(WTVF) — Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) reported the death of a man in Wilson County who barricaded himself in his home Tuesday afternoon before reportedly firing a gun at deputies
TBI said the incident happened around 5:15 p.m
at a home on the 5100 block of Benders Ferry Road
where deputies from the local sheriff's office responded to a domestic disturbance call "several hours earlier" in the day
While law enforcement at the scene was negotiating with a man who had barricaded himself inside the home
he fired rounds from a handgun at officers from outside the home
Wilson County deputies returned fire and struck the man
who was later pronounced dead at the scene
TBI agents said their investigation is still ongoing and all findings will be shared with District Attorney General Jason Lawson
who presides over the 15th Judicial District
The identity of the victim has not been released
There were no injuries reported for deputies who were at the scene of the incident

Juliet Road with their lights and sirens activated in response to a domestic shooting-in-progress around 4:40 p.m
when they entered the intersection at Old Lebanon Dirt Road
unexpectedly hit the gas and hit the patrol vehicle in the rear wheel area on the driver’s side

The impact of the crash caused “disabling damage,” and the patrol car lost steering and hit the back of a pickup truck that had pulled over for the officer to pass
Juliet PD reported that the crash trapped the officer in the car due to the driver’s side damage
but he was able to escape uninjured through the passenger side
K-9 Officer Aksel sustained a serious leg injury in the crash and was immediately rushed to Avenue Animal Hospital before being transferred to emergency surgery at a “specialized Middle Tennessee veterinary facility,” MJPD said
The other drivers involved in the crash were evaluated at the scene and reported no injuries
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash
K-9 Aksel is new to the police force and was set to become a certified police dog next week

the pair was hit by a young driver at the Old Lebanon Dirt Road intersection
the young driver attempted to brake but accidentally accelerated into the intersection
hitting the police car on the driver's side
The police car then lost control and hit the rear of a pickup truck that had pulled over for them in the first place
he was trapped inside the car due to the driver's side door being damaged after the wreck
He was able to escape through the passenger side and immediately checked the welfare of K9 Officer Aksel
Aksel was transported to a nearby animal hospital
where he returned to stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery
No other injuries were reported during this incident
On Thursday, Mt. Juliet police gave an update on Aksel
stating he underwent his final medical procedure to repair his leg injury:

The 1-hour procedure addressed a complete tear of his Achilles tendon—a particularly devastating injury for a high-energy working K9
and the explosive movements required in patrol and apprehension work
An injury like this is often career-ending
He’ll remain under close watch by veterinary specialists and
will likely return home tomorrow to begin healing
Aksel’s recovery and rehabilitation are expected to take three to four months
There’s an optimistic 50% chance he could return to duty—a hopeful outlook given the severity of the injury

Juliet police reported that a police dog involved in an automobile crash on April 23 underwent a final medical procedure to repair a serious injury to his left leg

The 1-hour procedure addressed a complete tear of Aksel's Achilles tendon

and remains under the watch of veterinary specialists

Recovery and rehabilitation are estimated at three to four months
Aksel is a one-year-old Belgian Malinois and Shepherd mix who began service with the Mt
on April 23 as Harper was heading north on North Mt
Juliet Road and entering the intersection at Old Lebanon Dirt Road with lights

A juvenile driver initially stopped and then unexpectedly accelerated into the intersection
hitting the police vehicle on the driver’s side rear wheel area
The impact caused a loss of steering control and the patrol vehicle collided with the rear of a pickup truck that had pulled over to yield to the police vehicle
The officer was initially trapped because of damage to the driver's side door but was later able to exit through the passenger side
The dog was then transferred for what police described as an emergency surgery at a specialized Middle Tennessee veterinary facility
Aksel was demonstrating "strong promise in his role with the department," as he moved toward the process to gain official certifications

"Right now we're looking at between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and then about 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for pickups and drop-offs," said David Farrell, co-owner ofThe Magic Dog Bus.
“We provide transportation for dogs to and from daycare, boarding, as well as grooming appointments. We also do field trips during our bus routes,” said Jimmey King, co-owner of The Magic Dog Bus
and an affinity for canines is probably the most important quality he and his business partner are looking for when hiring their next employee
They're also looking for someone with enthusiasm and the ability to think outside the box
“We need somebody who is bubbly early in the morning
they can do something nice for the birthdays

but they will be trained on some of the safety procedures to operate the bus if hired

one of many customers who have been coming to Nell’s for decades
Nell’s now opens only on Thursdays and Fridays instead of five days a week
And if customers are one motivator for Bragg and Malone to continue
“All siblings can’t work together,” Bragg said

Moss's originally began primarily as a feed and fertilizer store started by brothers Charles
Moss's was previously located on Lebanon Road
Rice's Country Hams: The family business has been curing hams since the early 1940s
Rice's operates a retail store that opens seasonally on the northeast corner of Lebanon and Nonaville roads
and Mamie Rice bought the building that was formerly a county grocery store in 1933
At some point the building had to be moved from somewhere in the middle of Highway 70 due to road widening
The Rice's started curing country hams in the 1940s when the larger grocery chains took the place of small country stores and have been in business for more than 90 years

Juliet police say takes up a majority of their work
I went to the middle Tennessee suburb where they attribute this particular crime fight to a key tool

“You wonder sometimes being a business of women all the time if someone thinks that might be an easy target,” said Joley Poore
That's why she’s grateful to see the arrests and pull-overs happen outside their doors
“They’re (police) definitely working,” said Poore

Chandler says they started noticing a trend — police were investigating more crimes with vehicles like theft and break-ins
“We started to look for solutions to cut back that crime and our solution was license plate readers…our crimes related to car burglaries and vehicle theft have gone down significantly
Other crimes such as shoplifting have dropped significantly,” said Chandler
Last month's arrest records reflect another trend; with help from the license plate readers

“If there was more accountability on criminals in other communities
we would likely see less crossover crime,” said Chandler
“We would love to see other jurisdictions use the same technology and we’re here to support them.”
“They could be coming here to commit another crime so hopefully they’re nipping it in the bud before it happens,” said Poore
While the bake shop may deal with sinful sweets
they told me they’re thankful to know the police are taking care of the sinners
Juliet police estimate they've reduced crime by about 60% in the community
The city of Nashville has approved LPR technology
but the funding for contracts is still being worked out

other Chicago pictures and a wall with Illinois license plates that were brought in by customers
Similar Chicago-style decor is planned for the approximately 1,500-square-foot space at Robinson Crossing
“Our goal is to transport you to Chicago,” Geoff Russell said
He said they hope to open in June as remodel work on the space is competed
Campione’s Taste of Chicago was opened in 2008 by Jessica Russell's parents
who are retired but still involved in the restaurant
The Campione name is for Debbie Coxworth's grandmother
Juliet already had a connection to the Gallatin Campione's restaurant at 179 Hancock St
The restaurant has become a “go-to spot” for Mt
Juliet police officers when they go to Gallatin for police vehicle repairs
as well as off-duty meal visits over the years

Juliet Police Department shared an update following a crash on Wednesday that seriously injured one of its newest K-9s
MJPD reports that K-9 Aksel underwent his final medical procedure to repair a serious injury to his left leg he sustained in a crash involving a teen driver hitting a patrol car that was responding to a shooting
The procedure went well and Aksel is resting in recovery
Veterinary specialists will be monitoring him closely and if all goes well
he’ll return home Friday to continue healing
“Aksel’s recovery and rehabilitation are expected to take three to four months
There’s an optimistic 50% chance he could return to duty—a hopeful outlook given the severity of the injury,” MJPD said
