His energy and desire to do the right thing for his community is commendable
Another resident who has seen Baker “busily chopping weeds to keep the sidewalks passable“ and picking up trash as he goes along is Joyce Sorrese
“He does so out of the goodness of his heart and pride in his community,“ Sorrese said
The community thanks him and is grateful for him.“
When informed of Baker’s upkeep of the road
Suffolk County officials encouraged residents with concerns regarding maintenance of its more than 2,000 miles of roads to contact the county through its 311 system
“Our crews work every day to keep Suffolk the beautiful place it is,” said the county’s communications director
“There is always an opportunity for residents to contact the county through its 311 system about conditions that may need to be addressed

he is appreciative of the people who have thanked him in person
He also said he has no plans to slow down his years-long efforts to improve County Road 16
I just have to get out there and do it,” Baker said

County Park in Nesconset that the DA says was caused by Terence Wolffe
(The Suffolk County Parks Department)NESCONSET
NY — A Mastic man was arrested on felony criminal mischief and other charges after he was accused of intentionally damaging parkland in the undeveloped wilderness of Walter S
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said Wednesday
traveled to an off-trail area inside the park to clear and excavate a personal "hang-out" spot in the woods
"The destruction of county parklands is an affront to our quality of life in Suffolk County," Tierney said in a news release
"We will never stand by and allow Suffolk's beautiful and unique ecosystem to be compromised
I commend our county's Park Rangers for their diligence in this case and look forward to further strengthening the working partnership between our offices."
axes and shovels to chop down native trees and vegetation
dirt and earth from an area approximately 1,150 square-feet in dimension
Wolffe would then pile the displaced brush
While some trees in the area were left standing
Wolffe had hacked and sectioned their roots
jeopardized those on trails from falling timber
Wolffe dug so deep in certain spots that water flow was redirected from nearby wetlands into the cleared zone
Preliminary environmental estimates place the replacement value of the felled trees and cleared plants at approximately $20,000
"This number does not incorporate restoration of the parkland’s natural grade; nor does it incorporate the extensive labor and equipment costs for remediation," the DA's Office wrote
Park Rangers assigned to the Targeted Response Unit helped lead to Wolffe's arrest
Tierney's tough stance on environmental crimes prevented further destruction of environmentally sensitive county parkland," Laton said
Wolffe was arraigned Wednesday on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and multiple related Environmental Conservation Law and Suffolk County Code violations
the charges are not considered bail eligible
so Wolffe was released on his own recognizance
A longtime Nesconset hot spot for breakfast and lunch has completed its latest transformation
“This used to be the Corner Cafe,” Jason Nappi
one of the partners of the new Nappi’s Nook
it was JT’s Corner Cafe and before that it was Jan’s Boutique Cafe
It’s always been a breakfast and lunch place
and we wanted to keep that motif because it’s different.”
Jason Nappi and his brother Stephen Nappi are the latest to run an eatery at 204 Smithtown Blvd
thanks to additional support from their father
Stephen Nappi and his wife Denise Nappi ran Nick and Gina’s in Selden for 12 years before closing shop in 2019
When Jason Nappi’s wife Jeanne Nappi noticed the Nesconset vacancy
“When we sold the pizzeria restaurant
we decided if we ever get back into [the restaurant business]
it would be a breakfast and lunch place,” said Stephen Nappi
who has worked in the industry for three decades
“It’s a nice family establishment
and we’re hoping to bring excitement into this neighborhood.”
With a cursive “Nappi’s Nook” adorning an ivy backdrop
a renovated bar top and a sleek interior design
its clear the new restaurant aims to be the the hot new brunch spot on the block
“It’s not your ordinary diner-type breakfast menu,” Stephen Nappi said
“We wanted to go a little more upscale
We went with short rib grilled cheese (and) short rib benedict
We use Mike’s hot honey in a couple items to kick things up
The breakfast and brunch menus are rounded out with various omelets and pancake stacks
as well as the chicken dance — the eatery’s chicken and waffles with sausage gravy and a maple drizzle
Nappi’s Nook offers sandwiches and flatbreads; fried chicken; honey barbecue
bacon and ranch on Texas toast; and the sweet Gatsby
chicken salad filled with cranberries and walnuts
and served with lettuce and tomato on multigrain bread
we’ll also have Bailey’s in the Nappiccinos
we’ll have amaretto’s,” Jason said
“We’ll have all different cordials
The Nappiccinos — a play on cappuccinos — come as flavorful as the breakfast orders cooked up in the kitchen
the chocolate-covered strawberry Nappiccino practically mirrors the Nutt-e stack of buttermilk pancakes topped with Nutella
strawberries and a dollop of chocolate whipped cream
“We would love the younger brunch crowd,” Jason Nappi said
“We have all different drinks we’re going to be doing
We’re going for a newer vibe.”
