— David Boyle grew up in a white house on a 50-acre farm
which stretches for more than three miles along U.S
but they’re not really farmers,” he said in an interview
That all changed when an Audia Plastics plant came to neighboring LaFayette
bringing with it additional noise and light pollution once the factory was built five or six years ago
who is chair of the Noble Neighborhood Association
The Chattanooga Times Free Press tried to reach Audia via email, phone and left a voicemail. Assistant General Counsel for Audia Mary-Jo Rebelo said via email the company declined to comment on this story. But according to its website
is one of the world’s largest plastics manufacturers focused on plastic compounding
roaring sound that many have compared to a giant vacuum cleaner
and it can be heard a mile east of the plant
(READ MORE: Company quits land purchase deals in Resaca, Georgia, after rezoning denied)
there are already trains in Noble and traffic
so the combination of noises disturbs the area’s natural setting
Many residents walk the rural roads for exercise
They walk with a desire to hear the birds but are instead confronted by an industrial sound in the background
Boyle said the noise does not disturb his sleep because he lives in an insulated house
but the noise is mostly noticeable when people are outside
He imagines the people who live on the road adjacent to the plant can’t sleep
“We can accept some increased traffic,” he said
We can accept the increased railroad noise that’s periodic through the day
but the 24-hour vacuuming noise disturbs our rural tranquility.”
The town may soon become home to a second industrial plant if Walker County commissioners approve rezoning land near Glass Road in LaFayette from agricultural to industrial during a vote
The community does not want the increased industrialization that could come with rezoning 90 acres north of the Audia plant
Boyle said when the Audia Plastics plant was proposed for the Walker County Industrial Park on the former Swanson Cattle Farm
leaders from the Planning Commission met with the Noble community
Residents were assured the plant would not change the neighborhood or the quality of life and that there wouldn’t be any pollution or disturbance in the suburban and rural residential areas
Neighborhood locals have never seen or spoken to the owners of the Audia Plastics
“I don’t think they’re aware of the neighborhood that they exist in,” he said
Boyle said he and other residents don’t see the plant’s management having any interest in the community
Boyle said he’d like the plant’s owners to put up a sound screening on its east and north sides and plant rows of trees to improve the surrounding environment
there is a hill and many trees protecting the area from the noise
he said the sound travels directly into Noble’s residential area
“We’re not asking (them) to move or to shut down,” he said
“We’re asking to ameliorate because we’re used to this being cow pasture.”

the community’s residents like to see the stars in the rural sky
but light pollution from the Audia plant prevents that
as many travel the path between Canada and Georgia
Boyle said he’d like the plant’s owners to point the lights on the building’s corners downward to ensure they shine onto a surface instead of up into the air
Since the 1960s, about half of the town’s residents commute 38 minutes via Highway 27 to drive about 22 miles from Noble to Chattanooga for work, Boyle said. It is small and known for the 2002 Tri-State Crematory scandal
in which more than 300 bodies were found in various stages of decomposition on property owned by crematory director Ray Brent Marsh and his family
“We’re part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area
and we have the same concerns as people out in Ooltewah,” he said
we want to preserve our semi-rural character
In a recent email exchange seen by the Times Free Press
Boyle vocalized his community’s concerns regarding noise and light pollution from the Audia plant
Boyle invited Hart to the Noble Neighbors meeting on April 28
which included a discussion of the Audia plant
a desire for a traffic engineer to review the intersection of Center Point Road and Industrial Way with U.S
Residents also discussed a lack of action taken after the Development Authority gave the impression the area’s industrial park would be landscaped along with a new road to enhance the neighborhood’s beauty
Boyle said the Development Authority informed the community that there are 40 acres at the south of the Swanson farm tract
which became the over-400-acre industrial park
Residents haven’t heard anything from the board since
especially since traffic on the side roads has increased
making walking and biking unsafe,” Boyle said
Hart was unable to attend the Noble Neighbors meeting
“I would love to attend as I am deeply involved with some of these issues now,” Hart said in an emailed reply to Boyle
we have our quarterly Farm Bureau meeting that same evening at the sametime

