The Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 is one of the fastest racing shoes available
thanks to its lightweight and aggressive design
but it’s not likely to be a very durable shoe
and the rockered design pushes you to run in a certain way
Aggressive rocker won’t suit everyone
The best carbon plate running shoes are always launched with a lot of hype
Puma backed up those claims with research showing the shoe could offer a substantial improvement in running efficiency compared with other top racing shoes
Running more efficiently means you can sustain faster paces for longer
and I was very excited to get hold of the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 just before tackling the London Marathon
A couple of training runs in the shoe impressed me enough to use it on race day
and I logged my second fastest marathon in the Fast-R 3 at London
I’ll explain why I think it’s one of the best racing shoes available
The Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 launched in April 2025
making it $40 more than the Fast-R 2 and one of the most expensive carbon plate racing shoes on the market
The Puma Fast-R 3 is one of the lightest racing shoes I’ve tested
tipping the scales at just 6.6oz in a US men’s size 10
That’s substantially lighter than the Fast-R 2
and the weight reduction is a big plus given that the stack height is still 40mm at the heel and 32mm at the forefoot
so you’re getting a lot of cushioning underfoot for long races
It has an 8mm drop like Puma’s other racers
and I found the fit to be similar to the one on the Deviate Nitro Elite 3
in that it’s just a little long for me in my normal size
which is fine for me as I have a narrow foot
but those with wider feet might find the Fast-R 3 tight around the midfoot
translucent mesh upper on the Fast-R 3 is very lightweight and minimal
with just a touch of padding around the back of the shoe
It held my foot securely and comfortably throughout long runs
and the shoe was breathable and the upper didn’t feel soggy even after running through showers on the course or dumping water over myself
The midsole on the Fast-R 3 is not completely decoupled like that of the Fast-R 2
but you can still see the carbon PWRPLATE running through the foam through the large cutout on the bottom of the shoe
There is also a cutout under the heel of the shoe
which pushes you to land more towards your midfoot
and the Fast-R 3 has an aggressive rocker profile to push you onto your toes
The carbon plate then actually extends beyond the front of the shoe
which Puma says helps to increase the efficiency of the ride
This is a unique feature of the Fast-R line
but it will be interesting to see if other brands adopt it in the future
given the impressive performance of the shoe
The midsole foam is Puma’s Nitro Elite
which is made from aliphatic TPU and is a highly lightweight and responsive material
It’s not as squishy and soft as some foams
Puma shoes always offer good traction thanks to the PumaGrip rubber they use
and that’s still the case with the Fast-R 3
even though it only has a very thin layer of rubber on the bottom to keep the weight down
I can see some wear on the forefoot rubber on the shoe
Puma suggests the Fast-R 3 will last 200 miles/300km
which is not very durable but enough to carry you through a lot of races if you limit how much you use the shoe in training
The Fast-R 3 landed on my doorstep just 10 days before the London Marathon
when I was still deciding what shoe to use for the race
I had two good training runs to do the weekend before the marathon and used the Fast-R 3 for both
running a 15:53 5K at a parkrun and then a steady 10-miler where the smooth rocker on the shoe made sub-2:30 marathon pace feel almost effortless
Those runs were enough to convince me to use the shoe for the marathon
and it helped me secure my fastest London Marathon time (in eight attempts) and my second-fastest marathon time overall
despite having to slow down in the last 10 miles of the race
That last 10 miles is when the shoe shone most for me
I was tired and settled back into what felt like a fairly slow pace to try and avoid completely blowing up
but the shoe helped to keep me rolling along speedily enough to nab a fast time overall
The extended carbon plate is noticeable in how it pushes you off your toes
and the lightweight design makes it easier to keep picking up your feet when tired late in races
and while I loved how the shoe felt when running fast
the lack of support at the heel and pushy rocker might rub some runners up the wrong way
if I had completely imploded and had to walk or jog to the finish
owing to the lack of stability and support
If you simply want the fastest shoe available for your next race
the Fast-R 3 is one of my top two recommendations
The Puma has more of a rockered feel than the Asics and may well have the more efficient ride
but the Asics feels more natural and has been key to me getting through the last section of marathons while maintaining a fast pace
The Asics are also cheaper and easier to find at the moment
natural-feeling shoe that’s still lightning quick
and substantially cheaper and more durable if you plan to use your super-shoe for lots of training plus race day
it’s becoming harder and harder to stand out in the super-shoe market given the incredible competition from all brands
but Puma has managed to do it with the Fast-R 3
It has a wild design that delivers an incredible ride
and I can’t wait to race in it again

Puma invited us to their headquarters in Boston to test out their latest race shoe
While the chance to do some testing in the lab was exciting enough
what really got me was their suggestion to bring along our favorite race shoe for a direct comparison
has a brand so boldly proposed testing their shoe against my #1 choice in a lab setting
The Puma team was either incredibly confident or perhaps a bit audacious – and we were about to find out which
let’s take a closer look at the Puma Fast-R itself
unconventional option in the brand’s race-day lineup
Designed with a decoupled midsole made of an aliphatic TPU foam and a thick carbon fiber plate
the model has always made a statement with its distinct
But I’m not sure it was ever a legitimate race day option
The Fast-R 3 retains the decoupled midsole and exposed plate
but its design is now notably more restrained
with a more refined aesthetic and an overall softer
The carbon plate is lighter and less rigid
and the midsole foam is now a new formulation of aliphatic TPU
It delivers a softer ride in a significantly lighter package
The shoes retain the just-legal 40 mm/32 mm stack height
even though it doesn’t look like there’s that much foam underfoot
and minimal padding around the collar and heel
stretchy laces complete the minimal design and contribute to the overall lightweight feel
So what did we find out in the lab and out on the roads
ROBBE: I’m pretty sure I’m one of five people on earth who actually enjoyed both the Puma Fast-R and Fast-R 2
Maybe not for a full marathon going for a PR
but for longer distances at slightly slower than marathon speeds
Both models were heavier than they ever should have been; each version had a carbon plate that could’ve doubled as an aircraft carrier wing in a past life
The decoupled heel and midfoot seemed more gimmicky than functional
Things like the plastic spoilers on the heel looked interesting but had no practical use
I get why no Puma athlete actually raced in the shoe
So when Puma asked us to come to the HQ in Boston to test the shoe against our own race day picks
I thought that maybe they were just sadomasochistic and liked to be punished
we’ve heard over and over again from every brand how their shoe has improved run economy during performance
how their foam is the bounciest yet the most resilient
And I gotta say– Puma may have something special going for them
Let’s get into the review where maybe we can convince you to get there
MEAGHAN: I was very happy to see the color and overall design of the Fast-R downshift from the wild and crazy looks of the first two versions. To me it feels like Puma took notes from both the Deviate Nitro Elite and Fast-R 2 to make this iteration
The new mostly-white/light blue colorway with a subtle peach midsole and accents is a welcome departure from the fluorescent green and yellow of the second version
The step-in feel is surprisingly comfortable
and even though the shoe doesn’t look like it has a thick slab of foam beneath it
there’s actually a good amount of soft cushioning
The fit is true to size – just the right amount of snugness (like a true racer) without feeling like it’s crushing your toes
I haven’t had any issues with rubbing or hot spots
was how incredibly lightweight the shoe feels
My size W7.5 came in at just 5.2 oz (147g)
Now let’s talk about performance – both in the lab and out on the road. According to Puma’s data, I performed 2.5% better in the Fast-R 3 compared to the Alphafly 3
This would theoretically lower my 2:45 marathon PR to a 2:41
I really wanted to race a half marathon in the Fast-R 3 as part of my London Marathon buildup
so I wasn’t able to put them to the test in a race
Interestingly, the shoes were tested in an independent lab study at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst by the same professor who conducted the original Vaporfly 4% study
otherwise known as the shoe that changed running forever
For this study, the researchers evaluated the running economy of four race day super shoes, without further involvement from Puma: Nike Alphafly 3, Adidas Adios Pro Evo 1
PUMA Fast-R 2 and the prototype of the PUMA Fast-R 3
They found an improved run economy in the Fast-R 3 against all models; truly shocking was a 3.62% improvement over the Alphafly 3 and 3.56% over the Pro Evo 1
The Fast-R 3 was found to have the best running economy for all 15 subjects in the study
because they thought that the field had essentially plateaued in recent years
with everyone catching up to the Nike Vaporfly
with a +/- 1% running economy between the various models
If the Fast-R 3 is indeed that much more efficient over the course of 26.2
then it’s another level up in the shoe technology wars
I did use them for several workouts during my training
What stood out most was that my warm-up miles were consistently 30 seconds to a minute faster per mile
While the workout themselves still required effort
and the shoes felt great throughout (mostly
I’ve mentioned before how much I love the ‘mechanical’ feel of the Alphafly
where the technology underfoot seems to do a lot of the work
and I experienced something similar with the Fast-R 3
The decoupled midsole and carbon fiber plate that extends beyond the toe give the shoe a springboard-like feel
making it easier to hit faster paces than in a traditional trainer
A race day shoe should be snug and secure and you’d be hard pressed to find a race day upper that wraps the foot as well as the Puma Fast-R 3
and lightweight Ultraweave upper is barely there
No heel lift or gaping ankle collar either
which is always a plus since a lot of race shoes can’t get that right
I’ve always enjoyed the sensation of the Fast-R
Puma trimmed off all the fat (of which there was a lot)
with a teardrop style heel segment of Nitrofoam Elite midsole decoupled from the forefoot area
A whole bunch of fat came off the carbon fiber plate of the last version; this new one is thinner
and features a rippled edge on the lateral forefoot
The aliphatic TPU foam used in the midsole is the future of foam
Other race day shoes are designed for one or two marathons; Puma claims you can get eight out of this one
Then there’s the weight, coming in at a scant 6 oz. (170 g) for a US M9, making it one of the lightest race day shoes on the market, on par with the Nike Vaporfly 4
All of this comes together to create a shoe that is incredibly light underfoot with a quick turnover, snappy toe-off (aided by the toe extension), and impressive bounce. To me, it feels like a lighter version of the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0
In my test in the Puma lab, I put the Fast-R 3 against a fresh pair of Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 PB (a solid shoe in its own right)
I showed a 2.54% average advantage in run economy in the Fast-R 3
similar to Meg’s advantage against the Alphafly 3
but because the shoe was under strict embargo
we were not able to use it in an actual race
it’s difficult to say exactly how it will perform in either the half marathon or marathon
But in the experience I’ve had with the shoe
I can tell you that it for sure is in the conversation as one of the top race day shoes
which everyone knows is the best rubber in the game
I took this out yesterday on a rainy morning run and it handled everything exceptionally well
there is nothing you’ll want more than a Puma shoe on your feet
It combines everything you want in a PR race day shoe into one package– speed
MEAGHAN: If you’ve read any of my reviews
you know I come with a unique set of feet (yes
which means my big toes sometimes throw a little tantrum
And that definitely happened during workouts over 10 miles in these shoes
I’m pretty sure the extended plate has something to do with it
I think that means I’m likely sticking to the half marathon and below
Although it’s hard not to want to give the marathon a shot given the lab data…
which feels pretty steep (although that seems to be the general direction of race shoes these days)
Puma suggests this shoe will last 200 miles
and thinking every mile is costing $1.50 is kind of crazy
you’re probably paying $250-$275 for any race day shoe at this point (maybe more with the incoming tariffs)
ROBBE: The fit of the upper is excellent; however
if you’re not going in a straight-ass line
There’s virtually no structure to the upper
so when taking turns you’ll inevitably find your foot moving and pushing the upper from side to side
which may cause some irritation (as Meg had)
The Cielo-like cut-out and decoupled heel and forefoot
with a high stack of bouncy foam underneath
the forefoot is a bit wider and less unstable
would like to know how the legs would fare over the course of 26.2
Because while it does incorporate everything we love in a shoe
and hits the upper limit of the World Athletics stack height regulations
it still feels a bit like a half marathon shoe underfoot when it comes to comfort
Running economy measures the energy output over shorter distances
but it doesn’t measure the toll on the legs over a full marathon
I do wonder how I’d hold up over 3 hours and 30 minutes in the shoe
MEAGHAN: I’m honestly just as surprised as you are to find the Puma Fast-R 3 making its way into my list of top racing shoes
and it’s amazing to see those big risks paying off
I know there are hundreds of runners tackling the Boston and London Marathon in this shoe
and I can’t wait to see how it performs on race day
ROBBE: Puma’s made some big promises in the past
But it was never a good sign when their own athletes refused to race in the shoe
opting for the more race ready Deviate Nitro Elite
often performing beyond their expected finish times
The Fast-R 3 be the thing that puts them on podiums
has a product that puts their money where their mouth is
or your money anyway – $300 of it to be exact
It’ll be interesting to see if the lab studies and the all-around improvements will be enough to send this shoe on its way to start lines around the world
in which Puma will pay out a $3,000 bounty to amateurs running in the shoe at Boston and London
would go a long way to validate their promises
I’m very interested to see how it pans out in the coming weeks
one thing is for sure – Puma finally brought the fast to the cat
and you can now consider them a major player in the race day game

