VW Sell More EVs, Yet Makes a Lot Less Money Ram Reveals Revamped, Stylish Sub-$50K 1500 Express Home/NewsFord Mustang GTD’s Nürburgring Lap Time Is StunningThe new record at just over 6:52 puts the Mustang in crazy fast company You might have missed it, but back in December, Ford claimed its radical new Mustang GTD lapped the Nürburgring quicker than any other car from an American brand. Ripping through the 12.9-mile track in just 6:57.685 meant the Mustang GTD beat out cars like the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS, Ferrari 296 GTB We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD We’ll be back.” The company followed through and Farley’s crown jewel lapped the ‘Ring around five seconds faster than it did last time But it only claims one more meaningful notch in its belt The Stang completed its lap quicker than the first 992.1 GT3 RS Porsche ran a car that notably ran the same exact tires as Ford did A second run — with a Weissach Package car and a bucket driver’s seat — was quicker than the GTD it shows that Ford really has what it takes to compete with Porsche — at least Shaving nearly six seconds off a lap time is no easy feat the Nürburgring is also famously tough for its unpredictable weather; race days have seen sun Ford’s August 2024 run was damp and a bit warmer than anticipated; not the case with the car’s more recent pass Adjustments were made to the car’s drag reduction system and more in order to make it the best tool for the job factory driver Dirk Müller sat in the driver’s seat So, the Mustang GTD is five seconds quicker around a race track most Americans haven’t heard of and even fewer could find on a map. To wit, I’ve had coworkers in my former life at a BMW dealership — an “enthusiast” — who thought the track was in Nuremberg The Green Hell is certainly a good stress test for a car and bad sports cars will not post good times relative to their peers But we won’t dissect the virtues of bench racing here An interesting and important reminder: there is no governing body surrounding “Nürburgring lap times.” Automakers or third parties simply show up and clock their car. All records are “unofficial,” because, well, there are no officials. With no governing body, it’s perhaps no surprise that plenty of OEMs toe the line. Nissan cracked the production car record in 2013 with the GT-R only for engineers to later admit the car was heavily modified A Civic Type-R donned race tires you can’t get from the factory Almost all records see cars with roll bars and harnesses increasing rigidity and at least slightly trimming lap times No matter how you feel about Nürburgring lap times or their relevance you’ve got to admit: that’s one fast Mustang Ford seem to be making sure that the Mustang GTD will be worth every red cent of its $300,000 or more price tag — including coming standard with top bragging rights It’s also a good indicator of how truly dedicated Ford CEO Farley is to the company’s supercar program LLC and respective content providers on this website Other product and company names shown may be trademarks of their respective owners LLC and respective content providers to this website may receive compensation for some links to products and services on this website and New York Auto Shows throughout 1979 as a preview of what was possible for the then-new Fox Body Mustang the Daytona concept doesn't look much like the production car with which it shares a platform red-ish paint wraps around custom bodywork meant to give the concept a smoother look than its factory Fox Body sibling The name "Daytona" was likely inspired by the tinted light coverings front and rear—which even has a very subtle Mustang logo etched into the center of the grille The concept employs other unique design cues a t-top roof—which actually didn't make it into the production Mustang until 1981 the Daytona concept has the same 5.0-liter V-8 and four-speed manual as the factory Fox Body but it’s unclear if any modifications were actually made to the powertrain There were subtle tweaks to the suspension The interior is all-tan-everything with leather bucket seats and a Daytona logo stamped onto the passenger dash The concept in question spent 20 years at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn following its 1979 tour of the auto show circuit and eventually fully restored for the concours circuit where it won an Award of Distinction at the 2024 Cincinnati Concours d’Elegance the Mustang Daytona concept is headed up for auction at the Mecum Indy 2025 sale Early estimates put it anywhere in the $80,000 to $100,000 mark A small price to pay for a rare piece of Mustang history 2026 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Everything We Know Miata and Mustang Are Among the Last Affordable Convertibles 2026 Jeep Compass Unveiled: Hybrid or EV With Up to 375 HP The Ford Mustang GTD Is Back at the Nürburgring Lotus Emira With Yellow Exhaust Tips Pays Tribute to an F1 GOAT Sometimes, widebody kits work brilliantly on a performance car, giving it a much more aggressive look. However, occasionally adding flared arches and revamped front and rear fascias goes a little too far, and that’s what we think has happened with this Mustang GT if you’re the type of person who really wants to stand out from the pack This crazy S550 has been fitted with a widebody kit from Clinched, a company based out of North Carolina. Made from ABS plastic, it looks as if it took some cues from the work of Liberty Walk and includes crazy front and rear flared fenders that appear to be directly riveted or screwed into the original quarter panels Each arch looks at least four inches wider than the original transforming the stance of the car and making it look much more aggressive The Clinched kit also includes a much