Hart said he met with the Development Authority Board on April 28 and wanted to discuss with Boyle
He addressed the vote on rezoning the land adjacent to Glass Road from agricultural to industrial
“I have talked to many folks about it since the Planning Commission Meeting and truly understand the concerns,” he said
Boyle said of the exchange he thinks Hart is trying to be helpful
as Hart encouraged Boyle to call or email him to set up a time to discuss complaints

Milly’s Pizza In The Pan is leaving Uptown for a larger location
Here’s a Chicago pizza bombshell: Milly’s Pizza in the Pan, one of the city’s best deep-dish pizzerias, is closing its Uptown location to move into a new location. Owner Robert Maleski announced that his restaurant will relocate to Noble Square inside a space at the southeast corner of Ashland and Walton
Milly’s debuted in 2020 in a Logan Square ghost kitchen, making 10 pizzas a day, and the pies sold out in a flash. In February 2022, the pizzeria found a permanent home at 1005 W
Milly’s is mostly a takeout and delivery operation
“It’s going to have even less seating than the Uptown location,” Maleski says
But the good news is that a larger kitchen and better oven will allow Milly’s to double its production from 60 pizzas a day to 120
While Uptown had embraced his small business — Maleski initially made all the pizzas himself — the restaurant had outgrown the space
Maleski was baking using a convection oven
he says the appliance wasn’t very forgiving
Maleski says he wasn’t looking to leave when the new location’s landlord approached him about three weeks ago
currently home to a ghost kitchen operation called Lucky’s Food Group
Maleski became enamored with its conveyor-style pizza oven
The new restaurant’s Cutler oven (a brand previously and more widely known as Middleby Marshall) is often called the “Cadillac of pizza ovens,” coveted by pizzaiolos for its ability to deliver consistent and crispy results
The space was once home to a location of Pizza Metro
the Roman-style pizza spot known for its late-night hours
which Maleski estimates is 15 to 20 years old
Maleski says he doesn’t have immediate plans to expand the menu as he anticipates the demand for pizza to increase in Noble Square
The move also makes Milly’s more accessible to tourists staying at downtown hotels who need their deep-dish fix and don’t want to waste their vacation waiting for a table at a downtown chain
and has had a chance to cook in the new space to experiment with the new oven
He’s pleased: “It’s taken everything up to a new level.”
Milly’s opened a location in suburban Berwyn in March 2024
While the move will open more opportunities for Milly’s
Maleski remains melancholy about leaving Uptown
He’s grateful for their support: “It’s been a great neighborhood for us.”

Barnes & Noble has sold its last book at one Hudson Valley location after 20 years in business
but it may not be all bad news for New York State customers
Sometimes you can have the best-run company in the world with the most loyal customers
but there's nothing you can do to change the way people shop
Radio Shack and GameStop are just a few examples of how difficult it is to overcome changing technology and shopping habits
thriving in an environment that many people predicted would have them shut down years ago
Ever since Amazon.com launched its online bookstore in 1994
the world has been waiting for Barnes & Noble to go out of business
the Barnes & Noble in White Plains closed its doors for the very last time
had been serving customers for over two decades
the location was closed after its lease ended
While this is bad news for local book lovers
don't expect this to be the start of a downward trend for the beloved retailer
New York Barnes & Noble recently closed down for several days due to electrical issues
there's no indication that any other Hudson Valley locations are in danger of shutting down

opened its doors to the public on April 23 — with hundreds of customers and avid readers lined up outside
“I knew it was going to be (a popular event) because of the ramp-up (of followers on social media),” Morse said
adding how the bookstore’s accounts had been keeping followers up to date with the progress
“I didn’t think there would be that many people out there
A lot of us worked at the previous location
so we were just as sad as customers and residents when it closed
but we were just as excited to be back in this area and we could see the buildup to the excitement to this day.”