If you were a nitro-racing fan back in the 1970s
the term “Think Pink” was probably familiar to you
and it was omnipresent in the Top Fuel and Funny Car ranks on the fleet of race cars whose prowess began with an Ed Pink powerplant
and a lot of us are Thinking Pink this week
The list of drivers and teams who relied on Pink Power is like a Who’s Who of the sport: Don Prudhomme
Drag racing was the meat in the sandwich that was Ed Pink’s very full life in motorsports and
he got into building Cosworth IndyCar engines and Porsche road-racing mills
Pink’s name will forever be enmeshed with a lot of people
who employed a young Ed Pink as the shop floor sweeper and go-fer at Hot Rod Heaven
Pink soon had a fuel-powered Ford lakes car
but there wasn’t enough of that activity going on to suit Pink
After he and Fran Hernandez went to the Goleta Dragstrip to check out the newer sport of drag racing
Deployment in the Korean War sidelined that endeavor
he had left dry lakes racing to concentrate on drag racing
he built a Top Fueler in the early 1960s and put Tommy Dyer behind the wheel
racing on weekends while operating a tune-up shop in Los Angeles
but his desire to develop new equipment for drag racing led him to concentrate on that
His early clientele were three big names in the sport — “Big John” Mazmanian
and Tommy Ivo — and as his reputation grew
his dragsters became a rolling test bench for his theories
He partnered with a fledgling chassis builder named Don Long
and that car bolstered both of their reputations
they were runner-up both days at the 1965 March Meet and were rewarded with the coveted Outstanding Performance of the Meet award
When Snively went to drive for Roland Leong in 1966
Connie Swingle took over the wheel of the Old Master’s car and won the Mickey Thompson 200-mph meet in Fontana
came knocking and asked Pink to build engines for his Tom McEwen-driven dragster
and “the Mongoose” quickly went out and won the Hot Rod Magazine Championship at Riverside Raceway
(The car is instantly recognizable for the cowl bumps to accommodate the driver's bent knees.)
When Baney landed the Brand Motors Ford deal
he brought Pink his first SOHC Ford engine in 1967 to build the next few years
Don Prudhomme replaced his old pal McEwen in the car
and they headed east to the NHRA Springnationals in Bristol
and won the race with the sport’s first official six-second clocking
“I didn't really know those guys before that
Ed Pink had more of a reputation as a Bonneville guy,” recalled Prudhomme this week
and Baney was always critical of ‘Mongoose’s’ driving
I wasn't that interested in that tuning stuff in those days
but you couldn't take the cylinder head off easily because they had a goddamn timing chain wrapped around it," he added
"It wasn't a real practical engine for drag racing
where they take the cylinder heads off every run
and it had an aluminum bellhousing and aluminum heads
The very thought of Prudhomme partnering with Pink shocked a lot of people, as Prudhomme had long been associated with Pink’s biggest rival, Keith Black. After all, it was Black who was the maestro of the dominating Greer-Black-Prudhomme dragster of the early 1960s and Black who taught Prudhomme and Roland Leong the ropes in 1965 in their remarkable Winternationals- and Indy-winning season
but Prudhomme remembers Black not being overly hurt
even when he ran Ed Pink power through his dominating mid-1970s championship run
“Keith was just great to me; he was wonderful,” Prudhomme reminisced with me
“But he got to the point where he wanted to be a manufacturer of blocks and cranks
and he didn't want to go to the drag races anymore
and Ed came out with his own block that was so nice
Keith didn't pay too much attention to the detail stuff
like painting the inside of the block like Ed did
where everything was real sano [that’s some ‘70 shorthand for sanitary
“Pink had the better block,” said Bob Brandt
Prudhomme’s right-hand man throughout his 1970s glory days in Funny Car
“It was a later version of what Keith Black came out with
but the Pink stuff was just so much nicer and different.”
Another factor in Prudhomme’s decision was location
Prudhomme lived in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley
a daily and sometimes tortuous hour-plus drive over the sometimes-congested Mulholland Pass into the South Bay
Pink’s shop was practically right around the corner
but as Funny Cars began to rise to challenge the dragsters for popularity
Although Gas Ronda was one of Pink's first Funny Car customers
it was Don Schumacher who really opened the Funny Car door for Pink with his deep pockets and fleet of cars
Few Funny Cars in the early 1970s were more successful than the Pink-powered Barry Setzer Vega driven by Pat Foster
all of the big-name Funny Car drivers — including Prudhomme
was the place to be if you liked your nitro brewed beneath fiberglass
Right behind Pink’s shop were garages for Prudhomme and so many others
and it became a hangout whenever flopper royalty came to town to race at Lions Drag Strip
“It was the kind of place where everyone kind of gathered when they were in town
especially out in the parking lot in the back,” recalled Brandt
and your shopmate might be your biggest rival
‘Run this pump and these nozzles,’ and blah
You would go to him and buy a complete engine and tune
which is why Bob and I just dug a little deeper
“Bob and I had come on to some stuff with the car that really helped
and we didn't want to tell Pink because he'd tell the Blue Max
so we went a long time with secrets," he said
"Dale Emery with the Blue Max was the same way
It got so bad that Bob built us our own flow bench so we could flow our own fuel pumps because before we'd have to take them up to Pink’s flow bench
and Pink and I used to go round and round sometimes
because it would bug the shit out of him.”
McCulloch was another superstar Funny Car driver of the 1970s who looks back fondly on his relationship with Pink
one that maybe went a little deeper than the others
“When Art Whipple and I had our first Funny Car in 1970
we first went to Keith Black because we were new kids on the street," McCulloch said
"I admired the guy because he would make you answer your own question
What do I need to do?’ And he wouldn't say
‘What do you think about that or this or that?’ When Art and I split in '72
"He always had a blower for me even when Schumacher would roll into town and almost wipe out his inventory
I didn't always have the money to pay for it right at the time
this bill's getting a little bit behind; we gotta get it picked up here,’ but he never
"A lot of people don’t know this, but when [Don Alderson] came out with the Mildon [engine], it was not that popular, and Ed picked that up and helped him develop that, and that’s the engine I did a lot of my winning with
Ed McCulloch was one of the many former clients turned "roasters" who honored Pink at his 80th birthday party back in 2011
"When Ed phased out of drag racing and went into other forms of motorsports
we stayed in contact and did a lot of things together," he said
"We traveled together with our street rods
It was more than just a business relationship; it was a true friendship
Our families would go snow skiing in the wintertime
we'd go dirt bike riding out to Jawbone [Canyon] with the guys and camp out
very knowledgeable man and very sincere in what he did
and it's really a sad thing to lose your mentors.”
Harry Hibler, who did everything from racing in Top Fuel to managing famed San Fernando Raceway to an executive at Petersen Publishing
was one of Pink’s closest friends for more than 60 years
“I really knew him from when Baney and McEwen held the UDRA meetings that I would go to for San Fernando
Ed was always kind of a buffer between me and some of the other people
because running San Fernando independent of NHRA
Ed was just always a champion for me for some reason," Hibler said
helped remodel and add a dyno room in Pink’s shop in Van Nuys
"The thing that I found really interesting and helped me out at Petersen was the fact he did engines for USAC cars and sprint cars
and being at Hot Rod magazine and Car Craft all the years that I was
and got to know so many of the different racers and engine builders through him
Ed was always the gentleman everywhere you went
I never heard anybody badmouth him in all the years that I worked with every form of racing
We tried to get together as often as possible
that emotional hub of the 1970s fuel world
who says it soon will be demolished along with neighboring buildings to make way for a transportation hub for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles
That will hurt because Brandt has such fond memories not just of the building but of the man
and a long relationship with “the Old Master,” and one that continued after Pink sold the business to Tom Malloy in 2008 and until Pink’s passing
(Malloy is relocating the business to the Santa Clarita area
Pink moved to another shop in in Newbury Park
and he asked Brandt if he’d be interested in helping out
and invitation led to a two-and-a-half-year stint working on a variety of engine projects that kept them both young
even as Pink’s health began deteriorating due to Parkinson’s Disease and other ailments
“We stayed in touch all the time; we were like family,” he said
We had a lot of lunches with all the guys; once a month
Spider [Razon]; we’d meet out at a little side street café in Newbury Park
we talked to each other at least twice a week.”
Even with his extensive knowledge of engines
Brandt always listened and learned from “the Old Master.”
“He was always like a big brother," he said
"Even when we worked out of a shop in the back in the 1970s
and he was working on some of the stuff himself
and he taught me a lot of stuff — stuff he never really showed anybody else
“Ed was always someone you could learn something from
like a lot of people whose lives he touched

