The Packers’ president weighs in on a tremendous event
Somehow, it has already been nine days since the 2025 NFL Draft concluded. The event was truly one to remember for Green Bay Packers fans in attendance
and we at Acme Packing Company will have a couple of draft diaries coming in the next few days to go over our experiences over that fantastic weekend
Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy deserves more credit for bringing the draft to Green Bay than anyone else
and it’s only fitting that he get a chance to give his perspective on the event
in which he thanked the Packers’ fantastic fan base for the support and for showing up to make the weekend a truly special event
as practices got underway over the weekend with rookie minicamp
so it’s right back to work for the coaching staff
Let’s look back at a few notes from rookie camp as we start looking ahead to more on-field work coming up in a few weeks

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers manager Pat Murphy thinks something is missing from his team's usual identity as Milwaukee staggers through the first quarter of the season
"It seems like we've misplaced our edge a little bit," Murphy said after a 6-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday that dropped the Brewers two games below .500
Milwaukee went 21 innings without scoring before breaking through in the third Saturday
The back-to-back home losses to Chicago have dropped the Brewers five games behind the first-place Cubs in the NL Central standings
"They're tremendous," Murphy said of the Cubs
"Look at what they did against some of the best teams in the league and how they manhandled us both games
The slow start follows a 2024 season in which Milwaukee took over first place for good by the end of April to win its second straight division title
That Brewers team prided itself on rarely getting blown out
as most of its losses went down to the wire
Milwaukee already has lost seven games this season by at least five runs
The Brewers are 0-12 when their opponent scores first
making them the only major league club without a win in such situations
And the past two nights have shown how far the Brewers are from the Cubs
at least at this early stage of the season
Injuries to the pitching staff have caused many of Milwaukee's issues
The Brewers knew they would be opening the season without two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff and Robert Gasser, but Aaron Civale, Aaron Ashby, DL Hall and Nestor Cortes also are on the injured list. Tobias Myers
who went 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA as a rookie last year
Woodruff is expected to return after making a couple more rehabilitation appearances in the minors
All those injuries to starters have taxed Milwaukee's relievers. The Brewers entered Saturday with a 5.14 bullpen ERA that ranked 28th in the majors, ahead of only the Los Angeles Angels and Washington
Milwaukee had a 3.11 bullpen ERA that ranked second in the majors behind Cleveland
Milwaukee remains confident it will come around
"Luckily, this is early still," first baseman Rhys Hoskins said
"I don't want to just fall into that because at some point it's not early
But we have a lot of baseball to be played
and I think because of the talent in this room
there's no reason why we won't find ourselves where we want to be come the end of summer."
Murphy remains confident as well and says he still has high hopes for this team
He said teams do lose their edge at some point in every season and noted that even happened late last year during the Brewers' run to a division title
I'm just a little shocked that we've misplaced that edge a little bit."

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy and Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell exchange lineup before a baseball game Monday
MILWAUKEE — Cubs manager Craig Counsell and Brewers manager Pat Murphy don’t talk to each other as much as they used to when they shared a dugout as skipper and bench coach in Milwaukee
“I don’t sit next to him for multiple hours in a day,” Counsell quipped before the game between their teams
Their decadeslong friendship — they’ve known each other since Murphy coached Counsell in college at Notre Dame — is in a new stage
“It’s changed in that we’re competitors instead of teammates,” Counsell said
It’s stayed the same in that when we’re off game time
The series between the Cubs and Brewers at American Family Field this weekend will be the first three games of 13 between the National League Central foes
And it’s the second year that Counsell and Murphy are division rivals
They met at home plate to exchange lineup cards before the game Friday to kick off the series — after Brewers fans welcomed Counsell with a cascade of boos
Murphy won the battle for the division handily last season
The Brewers put 10 games between themselves and second place
which was shared by the Cubs and Cardinals
The Cubs entered this series atop the division with a 19-13 record
“I’m happy for his success; that’s first and foremost,” Counsell said
“You’re happy when your friend has tremendous success
and his wins don’t always bode well for me or us
The Brewers changed their pitching plan — a move Counsell said he was made aware of the morning before the night game
