MURFREESBORO — In the cinderblock halls just off MTSU's Murphy Center floor, Munford basketball's JaDyn Lee and Elisha Patrick embraced principal Courtney Fee
the reality of the season's finality setting in
Munford made its first appearance at the TSSAA boys basketball state tournament in 95 years on Thursday
falling 63-46 to Greeneville in the Class 3A quarterfinals
we're in history forever," Lee said after the game
Lee's name will certainly be in Munford history
"up there" with some of the best in Cougars history according to coach Kameron Foster
He single-handedly kept Munford (21-11) in the game
scoring every third-quarter point and bringing the game to within a point with 5:43 remaining before Greenville went on an 18-2 run
"I know today opened up the eyes of a lot of college coaches who saw the way he stepped up and led the team
that's all I can ask for and all I can ask from him
He led this team exactly where he told me he could get us."
Lee didn't shy away from the big moment, going head-to-head with Greeneville Mr. Basketball finalist Trey Thompson
Patrick was second for Munford with six points
Munford's state appearance was the culmination of a moment in the middle of the season
when the Cougars were 10-10 and decided that things were going to go differently
who averaged 24 points and nine rebounds this season
was right at the center of the 11-game winning streak that led the group to Murfreesboro
"(Lee) matured as the season went on and he got to a spot in the second part of the season where he just said
'I'm gonna do what it takes for my team to win,'" Foster said
The change started in practice and resulted in a season few outside of Munford's locker room expected
"All of our chemistry started clicking at the right moment," Patrick said
people said we were just athletes and we had a ton of seniors and that's why we made it that far
We came back this year and made it even further
that'll have little impact on Munford's future
They see exactly what it takes now," Foster said
"Their hard work that they turned on for two months straight got them here and I don't feel like it's gonna stop now
Those last two months to get here is what next year is gonna be to."

the legend of Munford senior JaDyn Lee grew about 10-fold.
his classmate Eli Patrick walked off the Munford Gymnasium court validated for his Cougar basketball career
The comeback story of senior center Courtnry ‘Big Red’ Chaffin had the perfect ending with Munford’s 65-63 victory over the Dyersburg Trojans in the Class 3A sectional
Years from now those in the packed gym will still be talking about the big shots from Brady Millican in the fourth quarter and how Dean “Dino” Millican nailed timely buckets early in the contest.
Munford became the first boys’ Tipton County basketball team to make it to state in 38 years
The only other two state appearances for Tipton County boys came in 1987 (Covington) and 1930 (Munford)
Munford reaching the Class 3A State Basketball next week in Murfreesboro was authored by Head Coach Kameron Foster
“It ain’t nothing but God and those dawgs I got in there,” Coach Foster declared after cutting down the nets with his team
“Those boys played and they knew we had to play for 32 minutes,” he continued
When I told you we had ball-players just look at Dino
Dino stepped up last year a little bit and looked at the big shots he made for us this year
The future of Munford Basketball Josiah Hawkins ran the offense and emerged as the point guard of the State bound Cougars
Hawkins and crew found their footing in the first period
the Cougars outscored the Trojans 24-8 in the second quarter behind an NBA-range three-pointer from Lee
Then Lee dropped a jumper to make the score 14-12.
After Dyersburg increased its lead to 16-12
Dean Millican drained a triple to cut the deficit to a single point
Seconds later Millican hit a jumper to give Munford the advantage for good at 17-16.
Like he has done many times in a Munford uniform
Patrick kept the rally going with a timely three-pointer
Lee added another deep-range bomb to make the score 23-16
Hawkins did his best Steve Nash impersonation with a dribble move to free up space for a runner in the lane
Hawkins scored 5 points down the stretch to send Munford into the locker room ahead 31-22.
The third quarter Munford dominated in two phases with Chaffin controlling the boards with rebounds and altering Trojan shots in the paint.
The Cougars also put the ball into the hands of Lee and let him dictate the offensive pace
Lee got into the lane for and-one opportunities and located teammates with accurate passes for buckets.
Munford surged ahead 49-33 entering the fourth quarter
the Cougars had to withstand the Dyersburg run.
The Trojans chipped away and got the deficit into single digits
Just as Dyersburg had hope Munford got timely shots from Lee and a crucial three-point play from Brady Millican.
By the time Dyersburg scored the final bucket of the game
it was too late and the scoreboard read Munford 65
“We’ve worked hard for this all year despite a bunch of doubters
Nobody thought we could make it to Sub-State again — two years in a row
Or we could get our first State appearance since 1930
We did and that’s what carried us all the way.”
Lee racked up several honors this past season including District 15-3A and Region 8-3A MVP awards
While playing for everybody he shares a locker room with
Lee said he had extra motivation this entire Cougar career
“My siblings look at me as a role model,” he said
so I feel like I have to do a great job of teaching him how to do things
I just want to be a role model for my little brother.”
The retired jersey of Adrian Nathaniel hangs over the court in Munford and stories about Keith Hardaway are still shared 30 years later
Now many say Lee is among them or has all surpassed Cougar legends.
“I’m just blessed and humbled to be among Munford greats,” Lee concluded.
Lee disappeared in a sea of people enjoying the history moment
“This ain’t just about the basketball team,” Foster concluded
I love making them and seeing them all happy