Three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon will return to race for Rapisarda Autosport International at the Gulf Western Oil Nitro champs meeting at Sydney Dragway
The decision by team owner Santo Rapisarda to run a third car alongside regular drivers Wayne Newby and Damien Harris is a welcome boost for the category
which has struggled with car counts throughout the 2024-2025 season due to the absence of category stalwart Phil Lamattina and the retirement of two-time champ Peter Xiberras
Round five of the season has attracted a total of five entries
Dixon first raced for RAI in 2013 and has been a regular choice when the team has fielded a third entry
His last down under sojourn was at the Australia Day meeting in January 2024 where the luckless Dixon missed all three qualifiers on day one due to electrical gremlins and race day was cancelled due to rain
Dixon took 51 hours to travel from his home in Indianapolis to Sydney and return to race for a total of zero minutes
“I’m hoping for better luck weather-wise this time,” said Dixon
“It’s an honor and privilege to be invited by Santo and the Rapisarda family to race for the team at their home track in Sydney
The team is in career-best form with a record-setting world-class performance at their last outing and is up to the challenge of adding a third entry for the Nitro champs meeting
Damien and Wayne are battling it out for the championship and I’m not coming all the way from Indianapolis just to make up the numbers
catch up with the Rapisarda family and the friends I’ve made over the years and go racing.”
The venue is hosting its first round of the NDRC since the corresponding event in May 2024
The season’s penultimate round has Newby holding a 59-point lead over teammate and reigning champ Harris
with veteran Phil Read chasing his first title since 2008
who missed the season’s first two rounds
is out of contention to add to his tally of two championships
Newby will start as the nominal favorite after defeating Haris in the final at their last encounter
where Harris set the fastest and quickest Top Fuel time in Australian history with a run of 3.683 seconds at 331 mph in qualifying
Nitro Funny Car has attracted four entries
Aeroflow team boss Morice McMillin has a miniscule four-point buffer over teammate Josh Leahy with reigning champ Justin Walshe 218 points off the pace in third place
Walshe’s hopes of defending his title have been dealt several blows
including a series of race day mechanical glitches and a no-show at the previous round due to illness
who made an impressive debut at the Riverbend Nationals in April
Doorslammer makes their first and only appearance at Sydney Dragway this season after four rounds at the Perth Motorplex and two rounds at The Bend
Reigning champ Western Australian Russell Taylor
holds a comfortable 153 points lead over Lisa Gregorini on the hunt to be the first woman to win an Aussie ‘slammer title
11-time champ John Zappia is in third place 41 points behind Gregorini
holds a massive 184-point lead over closest rival Wayne McGuinness in Top Fuel Motorcycle

TAYLOR: No matter where you were in the room
No matter if it was a quick visit on the weekends or a long holiday stay
My grandparents’ house had a somewhat conflicting aura
It was a tug-of-war between a Kohl’s showroom and a Cabela’s
where beautiful pastels mixed with the trophies of long hours in the woods
I would literally eat Easter dinner off of a bright blue Fiesta Ware plate while locking eyes with one of Grandpa Greg’s mounts
The one who commanded the house was a sizable cougar mounted high on the wall
I loved going along with my grandpa when he set out to claim a new trophy (even though I froze my toes off dang near every time)
plus I was outdoors in the calm and quiet that spoke to me at a young age
and mountain lion were hunted far before I was born
but I loved hearing the stories of the long days of tracking the animals from both him and my uncle Mike
I envisioned this wild cat pouncing from rock to tree with ease as the dogs and humans fought for every step just to maintain a scent line
Rather than being a member of the hunting party
but Puma may just have the tool to help me do just that
REESE: Let me start by saying that my grandparents didn’t have a cougar in their living room
which is one point for Taylor but minus three points for me
I want as little contact with a cougar as possible
especially as it pertains to trail running
There is not a single cell in my body that wants to stare into the eyes of a large cat while I’m in the middle of nowhere in the mountains
I do watch all the videos of people encountering mountain lions on trails
It’s a nice feedback loop of anxiety
and I didn’t realize they were venturing into the trail running world
When Taylor and I met up to film our first impressions video for this shoe
I told him my Puma footwear knowledge stopped at its golf shoes (ugly) and one of their athletes
my lack of knowledge about Puma trainers set this review up as a blank slate
keep in mind that I wear thin inserts for arch support
I believe where Taylor and I diverge in thoughts is primarily due to that
what would be the characteristics needed to feel like a wild cat pouncing through the woods
and I just so happen to get many of those same feelings from the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail
I gained most of my confidence from a surprisingly impressive fit. The overall shape of the shoe is closest to something like the Hoka Speedgoat 6 or Nike Terra Kiger 9
The shaping and technically engineered UltraWeave upper gave a light but secure lockdown throughout the foot
especially in key places like the heel and midfoot
If I were to go for a run between four to six hours
I would strongly consider going up half a size
Puma’s Deviate Nitro Elite Trail also has a dynamic vamp that allows the forefoot to maintain a bit more splay, similar to the Hoka Tecton X 3
There wasn’t a huge amount of stretch like the Tecton X 3
but there was enough flex at the toe-off (as opposed to constricting)
Durability and breathability are a new age standard for race day materials, and the UltraWeave upper checks both of those boxes as the material is very much in the league of Matryx fabric found on the Hoka Tecton X 3, Arc’teryx Sylan Pro, Merrell Long Sky 2 Matryx
The “torpedo” shape always has the potential to be unstable
especially with a stack of 36 mm in the heel and 30 in the forefoot
and a PWRPlate created a surprisingly stable ride for this particular package
I’d describe the ride as impressively neutral
My feelings about the ride were far from neutral, though. The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail had a frickin’ spectacular sensation underfoot that’s not typical of trail runners. There are really only a couple of shoes that had a similarly comfortable soft cushioning with substantial energy return — the Saucony Endorphin Edge and the Hoka Tecton X 3 — but both had their own struggles because of it
The specifically designed PWRPlate offers both the stability and propulsive energy needed to put my best foot forward on smooth to moderately technical trails
This combo and the slightly tamer forefoot (compared to the road Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3) allowed for more versatility than expected
this shoe didn’t love to dance among the rocks
but the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail wasn’t too resistant to some speedy
If I could continue my stride in a mostly forward motion
the ridge of extra foam around the heel provided a little more stability and cushion for downhill segments and open trails
this aspect only added to the Deviate Nitro Elite Trail’s prowess
and the 3 mm lugs do spell out the purpose of this shoe: light trail
The outsole employs a unique lug design that works well for the crossover between dry trail and pavement
And I mean that in the “impressed by a Puma” way
not the “this could be my last moment” way
The standout feature of this shoe — hands down — has to be the NitroFoam Elite
I didn’t feel the plate as much — maybe this is the carbon plate for people who don’t love carbon plates
which my brain refuses to call anything but UltraWeviate because
Puma—you’re already making up words with missing vowels
It’s such a light upper that I could feel the wind blowing through it
The PWRTape (see?) around the midfoot helps to keep the foot secure in an otherwise very roomy shoe
I believe that my arch support insert helped a bit with the secure feeling I had
Puma’s tech sheet has the lifespan of this shoe at 500 miles
but they’re absolutely cooked by the time I get there
but I can say that after logging a hefty chunk of miles on them
I’m much more curious to see how the 3 mm lugs look after that distance
I do believe this shoe can last significantly longer than most of the shoes in my lineup based on how little wear and tear I can see on it
TAYLOR: As much as I was surprised by and enjoyed this shoe
there were some small annoyances in pretty much every category
Here they are from most intrusive to least
the ankle collar — this one was rough for me
The anterior side bit my ankle while the posterior side rubbed my Achilles
yet I firmly believe that Puma approached this heel construction right
It needed to be structured to support the rest of the shoe’s performance
I simply couldn’t finish a run without at least a little bit of friction on both sides of my ankles
and I had some irritation at the front of my foot
thanks to the internal supports rubbing against my pinky toes
including the fact that the forefoot felt slappy on flat bits of trail — something I haven’t experienced in a long time
as this was only mild and slightly annoying rather than performance-inhibiting
I could feel the firm full-length PWRPlate when I was putting a lot of pressure on the backside (i.e.
it was firm and mildly irritating after longer runs
I wish that the overall shape of the plate was either more spoonlike to alleviate the heel pressure or that more support was given under the arch
a three-millimeter lug is a bold move for a trail shoe
Even if PumaGrip ATR is a spectacular rubber compound for the trails
the leg depth and shape weren’t all that satisfactory
which limits this shoe to certain conditions and terrain
I wasn’t all that satisfied with the overall grip
REESE: There is a lot to like about this shoe
a good portion of the lug is far less than that
I had some issues finding purchase on steep uphills
the sizing might need a little fine-tuning
and while that’s what I was sent — and I had no trouble running in it — it felt a bit too roomy for my everyday runs
I can see the extra space being a plus during a 100-mile race when your feet inevitably swell
the shape of the toe box left a lot of that room feeling empty
While my toes had plenty of space on flat terrain
I noticed my feet getting crammed toward the front on descents
Puma has pulled together a very proficient trail racer
I use “surprising” in the sense that we just hadn’t seen what they’re capable of on the trail yet
they smacked us with the Puma Deviate Elite Nitro Trail
I love that even though specs may show that this shoe is similar in design philosophy to the Asics Metafuji Trail
the Deviate Nitro Elite Trail is actually a much more trail-ready super shoe
it’s a very well-built package that will please many
whether you’re the roadie who wants a familiar race-day feel on the trails or the seasoned ultra runner who wants a fast and fun option for the easy-to-moderate terrain applications
The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail is an exciting new addition to the trail running landscape
REESE: I’m impressed with Puma’s first big (cat) leap into the trail arena
And while this shoe wasn’t exactly perfect
I do believe it is going to be a terrific race day shoe as is and be the first of a super stellar line up
If Puma can get this shoe on a top finisher at Javelina 100k or 100-miler
or a similarly hot and not insanely technical major trail race
that might be just what this brand needs to roar… into the mainstream

