Manchester City have had to switch their focus to Nottingham Forest ace Morgan Gibbs-White as Florian Wirtz will not be arriving in England this summer
Premier League sides are now aggressively attacking the market and want to secure their key signings as early as possible to beat competition to the punch. However, there will be disappointment surrounding one of the world’s most coveted players in Wirtz
Premier League clubs are starting to back away from the Bayer Leverkusen star and leave the race to European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich
Manchester City have been long-term admirers of Wirtz but have pivoted and are working hard to bring in Gibbs-White from Forest instead
TEAMtalk can reveal the Englishman is very keen to make the move and Forest are aware of his intentions to leave this summer
Forest hope to keep hold of Gibbs-White as he is one of their key players
but the reality is that this is unlikely and he will move on to play under Pep Guardiola next season
Talks are set to push on over the next week and City want him in place ready for this summer’s Club World Cup
TEAMtalk understands that City were joined by Arsenal
Liverpool and Manchester United in holding interest in Wirtz
but there was no real movement from the Premier League’s elite as the Germany international wants to continue playing under the guidance of Xabi Alonso

This has put Real Madrid in a very strong position as Alonso is set to take over from Carlo Ancelotti next season and has already expressed his desire to bring the 22-year-old with him to Spain
Sources state that Madrid have approved Wirtz’s potential signing
with an official move expected in the summer
Sources have also revealed that the playmaker knew of the possibility to play for Madrid – widely regarded as the world’s biggest side – last summer and that is why he held off on a move until the end of this season
who are pushing extremely hard to land the talented playmaker by offering huge sums of money
Bayern are also hoping his friendship with Jamal Musiala will pay dividends to bring him in this summer
but most sources expect him to move to Madrid
Leverkusen are also extremely reluctant to sell him to Bayern as they are a direct league rival and it would only strengthen them further
After learning they will be unable to snare Wirtz, City have been linked with a £60m swoop for Gibbs-White

A Morgan City man representing himself in a Houma murder trial was found guilty of a 2019 crime
jurors convicted Alvin Joseph Fitch of second-degree murder for his part in the death of Jake Menard
“Alvin slit his throat from here to here,” witness Seth Lovette said during the trial
pointing from one side of his neck to the other
He said after his throat was slit Menard asked Fitch if he was killing him
“‘You ain’t in hell yet mother [expletive]?’”
which took place in Judge Randal Bethancourt’s Houma courtroom
saw a multi-parish collection of law enforcement and others involved in associated crimes testify
The investigation was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Menard's skeletal remains were recovered Feb. 24, 2021
Fitch dismissed his attorneys and filed for a quick and speedy trial
The Houma Courier asked Fitch why he dismissed his attorneys
He said he was dissatisfied with the attorneys work
Lovette testified that his involvement in the night’s events began when he and others were doing drugs together
Lovette said he heard Christopher Martin and Fitch planning to beat Menard up over $1,300
Menard was winning the fight and Lovette grabbed him
and Lovette said he saw Martin throw a knife to Fitch
Lovette said Fitch commanded Menard to get undressed and make his way into the thick brush naked
When Lovette realized the situation was taking a turn for the worst
but was told to stay still unless he too wanted to die
Martin also faces second-degree murder charges for his alleged involvement in Menard’s death
He was not involved in the week’s proceedings but is scheduled for trial at a later time
Lovette has agreed to a plea guilty for his part in the murder
but said he has been given no promises by the District Attorney’s Office
Lovette said Fitch dealt the final blow to Menard
Fitch plunged the knife into his neck two more times
Menard’s body shook before halting movement altogether
No expert testified to the cause of death during the trial
but during his closing arguments he said Menard died due to blunt force trauma to the head
He said Lovette was the one who fought with Menard
and that Lovette was now trying to place blame on him to avoid punishment
“Why should I be responsible for this man’s death when he did it?,” Fitch asked
He told jurors he didn’t have the skills or experience to put forward a case as good as the prosecution
but reminded them that he cross examined the Director of LSU FACES Lab
who said Menard’s remains had a fractured cranium
which happened at or around the time of death
“That’s one check that won’t bounce,” Fitch argued
Both Fitch and prosecution asked Listi about the cause of death
To both sides she said she cannot determine the cause of death
Fitch attempted to object to statements made by witnesses and prosecution
But often he was overruled due to lacking a proper legal basis for his objection
He often was told that he would have a chance to cross examine witnesses to make his point
Fitch continuously referred to videos he wanted jurors to view that he had been given and previously viewed at the jail
Fitch said Bethancourt promised him a laptop to show video footage
Bethancourt reminded Fitch that he made no request to bring anything from the jail

Prosecutor Patti Floyd and Bethancourt explained to him that what he was calling evidence was not evidence in the trial
Floyd gave you in open file discovery did not go into evidence,” Bethancourt said
“Maybe you thought all of the open file discovery went into evidence
prosecutors must provide the defense all the information they obtain in their investigations
whether or not it aids the defense in their case
This information is not considered evidence in the trial until it has been introduced during the trial itself
she brought jurors through each witness’s statements as to not only the night of the murder
but each of the following crimes after the fact
She referred to Chance Boudreaux’s testimony
who said he was enlisted to drive them to a location with shovels
and afterwards to locations where they disposed of evidence
who said Fitch gave her Menard’s debit card to withdraw money and bring it to him
Gaudet has pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a moveable $1,000 or less
“His ability to control needs to stop today,” Floyd said
Post trial motions have been scheduled Jan
for Fitch and his sentencing date has been set for Jan

A Morgan City man is representing himself in a murder trial in which he stands accused of stabbing a man to death
Alvin Fitch dismissed his public defender and is representing himself in a second-degree murder trial that began Monday
Fitch is one of two men accused of killing Jake Menard
whose skeletal remains were recovered in Gibson
Christopher Martin of Berwick also was indicted for second-degree murder
Prosecutor Patti Floyd laid out a timeline of events in the November 2019 slaying
and he and Martin took Menard to Gibson with the intention of beating him up
“He watched as Alvin used that knife to slit Jake Menard’s throat,” she said
“He watched as he turned Jake Menard over and he jugged the knife in his neck and turns the blade.”

Fitch and Martin enlisted others’ help to dispose of Menard’s body and take money from his bank account
Floyd told jurors they would be shown photos from when the skeletal remains were exhumed from Gibson
and that she would have an expert from the Louisiana State University’s FACES Lab explain what injuries were caused at the moment of death
When Fitch delivered his opening statements he said the FACES Lab expert would prove Floyd wrong
“You will see the person was not murdered that way,” he said
“And the cause of death is going to be something totally different.”
Fitch told jurors he was innocent and that the evidence Floyd provided would contain “poisoned fruit,” at which point Floyd objected and jurors were forced to leave the courtroom
Bethancourt read from law books and explained the proper rules of engagement to Fitch

He told Fitch that opening statements were neither evidence
nor an opportunity to testify to what happened that night — that opportunity would come later in the trial
Jurors were brought back and Fitch continued
This time Fitch told jurors to ask Floyd to witness the full video evidence of the day
Bethancourt told jurors that they would not be able to ask for anything beyond what was provided during the case
and that Fitch was capable of providing any such video
“The defendant has all the evidence that’s going to be used in the case,” he said