Instead of having right-hander Quinn Priester start as originally planned
they had left-hander Tyler Alexander face the top of the order as the opener
“I think they see it as the best way to navigate 27 outs,” Counsell said
Alexander allowed three singles — to Ian Happ
Kyle Tucker and Carson Kelly — and handed the ball to Priester with two outs in the first inning
Alexander was charged with a second run when Nico Hoerner drove in an inherited runner
Counsell isn’t the only one with ties to the Brewers
Colin Rea and Drew Pomeranz pitched for Milwaukee
Counsell hired Quintin Berry away from the Brewers to serve as the Cubs’ third-base coach
“Quintin’s passionate about baserunning,” Counsell said
“And [along with first-base coach] Jose Javier
our two base coaches have done a really nice job
He’s passionate about baserunning; he [has a strong belief] about things to do as baserunners
And we have a team that’s really interested in being good at it
So it’s been a great match from that perspective
And we’ve really focused on some details of it and trying to be great at the small things because it fits our group
The Cubs entered Friday leading the majors with 44 stolen bases and were tied with the Tigers for the best stolen-base percentage (88%)

director of the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation and associate professor of English at Hendrix College in Conway
is set to retire at the end of May following a more than 30-year career at the college
chair of the English department and director of the creative writing program has been named interim director
“I could not feel better about passing the reins of the Hendrix-Murphy directorship to Ty Jaeger,” Coulter said
“Ty has long been instrumental in Murphy programming and knows it inside out
He is trusted and well-liked and will be able to nourish the faculty buy-in for Murphy projects that’s so crucial to our success
it’s been my honor not just to work with Ty but to have him as a friend.”
Coulter served on the founding committee for the Hendrix College Creative Writing program
and served on the search committee that hired Jaeger as Hendrix-Murphy Writer-in-Residence
Jaeger later moved to the permanent faculty
President [Karen] Petersen and Provost [Teresa] Garrett trust me with the important work of guiding the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs,” Jaeger said
“and I’m indebted to Hope Coulter’s modeling of leadership in her role as director.”
The Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language were founded in 1978 with a mission to enhance and enrich the study of literature and language at Hendrix
Coulter became the interim director of the foundation in 2013 and was later appointed the third director in the foundation’s history

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There is no doubt that new Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden will be charged with finding a way to improve the pass rush from last season
and a key way that might happen is for Joseph Ossai to build on his strong finish from last season and for 2023 first-round pick Myles Murphy to take a huge step forward
The Bengals tied for 25th in sacks last season with 36
and 17.5 of those came from defensive end Trey Hendrickson
The entire rest of the defensive line combined for 17.0 sacks
The 5.0 by Ossai came over the final seven games of the season
including at least 0.5 sacks in six of those games
It may signify that things finally started to click for Ossai after battling injuries and getting inconsistent playing time
recording a scant 4.5 sacks in his first 40 career games
Ossai likened his finish in 2024 to a basketball player who finally sees a shot go in the basket and then gets on a roll
"A little bit of it was just confidence in myself and confidence in my teammates and being able to understand certain scenarios in the games we were playing (in terms of stunts and twists)," said Ossai
who was taken in the third round of the 2021 Draft and missed his entire rookie season due to a meniscus injury in his left knee
"Knowing what to do in those situations and just executing
but I wasn't coming with the production
When I got the first one I was able to keep going from there."
Ossai was eligible for free agency this offseason
but chose to re-sign with the Bengals on a one-year
"It made the most sense," said Ossai
I'd rather do it here with a team that has so much potential and a team that has a lot of upside
I'm focusing on being in the best shape I can be to hit the ground running."
That's exactly what Murphy is doing as part of his multi-phase process to attack this offseason differently than did coming out of college and after his first NFL season
Something certainly had to change as Murphy didn't record a single sack last season despite playing on 40 percent of the defensive snaps and recording 3.0 sacks as a rookie in 28 percent of the defensive snaps
He changed his diet that has helped him go from 18 percent body fat and a playing weight of 280 pounds to 13 percent body fat and a current weight of 273
"It's helped a whole lot," said Murphy
I feel like I'm in a great position right now
I went into this offseason with a plan of knowing what I wanted to do Monday through Saturday
I think it's working right now and coming to fruition
Now it's just really about sticking to it."