numerous players have begun finding their new homes and announcing the school in which they will continue their college football careers
One of the latest players to announce their next destination is wide receiver Nitro Tuggle
who announced that they will be transferring to Purdue ahead of the 2025 college football season
Tuggle was indefinitely suspended by the Bulldogs for an arrest for a reckless driving incident that took place earlier in 2025
The suspension likely made the young pass catcher's path to the field this season extremely narrow and likely resulted in his decision to enter the portal
Tuggle hauled in three receptions for 34 yards during the Dawgs' 2024 season and was expected to have a larger role in the Bulldogs' offense this season
He flirted with departing from the Dawgs' roster and entered the transfer portal following Georgia's loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff
but eventually announced that he would be returning to Georgia ahead of the 2025 season

Some significant news rocked the stock car racing world on Friday as Venturini Motorsports (VMS) announced that the entire operation is being sold later this year. Nitro Motorsports will assume full ownership of the highly successful organization on October 15th
To help with the transition, Billy Venturini will remain as the general manager for one year
The Venturinis have been a part of the stock car racing scene since the 1950s and have owned an ARCA team since 1982
ARCA serves as the final step for drivers seeking to reach the three national levels of NASCAR and Venturini has played host to countless rising stars over the years. Billy's father Bill Sr
was a two-time ARCA champion as a driver and helped to establish the team with his wife Cathy
VMS is also the oldest active ARCA team and its most successful with 107 wins with multiple championships
The team is closely linked to Toyota and its driver development program
they've helped several current Cup stars climb the racing ladder
Toyota Racing Development] and Ron Drager [president
Each of them is what has made this journey so very special,” said Billy Venturini in a release from the team.
“The last 20 years [as owner and general manager] have been very rewarding
So the time has come to be able to prioritize other things ahead of racing
But it’s now time to prepare for my departure
“I knew that the person who was to take this team over when the time came needed to be someone who carried that same passion and intensity that I did
Nick seems like the perfect fit to continue this program for the team and for Toyota with the same devotion to drivers development as I have.”
Toyota will continue its partnership with the new owners
has competed in various Trans Am Series events
Toyota GR Cup North America races and the ARCA Menards Series as well
“Nitro Motorsports foundation has been built on driver development; a pillar of what Venturini Motorsports has been known for and curated
My partner Joe (Tovo) and I understand the responsibility to carry on that legacy and the history that the Venturini family has poured their life’s work into and build on that for many years to come with Toyota Gazoo Racing,” said Tucker
“With the acquisition of Venturini Motorsports

Last year’s Puma ForeverRun NITRO was the first time this new iteration of Puma running delivered a stability shoe, and, in addition to being one of the better looking stability shoes on the market, it immediately earned a place on our best stability running shoes list
Can the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 improve upon the original
the ForeverRun NITRO 2 is “a new era of support
This new and improved version provides unmatched stability thanks to a wider midsole
upgraded dual-density NITROFOAM cushioning
and an improved fit with a rolled collar and engineered knit upper
Made for your everyday running and training needs
ForeverRun 2 is a shoe that will make you feel like you can run forever.”
and anytime a brand says it’s entering a “new era” I roll my eyes; but this description does lay out everything Puma improved
And it’s a solid list for the second iteration of a shoe that certainly addresses some of the negatives from last year
Drew: The Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 brings back the dual-density setup, and it’ll look familiar to anyone that frequents our basketball and cross training reviews. It’s a similar setup to the Puma All-Pro NITRO and the Puma PWR NITRO Squared but has been tweaked for running and for stability
While the NITRO midsole is built for daily miles, it also picks up the pace nicely in small increments (though I wouldn’t want to do a workout in it). The midsole starts firmer than expected for a shoe with NITRO but softens as it breaks in. A couple days on hard, concrete city sidewalks and it’ll hit a sweet spot of squish and bounce that aligns nicely with Puma’s other daily running shoes
It also aligns well with many neutral daily trainers on the market in the $150-$160 price range – which is always nice because it allows those wearing stability shoes to feel like they aren’t missing out on all the fun midsole foams. The ForeverRun NITRO 2 and the Saucony Hurricane 24 are aligned in that regard
but the ForeverRun NITRO 2 looks way more sleek
But Arune is the Hurricane 24’s biggest fan…so I’m interested to hear how he thinks the ForeverRun NITRO 2 stacks up
Even then, I found it hard to get the energy return from the midsole that I get out of stability shoes like the Saucony Guide 18 or the aforementioned Hurricane 24 – both of which rewarded me much more with my novice running style
There simply wasn’t any joy in the ride for me
and I may be the exception since many runners (like Drew) enjoy the unique dual-density setup that Puma has popularized
I would’ve liked a bit more pop or energy return from the midsole given how much else I think the shoe really gets right
Drew: The Runguide system (a TPU guiderail and firmer foam carrier combo) adds stability to the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 without feeling like the shoe is taking too much control
The TPU guiderail is also better shaped this year to provide support where needed and remove excess TPU where it’s not
The wide base (which is wider than last year’s already pretty wide base) is also helpful
I love how the rear of the shoe has a new horse hoof shape with the lateral side slightly enlarged versus the medial side
It naturally rolls the foot back to a neutral position from wherever I landed
it accommodates a wide variety of pronators without feeling too restrictive
This isn’t a shoe where you’ll ever have problems sliding off the footbed when cornering
The ForeverRun NITRO 2 is built with security and support firmly in mind
But support features don’t always treat people equally
how did they work for your hobbit feet Arune
Arune: While I may not have been very positive about the cushion
there’s a lot about the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 that works well
And the support here is excellent – so much so that I didn’t even think about it on my runs
This just felt like a daily trainer that was taking me where I wanted to go
The geometry of the shoe also really benefits my gait because
the horse hoof shape encouraged my foot to hit naturally without causing the heel striking I often get from other brands’ enlarged rears
and taking tight corners was so natural because there’s no feeling of “excess” shoe on my foot
And that makes it easy to keep pushing through the run (even with my aforementioned issues with the midsole)
Drew: The Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 is a Puma running shoe
which means it uses PUMAGRIP – which means it uses the current top-of-the-line outsole
PUMAGRIP handles all conditions and surfaces with ease and is the best option on the market for rainy or icy conditions
The outsole of the ForeverRun NITRO 2 delivers that same elite performance
I’m still surprised a shoe company is making outsole rubber that outshines tire companies
Arune: This is my first time experiencing PUMAGRIP
and I’m now a truther right alongside Drew
We’ll be handing out pamphlets at all the major marathons and making sure to ask if you accept PUMAGRIP as the savior of your traction needs
It’s kind of insane to me that Puma is so far ahead of every other shoe company with its outsole grip; and it’s not even close
I don’t think I’ve ever talked this much about traction
The heel collar gets an internal memory foam-like pillow that wraps the ankle and helps prevent the back of the foot from feeling the TPU rails of the Runguide System
the engineered mesh collar with the integrated elasticized pull tab is soft
and makes the shoe way easier to get on foot
But we’ll handle that in the sizing section below
Arune: I’ve been really positive about the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2
so I feel less guilty expressing some disappointment here
While I enjoy the lack of excess molding or material on the upper
this upper absolutely choked my Hobbit-esque feet – but not in the forefoot
and this is not a shoe that’s ever gonna feel like it’s coming off your feet
But I also need a shoe that’s going to adapt to my foot instead of compressing it so much
and I wish more running shoes had the visual personality that Puma brings to its line
the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 isn’t wide-foot friendly
It’s better than the original as there’s more room in the toebox
and the engineered knit conforms better to various foot shapes… But there’s just not enough room for many wide-footers
but the shoe’s low ceiling and narrower midfoot/heel may still cause issues
It’s a shame because a wider last would make the ForeverRun NITRO 2 the clear number one stability shoe on the market
Those with narrow or normal-width feet can go true-to-size and enjoy the fit
But be sure to try it on if you have a high arch
as the interior of the shoe isn’t as tall as many running shoes
but if I had a true wide foot then I don’t know if I could’ve even done that
the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 overdelivers in the price department
Most shoes with its set of features sit at the $160 or $165 price point
Arune: Coming in $10 below the expected median daily trainer price isn’t something to scoff at in this economy
So often shoe reviewers forget how most folks can only get one pair of running shoes per year and every dollar matters; so it’s great to see Puma providing some added financial incentive for everyday runners to pick it over other brands
While the performance of this shoe wasn’t for me
it was for Drew – and that tells me this is a shoe that will well be worth the dollars
The Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 is best for runners that need unobtrusive stability in their daily running shoes but still want a shoe that can handle a lot of miles while providing all-around comfort
Drew: The Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 is one of the best stability running shoes on the market and will soon be added to our list
The ForeverRun NITRO 2 goes a long way towards making stability shoes cool
Arune: While the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2 ultimately isn’t for me
Drew’s reaction to it leads me to believe many of you will enjoy it as long as you’re not wide-footers

