Madigan started her career as a player at River Dell and assistant at Tenafly before taking the reins at Northern Highlands in 2003 Madigan steps away with a legacy few can match and a career record of 384-55-12 her team went unbeaten for three straight years while setting state records for consecutive wins (65) and games without a loss (88) Only three Bergen County girls soccer coaches have won more games: Paul Heenehan (747) Madigan's head coaching career was split over two tenures She stepped down months after winning a state title in 2018 It's the end of a very meaningful era and I think I've grown a lot since then and so has the program I truly feel like I'm leaving now with a full heart and deep sense of gratitude." The decision to step away wasn't made overnight When Madigan returned in 2021 and her current seniors came in as freshmen the goal was to at least see out that group from start to finish Madigan accomplished that back in November all while juggling the newfound challenge of raising two young children "We had a great run this past year," Madigan said "It's been fun and rewarding and exciting to be back again But I feel like it was a circumstance where my life personally had changed and I didn't know if it would be another 15 years of doing this." Madigan said her message to her players is she isn't leaving them completely she is staying nearby as a physical education teacher at Northern Highlands "My door is always open if they need anything or want to come celebrate their successes." Stateliners had just enough time for Moreira Magic “Unbelievable effort,” Phillipsburg coach Frank Duffy said We knew they’d come here and give our best effort It didn’t look really good there when we gave up the two-point conversion The Stateliners (10-1) will play the winner of Saturday's North 1 Group 4 sectional final between Morris Knolls and Ramapo in the Group 4 semifinals next week