While former defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has been blamed in some corners for Murphy's sporadic playing time hindering his development his first two seasons
Murphy didn't put the blame on Anarumo
"Going into the offseason I had a plan and (the diet) is Step 1
This is something I could have done better these past two years
Now I'm going into Phase 2 - OTAs - and see what I can do differently than the last two years that can put me in a better position."
One of the things Murphy hopes unlocks his potential is new defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery
"He has a great resume at all the spots he's coached at," said Murphy
"Everywhere he goes there is production
Excited what he can do with me and all the D linemen
It's now about refining my game all around
Be in the office with Coach Montgomery and just talking with him about what he sees
I watch my tape all the time and write things down about what I can improve on
so I really want to get in the room with him and see from a coach's perspective with his experience what he sees and wants me to do."
While the Bengals can certainly hope that Ossai's end of season production rolls over into this season and Murphy will finally unlock his potential
they also added defensive end Shemar Stewart in the first round of the draft
In addition to his physical traits (he had the fifth-highest athleticism score among defensive ends at the NFL Scouting Combine) as an edge rusher
which is where he may move on obvious passing situations if Ossai and/or Murphy are having success at end
There is also the possibility of Ossai also moving inside on passing downs
which is something he has done in the past
"I would recommend every D lineman plays all over the line," said Ossai
"When you get inside and you don't get a one-on-one
You understand collapsing the pocket does help those guys step up and get to the quarterback
It makes you appreciate the game a lot more
It makes you appreciate your teammates next to you
Personally I think it makes you be a better player
I think a lot of the guys in that room are able to rush all over the line
I think it's going to be exciting when it comes time to making that third down package to mix and match and see who fits where and where certain guys are better to create a really a good rush package
Tim Herrington and twins Carter and Ethan Murphy all share something in common on the Southeast baseball team
Herrington committed to NCAA Division II University of Illinois Springfield in April
while the Murphys will pitch at NJCAA Division II East Central College in Missouri
A new age: What to know about the $13.3 million improvements at Southeast’s Spartan Field
Baseball preview: Here are 32 area baseball players to watch in the 2025 high school season
They prove that athletes at Southeast can excel in other sports besides basketball
“We’ve got quality players over here every year,” said Southeast coach Tim Rhodes
previously an assistant under Brad Leininger
“It’s just a tough conference (in the Central State Eight) and we get overlooked a lot
But we do have college players over here all the time.”
Herrington has championed baseball from the beginning
That passion for the game only swelled further under coach Brady Burk on the Lincoln Magnet co-op baseball team
where he played with former high school standouts Jack Swaney
“He taught me a lot and showed me a lot of baseball,” said Herrington of Burk
“I felt like he showed me how to play at a high level
I think that’s what kind of sparked me to keep wanting to play
Team 186: Why the Springfield HS softball co-op with Lanphier and Southeast offers a bright future
‘Glory over pain’: How this pitcher embodies toughness for Auburn/Lutheran softball
Herrington reached the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 3A state finals in seventh grade before the COVID-19 pandemic uprooted the following season
'I’ve got to keep on going,'” Herrington said
“I came to Southeast and same mindset here
“I feel like if you start playing more at a younger age
we’d get way more Black people to continue playing,” Herrington reflected
they know how to shoot a basketball and they know how to throw a football
“I feel like if you got more young Black people to play at a young age
they’ll carry it out and carry it to every single sport they also play.”
Herrington immediately stood out to Rhodes upon arrival
“From the day he stepped foot on our field as a freshman
I think he played maybe two games in JV and then we were like
'He’s got to be up here,'” Rhodes recalled
“He hit a home run in a big game against Lanphier when we were tied
‘This kid is going to be special,’ and he’s done everything that’s been asked of him and then some and he just continues to get better.”