Day one of what is shaping up as an epic three-day Gulf Western Oil Nitro Champs roared to life at Sydney Dragway today
delivering non-stop action across Group One
and Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship qualifying
Leading the charge on Friday were Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle
launching into their first qualifying runs of the weekend
They were joined by an impressive line-up of Pro Drag Racing Championship contenders
alongside more than 200 Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship racers
Damian Muscat has so far continued his dominant form of the category with a top qualifying performance under lights after the running of the bracket was delayed due to clean-up when Pro Alcohol contestant Jake Donnelly went into the nets – thankfully Donnelly is okay
Ian Ashelford (8.454) and Corey Buttigieg (10.039) took to the track first
with Ashelford on a decent run until mid-track before getting off it
Muscat then undertook a solo pass with the ‘five second man’ losing an idler pulley at half track on what to that point had been a strong 6.386 run at 295.45kph
John Zahra then also had a solo after that pulley was retrieved from the racing surface
but struck difficulty first requiring multiple attempts at approaching the water box and having to get off it after heading to the centre line (14.225)
“We went good out there – we went 6.836 and it was a little bit shakey out of the hole but otherwise we got away okay,” Muscat explains
“Our blower idler pulley came off about half track so we had no blower then and that was all she wrote as we didn’t keep accelerating after that
we are happy to get that first run off the trailer down with a 6.38
it is pretty good really and we will see now if we can improve from there tomorrow
With one qualifier completed for each of these brackets and one more to come tomorrow ahead of the beginning of their racing
Steve Carlsen (FuelTech Pro Mod) and Jason Lee (Pro Stock Motorcycle) currently top the time sheets for their respective brackets
NDRC is also pleased to report that PSB competitor Lachlan Ireland is fine after walking away from a spill in his qualifier
Stay tuned for further reporting on these brackets from the PDRC
Also providing entertainment for those watching trackside and online was the Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship with the beginning of qualifying for the line-up of more than 200 sportsman racers
and Simon Barlow (Modified) were leading the way for their brackets with more qualifying and racing ahead for them tomorrow
The Gulf Western Oil Nitro Champs continues Saturday
Pro Stock Motorcycle and NDRC Aeroflow Sportsman Championship qualifying from 8.00am
ahead of the first racing runs for these fan-favourite brackets later in the day
Top Fuel and XPRO Nitro Funny Car also hit the drag strip for the first time this weekend
with qualifying for these 11,000 horsepower beasts scheduled from 1:30pm

Two Georgia football players who were suspended indefinitely from team activities after separate driving incidents last month are planning to enter the transfer portal
Wide receiver Nitro Tuggle posted on his Instagram account Thursday morning about the development
while offensive lineman Marques Easley reposted a report on X (formerly Twitter) from Dawgs247 that he was entering the portal as well
Tuggle was arrested on March 19 in a high-speed driving incident
Police charged the redshirt freshman with reckless driving and speeding after they said he was driving 107 miles per hour on the 10 Loop
Easley was charged with three counts of reckless conduct
when police said he lost control of a 2021 Dodge Challenger
and two vehicles parked in front of the Athens Ridge Apartment Complex in Watkinsville were hit in the incident
Easley has a May 9 court date in Oconee County
Tuggle has a hearing on the charges against him on May 19 in Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court

If you’ve found yourself panic-googling “cheap Mother’s Day gifts” at the eleventh hour
CVS has a lineup of under-$25 gifts that are thoughtful
and look way more expensive than they actually are
with people scrambling to recreate it without making the trek to Rhode Island
If I ever find myself even remotely close to a Nitro Bar location
I’m heading straight there to try their creations firsthand
I’ll enjoy my silly little parasocial relationship
I’ve turned to experimenting with copycat coffee recipes to capture some of that magic at home
If you’re also drooling over the viral coffee shop on your FYP
here are 10 coffee recipes inspired by The Nitro Bar to try out at home:
I WAKE UP CRAVING THIS NOW, also i forgot add the vanilla 😬 #icedlatte #icedlatterecipe #summerrecipes
The Nitro Bar blueberry latte has completely taken over the internet this summer
The unexpected pairing of blueberry and espresso sounds a little weird at first
you will see how incredible it is when you try it
comparable to peanut butter and jelly or a burger and fries
Straight from The Nitro Bar itself, this coffee recipe is as close to the real deal as you can get without hopping on a flight. I love a good mocha, so I’m obsessed with Nitro Bar’s take on it. It’s a simple recipe that uses ingredients you likely already have, so you can make it ASAP without a trip to the store
This strawberry latte might be the most aesthetic drink ever
It’s the same process as making a regular matcha latte
but all you need to do is mix some strawberry syrup with the milk before combining it with the matcha
Orange and vanilla are classic flavor combinations, but if you’ve never tried them with the addition of espresso, you’re missing out. Who doesn’t love an excuse to drink a grown-up version of a creamsicle to kickstart their morning
The Nitro Bar has far more than just lattes that I’m dying to try
and this watermelon matcha lemonade is one of them
I can’t think of anything more refreshing on a hot day
and this copycat recipe is filling the Nitro Bar-shaped hole in my life
My new hyper fixation: strawberry milk lattes 🔁😻🍓 heresheys strawberry syrup is the star in this – 1 tbsp strawberry syrup – 3 oz milk of choice – 2 oz espresso
For the easiest way to make the strawberry milk necessary for this coffee recipe
simply mix up a splash of Nesquick strawberry syrup with your milk of choice
you can also whip up an easy homemade strawberry sauce by reducing fresh strawberries and sugar on the stove
Whichever method you choose to make your strawberry flavoring
Goal for 2024… make it down to @The Nitro Bar
If you’re feeling adventurous with your coffee order
this Nitro Bar coffee recipe is the one to try
You’re not going to find it at your local coffee shop
and it’s so much more fun than your everyday vanilla latte (though I love those
why do i almost prefer it over the iconic blueberry vanilla lattes 🍒🤭 #icedlatte #icedcoffee #summerrecipe
you know they just announced their new latte flavor
I have faith that one day I’ll be able to try it in person
I can relish the fact that with this recipe
I have my hands on a cherry vanilla latte even earlier than the most dedicated Nitro Bar patrons
As the coffee shop that popularized the blueberry latte
Nitro Bar has introduced plenty of other blueberry drinks on its menu
If you can’t swing a trip to Rhode Island anytime soon
this delicious homemade version will satiate the craving
Nitro Bar has done it again with an original coffee creation that literally makes my mouth water through the screen
Grab a jug of strawberry milk from the store or mix up your own with a homemade strawberry syrup to take this tasty treat to a new level