who then stayed to promote and sign their line of books they’ve written together
Additionally, back at the Palms of Carrollwood, which also saw Sam Ash Music Center close last year, the entire plaza is getting a facade facelift, with other businesses such as Petco, Keke’s, Great Clips, Carrollwood Compounding Center and Fresh Market all opening during the work.
In March 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnes & Noble announced that it would temporarily stop selling magazines and close 400 of its 620 stores. However, the company ended up reopening, relocating and reversing course, with 60 new locations in 2024 and plans to launch another 60 additional stores in 2025.
“I’ve been with the company a little over 10 years,” he added, “so I’ve seen the differences from how (the stores have) been run and now they’ve given each location more local flare because it used to be that (at each location), you put the same books on the same table in the same spot in every store.
“Now, at the local level, there’s a lot of flexibility with marketing.”
That not only includes stocking local authors, books, materials and other media, but also bringing in local authors for signings and events.
It’s an aspect that Morse — an avid reader of mystery thrillers and adult fiction — enjoys because it allows him to feel out “the vibe” brought in by customers and make his store a common ground of great books and other media.
“But, I think, they’re all here for the same thing — that new book smell.”

One of the biggest questions hanging over Berkshire Hathaway is why Warren Buffett has built such a large cash reserve
causing a wave of laughter to roll through the crowd
who was sitting only a short distance away from him in the crowd watching at the CHI Health Center
where Business Insider was watching the proceedings live
Buffett said he would happily spend $20 billion
on the right opportunity if it were a business or other asset that offered good value and they felt comfortable owning for the long term
and even Berkshire stock have thwarted the value investor in recent years
The billionaire said that he'd prefer if there were enough bargains on offer that Berkshire would only have $50 billion in reserve
But he said it would be the "dumbest thing in the world" to consistently invest $50 billion a year just to shrink Berkshire's cash pile
He also emphasized that he may have already been too active in the market over the years
"Charlie always thought I did too many things," Buffett said, referring to his late business partner, Charlie Munger
Deerhoof are the 21st century version of The Fall
they have an almost off-puttingly large back catalogue of wayward and ecstatic noise pop to wade through
and they’re also a band who play by their own rules
and in a seemingly constant state of aural transmutation
the four piece from San Francisco suture together a disparate array of sounds and influences to create something that’s both beguiling and wildly distinctive
For casual observers they could be described – quite rightly – as a tricky proposition
So thank the maker that we’re above such reductive thinking about music
Noble and Godlike in Ruin is their 20th studio album and revels in the band’s sheer energy and habitual shapeshifting (aural tone
while being wrapped up in their general skittishness
Behind the seeming mess of obtuse and lackadaisical guitar hooks
and Satomi Matsuzaki’s inimitable yet infantile vocal delivery lies a cogent (though not always immediately coherent) and fierce political message
Beneath the surface level’s joy and exuberance lurks a darker side with lyrics that delve into immigration and alienation
For a band whose work exists within a liminal space of their own creation
The album opens with “Overrated Species Anyhow” which has an undeniably great title and comes across like “The Star-Spangled Banner” on high dosage Mogadon – it’s a woozy
bleary call to arms for all the dispossessed
diasporic people as Matsuzaki wants them to know they are seen – “Love to all my aliens / Lost despised or feared / You are why / I wrote these passages.” It’s the prologue to the album as a whole
an overview of the thematic focus of the record and one that comes full circle on the album’s closer
“Overrated Species Anyhow” suggests a more sombre
introspective Deerhoof (which would be no bad thing
truth be told) but any fears about a lack of verve which is central to their identity are soon assuaged with “Sparrow Sparrow” and “Kingtoe” which both have almost nursery rhyme hooks at their core
It’s the band’s ability to cover serious narrative themes and messages underneath fractured and shifting musical earworms that set them apart from the rest of the field
and for which they should be rightfully applauded.
“A Body of Mirrors” opens with disquieting drones
akin to a horror film soundtrack that Deerhoof clearly need to write next
They’ve never sounded so regal and so bereft of their usual zest for life
it’s breathtaking in its brevity and assuredness
and almost funereal in pace and it’s thrilling to hear a band in their fourth decade push themselves into new territories
like many others within Deerhoof’s arsenal
covers an array of genre tropes and sounds
“Return of the Return of the Fire Trick Star” weaves its way like a distorted and bastardised Minneapolis funk tune
while “Disobedience” feels like Nine Inch Nails jamming with Kiran Leonard (a collaboration we’d all love to hear
yet never willing to sit within one musical domain long enough for the listener to feel comfortable
They can never be accused of being complacent
but in a world of clear-cut categories and demographics it’s hard to place the band within a restricting – though necessary for some – label which is absolutely one of the best things about them.
Any album with an appearance from Saul Williams is worth your time
and “Under Rats” is a highpoint of the record
anxiety-inducing track about climate catastrophe where Williams’ breathless delivery opines that “Being and becoming with no end is unsustainable / Blood and oil
drainable / Name all the unnameable” while Greg Saunier’s loose but metronomic drumming is enough to carry the rap on its own
The vocal interplay between Williams’ voice-of-god approach and Matsuzaki’s seeming vulnerability is an absolute joy
And that’s a key phrase of the album as a whole – absolute joy
the subject matter is serious but there’s an optimism at the core of the album which centres on recognising the flaws in the system
and acknowledging a sense of unity that we need to survive
There’s a real crackle of energy to the tracks as they twist and turn in on themselves
a seemingly disparate bunch of songs which perfectly reflect the human condition – always different
always the same (as John Peel once said of The Fall)
“Immigrant Songs” has a four-to-the-floor beat
and an actual chorus – Deerhoof’s general sense of obfuscation is thrown away to show that (to paraphrase and recontextualise Stewart Lee a little) they can write songs
It ends on a beautiful cacophony of noise that feels like a cathartic abandonment of the shackles of responsibility that comes with being a truthsayer.
The rapidly emerging machinations of the fascist theocracy in the United States of AmeriKKKa (mark my words and open your eyes
people) is currently courting eugenicist ideas with
They’re collecting private medical records
Maybe we all need to refamiliarise ourselves with the concept of humanity
and the words of Pastor Martin Niemöller to redress the slide into despotism that’s happening before our very eyes.
Noble and Godlike in Ruin sees Deerhoof create a mesmeric yet fundamentally angry album that’s a patchwork quilt of affirmations about cultural identity and unity
The title stems from a quote in Frankenstein about poor ol’ Victor
and the album’s cover is a collage of the faces of the four band members – something recognisably beautiful is created from a mess
It can be seen as a comment on the fractured and dislocated cultural and political spheres of the post-postmodern era where authenticity seems like just another quaint and outdated idea; originality of thought and action are transposed to a mere idiom and potential advertising slogan or meme