more pronounced front splitter that appears to be affixed to the original bumper We’d be extremely paranoid about scuffing it if we were driving around in this Mustang but there’s certainly no mistaking this Ford from any other Read: You Don’t Need $325K For A Mustang That Looks Like A GTD The kit also adds new side skirts, while the car has also been slammed on a new suspension and sits on a set of custom-made ESR wheels with a white finish. Then there’s the wrap that’s just as over-the-top as the bodykit. View this post on Instagram A post shared by CarLifestyle (@carlifestyle) The wrap has been brought to life by Inozetek and the color is known as Pearl Urban Bamboo. It has a light greenish tint that leans toward turquoise, but when the sunlight hits it just right, it reveals a golden gleam that makes you wonder if they dipped the car in a bottle of highlighter. Divisive Looks Or Not, This ‘Stang Is Its Owner’s Dream Love it or hate it, this thing is undeniably unique. The owner proudly calls it his dream Mustang, and frankly, that’s what really matters here. Whether it’s your style or not, Clinched’s creation makes one thing clear: it’s built to stand out, and that’s exactly what it does. Engineers made the GTD over five seconds faster but reading about it isn’t quite the same as seeing it Ford released a video that lets us watch (and hear!) the GTD go around the Green Hell in well under seven minutes One of the best parts about cars getting faster on the ‘Ring is that you can watch a full lap during a quick break; You’d almost need to take an afternoon off if we were talking about The 6:57-minute long video shows two angles: There’s a forward-facing camera and one aimed at pilot Dirk Müller and a map of the track to show the Mustang’s exact location but watching the speedometer gives us a great idea of what to expect: The 815-horsepower coupe takes less than 10 seconds to effortlessly accelerate from 200 to 250 kph (124 to 155 mph) and it briefly crosses the 300-kph (186-mph) mark on the straight The speed that the GTD carries around some of the track’s tighter corners is jaw-dropping The video showing the full, 6:52:072 lap is embedded above. Sit back, turn up the sound, and enjoy. You can compare it to the old record (6:57:685) by watching the video that Ford published in December 2024 Production of the Ford Mustang GTD is scheduled to start in the spring of 2025, so the first deliveries are presumably right around the corner. It would take another 37 years for the nameplate to return, and its revival cemented the OG Shelby as a legend. Buyers flocked en masse to Ford for the reborn 2007 Shelby GT500 assuming it would be another short production run but it quickly became the flagship Mustang for over a decade—give or take a couple of model years The answer, apparently, is yes. After two years of radio silence, a leaked memo from February 2025 referenced the Shelby’s return Here’s what we know so far about the next great Pony Car The only things certain in life are death and taxes—and racing stripes on a Shelby Mustang we think Ford will move away from the gaping-mouth design of the previous generation and build on the design cues from the Dark Horse Our exclusive rendering showcases the Shelby’s new face with a larger take of the Dark Horse’s grille where prominent vents feed more air to the engine bay and brakes meeting the edges of the headlight and feeding into the Shelby’s wider stance the new GT500 should be properly flared out both front and rear GT500 test mules with sketchy Dark Horse body panels and camouflaged backsides have been spotted near Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn The camo disguises extra width at the rear and misaligned fenders at the front also suggest a slightly wider track And a new Shelby wouldn’t be complete with a big ol’ vented hood and a rear spoiler We don’t know if a Carbon Fiber Track Package will be offered this time around. It’s possible Ford could tone down the track offerings since the GTD now exists as the ultimate corner-carving Mustang But a big carbon fiber spoiler is virtually guaranteed Interestingly, Ford does have a 1,000-hp engine already in its wheelhouse. The 7.3-liter supercharged Megazilla 2.0 crate engine was announced in January 2025 It’s unknown if this engine meets emission requirements for production use but if Ford wanted to give this GT500 a proper send-off you could do worse than dumping a massive pushrod V-8 between the fenders but a slightly destroked version of this engine would displace 7.0 liters The original GT500 from 1967 through 1970 came with—you guessed it—a 428 cubic-inch V-8 Ford generally hasn’t done much with GT500 suspension tuning in the past which swapped in MagneRide magnetorheological dampers and a host of other upgrades Bigger brakes will certainly be part of the new GT500 but the GTD’s existence adds some uncertainty Will Ford make a concerted effort to upgrade the GT500’s handling chops We think a comfortable middle ground is likely here Test mules have already been spotted with old GT500 wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires It’s just a question of how close Ford wants to get to the $300,000-plus GTD’s capabilities in a cheaper (but still expensive) GT500 It’s reasonable to believe the new Shelby GT500 with its Legend engine will start at least in the high $80,000 range But we wouldn’t be surprised if Ford just bumps it to $100,000 The leaked memo mentioned adding more production shifts later in 2025 for the 2026 Shelby GT500 so we could see this car debut before the end of this year 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mustang Energy Corp FRA:92T) (the “Company” or “Mustang”) is pleased to provide an update on its ongoing geophysical reprocessing reinterpretation and