The local coffee shop opened its first location in 2018 inside of Dash Bicycle Shop on the West End of Providence
and has since added two more locations in Newport
Regulars at The Nitro Bar in Providence have come to expect a line out the door as they await their weekly dose of caffeine
the business — which now has three operating locations in Rhode Island — has become a “hot commodity,” Nitro Bar regular Becca Day told The Herald
who just moved to Providence a few months ago
attributed her constant visits to the coffee shop’s unique environment
rotation of seasonal flavors and kind employees
“A lot of people from the neighborhood come in
The local coffee shop was established in 2016
when co-founders Audrey Finocchiaro and Sam Lancaster built what Finocchiaro dubbed “a shitty box on wheels.” The couple maxed out Finocchiaro’s $1600 credit card in the process
“You can’t let the dollar amount in your bank account dictate how you feel about yourself as an entrepreneur,” Finocchiaro said.
Finocchiaro and Lancaster rolled their cart around the streets of Providence with minimal success
the enthusiasm of Brown students “really changed the trajectory of the cart,” Finocchiaro said
Sales spiked and the pair was eventually approached by investors to jumpstart their wholesaling journey
they opened up their first permanent location inside Dash Bicycle Shop on the West End in 2018
Each of the three operating locations has its own “vibe,” according to Finocchiaro
Now, the brand has gone viral on TikTok, amassing over 418,000 followers since 2020. Their most popular video has almost 17 million views and 2.6 million likes
The Providence location is the company’s first and smallest
location boasts a “more refined menu,” she said
The stores may each offer a different niche
Finocchiaro “never expected to have that kind of reach,” but “the brand somehow caught some attention and kept it rolling,” she said
Since their TikTok account gained traction, sales have increased by 60%
Finocchiaro tries to “show up authentically,” working hard to create content that she’d want to watch herself
It’s about “posting the content that you feel good about and trusting yourself in the process,” she added
quality and the finer things in life,” Finocchiaro said
“It’s always been important to us to treat our team like family,” she added
and “transcending that onto the customers that come in.”
“My favorite thing about working here is the sense of community,” Roche said
“All of my coworkers and I are super close.”
While Finocchiaro and Lancaster are excited to expand in the future
they want to keep their sights set on where they got their start
“We’ve gotten approached a ton to do franchises
but it's not something that Sam and I are interested in,” Finocchiaro said
“We like having control over the environment and everything that goes into it.”
But that doesn’t mean the shop has stopped rolling forward: The Nitro Bar is currently looking for another location
“We love our location over on the West End
but we definitely would love a second location in Providence,” she said
it’s “crazy” that so much has changed since 2016.
Nitro Bar’s website proclaims that the cart’s next stop is “the moon.”

Georgia wide receiver Nitro Tuggle was driving 107 mph before he was stopped and arrested by police on March 19
according to an Athens-Clarke County Police Department incident report
was clocked driving 42 mph over the speed limit on the Georgia State Route 10 Loop outside Athens
He was driving a 2021 Dodge Charger and his girlfriend was in the car
The arrest report indicated there were other motorists on the highway and that Tuggle stopped his vehicle in the right lane
at which point he nearly exited without placing the vehicle in park," the report said
"Due to his reckless disregard for the safety of others -- including himself
and myself -- by operating the vehicle at a speed 42 mph over the limit and exceeding triple-digit speeds
Tuggle was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and speeding
Georgia coach Kirby Smart suspended Tuggle and freshman offensive lineman Marques Easley from the team indefinitely on March 20
was arrested in Oconee County (Georgia) on March 17 after wrecking his Dodge Charger into a power distribution box in an apartment complex and causing damage to other cars
Smart called the team's latest traffic arrests "disappointing."
both of them are younger players and have made crucial mistakes," Smart told reporters
it's been several years in terms of defensive driving courses
having players ride and learn how to drive
A wreck killed a Georgia football player and a recruiting staffer in January 2023
hours after the Bulldogs celebrated their second straight national championship in a ceremony at Sanford Stadium
Offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in the wreck that occurred while LeCroy and defensive tackle Jalen Carter were racing
"[Athletic director] Josh Brooks has done a tremendous job meeting with every player
one of those young men got his driver's license within one month of that happening at 18 or 19 years old
and it's amazing how many kids come to school now without a driver's license
but one of those things we will continue to educate and discipline our guys to try to correct it."
The Acer Nitro Blaze 11 is an interesting gaming handheld
which does prove that bigger can be better in some ways
The screen is gorgeous and the versatility of its detachable controllers makes it enjoyable
But that price and small battery does make me nervous
AMD laptop APU should be a strong performer
It’s $1,099 — that’s a lot
I should have seen the Acer Nitro Blaze 11 coming. When I went hands-on with the Acer Nitro Blaze 7
I spoke about how the use of AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS was an interesting choice because the expectation was for a laptop chip to be used in bigger devices
And be honest — you laughed, just like I chuckled at the monstrous size of this handheld in the press shots
It looks like someone just took this Steam Deck competitor and enlarged it in Photoshop
The gigantic screen is bright and colorful
showing your games in their best light on-the-go
the Nintendo Switch-esque detachable controllers and kickstand make this nice and versatile for any gameplay scenario
the Hall Effect joysticks are a welcome upgrade over the Blaze 7
this is a lot lighter in the hand than you’d think
But there are two big alarm bells ringing ahead of properly reviewing
with a 55 Whr battery (only 5 more than Acer’s 7-inch)
I’m a little nervous about how long this 11-incher will last
That is steep — especially when similarly-priced (or cheaper) RTX 4060 gaming laptops are right there with vastly superior performance
Is this a case of gaming handhelds going one step too far
Dimensions14.3 x 6.7 x 0.6 inchesWeight2.3 poundsDisplay10.95-inch IPS display

3.5mm headphone jackAcer Nitro Blaze 11: What we likeIn some ways
Acer Nitro Blaze 11 is a mighty gaming handheld
Even though the size may seem way too large on paper
it’s actually one of the strengths here
The Blaze 11 is a beast in the hand that can take a while to get used to
but it’s really not as bad as you may think
it’s actually a rather nice gaming experience
It all starts with that gorgeous WQXGA display
Psychonauts 2 ran with a nice fluidity and a flash flood of color
The RDNA 3 integrated graphics on-board here may struggle with running games at that full resolution
but a quick downgrade to 1080p still looks good on this panel
this is a lot lighter in the hand than I expected — reducing any of that fatigue that I feared over longer play periods
All the controls are in the right place you’d expect them to be
and the hall effect joysticks are guaranteed to last you a good long while
the fact these controllers are detachable and there’s a kickstand on the back does lend itself to some good couch-based multiplayer or popping the display on a tray table while you play
Turns out in the wrong of PC gaming handhelds
While the Z2 does support the updated RDNA 3.5 graphics capabilities
the TDP of the 8840HS does go to a higher 55 watts
which could translate into more raw horsepower for games
delivering stellar performance with frame rates in Shadow of the Tomb Raider (1080p on High settings with FSR set to balanced) reaching 70 FPS—blowing the Steam Deck OLED out of the water
which manages just 40 FPS at a lower resolution
Combine that with blazing-fast DDR5 RAM running at 5,700 MT/s and a PCIe Gen 4 SSD
and you’ve got a true powerhouse on your hands
but with both of these come a couple big downsides too
It’s a tricky purchasing decision when you take into account two key things for a gaming handheld — battery life and affordability
We already had this issue with the 50 Whr cell in the Blaze 7
especially given how hard that CPU can go on the total wattage
which makes it an even bigger potential red flag
That is a huge display to try and run with a smaller battery like this
I don’t want to say anything definite until I can properly test this system for myself
I did see the battery life playing Psychonauts 2 go down from 100% to 92% after a 10 minute burst
Let’s talk about that $1,099 price tag. That is a steep investment in this handheld, especially given what you can get elsewhere in the PC gaming handheld space. For example, the beastly Asus ROG Ally X with a far larger battery is $300 less
which is guaranteed to be far more performant in gaming
You’ve got to be seriously committed to gaming handhelds to consider this
Acer has proven that a larger handheld can hang amongst its 7 and 8-inch brethren
The Blaze 11 is a fundamentally enjoyable gaming experience with versatility at its heart
thanks to the detachable controllers and kickstand
while also being surprisingly lightweight in the hand
Plus that Ryzen 7 APU should pack enough power for some solid 1080p gaming
But with a rather small battery for its stature and a high price
this is a tough purchasing decision to make