A man known in these parts for serving as the head boys’ basketball coach at Covington and Munford high schools received a big honor last week
who coached at Covington from 1995 to 2004 and Munford from 2007 to 2011
has been inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee Hall of Fame
“Not at all,” Halford said when asked if making the hall of fame was a goal of his when he started his career 30 years ago
“Coaching for me has always been about my players
and as husbands and fathers has been the greatest part of coaching
but knowing you played a small part in their lives is extremely rewarding.”
said there are many coaches in Tennessee who could be inducted and was “humbled” by the honor
“For the BCAT Hall of Fame committee to pick me for the Hall of Fame is the biggest individual honor I could ever imagine
There are so many deserving coaches that could have easily been picked instead of me.”
The 18th annual BCAT All-Star Game was held last week and Halford was on hand to watch two players very special to him: Christian Halford
Tim’s son and a standout at Chester County
who led Munford to the state tournament two weeks ago
Christian will play basketball next year at Freed-Hardeman University next fall
a school that holds a special place in Halford’s heard
and now Christian will be playing basketball there,” Halford said
“It was very exciting to watch him play in this year’s event.”
Christian Halford played at Covington during his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Chester County for his final two years of high school
He averaged 16.4 points per game last year for Chester County
shot 51.4 percent from 3-point range and was named all-district and all-region
Lee was one of five players nominated for the Class 3A player of the year by BCAT and played well in the all-star game
but being a finalist is a really big honor and shows Tipton County/ MHS is holding its own state wide,” Tim Halford said
“Munford going to state shows just how strong basketball is in Munford and in the county as well.”
BCAT is comprised of high school and middle school coaches
There are around 1,000 members of the nonprofit organization designed to be a voice for Tennessee basketball coaches
The organization offers at least five scholarships to players each year and holds a yearly clinic in Nashville where college and pro coaches speak

It’s been a couple of weeks since the Munford High School basketball team made history by competing in the Class 3A state tournament in Murfreesboro
It had been 39 years since any Tipton County boys’ basketball team had qualified for the state tournament and 95 years since Munford made it to state
The Cougars fell to Greeneville 63-46 on March 20 in the state quarterfinals
but there’s no doubt the season was a rousing success
who is in his second season as Munford’s head coach
has had some time to reflect on the team’s accomplishment and he knows it was something special
“I look at everything as a blessing,” Foster said
a lot of coaches can’t say they did that in their whole career.”
Munford came within a win of making state last season and lost some significant talent from that squad
The Cougars went through a seven-game losing streak this season and nobody outside of the Munford program thought a state tournament berth was in the cards
but anybody who watched Munford play this past season knows senor JaDyn Lee was the primary reason for the Cougars’ success
He averaged 25 points per game and scored 30 vs
he played power forward much of the season and got the Cougars on track after the midseason losing streak
“He did what we needed to win,” Foster said
Munford was in position to beat Greeneville
trailing by just five through three quarters and by one early in the fourth after six points from Lee
but an 18-2 Greeneville run ended the game. A couple of stat lines were the difference: Munford was just 3 of 12 from the free throw line and Greeneville made 11 of 21 3-pointers compared to Munford’s 3-of-11 3-point shooting
Foster understands what his team accomplished
“God put me in this position for a reason for what I could do for these kids … Next year the goal is the same: Make it state and win it

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce originally ruled Adams, Crosby and Munford out during his Friday media availability, but the team's injury report listed Crosby and Munford as doubtful late Friday afternoon
though no information was available related to their respective status upgrades
Adams sustained a hamstring injury in practice Thursday, and Crosby has been dealing with a left high ankle sprain sustained on the second-to-last play of the Raiders' Week 2 win at the Baltimore Ravens
Munford is dealing with knee and ankle ailments
nobody needs to be Davante Adams," Pierce said
I just need the best version of Jakobi Meyers
but we really feel [positive] giving these guys the last 12 hours and now today
Adams has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown through three games. He last sat out a game in 2021, with the Green Bay Packers
"But there's a lot of talented individuals who will probably get more opportunities this week," said Meyers
who has 14 catches for 152 yards and a TD catch
"So all I want to do is just be a big brother or something
as long as we go out there and do what we're supposed to do
leads all NFL tight ends with 18 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown and figures to be even more involved
"We're obviously going to miss them a lot this weekend and other people are going to have to step up," Bowers said
we're just going to have to do what we have to do to win
is in danger of sitting out the first game of his career
He was noncommittal Thursday when asked if he thought his injury could sideline him
"I'm not worried about that right now," said Crosby
who was hampered against Carolina last week
when he did not have a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hit in the same game for the first time since Week 2 of the 2023 season
last out -- doing everything I can to get healthy
and when you're not able to do certain things
But I did everything I can to try to produce and I feel like I did some things
I have a damn Timberland-boot-size wrapping on my leg
The Raiders lost their other starting defensive end, Malcolm Koonce
to a season-ending knee injury in practice two days before the season opener
"Don't worry about being Maxx Crosby," Pierce said he told Wilson
Don't try to be that guy to be the hero of the game
And I think if we do that enough across the board