targeting work in collaboration with leading geophysical consultants Resource Potentials Ltd This initiative reflects Mustang’s commitment to advancing exploration across its Athabasca Basin uranium projects through cost-effective Following a detailed historical data compilation ResPot has reprocessed and interpreted a suite of high-resolution airborne magnetic and electromagnetic (“EM”) datasets over Mustang’s properties These datasets were sourced from open-file surveys by provincial and federal agencies and integrated with digital elevation models Magnetic datasets were utilized to infer the depth and architecture of the Athabasca Basin unconformity—a critical control for high-grade uranium mineralization were processed to identify conductive anomalies potentially related to graphitic pelite units and clay alteration zones Ratios and products of radioelement concentrations (K U) were computed to enhance subtle radiometric anomalies despite their susceptibility to attenuation by surface cover The integrated interpretation has revealed multiple areas of interest coincident EM-magnetic-low anomalies characteristic of basement-hosted unconformity-related uranium deposits A key component of this work has involved the continuous interpretation of geophysical data to guide targeted mineral claim staking alongside the review of internal and public datasets as Mustang evaluates potential project acquisitions and joint venture opportunities ongoing interpretation is also underway on newly acquired airborne geophysical surveys These include a MobileMT survey recently completed over the Yellowstone Project and an Xcite™ TDEM survey over the Dutton Project Further analysis will also be conducted on the upcoming Xcite™ TDEM survey with radiometric data acquisition planned for the Spur Project in May These contemporary datasets are expected to complement the historical compilation work and enhance Mustang’s ability to prioritize drill-ready targets across its portfolio has resulted in targeting based off of the open source geophysical datasets over Mustang’s Athabasca Basin Uranium portfolio Areas of interest have been identified based on this reinterpretation: Positioned approximately 45 km south of the Athabasca Basin edge this project hosts an EM conductor anomaly coinciding with a magnetic low and subtle radiometric uranium signature (Figure 1) the project lies along trend with known uranium and REE occurrences The company plans to initiate a field-based prospecting program this spring to further assess these priority targets Figure 1: 914W Project claim and minutes the Ford team said it would return for another go Mustang’s 815-horsepower beast shattered its own 6.57.7 record by five seconds with a 6:52.1 minute lap The feat makes the Mustang GTD the fourth-fastest production sports car to ever lap the so-called Green Hell Mercedes AMG GT Black Series and Porsche GT3 RS “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes but we aren’t satisfied,” Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said last year after GTD’s first sub 7-minute lap “We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD The new time came as the halo Mustang — estimated to cost $325,000 — ramps up for production this spring for customer delivery 2024 test included updated powertrain calibration and reconfigured traction control for better acceleration out of Nürburgring’s corners The GTD’s 2024 achievement was celebrated at the New York Auto Show last week where the ultimate ‘Stang was featured in a special exhibit on the show floor detailing the car’s 2024 accomplishment the display will have to be updated to reflect the new time 73-turn track is the benchmark for performance car testing with speeds cresting 180 mph for long stretches the Nürburgring lap was clocked by Ford pro-race driver Dirk Müller Müller also piloted the Mustang GT3 — the race car version of the production GTD — in North America’s IMSA Weathertech Sportscar series The pair placed 7th at the Detroit Gand Prix and 10th overall for the year The Mustang GT3 kicked off 2025 by winning the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona — following up on an impressive 2024 when it debuted internationally with a third-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France The winged GTD monster validates Ford’s ambitions to compete against elite sports car brands including Porsche Ford will also be entering the top-rung prototype class in 2027 to compete for the overall world championship for the first time since the GT40 dominate Le Mans in the late 1960s back to our founding,” said Ford in a press release because there’s nothing better than high-stakes competition with the best in the world for improving quality No current Ford vehicle exemplifies this philosophy like the Mustang GTD.” The GTD’s 2024 attempt was marred by inclement weather a common issue in the remote Eifel Mountains where Nürburgring resides The lap time closed the gap to the lap times of the Mustang’s Porsche and Mercedes rivals both of which compete against Ford (along with Chevrolet’s mid-engine Corvette) in the international GT3 class with race versions of their own supercars The supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine is similar to the mill in the last-generation 760-horsepower Shelby Mustang GT500 but includes upgrades like a rear-mounted transmission dry-sump oil system and swan-neck rear wing for better downforce The carbon-fiber-skinned GTD was developed by Ford’s Toronto-based racing partner Multimatic which also developed the mid-engine Ford GT The lap record by a production hypercar is 6:29.1 set by the Formula 1-based Mercedes-AMG ONE The outright lap record is held by the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo race car at 5.19.5 Henry