Two of drag racing’s premier nostalgia-themed events
the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion and the Nitro Revival
action-packed weekend at Famoso Dragstrip Oct
The NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion featuring the Nitro Revival will bring together the best elements of both historic events at the storied California racetrack
a staple of the nostalgia scene since 1992
which has drawn scores of famed names from drag racing’s past and thousands of fans for autograph sessions and massive Cacklefests during its five-year run at recently closed Irwindale Dragstrip
The NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Good Vibrations will be the final event of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series season
with nostalgia drag racing highlighted by Top Fuel
and Gassers and all of the other Heritage Series classes
Blake Bowser at Famoso took over the running of that event last year and created renewed interest in the event
which now will be supercharged with the elements of the popular Nitro Revival
which was created by Steve and Cindy Gibbs
The proceeds of the combined event will benefit the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona
Fans attending the event will be treated to the largest gathering of Cacklefest cars you'll see anywhere
complete with the popular push starts and fire-ups
Friday night’s social gathering is at the track
while Saturday will be highlighted by the All-Star Autograph Session
where fans can meet dozens of drag racing Hall of Fame members and witness the annual Nitro Revival Honoree Presentation
There will also be a silent auction of incredible drag racing memorabilia up for bid
“It was an honor that NHRA trusted me to run last year's reunion for them
“And now we've got Steve and Cindy joining with us
and you can trust us that we will put on a good show
and I’m proud to be the conduit that is helping to make this happen
We're going to honor what Steve and Cindy have done and combine it with the great parts of the reunion
from the fans to the racers to the media.”
“We’re really happy to see these two elements of the sport combine to honor the cars and the people of the sport
which was the original idea for the Hot Rod Reunion so many years ago,” said Steve Gibbs
“We’re going to do our best to recapture the feeling of those early reunions as a celebration of the sport and its history
and Cindy and I are pleased to do our part in conjunction with Blake and his great staff at Famoso.”
will be released throughout the year leading up to the event
Available now for $180
MEAGHAN: There’ve been a couple shoes that debuted in 2024 that have been quite a surprise
and the Puma MagMax Nitro might be on the top of that list
I didn’t even know this shoe existed until it showed up at our front door
We never saw a sneak peak at TRE and didn’t even see any leaks online
the MagMax Nitro is Puma’s new super max cushioned trainer
sitting at 46mm in the heel and 38mm in the forefoot for an 8mm drop
The upper is designed with an engineered mesh and reinforced with Puma’s classic Pwrtape while the outsole features their signature Pumagrip
When we get so many shoes in through the door it can be easy to build up an expectation in your mind as soon as you find out that something is on its way
I knew nothing up until the point I had the shoe in hand and then on foot
I have come to enjoy the max cush cruisers
I’m not quite as young as I once was
so anything that puts distance between my feet (fat pad and all) and the ground is welcome
Some shoes and foams are better than others
so I didn’t want to let a big stack of Nitro lull me into a sense of security
I wasn’t sure if the surprise arrival was all the MagMax Nitro had in store
With my optimism outweighing the stack of running shoes still surrounding me
I was pretty confident the MagMax Nitro was going to be a fast favorite
While my preferred colorways tend to be all-or-mostly white
the light blue mesh with lime green accents is a nice look
This shoe’s step-in feel is really plush
and the stretchy knit tongue adds a premium feel to the upper
which is even more fun than it looks — and it looks pretty fun
It’s impressively bouncy out on the road
Puma managed to nail a good mix of comfort and responsiveness in the MagMax Nitro
It feels super cushioned but also bouncy enough that you could pick up the pace if you wanted
While most max cushioned shoes fall into that recovery-only category
and I found myself lacing this one up day after day
which seems very reasonable given the miles you’ll log in a pair
THOMAS: I can agree with basically everything that Meg said
The upper on the MagMax Nitro does an excellent job of locking the foot down over such a generous helping of Nitro foam
which is a relief — especially if you have ankles like Robbe’s
the Nitro itself feels surprisingly stable
adding even more reassurance for your ankles
While I’m on the topic of that Nitro foam
it’s worth mentioning that it’s a good one
It’s soft enough but resilient through the course of a run
It squishes nicely but pretty much launches you into your next stride
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
It remains one of the best outsole compounds on the market
and it kept me feeling even more secure on the MagMax Nitro’s large platform
for a max cushion shoe that keeps me feeling fresh but doesn’t have to be reserved for recovery days
MEAGHAN: I guess if I had one negative thing to say about the shoe
so while I find it comparable to the Superblast in its use case
THOMAS: This year has been the year of heavier trainers
I’m either getting used to the extra weight
or the midsole foams are responsive enough that I don’t notice it as much as I used to
which is pretty hefty for any kind of shoe
MEAGHAN: The Puma MagMax Nitro has quickly become one of my favorite shoes of 2024
This shoe will definitely stay in my rotation throughout the fall
and it’s been one of my go-to choices when I’m not actively reviewing another shoe
this one should be on the top of your list
just like it’s hard to describe why one shoe sometimes has the x-factor while another doesn’t
Puma’s MagMax Nitro is fun to run in
and I like it for daily miles and long slogs alike
I’d probably opt for something lighter for properly fast efforts
Inevitably, it’ll get compared to the Hoka Skyward X, New Balance More v5, Asics Superblast 2, and the Brooks Glycerin Max
I think the Glycerin Max is probably the closest
it’s a great time to be a fan of bouncy
You can pick up the Puma MagMax Nitro for $180 from Running Warehouse (featuring free shipping and 90-day returns) by using the buttons below
So which is better the Magmax or the Glycerin Max
I really like the Puma a lot for recovery runs but wonder you take on the two shoes
I knew nothing about it did not read any reviews
just saw it on running wearhouse and thought I need to treat ma self
It reminds of what the shift should have been
It is very very heavy for my little legs 🙁 I wear a 9
So it’s a tank but will just make race day shoes feel feather light
Thomas’s goal is to help runners pick the shoes and gear that will make their running experience the best that it can be
It feels better in the hand than I originally assumed it might based on pictures alone. The grips conform to the hand pretty well, and there are no hot spots on your palm on the rounded corners. The joysticks feel less flimsy than the Lenovo Legion Go or the original Asus ROG Ally
more like the Steam Deck OLED or ROG Ally X
The triggers feel smooth along the curve of the fingers
There’s a handy dedicated keyboard button
the race car decals aren’t too distracting
Everything you need for a handheld is there
The built-in Acer Game Space software needs a lot of work
You can bring up a control panel to change some options
like controlling VRR between 60 and 144 Hz refresh rates
or turning on the simple performance monitor
There are no immediate options for controlling TDP or fan speeds
The launcher menu currently only has two tabs: games and launchers
The software will hopefully improve before release
Ditto with any kinds of pricing details or even whether consumers will have different specs options at different price levels
A 2 TB storage option would indeed be expensive
but Acer told me they’re considering how it will compare to the high-end competition
While you can find some non-mainstream handhelds from the likes of Ayaneo for $1,000 or more
the Ally X and MSI Claw are the most expensive offerings at $800 MSRP
I’m most concerned about performance
Instead of using the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme mobile processor like Asus or Lenovo
I don’t know why Acer opted for the specific Hawk Point chip
and the company didn’t have an answer for me when I asked
Acer had two relatively intensive games running on its demo units
it was barely holding steady at just above 30 or 40 FPS on low settings
it was jumping between 45 and high 50s in some areas
we should keep in mind these handhelds were running continuously for hours on end
This wasn’t the environment for any kind of true benchmark
Acer chose these games for its press demos
The company would know first of any issues with its devices
Despite VRR and a higher-than-average refresh rate
the screen is bright enough for a dim room
but an IPS LCD won’t compete with Valve’s OLED for visual quality or Legion Go’s larger screen with a wider color gamut
though paltry compared to the Ally X’s 80 Whr battery
It’s equivalent to the Steam Deck OLED
though that system’s screen is purportedly more energy efficient
but it will be hard to win a race when competitors are so far ahead

Tuggle was arrested on Wednesday by Athens-Clarke County Police
According to the police report obtained by DawgNation
Tuggle and a passenger were driving in a red Dodge Charger on Thursday night
Tuggle was driving in the inside lane on the Outer Loop 10 near College Station Road at 10:18 p.m
The arresting officer, using speed detection equipment, clocked Tuggle going 107 miles per hour. The speed limit for that area is 65 miles per hour. Georgia cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested in the area last September for driving 106 miles per hour.
The arresting officer initiated a traffic stop
with Tuggle’s car ultimately stopping in the right lane
The report also states that Tuggle nearly exited the car without putting it into park
The police report states that Tuggle was arrested due to “reckless disregard for the safety of others.”
and appeared in 8 games last season for Georgia
He caught 3 passes for 34 yards for the Bulldogs
Tuggle is expected to be a bigger part of the wide receiver room at Georgia
Georgia coach Kirby Smart shared his reaction to the arrests on Tuesday night following Georgia’s practice
“Yeah, disappointed, obviously, in those two young men and the decision-making process for each one,” Smart said. “Both of them are younger players and have made crucial mistakes.”
Georgia has had 32 incidents involving a Georgia football player or staff member who has been charged with speeding
reckless driving or reckless conduct dating back to the Jan
2023 death of football player Devin Willock and support staffer Chandler LeCroy in a car crash
Smart shared that he looks at every incident on a case-by-case basis
This was Tuggle’s first arrest during his time in Athens
Smart provided additional details on how Georgia goes about educating its players on practicing safe driving
“It’s been several years in terms of defensive driving courses
“Josh Brooks has done a tremendous job meeting with every player
It’s very unfortunate that one of those young men got his driver’s license within one month of that happening
And it’s amazing how many kids come to school without a driver’s license
but one of those things we will continue to educate and discipline our guys to try to correct it.”