Book lovers in Michigan enjoy a new Barnes & Noble that recently opened as the company continues expanding after years of downsizing
The bookseller had been reducing stores for about 15 years, but recently began opening new locations because of "strong sales" in existing stores. The company plans to open 60 locations across the country, USA TODAY reported
"Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful," the bookseller said in a February news release. "In 2024
Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019."
The company says it has stores in every state, and about 600 outlets overall
Here's what we know about Barnes & Noble's plans in Michigan:
Barnes & Noble opened a location in Grand Rapids at Knapp's Crossing, 2236 E. Beltline Ave. NE, in March. Additionally, the bookseller opened a Lake Orion store in 2024
According to Scrapehero
there are 21 Barnes & Noble locations in Michigan
The new bookstore showcases the design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings
games and gifts customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller
The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café
“We are delighted to be opening this brand-new Barnes & Noble
our second in Grand Rapids,” said James Daunt
“When we first announced this new bookstore we received an outpouring of enthusiasm from our local customers
and our booksellers cannot wait to welcome them into their new Grand Rapids Barnes & Noble.”
Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019
The bookseller expects to open over 60 new bookstores in 2025
The Grand Rapids location was one of four Barnes & Noble bookstores that opened in March, alongside stores in Florida
The bookseller has opened about a dozen stores across the country since the beginning of 2025
The locations of the newly opened bookstores are:
immune to the veneer of staid professionalism that tends to afflict bands in their fourth decade of existence
either the noise-rock group’s 19th or 20th album (depending on whether you count the little-heard 1996 curio Dirt Pirate Creed)
It takes its unusual title from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
Drummer Greg Saunier describes the album as “our low-budget
dehumanized creature made out of people.” The record cover
a scraggly collage of the bandmates’ faces
This is one of the band’s most abrasive albums to date
fractured grooves like “Sparrow Sparrow” and “Ha
Haaa” that simulate the experience of realizing your open tabs are playing multiple songs simultaneously
An anarchic free-jazz squawk weaves its way through “Who Do You Root For?,” while “Disobedience” is as queasy and discordant as the mutiny Satomi Matsuzaki seems to be singing about: “99 to 1/Captain has a gun,” she cheerily exclaims
Songs don’t end so much as collapse into cacophonous outros
While Deerhoof’s last album, 2023’s Miracle-Level
captured the serrated immediacy of their live performances
Noble and Godlike in Ruin is cluttered and dense
it’s exciting: “Kingtoe” has a perverse refrain (“You make machines/And I am one!”) and a woozy melody held together by a toy-like piano riff
with Matsuzaki’s interlocking vocals coming together in a round at the end
the band’s raw power is undermined by jumbled
as on the aforementioned “Disobedience.” There’s a majestic ballad lurking somewhere in “A Body of Mirrors,” but the maximalist arrangement gives it little room to breathe
a rare tech platform that “isn’t blatantly supporting fascism.”)