Herrington made the most out of the opportunity
He increased his explosiveness in the weight room and pried as much as he could from coaches after every practice
I’d try to practice as long as possible,” Herrington said
On the mend: How this Chatham Glenwood track star, Illini recruit is forging ahead after knee surgery
Track and field preview: Here are the top 30-plus track and field athletes around Springfield this outdoor season
Herrington not only brings a burst of speed
but Rhodes also raved about his on-base percentage
Herrington took three walks and was hit by a pitch for an RBI
Herrington carried a .480 batting average and .658 on-base percentage with 24 hits and 24 walks through 20 games
try to get to every ball that I can,” Herrington said
“I still got to lift a little bit more and get stronger so I can make some of those farther throws
but I think speed can carry you a long way
It’s hardly any mystery why Carter and Ethan Murphy started out playing soccer
is the Southeast boys and girls soccer coach
but he also believes in the benefits of being a multi-sport athlete
The twins eventually gravitated more toward baseball
“I watch (baseball) all day and I just love putting in the extra work for it
so it’s something that I want to do in my future,” Carter said
the other is catching — at least during the school season
they continue to play on the same travel team
they visited the Maximized Pitching Lab in Wood River together as well
That doesn’t include their time together in soccer
Ethan raked in all-sectional honors as a goalkeeper by the Illinois High School Soccer Association this past fall
while Carter was honorable mention as a midfielder
“It helps not only having somebody else motivate you but also just being there to help you out,” Ethan said
That extends to their less experienced teammates
“The best way to handle that is if you see something
don’t be afraid to help them out,” Ethan said
“Just letting them make mistake after mistake ..
that’s just not being a very good teammate if you can help and give them the right answer.”
Ethan said if more players devote more time individually toward training
then the program could reach another notch
Rhodes also coaches the Jefferson and Washington middle school baseball co-op
He hopes that can foster a flourishing baseball culture at Southeast
He ultimately echoed much the same sentiment as Herrington — the earlier
“We were missing that feeder program for a long time,” Rhodes said
“I’m now entering my fifth year as a middle school coach
that’s when I think we’ll start to see a difference.”

and manager Pat Murphy had an interesting way of describing his Cubs’ counterparts
Here is what the Brewers’ skipper had to say on Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker after their latest series:
who sported a blue dye job in the early goings of the season
Known for his scintillating speed and stellar outfield defense
Crow-Armstrong is cashing in on himself with an outstanding effort at the plate
After reportedly rejecting a contract extension of up to $75 million
he has nearly matched his 2024 home run total (10) with nine so far
Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ (8)
and right fielder Kyle Tucker (30) celebrate after beating the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field
For all the talk of Tucker’s impending mega-deal this offseason
Crow-Armstrong will also strain Chicago’s payroll
Tucker and his huge feet are in the mix for the National League MVP
The first-year Cub has been unstoppable as a hitter
Tucker also has nine home runs (tied for the team lead) and 30 RBIs (team-leading)
an old-school manager with a penchant for speaking his mind
may have been poking fun at Crow-Armstrong’s bold look
but this feels more like performance praise than anything

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy was left in awe after facing the Chicago Cubs' young core
including budding star outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong
"Their young guys are all at the peak of their game," Murphy said postgame Sunday after a Brewers' 4-0 victory prevented a weekend sweep, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com
"The blue-haired kid is kind of a freak right now with the way that he's playing
"The new kid with the huge feet - that kid
I just notice him when he's digging in the box
Then (Ian) Happ has always been great against us
(Dansby) Swanson is as good a defensive shortstop as there is in the league
It's a great ballclub through and through."