W.Va (WCHS) — Spring fire season is in full swing in West Virginia
and there has been no shortage of calls for local fire departments
firefighters and the WV Division of Forestry responded to a fire in Nitro
"We quickly attacked," said Joe Stevens
Public Information Officer Nitro Fire Department
water and blowers and we were able to circle the fire around
Stevens said that the fire in Nitro burned a little over three acres before it was contained by the Nitro Fire Department
along with several other fire departments in the area
Stevens said the fire was the result of a side by side overheating and igniting the dry foliage
With little significant rain fall over the last few weeks the ground has been very dry which is one of the key factors that results in brushfires
an assistant regional forester with the Division of Forestry said it doesn't take much to ignite an entire area
"All it takes is one little leaf flying into the air and landing in the wrong spot," Spencer said
"And they can catch the whole woodland on fire."
The fire in Nitro was contained in around 45 minutes
Members of the Department of Forestry and local firefighters took steps to prevent the fire from rekindling
"A backburn is we are going to go back and burn all the fuel that was available," Stevens said
all the twigs that sort of thing so that it wouldn't rekindle after we leave."
Spring fire season will be in effect until May 31st and people are strongly encouraged not to burn outdoors between the hours of 7 a.m
The Division of Forestry said that it is best to refrain from burning during allowed hours if it is windy and dry
The Acer Nitro XZ322QU V3bmiiphx is an entry-level 32-inch gaming monitor with a 1440p resolution and a 180Hz maximum refresh rate. It sits above Acer's 32-inch 1080p models, such as the Acer Nitro EDA320Q P, and competes with similar monitors, such as the 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G55C S27CG55 and the Dell S3222DGM
It supports FreeSync and G-SYNC VRR and has a backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur and integrated speakers
It also has a few extras designed for gamers
such as the ability to boost the brightness of darker parts of scenes
and an overlay that displays the monitor's current refresh rate
It has a 180Hz refresh rate and FreeSync and G-SYNC VRR support for smooth motion
Fast-moving objects also look fairly crisp at higher refresh rates
though they look less crisp at lower refresh rates
It also has very low input lag for a responsive feel
although it displays fairly deep blacks in a dark room
More blur and smearing at low refresh rates
The Acer XZ322QU is okay for console gaming
It displays fairly deep blacks in a dark room and supports VRR with the Xbox Series X|S
it doesn't support VRR with the PS5 and PS5 Pro
and fast-moving objects are a bit blurry with both consoles
it displays a limited range of colors and doesn't get bright enough for highlights to pop in HDR
Its large screen is great for multitasking
It also gets bright enough to overcome most glare and has good reflection handling
it has narrow viewing angles and a limited swivel range
so it's not ideal if you need to share your screen with others
The Acer XZ322QU is satisfactory for editing
It's extremely accurate before calibration
and its large screen ensures there's lots of room for toolbars around the content you're editing
most editing monitors of this size have a higher resolution
so this monitor's images and videos aren't as sharp
so it's difficult for someone next to you to accurately view your work
It's bright enough to overcome glare from any source
it's not bright enough for highlights to pop in HDR
It's fairly crisp at its maximum refresh rate
You can also see smearing at all refresh rates
The Acer XZ322QU has disappointing HDR picture quality
The Acer Nitro XZ322QU has good SDR picture
It has excellent contrast and displays a wide range of colors in sRGB
The Acer XZ322QU has amazing color accuracy
Colors are quite accurate before calibration
though calibration is required for the best accuracy
Acer has a number of very similar 32-inch models
You can see some of the differences between these models below
but this review's results are only valid for this model
Our unit's label indicates it was manufactured in September 2024
and displays a wider range of colors than the Acer
if you want a 32-inch gaming monitor and your budget is limited to the price of the Acer
and overcomes most glare in brighter environments

The Dell S3222DGM and the Acer Nitro XZ322QU V3bmiiphx are both 32-inch 1440p gaming monitors
The Acer is the better option if you're gaming in a bright room
It also delivers a more engaging experience
as it displays a wider range of colors and has better gradient handling
The LG 32GN650-B/32GN63T-B and the Acer Nitro XZ322QU V3bmiiphx are 32-inch 1440p gaming monitors
The Acer is the better option for competitive gamers
It's also a better choice for gaming in a bright room
if you're on a budget the LG can be a good option
The Dell G2725D and the Acer Nitro XZ322QU V3bmiiphx are 1440p gaming monitors
The Acer is the better option for most gamers
as it displays fast-moving objects more crisply
It also delivers a more immersive experience
displaying a wider range of colors and deeper blacks in a dark room
so you may want to consider it if you're on a limited budget
The Samsung Odyssey G65D S32BG65D and the Acer Nitro XZ322QU V3bmiiphx are both 32-inch 1440p gaming monitors
The Samsung is better for those looking for an immersive experience
as it gets much brighter in HDR and displays a wider range of colors
the Acer could be a better choice if you frequently use VRR
The Acer Nitro 31.5 WQHD curved gaming monitor has an understated appearance that works well in either a gaming or office environment. The bottom of the back panel has line etchings, and at the front the bottom bezel is thicker than the other three sides
as it allows a lot of wobble if someone bumps the monitor
The ergonomics are okay. While you can make any adjustment in a horizontal position, the monitor's swivel mechanism has limited range. It also doesn't have anything to assist with cable management
Because the stand doesn't have a quick-release mount
you need to unscrew the stand to remove the display
The thickness measurement is from the edge of the monitor to the back of the stand
it's only 6.3" (16 cm) from the front of the monitor to the back of the stand
The thickness measurement is from the edges of the monitor to the back
the thickness in the middle is 2.0" (5.1 cm)
The monitor has a joystick that serves as a power button and controls the on-screen display
DisplayPort cableHDMI cablePower cable and supplyDocumentation
You can see fairly deep blacks next to bright highlights
though the monitor doesn't have a local dimming feature to improve this performance
Though the Acer XZ322QU doesn't have local dimming
we still film these videos so you can compare the backlight performance with a monitor that has local dimming
It's bright enough to fight glare in most situations except for intense direct light
Its brightness also doesn't vary with different content
While it's bright enough to overcome glare in most environments
it doesn't get bright enough for highlights to pop
as there's a sharp cut-off at peak brightness
The monitor enables Super Sharpness by default when HDR is in use
this can cause a shimmering effect with some content
if you change the HDR setting from 'Off' to either 'Auto' or 'HDR-400,' the monitor will apply what looks like an HDR filter over SDR content while listing it as an HDR signal
You can avoid this from happening by turning HDR off on the monitor when you're not receiving an HDR signal
The only reliable indicator of the monitor receiving an HDR signal is the brightness and color settings being locked-out
The horizontal viewing angle is disappointing
The slightly curved screen helps reduce washout for a single viewer sitting directly in front of the monitor
it looks quite washed out and slightly green for anyone sitting next to you
Whether you're looking at the monitor from above or below
the image washes out and starts to look slightly green
While there's a notable amount of variability close to the edges
the center of the screen is fairly uniform
You can clearly see backlight bleed along the edges of the screen
this monitor doesn't have a local dimming feature to improve this performance
The accuracy before calibration is excellent in the 'Standard' Picture Mode
The color temperature is close to the 6500K target
and the gamut mostly stays within the sRGB range
While this monitor has an 'sRGB' Color Space mode, it performs much worse than the 'Standard' Color Space mode
As long as you're not using the 'sRGB' mode
If you do choose to use the sRGB mode the following settings are locked out:
The Acer XZ322QU's accuracy after calibration is outstanding
It covers nearly all of the commonly used sRGB color space
but it has much less coverage of Adobe RGB
and cyan are quite inaccurate in this space
It displays a limited range of colors in the commonly used DCI-P3 color space and an even more limited range in Rec
a number of colors are somewhat inaccurate in both color spaces
It doesn't display brighter colors vividly
The text clarity is good. Using Windows ClearType (top photo) helps improve the boldness of letters and makes them easier to read. These photos are in Windows 10, and you can also see them in Windows 11 with ClearType on and with ClearType off
Though the matte screen effectively diffuses light
its reflections can be distracting if you place it opposite a sunny window
There's minimal banding between shades of similar colors

its response time isn't fast enough to make full-color transitions before the monitor begins drawing the next frame
though there is some smearing in darker shades
The recommended Over Drive setting is 'Normal,' as 'Off' has much more blur
and 'Extreme' has much more inverse ghosting
with only a moderate amount of blur or ghosting
though there's more smearing than at 120Hz
and 'Extreme' has a bit more inverse ghosting
Refresh RateBFI SettingMotion Blur Photo180HzNormalPhoto180HzExtremePhoto120HzNormalPhoto120HzExtremePhotoThe Acer Nitro XZ322QU has a backlight strobing feature called VRB to reduce persistence blur
If you try to adjust brightness while VRB is on it turns off
The 'Longest Pulse Width Brightness' measurement is from the 'Normal' VRB mode
while the 'Shortest Pulse Width Brightness' measurement is from the 'Extreme' VRB mode
While this monitor doesn't have VRR flicker in brighter scenes
it does have flicker in the darkest parts of scenes
Even though the flicker isn't immediately apparent
it's not hard to spot again once you see it
which helps reduce eye strain if you're sensitive to it
The input lag is slightly higher when Ultra-Low Latency is turned 'Off' or when you're using backlight strobing (VRB)
The Backlight Strobing (BFI) measurement is with VRB set to 'Extreme' and Ultra-Low Latency 'On.'
This monitor only supports some of the PS5's capabilities
you need to manually set the monitor to 'HDR 400' for the PS5 to recognize it as HDR-capable
This monitor works well with the Xbox Series X|S
you need to manually set the monitor to 'HDR 400' for the Xbox to recognize it as HDR-capable
The Xbox only supports HDR with 4k signals
so HDR only working at 4k isn't a limitation of the monitor
While some sites list this monitor having DisplayPort 1.4 bandwidth
we can confirm this monitor has DisplayPort 1.2 bandwidth