TikToker Jalen Noble responded to the rumors that his Texas home, which he shares with his partner, content creator Monet McMichael
Noble and McMichael came under fire earlier during the week of April 28 after McMichael posted a video of her and Noble working out at their home gym (they converted a barn on the property)
which users believed was the home’s slave quarters in the 1800s
Noble made it clear that this is not the case
“With this house being built in 1850
I do want to acknowledge the fact that I feel an overwhelming sense of empowerment every time I see [my property],” Noble said in his recent TikTok
“There are no ties to slavery on this property
I am able to own a house that 175 years ago
Noble posted a TikTok about the property back in January 2025
noting that one of the main reasons he bought it was because it had a guest house
users were quick to claim that the structure used to be the home’s slave quarters
Noble said in his April 2025 video that he reached out to a genealogist and an architectural historian to learn more about the history of his property
and learned that the property’s guest house was actually an early settler’s cabin
which was then converted into a hunting lodge
the other structures on the property are newer: the barn (which is now Noble’s gym) was built in 1999
next it’ll make a perfect mother-in-law suite
and then hopefully we can convert it to a larger piece of the main house ❤️
After McMichael posted about the home’s barn-turned-gym on April 25
TikTok users flooded the comment section of her video
accusing the couple of being “tone deaf” to
“It’s sad to see yall pretend this shouldn’t be a historic piece of land
I understand it’s now owned by a black person but that same black person cant even acknowledge what it is (“guest house”),” and another wrote
“Oh my god yall live on a plantation
breaking in the at home gym with glutes AND it has a built in personal trainer perioddd 💅🏽💕 let’s workout together !! also updated my playlists YAY #fitness #legday
While McMichael didn’t respond to the comments (and why should she?), she did repost Noble’s video explaining the history of the property. And, under her most recent video, fans are offering their support after the massive amount of criticism she and Noble faced over the internet rumors. “I don’t seeeee anyone here apologizing as quick as they came to leave hate comments,” wrote one fan. Another user wrote, “Now everyone say sorry ms.monettttt.”
Well, I guess this clears that whole mess up.

The high school softball season is starting to heat up
Defending Class A state champ Cheverus off to a 2-0 start hosting 2-1 Noble Wednesday afternoon
Noble's Olivia Allard crushes a double to deep left
But Stags starter Ashley Connor does a great job pitching out of it to keep the Knights off the board
Hailey Lamontagne rips a two run single to left
Anna Goodman coming through with an RBI single to center
Anna and Sadie Collins also with homeruns as the Stags win it 17-0
And if Mississippi State plays like it did Saturday
it should feel good about its chances to sweep the Wildcats
Dawgs. Win. Again.#HailState🐶 pic.twitter.com/ZlWRZxMRNi
The first leg of Saturday’s double header saw the Bulldogs plate eight runs in the sixth inning when leading 6-4
eliminating any chance for Kentucky to rally
Pico Kohn improved to 5-2 with 5.2 innings of work and four strikeouts
The second game Saturday was a much closer contest that saw Mississippi State lose another multi-run lead
Kentucky scored three runs and both teams held each other scoreless until the game went into extra innings
The Bulldogs prevailed in the 11th inning on a Joe Powell single through the left side of the Wildcats’ infield
allowing Bryce Chance to score from second after hitting a leadoff double
Powell's clutch hit continued what was a fantastic day for him
He went 3-for-3 in the day's first game with two doubles
One of the few negative things to happen to Mississippi State on Saturday is how many pitchers were used in the second game
The Bulldogs used five pitchers in the 11-inning game
Three of the five pitchers were in the game for three innings or more
The other two didn’t even pitch a full inning
The Bulldogs still have work to do if they want to make the NCAA Tournament
but Saturday’s double-header sweep has certainly made it a lot more realistic
Mississippi State and Kentucky will wrap up their series at noon Sunday on SEC Network