Crow-Armstrong has gone deep nine times with 26 RBIs
and an .867 OPS over 35 games for the NL Central-leading Cubs
The 23-year-old has accumulated the third-most fWAR (2.1) in the majors this season thanks to his strong offensive and defensive play
He ranks in the 100th percentile in outs above average
The acquisition of All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker - presumably the large-footed player described by Murphy - has also played a significant role in Chicago's MLB-best run differential (plus 62)
The team has scored the most runs (208) and swatted the third-most homers (52)
'He's a great competitor': Murphy backs Priester after rough startMay 3rd
MILWAUKEE -- Right-hander Quinn Priester had initially been the Brewers’ probable starter to open the weekend series against the Cubs
That’s not how it ultimately went down Friday night at American Family Field
Milwaukee announced left-hander Tyler Alexander as the starter (in the role of an opener)
as the team informed Chicago well in advance about the change
Manager Pat Murphy noted pregame that hitters at the top of the Cubs’ order are no slouches against lefties
but he still went with Alexander to open — which brought outcomes like left fielder Ian Happ (a switch-hitter) hitting right-handed in his first at-bat and right fielder Kyle Tucker starting with a left-on-left matchup
A big part of the thinking behind using the opener
was essentially to give the top of Chicago’s lineup one less look at Priester
It was a way to help protect the 24-year-old
But the result didn’t turn out the way Murphy hoped
Alexander exited with two outs in the first, after he’d already given up a run and left runners at the corners. Priester came in and let a second run score on an RBI single, and then an inning later, he gave up seven en route to a 10-0 Brewers loss
“A combination of making bad pitches with two strikes and walking guys,” Priester said of his second-inning issues
“I think we probably would've had a better result if we did one of those things -- made better pitches with two strikes
or limited those walks to force me to make pitches that I just straight up didn't end up making.”
Priester faced all nine batters (shortstop Dansby Swanson twice); all but one reached base
Most of the traffic came on singles (three) and walks (two)
but a grand slam from Cubs first baseman Michael Busch and a solo homer from center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong broke the game open
really poor second inning.” Nobody would argue against that
But Murphy found some positives in what Priester did the rest of his outing
He struck out four over his last three scoreless innings
giving up just two walks and retiring the last seven batters he faced
The second inning can’t just be pushed aside
“A little bit of good doesn't make up for the bad.” Murphy
felt it was positive to see him grind out a few more frames after that second
And he did it without needing to face the heart of the order a third time
“You can say Priester was awful if you want to
but there's some signs that you can see why we [traded for] him,” Murphy said
“There's some signs there that show the kid's got really good stuff
Milwaukee acquired Priester from Boston via trade April 7
That came the day after the Brewers placed left-hander Nestor Cortes on the injured list
leaving righty Freddy Peralta as the lone healthy arm expected to be in the rotation at the start of Spring Training
hasn’t found a high level of success so far in parts of three Major League seasons
His season ERA is 5.79 and his career ERA is 6.15 thanks to seven earned runs over 4 1/3 innings Friday
Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball.
The Brewers could possibly send him down, considering he does have Minor League options left. That would be a much easier call, though, if they had more rotation options available.
Talking about Priester before the game, Murphy was frank in saying, “He’s not a finished product. He's got a ways to go.” Whether getting there continues with Milwaukee or in the Minors, it seems Murphy still believes in Priester.
“You got to learn from your mistakes,” Murphy said. “You have to brush up on things that are getting you in trouble. If you're getting behind in the count a lot, or your secondary stuff is inconsistent, or if your third pitch needs a little more polish, or you need to learn to hold runners. These are all things he's in the middle of.
“He's going to be a great one, I think. I really do. I love the kid and I love the competitor. I think he's going to be really good.”
WHEELING — Triadelphia Middle School eighth grader Sadie Murphy enjoyed a birthday surprise Friday morning — sort of.
It wasn’t her birthday, but Belmont Savings Bank surprised her by announcing that her design will be used for the bank’s upcoming 140th birthday cards.
Bank representatives were at Triadelphia Middle on Friday morning to unveil the winning middle school artist design for Belmont Savings’ birthday card. The winning design among high school entries will be announced later.
“I was really surprised and really excited, too,” Murphy said. “It’s something I really enjoyed doing.”
Murphy’s design, created with colored pencils and shading pencils, depicts a huge blue and yellow birthday cake with balloons surrounding it and the Belmont Savings Bank logo adorning the top. Murphy said she worked through multiple options before she landed on the one that eventually won.
“It went through three, and the third one was my favorite,” she said.
Belmont Saving Bank President Todd Cover said the selection committee fielded 55 entries from 12 local middle schools. The group whittled the lineup to three finalists, then ultimately picked Murphy’s as the winner.
“It just encapsulated everything we wanted a birthday celebration to be,” Cover said. “It’s just a fun picture.”
