West when 15-year-old Bailey Rosenberger entered the store and
stabbed Gill 11 times and kicked him while he was on the ground
Rosenberger stole numerous items from behind the counter and left the scene on foot
the fingerprint evidence led to the identification of the suspect
Rosenberger was located in Modesto and arrested with the help of the Modesto Police Department on April 2nd
He was transported to Fresno and booked into the Fresno County Jail on April 10th on charges of murder and theft

“They came to the gallery with the idea to do an Aztec warrior-inspired piece,” says Chelsea Norris
“I showed them a large Japanese warrior piece by Demond Matsuo and suggested the artist may be able to transform an existing piece to fit the cultural vernacular of Modesto.”
Local artist Matsuo was up for the challenge
complete with imagery relevant to Aztec culture
Matsuo thoughtfully sets aside time for research on his subject
spending hours in the library becoming acquainted with his topic
the more feeling behind a piece,” Matsuo explains
People may not be able to recognize the symbolic imagery
patrons at the newly expanded Modesto can delve into Aztec culture through Matsuo’s work
The piece adds depth and meaning to the space
enhancing McCanless’s overall design with each symbolic detail
which symbolize divinity in Aztec and larger Central American folklore
collaborative effort that came out beautifully,” Norris says

– The every-other-game pattern for Stockton and Modesto continued through the final two games of the series with the Ports (13-8) winning game five that was suspended due to rain
and the Nuts (15-6) taking the finale 7-1 to split the six-game series
The Ports poured on the runs on Saturday night before mother nature literally poured on the field at Banner Island Ballpark
suspending game five after four innings when the rain delay lasted over 45 minutes
Donny Troconis was again spectacular in his start
as the 19-year-old only allowed one hit and one walk with three strikeouts
and he could have gone for his second quality start if it weren’t for the rain
Pittaro plated a pair of runs before a wild pitch scored another in the bottom of the first for an early 3-0 lead for Stockton
Pittaro drove in another run in the third inning and a balk produced another for a 5-0 Ports lead
and a Carlos Franco RBI single scored three more and Stockton was up 8-0 when the rain came down
Brayan Restituyo was on the mound when the contest resumed the next day
and he pitched three scoreless innings to continue Saturday’s momentum into Sunday and collect the win
Luis Freitez had two hits and a walk in his Ports debut
and his RBI triple (1) gave the Ports a 9-0 lead
Modesto got one run in the eighth off Blake Hammond and got two more in the ninth with the game still comfortably in the Ports hands
Rehabbing Major League reliever Michel Otanez struck out a pair before walking a batter and was on a strict pitch limit as he exited with two outs in the ninth
Tucker Novotny allowed a pair of runs to score for the 9-3 final
The seven-inning finale did not go Stockton’s way
as they switched to being the Cheladas for the second game and got a similar result as their debut two Sundays ago versus the Quakes
It was a good old fashioned pitcher’s duel through four innings
with Ryan Magdic going four shutout innings and allowing just one hit and one walk with four punch outs
Stockton went to ace Nathan Dettmer in the fifth
as he allowed three-straight hits to start the fifth
followed by two errors on one play by the normally sure handed Jared Sprague-Lott
and another base hit for a 4-0 Modesto lead
The Nuts scored two more times off Dettmer in the sixth and got another run in the seventh off Aidan Layton
The Cheladas pushed a run across in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Sprague-Lott
but that would be all the offense Stockton would muster in the game
– The first pitcher’s duel in this week’s 209 rivalry match up went to Modesto on Friday night at Banner Island Ballpark
with the Nuts hanging on for a 3-2 victory over the Ports to even the series and two games apiece
Each side managed to get some runs across against the starters in game four
before the bullpens were lights out on Friday
with Modesto squeaking out one more run for the win
with Modesto scoring on one of them in the first inning
The Nuts (14-5) got two singles through the right side and a walk against starter Jose Dicochea before an RBI groundout made it 1-0 Modesto
But Dicochea would get a strikeout and a groundout to allow just the one run
The Ports (12-7) answered in the bottom of the second when Tommy Takayoshi crushed his first professional home run 372 feet to right field with Cesar Franco on base for a 2-1 Stockton advantage