A plan to bring a Barnes and Noble bookstore to Glenwood Meadows will move forward — if at all — without taxpayer support from the city
Glenwood Springs City Council voted 6-0 Thursday night to deny a sales tax rebate request totaling $750,000 over seven years
The incentive was pitched by Glenwood Meadows developer Steve Shoflick of Miller Weingarten Realty
who has led the shopping center’s development for more than two decades
reached a unanimous decision after over an hour of discussion and public comment
The proposal would have returned a portion of future sales tax generated by the bookstore to the property owner
No current tax revenue would have been affected
Shoflick said Barnes and Noble had agreed to lease the 24,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond
He said the company was drawn to Glenwood as a regional hub but that the financials were difficult to close without help
“We will do everything in our power to make it happen regardless,” Shoflick said
“But can I tell you we can bridge that gap
The lease under consideration included a 10-year base term with three five-year renewal options
Shoflick described the new Barnes and Noble concept as a community hub — not just a place to buy books
He said it would include a Paper Source gift shop
and flexible seating to encourage gathering
“This is not your old bookstore anymore,” Shoflick said
“They have recast themselves as entertainment and gathering.”
He argued that the Meadows development is still missing a central hangout spot
“What we don’t have is a gathering place,” he said
Shoflick said bringing Barnes and Noble to Glenwood would elevate the center’s tenant mix and draw more consistent traffic from locals and regional shoppers
He cited Glenwood’s changing retail landscape and noted that
many big-box tenants — such as Sports Authority and Bed Bath & Beyond — have closed due to bankruptcy
He also said most municipalities in Colorado offer some form of incentive for national retailers and pointed to examples in Avon
“Incentives are part of the landscape in which we operate,” Shoflick said
“It’s just the competitive landscape we live in.”
expressed concern over offering public money to a national chain
especially in the absence of a formal policy or consistent standards
“That’s not fair to the community,” Councilor Jonathan Godes said
something that didn’t compete — that would be a different conversation.”
“We don’t pick tenants,” added Councilor Sumner Schachter
“Whether we subsidize or not may become our role
but picking tenants is not our job.”
said she didn’t dislike incentives in general — but wanted to see them used in a more transparent and equitable way
“I didn’t know that I could apply for anything when I opened my business,” Zalinski said
“We should use incentives sensitively and with thought.”
She and others pointed out that most small business owners don’t know city support programs even exist
Councilor Mitchell Weimer said that without a clear process
council risks making subjective decisions that feel unfair — both to developers and local shop owners
“I think ultimately we have to say no until we have more structure,” Weimer said
“So that we’re not flipping a coin every time.”
several community members opposed the rebate request
co-owner of Alpenglow Books in downtown Glenwood
said the proposal would directly harm her small
“I closed my store an hour early today so I could be here and present my case,” Hake said
“I think it is obvious that this proposal would directly and negatively impact our business.”
She said she and her husband opened their shop in 2024 without any financial help from the city
“Spencer and I spent months constructing
sanding and staining bookshelves in our driveway,” she said
“We did that instead of asking the city to subsidize us.”
Hake said giving money to a corporation backed by a hedge fund
while local retailers are left to fend for themselves
“If they cannot make enough money here and need taxpayer money to justify moving in
then they should not be here,” Hake said
“You would send a clear message to local small businesses and entrepreneurs
you are not a priority and you are not valued.”
The Glenwood Meadows development is one of the city’s largest tax generators
It operates under a public improvement fee
which helped fund infrastructure like roads and traffic signals when the project was first built
Glenwood Springs Community and Economic Development Director Hannah Klausman said the city has historically supported a limited number of incentives
when the city approved a rebate to bring in Marshall’s and expand Natural Grocers
Thursday’s vote followed another incentive denial earlier this month
council rejected a $2 million sales tax rebate tied to a proposal to redevelop the former Safeway site on Grand Avenue with Harbor Freight and Arc Thrift Store
Despite the council’s unanimous vote
the door remains open for the project to proceed without city assistance
“This only relates to the tax initiative that was being requested,” Klausman said
“Barnes and Noble as a tenant — that decision is between the business and the property owner.”
Whether the bookstore ultimately opens in Glenwood Meadows will depend on what happens next in private negotiations
“We don’t decide that,” Klausman said
“It’s a matter between the developer and the business at this point.”