Murphy’s art teacher at TMS, Cynthia Stahanczyk, said it has been a joy to watch Murphy grow as an artist while at Triadelphia.
“Sadie is such a wonderful student, both academically and artistically,” she said. “It’s been a pleasure to have her in class and watch her grow in her abilities. Along the way, I’ve just tried to foster her and nurture her abilities the best I can, and she puts so much time into her art. It’s just a winning combination.”

Even Brewers manager Pat Murphy has noticed PCA's rapid improvement
and it could mean trouble in the end for Milwaukee
"Their young guys are all at the peak of their game," Murphy said postgame Sunday
"The new kid with the huge feet - that kid
I just notice him when he's digging in the box
It's a great ballclub through and through."

Murphy is spot on, and I've neglected to mention the Cubs are managed by none other than former Brewers manager Craig Counsell. By now, all Brewers fans are familiar with that narrative
Counsell left Wrigley north for...actual Wrigley
signing the richest managerial contract in MLB history
The one hope the Brewers do have is that they've been through this sort of thing before. While the Cubs outrank Milwaukee in star power and payroll, the Brewers front office knows how to put the pieces together. For example, Chicago's rotation is severely lacking thanks to injuries to Justin Steele and perhaps Shota Imanaga (still waiting on that front)
The Brewers are just four games back after a win on Sunday and remain a significant threat in a crowded NL Central
With the right deadline additions and improvements from their own stars in the making like Jackson Chourio
the Brewers could find themselves in a familiar position come October – with the Central well within grasp

When we first started lobbying the NFL about holding the draft in Green Bay almost a decade ago
we knew that one of our strongest arguments was the tremendous support we receive from our fans
Six hundred thousand fans attended the draft over the three days
making it the second most attended draft ever
I estimate that over 90% of the crowd was Packers fans
It was the first time in NFL history that more fans attended the draft than lived in the host city
Our fans were everywhere during the draft week
soaking in all that the draft has to offer (the setting for the draft was a lot like Disney World
One of my favorite moments was when I was introducing our first-round pick
When I started by saying "for the first time since 2002," our fans are so knowledgeable that they knew right away that we were going to draft a wide receiver (and most likely knew that it was going to be Matthew Golden)
it was a special time for everyone attending the draft
and the local community and entire state will reap the benefits of this event for many years to come
I recently watched the NFL Draft live from Green Bay
Well done and thank you for representing our state and team so well
the Packers had not taken a receiver in the first round for 23 years prior to this draft
We were all very pleased with the draft – and it was a true team effort
I do not think we have intentionally decided not to draft wide receivers in the first round over the years
It was just a matter of how our board fell
It is worth noting that we have drafted many excellent receivers in the second round
You and the whole 2025 draft team deserve a big shout out for successfully hosting an estimated 600,000 football fans from around the globe
what was the biggest hurdle your team had to overcome to secure the draft for the Packers franchise
the city of Green Bay and the people of Wisconsin
What were your favorite moments from draft weekend
Do you think the NFL will award another draft to the Packers
Many thanks for all your achievements during your time as president
Our local organizing committee and so many Packers employees did an excellent job
and credit must also go to the City of Green Bay
it was a team effort – we all knew how much it meant to the local community
I think it was convincing the league that a small market like Green Bay could host an event as large as the NFL Draft
There were particular concerns regarding the relatively small number of hotel rooms
I thought it was pretty special when we drafted Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round
and it was great to see how excited he was to be here and be drafted by the Packers
I do think Green Bay will host another draft
Twenty cities have filed applications to host the draft
Thank you for your hard work for this team over the past few decades
The energy was there all night and your announcement alongside the commissioner was the highlight of the draft
does the team being located in Green Bay serve any logistical challenges for the team and associated groups
I know last season when we played in Brazil air travel was a big point of contention when playing the season opener in Sao Paulo
I also know that a lot of journalists that cover the Packers usually have to fly to a connecting airport whenever they travel to a Packers road game
The air travel market in the Green Bay-Appleton area is by far the smallest in the NFL and direct flights to most other markets are not offered
Does being in the smallest market by far affect the team in any unseen way
I love to hear from Packers fans in Illinois
but traveling to other parts of the country (and world) from here is challenging
Almost every destination is at least two flights
and the flight options have become more limited during my time living in Green Bay
It also hurts us that there is no train service to Green Bay (but we do have the National Railroad Museum here!?)