Modesto would capitalize on the first of two Ports errors on the night
when Ricardo Cova reached on a throwing error by Myles Naylor at third and came in to score on a double off the wall in center by Carlos Jimenez to tie the game at 2-2
An errant pickoff attempt by Dicochea allowed a runner to get to second in the fourth before a single through the right side by Carter Dorighi put Modesto ahead 3-2
Naylor and Davis Diaz both worked full-count walks in the fifth
but reliever Steven Sanchez got out of the jam on his way to colleting the win
Felix Castro and Riley Huge got Stockton out of bases-loaded jams in the seventh and ninth innings
but the Ports only managed a two-out hit from Franco in the eighth the rest of the way
Hitting Coach Ron Wittmeyer and Manager Javier Godard were each ejected in the eighth for arguing balls and strikes when it appeared the Ports got the short end of some calls that looked outside of the zone when they were at the plate
6.23) will start for Modesto against Stockton’s RHP Donny Troconis (3-0
It will be a fireworks night after the game and the Ports will celebrate being halfway to Halloween
Single game tickets, mini plans, and group outings are all on sale for the 2025 season. For more information, call the Ports front office at 209-644-1900 or email at [email protected]
– A comfortable Ports lead ended up a little uncomfortable late in the game on Thursday night
but Stockton hung on for an 11-8 victory to take a two-games-to-one series lead over Modesto
The Ports (12-6) led the Nuts (13-5) by 10 runs through seven innings of play
stretching their lead out to 11-1 before Modesto scored seven unanswered runs in the final two frames
Stockton’s plate discipline was on display throughout the night
working nine walks on the night while issuing only one of their own
Tzu-Chen got the win by allowing just one earned run through five innings on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts
The Ports scored twice in the second inning on a wild pitch and a throwing error from right
as Stockton’s base runners would put pressure on the Modesto defense all game long
They scored three runs in the third without a hit
getting bases-loaded walks from Cam Leary and Davis Diaz along with an RBI groundout by C.J
A wild pitch plated another run in the bottom of the fifth to answer the Nuts run in the top of the inning
before Stockton took their 10-run lead in the seventh
A walk from Leary and base hits by Pittaro and Carlos Franco started the inning
before two more bases-loaded walks by Joseph Rodriguez and Cesar Franco made it an 8-1 game
An RBI single through the right side by Ali Camarillo was followed by two more bases-loaded walks from Myles Naylor and Leary for the 11-1 lead
Modesto clawed back into the game getting three unearned runs off Jefferson Jean after an error started the inning and a two-run base hit got through the right side with two outs for an 11-4 score
Wilfred Alvarado got the final out of the eighth with a strikeout
allowing three-straight doubles and a single to cut it to an 11-7 game
Alejandro Manzano entered and allowed a double to make it 11-8 before retiring the next two batters to end the contest
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Davis Diaz’ on-base streak is up to 11 games and Pedro Pineda’s is up to nine
but Pineda did have to exit in the sixth inning after being hit on the hand by a pitch
UP NEXT: Friday’s 7:05 start will feature Modesto RHP Walter Ford (0-0
8.76) versus Stockton’s RHP Sam Stuhr (0-1
The first 1,000 fans through the gates will score a nostalgic

Francesco Modesto: “We put in a great performance”04 May 2025share-facebookshare-xshare-whatsappshare-copy-linkThe Post-match debriefingReflecting on Atalanta U23s' playoff win over Trento
Francesco Modesto stated how: "The lads approached the game really well
full credit to all of them: this wasn't a given
we faced off against a team renowned for never forsaking its playing style
Pity we had to concede just when we were close to making it 3-0
Today we only had an outcome going in for us
and the boys did brilliantly to stay focused and push through
but that’s par for the course in games like this"
"Defensive solidity in games like these is key," the Nerazzurri coach explained
apart from the one that brought about their goal
carefree team that revels in its playing style
Looking ahead to the next challenge against AlbinoLeffe
Now we need to recover and prepare properly
It’ll be the same scenario: they’ll have two results out of three
this mindset must become like second nature to us
The family will receive friends on Saturday

A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 12 pm with Reverend Johnny Rivera officiating