Chicago’s deep-dish fans, prepare for a crispy-cornered shake-up: Milly’s Pizza in the Pan, one of the city’s most buzzed-about pan pizza spots
is saying goodbye to Uptown and heading west to Noble Square this summer
Owner Robert Maleski, who launched Milly’s out of a Logan Square ghost kitchen in 2020 slinging just 10 pies a day
confirmed that the pizzeria will relocate to 925 N
in a space formerly occupied by Pizza Metro
Argyle St.) staying in service until then
While Milly’s remains mostly a takeout-and-delivery operation
with just 12 seats upfront. What the new project will lack in dining room square footage
it will make up for in pizza-making power: the spot comes with a Middleby Marshall conveyor oven (aka the “Cadillac of pizza ovens”)
a massive upgrade from the convection oven Maleski used in Uptown
Milly’s will double production from 60 to 120 pies daily
Known for its caramelized crust edges and chef-driven layering of high-quality ingredients, Milly’s has drawn comparisons to cult favorites like Pequod’s and Burt’s Place
while repping deep dish as something more than a tourist trap
“We feel that this space will take our pizza to another level,” Maleski shared on Instagram
Despite the excitement, Maleski says he’s sad to leave Uptown, where neighbors embraced his small business from day one. “It’s been a great neighborhood for us,” he told Eater
Fans needn’t worry about a total relocation: Milly’s Berwyn outpost
will remain open and unaffected by the city move
So if you’re craving that signature crispy-cornered slice
get to Uptown while you can—or get ready to line up in Noble Square this summer

Comedian said he was ‘fighting off’ infection from hospital bed in Australia

Ross Noble has been forced to reschedule his forthcoming shows due to a kidney infection
The British standup comedian and regular Have I Got News For You panellist shared a selfie from a hospital bed in Australia on Monday (28 April)
explaining that he had been advised by doctors to reschedule his forthcoming live shows
He is currently touring Australia until September as part of his Cranium of Curiosities show
He will return for the UK leg of the tour in October
“I couldn’t be more gutted to have to make this post,” Noble told fans online
“First up I am sorry for messing any of you around and second I am doing fine and recovering as best I can
In all my years of touring I can count on one hand the number of shows I have had to postpone due to illness
“The show must go on and I am usually able to power through
Sadly this time I have been told by the doctor not to
it is with deep regret I am having to reschedule my next few shows.”
Noble explained that what he thought was a regular sickness was
more serious and that he was now in hospital “fighting off a b****** of a kidney infection”
He added: “I will return recovered and ready to go asap
If you have tickets for the affected shows they will still be valid for the new date or refund
Which will be at the first availability with venues they will contact you to sort it out
Thank you for your understanding and I will see you in no time fighting fit and back at it.”
Fans offered their messages of support online
with one person writing: “That kidney doesn’t know who it’s up against.” Another added: “Oh no
Hope you're back out there soon,” said another fan
According to the NHS, a kidney infection is a painful type of urinary tract infection that can affect one or both kidneys. In some cases, it can be serious if it's not treated.
Symptoms of a kidney infection include a high temperature, feeling sick or being sick, pain in your lower back or side, diarrhoea, aching muscles and flu-like symptoms, pain, burning or stinging when you urinate and needing to urinate more often than usual.