We would be much better off with one airport between Green Bay and Appleton
rather than having both airports compete with each other
I know people would gladly drive 15 more minutes to go to a centralized airport to have many more flight options
the airports in Green Bay and Appleton should coordinate with each other
I recently had a league meeting in Atlanta at 2 p.m
The direct flight to Atlanta was at 5:15 a.m
That would require me getting up at 3:45 a.m
so I checked Appleton's flights to Atlanta – the only morning flight was at 5:20 a.m
These travelling issues do not really affect our team travel since we fly charter
it does present issues as it does for everyone living in Northeast Wisconsin
Thanks for being a great leader of the Pack and have a great retirement
My question is: Why is illegal hands to the face and face mask grasping a penalty no matter the player
but "stiff arm" by a ball carrier is not a penalty
The stiff arm is impeding the defender and could cause injury
Because the league likes high-scoring games and always favors the offense
it only seems that way to us old defensive players
it is a penalty if a runner stiff arms a tackler and grabs the face mask
Let me start by thanking you for a fantastic career with our beloved Packers
After your football career did you ever think you would go on to be the CEO for as many years as you've been
are you related to the former Washington punter of the same name
I never thought I would go on to be president of an NFL team (let alone for 17 years)
I was very involved with the NFLPA (as the Washington player rep
vice president of the union and later as an employee) and was viewed as a radical
I was involved in two strikes – one as a player and one as an NFLPA employee
make a connection during that time period that helped me later
Paul Tagliabue was an attorney for the league and a Washington season ticketholder
he contacted me (I was AD at Colgate at the time) and asked me to serve on a committee he established on player relations
I know that he was helpful in my being offered the job
I learned a valuable lesson – don't burn bridges
This was also one of my father's (Big Murph) "pearls of wisdom."

'Work to do': .500 not good enough for Murphy's injury-battling BrewersMay 1st
CHICAGO -- Pat Murphy isn’t one to look too deeply at the standings
The Brewers’ skipper knows where his team stands
but the thing he cares most about is Milwaukee playing themselves into a better spot
“The only standings that matter to me is we're .500
and if you're going to be a team that plays beyond the end of the season
you can't be .500,” Murphy said before Wednesday’s game
which his club entered with a 15-15 record
Murphy’s words still rang true roughly 24 hours later. Following Wednesday’s victory to get a game above .500, the Brewers (16-16) fell back to even with an 8-0 loss to the White Sox on Thursday at Rate Field
Things looked promising for Milwaukee from the start
right fielder Sal Frelick and left fielder Jake Bauers each drew walks in the top of the first off Chicago starter Sean Burke
That brought first baseman Rhys Hoskins to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded
Burke hung an 0-2 curveball over the heart of the plate
The ball would’ve left 13 of 30 Major League ballparks
but White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr
leaped up and gloved it before it could go over the wall
“It turns out to be a game-changer when it happens like that,” Murphy said
The Brewers hardly threatened offensively after that
While Chicago took the lead in the bottom frame and added seven runs in the sixth and seventh
Milwaukee got just four other runners on base (two on hits
That wasted another solid start from right-hander Chad Patrick
who threw a career-high 102 pitches over 5 2/3 innings
allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four
Now seven appearances (six starts) into his Major League career
The line won't look as good as he pitched
It hasn’t been an easy first month-plus for Milwaukee to get through
The Brewers rebounded from an 0-4 start to the season with a 7-1 stretch
which put them a season-high two games above .500 on April 9
and they’ve done it while dealing with a number of injuries
That’s not to mention other injuries, like having two center-field options in Garrett Mitchell (left oblique strain) and Blake Perkins (right shin fracture) on the IL
but Milwaukee has managed to work through some issues and have at least stayed close to .500 over the past month

the National League Central-leading Cubs come to town for a three-game set starting Friday night
It will be a test to see how the squads stack up -- and the adversity the Brewers have faced likely won’t get them any sympathy from their opponents
“It's a testament to this team that they stood up and won some games
“There's been a lot of guys get chances that wouldn't have gotten chances that all of a sudden are stepping up and making themselves noticed

Brewers hold closed-door meeting after ugly series loss in SFApril 25th
SAN FRANCISCO -- Brewers manager Pat Murphy called this four-game series at Oracle Park the poorest defensive showing he’s seen in his 10 years with the club. So, in the wake of Thursday’s wrenching, 6-5 loss at Oracle Park
the second time in the first 26 games of this season
that the Brewers have collectively given a game away
he decided it was a good time to have a group chat
He kept the clubhouse doors closed after the game for 30 minutes to unpack what unfolded over the past four days and to reinforce what kind of unit the scrappy
stingy-pitching Brewers want to be -- will need to be -- over the next five months to earn another berth in the postseason
Maybe I need to give more love and we need to have more discipline
This team can’t be an elite team unless we play a little bit ‘uncommon.’ Unless we have an edge like you saw a lot of last year -- not all of last year
but you saw it a lot -- we can’t compete the way we want to compete unless we have that.”
They did not have that edge this week while dropping three of four games against the Giants
and they certainly did not have it on Thursday
when baserunning errors stymied scoring chances early
and late defensive mistakes or missed opportunities helped the Giants take the lead in the eighth inning of a Brewers loss that dropped them back to .500 at 13-13
Here are some of the things Murphy didn’t like:
• Brewers starter Tobias Myers walked four batters in his four innings while making his first start off the injured list
• The Brewers scored one run in the first inning but could have had more. Sal Frelick ran into a double play on the basepaths when he tried for a stolen base but lost Christian Yelich’s sacrifice fly to center field
• Later in that same inning with runners at the corners, Joey Ortiz produced a rally-killing final out when he pushed a bunt to first base instead of third
• In the eighth, after Tyler Alexander allowed a leadoff walk and a Wilmer Flores’ single to put runners at the corners, the Brewers briefly froze the tying runner at third on a bouncer to third baseman Vinny Capra
who did a good job of checking the lead runner
Capra might have gone to second base for the one out on the play
he went to first and the go-ahead runner moved into scoring position
• Then, the Brewers appeared well-positioned to cut down that tying runner at home plate when Mike Yastrzemski hit a soft bouncer to second base with the infield pulled in. In hindsight, Brice Turang said he could have charged through the bouncing ball and thrown home
• The Giants then took the lead when Yelich misplayed Willy Adames’ line-drive sacrifice fly
That run probably would have scored even if Yelich had made a clean catch
but it was an ugly end to an ugly week for the Brewers
you know you made a mistake and you need to be better,” Yelich said
“But just to address it and make sure it’s not something that keeps spiraling is a good thing.”
“We obviously didn’t play well these four days
The purpose of the postgame discussion was to find that path
it was meant to be awareness and a talk about responsibilities,” Murphy said
“But you don’t join the Brewers and just show up and say
we don’t have a power-hitting third baseman.’ When you join the Brewers
you join knowing that if we’re going to win
you’re going to have to play a certain way
We just have to get everybody to understand that.”

Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Jim
We are heartbroken to hear of Jim’s passing
We have many fond memories of Jim from our St
Jim was my colleague and great friend when we both served in the Missouri Senate
Even though we were different political parties my Senate service was enriched by being able to serve with Jim
He left and later ran for sheriff in the city
Since I was a lawyer I was fortunate to be able to work with him in his capacity as sheriff
Jim brightened every day and was such a good man
Glad Jim got to Heaven in time to celebrate St

He was such a great person and did soo much for St Louis
from Jamie and Joe and The entire Sharamitaro Family
himself and his wife had been my patients for many years at STL Vision and every time they came in I had to have them
He was the nicest man and always asked about my family and my husband who is a SLMPD detective and I absolutely adored him and his wife
David and I were so sad to hear of Jim’s passing
David worked with Jim during the transition of the old City Jail and the new Justice Center and several other meetings and Jim was always willing to help provide transportation services for the City Jail the “Workhouse”
happy and so proud of his wonderful family
